Title: A Kiss upon Checkmate
Genere: Marvel, X-Men, Romance
Pairing: Hank McCoy (X-Men '97) x Reader
TW: None
It was a quiet evening in the Xavier Institute, and you were spending it by having dinner while playing a game of chess with your crush, Hank in his room.
You've done this before, and even in the early hours of the day, but every time he always wins. You were good at chess, you just couldn't comprehend how advanced a player he was. Still it was all in good fun.
Y/N: "Hey, Hank?"
Hank: "Yes?"
You took one of his knights using your pawn and placed it where the knight was.
Y/N: "You ever think some days that, it's useless if they won't listen?"
He moved his bishop to a position that kept it safe while putting a piece of yours at risk.
Hank: "Even if they won't listen, we cannot afford to stoop to their level of violence. That would send the wrong message. Also, your king's in check."
You moved your king a square to the left which kept it out of the bishop's path.
Y/N: "Yeah, I know. But what if Magneto was right in some regard? What if this world wasn't made for mutants or their sympathizers?"
He moved his rook to take out one of your queens which was followed by you taking his bishop that he checked you with earlier with a knight.
Hank: "But remember my friend, the world's most dangerous men have always hidden their intentions behind a veil of unity and diplomacy. But in reality, they are the monsters for whom we truly fear."
He took out your pawn, allowing you to move another one up and promoting it to a rook.
Y/N: "I know. By the way, check."
He moved his king towards a safe spot, but then you moved your last bishop in a spot that once again had him in check.
You kept advancing your pieces and taking some from each other until he moved his king to the corner, putting him in check again. Only this time, you had the advantage and moved your rook to make it a checkmate.
Y/N: "YES! FINALLY! I beat you! Checkmate, fur ball!"
Hank: "Unacceptable! I should sue you!"
You both shared a hearty laugh at your first and probably only victory against him.
Hank: "Well now. I believe I owe you a little something."
You looked at him with your head slightly tilted and an eyebrow raised.
But without giving you a chance to process his statement, he held you by the chin as you got lost in his eyes, those beautiful, crystal blue eyes. Then, he kissed you. Soft, slow and sweet. That's when you remembered your little wager before you started the game. If you won, he'd hafta kiss you.
You felt his lips pull away, so you instinctively chased after them and wrapped your arms around his neck, refusing to let go.
Surprisingly, he actually reciprocated your feelings and wrapped his arms around you, holding you gently against his chest as you two kissed.
He then picked you up and laid you in his bed then closed and locked the door and closed the blinds.
He then climbed on top of you, massive arms at either side of your head as he lowered himself carefully. Still looking at you with those stunning eyes that captivated you the instant you met him.
Hank: "I believe I just checkmated you, my dear."
You two kissed as he slid his arms underneath you and rolled you so you were on your sides. You gently stroked the fur on his cheek, feeling just how soft it was. He gave you one final kiss on the forehead and snuggled you closer to his chest as you rested a hand on one of his massive pecs.

Hank McCoy has entered the chat! I was so excited to hear George Buza’s dulcet tones as Beast again! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Big Blue this season, and glad to see he’s in on the action - when he starts driving that Sentinel like I mech 🤌 Here’s some Beast fan art and another sneak peek at the next entrant!

Not necessarily the same as Sesame Street, but close... best part is George suggesting to the puppet "Go beat up Wolverine". And also wishing that Hank got to reunite with Carly Crocker and live happily ever after.
This was honestly a very fun little listen, and it really does feel like they nailed it in one with Buza. A background in literature, and a wide variety of life experiences, plus just a very naturally soothing voice. What more could you want for Hank?
Ageing well, too - there's been a fair bit of criticism, mostly towards Rogue's VA, for how certain voices have aged since the original TAS episodes, but Buza was absolutely bringing the sauce to every '97 episode in season 1, and I can't wait to hear more of him in season 2.
Hopefully he gets a bit more to do - I know I certainly wouldn't mind getting to see Carly again, and if they ever wanted an excuse to write Beast out of the show, I could think of far worse ways to do it.
Thank you for sharing this with me!

The first episode of the Star Wars inspired cartoon Ewoks premiered on September 7, 1985. The series, along with the similarly Star Wars inspired Droids, was one of the most expensively produced cartoons in the 1980's. The events of the series took place before their introduction in Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi. While the main character Wicket was played by Warwick Davis in ROTJ, he was voiced by Jim Henshaw (and Denny Delk in the second season) in the cartoon. The first episode featured the Tulga Witch Morga (Jackie Burroughs) plans to burn down the forest on the Endor moon. The episode featured other RTOJ characters Chief Chirpa (movie Jane Busby/ cartoon George Buza/Rick Cimino), Teebo (movie Jack Purvis/ cartoon Eric Peterson/James Cranna) and Logray (movie Mike Edmonds /cartoon Douglas Chamberlain). The series introduced new characters such as Aunt Bozzie (Pam Hyatt), Deej (Richard Donat), Dulok Shaman (Don Francks), Hoom (John Stocker), King Gorneesh (Dan Hennessey), Kneesa (Cree Summer/Jeanne Reynolds), Latara (Taborah Johnson/Sue Murphy), Malani (Alyson Court), Paploo (Paul Chato), Punt (Rob Cowan), Shodu (Esther Scott), Urgah (Melleny Melody), Weechee (Greg Swanson), Willy (John Stocker), and Winda (Leanne Coppen). ("The Cries of the Trees", Ewoks, TV Event)

Story time...
During the start of COVID-time, I decided to I wanted to re-collect some comics I had in the early 1990s. I didn't want reprints, I wanted originals.
I wanted to go through Todd McFarlane's Marvel work, starting with Daredevil #241 thru Spider-Man #16 (and then Image's Spawn #1-#25 plus the Violator 3-issue series)... and if you know about his run there, well... there were some pricy titles to collect. However, I wanted to do it, so I did it...
Also, due to COVID-time and my disability, I haven't left the apartment aside from medical appointments, voting and a few random times going out for food and eating outdoors [for the vast majority of the time]. We're both take it quite seriously because I really don't need to get any more sick than I am already. Yes, we're always masking when not in the apartment (and sometimes in the apartment when we have contractors coming in to do work). And we're diligent about as well. We haven't gotten sick yet.
(tldr; I basically haven't left the house unless I had to since Nov. 2020)
Fast forward to 2023 and after some life altering events, we decided to order VIP passes for Calgary Comics+Entertainment Expo, all 4 days. We figured with the early access our odds of not "getting sick" were okay. And also to save my leg from too much stress, we planned to rent a wheelchair.
Fast forward to 2024 and we have our VIP passes to the Calgary Comics+Entertainment Expo... and then McFarlane was announced as a late guest. I thought to myself, sure... I'll get an autograph. I can do that.
But as time ticked on, I felt like naaaah... there are bigger fans who could use waiting in line more than myself. An autograph would be nice but I didn't need one.
Then Fan Expo runs a VIP only context to win free autographs from him. Well then! That I could sign up for. My beloved partner, also a big comics book fan (more on the X-Men side of things [and she was able to get all of the X-Men '97 guests who were here, along with the original animated series Producer and Director autographs... and a selfie with Beast!]), also entered.
We both won (of course I'd get ticket 23... she got 24).
Now I needed to pull some "cool covers" so that we could make some choices (picture 1, above).
She chose Spider-Man #12 (and diligently read that 5-book series to get prepared for the day). I wanted to do Spider-Man #8 (for the very local tie-in) but we didn't exactly need two books signed from that series. So... what to choose, what to choose...
Amazing Spider-Man #311 (and it didn't even make the short list... not in the 1st pic) got the pick. It is a cool cover to be sure but I chose it for the nod to late 1980s Cowboy/Western fashion... and since I've grown up in Calgary, I was very aware of that reference (annual cowboy cosplay celebrations tend to do that... yay Calgary Stampede! [hey, if the comic+entertainment fandom has cosplay for CCEE, why not call the say the same sort of thing for the Stampede... this isn't a negative thing]).
When I told McFarlane why I chose the book I did, I got a chuckle and an "Oh wow!".
The only downside is that due to my disability I'm unable to attend day 4 but my beloved partner gets enjoy a day without pushing me around in a wheelchair (averaging over 9000 steps each of the 3 days)... give her arms and legs a big of a break.
But we did get quite lucky in our timings for things and we appreciated the experiences.
So long as we don't "get sick" and recovery time for this body o'mine doesn't take too long, then I think we can plan to attend again next year.

X-Men ’97 – Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 3 & Season 1 – TV Review
TL;DR – It perfectly sticks the landing, balancing emotion, narrative, and a cameo or 10 to create an episode that had an impact. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Disney+ Service that viewed this series.End Credit Scene – There is a mid-credit scene. X-Men ’97 Review – When I first started this series, I had this concern that maybe this new series would dent the old…

X-Men '97 (Season Review) | From Nostalgia to Innovation: A Riveting Journey with X-MEN '97
I just binged X-Men'97 3-part finale and it was more than I expected! Fast-paced, rich in detail, and character development that is truly satisfying. The series a nostalgic yet innovative take on the beloved franchise. A must-watch! #XMen97 #Review
This continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992) was not a show I was particularly excited about, but I knew I’d check out because I like the X-Men. I always liked how they made me feel less alone because when you grow up knowing that you’re different in some ways and that your differences can make you a target, having a band of mutants who use their gifts to protect a world that hates and…
