1) What's their favorite drink to order? Unsurprisingly, it's vodka and tequila, but she'd be happy with any kind of carbonated and/or alcoholic drinks.

2) What is their grooming routine? Azamuku doesn't enjoy showering due to her being a cat and how shower heads have clusters of holes in them. Since she's in a digital world, she doesn't really have to care about her hygiene. (She only really gets clean when Carnival grooms her himself)

3) What is their most expensive purchase/ where does their spending money go to? Azamuku doesn't have money in the digital world, but when she was human, she'd mostly get only foods and drinks that she could get her hands on. (None were alcoholic since she was underaged at the time) If she were to buy anything now, it'd probably be a gift for her Ragatha.

4) Do they have any tattoos/scars? No tattoos as a digital character and as a human, but as a human, she had a lot of scars to say the least.

5) What was the last time they cried, under what circumstance? She was very drunk and felt severely homesick. It was fairly resent, but she doesn't cry often.

6) Are they oldest, middle, youngest, or only child? She has an older brother, so she's the youngest child. (She hasn't seen her brother since she was 17.)

7) Describe the shoes they're wearing? None. She's barefoot. (It was difficult to wear shoes when she was a human right before she was sucked into the digital circus)

8) Describe the place where they sleep? She doesn't currently have her own room, but her old digital room was an absolute disaster. Tears in the walls, some poorly patched up holes in the walls, (because of Jax's antics) the floor was damaged, and it only got worse after she abstracted the first time.

9) What's their favorite holiday? None. She doesn't even know what a holiday is.

10) What objects do they carry with them? The most random things. They'll either be very useful for the adventure, or they'd make things even worse, no in-between.

So my problem with most ‘get to know your character’ questioneers is that they’re full of questions that just aren’t that important (what color eyes do they have) too hard to answer right away (what is their greatest fear) or are just impossible to answer (what is their favorite movie.)  Like no one has one single favorite movie. And even if they do the answer changes.

If I’m doing this exercise, I want 7-10 questions to get the character feeling real in my head. So I thought I’d share the ones that get me (and my students) good results: 

What is the character’s go-to drink order? (this one gets into how do they like to be publicly perceived, because there is always some level of theatricality to ordering drinks at a bar/resturant)

What is their grooming routine? (how do they treat themselves in private)

What was their most expensive purchase/where does their disposable income go? (Gets you thinking about socio-economic class, values, and how they spend their leisure time)

Do they have any scars or tattoos? (good way to get into literal backstory) 

What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances? (Good way to get some *emotional* backstory in.) 

Are they an oldest, middle, youngest or only child? (This one might be a me thing, because I LOVE writing/reading about family dynamics, but knowing what kinds of things were ‘normal’ for them growing up is important.)

Describe the shoes they’re wearing. (This is a big catch all, gets into money, taste, practicality, level of wear, level of repair, literally what kind of shoes they require to live their life.)

Describe the place where they sleep. (ie what does their safe space look like. How much (or how little) care / decoration / personal touch goes into it.)

What is their favorite holiday? (How do they relate to their culture/outside world. Also fun is least favorite holiday.) 

What objects do they always carry around with them? (What do they need for their normal, day-to-day routine? What does ‘normal’ even look like for them.)

The Last of Us 2 is coming to f<3ck up my feelings and destroy me both mentally and phisically. Too bad I can’t afford it yet, to play myself (it’s like, 65$ bucks here for an online copy...And I’ve put my savings into trying to build like a shelf for my whole PS & TV combo and for rats’s cage...), but I’ve watched the first part of Sean’s (Jacksepticeye) letsplay and I already CRIED like a baby, even though no one died yet. I have my suspicions about where the story may be going to, I hope I am wrong, but I feel like I’m not. Of course, we’ll see, when we’ll see.
