What is a Ghavalek?
Tumblr media
Ghavaleks (Arnoss posing above as a reference) are an amphibious species based on Gharials, originating on the mostly-underwater plane of Ocaelum (you can find the planeswalker's guide here for more detail on that "mostly" or for other stuff in this write up, it's long enough already) They are cold-blooded and originated around the warm waters and caverns of the Core near submerged volcanic vents.
They have since allied with the World Family. It's a nomadic (for the most part) group of amphibious cultures traveling near the Surface of Ocaelum (staying close to the sea floor and in the upper caverns of the Core unless they have a purpose further above or below. They joined to have real power in the face of the growing power of the Arcane Spires and the refugees of the Old World some time after they fled to the waters of Ocaelum, with their giant bubble cities.
Ghavaleks are one of the rarer species of the World Family, most families (name of the individual caravans) don't have any Ghavaleks among their numbers, and none have more than a handful, even in the larger groups. Their numbers have been decreasing slowly; they're a rather long-lived species and don't reproduce that much, and the separation into the Family led to this.
They're rare enough that it's common for a Ghavalek to not know much about their own species. Common knowledge is that they live for a long time and are cold-blooded, with some legends that they keep growing bigger with age and may never die of age as long as they can keep safe and fed. Due to their inability to naturally regulate their temperature and warmer waters of origin, they usually live with a magical item to keep them warm and not too warm on them, traditionally a pendant or medallion.
Ghavaleks are mature after a few decades, though they keep growing at a slower rate for a long time after that. In the Family's cultures, they're often depicted as gentle giants and fierce protectors, a symbol of safety. Capable of fighting fiercely both in and out of the water, they make for quite the warriors. Outside the Family, their appearance and size tends to garner different reactions, ones of fear rather than safety.

Arnoss
Name: Arnoss Beldrun
Pronouns: He/Him
Species: Ghavalek (Gharial-inspired Amphibians)
Age: 32
Plane of Origin: Ocaleum (sub-oceanic fan plane)
First Planeswalk: Icalia’s Haven (fan plane)
Colors: White, Red, Green
Appearance and Art:
Tumblr media
(art by @land-ofthebooty)
For scale, Arnoss is currently 9'5" when standing on his feet.
Backstory: His species is a rare one among an ensemble of them traveling together as part of nomad underwater caravans. He only met a handful of others of his species growing up, and never knew his biological parents, his egg being sold as is customary. He grew up in the love of his caravan, and trained to defend it of anything that would threaten it physically. As a trained ghavalek warrior, he’s already strong and dangerous to begin with, capable of handling terrible weapons at “normal” speeds underwater, and even faster on land despite his size. His back scales are thick enough to resist most non-piercing weapons, particularly underwater. On top of his physiology, he’s also enchanted to be stronger, faster and somewhat protected, and that enchantments strengthens with people around him needing help (see details below in Magic section).
His sparking… Wasn’t a joyous one. For a reason or another (he suspects it’s because of one of the caravan’s finds), Merfolks decided their caravan shouldn’t reach their next destination, and assaulted the people, killing them before they realized what happened to them, and before they could call for Arnoss’s help, not at first at least. They kept him for last to play with him once he awoke, and showed him the dead bodies of his caravan. He sparked as a result, finding refuge in Icalia’s Haven and feeling responsible for the death of his family. He didn’t stay long, and traveled the planes a little, until he found somewhere else where he wasn’t attacked on sight. He sometimes try to find jobs as bodyguard, but he doesn’t value himself too much after what happened to his caravan and the people he was supposed to protect.
Magic, gear and/or abilities: He carries around a large jagged sword (well, less large for him). Other noticeable elements include his pendant he keeps around his neck, enchanted to regulate his body temperature, since he’s cold-blooded.
Regarding his skills, he’s a dangerous warrior, especially underwater but he can fight on land as well. He’s scarily fast for his size (he’s used to fight underwater). He can breathe underwater in most normal conditions, prefers saltwater but can handle fresh water just fine.
His magic is very simple, he knows how to do a few cantrips but nothing impressive, his main magic is rooted in enchantments that were applied to him. They make him slightly faster, stronger and protect him more than he’d otherwise be, but it isn’t the core of it. He can feel around him people needing help, and his help in specific, and that needs strengthens his enchantments, even more so when the people needing help wants his in specific. In return, these enchantments shunt all magic he could have the potential to gather, and his only way to perform the simple spells he knows or to planeswalk is to use the magic that fuels the enchantment, making him weaker and more vulnerable when he does use magic, and significantly so after a planeswalk.

Let's see, for the main cast...
Ivegard tends to stubbornly throw everything at any task that's out of her capabilities once she set her mind to it, and it has gotten her hurt multiple times.
Dolores is confident, sometimes a bit too much for her own good. Listening to her, she's the best at her job across the entire Multiverse and she always has everything under control. The times when that illusion is shattered are generally not pretty.
Anedia doesn't fully trust anyone but herself. Everyone has their own agenda and she expects they'll clash with hers. The only one that comes close is her sister, but even then there's a lot she can't or won't tell her. That means she's unlikely to ask for help when she needs it, and has to face most hurdles of life alone.
Farell shies away of anything he doesn't know how to handle, and will put those off as long as he can, no matter how much they hurt him. Any problem he can't solve through wit or blade are tomorrow Farell's problems.
Nyrhen's fatal flaw is of course his unflinching, absolute arrogance and its many consequences. He is at best disconnected from reality, but it also shields him from any suffering that'd come for it, since he knows what he is and does is by definition right. If he ever believed any imperfection in himself or his worldview, it might start a cascade that could bring the whole thing down.
Lhur is afraid of his father, and that fear has tainted a lot. He's afraid of becoming like his father, a cynical, tyrannical man. He's afraid of being trapped and following what his father made him for and planned his life as, as the beloved, unquestioned liberator and legitimized king. At the same time, a corner of his mind wonders if he's seeking his father's approval in every action. The fear, spite, respect and past here can make Lhur internally indecisive or regretting every decision, a paralyzing force.
Vaalin doesn't have much of a "fatal flaw", but he does live in a world where he has time for everything. Where he can think about any answer and find any solution. Sometimes he does do that a bit too much and overthinks things to the point of confusion, in himself or others.
Dancing-Hands is still trying to find his place in the Multiverse, and he's failed a few times already. His hubris led to his sparking, and his veering the opposite way led to him being used by an Ojutai dragon. His knowledge was hard-earned, hard-lost, and now its hesitantly he's approaching it again. He stayed away from any family and now helps take care of another. Thankfully, he's still young for a Kitsune and has plenty of time to find who he is gonna be.
Arnoss thinks of himself as an idiot, a failure, and a little in the back of his mind, as a monster. Even if he's accepted their death, he hasn't pardoned himself for "failing" to protect his family. Until recently, he couldn't read, and still has a very hard time doing so, and he takes that as a proof of him being dumb. He doesn't even know all that much about Ghavaleks and how they work, and he is one. People in Spheres and on other planes are often scared of him, enough that he's a little scared of himself. He's working on himself slowly, but it's a lot.
Fan Character Friday
So I’ve seen some other fandoms have OC days where there is a fun prompt to talk about/develop your OCs every week, and I thought HEY the mtg community has a lot of people with a lot of OCs, maybe we can do it too!
Ok so you know the drill, I’ll give a prompt and you can respond to it by answering directly, doing a doodle, making a custom card, or a little flash fic.
Happy character developing!
What is your character’s biggest fatal flaw?

Happy Mother’s Day, what was Dancing-Hands, Arnoss, Nyrhen, Farell and Vaalin mothers like?
Mother's day isn't for another few weeks.
-Dancing-Hands's mother was, in her younger years, an imperial guard as they were investigating the Kami rifts during the Era of Enlightenment with the Jukai's help. After the creation of the Merge gates, she married a kitsune of the Jukai she had worked with, who later became Dancing-Hands' father. She was the one to initially introduce Dancing-Hands to origami, but their relationship didn't fare too well along the years. His parents had very little authority on Dancing-Hands come his forties, and she regrets what happened to him. They've met again since and she knows he's alive, but it's been tough to rebuild things.
-Arnoss didn't have a singular "mother", that's not how the Family's typically raises children, he was under the care of all the adult Beldruns. As far as biological parents, he's never met his mother (at least he doesn't think so), his egg was bought from another family that couldn't support any more Ghavaleks. This is also not uncommon in the Family between caravans that trust each other.
-Nyrhen's mother was incredibly proud of her boy, even if he didn't do anything particularly glamorous or important. He was always Perfect to her eyes. Also she was a Lorwyn elf, so, y'know, the baggage that comes with that. Weapon-carver, some of which were deemed worthy of being used by Perfects.
-Farell's mom is Lady Leana Javori, born Bassola. She's cunning, positive, and confident. She's well-versed in politics and etiquette. She uses them as she needs to, but isn't fond of what comes with it, so she sometimes ignores convention when she thinks they're wrong.
Her birth name is an old, powerful and respected one on Fiora, and she very much married under her station when she did a newly ennobled merchant and had to give up her name for his when she did. She further mudded her name by carrying to term a bastard child from a shapeshifter who tricked her, and giving him her birth name. Despite the events of that night, she loves Farell just as much as she does her human children. She encouraged Farell into finding his own way, to be proud and keep his head high. The aristocracy may see him as lesser, but it's their loss if they underestimate her eldest son.
-Vaalin's mother was killed during the current phyrexian invasion, so he's still processing that, especially considering he had to keep working after learning of her death, alone in his head for long periods of time. She was a Vodalian merfolk from the Volshe caste, a mathematician, who had briefly studied at Tolaria (of the Depths). She joined a diplomatic mission to the surface world and met Vaalin's father, a human, there. She laid Vaalin's egg not too long after coming back from that year-long expedition. Knowing the xenophobic caste system underlying Vodalian society would be very harsh on a half-human, she sought refuge for her and her child in Tolaria's waters, where minds were more progressive.
There, she raised her child by herself within the Academy's reach, trying her best to shield him from the disdain and hatred that inevitably filtered through even in the school. Most students at Tolaria of the Depths have vodalian origins and culture after all, be it recent or older. She had her concerns when he specialized in temporal studies and might have tried to push him towards more practical studies. His achievements of the past few years on Dominaria and other worlds had placated her doubts though.

Starting the year, I think I’ll give new cards and some associated summaries for the few of my fanwalkers that I got art for, the next in alphabetical order is Arnoss! His art was commissioned a bit ago to @land-ofthebooty.
Arnoss Beldrun is Naya-aligned and a Ghavalek. A gharial-inspired species from his plane of origin, albeit a relatively rare one. He's part of the Family, a nomadic group of allied amphibian species travelling air and mostly water in the underwater plane of Ocaelum.
He was bought as an egg, and raised as a protector for his caravan. His innate magic wasn't that strong to begin with, but he was enchanted to harness it by his family's elders. As such, he's a little stronger and tougher than he looks, but it becomes stronger as more people want and need his help around him, bolstering strength, speed and resistance to both regular and magical attacks.
However, it was of no help when the Beldruns (his caravan) was ambushed while he was sleeping by a group of merfolks. They captured him before he could intervene, intending to use him as a slave, and made him watch them kill his family. He probably would have remained in their hold if his spark hadn't ignited. Since then, Arnoss mourns his family and protects others in need of it, whether they hire him as a bodyguard or not. His "services" is mostly ensuring he's around to help. He's very gentle generally but can be very violent when fighting against something that threatens other. He's very big, think crocodile (I think about 9'6" standing on his hind legs) and much faster than his bulk would indicate when fighting in the air as he's used to fight underwater.
He has thwarted the plans of an ambitious Cabal Lieutenant on Dominaria a couple times and now resides when he wants a falling point somewhere on Ixalan, on one of the many remote islands, one partially submerged. He's cold-blooded, and his kind is usually found in volcanic waters, but the pendant depicted in the art above is a piece of magical wood enchanted to regulate his body temperature and keep his blood at a functioning temperature outside of extreme circumstances. He still enjoys sunbaths a lot. He recently started learning how to read.

Arnoss 3, 6, 13, 15, 18, 20, 29
3. Ask them to describe their love interest.
He doesn't currently have one. Not in the present at least.
6. Who will they take advice from, no matter what it is? Who won’t they take advice from, no matter what it is.
He'll take advice from quite a few people. Advice will be strongly considered from his sister Oprena, from the Elders of his extended Family, from his little cousin Pipa, from Dr. Bilkardy,... Most people he's close to, including his... Islandmate ? Ganara. Also, and probably the most improbable to happen, but if one of the nature spirits he's devoted to were to advise him directly, he probably wouldn't turn that away.
As far as not taking advice, he won't listen to anything Lady Seric has to say, of course. He's very reluctant to listen to anything a Vhigg'ithu (the Merfolks of his home plane) has to say. He generally ignores his "friend" Shaw because he thinks Shaw has a very different view of the world than he does.
13. Name one thing their parents taught them.
Another one without biological parents... But his Elders taught him, with a lot of care, how to craft a heat pendant out of lifewood should his own be lost or damaged, and to always keep a spare piece of lifewood with him for that purpose. He, like other Ghavaleks, is cold-blooded, and outside of the volcanic waters their native villages are built around, he needs one of those to function properly for more than a few hours and avoid losing all of his body heat.
15. What would they consider a waste of time– other than school or work?
Administrative formalities. It doesn't help that until very recently, he didn't know how to read or write and that he's still currently learning how all of that works. He comes from a way of living without any of that, and it seems unnecessarily tedious, boring and pointless.
18. Kissing: tongue or no tongue?
No tongue. Biologically, his tongue doesn't leave his jaws and most people he's with don't reach very far there even when they try to find a way to kiss him.
20. What do they like that nobody else does?
Not everyone, but there's very few people in the Multiverse that like sunbathing quite as much as he does. Even other Ghavaleks don't get the full experience, since Ocaelum has no sun. The closest they get is Lifetrees, and as Arnoss noticed, it's not exactly the same.
29. What recurring dreams do they have?
Arnoss doesn't remember many of his dreams, but he does sometimes dream of the monster everyone sees him as, and the monster he thinks he'll become.

You might have seen him already, and @land-ofthebooty‘s great art of him, my most recent fanwalker, Arnoss Beldrun!
First of all, you might not recognize the species, he’s a Ghavalek, a gharial-inspired, fully amphibious species from @land-ofthebooty‘s fan-plane, Ocaleum. For a quick rundown, the plane is majoritarily sub-oceanic, with some small pockets of air. Arnoss’s bio and characteristics under the cut.
Name: Arnoss Beldrun
Gender/pronouns: he/him Colors : Red, Green, White
Age : 32
Origin plane, First planeswalk: Ocaelum (fan-plane), yet undetermined
Race : Ghavalek (Gharial-looking humanoids, see appearance)
Magic, skills, gear : He carries around a large sword (well, less large for him), slightly curved and jagged. Other noticeable elements include his pendant he keeps around his neck, enchanted to regulate his body temperature, since he's cold-blooded.
Regarding his skills, he's a dangerous warrior, especially underwater but he can fight on land as well. He's scarily fast for his size (he's used to fight underwater). He can breathe underwater in most normal conditions, prefers saltwater but can handle fresh water just fine.
His magic is very simple, he knows a few cantrips with magic but nothing fancy, his main magic is something that's tied to him. When someone needs him or wants his help near him, he can feel it and he gets stronger, faster and his scales protect him more the more people do and the more they need him. If they just need help but don't want him in particular to provide it, he still gets buffed but in very small amounts, unless he's the "threat" people want help against.
Appearance: He's a 9 foot 4 (when standing in his legs, longer when swimming) crocodile man, with gharial features. See art for the rest.
Short Bio: He was a lone Ghavalek escorting a caravan. He has some interesting characteristics, that are part his magic, part something he learned, part an enchantment made to him by hex-weavers at the head of the caravan. As a 9'4" tall (standing) Ghavalek trained warrior, he's already strong and dangerous to begin with, capable of handling terrible weapons at "normal" speeds underwater, and even faster on land, despite his size. His scales are thick enough to resist most non-piercing weapons, particularly underwater, as long as he protects his front scales. He can use his magic for base uses, but is in no way a wizard. What his magic does, however, is that whenever someone close-ish to him wants/hopes he can help and wants his help, he can feel it and it strengthens, fastens, protects and otherwise improves him as long as he's needed. The effect compounds with the number of people in that situation, meaning that when the caravan was attacked as he defended it, he could easily, alone, defeat foes way more dangerous than he normally was, be it an entire school of flesh-eating fishes or a to move the course of a leviathan (well, he needed some big support from the hex-weavers on this one, both buffing his magic and charming the leviathan).
His sparking... Wasn't a joyous one. For a reason or another (he suspects it’s because of one of the caravan’s finds), Merfolks decided their caravan shouldn't reach their next destination, and assaulted the people, killing them before they realized what happened to them, and before they could call for Arnoss's help, not at first at least. Sometime during the assault, he sparked. After that, he landed on one of those weird planes with an unending void above it, and nearly no water whatsoever. He wasn't greeted very well, and traveled the planes a little, until he found somewhere where he wasn't attacked on sight. He sometimes try to find jobs as bodyguard, but he doesn't value himself too much after what happened to his caravan and the people he was supposed to protect. Also, some people seem to have a problem trusting him, I don't know why. Maybe it's the 100+ teeth. He still has his heating charm, so he can basically go wherever, but he does need to cool down sometimes. And he enjoys sunbathing, even if he technically wouldn't need it. It just feels good.

Note
I want to hear more about your fan-planes! Tell me about the creatures that can be found there, what are the staple creatures like? Most importantly what are the dragons like!
Let’s see, I’ll make non-comprehensive lists because that’s a lot of different species.
Winrovah: Humans, goblins, elves, leonins, nagas, gnomes, djinns, wurms, drakes, serpents, elementals, demon(s), angels, hydras, sphinges, dragons, aetherborn versions of most of those, and maybe a few more species that are extinct or even closer to extinction than the rest, since the end of the world isn’t being kind on ecological preservation.
Dragons on Winrovah were formerly a powerful force, and loosely organized too. Like most iconics, what happened to the plane wasn’t kind of them, and most were too proud to ask for any help. There aren’t really many large enough hunting grounds to sustain dragons anymore on the plane, so even the ones that didn’t die from the destruction or in fights mostly died from hunger, or raided settlements which further worsened conditions for people living there and only delayed the inevitable for the dragons. Like most iconics, there’s only a handful of Dragons left on the plane, exact numbers are incertain.
Moloni: Humans, elves, nagas, viashinos, dwarves, griffins, Guardians (Angel, Sphinges, Demons, Dragons and Elementals), probably others.
Dragons on Moloni are Guardians, born from, controlling and defending a Source of magic. Dragons tends to see their Source and magic as their treasure. While some do hoard it for themselves, most have understood that sharing it doesn’t remove it from their possessions, allows others to gaze upon their treasure, and can be negotiated for other kinds of things they might value... But not be able to obtain without leaving their source. Wild dragons can protect a Source fiercely, making sure nobody else lives in its surrounding, but most civilized ones have a more mercantile state of mind.
The Federation of Cyr’s capital, Ganara, has five Guardians, one for each color, leading it. The dragon is called Protacus, he’s in charge of Cyr’s diplomacy, and can temporarily possess his emissaries as long as they’re within range of a Source, allowing him to be one of the very few Guardian that can travel beyond their own source’s influence.
Geonne: Mostly undevelopped, but Geonne is mostly human... Kind of. Geonne’s magic allows humans to fuse with another creature in some situations (or rituals), which means the plane contains a lot of subspecies based on most types of animals and creatures.
Dragons on Geonne are more legends of the past than reality. If they exist still, they’re hiding well.
Ferely (not entirely mine): Ferely has humans, elves, minotaurs, azras, angels, (a handful of very powerful) demons, probably dragons but haven’t developed them yet... Probably more. Sapient species are way more intermixed on Ferely than on most planes, though, the demon blood that spawned the azras in the first place allows for reproduction between all sorts of species that would normally be incompatible, so belonging to a species is more a matter of choice than anything there.
Ocaelum (not entirely mine, but my version might be separate at this point): Humans, merfolks, elves, coralfolks, giant sentient Lifetrees, dwarves, dragons, and then the amphibious Family made up of many species, but the main two are Lutrives (otterfolks) and Axoltians (Axolotl-based species) with rarer ones like Ghavaleks like Arnoss. Add to that a thriving marine ecology ranging from plankton to giant sea monsters of all sorts.
Dragons on Ocaelum come in two kinds (well, three, but one is extinct and forgotten). The more bestial kind can be found swimming in the water, majestic but dangerous serpent-like beings. Other than those, there’s the Primordial dragons, born of the earth and residing within the air-filled tunnels and caves there, some legends claim they were the ones to dig them to emerge of the ground like one would from an egg. The primordial dragons are ancient beings of great power and wisdom, connected directly to the Sun at the center of the world, and generally benevolent. They created the Dwarves and see them as their children, and know more about the history of the world than most.

Niuttuc’s Fanwalker List
Art and short bios and description of my fanwalkers, since it was a little weird to refer to an ask every time. Occasionally updated (last update: November 2024.) Since my roster has expanded significantly since this post was first made, I’ll only put my “core” characters into a first “short” list, and the rest below the cut. Note that I do still occasionally develop and do appreciate questions beyond the core characters, I just decided to separate things for ease of read.
Feel free to inquire if you’re curious about any of them or any specific bit of the text here! There is much, much more than the little written here about each of them. Though do provide enough context for me to understand what you’re asking about.
None of the art featured here was made by me, though it was all commissioned from various artists. I’ll tag them when I know their current tumblr whereabouts, though many have moved on from it over the years, or changed their handles enough times I don’t know them anymore.
1) Anedia Kosel (UB)
Tumblr media
She/her, Human, overt (former?) dimir reporter and covert (former?) dimir agent. Sleep mage. From Ravnica. After a successful column writing about other worlds and planeswalkers, and a failed attempt at a paper she ran herself, now has moved to Thunder Junction to try again, and trade interplanar information with interested parties.
2) Ivegard ( R )
Tumblr media
She/Her, Flamekin empath from Lorwyn. She travels mostly for traveling’s sake, but takes on courier work across planes to find new places to go and meet new people. Omenpaths have brought both more competition and more parties interested in her services.
3) Nyrhen (G)
(Nyrhen doesn’t deserve art, plus he’d be annoying if not murderous to anyone he would deem representing him in less than perfect fashion)
He/Him, Elf from Lorwyn. Potential/true self magic. Seeks people who know who they are. Current home set up in the Wilds of Eldraine, but he doesn’t spend too much time there. He’s a terrible person who occasionally does good things for bad or weird reasons, but most often an unpredictable danger for others.
4) Vaalin (WUR)
Tumblr media
(art by @reubenyeoart )
He/him, half-merfolk half-human, Tolarian scholar from Dominaria. Magic allowing manipulation of the perception of time, and for him to slip between moments. Generally a pacifist, he’s still not alright with the little fighting he found himself forced into during the recent phyrexian invasion, even though he mostly stuck to handling logistics for the new coalition.
5) Dancing-Hands (WU)
Tumblr media
He/Him, Kitsune with origami-based animating magic and innate short range telekinesis on non-living objects. From Kamigawa. Former follower of an Ojutai dragon. Currently mostly based on Amonkhet in a relationship with a pair of Khenra twins, he’s also been exploring working with a branch of the Order of Heliud.
6) Dolores (BR)
(She has some gifted arts, but nothing “official” yet. Though that might change sooner than later)
She/Her, demon with pain-based magic. Resides and works on New Capenna as torturer, mainly for the Maestros. From the fan-plane of Ferely. She was born an Azra and ascended to demonhood in a process she doesn’t fully understand. Recently has been seen on Thunder Junction and a few other planes seeking some specific people for unknown reasons.
7) Arnoss (RGW)
Tumblr media
He/Him, Ghavalek (Gharial-based person) with enhanced strength and protection based on others’ need for his help. From the fan-plane of Ocaelum. Fully amphibious. He’s recently spent more time on his home plane and was adopted into his culture’s wide pantheon, the Spirit Kindred. He’s big, over 3m (10′) tall at time of writing, but the gentlest of giant with most people, despite or maybe because of his appearance. Before his return home, he’s worked as a bodyguard to help people and his own purse before.
8) Lhur (B)
(No art for Lhur yet. Maybe someday!)
He/Him, Giant from Fiora. His magic is rooted in manifesting what people want or desire. Led a revolt against his own father’s rule of a small kingdom far away from Paliano. After his victory, he ruled for a few years and established a better system for his country and his people. And recently lost the first election with that new system.
9) Farell Bassola (U)
(No art for Farell yet, unless there is. It’s hard to tell with shapeshifters. Which would make a depiction pretty pointless.)
Most often uses He/They. Shapeshifting duelist from Fiora, copying their opponents’ appearance and skills. Doesn’t try nor like actually trying to impersonate others. Inspired by a character from tragedy, Farell has suffered his share of cruel twists of fate and impossible love.
10) Arega (GU)
Tumblr media
(art by @poisonhemlocke)
They/Them, Lorwyn Changeling modified with old Simic biomancy. They’re now encased in a hybrid body designed for the Guardian project, and slowly adapt to conditions they face. On the run from the actual Simic guild, though the Guild is not as interested in chasing Arega as they think.
11) Zarunpel (G(BW))
(No official art for Zarunpel yet, but she might be next on the list)
She/Her, Human Knight of Garenbrig, from Eldraine. Rapunzel-inspired, she has long, heavy and indestructible hair she uses as both weapon and protection. She’s stronger than she looks and has access to some protection magic. She doesn’t like the story a fae has tried to force her into since the day of her birth, and tries to be very different than what her looks of a dainty princess would have others expect. Also her shadow either is or contains a magical giant panther of Urborg she uses as a mount, bonded to her by the Soul of Windgrace after a service rendered.
12) Sezashi (UG)
Tumblr media
(art by @reubenyeoart )
He/Him, Orochi from Kamigawa. His kami-granted magic allows him to manipulate life and objects by doubling or halving them or some of their characteristics. Trying to figure out what kind of world Kamigawa might one day become from the Merge and help steer it towards the better outcomes of it.
13) Jaspar Naelir (BG)
(No art for Jaspar yet)
He/Him, Shadow Elf from Skemfar (Kaldheim). His magic deals with evoking past life in previously living objects, somewhere between druidism and necromancy. It is empowered by a fang of Koma’s (coil) he carries made up to look like a sword. He looks for secrets of the Einir and how they came to be in “far realms”, other planes that the Skoti may not have purged like they did his own culture.

The rest of the cast under the cut, this post is already plenty long enough, you scrolled down plenty already.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Other fanwalkers (or former fanwalkers) that are currently somewhat “active” around the multiverse:
1) Kinahel Varelli (RW(U)): Kinahel is a phoenix modified into an humanoid shape in the egg, and raised to wield the Worldslayer to kill an imprisoned Eldrazi (a big one, but not a titan) on Zendikar. It worked too well and destroyed the island, and for a couple centuries since, they’ve traveled with and protect the weapon, trying to guard worlds from it from being used. Don’t mention that one time on Mirrodin. They’re able to create fire on contact (and on contact with that fire) and absorb it, fashioning weapons out of the flames, and their fire can have healing properties. If they use too much magic, they can combust and die (and be reborn). As a phoenix, they’ll resurrect from almost any death into a different shape, an aven based on a different bird. Last seen on Thunder Junction trying to help before moving on to another world.
2) The Cursetamer (BUG): Ange Casselant of real name, the Cursetamer is a very powerful Lich that exploited a magical item’s properties to turn herself into a lich much harder to kill than average, and maintaining her spark. Currently resides on Innistrad with her wife, Annalise, after having finally found a way to bring her back to life in a mostly proper way. She’s handling a small town of refugees/voluntary test subjects in a massive underground complex on Innistrad, and specialized in the study and manipulation of souls for decades. Now that her wife is back with her, she shifted her attention to self-sustaining spell resonances, trying to figure out what causes them and how to control them. One of her arms is gloved and hosts her soul, incapable of interacting with matter but able to grab onto more ethereal things. Her magic includes soul and life manipulation, but also many effects she can replicate of relics she collected and studied. Formerly a planeswalker, she lost her spark during the Rupture, but that hasn’t stopped her or her research.
3) Ranek Stormplate (RW): An old Khaldeimr Dwarf, Ranek’s last name is his armor, an impressive construct of mechanical artifice and runechanting he built over a decade with the help of his partner, an engineer of renown. They later sacrificed themselves to help save the City of Eight Doors, and Ranek is convinced they were accepted into Starnheim. Since, Ranek has tried to perfect his skills in all areas except for mechanical artifice, hopefully enough to inspire Sagas that’d reach his partner in Starnheim. His Stormplate is a wonder, shifting plate summoning more parts of itself stored in aether, absorbing dangers and redirecting them. When fully deployed, it is closer to a small Kamigawan mech than a plate of armor. A cool uncle to many a dwarf and non-dwarf. While learning many crafts and skills across a couple centuries, he has created many incredible and magical items over the years. After losing his spark recently, he retired to Kaldheim where he still creates to occupy his time.
4) Icalia (W): An aven from Dominaria, on a wandering shard of a plane, she guided a society and opened a neutral ground for planar travelers in it, where people can now they’re safe to rest and negotiate. She deals in favors, and her powers are mostly silence-based, both magical and mundane silence. She sparked during the phyrexian invasion and in a grey area of lore that she affected quite a lot. Her Haven’s personnel is mostly constituted of her descendants on various degrees, she was married a few centuries ago but her husband passed away. She’s trying to slowly let the Haven be by itself, but it hasn’t been easy. Linked like a Source Guardian to Moloni after her sparking. Formerly a planeswalker, she lost her spark during the rupture but retained her position.
5) Szyra (BGU): A Nantuko that was born in an alternate timeline that was connected to Dominaria during the Rift Era. She was transported as she sparked into our Multiverse, and lives here now. Her life and dementia magic was mutated by her passage through the Rifts, and she now can only summon or transform things into their alternate versions from one specific alternate reality, the mix of Krosan druidic traditions and dementia casting she was taught having been altered by the rifts as well. She very much enjoys this reality where phyrexians were dealt with. They were dealt with, right? The latest Dominarian developments have left her VERY annoyed. And sparkless.
6) Odomi (Colorless+): Odomi was once a very weak Faerie, even as an oldwalker, barely as powerful magically than average mages. He traded his magic away (but not his spark) in exchange for being tied to Eldraine’s very Wild magic. He’s now able to do anything that is widely told and believed he can do, within limits, and he can’t lie. He became powerful enough that a group banded against him and put him to sleep for a few thousand years. Now awake once more, he’s been regaining some of his old powers, but trying to mostly spread his stories among other planeswalkers, to have them affect him on various planes. He’s mischievous, dangerous and sometimes helpful, he just doesn’t tend to think things through, or how they might affect other people.
7) Exemplar Iren Balard (WUB): Iren is a middle-aged human from @socialpoison‘s fan-plane of Vestria. She’s a professionally trained therapist, enough to earn her the title of Exemplar, an equivalent to a Doctor on the plane. She’s also a mind mage, but as an exemplar, had psychic surgery to prevent her from using it except to help, and she only uses it to supplement a more natural and lasting process. Also she’s not related to that other Ballard, as far as she knows.
8) Jibea (WUB): Born on the doomed world of Winrovah after its demise already started, Jibea never knew their plane as it once was in their lifetime. Nevertheless, they rejected the hopelessness and started traveling across Winrovah, preserving sights and stories in sketches and writing with them. They found themselves somewhat naturally protected from the dueling scourges of Winrovah, and got embarked because of that into discovering the sources of those, and removing them from Winrovah. They weren’t unscathed though, half of their face and part of their back got replaced by a shell of Aether containing a core of Void, and their spark ignited. Seeing other worlds intact, they now strive to bring back the sights and hope of those to their home. They have access to some minor gravity-altering magic, though more potent in effect outside their mana-starved home.
9) Eternity* (): Eternity isn’t much of a name, and the entity known as such may decide on another later on. It only came to be recently. Sixty years ago, two oldwalkers that were roaming the Blind Eternities when the Mending hit them, which changed them up until they crashed on the plane of Winrovah, losing memories for one and ability to keep coherent thought for the other. Recently, they were reunited and fused into a much more stable entity of the Blind Eternities, who named itself after those. It left Winrovah, unable to fix all the damage caused but not wanting to make it worse by their continued presence, and spends most of its time in the Eternities, occasionally touching down on planes to try to understand what they now are, and what they can do.
10) Nksdv/Alamir (Colorless/U): Nksdv was a Licid planeswalker, sentient and looking for a symbiotic relationship with their host. They bonded with Alamir, the metathran chief of security of Icalia’s Haven, and granted to him abilities of their previous hosts. Nksdv could planeswalk with their host, but the process was generally fatal to said host. Alamir was able to survive such a forced planeswalk but it damaged both his body and mind in ways that took time to recover, from anywhere between an hour (generally for trips from the Haven since they can prepare stuff to soften the blow) to a week or more. After a long reconnaissance mission on New Phyrexia that ended when the plane seemingly collapsed, one too many such planeswalks finally brough Nksdv and Alamir too close biologically to ever separate, and Nksdv let themselves die or fuse with Alamir. Either because of the Rupture or because of this death, Alamir is no longer able to planeswalk, with or without dire consequences.
11) Pallune (URG): Pallune is from Talejiah, a fan-location in Ketria on Ikoria. She’s no bonder, but she is fascinated by the various clades of monsters. She compleated a quest for Illuna and was granted a wish to understand them, forming in her as a way to communicate with them, and match some of their characteristics, transforming parts of her body to match creatures belonging to the clades when she’s near them. Pallune was born deaf, and that magic also allows her to change her ears to be able to hear when near fitting animals, but hearing overwhelms her quickly, so she only does it when she really needs to. Like many others, she lost her spark after March of the Machine.
12) Vedili (WUBG): A former Herald of Kumena’s band, Vedili got disillusioned with the Heralds’ mission and Kumena’s vision both, thinking neither led to a better world, just more tensions. They met with Elenda as she was leaving the Golden City, and after a brief talk, escorted her to the coast. On the way, they discussed and Vedili grew convinced of her ways. They asked her to turn them before she sailed away. Vedili’s magic is over mists, fogs and smokes, and their vampirism extended that power to themselves and blood. They strive to see peace and harmony on their home plane and others, even if personal costs need to be paid for it by themselves or others.
13) Madaya Soari (U): Madaya was a young performing magician on Kaladesh (as in, prestidigitation, sometimes assisted by artifice, not actual spells.) The lockdowns and fighting during the Aether Revolt followed by the liberation, reveal and popularisation of mages and wizards made her without clients of work for a long time. It led to her despising spellcasting, seeing it as just a flashy, skillless trend. While trying to show exactly what she thought of it, she discovered some illusion magic to herself, and the shock of that was enough to ignite her spark. She still dislikes spells and tries to avoid using magic, relying mostly on her deft hands, misdirection and fast mind, though maybe someday she’ll learn to embrace that part of her.
14) Maladrigol (GWB): A very patient and cryptic treefolk, Maladrigol acts with unknown motives. They usually find a place near a cross of leylines, and get some people to establish a community there, then guide and manipulate it from afar for decades and centuries, with the aim of maximizing that area’s mana potential and linking it to themselves. Some call them the Mana Farmer, others only see them as the old tree outside of town. What this mana is used for is a mystery, as is the extent of Maladrigol’s abilities.
15) Silena (UBR): She’s an ambitious human woman from Kylem. Her mentor tried to hijack her body and ignited her spark, and Silena has done some questionable things to retain control of herself. She’s capable of manipulating the acidity of fluids and is a skilled fighter born in the streets of Cloudspire who wants to someday see a statue of herself alongside the other champions of Valor’s Reach. So far, that hasn’t worked out for her, and some of what she’s done might be coming back to bite her.
16) Kolvis (WB): Kolvis is an ancient angel from Vithia, the land that would later be known as Grixis. To survive the sundering of Alara, she accepted the help of the people she protected, giving a small part of her life to sustain her without access to white mana, but this ability of her was exploited by Sedris in his betrayal to steal the life of many citizens of his own country. The combined life energy that didn’t go to the King stayed with Kolvis, and in those oldwalker days, became akin to a spark in her. Since, twisted by the current state of Grixis she still reflects, and relying on the lifeforce of those people she was used to harvest, she’s been roaming the multiverse, joining causes but never for very long. She just can’t find herself to trust anymore, not again.
17) Regellen ( R ): A very old genderfluid dragon usually found on Innistrad. Might not have been born as a dragon, and might or might not be the origin of  the rest of Innistrad’s dragons. They sparked millenia ago when, by accident or intention, their mind got connected to the Ur-Dragon’s for all of one second. In that one second, they lived longer as every dragon in the multiverse than in their entire life to this point, and it changed them forever. Their magic is based on sharing or amplifying others’ own magical skills, sometimes to a great extent. By themselves, they’re also able to do create and manipulate light on top of their natural draconic abilities. In a relationship with Quzawe, and delighted to see them again after more than a millenia of separation. They spent the past millenia mostly asleep in their lair, but now can be seen exploring the changed multiverse with Quzawe.
18) Quzawe (URG): An old Ixalan Coatl planeswalker. They can control winds and are rarely if ever touching the ground. In a relationship with Regellen, and they’re discovering each other anew now that Quzawe’s forced stay on Ixalan ended with the removal of the Immortal Sun. They consume intemperies for sustenance and can command those on a large scale, and they’re enjoying the tastes and skies of many worlds once more.
19) Akavoo (GR): A Kavu planeswalker from Dominaria that eats minerals and gains temporary abilities and features depending of which he eats. Sometimes sentient, sometimes able to talk, depending on what he ate recently. Mutated into what he is today from eating Ikorian crystals given to him by a planeswalker for reasons of their own.
20) Sky-Eyes (WURG): A young Pheres-Band centaur and Tromper, Sky-Eyes’s orbits always contain a view of the sky above, changing with weather and time of day. It was only esthetic for his childhood and early teens, and he became an effective warrior and raider... Until his oracle gift revealed itself, and he was warned against a raid by the voice of a god. His band dismissed his warning, but he was convinced enough to try to stop them. That only got him trampled over by his own band before seeing them be torn apart at the hand of a god’s oracles. He sparked to Kamigawa, where his open eyes could perceive the spirit realm as well as the mortal one, overwhelming him. They healed him and sent him on his way since.
21) Elije (WU): Human planeswalker of unknown age or origin. Not a serious character, and solidly silver-bordered. He fancies himself as enforcer of the Rules of Magic, making sure spells are cast and artifacts are operated under those rules, essentially making other people follow the rules of the actual card game even when they don’t make narrative sense. Can lead to some pretty impressive stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, as promised, a few planeswalkers that have either settled somewhere calm, retired, or similar things that may have them not be seen too much around the Multiverse.
1) Rizana (GW): Selesnya gardener originally from a fanplane, Geonne, with the ability to shift between his human form and a swarm of bees. He’s been appointed as caretaker of an old Selesnya Temple Garden, living in the abandoned temple and taking care of its vegetation as a public park in exchange. A great gardener, that sells the best honey you’ve ever tasted to elite clients (mostly chefs and restaurants) at a very high price.
2) Ecxilet (WUB): An esperite vedalken planeswalker that carries two sentient relics from a fan-plane, Ferely. Has learned artifice on Kaladesh and specialized on using etherium for prosthetics or aesthetics (as opposed to full replacements like on esper). His stash of Etherium was salvaged from Tezzeret’s stash on Kaladesh, people there not knowing its value. Now married to @rhys-the-redeemable’s Vahn. Technically Cethrin and Dulbert, the two relics he carries, are independent characters too but I won’t expand too much on them here. After their wedding, joined his husband’s home town of Deka, and spends most of his time there.
3) Gevon (WR(B)): An orc from the fan-plane of Deka, where orcs, known as Osvils, are less aggressive than usual and more known for their musical and poetic work. He’s no exception, exploiting his magic over sand and glass to create temporary floating instruments and melodies. His spark ignited when he protected his village from a sandstorm by creating a wall of glass, while on the wrong side of it. He was trapped on Ixalan, far from his wife, @northernweird‘s Kilenka, for last seven years. They’ve since found each other again, and have happily reconnected, visiting planes together and re-establishing their home life.
4) Lia (WG): She/Her. Leonin from Mirrodin, living in peace on Theros. Can manipulate, use and amplify light through reflective surfaces, including her own metal parts.
5) Hadissen Salissel (WUG): A naga from Moloni, a fan-plane and, ex-rescuer with magic able to shift objects and people between states of matter harmlessly. He left his home plane in search of someplace that felt more like a home to him. He has found one in the strangest of places, on Winrovah, where he can admire the sights, blend in, and help people there.
6) Ysara (UR): She was a venerable minotaur from Theros, having grown past most of her people’s violent tendencies. Former Trapmaker from Skophos, with magic able to create lasting enchantments that binds objects together with other things or spells. Resides just far enough from a village on Kaladesh. She died during the phyrexian attacks on Kaladesh defending that village.
7) Wäger (WG): A wolf humanoid from the fanplane of Sicarius, a loyal friend and right arm to a Planetary Overseer belonging to a vedalken species “guiding” his people. Hundreds of years ago, they both vanished right as the canids’ revolt was starting to gather momentum and to wage war against their “masters”.
8) Cyr (???): An old planeswalker that changed the face of Moloni forever, and connected with a few other planeswalkers. Her name is shared with a country, and she’s not been seen in centuries. Presumed dead by most that knew her.
I think that’s all for now!

Note
Could I get a basic bio of each of your OCs? I've been in and out of the magic roleplaying community and would love to know ^^
Alrighty. I started making individual pages for them here but haven’t been very consistent with it. So, to sum them up quickly, below a read more because there’s a LOT of it:
Rizana: Selesnya gardener originally from a fanplane, with the ability to shift between his human form and a swarm of bees. But generally just a very good gardeners, that sells the best honey you’ve ever tasted.
Ivegard: Flamekin from Lorwyn, planewalker, pilgrim and empath. Hesitated between two careers, started a pilgrimage, got doused and drowned, sparked to Zendikar as a cinder, made a pilgrimage there and a couple atrocities to get to Omnath’s prison, contact with him reignited her flame and sent them in the Multiverse. Tends to overexert and finishes most of her fights with need for medical help.
Ecxilet: An esperite vedalken planeswalker that carries two sentient relics from a fan-plane, Ferely. Has been learning artifice on Kaladesh the last few months and is exploring the possibilities of using etherium for prosthetics or aesthetics (as opposed to full replacements like on esper). Also in a relationship with @vens3r’s Vahn currently. Was handling logistics from a small city on Esper, a Jundi dragon attacked with remains from his former boyfriend, killed some of his friends, he went out in the desert to abandon everything, found the relics and them latching to his mind plus the emotional overflow from earlier sparked him right in Amonkhet’s desert where he struck a deal with the less benevolent of the two relics to  be able to planeswalk even though he didn’t have the time to figure planeswalking out. Also part of the Cursetamer arc, an overarching story written mostly by me with Ery’s help featuring another character. The arc is finished now, except for a little tidying up that might happen at some point, and can be found here. Technically Cethrin and Dulbert, the two relics, are independent characters too but I won’t expand too much on them here.
Nyrhen: An elf planeswalker from Lorwyn (pre-lorwyn/Shadowmoor blocs), very full of himself and a jerk all around. His magic makes people what they truly are (or deeply think they are), with limitations. He sparked when his arm was cut of to avoid him being contaminated by nettlevines. It isn’t so much the pain than the realization he’d become Eyeblight that sparked him. His arm got better since. Very stylish, very disregarding. Still alive thanks to his magic.
Jova & Arega: Not planeswalkers (that anyone knows of). Jova is a human Simic scientist like any other. She is specialized in the study and progress of the growing cocoons and evolutionary vats the Simic use. Arega is an artificial intelligent Simic lifeform, hybrid of a bunch of stuff that she made and they follows the tracks of Jova. A lot of stuff about them is still secret until someone discovers it, but it has been revealed behind the scene that Arega is able to change bodies to take control of various krasises.
Icalia: An aven planeswalker from dominaria that has her personal small plane (her Haven) with an hotel/negotiation neutral ground for planeswalkers in it. She deals in favors, and her powers are mostly silence-based, both magical and mundane silence. She sparked during the phyrexian invasion and in a grey area of lore that she affected quite a lot, see her sparking story. She’s been involved a lot with my fanplane of Moloni and I’ve written a few more chapters of her past, but in French and haven’t translated them yet. She’s also kind of a hub character of mine, and knows most (not all) of my other ‘walkers, and can be assumed realistically to know of any planeswalker character if need be for rp purposes. Her Haven’s personnel is mostly constituted of her descendants on various degrees, she was married a few centuries ago but her husband passed away.
The Cursetamer: Ange Casselant of real name, an overpowered’ character that served as antagonist for the arc mentioned before. Lich planeswalker that has found a way to bypass normal problems linked to lichhood by making her phylactery a nearly indestructible magical item. And exploiting a god(dess?)’s powers to transfer her soul to it to avoid any damage that would extinguish her planeswalker spark. Currently resides on Innistrad with her partner, Annalise, after having finally found a way to transfer Annalise back to a body (it’s complicated). She’s handling a small town of refugees/voluntary test subjects in a massive underground complex on Innistrad, and she specializes in soul study and science. Her magic, aside from being nearly immortal, mostly exploits magical relics that she made or studied to replicate their effects.
Baheel: A planebound Aetherborn from Kaladesh, Baheel cooks for their own, very small and very local, restaurant. Everything in the restaurant is free, Baheel does it because they love cooking (even though they can’t eat themselves) and love when people enjoy tasting their food (as an Aetherborn, she relishes in those emotions, even). They have a weak point for dates and couples in their restaurant too, given that they tend to be sweeter than usual… As long as the clients are not weirded out by the aetherborn looking at them throughout the whole meal.
Dancing-Hands: Kamigawan Kitsune planeswalker with origami-based magic. Currently thinks he destroys the world to create a new one every time he planeswalks, so he swore to never do it again. First planeswalk was to Tarkir, where he studied under an Ojutai Skywise, but then planeswalked again (twice) since, and feels very guilty for it.
Dolores: A young-ish Azra planeswalker from Ferely with pain-based powers that works as a torturer in Paliano, thinking she’s smarter than any of the factions (plural) she’s working for. She uses a different name on each plane she visits, due to part tradition, part reality that on Ferely people can have power over Azras if they know their true and complete name.
Arnoss: A ghavalek (Gharial-looking people) planeswalker, from Ocaleum, @land-ofthebooty ‘s underwater fanplane. Can’t really do magic aside from basic one and an enchantment tied to him making him more resilient and stronger based on how many and how much people need him in his surroundings. Sometimes work as bodyguard. Sparked by the caravan he was a member of getting attacked and slaughtered by merfolks.
I think that’s all for now! I’ve got a couple other background characters I’ve made and used (some of the staff in Icalia’s Haven, a seer, Gerru, on Deka, using meteo predictions to extrapolate the future from cloud patterns, etc…) but they come up when they’re needed.

Alright, let’s see...
Ocaelum
By faction, as far as sentient people, we got...
Mainly Elves, humans and corals in the spheres, plus the trees themselves and some rarer people.
Dwarves, a handful of elder dragons, humans, goblins and more in the core.
Merfolks, cephalids and associates in the upper depths. Plus all sorts of sea monsters, some of which are sapient and part of the Shiver of kings.
A smattering of anurans (frogs), lutrives (otters) and axlotians (maybe salamander by type?), alongside many, many others in the World Family. Ghavaleks (crocodile), Selkies (Seal, they don’t count as merfolk here), dolphins (probably whale type), all the spirit-folk that come in as varied creature types as the regular folks of the family, if not more, and a lot more.
Ferely
Humans, minotaurs, elf, sirens, trolls, all very mixed up thanks to demon blood making them fertile with each other. Most people on Ferely have heritage from all of those, and end up leaning more towards one than the others by chance and choice. And sometimes that demon blood itself manifests making the person outwardly more of an Azra.
A handful of those demons are still around. More angels are around, but they come in a few different kinds depending on the religion. The main continent we’ve focused on so far mostly has Angels of Infinite Reflections, that always appear to share the appearance of anyone observing them (plus wings and other angelic additions).
Moloni
Moloni has humans, elves, nagas, viashinos, dwarves, probably other types as well.
There are also Guardians, Angels, Sphinges, Demons, Dragons and Elementals spawned by a source of magic to protect and regulate it. They’re very varied in appearance and magical in constitution, and need to stay within the range of their source to live.
Geonne
Geonne only has humans (left) as base sapient species, though the magic of the plane lets them, under the right circumstances, merge together with any other animal species on the plane, making beastkin of literally any animal species possible on the plane.
Winrovah
Humans, goblins, elves, leonins, nagas, gnomes, djinns, elementals, demon(s), angels, hydras, sphinges, dragons, aetherborn versions of most of those, and maybe a few more species that are extinct or even closer to extinction than the rest, since the end of the world isn’t being kind on ecological preservation.
Fan Character Plane Friday
So I’ve seen some other fandoms have OC days where there is a fun prompt to talk about/develop your OCs every week, and I thought HEY the mtg community has a lot of people with a lot of OCs, maybe we can do it too!
Ok so you know the drill, I’ll give a prompt and you can respond to it by answering directly, doing a doodle, making a custom card, or a little flash fic.
Happy character developing!
Feeling like a fanplane kind of day! What kinds of creature types are on your plane? Do you have any unique types that you made just for your plane?
