Like I do think Gen X having to come to grips that Gen Z and Alpha don't think they're cool anymore is something that's been on the horizon for awhile now, especially since the 2010s was dominated by Gen X's nostalgia and attitudes. Like yeah, it's gonna stop being transgressive being nerdy or gothic or weird cuz it's the new normal for younger people.

That's right! Everyone's favorite underground garage trash crank, Ned Hayden, has released an autobiography -- Scene Loser: The True Story of the Grunge Underground -- and it is a blast!

It mainly covers his time working at the CBGB record store, salesman for Caroline distribution, then fronting his great band, the Action Swingers -- all while navigating the developing ridiculousness of the early 1990s "alternative rock" scene, full of friend bands who think they're important, iffy record deals, Lower East Side shenanigans, wobbly British tours, and Ned trying to stay drunk enough to hopefully pass out before ending up in a fight after a show.

It's blunt, not quite as vengeful as Ned's rep would hint, and chock full of fun 1990s underground rock references that'll make any Gen Xer smile/barf.

I'll save more for the review I'm writing for the next issue of Ugly Things magazine. For now, make your own opinion by picking it up and eyeballin' it right into your head right now! I believe Ned made only enough copies to clog up the CBGB toilet, so act fast! I think they have some here, or you can hit up Ned on Facebook, if he hasn't blocked you already.

But did you know that they’re a dope af punk band?? Like I’m listening through Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records for the first time and it’s fucking fantastic, in case the title alone wasn’t enough to intrigue you.
