Oi. I'm still pretty stridently anti-generative ai.
The black box nature of these neural networks and the swathes of creatively poisoned learning data just fills me with the ick.
The ethics of it is nauseating to me. And I'm not really sure if you can be ethical abt using that.
If we disregard the energy/ecological costs of it (because I do acknowledge that disability requires more resources just as is; and this responsibility is more on the shoulders of the the energy/agriculture/automotive/tech industries than on individual disabled people). I think the only place for it is prototyping assets.
To commission an actual human artist with the idea you had in your head that looks like what the system spit out.
Not to claim as yours. This is just. Unless you just banked the learning data from consenting sources and not just scraping the internet at large indiscriminately - it's just. bleh.
Saying "no Disney" in the prompt list isn't really great if the scraped data had a lot of Disney art shaping it. And it's baked in once it's used, there's not really a simple undo button there, unless you start off fresh with better sourced data. Just so many of these models and creators just don't give a shit abt dealing with that, and that's my main issue with the tech.
The freelance art scene is already oversaturated as it is. Human artists are already undercharging for their work. For my own personal concession, If one can assure that the learning data was ethically sourced BEFORE just "oh, I'll just modify my prompting language post hoc"... I just can't really support it very far at all.
#in the end i'll just have to go - can't ctrl what other people do abt this (and attempt to make peace w/ that)#but i do have p strong feelings about it#i won't fuck w/ this kinda art and won't harass anyone over it#but yeah... it's just the /ooze/ is all over this tech

The difference between the US' 63 cents per person per year and the UK's ten dollars is massive. In the UK you can get a ten pound ticket to the National Theater, five pound standing room at the Globe to see Shakespeare, and get five pound tickets to the proms by standing in line at the Royal Albert Hall. The Museums in London are free. Though it may not be cheap to stay in London, I have always taken advantage of the cheap and numerous opportunities to experience the arts there. And we could have this in the states for ten dollars per year, per person? Sign me up. Give us the arts, give us our libraries, give us culture. Maybe we will turn back to live performance as Hollywood robber barons try to gut our media experience. Or maybe an uprising is necessary there too. We don't need the CEOs, we need new, artist run companies, and new opportunities for artists. Perhaps the CEOs have finally pushed things far enough in pursuit of continuously rising profits, to cause us to boycott their efforts and found new endeavors in all areas. It may be the only thing that saves the human made arts for the future. Because God knows we don't want a completely AI generated media landscape empty of feeling entirely.

MediaTek and NVIDIA Team up for Automotive AI
With more and more auto manufacturers pushing for smarter vehicles, there's been a considerably growing demand for more powerful smart automotive platforms, going beyond the simple act of pairing your smartphone with your car's Bluetooth console (think 'K.I.T.T.' from Knight Rider). It's no surprise then that we've seen an uptick of specially-designed hardware and software solutions that provide entertainment and navigation features for drivers and passengers alike. With that being said, MediaTek's push towards putting more AI tech into everyday consumer products has certainly yielded some very interesting results, and the company's newly-announced collaboration with PC gaming giant NVIDIA aims to do the same, at least in terms of automotive applications. More specifically, the mobile chip manufacturer formally announced that it has entered into a partnership with NVIDIA to develop new AI-powered software for vehicles, with the goal of creating a "smart cabin" for drivers and passengers. This collaboration will enable MediaTek to develop automotive SoCs, which will in turn integrate a new NVIDIA GPU "chiplet" with support for NVIDIA AI and graphics IP. Interestingly, these chiplets will be connected by specially-developed interconnect technology, at least according to MediaTek. Rick Tsai, Vice Chairman and CEO of MediaTek states: “NVIDIA is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing thenext generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles. Through this special collaboration with NVIDIA, we will together be able to offer a truly unique platform for the compute intensive, software-defined vehicle of the future.” NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang says this combination of MediaTek and NVIDIA hardware will "enable new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to mainstream.” MediaTek adds that its smart cabin solutions will run NVIDIA DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA and TensorRT software technologies. This then allows consumers to experience a full range of AI cabin and cockpit functionality with integrated AI, safety, and security features as well. While NVIDIA is more known to consumers as a PC and gaming-centric brand, the company does put a considerable amount of investment towards the development and production of AI and IoT (internet of things) technology, in addition to its powerful GPUs and processors. The Taiwanese company further states that by allowing MediaTek to tap into NVIDIA’s core expertise in AI, cloud, graphics technology, software and pairing with NVIDIA ADAS solutions, we can expect to see further improvement to the capabilities of the Dimensity Auto platform, MediaTek's flagship automotive software product. Dimensity Auto is designed for vehicles with support for compatible smart features. With all that being said, it should be interesting to see how both companies approach this new partnership, both on hardware and business fronts. Read the full article

tesla's build quality is absolutely fucking abysmal across the board. there are many many tiktoks of both owners and automotive industry professionals talking about how shoddily-put-together & practically-falling-apart every aspect of these dinky little sad ass cars are. i suggest finding some of those (seriously there are TONS) or maybe some articles talking about the issue and showing your friend, bc if he buys one, hes NEVER getting that huge sum of money back (the company is NOTORIOUS for never, ever giving returns & generally trying to milk you financially). many ppl know about the much-memed self-driving AI issues, much less people know that these cars are practically (sometimes literally!!!) falling the fuck apart brand new off the lot. i mean i didnt know until i saw tons of tiktoks about it
Dude I know!!!! I see SO MANY stories about them blowing up all the time and I'm super nervous about it, I guess the only reason I'm not is just that he's REALLY excited about it, and like I don't want to be what ruins his excitement but also like, I don't want him to blow up either.
Also I heard where they assemble teslas are like, straight up racist and give poc harder work and it's just, all of it, awful.
