Sylvester McCoy's Doctor regenerated into Paul McGann's Doctor in Doctor Who: The Movie on May 14, 1996. After being shot by criminals, the Doctor was taken to a hospital, where his alien biology caused Dr Grace Holloway to accidently kill him. The Master also took over a new body and was protrayed by Eric Roberts. Doctor Who: The Movie was a failed pilot for an American Produced series. While the series didn't come to be, McGann cotinued to protray his Doctor in audio form and eventually in cameos in specials and later episodes of the revived Doctor Who series. Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (2006)
Tumblr media
Most movies are obviously good or bad. Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (or simply Stormbreaker in certain regions) has what it takes to entertain young teens but its low points are subterranean. I hesitated to call it a miss until I saw the villains. This adaptation of the book by Anthony Horowitz is derivative of every spy movie you've ever seen. Even if you can forgive that, there’s no way you can take the bad guys seriously.
Orphaned at a young age, Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer in yet another bad YA Novel adaptation) is recruited by MI-6 when his uncle (Ewan McGregor) is killed in action. His mission? Pose as a contest winner and get close to billionaire Darrius Sayle (Mickey Rourke) to find out the real reason he created “Stormbreaker”, a computer system he claims will change the world.
It’s ridiculous to believe a 14-year-old would be recruited by a government agency but that’s part of the fantasy. Turns out Alex has been subconsciously trained by his uncle for years. He can stand toe-to-toe with ruthless thugs (in cleverly conceived action scenes by John Woo that are unfortunately not convincingly shot). He just needs the chance to prove himself. Then he’ll have the opportunity to get his revenge… and save the world too. In Bond-like fashion, Alex is given a variety of amusing gadgets disguised as everyday “kid” objects. A yoyo, a pen and a Nintendo DS (available in stores now!). Those are pretty cool.
Whenever Stormbreaker starts winning you over with its teenage charms, a disappointment is unfortunately right around the corner. When they introduce Mickey Rourke’s Darrius Sayle, you’ll be flabbergasted. With pimp-like clothes, a cane, a ponytail and blue eyeliner, he looks like a caricature. You think that’s as bad as it’s going to get but then Missi Pyle as Nadia Vole opens her mouth. Her accent is so bad and cartoonish it’s like she’s in a comedy sketch.
And then, there are the contrivances and coincidences, not to mention the poor planning. Sayle has a personal vendetta against the Prime Minister (Robbie Coltrane) so he’s filled the Stormbreaker computers with a deadly virus. Not a computer virus; a green liquid that will kill millions of children when his old enemy presses a big red button as part of the launching ceremony. Said big red button is encoded to launch the virus only if the Prime Minister presses it. This means Sayle couldn’t release the virus (the literal virus. I can’t get over it) even if he wanted to!
Tumblr media
This sort of logical head-scratcher isn’t alone. It’s accompanied by a double-whammy of bumping into the right person, at the right time. To prevent the big button from being pressed, Alex desperately needs help. Who happens to be at the ceremony providing security? None other than the soldiers he was training with a week ago. The authorities must’ve had a great deal of confidence in them considering their first mission is this high-profile. Alex uses one of their weapons and destroys the button. His evil scheme down the toilet, Style runs away. Alex goes to pursue him but oh no! Traffic! How could he possibly catch up? Well by asking his school crush, Sabina (Sarah Bolger) for a ride! She just happens to be riding a horse right outside the building! Sure, why not?
Tumblr media
Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker is not a Harry Potter ripoff in the same way as the Billy Owens or Percy Jackson franchises but it’s pretty clear it wanted to cash in on the craze. An orphaned boy who discovered he belongs to a secret organization, access to special powers/resources, a film series whose leading man is destined to grow into a hunk for the girls, action scenes to appeal to the boys, a twist on an old formula to make it fresh (in this case, James Bond). Yeah, it fits. Unfortunately, this first chapter has none of the metaphorical magic needed to have lasting power. Plus, it’s just not a good movie. Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker is yet another mid-2000s flick that ends on a note promising a sequel that never happened. (July 31, 2020)

Oh I forgot to share! Sax has managed to drip his way into the semifinals! I feel like the picture of him looking disheveled while crying, bleeding, and handcuffed has done a lot of heavy lifting, but here are some more memes anyway.
If you'd like to vote for or against him (whichever is funnier honestly) then you still have time!

SEMIFINALS - Simblr's Saddest, Wettest Meow Meow - Mainline
Saxen (@herecirmsims) VS. Geoffrey Landgraab (@fallstaticexit)
(polls are presented left -> right unless stated otherwise)
My oh my! Semifinals already?? The winner of this poll will go on to battle the eventual winner of the losers' bracket. So close to the finish line!
Who's sadder? Who's wetter? Most importantly, who deserves to move on to the finals, to defend their title?? Read on for more information, and vote with your heart!
What is a ‘Meow Meow’?
(taken from tumblr user @/torturelabyrinth) “The thing about a true poor little meow meow is they have to be 1) downtrodden 2) morally questionable at best 3) deeply and pathetically miserable”
Tumblr media
Saxen
Things Sax does extremely well: fainting and bleeding (separately), fainting and bleeding (combination), rotting in bed, crying or being completely stoic (no in between), causing more problems while trying to fix his previous problems, omitting certain truths (aka lying).
Now, I don't know if he really counts as an SWMM because he's not a classic villain... but in his pursuit of Doing The Right Thing he has made some awful choices. Good intentions, poor outcomes.
I present the evidence beneath the cut:
Some of his crimes:
In an attempt to save his sister, he left his post and facilitated the escape of a world-devouring entity which he was supposed to help contain.
After his sister died he made another attempt to save her, via necromancy, and instead doomed her to an endless cycle of death and rebirth. Until recently, none of her reincarnations were healthy enough to survive infancy.
He befriended the parents of this latest incarnation without filling them in on the backstory, or his motives. After they were killed by his enemy, he took the baby and kept her hidden for 11 years (did she have grandparents, uncles, aunts? Yes, probably. He claims they couldn't have cared for her like he did and technicallyyyy he's right, since her survival required magic, but...)
He broke the arm of one of his 'adopted' adult kids (he has an enchanted cottage which has been a refuge for a lot of people) when said adult tried to prevent him from killing someone else. Yes, technically he did only push Thom and didn't intend for Thom to hit the wall so hard, but...
Long story short but his home world didn't end, it was just knocked out of its timeline for a while. Unfortunately, due to his actions on the day the Grim escaped (attacking portal guards and forcing his way through the rift, just as an unrelated-to-him group stormed the castle), he was a) assumed dead and b) immediately arrested on his return for treason and attempted regicide.
He's a constant menace and cause of stress to his man, the kindest and sweetest soul to ever live. He doesn't mean to be, it's just that his attempts to keep Fen safe often seem to involve risking himself in increasingly creative and fatal ways.
Why should you vote for Sax? Well, I think his endless complex trauma and the fact that almost all his misfortunes happened because he was trying to fix things/help people makes him pretty damn tragic and definitely very damp. He could do with a win. Plus... look at him. 🥲

Geoffrey Langraab
What makes Geoffrey a Sad, Wet Meow Meow? What’s more pathetic: marrying the girl of your dreams just for her to turn you into the biggest cuck in the tristate area or slowly gaining consciousness but still pretending you don’t see it because what’s wrong with a little sobbing into your wine glass over your cheating wife’s affair? Geoffrey’s sweet, sensitive nature has paved way for him to be a meek, spineless fluff of a man that will stand outside on the front porch with bated breath for the return of his wife after she plows yet another woman into the mattress under the guise of running a multimillion dollar company (it’s both).
This is the same man who look his own sons in the eyes and know they deserve better but will quietly beg for it from across the room because communication is scary when your wife has walls as thick as the mascara that runs down your face. And just when you start to have an ounce of faith; you’re reminded this is the man who saw with his own four eyes actual hickies on the inside of his wife thighs and chooses to do- well. NOTHING. 😀 Because if you never acknowledge your cheating wife’s passionate affair, did it actually happen? 😏

EXACTLY! Which is why I fully believe that the Doctor Who TV Movie was a commentary on how the health system was, and still is, fucked up.
Geoffrey Sax knew what James Cameron was on about.

Nancy Landgraab
What makes Nancy a Sad, Wet Meow Meow? Our famously known townie turned OC is the Queen of Melancholy. She's closeted, she's religiously repressed, she's h*rny, she's rich, she carries the burden of her deceased elder brother, she's the bane of her mother's existence. When she's not internalizing her self loathing, she's gazing longingly into the distance thinking about a life free of her mother's judgement and status that she never wanted in favor of running free through a sunflower field kissing beautiful women. And when she manages to actually show up for her two sons, she's still so emotionally detached that this will very much come up in a therapy session later. Her husband is almost on his knees begging for her to smile but she's still pining after her first love while being married to said husband (who's a second runner up for SWMM tbh).
She's a cheater, she's a liar, she's about to get into some risky, sketchy business, she disappoints her children, she's morally grey, she's a top, she's catholic, she's a cougar, she likes to splurge on dr*gs and strippers, the list goes on. ahhh.
