physically sick over the fact that. In the game’s canon Viktor is doing whatever he can to get rid of his emotions and humanity. and it’s what him and Jayce clash over most. its the center of their entire conflict
but in arcane it’s torn away from him against his will because of Jayce. Because Jayce didn’t care what Viktor became as long as he got his partner back. Hello. Can anyone hear me

The Joy of Gaming: Beyond Entertainment
Tumblr media
Playing games makes us happy. It takes us back to our childhood and gives us a sense of freedom. The inherent joy of gaming transcends mere entertainment, tapping into our primal instincts for challenge and achievement. When we engage in games, we automatically jump into action and put our best foot forward when we face a challenge. We are more than willing to use our cognitive abilities, jog our memory, pay attention, and employ our skills – all to somehow win. This drive and enthusiasm that games evoke are not just about fun; they have profound benefits for our cognitive, physical, and social development.
Cognitive Benefits of Gaming
It’s a fact that playing games improves our problem-solving and fine-motor skills. Games often require players to navigate complex environments, solve intricate puzzles, and make strategic decisions. These tasks engage various cognitive processes such as critical thinking, spatial awareness, and logical reasoning. For instance, strategy games like chess or modern video games like "Civilization" demand foresight and planning, honing players' ability to anticipate and strategize several moves ahead.
Moreover, gaming builds better hand-eye coordination. Action games, in particular, necessitate precise control and quick reflexes. Players must often respond rapidly to on-screen stimuli, synchronizing their hand movements with visual cues. This coordination not only enhances gaming performance but can also translate to improved motor skills in real-life activities, such as sports or even surgical procedures.
Enhancing Decision-Making Skills
Gaming helps make accurate decisions. In the heat of gameplay, decisions must be made swiftly and effectively. Whether it’s deciding the best route to evade an enemy in a shooter game or choosing the right moment to strike in a fighting game, players learn to evaluate situations quickly and act decisively. This rapid decision-making process enhances their ability to process information efficiently and respond under pressure, skills that are invaluable in real-world scenarios such as driving, emergency response, and high-stakes business environments.
Social and Emotional Benefits
Playing games also improves our prosocial skills. Many games, especially multiplayer and cooperative games, require teamwork and communication. Players must collaborate, share resources, and develop strategies together to achieve common goals. This collaborative environment fosters social interaction, helping players build and strengthen relationships. Additionally, it promotes empathy and understanding as players work together, often forming lasting bonds and learning to appreciate diverse perspectives.
The sense of camaraderie and achievement in games can also boost self-esteem and emotional well-being. Successfully overcoming challenges and reaching goals within games provides a sense of accomplishment and pride. This positive reinforcement encourages players to take on new challenges, both in-game and in their everyday lives, fostering a growth mindset and resilience.
The Physical Thrill of Gaming
Playing games gives an adrenaline rush that excites and engages us. This physiological response is due to the immersive and often high-stakes nature of many games. The thrill of competition, the excitement of overcoming difficult obstacles, and the joy of victory all contribute to this adrenaline surge. This heightened state of arousal not only makes gaming enjoyable but also sharpens focus and concentration, enabling players to immerse themselves fully in the experience.
The engagement and excitement provided by games can also serve as a powerful motivator. Gamification, the application of game-design elements in non-game contexts, leverages this principle to enhance motivation and engagement in various fields such as education, business, and healthcare. By incorporating elements like points, badges, and leaderboards, gamification taps into the intrinsic motivation that games provide, making mundane tasks more appealing and encouraging sustained effort and participation.
Broader Impacts on Learning and Development
The benefits of gaming extend to educational contexts as well. Educational games, or "edutainment," combine learning objectives with game mechanics to create engaging and effective learning experiences. These games make learning fun and interactive, often resulting in better retention and understanding of complex subjects. For example, games that teach coding skills through interactive puzzles or history through immersive narratives can make these subjects more accessible and enjoyable for learners of all ages.
Furthermore, the problem-solving and critical thinking skills developed through gaming can enhance academic performance. Research has shown that students who regularly engage in strategic and problem-solving games tend to perform better in subjects such as mathematics and science. The interactive nature of games encourages active learning, where players experiment, hypothesize, and learn from their mistakes, mirroring the scientific method.
Promoting Mental Health and Well-being
Gaming can also have positive effects on mental health. For many, games provide a much-needed escape from the stresses of daily life, offering a safe and controlled environment to unwind and relax. This escapism can be therapeutic, helping players manage stress and anxiety. Additionally, games with immersive narratives and compelling characters can provide emotional catharsis and a sense of connection, alleviating feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Moreover, games designed with mental health in mind, such as those that promote mindfulness or cognitive behavioral techniques, can directly contribute to mental well-being. These games encourage players to engage in activities that promote relaxation, self-reflection, and positive thinking, providing tools for managing mental health in an accessible and engaging format.
Conclusion
In summary, playing games is far more than a trivial pastime. It takes us back to our childhood, evokes a sense of freedom, and harnesses our natural desire to overcome challenges. The cognitive, social, emotional, and physical benefits of gaming are vast, improving problem-solving abilities, fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, decision-making, and prosocial behaviors. The adrenaline rush and engagement games provide keep us excited and immersed, enhancing focus and concentration. By integrating gaming principles into education, mental health strategies, and everyday activities, we can leverage the joy and benefits of gaming to enrich our lives and foster personal growth and development.

I think depictions of Anya being cruel to Curly or drawing out his suffering are artful and chilling but completely miss the point of the story and her character.
I'm not saying she doesn't deserve to have that "I told you so" moment with him but not in something callous or cold. Even if that is how it happened, she'd immediately feel guilty cause at that point she's not tormenting her tormenter or even the person truly at fault. She's doing something cathartic, similar to how Jimmy likely hits Curly to release rage he can't against the rest of the crew. She'd see herself as no different when she'd come back from the moment and see Curly cowering at her. She wants someone to take responsibility but how does being cruel to the defenseless help? Why would she want the power Jimmy has over her over Curly?
The idea of her extending someone else's pain is just so against the struggles she already faces and how she can't even bring herself to cause someone pain even to help them. Her very desire is to release herself from her own suffering and I doubt she'd even fine some sort of guilty release in being cruel to another.
#anya is not a character i see taking agency or indulging in cathartic behaviors#not knowingly like i see her as a character trapped in her head and maybe in the scenario she's cruel to Curly she is envisioning Jimmy#in his place but its not a story about justice or those deserving of punishment and those not like its the opposite of people projecting#their issues on the wrong people and saying things to the wrong people and doing things they shouldn't but anya uniquely falls out of it as#she is subjected to a lot of it but it is also not something she wants to subject another person to like you are doing what Jimmy does and#placing ur rage into another persons and viewing their actions through your eyes like she'd more likely yell at him than do harm or#cause him more pain like at least make it in character#but also she clearly doesn't want to see jimmy or curly in the same light and doesnt because she still repeatedly goes to Curly for comfort#and protection and god there's like concepts that need to be applied to characters individually and then the story as a whole#we can not view the game through only one themed lens less we forget to inspect the compounding factor of Anya is so much more than girl#that needs to be allowed to go off but a woman that simply wants right to be done by her and no more harm like she doesn't want to be aroun#the suffering like idk but some of yall would just benefit from like understanding that people are inherently grey with the capabilities of#black n white thinking or actions#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#anya mouthwashing#i like her the most but then again i am defensive of all women in media and hate when people change the way the character would take agency#for themselves like yes I want her to tweak out but she just wouldn't and I like seeing realistic depictions of a woman suffering the way#she is like shes not the type at the end of the movie to have a one liner but feel a shallow freedom cause she needs to realistically heal#idk but its just like there is an obbsession forming with making her character her pain and not how she handles and navigates the issue

Marta, a member of the Brazilian national team, said in an interview: "We already knew that playing against the USA was difficult because you have to play against them (the team) and usually against the referees as well." She was right here. There is no heroism or beauty in winning something when the structure benefits you. And there are still idiots who think that politics doesn't mix with the Olympics when USA even uses anti-doping as a political tool.

As someone whose degree was borderline digital marketing, it baffles me every single time companies like Unity pull this kind of shit.
First of all, it doesn't make sense. I don't know who conceived this moronic fee plan, but it's absolutely absurd. There's a lot of ways to get more money - not that I find any of them particularly favorable, but at least a price increase, sub tiers, etc are somewhat sensible in a functional way.
Beyond that, they don't have any common sense to see how this shit ALWAYS fails. One of two things are going to happen. Either everyone is going to jump ship from Unity (already seeing game devs reporting they'll be pulling their games) and their competitors will overtake them, or they'll have to backpedal.
Obviously, losing most of their business is bad and understandably unwanted for them, but I'm baffled by how few recognize the power of the second consequence.
Even if they reverse the decision, this is a HUGE smear to their reputation. Unity will lose business regardless, but even worse will be the loss of confidence in the company.
Consumers and devs alike are not going to forget this. They will not let it go. Other companies will use this as a talking point for their engines and their assets being superior because they at least respect game devs and gamers. They never tried to charge bullshit fees. They never got shamed back into being user friendly.
Reputation matters. Especially in today's market. Consumers largely do not fuck around anymore with companies who do this, especially when they've been dependable in the past.
It's foolish. It's embarrassing. It's greedy and out of touch. I don't envy their PR team right now.

what i would give for a ghost based cod campaign. can you imagine if they pulled from the comics and had roba come back and want to get revenge against ghost for destroying his empire? the 141 slowly learning about simon riley and banding together to kill his ghost?
ghost being so certain he killed roba to set up an unreliable narrator; taking this unfathomable soldier, the nightmare of the 141, and realising he bleeds humanity. playing as ghost through flashbacks of mexico and his torture under roba but in the current time, little details break down; little inconsistencies of enemy numbers or base layout or what people look like, things that you can't be sure if you the player just missed something or if it’s really ghost seeing things that aren’t there
ghost starting to question how much of his memory is real, both what he went through with roba and what he’s currently experiencing; if it's his trauma bleeding through or if he's breaking for the last time. he doesn’t know if he can trust himself ("just make sure you can trust yourself. start there") and he has to reckon with completely trusting the 141 when he realises he can't
i need a sequence of him just losing his shit; hearing roba's voice in his head, his taunting “english” telling him he never left his compound, seeing the dead prostitute and his father laughing, always laughing, the tear of the meathook between his ribs and sting of the scorpions in his flesh, the coffin and the rotting stench of the dark and all of it culminating in ghost almost accidentally shooting soap when he tries to talk him down
whether it ends up being someone pretending to be roba or they just change it to roba still being alive, either way i need a ghost based campaign with personal stakes and character depth
