Le primissime previsioni per la #MigliorRegia redatte solitamente dopo i principali festival apri-stagione sono state ridimensionate dal crescente consenso della critica americana verso il duo di registi e sceneggiatori formato da Daniel Kwan e Daniel Scheinert, conosciuti come #TheDaniels, al timone del pluripremiato Everything Everywhere All At Once. Dietro di loro ad inseguirli troviamo solo #StevenSpielberg (The Fabelmans) "rimesso in gioco" dai premi della stampa estera (Golden Globe), ma poi snobbato pesantemente ai BAFTA. In siffatto contesto il "terzo posto" dovrebbe essere occupato dal regista e drammaturgo britannico #MartinMcDonagh (Gli Spiriti dell'isola) che insieme ai The Daniels, ha ottenuto la nomination a tutti i premi chiave, a meno che non subisca lo stesso "affronto" del 2018 quando fu escluso a sorpresa dalla cinquina per la miglior regia per Tre manifesti a Ebbing, Missouri nonostante la sua presenza in tutti i principali premi precursori. Il quarto nome invece dovrebbe essere quello di #ToddField per TAR, il cui ritorno al cinema dopo 16 anni è stato inaugurato con il premio per la miglior regia assegnato dai critici di Los Angeles, per poi ottenere numerose candidature mancando solo quella ai Golden Globe. Per il 5° nome la gara si fa interessante. Se da un lato sembrano evaporate le speranze iniziali di Sarah Polley (Women Talking), si ritorna a parlare di #GinaPrinceBythewood (The Woman King) che diventerebbe così la prima donna afro-americana a conquistare la nomination per la Miglior regia. Di contro potrebbe confermarsi la teoria della quota internazionale con una sfida tra #EdwardBerger e #ParkChanwook, rispettivamente registi dei due film favoriti per il Miglior film internazionale, il plurinominato ai BAFTA All Quiet on the Western Front (Germania) e il favorito della critica americana La donna del mistero (Corea del Sud). Attenzione però a 2 registi campioni di incassi: #JosephKosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) la cui corsa è al momento trainata dalla candidatura ai DGA Awards laddove #JamesCameron (Avatar: The Way of Water) è rimasto fuori dai giochi allontanandosi dal traguardo nominations. #morningwarmupsketch 08/11/20 Today’s sketch is of Charlize Theron as Andy (Andromache of Scythia) from the Netflix Original Movie: The Old Guard, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. I had no idea that this was originally a comic written by Greg Rucka. I found it to be a fun action film, and Charlize Theron once again demonstrates her range from Oscar winner to kick-a$$ action star. The way the movie ends sets it’s self up nicely for a sequel. The Old Guard dropped on Netflix at Midnight July 9/10 2020 starring Charlize Theron. .
