Hello, Cricket!
Question about Mephistea (Mephistopheles and Aranea) and Hazil (Halim and Zil).
Which of these 5 languages of love fits them? Words of affirmation? Quality time? Physical touch? Receiving gifts? Or Acts of service?
And why?
You may choose more than one!
🫂
Morning, my darling Giulietta!! <3
gods, you have no idea how happy I am to see you in my inbox!!
and you bring me such delightful question (as you always do! :D)
SO. ONTO YOUR ASK!
Let's start with each of them!
Zil's language of love (as giver) would be Act of Service and Quality Time. With their jobs as Scribe and Vizir, both Halim and Zil had incredibly busy lives, and the moments to spend together were relegated to the evenings and nights after work. Zil knew about Halim's schedule everyday, so, in her own small capacity, she tried her best to lighten is work load, so that they could have more time to spend together, and Halim was immensely appreciative of that.
In this, both her and Halim were the same, and shared the same love languages, albeit Halim also had, as a giver, Words of Affirmation.
As Aranea, instead, her language of love (always as a giver) changed to suits Mephistopheles' personality and needs, and became Giving Gift and Physical Touch. She shows her love and devotion to the Lord of Cania by constantly reaping souls for him, especially the ones of the people that has dared disparage his name. Also, she knows that Mephisto needs and wants to be phisically touched by her, and this is also one of the reasons why she always make sure to find time for them to snuggle and nakedly cuddle together (which is also one of the reason why he always feels like a anguished soul whenever she goes to the Mortal Plane, either because she has souls to reap or because they had a fight). On the received end, instead, Zil/Aranea loves Physical Touch, Quality time and Words of Affirmation. Physical touch is something she found out she was more receptive to it AFTER losing Halim, and it's one of the reasons why she constantly searches for Mephistophele's embrace (even though at the beginning she MOST DEFINITELY would not admit it for the world. Like, it was obvious on her face and her posture when she wanted to be taken in his arms, Mephistopheles is able to tell by just looking at her, but still, she would not admit it lol.) Words of affirmation was not something she realized she loved to hear until after her whole flirtation with Mephisto begin (and homegirl would never admit it out loud, but he is the reason she actually got a praise kink fml), which is why, when she later found out all the letters and poems that Halim had written her throughout the years of their marriage, they hit like a sack of bricks!
On Mephisto´s end, instead, he likes to match Aranea's needs, just as she matches his, so he is very keen to always find a way to have her physically close to him (Ah, if those thermae in Mephistar could talk!😳😳😳 ). Even when they are distant, when Aranea is busy on other Planes, he is always there, inside her mind, whispering all sorts of sweet nothings and words of love for her.
But don't let me start about the way he leans in in Aranea's praise kink while on the Mortal Plane, especially when she needs to focus on something important or when she is surrounded by other people: he serves her his whole repertoire, and by the Gods, those are the few times she actually wishes she could just tune him out because MEPHISTO, GODDAMNIT, I AM TRYING TO FOCUS HERE, I CANNOT BLUSH IN FRONT OF THESE PEOPLE FML.
So, there you have it, my dear!!<3
thank you so much for passing by <3 it was a delight to see you here!!
HERE, HAVE SOME COFFEE! <3

Greetings 👋
I'm currently reading David Blixt's essay on Romeo and Juliet "The origin of the feud". Have you read it? What are your thoughts about it? If you didn't, would you read it? So far I agree and disagree with some points he made but it is too early to say much since I started it a few hours ago.
…My man really just started writing fanfiction whole cloth. Woof.
So I did read (1) essay by him of the same title online, (he has a whole essay collection that somehow managed to be published) and boy, was it a doozy. Long story short, Blixt found it strange that Lady Montague’s off-stage death came so suddenly, basically tacked on at the end, and thought it might have a symbolic meaning—that is, signaling the end of the feud. From there he headcanoned that Lady Montague was the cause of the feud re: love triangle. Lords Capulet and Montague were once best friends turned rivals over the love of a woman, who would become Lady M.
First of all, the Chorus was clear that the feud was an ancient grudge; if a recent-ish love triangle were the cause, then it would certainly be the new mutiny. Second of all, for would-be ex-BFFs and rivals, Lord Capulet is eager to save face to young Count Paris and assure him that it would not be hard (he thinks) for him to keep the peace with Lord Montague, as they are both old. It’s possible, but not very probable.
Most likely Shakespeare axed Lady M off for symmetry—Romeo and Lady Montague from the Montague side, Juliet and Tybalt from the Capulets, and Mercutio and Paris from Escalus. Each side lost at least two people. (Then again, he did have Benvolio killed off-stage in the Bad Quarto, so it may not have been symmetry after all).
In any case, I also looked up some reviews of the whole essay collection and I’m not impressed, either. Apparently he is one of those R&J-is-a-comedy-turned-tragedy clowns, which makes sense given this fanfic-esque meta. He did write a fun-sounding novel called Her Majesty’s Will, though, so who knows? Maybe that will be my next read for some clown-eating.

Every moment of loving you speaks of folding your scars into poems piercing your pain by sword lilies singing you into dream tides swaying my leaves in the wind of your spirit
About the Sword Lily (Gladiolus) ^-^ : Because of their association with gladiators, the gladiolus flower meaning is strength and integrity. They also symbolize infatuation. By giving a gladiolus to someone, the giver sends the message “you pierce my heart” to the receiver, because of the flower's pointed shape. Another gladiolus meaning is remembrance
Also a big heartfelt Thanks to my lunar bestie @giuliettaluce who inspired one or more lines of today's poem

Inspired by a poll in the Hamlet tag about the hair color of Horatio, I thought I'd ask for people's favorite hair color combinations for the two most famous lovers in fiction.
These obviously aren't the only possible combinations, but they're as many as I was allowed to list, all taken from the various film versions, paintings, illustrations, or stage productions of the play.

🎶✨When you get this, you have to put 5 songs you actually listen to, publish, then send this ask/tag 10 of your favorite followers 🎶✨
Thank you @rumor-imbris for tagging me for this little game. So here is my list. Ist was hard to chose because there are so many great songs out there so I tried to pick my favourite across the vast variety that I'm listening to
Laura Welsh - Break the Fall
d'Artagnan - Farewell
Citizen Soldier - still breathing
DDT - Staya (Стая)
Jonathan Young - still here (I know it's a cover, but it's better than the original, hence at 5 even though I ADORE this song so much)
So I don't know if I can manage to tag 10 people because the social cripple me doesn't have any contacts. So if I'm tagging you and you don't know me, it's probably because we exchanged a message once ;)
Anyone who reads this and feels like joining, feel free!

Mathias, bonsoir sweet nephew of mine!!!
Have a cup of hot chocolate with me, darling (since we are both hot chocolate enthusiasts)
A ❓ for you.
What do you usually do in your free time away from Assassin's duties?
"Merci, Mademoiselle, for the hot chocolate and for your question," *sits back and thinks about the question for a moment.* "As an Assassin, having time to spare for my own amusement or recreation of some sort is an indulgence that I rarely allow myself to partake to," "Tsk, Mathias, I have told you time and time again that I can take some of your responsibilities in the Brotherhood. France won't collapse just because you decide to take a day for yourself," "True, but I am afraid of what would happen if you were to unleash yourself, Antoine. Poor Arno knows your preaching by heart now, and I can only imagine his face if you were to present yourself for a mission, rather than I,"
"Mph, the novice could learn a thing or two about discretion, if he were to actually listen to me, sometimes,"
"Yes, dearest Antoine, we should all listen to you. But now, come, dear sister, for Mathias has not yet finished to answer Mademoiselle Giulietta's enquire,"
"Mph,"
*Chuckling, Mathias observes Antoine and Colette walking away, arm in arm* "Forgive my sister, Mademoiselle, she can be rather... direct, in the way she addresses others. But allow me to finally answer your question: whenever I have some time for myself -and as you have seen, it's rather complicated - I very much like to sit alone and sketch all the beauty that I see around me. There is so much to discover, if one stops for just one moment and observes, and I like to etch all that I can on paper. Alternatively, I would say that music is what accompanies me the most during my times alone,"
-----------------------
thank you, my darling Giulietta!!! <3 This was so adorable to answer!! <3

The amount of theaters I've heard of that have done West Side Story with an all white cast is just... not it. Just do Romeo and Juliet if you can't cast Latino people in a story about Latino people

Rules: List five comfort characters & tag five people
Tagged by @mygreatadventurehasbegun
I'm so excited! I've never been tagged for this type of thing before. I had to think a bit about what constitutes a comfort character, and I decided on these criteria:
Visual media only--if I add print, I'll get even more stuck in choice paralysis than I already am. But adaptations are allowed.
Something I've liked in multiple phases of my life--i.e., things I have a history with and still would go back to today.
Things I'd turn to for comfort after a bad day.
Things where the desire to do so is largely driven by getting to spend time with the characters.
So without further ado, here are my selections!
Emma Woodhouse (either the 1972 BBC version or the 1996 movie version)
2. Emma Peel
3. Any Fred Astaire character from a Fred-and-Ginger movie except Lucky Garnett of Swing Time. (Will also accept Jerry Halliday of Damsel in Distress or Robert Davis of You Were Never Lovelier.)
Here's Guy Holden of The Gay Divorcee as a representative.
4. Emperor Akbar and Empress Jodhaa
5. The family in My Neighbor Totoro
Honorable Mention:
Sir Percy Blakeney
Chihiro
Lili Schmidt
Tagging @cto10121, @anghraine, @northernmariette, @giuliettaluce, @sweet-christabel, @instantlyexhaustedowl, and @jchance4d4.

Other people have posted eloquently about the problem with reimaginings of Romeo and Juliet that change the Montagues and Capulets from "two households both alike in dignity" into a privileged group and an oppressed one. Especially versions that make one household an ethnic minority, while the other is white, and imply that racial tensions are the cause of the feud.
Despite my fondness for West Side Story, I'll admit that it's a part of that problematic trend. But I do think it's more redeemable than actual productions of Shakespeare's play that cast white Montagues and minority Capulets, because (a) it's distinctly different from the play and never tries to claim that the two gangs are "both alike in dignity," and (b) it was written and takes place in 1957, when the concept of "ethnic whites" was more common – as children of poor European immigrants, the Jets also face bigotry, if not the same racism as the Puerto Rican Sharks. At least it's worlds away from that one fortunately-cancelled production of Shakespeare's play with Nazi Montagues and Jewish Capulets!
But here's another issue. Why, in productions or retellings that center the feud around racial or cultural tensions, are the Montagues (or Montague equivalents) almost always portrayed as the white group, while the Capulets (or Capulet equivalents) are the minority group?
West Side Story does this with the white Jets and Puerto Rican Sharks. The 2013 Broadway production with Orlando Bloom as Romeo did this, with white Montagues and black Capulets – a choice that, from what I've read, several other recent productions have made too. The cancelled Nazi Germany-themed production would have done this in the most tasteless way of all.
Is it because the directors or writers are usually both white and male, so they focus on Romeo as the more "relatable" of two lovers and make him white like themselves?
Is it because there's more of a stigma against white women paired with men of color than vice-versa, and beautiful women of color are fetishized by white men, while men of color are stereotyped as being unattractive to white women?
Is it because the Capulets get more emphasis than the Montagues, so they think they're providing better representation by making the more prominent characters the minority group?
Is it because they see Juliet as the more morally pure of the two lovers and Romeo as the tragically flawed one, so they think it's better representation for Juliet to be the minority?
Is it because they stereotype people of color as being hot-blooded, as the Capulets tend to be more than the Montagues?
Is it because they think Tybalt's anger makes more sense if he's a minority who's endured racist abuse from white Montagues?
Is it because of Tybalt's death? Do they view the tragedy's turning point as the Montagues (i.e. Romeo) victimizing the Capulets (i.e. Tybalt), whether that's really what the killing is or not?
Is it because people stereotype minority parents as being abusively controlling of their daughters?
Is it because they think a minority family would be all the more concerned with gaining security and respectability through a high-status marriage for Juliet?
Is it all of the above?
I'd like to know!

FICTIONAL CHARACTER ASK: RAPUNZEL
TAGGED BY: @giuliettaluce
@princesssarisa @amalthea9 @sunlit-music @mademoiselle-princesse @superkingofpriderock @lioness–hart @parxsisburnixg @astrangechoiceoffavourites @lieutenant-hel-odinsdottir
Favorite thing about them: Even tough since childhood she lived gaslighted as a prisoner of a person who confused abuse with love, Rapunzel still growed up to be an inteligent, strong willed, resourcefull and resilient woman, who despite her insecurities, never stoped longing and fighting for her right to be free and to be happy with her true love.
Least favorite thing about them:
The 1857 edition rewrite that putted in her mouth the line:
“Tell me, Dame Gothel, how it happens that you are so much heavier for me to draw up than the young king’s son - he is with me in a moment”.
The fact that this rewrite is more well known than the 1812 edition version, where the Witch discorvers the Prince’s visits by noticing Rapunzel’s bodily changes happening due to pregnancy, is probably what leads to the misconception that “Fairy Tale Rapunzel is a stupid passive character”.
Three things i have in common with them:
I can be insecure of the outside world, like she was at the beggining of the story.
I am a very sensitive and prone to tears person.
I enjoy the singing of the birds.
Three things i don’t have in common with them:
I usually use my hair short.
I don’t know how to weave.
I don’t have her beautifull singing voice.
Favorite line:
When she presents the plan to run away with the Prince:
“I will willingly go away with you, but I do not know how to get down. Bring with you a skein of silk every time that you come, and I will weave a ladder with it, and when that is ready I will descend, and you will take me on your horse.”
This confrontational dialogue exchange she has with the Witch in Into the Woods, after she starts developing PTSD:
“What’s the matter”?
“Oh, nothing! You just locked me in a tower without company for fourteen years, then you blinded my Prince and banished me to a desert where I had little to eat, and again no company, and then bore twins! Because of the way you treated me, I’ll never, never be happy”!
brOTP: In her main tale, the birds. Outside of her main tale: The Queen from Rumpelstilskin, The Princess from The Frog Prince, Queen Florina, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty of the Beast, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Jack of the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, Hop o my Thumb and Puss in Boots.
OTP: The Prince.
nOTP: The Witch. Also, in Shrek 3 her pairing with Prince Charming is a match made in Hell.
Random Headcanon: The anime series Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics gaved her the talent to play the harp, and i tought this was a nice touch to her character. Also, in my imagination, Rapunzel can imitate the singing of every bird that she listens, and she knows the healing power of the herbs, so she becomes a renowned healer queen.
Unpopular Opinion: I feel that the misconception that “Fairy Tale Rapunzel is a stupid, passive and weak character who just waits for good things to happen to her and her romance with the Prince is rushed and undeveloped, and telling her story nowadays is retrogressive” comes from most retellings made for pre schooler and elementary schooler audiences (wich usually are the versions that most people remember) that not only used the infamous line from the 1857 edition i just complained about and cut away her babies altogether, but even cut the element of Rapunzel coming with the escaping plan! When one comes to read the older italian variants (Petrosinella, Prunella, The Canary Prince) and the original Brothers Grimm tale, we learn that the Prince visits her several evenings, wich means they had a good time to develop the romance. Also in the original Brothers Grimm tale, Rapunzel is the one who comes with the plan to weave a silk ladder to escape with the Prince, meaning she is very strong willed, proactive and inteligent, and at the end, after surviving giving birth and raising two babies in a wasteland, wich also shows great strenght, when the Prince is reunited with her, she is the one who saves him by healing his blindness with her tears!
We also must considerate that this is a medieval renaissance tale collected to paper in the 19th century that portrays positively a relationship out of love between a prince and a peasant girl, while during those times arranged marriages restricted between members of one’s own class were the norm. In fact, Rapunzel’s relationship with the Prince is a rebellious, forbidden, vibrant and egalitarian love, not very diferent from Romeo and Juliet, another famous young couple separated by a tall window.
And, finally, there is the fact that the main heroine has premarital sex and a pregnancy and, instead of receiving a tragic sad ending like it would be expected from 19th century authors like the Grimms, she receives a happy ending! This is specially relevant when we remember that even to this day in our society women who have children out of wedlock are stigmatized.
The fairy tale is not perfect, after all the main villain is still an old single woman (Dame Gothel, the Witch). But there are some elements of it that are surprinsigly progressive, both for the medieval renaissance and 19th century standards and for the modern day standards.
Song i associate with them:
The main theme from Barbie as Rapunzel
youtube
The medieval song Scarborough Fair
youtube
Green Finch and Linnet Bird by Stephen Sondheim
youtube
Favorite picture of them:
Warwick Goble’s illustration for the italian variant Petrosinella:
This illustration by Emma Florence Harrison
This illustration by Arthur Rackham
This illustration by Daniela Drescher
This illustration by Paul Hey
This illustration by Anastassija Archipowa
This illustrations by Alix Berenzy
This illustrations by Paul O Zelinski
This painting by Deann Cumner
This illustration by Trina Schart Hyman
Barbie as Rapunzel
Shelley Duvall (with Jeff Bridges as her Prince) in Fairy Tale Theater
Pamela Winslow Kashani in Into the Woods
Mackenzie Mauzy in Disney’s Into the Woods 2014 (one of the few good things of that movie adaptation)
Luisa Wietzorek in the the German TV Movie Series Grimm’s Finest Fairy Tales
