Philip Treacy for Alexander Mcqueen | ‘Chinese Garden’ | 2005⠀ ———⠀ Treacy's work, for all its originality, is also rooted in his deep knowledge of the history of art, fashion, and design. This Chinese garden refers to the popularity of Chinoiserie in the eighteenth century and to the 1770s fashion for elaborate landscapes constructed in the topography of a woman's heroically sculpted hair. For his high-style coronet, Treacy has cannibalized the decorative shadowboxes of intricately cut-worked cork purchased in Asia and rearranged them into his own Orientalist fantasy. Hi everyone, I havent got round to drawing something for #Mermay today, therefore I’ll post an old illustration inspired by the mermaid played by Gemma Ward in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides from last year.

g e m m a Continuing with my celebrating Australian Supermodels, this week I’m celebrating the celestial beauty that is Gemma Ward. Originating from Perth, she hit the big time at age 15, meeting Miuccia Prada and scoring a campaign and exclusive runway booking, one of what would become several for the Italian label. Gemma ushered in a unique, fragile beauty, along with the likes of Lisa Cant, Lily Donaldson ( whom she was often paired with in editorials ), Jessica Stam and Lily Cole, her beauty was intriguing and intoxicating. Meisel was one of her earliest supporters, editorials, Covers and campaigns, she was also a favourite of Testino, Nick Knight, Craig McDean and many others. It’s her work with Paolo Roversi, however that I adore the most. The two have created some of the best fashion images of all time! Poetic and romantic, it’s as though they were destined to work together! Campaigns for Burberry, Dior, Valentino, Hermes, to name a few, International Vogue ( lucky enough to score one for US Vogues September 04 issue! The youngest ever, at 16, to appear on the legendary cover of the style bible ), Harpers and Elle Covers, along with every other major fashion title on the newsstands have ensured one impressive portfolio! Not bad for a girl who never considered modelling! Taking time off between 2008-13, Gemma made a welcomed comeback in 2014, staring in Prada’s Spring 15 show and again scoring the much sought after campaign.
