Although it's late by two days, Happy 24th Anniversary to the Escaflowne the Movie: A Girl in Gaea! This action-adventure anime film with breathtaking animation hit Japanese movie theatres on June 24th, 2000 and later appeared in cinemas in Europe in 2001 and in North America in 2002.
Here is a selection of official promotional art for the movie found on the online art gallery Minitokyo.
In my opinion, the story and characters are not nearly as engaging in the movie version but the animation is amazing. I also like the character designs and the earthy sword and sorcery aesthetics with an apparently Central Asian and Japanese cultural flavour. What's your opinion of the Escaflowne movie?

It's been a busy couple of weeks, so this is a bit late, but Starburst Magazine Issue 487 is here!
This issue, we take a look at TERRIFIER 3, as well as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, and much more! In my Book Wormhole column, I review Jack Ketchum's slasher horror novel Off Season, while over in the 1001 Movies You (Probably) Haven't Seen feature, I gush over the film version of one of my favourite anime: Escaflowne.

I recently found some Escaflowne doujinshi covers I screenshotted a long time ago from a vintage fansite I found on the Internet Archive. I don't have credits or titles for the doujinshi but I thought the community might enjoy seeing them. If anyone knows the artist credits, please add them in the comments.
It is so interesting how different artists depict Dilandau, either playing up the feminine or masculine characteristics of my favourite character. My favourite piece is the stark black, red, and white artwork of Dilandau, showing their ferocious side in its full glory.
I have my own unique way of drawing Dilandau too, with a lot of influence from 19th century art of Joan of Arc and from Keiko Takemiya's iconic character Gilbert Cocteau from her controversial manga series Kaze to Ki no Uta.

i was having so much much trouble writing the hazel prequel i was envisioning and one of the reasons is that writing period pieces are hard for me and writing a long plotty narrative is also hard for me to keep interest in but i began writing it as a script/screenplay and everything clicked. I might even finish it for once

If you want an idea of how both stupid and awful X-Men Green as a whole as been, allow me to summarize the most recent issue.
Gaea herself summons Lin Li/Nature Girl/Blackheath for what she does, explains how Curse's curse is still affecting her mind and offers a chance to help.
The curse causes Gaea's offer to be rejected, Gaea points it out, and lets Lin Li loose to do more damage.
END!
An entire arc where nothing was accomplished. Where the hope of changing things was teased, but then taken away.
X-Men Green relies entirely on outrage engagement, and as a webcomic it can justify its existence as such. For a digital comic, there is no difference between normal heat and "Go Away" heat.
Quite a clever trap they have set up.
I feel the urge to write them about it, but frankly, I know I won't get an answer, so why bother?
X-Men Green is bad.
And the editors who wanted to drag this ecoterrorist BS out further should feel bad.
