Our “very literature and history inspired” cameo ✨
We asked about Edwin’s favourite books, and whether he would have read WW1 poetry (his answer to that one actually kills me) and what part of history he would have been most shocked to find out about after coming back from hell.
Also the line “I have a feeling you both perhaps have more brains than Edwin” will make me giddy with joy forever!

🍬 Happy Halloween! Here's some new George content as a treat 🍬
I think it is so interesting that he talks about Edwin moving with a flourish! We can see some examples of this even if we just look at a few moments from the show. It's in how expressively he talks, it's in how he swivels on his heel when he moves, and it's in how he looks just as surprised as Charles when they're listening to new ideas.
I wanted to appreciate everything George put into his performance for a moment. He's so complex, so comfortable in his skin. I love that George mentioned that Edwin does not have regrets or guilt about his capabilities. He is comfortable how he is. I also love that he humored us and gave us gems like he is comfortable with specifically Charles touching him. I just love that Edwin feels so confident in who he is and what he wants.

Here are my questions for this cameo: In ep4, what is Edwin referring to when he says "extreme" after Charles attacks the Night Nurse? What was Edwin thinking when Charles refused to be comforted?
Here is my question for this cameo: Jayden said on a Twitch stream that he tried to make you laugh where he was playing Charles disguised as the Cat King, but you stayed professional the entire time. Could you share any funny moments from the set?

@gameo-archive another one for the collection!
About Charles using mirrors as windows, the 'thing that is worse than a demon', and love for Jenn Lyon.
Transcript under the read more...
George: Hi Pip, it's George and Jayden here from the Dead Boy Detectives. It's lovely to hear from you, thank you so much for being a part of our little cameo week, or half week, we've absolutely loved it, getting to relive all things Dead Boy Detectives. Now, let's get into your request. You've said: "Jayden, when did Charles figure out mirrors could be used as windows?"
Jayden: Ooh well I always imagined that Edwin, obviously, Edwin has all these books of magic spells and I reckon from time to time Charles probably would have a little scroll through them himself, and I reckon that that was something he saw in one of those books and a spell that he really wanted to master as he obviously did want to go and check in on his mum. Um so yeah that is how I think he came to knowing how to do that. "George, what is the 'thing that is worse than a demon' Edwin was traded to in Hell?"
George: Great question. I probably could've had a more clear-cut answer when I filmed the scene a year and a half ago, but I imagine it was something, maybe like some evil of a non-physical form and I imagine it might have been some form of torture, so you know, like you see in, I can't remember which realm of Hell it is, but when the boys are running through the hotel, through Hell, and everyone's stuck, they're frozen... something of that ilk. It would have been a form of torture, like maybe in a room, kind of powered by a non-physical entity and I think that would have been a big struggle. Um you've said: "Please tell Jenn Lyon she is iconic. Esther is the best antagonist, so funny and scary." Listen, I tell Jenn, I speak to her a lot and I'm often telling her how much she is loved. So I will pass this on gladly, because it's true.
Jayden: And we agree.
George: We agree.
Jayden: Very, very much so. In episode 8, I was chained up to a kitchen cabinet, and in most cases that would've been awful, but the fact that it was Jenn Lyon aka Esther's cabinet, it made it a little bit easier. Listen, we love you Jenn, if you do ever watch this, but we also love you, Pip.
George: We love you, Pip.
Jayden: Thank you so much for sending in this request, you are such an angel, thank you for showing love and supporting our show. Sending you lots and lots of love.
George: Bye!

Cute questions, letting them gush about each other (and Kassius at the end there!) aww
@gameo-archive another one for you!
Transcript under the read more...
Jayden: This is a cameo for the Friends of Five. It kinda reminds me of the Furious Five from Kung Fu Panda [laughs]. You have said: "Hi George, hi Jayden, first we'd like to say thank you so, so much for this opportunity to interact with you both, we really appreciate it. Hopefully you're having just as much fun as we are with the cameos. We've got a few questions for you." Okay, let's get straight into the questions, then. So: "What is something about each other's acting that you enjoy?" Ooh I love that question.
George: Um, I love Jayden's sense of play. When Jayden is on a set, he's all about playing, whether it's in a scene, whether it's outside a scene. And, to be honest, you know, actors back in the day were called 'the players', because playing is central.
[Jayden laughs]
George: So, he's born for it, what can I say.
Jayden: And I love George's prep, uh, that goes into his acting. Um there were, yeah, it blew me away, the amount of prep and detail that went into every tiny, minute detail of Edwin, and I think it showed on screen.
George: "What scene do you think the other acted great in?"
Jayden: I love these questions! Oh my god, that is so hard to pick just one. Um... I mean, I always go back to the stairway scene in Hell. I always say, even to now, I've said it [in] interviews, it just shocked me, the amount of raw emotion, and how high the stakes actually felt within that moment, it actually blew me away.
George: I think I was really taken with the Charles flashback scenes, because, now I'm... when we were filming, I was with him the whole time, so filming, him... Jayden filming the flashback, uh it was... I sort of saw it with naked eyes, and um it really blew me away. Like, um... seeing Charles like that, and seeing Jayden like that, it was actually really horrible and um I didn't like it.
Jayden: You came and made sure I was okay after, didn't you? Yeah.
George: Yeah, I kept making sure. Um... next question: "If there was an episode that was set in London, what would you like to see incorporated, either culturally or location-wise?" Well... not to give too much away, but um a large part of a future season-
Jayden: A major part!
George: -would have taken place in London.
Jayden: I would have loved to see them go to, like, a fish and chip stand and eat some fish and chips [laughs] even though they can't.
George: Um, yeah, I think they probably would have brought in a lot of tropes, like red telephone boxes...
Jayden: Black cabs...
George: Black cabs, yeah.
Jayden: Night buses.
George: And I think we would have also, maybe, explored some other parts of, um... you know, maybe some rural England, for example.
Jayden: Uh, this was from Nora, Vicki, Alex, Ezzy and Wit [unsure of spelling, my apologies!] aka the Friends of Five. Listen, for that five, we're gonna give you a big high five, on the count of three, one two three [imitates the sound of a whip cracking].
George: And, finally, if we could invent a new holiday, what would it be called? Can we have a Crystal Palace... can we show some love for Crystal Palace, please? And Kassius. Go show her some love. We love Kassius, she's our girl. Love you guys, take care!
This is the second cameo I took part in, the boys praise each other’s acting and Crystal, and talk about cases in London. ✨

Love how upset the fandom at large is on behalf of George. Netflix did him so dirty.
#i also cannot believe they had him post that video with the caption#knowing what people would think#or at least let him and consented to it#it feels like they were trying to make people mad at him instead of at them#along with how badly he was mislead#gameo week probably made netflix execs shit themselves#george deserves us being upset on his behalf#george rexstrew#dead boy detectives#save dead boy detectives

Happy Catwin Day everyone! Let 11/20/24 forever be remembered as such.
I'm sharing some Catwin relevant tik toks, Gameos and Gameodens to commemorate the occasion. Under the cut because it got long.
"What's next for Edwin?" : ["Dating"]
"Date ideas [for Edwin] besides a walk?" "That would depend on the date in question"
"If he hadn't kept him there, would Edwin have been down for a smooch?" " :/ No, I don't think so. Not then. He was already fairly discombobulated with. . . not having a smooch. I think he would have combusted."
"What's next for the Cat King?" "I actually KNOW what would be in store for them. . . potentially. Moving forward. So, that is slightly determined by what I know."
Props George stole from set: including the Cat King bracelet
"This one was perhaps a little bit naughty"
Edwin's internal perception of each character besides Charles, including Cat King
"Cat King came as a shock to Edwin--an exciting shock, but a shock, nonetheless. He causes something to shift in Edwin that makes him feel very unsafe but that's fun to play, and as an audience, fun to watch."

The one that started it all! Catwin canon events in Season 2!!!
More s2 Cat King implications. The highlight for me is Jayden's face journey in the background:

Oooh costume and prop details, nice!
@gameo-archive, fresh batch ahoy!
Transcript under the read more...
Anke! It's so nice to hear from you. It's George here, as I'm sure you know, from Dead Boy Detectives. Thank you so much for requesting a cameo. It's such a pleasure to see your name pop up once again.
I'm joined here by my trusted doglet, Raffy-roo, who is... actually, it's probably time for his food soon. I should check the time...
Thank you for writing in! Let's get straight into it. So, you've said you have "a couple of questions concerning props and costuming." Love, already love. "When Edwin dresses up in episode six, did you have any say in what he was wearing? Also, does he wear brown boots, instead of his usual black ones?" Yes! He does wear brown boots in episode six.
Did I "have any say in what he was wearing" um... I've actually just, funnily enough, spoken about this. The colour green was very important to me, um... and I shared that with Kelli [Dunsmore], our costume designer, and she very, very, you know, kindly... kindly's the wrong word, she had no obligation to even include it, you know, it's her vision, I should really just stay in my lane, but she found this gorgeous um green, I think it was like a merino wool, jumper and um she found green laces for the boots. I don't think they... I don't think you're able to see them in the show but that's... those small touches. You know, the devil really is in the detail and um that was, that was really, really cool.
Um, I'm tryna think if I tried on any others. I... I was... there was a chance I was going to wear a navy pinstripe suit as the hero costume, instead of the grey, but they didn't have enough copies at the time so we had to go with the grey. But I think the grey's best. Um... um, yeah.
"What motif does the Payne crest in his notebook show, and what inspired it?" Gosh, okay. I think there's a gryphon, or a lion... it's basically... I really thought it was important, or it felt accurate to me, that Edwin would have some kind of family sigil, you know. I imagined he'd have like a signet ring that he'd keep in the top drawer of his desk at the office. But he wouldn't wear the signet ring, because that would be... there's too many feelings about his family.
But there was something really interesting to me about him having his... the family crest, or the family sigil, embossed on the front of his notebook, and the idea that it would sit here, sit close to his heart, feels like an emotionally repressed boy's way of feeling, in some way, very sort of distantly connected to his family, and his parents. And I just, I thought there was something interesting there. It just... I pitched it... I was kind of a bit naughty, I actually pitched it straight to the head of props, Terry Weaver, and then Steve [Yockey] messaged like 'okay, hold on.' So I had to make a pitch. But they... they honoured it, so that was really cool. And again, like, Steve and Beth [Schwartz] and the team... everyone was so collaborative and that was so cool. That was so, so cool. Um.
"Who came up with the idea of the ironing board as a makeshift desk in episode two?" That probably would've been Tony [Wohlgemuth], our set designer. Or James [Willcock], our head of art/deco. It would've been... one of the two. But I agree, I think it's so cool, so genius. I love that opening shot in episode three where you see the ironing board. But this is the thing, it's like... the fun thing as an actor is we had no idea about any of that. We just walk onto set to rehearse and that's the first time we see it. And then we do a quick rehearsal, they set up, and then [clicks fingers] we start shooting. So it's so exciting for us, as the actors, when we walk on and see all this stuff. Sorry, I'm rambling. "Who picked the items that were put on it?" That would've been the art or set design departments.
"Finally, something unrelated to the show. I hope you received the drawing of Jenny's [whispers] wedding for Bri [Cuoco]. [Normal volume] According to the Royal Mail, it and some prints arrived at your agent's office about a week ago." Um, I actually chased this up. I have chased this up, and it's in transit to me, at my house. Rest assured, I will get it to Bri [whispers] for her wedding. [Normal volume] And I will put 'from'... I will tell her it's 'from all the Dead Boy fans', if that's the right thing to do. I mean, I'm sure it is. She's gonna absolutely love it, she's gonna be very moved by it. Um, I'll try and find a frame to put it in, as well, cause I think that would be really nice. Cause I know that will really mean a lot to her.
Okay, Anke, lots of love. Have a lovely week, look after yourself, and happy holidays. Bye!
Treated myself to another cameo, in which I enquire after Edwin’s dressed-up outfit, particularly the brown boots that are so difficult to see in the show – apparently, they have green laces to go with the green jumper (the attention to detail truly is amazing), the Payne crest on his notebook, and the ironing board as a makeshift desk. Also has some sleepy Raffy in the background.

About playing characters with dual ages.
Transcript under the read more...
Transcript:
Jayden: Hello, Pip!
Jayden: Thank you so, so much for requesting a cameo from me and George, we really appreciate all your support of the show, and we are eternally grateful for being able to do this for you. So, you have said, "I adore how you portray Charles and Edwin and their friendship, thank you both. I watch Dead Boy Detectives for the PLOT: Pretty Lads Overcoming Trauma."
George: That's exactly what the acronym's for.
Jayden: That is the plot.
George: Well, I'm not sure about the pretty part.
Jayden: Well... well...
George: But lots of trauma.
Jayden: "How was it, playing characters with dual ages, who are simultaneously teenagers but also decades/a century older?"
Jayden: Well, what were our ages in the show? We worked it out. If we were alive in the show you would've been...
George: A hundred and twenty-three.
Jayden: And I would've been...
Both: Forty-eight!
[Both laugh]
Jayden: I mean... I mean, for me, it was super easy because obviously my parents kind of grew up around that era so I just kind of slipped into their shoes while I playing the character and, I mean, playing sixteen was just... I dunno, shave as much as you can.
George: Every. Day.
Jayden: And keep drinking water so your skin doesn't dry up.
George: True.
Jayden: What about you, playing a hundred and twenty-three?
George: Well, I've felt old for years.
Both, in a hoarse voice: It's been eighty-four years...
George: I... I would say, like to kind of make a long story short, a lot of the outer of Edwin I could play as the sort of 1916, well he died then, but his sort of inner is like a sixteen year old, so that was kind of the main distinction. But it was really fun to play and sort of figure out which scenes, or which beats, I'd want to honour kind of the 1900s really, the Edwardian era one versus the 2023 one.
Jayden: We got to really play about with that, didn't we?
George: Yeah.
Jayden: There was definitely scenes where I think the eras that our characters were from like really showed.
George: Yes.
Jayden: And then there were other times where you can clearly see that these are just two sixteen year old boys.
George: Yeah, I think that was such a unique thing about the show, cause it's set in the modern day context, seeing them kind of react to modern day things, like how Charles reacts to someone like Crystal, or like...
Jayden: Or how Edwin reacts to someone like Crystal!
[Both laugh]
George: True! Or like how they react, like episode 5 was so fun because we got to see what a modern day high school was like.
Jayden: We got to see what an Edwardian boy wandering around a modern school was like.
George: True. And so did our disguises.
Jayden: Yeah.
George: Shout out to Vince and Lauren... the fish are washing away the runes!
[Both laugh]

Well, side-eyeing Twitter, that's insane.
Catch me checking Instagram once an hour to make sure George is still there ✌🏻
Also don't be terrible to actors please use common sense. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it. Or keep it to DMs. Jesus fucking Christ.
#i knew this was going to be a shitshow because a specific subsection of the fandom is unhinged#and they are not georges fans that were involved in gameo week which was such a chill and fun time#not jaydens fault at all but he has some WEIRD fans who need to shape the fuck up

One of my favorite Gameos. George’s peptalk to Tami is encouraging to me, as well. Particularly his comfort-zone metaphor.
Thanks, Tami, for sharing his kind words to you with the rest of us🖤
"Here is my cameo from George Rexstrew!!! I asked for a pep talk to get me out performing more. He was so kind!
#DeadBoyDetectives #SaveDeadBoyDetectives"
I'm introverted so it can be challenging to perform my music for people. I would like a pep talk about having the courage to perform more.
Featuring some kids absolutely howling outside the window.
