I normally associate Mazda's old M2 division with building versions of Roadsters and the AZ-1. I hadn't known about this FD3S RX7 based M2 1020 . Translation of pages below.

Extreme downforce and traction
It's finally out! Or more accurately, it's finally out!
This is the Infini RX-7 built by M2. Its name is 1020.
The concept is to combine sportiness and comfort that is on par with the Type RZ.
This time, since it was a prototype, I only did a quick run. Still, it was in the 9-second range.
This is no ordinary product. Can you wait until it is released on the market in the fall of 1994?

Original Tuned RX-7
The RX-7 itself is so extreme that it can be called a tuned car. In other words, in exchange for increasing the potential of the car as a sports car, it cuts off drivers below a certain level. It is a super high-performance car, but it is not made for everyone.
This is one of the proud things about owning an RX-7, but it also makes tuning a car like this extremely difficult. I've had over 10 tuned RX-7s, and every tuner I've talked to has said it was easy to tune.
I have never heard of such a thing.
In the midst of all this, Mazda's tuning factory, M2, has announced the release of a tuned car based on the RX-7 called the 1020.
"It's still in the development stage, so please don't drive it at full speed," I persuaded him, but I brought it to the Tsukuba Circuit and test drove it. Of course, I couldn't do a full-speed time attack, but I did a good job of driving a two-seater.
With a little push I was able to get a 9 second time. I felt like I could easily get a 7 second time even in this condition.
Of course it is. The M2 is made up of some of the most prominent members of Mazda's sports car development team. The M2 is made by the creator of the RX-7, who is essentially tuning it himself.
The development concept is also ambitious. It should be faster on the circuit than the Type RZII.
It's also a comfortable sports car that makes long-distance driving a breeze.
This is the RX-7 before the minor change. The exterior features a front bumper and rear spoiler, as well as a lightweight carbon bonnet with an air bulge (this will reportedly be made of aluminum for sale). The wheels and tires are BBS aluminum wheels with 235/40ZR17 front and 255/40ZR17 rear.
The car is fitted with Pirelli P-ZERO tires from Japan. The damper is an M2 tune based on a high pressure gas shock.
The intake and exhaust system remains standard for now.
It is highly likely that the car will be tuned with M2 tuning when it goes on sale. This is a reasonable tuning method, but it will have a larger intercooler and muffler tuning.
I wonder if this will be done.
Looking at the interior, the carbon kevlar bucket seats.
I thought they were the Recaro seats used in the RZ, but they are actually original to the M2.
Contrary to appearances, it's easy to ride
I always get nervous when test driving the RX-7 because its high performance requires precise handling.
However, right after the pit exit, "This car is very fast.
I could sense that this car would be friendly to drivers. This was evident from the very supple stroke of the suspension. Despite the use of high-pressure gas shocks, the initial roll was supple, and the ride felt like it would obey my commands. There was no bad habit of the RX-7 of cutting too much in response to steering inputs, and the steering felt natural.
I tried to step on the accelerator hard when exiting the corner, but it started to slip.
The braking performance was at a fairly high level, and the way it moved was slow. I think this was largely due to the characteristics of the Pirelli tires. After making sure that there were no sudden changes in behavior, I gradually raised the base and started with the "Zhou". I was told that the brakes were equipped with prototype pads, and the effect was in proportion to the pressure applied to the pedal, so the good controllability was also a reassuring factor.
The damper settings have not yet been finalized,
therefore, from the second lap onwards, I consciously increased the cornering speed and found that the setting was a little on the underside.
If you don't load the car fairly firmly into the corner, you will feel the slip angle increase from the middle of the corner. Even when drifting in medium-speed corners such as dunlop corners, the rear feels like it is being pressed down from above, and the front and rear tires slide diagonally.
In terms of grip balance, it seems like the rear is better than the front.
At first glance, the 1020 is fitted with flashy aero parts, but these are the results of wind tunnel testing, and are intended to increase downforce. There is still room for further refinements, so the detailed data doesn't mean much, but the lift coefficient at the rear is said to be negative.
This may be what's working. Surprisingly, I could clearly feel the downforce in the final corner and in the high-speed corners from Dunlop Corner to the second hairpin. In terms of balance, the rear downforce is greater than the front, and it feels like the rear tires are being pressed down. There is clearly a greater sense of contact with the ground for the rear tires.
In the final corner, perhaps due to the damper settings, even if you let off the throttle midway through the corner and try to tail out the rear, it was stiff.
It grips firmly and doesn't slip.
Due to the strong downforce at the rear, the handling is somewhat understated, so it is highly likely that the suspension, including the springs, will be further tuned before it goes on sale.
The next thing is the engine. It is powerful enough as it is, but as you go around the track the engine heats up and the power loss becomes noticeable. In that sense, it would be good to have a larger intercooler and, if possible, a larger radiator. And if you make the exhaust system, that is, the muffler pipes, thicker, you can definitely increase the torque across the entire range.
Lastly, the body rigidity of the pre-facelift RX-7 seems to be lacking compared to the current model. When I asked how they would deal with this, I was told that they were considering installing a roll cage.
The car is already stable and fast enough as it is, so there are high expectations for the performance of the completed M2 1020.

The exterior design of the M2 1020 is more aggressive than the 102, but it is not just a case of flashy aero parts; it is an aerodynamic body that has been created through repeated wind tunnel testing. 3● The front bumper has a larger opening for a more powerful design. This also improves the cooling effect. The lip spoiler is likely to be enlarged in the future to increase front downforce. 4● An air bulge opens up into the bonnet. It mainly serves as an air outlet to release heat from the engine compartment. Incidentally, the bonnet hood will be made of aluminum at the time of release. 5● The two front seats are bucket seats. They are made entirely of Kevlar and are original to the M2. They provide excellent holding power. Incidentally, it will also be fitted to the Roadster M2 version to be released in the spring of 1994. 6● The steering wheel around the instrument panel has been changed to a new Momo product, but everything is normal. I would like to see a boost gauge and oil temperature gauge added. 7● The extra-large rear wing is fixed. 8● The tires are Pirelli P-ZERO, 235/40ZR17 at the front and 255/40ZR17 at the rear. They have excellent grip performance, but at the same time, they are characterized by a slow start and are easy to control. They are a tire that can be enjoyed not only on the circuit but also on winding roads. They match well with the car.

Renewable Energy M&A hits a record high of $100bn!
The global deal value surged by 48% y/y to $108bn in 2022; transacted capacity more than doubled to 740 GW. Corporate consolidations in the US and acquisitions of offshore wind assets in Europe were the major contributors to this rise.

In the US, large, integrated power producers and oil majors expanded their presence in the onshore wind, solar and biofuels segments, fueled by incentives offered under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The Biden administration’s waiver of import tariffs on solar panels from certain Southeast Asian countries improved the outlook for the US’s solar sector, contributing to a 309% y/y rise solar deal value during the year. Meanwhile, clean fuel tax credits and the rising demand to decarbonize domestic heating and power spurred billion-dollar investments in renewable natural gas (RNG) and alcohol fuels assets by bp and Chevron.
In Europe, private equity (PE)-led farm-ins in offshore wind assets, primarily in the UK and Germany accounted for ~40% of the region's transaction value. Ambitious government targets and supportive legislation, such as Germany’s Easter Package, drove deal activity. Further, the EU's plan to offset 3.5 billion cubic metres of Russian gas annually and efforts to decarbonize fossil fuel-based power and heating is spurring investments in renewable natural gas and energy-from-waste platforms. Shell and KKR led activity in the sector during the year.
APAC accounted for $19bn of transactions during the year, with India emerging as the premier market in the region. Onshore wind M&A activity surged by 69% y/y, as countries in the region overcame supply chain bottlenecks due to proximity to steel and equipment manufacturing hubs. Additionally, continued elevated prices of oil, coal, and LNG drove C&I customers to turn to corporate power purchase agreements, leading to a surge in interest for assets backed by bilateral contracts
LatAm deal value surged by 314% y/y, with Brazil accounting for 84% of the region’s transaction value. A 2021 regulation that allows companies to sign dollar-denominated PPAs incentivized foreign investment in Brazil's renewables sector by reducing forex risk. Meanwhile, Chile recorded $1bn of deals in 2022, however, transmission bottlenecks continue to impact investor appetite in the country.

Refrigeration Was A Wonderful Invention When It Wasn’t Trying To Kill You
Over the years, Cincinnatians have discovered myriad methods to kill themselves. Breweries alone offered boiling vats, open shafts, toppling equipment and exploding barrels. At home, poisonous wallpaper, flammable nightgowns and yawning cesspools claimed many lives. As if we needed any additional hazards to jeopardize our safety, the Twentieth Century introduced yet another deadly contraption – the refrigerator.
The Cincinnati Post [22 June 1920] related one incident that nearly ended in tragedy:
“Firemen carried several tenants from upper floors of a four-story building at Eighteenth and Main streets Tuesday when ammonia fumes, escaping from an ice machine in the cellar, entered corridors and apartments. A valve in a machine that supplies refrigeration in the butcher shop of John Stegner, first floor of the building, blew off shortly before 10 a.m., causing the fumes to escape.”
The circumstances involved here were fairly typical for Cincinnati in the early 1920s and 1930s. Refrigeration was just beginning to enter the domestic market and most electric refrigerators were installed by businesses. In the early days, the noisy refrigeration machinery was usually relegated to the basement. The coolant of choice for most commercial systems was ammonia. Some of these installations were ponderous, as reported in the Post [10 March 1930]:
“Attempting to shut off ammonia pipes after a compressor head broke in the 15-ton refrigeration plant at Hamilton County Tuberculosis Sanitarium Monday at 8 a.m., Gus Leistner, 65, of 914 Findlay-st, engineer, partially was overcome by fumes.”
Later that same year, the University Club at Fourth and Broadway had to be evacuated because of ammonia leaking from its refrigeration system. The Strietmann Baking Company at Central Parkway and Plum Street suffered a massive ammonia spill in 1924. Firemen needed gas masks to enter the Hilberg Packing Company at 516 Polar Street in 1928 when ammonia seeping from the refrigerator filled the building.
Despite such catastrophes, ammonia was the most common coolant for the first thirty years of the 1900s. A Cincinnati firm, the F.W. Niebling & Son Co., of 406 Elm Street, boasted in an advertisement [20 February 1927] that the first ammonia-infused refrigeration plant installed by the company was 31 years old and still “in excellent condition.”
Still, ammonia was connected to so many mishaps that advertisers touted any system that did not involve ammonia. In 1926, the Tudor Court Apartments in Clifton installed a building-wide refrigeration system, with each of the 86 apartments equipped with a Frigidaire unit serviced by a massive compressor in the basement. The owners hastened to advertise that “no brine or ammonia” was used in that system.
Ammonia wasn’t the only chemical employed in refrigeration equipment. Responding to a reader’s inquiry, the Post [22 July 1921] inventoried a veritable witch’s cauldron of compounds used in various systems:
“What is the formula for the solution which is used in the cooling coils of an electric refrigerator? Substances are: Ammonia, carbon dioxide, ethyl chloride, methyl chloride and sulphur dioxide.”
Of that formulary, ammonia’s biggest competitor was methyl chloride, a colorless, odorless, flammable gas. Methyl chloride was more efficient than ammonia and better suited to the small coolant devices required for a single house, as opposed to the big industrial machines cooled by ammonia. Units incorporating methyl chloride were so small they were retrofitted as mechanical ice blocks. Customers kept their old ice boxes, canceled ice delivery and turned on a methyl chloride unit in the same compartment where they would formerly have loaded a block of ice.
Manufacturers also claimed methyl chloride was safer than ammonia. Cincinnati’s Milnor Electric Co. highlighted this benefit in an advertisement [18 March 1923] for their Serv-el Automatic Electric Home Refrigeration products in the Cincinnati Enquirer:
“Important Notice: The gas (methyl-chloride) used in Serv-el is harmless, odorless and non-poisonous. Only Serv-el has this advantage.”
This claim was sorely tested in August 1929 when a rash of deaths blamed on methyl chloride refrigerators was reported from Chicago. The Chicago deaths created a panic among refrigeration companies who appealed to the federal government for assistance. The Cincinnati Enquirer [23 August 1929] reported that three governmental agencies – the Public Health Service, the Bureau of Standards, and the Bureau of Mines – had announced that household refrigeration systems were safe.
“Serious accidents from household refrigeration systems, the statement continued, have been small in comparison to the number in use and added that improvements might be expected that would reduce materially the small hazard that does exist.”
The Chicago deaths gave hope to the consumer ice industry, fighting a losing battle against the march of progress. In an Enquirer advertisement [31 July 1926], the City Ice & Fuel Co. complained that these new-fangled systems required:
“ . . . a complicated, high-cost mechanical-chemical outfit, dependent on a large and continuous supply of electricity to make it ‘run,’ and on some chemical (SULPHUR DIOXIDE OR METHYL CHLORIDE) to create cold – just as ammonia is used in the big ice plants.”
It was, of course, a losing proposition. The old ice boxes were messy, moldy things that really didn’t keep food all that cold and regularly flooded the kitchen with water melted from the huge block of ice delivered by some guy who tracked muddy footprints across your carpet.
All the industry needed was a better coolant, a chemical that cooled your refrigerator but didn’t kill you. The solution came from an inventor named Thomas Midgley Jr., who lived just up the road in Dayton. In 1932, Midgley came up with something called Freon. It checked all the boxes and soon replaced all other coolants for the next 60 years or so.
Problem was, Freon, a chlorofluorocarbon, accumulated in the atmosphere and contributed to the destruction of the ozone layer that protects life on earth from the harmful rays of the sun. So, in essence, to avoid a few disastrous refrigeration accidents, we found a solution that endangered all life on the planet.
Ponder that the next time you pull a brewski from the fridge.

Good point. Though that just gives everyone even more reason to swear up storms. Kafka is lucky noone knows what he looks likes as a human. Even with what happens in canon, Kafka still retains his human form in my Quarter Au casue come on, even before Tiny Kafka already had a core of his own that allowed him to have both forms.
Though that also means the heart core is back and means the DF has to work out a whole new system to be able to dected Kafka cause their current ones sure as hell can't even with his new power upgrade. That heart core is just too good at hidding it all, especially when Kafka is in human form.
So how did the officer find Kafka when they finally managed to catch him? At a burger joint of course. There was at least a few squads hidding around the market, keeping themself in the shadows as they slowly monitored the place.
It was Soshiro's dad who notice that something was a odds. Yeah, its time he got a taste of Troublemakers infamous ways to cause embarrassing incidents. He managed to single for a group to follow him and slowly but surely they managed to sneak up on Kafka who was currently too busy stuffing his face in fires to notice a thing. At first.
Credits where credits are due, neither Kafka nor the officers reacted much beside going stock still as the himbo slowly turned to look at them. For a good few mintues nothing happens at all as both side don't want to make a move. Then pure chaos starts the second someone blinks and move just an inch, and soon the whole place is a mess of bullets, sword, claws, tail and what nots as Kafka becomes part cat and runs all over the place to try and avoid getting hurt or worse.
It attracts all the other officers as well, which just adds to the chaos. Kafka throws all sorts of stuff at them. From used grease to plastic utensils and even the furniture. It was a mess to say the least, with Soshiro's dad getting a few buckets worth of grease on himself and being covered in plastic warpers from head to toe. It would be funny how awkward the swordman was trying to keep his footing had it not been for what happened next.
A fire started cause one stray bullet hit where it shouldn't, a gas pipe and Kafka finds himself haulling out unconscious officers before hauling his own ass out when the building decided its better to just explode.
The report after is among the few legdendary ones to read among the future officers. Not only becasue of what happened but also due to there being one of the few with actual footage and boy is it a blast to watch for everyone. Well for those who did not actually experience it that is. Kafka got some very odd looks when he did not react the same way others those when shown the first time after he finally managed to join the DF. He had to come up with a good explaintion for that.
This of course was not the only time that year the officers had to try and capture Kafka in a food shop. Not to mention now being a juvenile meant far bigger cages and new equipment needed to catch the now much large kaiju before his mom showed up. Cause of course I forgot that Akari dies when Kafka is like 12. Which lessend the raids a good bit, but Kafka still had to do it as Akari did not have good hunting grounds to provide all that Kafka needed.
It was one of the few times Akari hated the fact they lived in a city and not in the country side. A lot more kaijus are easier to find out there.
LMFAO I imagine Kafka having to get a different phone number and email if his human identity was known to the public. We know he would be flirted on by both species. Human and kaiju.
A burger restaurant is the worst place to use a gun in my opinion. It takes one bullet to blow up the entire place. Soshiro's father definitely wouldn't like any greasy food after that particular incident.
The city definitely isn't a good kaiju hunting group. At most you would find are rats, raccoons, and possums.
