this is so long forgive me but back with the girl dad aaron thoughts
-
What set me off was that one post of the “dad leaves his daughter an honest review of her restaurant” (anon can’t get the post but i hope you can find it 😭) and it’s like a play kitchen/restaurant right? LOOK I just KNOW Aaron would be the type to get really into his daughter’s games like !! he’ll do anything, like she wants him to play princess with him, tea parties, house? uh yeah. He gets really into his little girl’s games! He wants her to be happy and have the best childhood he can provide for her!
Speaking of princesses, INDULGES HER SO MUCH if she’s into stuff like disney princesses. She's like four, pre-k age right? imagine she has just like a specific princess she likes, so aaron buys her the designated dress, right, and she loves it and it’s one of those things she just always wants to wear. Aaron is so weak he will succumb to his daughter’s wishes so fast, like “okay, princess, twenty more minutes, but then you have to take it off for a bath.” weak. weak man. it’s been two hours.
That being said: if his little girl does take more interest in less traditional fem. stuff he doesn’t mind! if she prefers superman to sleeping beauty? okay. She loves it when her dad picks her up and lifts her in the air and she can “fly” all across the house. She loves it when her dad makes her her own personal cape, made out of her favourite colour fabric and adorned with her favourite little trinkets (be it glitter and sparkles or some cute beads or stickers). it’s pretty poorly made but she doesn’t really care because her dad made it for her! (also she’s four lol)
If we’re taking the stay-out-home-dad route, OH. OH. At first he’s actually so bad at it, but once she’s in kindergarten he’s an actual pro. oh my god you ever watched those videos where the parents pack their kids cute, nice lunches? HE DOES THAT HE MAKES THOSE LUNCHES FOR HIS GIRL (also his partner assuming they work!). also volunteers as much as his girl wants him to, if she wants him to go on a field trip? boom done, he’s on it so fast. if she wants a little break (it hurts him, poor guy just loves his kid) but he’ll respect it.
Loves braiding her hair and doing it. he actually spent so long learning how to braid hair, he probably got someone else to teach him.(presenting the kc is a pro at hair styling and dressing people to match their propaganda) he could also have just spent hours on youtube, he’d definitely do that. as she gets older if she wants he definitely does her hair. one time, when she was seven she got mad at him and told him; “no, i wanna do my own hair!”
Find him sulking in his daughter’s room, cleaning it up, one of her dolls in his hand. “no… nobody needs me, anymore, she’s all grown up, doesn’t need her dad anymore to do her hair.”
The next time she asks him to do his hair, he jokes around like “thought you were a big girl?” but a couple whines from her and he gives him, telling her he’s just kidding and of course he’ll do her hair.
We adore ask length in this household. If it isn’t long enough to make me up my brightness a little so I can see it properly then what’s the point?
Also this is all great, but hear me out… Aaron the dad to two girls. (Lilith and Alina, perhaps maybe even more)

im obsessed with this version of the story !!!
Day 8: Color
In my rewrite Lilith and Alina are already with Aaron during season 2 (aged 4 and 2). Also Aaron isn’t the greatest guy, even if he does care for the kids (they’ve definitely seen Papa “make someone sleep for a really really long time”). They were dressed pretty plainly with him, and hadn’t gotten to do a lot of fun things. When they all move to Phoenix Drop, they greatly enjoy getting to settle down and do fun things, like sidewalk art!

Anna - Aaron Hotchner x Pregnant! Fem Reader
“I am not naming my daughter Samantha, Aaron,” you say as you are folding up a load of washing you had thrown on your shared bed, Aaron sits on the armchair which was located in the corner of the bedroom, a pair of glasses laid on his face as he flicked through a book of baby names.
Licking his index finger and flicking to the next page, he started listing multiple girl names; Olivia, Rachel, Emma, Heather, Sarah, and Lisa. None of the names stuck out to you, at one point you groaned at one of the names.
"I told you I wanted to name her Astoria," you frown and look over at him, " I don't understand why you don't want to pick that name, it's adorable." Aaron sighs and puts the book down onto his lap, taking off the pair of glasses and placing them on the smaller table beside him as he runs his fingers through his hair, combing it out.
"I didn't expect it to be this difficult when it came to naming girls if I'm being honest, but you and I aren't getting anywhere with this and by the time the baby arrives we will still be arguing about her name." his voice was soft but slightly stern, you both knew the baby girl would be here any day, so why count you settle on one perfect name?
Your pregnancy had been amazing so far, you were always being taken care of by Aaron and your beautiful step-son Jack. Anything you needed they came immediately to you and got it for you. Jack had even suggested a few names himself, however, they were only names of girls in TV shows he watched.
Getting up out of his chair, Aaron walked over to you and pulled you into a hug, his arms wrapping themselves around your waist and his head pressed into the crease of your shoulder and neck. "I think it's time we let go and let Jack pick the name," he begins as you feel him leave butterfly kisses on your shoulder, "it'll make him feel part of the family if we let him get the final pick."
You knew he was right in what he was saying. Jack had been a rock in this world for the both of you, he always went out of his way to make sure you knew he loved you, even if you weren't his biological mother. Jack went from being a shy boy who couldn't even look at you the first time you met him to now, this confident and goofy little boy who went and bragged about his mum and dad's career, that they "fought bad people and kept the world safe".
Aaron lifts his head to look down at you, both of you silently agreeing to each other that now is the time you should ask Jack to pick the name. Aaron grabbed your hand and led you outside of your bedroom and down the stairs, your eyes eventually settling on Jack who was playing with his toy cars on the carpet in the living room.
"hey little man, we have something we need you to do okay?" you sit down beside him on the carpet as you pick up one of his toys to play with, running the wheels over the carpet. Jack looks at you then at Aaron, "Am I in trouble?" his soft and quiet voice makes it hard to hear what he said. "No no of course not bub, me and Daddy just need you to help us with something to do with your baby sister okay?" holding onto his hand as you watched his eyes glass up with tears.
Aaron sits down on the other side of him, "We want you to pick baby sister's name jack, will you do that for us?" his eyes light up and his head turns to Aaron before looking back at you to make sure you two were asking him to name his little sister. Aarons's smile covers his face, and joy fills his eyes as he watches his son get up and start dancing around the living room and squealing at the fact he gets to pick the name.
"Really Daddy? You want me to pick baby sister's name?" Jack asks his father as he stops dancing for a moment. "We want you to be a part of this decision buddy, we want you to name her, anything you want. You tell him as he turns to look at you.
"Anna, I want her to be called Anna like in Frozen."

A Daughter's Plan
Pairing: Terry Richmond x Black Female OC
Warning(s): Pure Fluff. Single Dad. Girl Dad energy. Terry's POV. Low angst.
Summary: Terry Richmond is a lonely single dad caring for his ten-year-old daughter, Pilar. When Pilar's mother re-marries and moves overseas to start a new job and family, the pre-teen thinks her dad needs to find someone for himself, too. Unbeknownst to Terry, his clever daughter has her sights set on the new neighbor, Allegra, who might be the perfect match.

"Isn't she pretty
Truly the angel's best
Boy, I'm so happy
We have been heaven blessed"
Stevie Wonder—"Isn't She Lovely?"
Terry Richmond heard the familiar rolling sound of his ten-year-old daughter's skateboard crossing over into the cul-de-sac of their gated townhome neighborhood. He could always pick out the unique sound of her board's ka-kump, ka-kump, ka-kump rhythm compared to her school buddies as they raced each other home.
Pilar always did a few kick flip tricks by Mr. Rhea's property before she jumped the curb and circled past a speed bump near Mrs. Purdue's home. While hand sanding a rocking chair, that he made for his pregnant sister, Terry paused.
He didn't hear Pilar's skateboard anymore.
Her crew of three friends whizzed past his open garage door toward their homes, but Terry didn't see his only child roll up to greet him with her angelic smile and chaotic energy. He lifted his protective goggles and wiped his hands on his work apron. Still no sign of her.
He strode out of the garage to take a peek and he noticed her lingering by their mailbox, still wearing her protective helmet and staring across the wide street. A furniture van blocked the driveway of the townhome facing across their property. A Black woman in her late twenties or early thirties directed two burly movers to carry a brand new sofa covered in plastic through her front door. The cute bob and conservative pastel colors of her sweater and pencil skirt had him guessing she was a teacher, or worked in corporate.
He glanced at Pilar who kept her dark brown eyes laser-focused on the recent addition to their quiet corner of the world. She chewed on her lip and rolled her board back and forth with her left foot. The new neighbor bought the house of Pilar's best friend since kindergarten. Little Leslie Gardner left Ville Broussard, Louisiana a year ago, and her old house stood empty for nine months until the For Sale sign finally came down three months ago. Terry knew that Mr. Gardner put a pretty penny into renovating the place before putting it on the market, and the expense of the renovation drove the price up.
The woman across the street probably spent over two-hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the two-bedroom property. Pilar pretended to dig in the mailbox, knowing he had already gotten the mail, and stared at the woman. From that distance, he couldn't tell if Pilar was still upset about Leslie moving or if she was upset that a stranger was moving into her bestie's old home.
"Pilar," he called out.
His daughter looked his way, and so did the woman across the street.
Whoa.
Terry never got a full view of the neighbor before. He always caught sideways glances or the back of her head. But the full frontal turned out to be something else. She looked like a gorgeous Black Barbie doll. He peeped her figure a few days ago when she first showed up in form-fitting pale green sweatpants and a matching hoodie. The fall weather brought out the layers, but she must've ignored the forecast because she walked around double-cheeked up in sportswear not designed for cooler temperatures.
Miss Neighbor turned her attention back to the interior of her home and Pilar ambled over, carrying her skateboard. She pulled off her skateboard helmet.
"Hey munchkin," he said, ruffling her thick two-toned curls pulled back with a light blue scrunchie. From the roots to just above the tips, Pilar's hair was dark brown. The ends had turned their annual summer-in-the-sun reddish brown that matched her skin tone. She looked exactly like his oldest sister Brianna and had her spirited personality, too.
Pilar's down-turned lips reflected a little 'tude.
"I don't see any kids," Pilar said.
She sounded bummed.
"Checking out the neighbor, huh?"
"She's pretty. Do you think she's pretty, Dad?"
"She is very attractive."
"Very?" Pilar said with a smug grin.
"Don't read anything into that."
"We should go say hi."
"She's busy with furniture. Let her get settled in."
He guided Pilar into their home through the garage, and she dumped her board and helmet by the dinette table. She washed her hands in the kitchen sink and he pulled a PB&J sandwich on a plate and a Capri Sun from the fridge, placing them on the table for her after-school snack.
The landline rang, and he answered it.
"Hi Terry, is Pilar in yet?"
His ex wife's voice sounded perky and happy.
"Yeah, hold on.'"
He carried the cordless from the living room into the kitchen and handed it to Pilar.
"It's your mom."
Pilar's face brightened, and she chatted away on the overseas call. Terry returned to the garage and began sanding the armrest of the rocking chair. He swept sawdust on the ground and closed the garage door after he finished.
Back in the kitchen, he rinsed his hands. An uneaten sandwich remained on the kitchen table without Pilar in sight. He looked in their living room and didn't find her there.
"Pilar?"
Terry climbed the stairs to the second floor and found his daughter weeping on her bed, her face buried in a yellow Big Bird pillow.
"What's wrong?"
He sat his big body on her twin bed, and she shook her head on the pillow. He laid a hand on her back.
"Babygirl, what is it?"
"Mom isn't coming back for Christmas. She eloped with that man in Italy and they plan on flying me out there for a boat cruise instead of coming to the lake like she promised. They'll have a big party in place of a wedding in Rome next July."
Pilar never addressed her new step-father by his name, Bryson. It was always "that man" despite her mother dating him for two years. Bryson was east coast respectability. A Black Archon Boulé with a prestigious prep school background and long family money. The complete opposite of Terry's country boy/military roots. He drove a 2015 F-250 truck and drank beer. Bryson drove a 2025 Jaguar and sipped Chardonnay.
Yolanda leveled up to the Black bougie life she always wanted. Terry knew in his heart that Yolanda would never be happy building a life with him. They were both twenty and naïve, getting married the moment they found out Pilar was conceived. He quit college and joined the marines to support them. Yolanda worked as a flight attendant after their daughter was born, so Terry stayed the primary caretaker, training other marines and not deploying out of the country.
Yolanda wanted more out of life than he could provide financially and asked for a divorce when Pilar turned six. Both their families had been shocked when she granted Terry primary custody of their only child. Yolanda wanted to travel the world and her career let her do that. She eventually settled in Atlanta, working for Delta. Pilar adjusted to being shuttled back and forth for holidays and summers.
Then Bryson popped up, freeing Yolanda from the working class. He was older, established, and child-free. Also very generous with his money.
Terry had made arrangements to send Pilar abroad for a lavish wedding the following summer as her mother's flower girl. She and Bryson had planned to spend the Christmas holiday with the entire Richmond family so that they could all meet the new man who would be connected to them through Pilar. Christmas was going to be the rare treat of being with both her parents for a holiday. The Richmond clan had reserved fancy cabins by a lake for a week and planned on turning it into a family reunion of sorts. Yolanda offered to arrange her Christmas plans for the reunion so Pilar wouldn't miss out on seeing all of her cousins from all over the states. Now she eloped and switched up on their child three months in advance.
Terry kept his anger in check in front of Pilar. He'd call Yolanda when his daughter was back in school and give her a smooth cuss out. He offered to switch Thanksgiving for Christmas because it was important for Pilar to experience a big reunion for the first time on his side of the family.
Pilar turned her head from the pillow. Big, wet eyes stared at him. Her bottom lip trembled and his heart squeezed in his chest. His daughter was the light of his life. Watching her expectations crumble hurt his soul. Pilar came first before anything, and that was the difference between him and Yolanda. Their daughter became a secondary consideration with her. His ex wasn't a terrible person. He loved her once a long time ago. She was ambitious, energetic, pretty, and gave him a perfect child. Yolanda just wasn't cut out to be a mother saddled with the responsibility of putting her daughter's emotional needs first. To Yolanda, whisking Pilar off to Rome probably sounded like giving her child the best in life. Bryson was an American Express Exec for their Italian branch and lived in a lavish home with staff and chauffeurs. Yolanda shopped, dined, and played tennis every day in luxury. She wanted Pilar to experience that lifestyle. In his own way, Terry wanted their daughter to have that chance, too. But without pulling the rug from under Pilar. She set her heart on having them all together for once since their divorce.
"Tell you what…I'll talk to her and try to convince them to come for Christmas."
"She said the cruise is their early honeymoon and they want me to go so we can bond as a new family. I already have a family!"
Pilar buried her face in his chest, and he stroked her hair.
"How about we go to Cholly's Burgers for dinner and you can mope over a double cheeseburger and a big chocolate malt?"
Pilar sniffled and wiped her nose.
"Okay, I'll go…but I can't guarantee that I'll feel better."
"Deal," he said.
He left her alone in her room and went down to the kitchen and put her sandwich and juice away. Checking emails on his smartphone, he spent the next couple of hours watching TV and then ironed Pilar's clothes for school. He showered and called his daughter down for their dinner trip. Outside, their new neighbor carried some things from her cream-colored Mercedes S-Class in the driveway.
"Excuse me," the woman called as Pilar jumped into his truck's passenger side.
"Yeah?" he called back.
"Hi, I'm Allegra…new neighbor…um, can you tell me what day the trash and recycling go out?"
"Thursdays!" Pilar called out.
His daughter had her head stuck out of the window with a big grin on her face.
"Yeah, Thursdays. They normally roll through around eleven a.m.," he said.
"Great, thanks."
"I'm Terry, and this is my daughter, Pilar—"
"Are you married? Have kids?" Pilar asked.
Allegra smiled politely, holding a small box. Her eyes bounced from Pilar's to his, then back to Pilar.
"I'm not married. No kids."
Pilar whipped her head around to look at Terry. He ignored her.
"Have a good evening," he said.
He climbed into his truck and started it up.
"You're really not good at finding a date, Dad."
"What are you talking about, little girl?"
He backed out of their driveway and headed toward the main road that led to the highway.
"A single, beautiful woman with a fancy car asked you about trash day. She could've called her realtor or looked it up online."
"We were right there in front of her. It's quicker to ask a neighbor. That woman is not looking to date people she lives around. Besides, she saw me with you, so she'll think I'm married with a family already."
"She'll know pretty soon that it's just you and me."
"I don't think most upwardly mobile Black women are interested in men that already have children nowadays."
It took them twenty minutes to arrive at the burger joint, and Pilar's mood lifted considerably. They talked about her upcoming soccer game and she slurped down her chocolate malt content with life once again.
Back home, he washed and braided her hair in two cornrows, tying it down with a black satin hair scarf so he wouldn't have to do her hair in the morning. Their evening bedtime routine went off without a hitch and he allowed her to watch a cartoon before she went to sleep in her room.
The next couple of weeks were normal in the Richmond household. He'd ride his bike in the morning to take Pilar to school, following behind her as she skateboarded ahead of him with her classmates. Later, he'd ride his bike over to check on the restaurant he invested in. He spent a few days with his financial advisor and moved some money around that he received from a police settlement. His current financial status allowed him to enjoy not having the worries of steady employment until he found something he wanted to do. He put funds in stocks that did well, paid off the townhouse, and Yolanda's monthly child support covered the rest for Pilar. His woodworking kept him busy during the afternoon while Pilar was in school. But once she was home, he went straight into daddy mode. Soccer Dad duty, carpooling to games, checking homework, cooking and cleaning, fixing things at his parent's house and running their errands…they all filled his time.
Once a week he went bowling with friends and drank at bars, chasing a little tail, but not really trying to catch much. His three older sisters rotated keeping Pilar with their kids so he could have some adult time. The last few "dates" he had were with single moms who complained about their ex-husbands or ex boyfriends. He thought one woman named Michaela would be a long-term situation, but she reconciled with her boyfriend and moved to Dallas.
After a Saturday soccer practice, Pilar came to him and asked if she could bake some cookies for a school party. It was nearing Halloween. He pulled out some easy to bake pre-made Tollhouse cookie dough from the freezer. All Pilar had to do was place the small chocolate chip cookie dough squares onto a baking sheet and use the stove timer to keep them from burning.
He kicked up his feet to watch the news and when the stove buzzer went off, he trotted into the kitchen to make sure Pilar didn't burn herself by taking them out of the oven with the oven mits. She only baked a dozen.
"Shouldn't you bake more for your class?" he asked.
"It's a potluck, so people are just bringing whatever to share."
After they cooled, she used a spatula to scoop them onto a decorative plate of pumpkins and fall leaves. He covered them with plastic wrap.
"Maybe you should put them in some Tupperware," he suggested.
"No, this is good."
He left her to handle her party business.
Terry didn't think anything about the cookies until three days later when Allegra showed up at his open garage door. His electric sander and earplugs prevented him from hearing her approach. He turned toward the street and almost jumped, not expecting someone to be standing near his truck watching him. Shutting off the sander, he pulled out the earplugs and stared at her with his goggles on.
"Sorry to startle you…Terry…right?"
He nodded.
"I came over to bring you back your cookie plate. That was such a thoughtful housewarming gift. I ate every single chocolate chip cookie. Perfectly gooey in the center the way I like! The note you wrote was really sweet, too. Thank you so much."
"I'm sorry?" he said in confusion.
Terry pushed up his goggles. Allegra handed him the plate that wasn't empty. On it were slices of banana bread. He looked at the baked goods, then back at her.
"To show my appreciation for the cookies…I just made it last night. I didn't put nuts in it because I don't know if anyone in your family is allergic to nuts."
"No, we aren't."
"I'll remember that."
Allegra's pretty eyelashes curled over naturally, and her lips had just enough red lipstick to give her plump lips a rosy tint. She was dream girl material, and the cut and style of her bob reminded him of something the old Black starlets wore in the sixties, but it looked contemporary too with a soft flip on the ends. Terry became lost in her face and she seemed equally lost in his, her gaze never leaving his eyes. That was one of the physical traits that women always said they loved about him. The green, lion-like eyes. She looked up at him and their size difference was quite obvious. She was petite-chic, the cut and color of her clothes making her seem taller far away. Allegra was shorter than his ex wife. He felt like a big giant standing next to her. She smelled so good. Her perfume hinted at jasmine in the summer.
"My daughter and I will enjoy this. Thanks for bringing it over with the plate," he said.
Allegra smiled and his chest caved in. Was it possible for her to be even more attractive with a smile on her face?
She glanced around his makeshift workshop.
"Woodworking? You do this for a living?" she asked.
He stepped aside to let her see the dining cabinet he built for another neighbor.
"Actually, it's a hobby of mine."
"Hobby? This is true craftsmanship."
He touched the side of the cabinet.
"I learned it from my dad and kept at it in highschool."
"If I paid you, could you make me a couple of custom bookshelves?"
"What type of wood?"
"Not too expensive."
"I can make some maple wood shelves and stain them to look expensive.'
"I like your way of thinking. When I get the time, I'll measure my walls and let you know what I need."
"Still settling in?"
"My god, I haven't unpacked all of my boxes. I'm still eating takeout because I dread unpacking everything in my kitchen. My new job keeps me busy and I'm usually too tired by the end of the day. I should be unpacking right now, but I have to leave for an event soon."
She sighed and pushed back a flipped curl on her forehead.
"I better let you get back to work. Again…thank you for the sweet welcoming gesture."
Allegra left him alone in the garage and he watched her walk back across the street to her place. She had a little sway in her hips as she walked in her well-fitted navy blue dress pants and structured white button-down shirt. The light pink cardigan sweater tied around her shoulders was such a classy touch, along with her chunky blocked-heeled pumps.
He looked down at his dust-laden ripped jeans and brown work apron. Not too shabby, but he almost wanted to spruce up. He took the plate into the kitchen and checked the time. Pilar would be there in half an hour. He wanted to know what she wrote in that note to Allegra.
Running a hot shower, he cleaned his body and stared at his reflection in the mirror afterward. Time for a fresh line-up. His facial hair looked a little ungroomed. He took time to shave and then changed into better jeans and a fitted long sleeve shirt. He waited at the front door, peeking out of the screen.
Allegra stepped into her Mercedes wearing a pastel coral cocktail dress with an upswept hairdo, looking like Diahann Carroll with a smidgen of Grace Kelly. She drove off to wherever she needed to go and he imagined how breathtaking she'd look, stepping into a crowded room with all eyes on her beauty.
Ka-kump. Ka-kump. Ka-kump.
Pilar glided onto the sidewalk near their house and headed for the garage.
"I'm right here," he said.
She looked at him through the screen. He opened it and stepped outside. Folding his arms over his wide chest, he gave his daughter a questioning look.
"Am I in trouble?" she asked.
Her friends Caleb, Trudy, and Aisha waved at her and kick-pushed their skateboards toward their houses while yelling hello to him.
"You baked those cookies for Miss Allegra. Not a school party."
Pilar gave him a sheepish grin.
"What did you write in the note?"
"I just said something like…welcome to the neighborhood. Enjoy these homemade cookies. Then I put your name on it."
"Just my name?"
"Yes."
"She brought the plate back and made us some banana bread."
"Ooh!" Pilar said, rubbing her hands together. "My plan is set in motion."
"What plan?"
"Dad…c'mon. Miss Allegra is the best-looking woman around here. I think you should ask her out on a date."
"I don't need my ten-year-old setting us up."
Pilar put a hand on her hip.
"Well, Auntie Brianna and Auntie Sloane said she's gorgeous and they think you should get to know her. She might be your perfect fit."
"How would they know? They've never seen her."
"I snuck a picture of her on my phone and sent it to them."
"Why the sudden interest in getting me to date?"
Pilar's gaze dropped to the ground.
"No reason. She's new and you don't go out as much anymore."
"That's because I have to take care of you. You're my priority. Dating can always come later."
He stepped aside and let her come in with her skateboard.
"It was a nice thing you did…giving her the cookies," he said.
Pilar grinned.
Terry was an adept father and took pride in keeping a meticulous home, and his child put together well when she exited the front door. Two weeks before Thanksgiving, Pilar started coming home from school with wildly disheveled hair. Even if he put protective styles in with twists or high buns with little curls framing her face with cute tendrils, his daughter returned looking like her head went through a blender.
She'd claim it was the weather. Bad rainfall, or the wind messing it up, but for ten school days, she rolled back home with her hair every which-way, rubber bands busted, barrettes missing, and knocker ball hair bobbles vanished into thin air. She'd roll through, and each time, their neighbor Allegra would be outside collecting her mail. Pilar would wave and say "Hi!" really loud and Allegra responded in kind before stepping back into her house.
He assumed she wanted her hair out, craving to wear hairstyles like her older girl cousins. Rather than make a big deal about it, he started putting a headband on her.
One Saturday afternoon, Pilar played outside on the curved part of the cul-de-sac with her friends, kicking a soccer ball into Caleb's two netted goal posts. A typical loud day of children freely running around screaming and playing in the street. Pilar rocked a bushy 'fro and had the loudest voice out of the bunch.
He kept an eye out for them while watching a football game by leaving his livingroom shades open. Snacking on some chips, he turned his head to check on the action outside.
He quickly ducked his head down low.
Allegra played outside with the children.
Terry hid behind the couch and secretly watched Allegra interact with the neighborhood kids doing soccer ball tricks with her knees and sneaker'd feet. She kicked the ball to Pilar and his daughter charged her, heading for a goal post. Allegra wasn't shy about her defensive moves and easily swiped the ball away from his daughter, kicking it with a curved arc into the opposite goal post. All the children squealed in delight and high-fived her. She stepped aside to let the children continue their boisterous match up.
Terry's back ached from being hunched over spying. Pilar spoke to Allegra for a long time, ignoring her friends, and her bouncy energy kept a smile on the woman's face. Allegra glanced toward his open window and Terry dropped to the floor, hiding his body.
He waited five minutes.
"Why are you on the floor, Daddy?"
Pilar stood above him with a quizzical expression. She'd come in the house through the garage door.
"Stretching my back out," he said.
"But you're on your stomach."
"Can I help you with something?" he said, standing up.
Outside, Allegra stood watching him through the window.
"I asked Miss Allegra how she kept her hair so pretty and she told me her hair care routine. I'm coming to get a pen and paper for her to write it down so you can take care of my hair."
"What? I know how to take care of your hair! I've been doing it since you were born."
Pilar grabbed a Bic pen and tore a piece off some junk mail envelope sitting on the coffee table.
"Daddy, please. Work with me here. I've been looking raggedy for two weeks to get her attention. She finally asked about my curls and I asked about her hair."
Pilar dashed out the front door before he could stop her. She handed Allegra the pen and paper. Terry became flustered. His daughter pretended to be unkempt to fool a grown woman into having sympathy for him.
Allegra scribbled on the paper outside and he felt exposed for something that wasn't true. Pilar ran back into the house through the front door and handed him the half envelope. Most of what Allegra listed, Terry already had in his bathroom for his daughter.
However…she wrote her phone number down, too.
"Boo-ya!" Pilar said, flinging her fingers open like an explosion going off.
"Come into the kitchen with me," he said.
Pilar followed him.
"Sit," he commanded.
He stuffed the half envelope in his back pocket.
"Pilar…babygirl…I know you mean well, but please…stop the antics."
"But Daddy—"
"I mean it."
His voice went down an octave, his baritone sounding harsh. Pilar ran from the kitchen table and stomped loudly up the stairs. He closed his eyes in frustration and waited fifteen minutes before going upstairs.
Pilar cried on her bed. Her loud bawling startled him.
"Munchkin…I'm not mad…I just…you don't have to do this."
"I do!" she wailed.
He sat in his usual spot and let her get her emotions out. She eventually calmed down to gaspy shudders and sad moans of pain. He brushed her hair back, and she threw her arms around his neck.
"I don't want you being alone. Mom married somebody and now she gets to be happy. I want you to be happy, too, Daddy."
"Munchkin, I am happy. I have you…grampy and grandma, your aunts, my friends—"
She shook her head against his neck.
"It's not the same as having someone for yourself. I'll grow up and go to college and you'll be here by yourself. Everyone in our family has someone. Grampy has Grandma, Auntie Brianna has Uncle Mitch…Auntie Sloane has Uncle Kenny. Even Auntie Monique has her boyfriend Gordon. I'm scared for you, Daddy. You're such a good, kind person and you deserve what Mommy has."
Pilar burst into more tears and his eyes grew blurry. He wiped them and pulled back from his daughter.
"It's not your responsibility to worry about me. My job is to worry about you, hear me?"
Pilar kept crying. Her nose ran, but she nodded at his words.
"When the time comes for me to find my special someone…it'll happen. Naturally. Understand?"
"Y-Y-Yessss," she blubbered.
He kissed her forehead and used his thumbs to wipe away warm tears.
"Can I tell you something that will make you happy?"
"O-O-Okayyyy," she choked out.
"Your Mom and 'that man' agreed to change their plans back to coming out for Christmas. And, I don't have to trade Thanksgiving."
"For real?"
"For real. In fact, Bryson urged your mother to reconsider, and he rescheduled the cruise for next year. He's not so bad, huh?"
Pilar sniffled, and her swollen red eyes pained him.
"I guess not."
"Let's make a deal, okay? You don't worry about hooking me up and just enjoy being a little girl with a happy father."
"Are you happy?"
"I am. I have you and a very full life. Promise. Go wash your face and get back outside with your friends."
"Okay, Daddy."
She jumped off the bed and ran to the hall bathroom. He went to her bedroom window and peeked out from the blinds. Allegra went back into her home. He pulled the scrap of envelope from his back pocket and stared at her phone number.
Saturday afternoons were usually Terry and Pilar's time to decompress and watch movies together. Sometimes there was a slumber party with her cousins at their house or one of his sister's. But on this particular Saturday, it was football fever on the flatscreen TV with his buddies while Pilar was at her grandparents' house.
Terry had plenty of pizzas and beer, and his sound system blasted the play-by-play of the game. He enjoyed the company of his buddies, all Black men with families, and very little free time except for the small moments of respite at Terry's place. The Steelers beat the Commanders and the guys talked shit, then they played his AuxGod Hip Hop Edition game. He rapped his ass off while playing Nas's "One Mic" on his smartphone and got his friends hyped to share R&B music. They all howled when someone messed up playing the wrong songs based on cards they pulled, thinking they had the perfect jam. Good clean fun.
The afternoon wound down into late evening and he cleaned up pizza boxes and empty beer cans. His friends bumped fists and gave each other dap as they left out the front door. Rain started falling, and he noticed Allegra pulling into her driveway. The late hour had him guessing she had a night out again. Her job didn't keep her from a busy social life. He often caught sight of her coming and going on the weekends. One time, another car brought her home and stayed overnight in her driveway.
He waved his friends away and pulled out his cell to call his father.
"Hey Junior," his father said.
"Hey, Pops. How's it going over there?"
"Good. The girls are playing and your mama is letting them stay up late to watch some Godzilla movie on Amazon Prime."
"I wanted to say goodnight to Pilar."
"No problem, hold on…Pilar! Your Dad is on the phone!"
Terry waited for his daughter, and soon enough, her voice rang in his ear.
"Hey, Dad."
"Being good?"
"Of course. What time are you picking me up tomorrow?"
"After you get back from church."
"Aw man. You can't get me early, so I don't have to go?"
"I had to suffer through it. It's your turn now."
"But they take forever. Even God goes to sleep by the time that preacher gets done."
"Hey, don't blaspheme, and don't you two keep Grampy and Grandma up too late, okay?"
"We won't. Night, Dad!"
Terry swiped his smartphone and noticed Allegra's car lights were still on. She hadn't left her driveway. He guessed she was talking on her cell phone.
His house smelled of cigars, pepperoni, and Budweiser. He finished cleaning up and sprayed the dining room with air freshener. Rolling his neck muscles, he climbed up to his bedroom. His blinds were open, and he checked the street again.
Allegra stood near her car in the rain looking up at the sky. She stuck her tongue out, tasting the droplets, and spun around in a circle with her arms outstretched. He smiled. She looked like a big kid having fun.
The rain drenched her hair, and she swiped it back, her tresses turning into slick ringlets. The playfulness she exuded cracked something open inside of him. Maybe Pilar was right. Maybe he did want someone to share his life with. He and Allegra barely exchanged enough words in passing for him to sense that she would be open to going out for a coffee or dinner. She never got back to him about the bookshelves, and he never called her phone number to ask about the hair care products she suggested for Pilar.
His confidence in asking women out had waned that year. Each time he thought he might want to spend time with a woman, schedules didn't match up, or he didn't feel that pull to pursue a relationship. The spark wasn't there. Part of him was afraid to put his heart back out there. His ex, Yolanda, had been a heartbreak he finally let go of two years ago. It frightened him into not wanting to be vulnerable with another woman again. Romantic love was for the brave, and Terry was not feeling brave anymore.
But Allegra?
After shaking her arms, she finally went inside her house, not caring that her snazzy outfit was soaked clear through to her skin. He looked at his dresser. The envelope with her number sat next to his hairbrush.
He texted her number.
Hi, Allegra. This is your neighbor, Terry. I was going to pick up some lumber at Home Depot tomorrow and wanted to know if you were still interested in getting bookshelves made? No rush to answer. I'm always going there every other week. If you changed your mind, that's cool, too.
He sent it off, and seconds later, she rang him up.
"Hello?"
He sounded breathless.
"Hi…Terry? It's Allegra…from across the street. Got your message."
"Oh, great. Sorry for texting so late. I was about to turn in and wanted to ask you before I forgot and left tomorrow."
He winced. His words came out in a rush of nervous energy.
"I do want the bookshelves made. I've been so busy I just never got around to measuring anything. Could you come by tomorrow before you leave and take a look at my floor space? You'd have a better idea of measurements than I would."
Terry stared at his reflection in the mirror. His eyes turned into saucers.
"I can do that. I've got to pick up my daughter from church tomorrow at one. I can drop by with my digital tape measure before then and then go to Home Depot."
"Can I go with you? I'd like to see the wood you're considering besides the maple you told me about."
"Uh…sure."
"What time should I expect you over here?"
"Let's say ten?"
"Great, see ya then."
"Goodnight."
He hung up, stunned.
She wanted to go with him to the Depot?
"So, what do you think? Two shelves here and then two more in my office room?"
Allegra watched him make final calculations on his phone. He surveyed her living room set-up one more time to ensure efficient use of her space. They'd spent a good twenty minutes upstairs in her stylish office and he made a quick sketch on his notepad of the shelving unit he could make for her in there. She would pay for the wood and any extra supplies he needed, and he insisted on doing the work for free.
The layout in her house was roomy and leaned toward a mid-century modern styled interior. She liked rich and luxurious wood furniture with mustard yellow and avocado-colored accents. Her home fit her personal style the way he imagined it would. It had a timeless quality. He told her a little about the family that lived there before she bought the place, and the conversation meandered into her own hobbies of painting and gardening. She showed him her patio space in the back and he offered to build her plant containers to grow her favorite flowers. Those were easy to put together and would be cheaper than her buying them pre-made online.
He learned that she had been a highschool soccer star, and that talent landed her a full-ride scholarship to Brown University where she almost landed a spot on the Olympic team. But a skiing accident ruined her shot. She still liked to watch the game and play occasionally.
Allegra worked from home mostly as an In-House attorney for a legal firm with document heavy cases, thus the need for bookshelves to hold all her law books. She did contract reviews, legal research, and dealt with a lot of intellectual property research for her clients.
Terry listened to her talk about herself, and her warm personality gave him the courage to open up about himself. Of course, he bragged about Pilar, and on their way to Home Depot, he pointed out places of interest to her.
"I always wanted to live in a small town," she said. "I grew up in New England, but my grandparents were from here, so I had annual trips for holidays and always liked it. Now that I can work remotely from home, I put stakes in the ground and live here full time. Getting away from the east coast has been a relief. This place makes me happy."
"We love it here. Excellent schools, nice people who look out for each other."
"It's just you and Pilar?"
"Yep. My ex remarried and moved to Europe."
"Co-parenting overseas must be rough."
"Yolanda…my ex…she recently moved there. It's going to be a change for sure. I'm used to Pilar flying a quick hop to Atlanta. Now, she'll have partial summers there and I don't know if I can handle her flying so far away where I can't get to her fast, y'know?"
"I had to do it when I was young. My parents divorced when I was twelve. I hopped from Boston to England to stay with my dad and his new wife on my school breaks. My mother was a nervous wreck at first, but you adjust."
"I hope so. I try to be stoic for Pilar, but I know I'll be in shambles when she flies out there next year."
Allegra laughed and the sound of her voice so close comforted him.
"I'll help talk you down when those nerves kick up," she said.
They walked up and down aisles at the Home Depot, and since he was a regular, the workers there were quick to help him because he didn't waste time. Terry explained the different type of wood options and they compared prices. He did his best to keep costs down for her, and she went along with whatever he thought was best. She'd seen his work output and trusted his skills.
He loaded up the truck bed, and they swooped over to his grandparents' church to pick up Pilar. His daughter's eyes widened when she noticed Allegra sitting in the truck. She ran past Terry and chatted with Allegra. He soon introduced his parents to her, and they invited her to attend a church service in the future.
Pilar hopped in the seat behind Allegra, and he drove them back to their home.
"I'll unload this and start working on your shelving units tomorrow," he said.
"Great."
Pilar watched them interact. She wore the goofiest grin on her face.
Allegra took off across the street and he watched her leave along with Pilar. When she was outside of earshot, Pilar grabbed his arm.
"You hung out with her?" she enthused.
"We talked about her bookshelves."
"So you went inside her house and spent time with her, right?"
"I did."
"Isn't she cool? She plays soccer, and she likes monster movies…"
Pilar stopped gushing about Allegra.
"I forgot. You told me not to interfere."
"I might've been wrong about that," he said.
Pilar's face lit up.
"Oh, yeah?"
"I like her. She's really nice and smart."
"My work here is done," Pilar said.
She skipped into the house, and he unloaded the truck.
Making bookshelves and planter boxes was the beginning.
Next came inviting Allegra over for football game gatherings with his family.
He introduced her to his oldest sister who gave birth to a baby boy, her first, and he watched Allegra nervously hold the newborn with trepidation in her eyes.
"You got it…just hold his head like this and keep him close to you…yeah, see, you got it," he said.
Terry's new nephew was a little chocolate drop.
"He's so tiny and adorable," Allegra said.
All of his sisters liked her, and his mother took the grand gesture of inviting her to join them on their family Christmas trip. Allegra looked genuinely receptive to the idea, but she already had plans to fly out to Boston to spend the winter holiday with her family. Terry felt bummed about it and realized that he was catching feelings for her.
He kept their budding friendship platonic, but by the following spring, it was clear to everyone around them that something was blooming past friendship. They hadn't been physical with each other yet, not even kissing. He liked the slow, easy pace. It gave him time to know her before jumping into anything serious, especially since he had Pilar to think of.
His daughter was crazy about Allegra.
He was too.
As time ticked on and it grew closer to the time that Pilar would have to fly overseas, his anxiety spiked. He was not planning on attending the celebration. His former sister-in-law, Zarah, was going to fly the long distance with Pilar to Rome.
The day his daughter was to leave, he paced in his living room, going over Pilar's packing list several times. Allegra hung out with him, reassuring him that all would be well. Zarah was on her way in a Lyft to pick up Pilar. They all thought it best that he say his goodbyes from home and not go to the airport.
"Go to the restroom one more time before you leave," he told his daughter.
Pilar ran upstairs to her bathroom.
"I'm going to put the roast in the oven for our dinner tonight," Allegra said. "Be right back."
He walked her outside of his home. When Allegra reached the sidewalk, she turned around to face him. For the first time, she slid her arms around his waist and looked up at him.
"You're a great Dad, Terry. Pilar is so lucky to have you…and so am I."
Terry locked eyes with her, and any fears he had about taking a chance on finding love melted away.
"May I kiss you?" he asked.
Her eyes twinkled like she'd been waiting her whole life to hear him say those four words.
"Yes, you may, Mr. Richmond."
He placed his forehead against hers first and savored the moment before the moment. Yes, he deserved someone for himself. His wily daughter had been so correct in her assessment of him. Forever grateful for Pilar's push to get him out into the world with the special woman in his arms, Terry lowered his head and kissed Allegra.
His full, lush lips were nothing compared to the soft place of comfort he found pressed against her mouth. Her lips coaxed a passion out of him he hadn't felt in years. He kept the kiss a little below chaste…she gave him a little teasing of her tongue to entice him for more later, when they would be alone. His grin broke their physical contact and the butterflies in his stomach told him she was the one to take a chance with.
He pushed a fluffy bang away from her left eye and Allegra glanced up toward his second floor. Terry followed her gaze, and they both glimpsed Pilar looking down at them from her bedroom window. She fist-pumped her right hand, and the expression she gave them was pure joy.
Her little plan worked.
Author's Note:
I wanted to write something fast and fluffy to put out the day after the horror of that anti-Black orange menace being put back in office by racist white people and their non-Black PoC racist minions. Black women need soft, joyful things to get us through. We all we got. Remember that.

wait the idea of aaron and ellie soothing each other 🥺
like; ellie's having a hard time falling asleep, staying asleep, or has a nightmare, and rolls out of bed in search of either you or aaron. meanwhile, aaron's having a hard time falling asleep himself 🥺 whether due to a case, he's forcing himself to work late, or his mind just won't switch off.
and so ellie finds him in the living room, sees he's awake quietly watching a show, and is scooting up onto him immediately.
he just quietly mumbles, "what are you doing awake?" and ellie just shrugs, getting all comfy on him while he switches over to a more kid friendly tv show, laying the blanket over her too 🥺 they silently watch, and both drift off soundly soon after. no discussions needed, just presence.
and you find them there in the morning 🥹 still on the couch, completely zonked. ellie's more comfortable than aaron of course - sleeping on him, while he's slightly hanging off the couch, his neck is laid at a awkward angle (you know he's gonna be achy when he wakes up 😭)
but the sight just makes your heart soar hehe 🥹🫶🏻 you can infer they both had a rough night :( but in the end, they simply just needed each other 💞

Aaron Warner is a good father.
He really is, he educated himself on the risks, pros and cons, he even bought himself a book on how to take care of his pregnant wife, a beginners guide on being a father and what not.
He would like to pride himself that he knows about everything, knows how to handle when the baby cries, when the baby throws a tantrum, or when his daughter wants something and such.
but…
If there was one fact no one mentioned to Warner about being a father, it was just how quickly his sex life would evaporate.
He loves dior, he really does. She is his most beloved daughter, baby girl, light of his life, his princess, his Achilles heel (plus you, of course.) and unfortunately the bane of his existence.
he’s kidding.
but of course there are some times that he just wants an alone time with you, his beautiful wife without being interrupted by a certain little princess.
All because you drove him to madness, igniting an insatiable desire within him, awakening the hidden beast that eagerly salivated and panted in response to your lustful glances, strategically unleashed whenever the mood struck.
He would be a fool to lie and pretend you didn’t stir something inside of him, some wretched version of himself rattled the bars of its cage, akin to a hurricane relentlessly tearing through barriers to reach you whenever you allowed your sugar-sweet voice to caress his sensitive ears.
He was a slave for the love you easily gave him as if it’s the easiest thing you can ever do. How can you easily love someone like him? a hopeless man yearning for thirst and begging for a single drink, a solitary taste, as if dying of thirst and pleading at your feet.
You were his goddess, and the privilege of sharing your bed, your throne, surpassed all his wildest dreams. Simply being by your side was more than he believed he deserved, and he vividly recalled the day he first encountered you—the day you convinced him that he was truly worth something.
—
The room is awash with the silvery glow of the moon, you notice, setting a tranquil atmosphere that amusingly contradicts the feverish warmth of Aaron's caresses. His kisses trace a journey from the curve of your neck to the hollow of your navel. However, any sense of composure shatters when your husband playfully bites your right nipple, sending all rational thoughts scattering out the window.
“Ah, Aaron,” you groan after a sharp nip against your collarbone. “fuck! baby…I—we can’t—!”
“Shh, we can, love. Dior is asleep” he whispers against your ear, “just let me take care of my wife, yeah?” He said as he caressed your hair, admiring your beauty under him. “It’s just us…” he said as he chuckled and that made you shiver.
“Pretty, momma…look at you, my pretty wife.” Aaron shifts to readjust himself as he hurriedly vanishes the remaining clothes and attacks your lips and kisses you passionately and hungrily as if he has been starved for years.
“Gods—look at you, ma, pretty as life and poison, want me to put another baby on you, hm?” he said as he dragged his teeth against your chest to taste your beating heart and he then placed soft and slow kisses on your face while stroking your face with his thumb.
You draw him closer, intending for a light and sweet kiss to allow your husband to continue his gentle touches. Yet, it’s not your fault that you find yourself getting lost in the sheer perfection that is Warner.
He, in turn, envelops both of you with his hand, stirring a gentle desire for more within you and oh, dear god, you need more.
Just as you are about to open your mouth to voice out your desires for a little more, a soft, almost inaudible knock interrupts the intimate moment.
The unmistakable soft voice of your three-year-old daughter pierces through the room, calling out, “momma..? dada..?” Panic flashes between you and Aaron, and hastily, you both scramble to locate your discarded clothes.
“mommy! daddy!” yelled dior through the door as she started knocking continuously that makes you and your husband panic more. “‘s da door broken..?!”
“just a second, princess,” Aaron softly calls out, panicking when his hard-on doesn’t seem to go away. Hell.
He glances up at his wife and stares at you, baffled when he realizes that you had already put on your night gown and on your way to open the door.
“Wha—how?” he asks in disbelief. “You were literally just—”
“Don’t underestimate me.” You joked.
Aaron dismissively shakes his head, muttering under his breath, and takes a seat on the bed, discreetly covering his arousal with the white comforter just as Dior bursts into the room and enthusiastically throws herself into your arms.
“Hey, baby,” you whisper, gently rubbing comforting circles on her back. “Nightmare, love?”
"Uh-huh," Dior nods against your neck, her tears leaving your nightgown slightly damp.
you picked her up and went to the bed as dior hugged her dad, sniffing as she softly cried, “oh, darling. What happened, princess? hm?” Asked Warner as he hugged his crying daughter to his arms.
“I—hiccup t-thought monsters got you,” said dior, her green eyes filled with tears. you then pulled her into a hug.
“aw, baby, we are fine,” you said, patting her back. you brush the blonde curls out of your daughter’s eyes. “yeah, sweetheart, no monsters here.”
“Are you sure?” She asked, looking suspiciously around their room.
“Promise,” you replied, assuringly as you stood up to rock her to calm her down.
“We promised, sweet princess. And if there is, daddy will scare the ugly monsters away,” your husband assured her from the bed as dior starting to calm down,
“really?” she said with a shaky voice and a glassy doe eyes and you almost cried seeing her state.
Poor baby.
“I promise, Di, daddy will protect you and momma.” Aaron said sincerely as you rocked her back and forth in your arms, running your fingers through her wild curls.
Dior sniffles start to quiet down. “Mhm…,” she says. “Can I stay here?” She looks at you with puppy eyes that is impossible for you to say no so you nodded.
“Of course, princess ,” Aaron responds, quietly mourning the loss of one night with his wife, alone.
As you continue rocking Dior in your arms, attempting to lull her into a peaceful slumber, your efforts are momentarily interrupted by her sweet voice, breaking the silence of the room.
“Mommy?” Dior queries after a few minutes, perched on your lap with a wide-eyed expression. “What's wrong with daddy?”
Your gaze shifts toward Aaron, who remains sprawled face-down on the bed, emitting occasional groans and muffled whines in his attempt to compose himself for the sake of your toddler. Suppressing a grin, you find amusement in his comical efforts.
“Well, Di,” you murmur, showering light kisses on your daughter’s chubby cheeks to conceal your amusement. “I think your daddy is having a nightmare, much like the one you just experienced.”
Dior gasps in innocent concern. ”Oh no! Mommy, give daddy kisses to scare the monsters away!”
Smiling at her pure-hearted suggestion, you gently explain, “I don’t think that will help, sweet thing.” Observing Dior's face scrunch up in confusion, you swiftly add, ”You see, adults have different nightmares than kids do.”
“But kisses always help!” Dior insists with unwavering conviction.
”Well, if you insist,” you reply, giving in to her innocent plea, and share a quiet laugh at the sheer delight evident on Dior's face.
As you comply with dior’s request, you peppered kisses onto your husband’s face, eliciting a chorus of giggles from both him and Dior.
After showering Aaron with a cascade of kisses, he playfully remarks, "Mhm, daddy is okay now, but he'll be even more okay if you give daddy a kiss too."
Dior, with her eyes sparkling, responds enthusiastically, "Okay, Daddy!" She complies, peppering him with a flurry of sweet kisses as you heard Aaron giggles so you did, and in the midst of the joyous exchange, she graciously plants kisses on your face, too.
“Thank you, baby. Ready for sleep?” You asked and the response is a barely there nod.
“Love you and g’night, little missy.” You whisper, your voice sounds like a lullaby to the quiet room.
Aaron chimes in, taking on the role of the protector, “daddy will be right here, chasing away any monsters that dare to bother you, emerald.”
Dior, even in her drowsy state, manages to mumble a sleepy “luvu, daffy, momfy” before succumbing to dreams. The room, now quiet except for the soft breathing of your little one.
Your husband then looked at you and softly smiled, “I’ll chase all of your monsters away, too, love.” you softly giggled and gave him a peck.
However, as the night deepens, you feel a pair of eyes on you. Turning your attention, you find your husband, his expression akin to a kicked puppy, a playful pout adorning his features. It’s a silent plea for the solitude that eluded him tonight, a longing for those moments when it’s just the two of you.
You meet his gaze, understanding the unspoken disappointment in his eyes. As a promise of solace, you assure him with a tender look that whispers, ”Next time, it'll be just us.” you promised him.
And you were never the one who breaks promises.
So, was it really a surprise that after you fulfilled your promise you found yourself with two positive pregnancy tests?
No, not really.

───────── 🍂🥧🕯️🍁─────────
It was one of those lazy Sundays. Aaron sat at the kitchen table, engrossed in his laptop as he tackled his emails. Jack, meanwhile, diligently worked on his science project at the kitchen island. You had just placed a Sunday roast dinner and a pumpkin pie into the oven before joining Jack to help him with his model of the solar system.
The kitchen was filled with a delicious aroma, accompanied by soft music playing in the background. The dark, rainy fall weather outside only added to the cozy ambiance of the room. Even after four years of marriage, you couldn't believe that this was your life now—your home, your family.
Little footsteps echoed through the house as Violet, your 3-year-old daughter, joyfully entered the kitchen. She proudly displayed the fourth outfit she had changed into in the last hour, undoubtedly leaving her room in quite a mess. But that was a problem for later. No one was going to stop her now, especially not when she was so enthusiastically staging a runway show for the entire family. She loved the attention she received from everyone and erupted into giggles whenever she got enough compliments.
Now in a pink, flowy dress, she gracefully walked up to you and her brother, performing a little spin while awaiting your verdict.
"Wow, Vi, this is the best one yet," exclaimed Jack, making his little sister giggle.
"He's absolutely right, sweetheart. This dress looks so pretty," you chimed in. Violet skipped over to her father to bask in some more of his attention. As she approached, he promptly pushed his laptop aside and turned his full attention toward her.
"Oh wow, look at this adorable little princess," he exclaimed.
She twinkled her eyes at him, tugging at the hem of her dress and performing a delicate curtsy before asking, "Will you dance with me daddy?"
"Of course, my angel," he replied, rising to his feet, which prompted giggles from Jack and you in the background. She had him so wrapped around her tiny fingers that he couldn't deny her anything.
"Can you hold me and spin really fast?" she asked sweetly as he lifted her into his arms.
"Of course, pumpkin. What song do you want?"
"Tangled!" Of course, 'Tangled' was her favorite Disney movie, and she never went to sleep without her Pascal stuffy.
"Alexa, play 'I See the Lights,'" Aaron said, and the soft melody began to fill the kitchen. They both started singing and swaying to the music, while you and Jack watched them with big smiles on your faces.
Seeing them together made your heart swell with love. You had known that Aaron was an amazing father from the moment you met him years ago. His gentleness and affection toward Jack had only deepened your love for him.
After getting married, Jack insisted on wanting a sibling, and you were confident that Aaron would be wonderful with your child too. However, he exceeded all your expectations.
Aaron had even reduced his workload to support you during and after the pregnancy and when they found out it was going to be a baby girl, both he and Jack had erupted with excitement.
Jack stood up, turned towards you, and extended his hand, asking, "Mom, may I have this dance?"
"How could I say no to such a handsome prince?" you replied, rising and taking his hand. Jack had grown so much taller since the time you first met him, when Aaron introduced you as his girlfriend. Now, he was a teenager and almost as tall as you, clearly taking after his dad in height.
Now, all of you were twirling around in the kitchen, and as your eyes met Aaron's, all you could see was pure love and bliss. The song was coming to an end when the oven timer went off.
"Thank you for the dance, my love," you said, kissing Jack on the head before walking over to the oven.
Aaron did one last, big spin with Violet in his arms, causing her to laugh cheerfully. With a big kiss on her cheek, he gently set her down, and she instantly ran over to her brother, clearly not finished with dancing.
The two siblings continued dancing while you pulled the pie out of the oven and checked on the chicken.
Aaron came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to him. He buried his face in your neck, leaving little kisses there. You placed your hand on his cheek and tilted your neck to give him better access.
"I love you so much, you know that," he whispered in your ear.
You turned around within his embrace, your hands laced around his neck. "I know, honey, I love you too."
"I'm so grateful that you chose me," Aaron said with a mixture of tenderness and sincerity in his voice.
"Aaron," you began, your eyes welling up with affectionate tears, but he stopped you, his gaze filled with warmth and appreciation.
"No, really. You gave me this," he said, pointing towards the kids with his head, "you gave me a family and a home… happiness."
"And this is only a home and a family because you are a part of it, my love," you replied, kissing his dimple.
He gazed at the kids, a glimmer of nostalgia and love in his eyes, and then back at you, his expression filled with affection. With a mischievous smile, he said, "I think we should make another one."
"Another what?" you asked, raising an eyebrow, a mix of surprise and curiosity in your voice.
"Another baby," he answered with a grin, a playful spark in his eyes that mirrored his excitement.
"Oh no, Aaron Hotchner. Don't give me that look," you said, trying to pull away, but he held you close and brought you into a kiss. You were immediately lost in the touch of his lips.
"Eww, Jackie, Mom and Dad are being gross again!" Violet exclaimed, pointing with her finger at you, which made everyone laugh.
"Okay, okay. The dance party is postponed until after dinner. Now, everyone, wash your hands and help me set the table, please," you announced, pushing Aaron away after whispering suggestively into his ear, "We'll talk about this tonight."

[2:45 PM]
“look!” your two year old daughter says, tugging your arm excitedly. you smile, watching her tightly grasp aaron’s hand as he listens closely. she leans her face closer to his as he snakes his arm around her small frame to steady her, watching intently.
“we’re matching!” she says proudly, pointing to the identical set of dimples she and her father share. she smushes her cheek closer to aaron’s to show you properly and his smile grows impossibly wide.
aaron looks up and grins at you, overly shocked as if he’s just now noticing their striking resemblance. “wow,” he laughs, pulling her even closer into his hold. “we are!” aaron smiles, just as excited as she is.

It Won’t Be Like This For Long
WC: 3K // Masterlist
Aaron Hotchner x Female!Reader
AN::This is mainly Aaron Hotchner as a girl dad because the CM writers missed out on such a great opportunity. Also Haley and Jack DON’T EXIST in this story. Italics in the story are a foreshadow to when your daughter is older!
Aaron had come home from a long case. It was especially long because it was the first case away from his family. He was told multiple times that it was too soon for him to go back, but to know that he was catching killers and saving lives, just so he could make the world a better place for you and your daughter, he would never stop.
Your daughter was only two weeks old, it was really early for him to go back, but you could tell he was getting antsy. You don’t blame him one bit, he was good at what he did. He’d been so careful during your 9th month of pregnancy, he didn’t work one case from a different state, he stayed home, working from his home office.
When your daughter finally did make her arrival, it was the one day he had to go into the office for a meeting. You were best friends with Penelope, so Aaron told her to come sit with you while he had gone. He didn’t want you to be alone in case anything happened. You promised him nothing would and you could take care of yourself, but your baby had other plans.
When your water broke while making lunch with Garcia, you began to freak out a little bit. You were so good with kids, being a teacher allowed you to be good with them. You’ve never done this yourself though. You haven’t gotten pregnant before, you hadn’t gone through 9 months of pregnancy until now, you hadn’t given birth. You were told to be calm and collected, and that’s what you were going to be. You couldn’t freak out.
“Um, Penelope.”
You took a deep breath through the pain.
“It’s time to have a little Hotchner.”
Placing a hand on your stomach, you watched as Penelope began to turn off the stove, put ingredients back in the fridge, and started frantically running around the house to find your hospital bag.
When you got in the car, you began to call Aaron’s phone. When you were met with his voicemail, Penelope was already dialing Derek. Derek would kick down the door just to make sure Hotch got the news he had been so desperately been waiting for ever since he found out you were pregnant.
Just when you were checked into your hospital room, you were met with a frantic Aaron, all while you were calm and collected. Penelope had left to give you two the time you needed and she’d wait out in the waiting room with Derek.
After being in labor for only 5 hours, your little girl decided to make herself known in the world. While you had just given birth to a human, you couldn’t help but tear up at the sight of Aaron in awe of the doctor’s taking your little girl and cleaning her up. She had dark hair, matching Aaron’s for sure.
When your eyes finally met Aaron’s, you couldn’t help but reach up to him and wipe the tears that had fallen. He was a father, to a beautiful little girl. All the insecurities that he had and that you tried to push aside when he brought them up, shined in the moment right here, when your little girl was put into your arms.
He immediately cradled you in his arms, sitting next to you, looking at the beautiful piece of art that you and him had created. There was so much love pouring out from you and him and your girl would forever be loved.
“What do you think, Aar? Hannah Hotchner?”
“I love it. I love you, I love her. Thank you for making me a dad. I promise I’m going to be the best Dad that I can be.”
“I know you’re going to be an amazing Dad, Aaron. You already are.”
With another kiss between you two, you passed Hannah into his arms, letting him hold the little girl you know he’s been dying to hold. You fell in love with him even more. The way he held her in his arms. The way he whispered, “Hi Hannah, I’m your daddy. You’re always going to be my little girl. I promise I will not let anything happen to you or your mommy or any other siblings you may have in the future.”
You were pulled out of your thoughts when you heard your daughter crying from her nursery, only a few doors down the hall. You knew she just ate less than an hour ago and she would fall back asleep shortly after a few cries. It was the self soothing method that you got used to when you were in college working for a daycare center. You hated it at first, not being able to grab the babies when they were crying, but when you had 4-5 other babies all crying during nap time, it was easiest when they learned to self-soothe.
You felt the bed begin to move, Aaron was up. You wanted him to get sleep. You knew he hadn’t gotten much during this last case, which explains the texts that you randomly got in the middle of the night checking in on you and your daughter, Hannah.
His alarm was bound to go off in an hour, so you wanted to tell him that you’d get Hannah and he could try and lay back down. He had a lot of stress, you’d take care of your daughter.
You heard him start his morning coffee pot and he walked back into your shared bedroom. He began to splash water on his face.
You got up, meeting him in the bathroom. You wrapped your arms around him and gave him a kiss. You felt the tension of his muscles relax in your touch. You both listened to Hannah crying across the hall.
“It’s gonna be okay. It won’t be like this for long. One day, we’ll look back laughing at the week we brought her home. This phase is gonna fly by. Baby, just hold on.”
Aaron turned in your arms and whispered, “I love you. Can we go get our little girl?”
You nodded as he kissed you once more, grabbing your hand and pulling you into the nursery. He turned on the lamp and saw Hannah looking up and moving. He grabbed her from the crib and she snuggled into his shoulder.
“Daddy missed you so much, Han.”
**4 years later**
You don’t know what time it was, you just know that it was early enough to still be dark and early enough that Aaron wasn’t up and getting ready for work. You had heard the door open and saw the shadow of your oldest daughter with her favorite stuffed animal and she began to crawl into bed between you and Aaron. You looked at the clock and saw it was only 4:30am.
“Hannah, what’s wrong?”
You sat up a little bit and she said, “I want to sleep with you and Daddy.”
Aaron began to turn over when he heard the two of you whispering. He couldn’t deny that when Hannah was younger, he didn’t always listen to you when he was home alone with her and wouldn’t let her self-soothe. She had him wrapped around her finger.
“Want to sleep with Daddy?”
You rolled your eyes at him and laid back down. Hannah laid into her father’s arms and Aaron tried to pull you closer to him. When you saw the shadow of him holding your little girl, you couldn’t help but want to be cuddled up with them as well.
You didn’t blame Hannah for being a daddy’s girl. He gave her everything she wanted and more. He was never the “bad cop” in the good cop, bad cop scenario. He always played the bad cop at work, you figured he needed to be the good cop sometimes.
You knew it was only a matter of time before his alarm would be going off for work and your two year old daughter would be waking up to say goodbye to him. Your pregnancy hormones were also no match for whatever time it was. Once it hit 6 am, you were already craving food for the day. All the Hotchners would be awake at 6am, whether it’s to get breakfast, coffee, or say goodbye to their dad.
A few weeks later, you found Aaron up really early. You didn’t know why, didn’t hear the phone ring or an alarm go off, so you decided to go find him.
You were currently 8 months pregnant with your third kid, so getting out of bed was a process. When you finally did go and find him, you saw the nursery light on. Taking a peak into the room before barging in, you saw him looking through the photo albums of Hannah, and your youngest daughter, Grace. Hannah and Grace were a little over 2 years a part. Their sister bond forming immediately when they met each other for the first time.
“Honey, it’s 3 in the morning, what are you doing up?”
“I couldn’t sleep. It’s Hannah’s first day of preschool today and I just, I don’t want her to go. It means she’s growing up. Time needs to slow down.”
“Aaron, you know better than anyone that time doesn’t slow down, it sometimes feels as if it speeds up.”
“She’s my little girl. I know I still have Gracie, but Han’s, Hannah’s my first little girl, she’s the one who made me a father.”
Aaron closed the photo album and grabbed it, then walked over to grab your hand and pull you back into your bedroom. Flipping on the lamp, he pulled you down onto the chair you had in the corner of the room. That chair had great usage and for a variety of things, too. Some of your most intimate moments with Aaron happened right on that chair.
When he pulled you into his lap, he placed a hand over your bump and flipped open the album. Both of you watched as you flipped through your daughter’s life for the past 4 years. Many silly and goofy pictures taken of Hannah, and Hannah with Grace, and great photos of Hannah and Aaron and Hannah and you. You were so glad you captured these moments that you could look back on.
“I’m not ready for her to go to school yet. Can we keep her home today.”
“No, Aaron, we can’t. We have things to do today. It’s better for her to go anyway. Your little girl has to start school sometime, whether you’re ready or not.”
“It’s one day.”
“Yeah, why do you think I chose her to start school in the middle of the week? So I can actually go with you to make sure that you’ll actually drop her off. I have no meetings today, I have a substitute teacher today, I can actually take a day off from work without having to worry about too much to catch up on.”
“I wasn’t going to let her skip the first day.”
“Aaron Hotchner! Don’t you lie to me.”
You both began to laugh as he said, “Okay. Fine.”
“Let’s get back to bed. We’ll get up early, make the girls breakfast. They love when Daddy makes waffles.”
“Then I can enjoy breakfast with my three favorite girls and baby #3.”
You kissed him once more and then he helped you get up. Once back into bed, you cuddled up with him and fell asleep. You were trying to wait for him to fall asleep first, but you were exhausted.
As you had a nice family breakfast with Aaron and the kids, it was then that time to get Hannah to pre-school. You had dropped Gracie off at daycare first and then Aaron drove you to the school Hannah would spend the next 5 years before moving into junior high.
As you got out of the car, Hannah grabbed her backpack and took Aaron’s hand. As Aaron held her hand, he also held yours. You could tell he was holding in the tears. He wanted to break down, he wasn’t ready for his little girl to grow up.
As soon as Aaron let go of her hand, Hannah immediately clinged onto his leg.
“I don’t want to go Daddy. Let me stay home with you.”
Aaron knelt down, quickly giving her a hug and telling her that everything would be okay. He would see her in just a few hours. She gave him another hug and he wiped her tears. Leaving a kiss on her forehead, you also saw the tears threatening to spill from his eyes. You placed your hand on his back, signaling to him that it was time for her to get going to school.
As he stood up, she held onto his leg even more. You peeled Hannah from his leg and gave her a hug. Hannah waved at you and Aaron as the teacher grabbed Hannah’s hand.
“What can I do? So it’ll be easier for her?”
“Mr. Hotchner, don’t you worry, it’ll only last a week or two. It won’t be like this for long. One day soon you’ll drop her off and she won’t even know you’re gone. This phase is going to fly by.”
You grabbed Aaron’s hand as he nodded and you both thanked her teacher. You watched as Hannah walked into school. Then that’s when you saw Aaron break down. This big bad FBI agent who never showed emotion at work, finally broke down.
As you wiped a tear from his cheek, you made your way back to your car. You had a few things you two had to get done but you wanted to hold onto this moment for a few more minutes before life continued on.
It was only a few weeks later that your 3rd baby was born, Aaron finally got his son. He was such a great girl dad, but you were glad you were able to have a boy. Both his girls could be princesses, but they weren’t afraid to get dirt on their hands either.
As you were laying in bed, trying to get some sleep after feeding your son, Nicholas, you then heard crying coming from down the hall. When you started to move, Aaron rolled over and kissed your head saying, “Get some sleep, I’ll take care of Hannah.”
“Thank you, Aaron.”
Aaron walked into Hannah’s room to find her sitting up and crying.
“What’s going on, Han?”
“Daddy, I heard a noise and it came from my closet. There might be a monster.”
“Daddy will check, I’m not going to let a monster hurt you.”
As Aaron carefully opened the closet, he saw a box had fallen down. Quickly picking it up and showing Hannah that it was just a box from one of her toys and that it was okay.
As Hannah had gone to use the bathroom and grab a drink of water, he couldn’t help that life was going fast, and that someday soon she’ll be a teenager. There won’t be this need for him anymore, no checking closets for scary monsters. He was soaking it all in. But he couldn’t help but think of Hannah as she was older.
“Dad! You’re so unfair! How come Gracie gets to go hangout with her friends but you’re keeping me hostage! Hello! Can I get the hostage hotline?”
“I’m not unfair, Grace hasn’t been drinking with her friend or sneaking out to her boyfriend’s house!”
“The only reason I’m sneaking out is because you lock me in a god damn tower 24/7.”
“Well, not really because I still let you hangout with some friends.”
She groaned at him and rolled her eyes. As she stomped up to her room and slammed her door, you couldn’t help but look at Aaron.
“Aaron, Hannah’s a good kid. She does well in school, her boyfriend treats her great.”
“She probably hates me, but that’s my little girl. I’m not going to just let her go hangout at her boyfriend’s house, who is 2 years older by the way.”
“Aaron, they’ve been best friends since she was in 3rd grade. We know his family. He grew up in our neighborhood, they played on the same soccer team since we always had her playing up.”
“I know you’re right, but it feels like just yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital and sending her off to preschool. Now she’s got a boyfriend. I don’t care who he is, no guy will ever be good enough for my little girl.”
**5 years later**
While Hannah didn’t date her best friend for much longer when they went to different colleges, she did find someone who was great, if not better for her than her first boyfriend was, and it took Aaron only a few times to recognize that.
When Hannah’s boyfriend showed up to the house, asking Aaron for Hannah’s hand in marriage, it only made him think back to the little girl he brought home as a newborn, who would cry and have him worrying 24/7.
She’s turned into a beautiful young woman, one who was smart as well and knew that her boyfriend was good for her. He was the perfect man in her eyes, he shared a lot of morals that her father had and for that, she was grateful she had such an amazing father to look up to and set standards for her boyfriend.
It wasn’t long before he was walking her down the aisle and raising her veil, giving his little girl away to the love of her life, a good man. As long as his little girl was happy, he was happy.
When Hannah got into bed, sniffles coming from her, in which he didn’t mind that it was only 4am, and he’d have to be up in an hour for work, he kissed her goodnight. He laid down beside her until her eyes were finally closed, just watching her it broke his heart because he already knows, it won’t be like this for long.
One day soon his little girl was going to be all grown up and gone. He knows the phase is going to fly by, so he’s trying to hold on. He knows it won’t be like this for long.

playdoh playtime with baby girl and jack! they would make the wonkiest shape ever and aaron will be STRESSED out watching over baby girl, making sure she didnt purposely ate the clay(?)
omg STOP playdoh time definitely has supervision 😭 by either aaron, you, or even jack because he's very well versed when it comes to playdoh 🫶🏻 (but when that's the case, the adults are alwayssss close by keeping a watchful eye 👀)
the first time baby girl requests to play with playdoh (and is old enough to understand) aaron gives her a talk about the do’s and don’ts — first off and most importantly, don't eat it. only play with it on a table surface - it's usually on the kitchen table so that settles that. let an adult know you want to play with it, don't get grab it from the craft cabinet. remember to close the lids tight when you're finished so it doesn't get hard/dry out, and wash your hands when done. aaron's biggest pet peeve of playdoh - when it gets underneath their nailbeds 😭 ugh he hatesss trying to pry the residue out
but omg baby girl and jack have an absolute BLAST <333 it's one of their favorite things to do together 💓 they especially love playing with those playdoh sets - like ice cream, pizza oven, crazy hair. they always make the two of them, you and aaron, as well as all their aunts and uncles <3 baby girl always finds it hilarious when she's showing aaron his play-doh self 😭 once, she even gave him his signature frown LOL
but they love just creating, building random things and letting their imagination wander 🥰 and of course!!! aaron sits down to build with the two of them 🥹 hehe they get all >:( dad!!!! when he doesn't do something the way they want 😭 like did they tell him not to make this dog blue?? no, but he should know better 🙄 aaron's just, "okay🙄, okay i'll fix it 🥰" in response <333
you do things just right when you join though 🤭 so the kiddos tease and whine to him about that too - 'daddd build like mom does >:(' and of course it's only right to tease him right along with them 🥰
AND if baby girl does attempt to eat some 🫢 aaron just goes online to find an edible kind they can make at home LOL: the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and honey recipe for instance. again, he's gonna tell her not to eat it just to get in the habit, but if she does, at least it's eatable 💓 (but she does tend to eat it: she's loves pb, knows it's pb, and smells too good not to 😭)
#let's talk aaron <333333#aaron hotchner x reader#aaron hotchner#aaron hotchner imagine#criminal minds x reader#criminal minds#criminal minds imagine#girl!dad aaron

Aaron found out about it when he heard some crying in the bathroom at the middle of the night, noticing your lack of presence beside him, he got worried and walk towards the bathroom.
There, he saw you, in front of a mirror having a breakdown.
He approached you and asked whats wrong.
“love?” he said softly, as he hugged you from behind and caressed your hair, “My love, whats wrong?” he asked you worriedly.
“aaron..” you trailed off as you continue to sob. He hugged you tightly and kissed your forehead , pulling away as he make you look at him, “what is it, angel? You can tell me.” he urged you.
“I’m pregnant.” you blurt out.
With the lack of reply, you panicked.
“I missed my period recently and I feel kinda shit lately so me juliette and nazeera bought an pregnancy test earlier and I tested all 7 of them and they are all positive, I don’t—”
As you were rambling, he quickly hugged you tightly and lifting you up to the ground as he span you around. You laugh softly at this gesture as he peppered kisses to your face and hair while he whispered sweet nothings.
“Its okay. We will be okay. Don’t worry. We got this, yeah? I love you. Thank you. Thank you, I love you so much, My love.”
at the first stage he got nervous about being a dad and have some self doubt but later got over it as he saw you patying your belly despite it still not visible.

Kenji, nazeera and juliette made fun of him not until they were a victim of the dress up
At one point, kenji kidnapped baby dior and was later banned from seeing her for 2 months (barely a month in dior throwed a tantrum wanting to see her uncle kenny)
Baby dior played with your make up when she misses you! She wanna look like you because she misses you so much
Dior is an nature girlie! Aaron believes his angel is a reincarnated of persephone/artemis
Baby dior wears her pants backwards. She believes that “tails” should be at the back. You and Aaron gave up on the fight.
You guys had an motto that if its not hurting anyone or themselves, don't fight it. Let them.
One time you guys thought she was playing phone call but turns out she was in an hour real call with james.
Seashells hunting !!!!!
Everytime you guys went to a beach aaron always buy a big beautiful seashell then hides it in the sand for her to find!!! And her reactions always makes you and him melt!!
