Wimbledon XD F: Jan Zielinski/Su-Wei Hsieh [7] def. Santiago Gonzalez/Giuliana Olmos 6-4, 6-2 Match Stats
📸 Wimbledon official app
It was a true masterclass from J. Zielinski/Hsieh right from the beginning of the first set. Thanks to their anticipation, they maintained their balance well between the baseline and the net, scoring thrice more winners than Team Mexico (12 to 4), while committing twice less unforced errors than the latter (4 to 8). This way, they also nailed some of the net exchanges, with some brilliant volleys coming in handy when they saw the open court. From here, they amassed 15 break points, converting 20% of them while leaving Team Mexico less to no chance to create or convert their chances.
Besides, their dominance was also reflected through their service games. Scoring three times more aces than Team Mexico (6 to 2), the former pair had an almost perfect first serve winning percentage at 93% despite only landing 64% of them, which explained their follow-up domination through their point construction. Somehow, Team Mexico double-faulted thrice, which faded their second serve winning percentage to 39%, 30% lesser than J. Zielinski/Hsieh throughout the match.
This marked J. Zielinski/Hsieh's second Grand Slam title as a pair after the Australian Open earlier this year, as well as J. Zielinski's first overall Wimbledon title. Somehow, this also was Hsieh's fifth Wimbledon title, having won the Women's Doubles sector last year as well as 2019 and 2021. A true queen, and who knows, there could be a milestone in the making while Hsieh could be a future Hall of Famer.

Continuing their dominance from the first set, Hsieh/J. Zielinski then started with Hsieh's backhand winner right at the first point on their return before having a stellar defense only for J. Zielinski's rare lob error to finish it. They still had a break point, which was saved with an unreturned serve, where Team Mexico sealed the set with a working volley to hold 1-0. Several games later, Hsieh's backhand pass to *1-1 15-30 paved the way to break after J. Zielinski's backhand let cord moment creating their break point, which was converted with a working smash (2-1).
Subsequently, this became a point construction galore as a net exchange between both pairs ended with G. Olmos' instinctive volley to the open court to set up a lead to 2-1* 15-30 (which could be the point of the tournament already), and her deep return also fumbled the seventh seeds' game point at some point, where they still successfully held to 3-1. However, G. Olmos' failed volleys created Hsieh/J. Zielinski's 2 break points, as well as fumbling one of their game points even if they held to 3-2.
It only took three more games before Hsieh/J. Zielinski's returns struck again, where J. Zielinski's fourth shot forehand winner created their break point before its immediate conversion thanks to another net exchange that ended with his successful volley. As a result, the seventh seeds earned an opportunity to serve for the match, which they did to take the second set 6-2, as well as securing their second Grand Slam title of the year.

Read the full article
