SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT BullTaurus

Right after I built this one, I found the DX, mint, for $80. How could I not? This thing, apart from being good in its own right, really reminded me of why the original, despite being simple, was so fun. BoonBoomger Robo tried to have that wow factor with its Gate Mode, but I feel like Jyuoh King was the last Megazord to pull it off. Gimmicks don't always have to be complex, like MagiLegend or GokaiOh. Sometimes a simple trick is all you need to make a toy feel magical.

The Good: Like I was saying, it recreates the gimmick from the original: by spinning the wrists and ankles, it extends the limbs and reveals the hands. Actually getting to assemble those parts and see how they work was super cool, too.

And while the posability isn't as good as GingaiOh, it's still very good. I'd even say the ankles are better, and how it's done is very clever. BullBlack also has fairly good posability, though its smaller stature makes its a bit harder to pose and balance.

And it comes with a very handy display stand. It's capable of housing all the additional weapon parts for BullTaurus, all the Super Armor parts for both GingaiOh and Victory Mars, as well as a round handle for the Silver-Armor Sword so BullTaurus or Victory Mars can wield it.

The Bad: Because they had to add a waist joint, BullBlack has to fold up into a ball to fit into GoTaurus. I mean, you don't even need to put him in to transform anything, so it doesn't really matter, but it would have been cool if they'd have found a way to put it in without doing so.

The sword also could be better? The new handle is kinda meant for Victory Mars, but it would have been nice if it also fit BullTaurus, because it's quite loose. Not just in the hand, but also in the sword, itself. The new hilt for the Super Silver-Armor Sword also has the Gingaman logo on one side, and the GoGoV logo on the other, which is a little strange. I'm not saying they needed to make 2 hilts, but it forces you to flip the blade around so the right side is facing forward when displaying it.

The Details: A added a bunch of extra colors not present on the original. There are a bunch of thick grooves all over the place which I was driven to fill in. There's quite a bit of panel lining on the non-black parts, and I replaced all the stickers with paint.

For new colors, and BullBlack, I added gold to the black of the hands, red to the chest, hips, and thighs, and gold to the toes to mimic BullTaurus' hooves to some degree. For BullTaurus, I added red to the forearms, skirt, and calves, silver to the knees and legs and the GoTaurus's teeth, and gold to both GoTaurus and BullTaurus' faces and the back of the hands. I also added some gold and silver to the different weapons.

Overall, another great build. I'm not sure if I'd suggest getting it without first having GingaiOh, but if you get it first, you'll still have fun.

Deception Sentai Combatger!

So I made an outfit for Bruticus in Sentai robo/Megazord colors cus it sounded funnier in my head. Sadly, it doesn't seem funny to the rangers from Megaranger/In Space, who look a bit annoyed with the Combaticons for their daily Decepticon shenanigans. Meanwhile, Bruticus tries to turn Shockwave into a gun before they get smoked.

Galaxy Mega from Denji Sentai Megaranger

It wasn't uncommon holding down the fort while the other's were somewhere else. The astro megaship was in desperate need of repairs to continue fighting against Dark Specter's forces and to even allow them further travel to continue their search for Zordon. However, the near constant attacks on earth have hindered them, put far too many in danger and have led to far too many restless nights with no true relief. Even still, what he couldn't do on his home planet he refuses to let happen again here on Earth of all places. It's this determined mindset that has him felling quantrons left and right, in this galactic war the forces of evil and good raged, there was more casualties everyday and he aimed to make it more and more costly for the enemy than his allies and those he swore to protect. Silently chanting that mantle, that oath in his mind as he makes quick work of most of the group. Albeit they are not his target, that would belong the colossal monster ripping through the city! He could only do so much without a megazord at the moment and the delta ship was with the others. Thus he'd been rushing around, trying to get any unlucky civilians out of danger. What catches his attention is the flash of something, a squadron of quantrons rushing towards someone. An unlucky civilian blocked from an exit by falling rubble, he pivots sharply.

"Galaxy Glider Hang Ten!" Leaping from the ground to the surfboard-like device capable of jet propelled flight, he rushes right towards the poor civilian. A gloved hand gripping onto the rather bulky man and hoisting him over the front of the glider before making his way forward, however he barely dodges the giant monsters foot come crashing into the pavement in front of him. The galaxy glider's jets scream with the shattering of metal as the lower back is crushed, sent flying forward he wraps his arms around the person he'd just saved, intent on taking most of the impact with the oncoming building with his own body. Through the window, glass shatters around him and he can feel shards bounce off his suit as he lays there. Despite the suit helping with and improving most life functions and boosting him to super human levels, all this was wearing him down. He's sprawled across the floor of the building and the person he'd saved isn't far either, albeit in a much better state than he'd expect. Although...

"Hey." His throat feels dry but he manages the words, the speech filter on his helmet kicking into gear just in case. "You need to get out of here. There's an emergency bunker two blocks from here, you'll see a lot of people heading there."

SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT Gingaioh

Even though I was pretty meh on the GaoRanger SMP kits, I do have a few reasons for picking up the Gingaman kits. The first is that while it wouldn't be very hard to get the DX versions of Gingaioh or BullTauros (in fact, having this kit made me really want to track the DX down; such a fun design), GingaRhinos and GingaPhoenix are a different story. Because those two have a lot of small part and breakage issues, getting a good DX is ludicrous. And while I handled Gingaioh and BullTauros as a child, I've never had the other two in-hand, and would love a chance to experience them. The second reason is, oddly, scale. There are actually two Zords that have never been produced at full size; Bakuryu Brachiosaurus and GingaBitus. If you're unfamiliar with the latter, you may know it better as the Zenith Carrierzord, the big shark robot that deployed GingaRhinos and GingaPhoenix. It was never produced at a comparative scale, and I'm hoping that if they do produce it in this line that they'll fix it.

The Good: I've mentioned before that I enjoy builds like this, where it's several smaller builds that you then combine, and this one was no exception. While there are a few tiny changes, like how the legs lock, the combination is accurate to the original, while also adding a lot of posability. They even recreated Gingalcon's gimmick where you pull its tail and its wings fond simultaneously. While the posability is very simple, it achieves basically everything you'd need, and Gingaioh is capable of a lot of action poses. It's been a desk toy for a while.

Also, the original stored its fists inside Gaorilla's heels, and this one does so too. However, because of the proportion changes, if can actually fit both sets of hands in there, making it self-contained apart from the sword.

The Bad: It mostly comes down to changes to the proportions. Gingaverick and Gingat's back legs are skinnier, so they don't look as nice as the back of the arms, they both also have a small bit at the elbow bend to hide the split, but it would have looked nicer if it was thicker, and Gingarilla, while it would have been difficult to integrate, could have used that same type of bit inside its knees to improve the appearance of certain poses.

The Details: Apart from basic panel lining and fill, I replaced all but two of the stickers with paint. There were also a few areas on the legs where I added a bit of extra silver to match the existing details. I also used the blue stickers specifically on the skirt because I didn't want to bother fighting blue and silver paint there.

I should add, the plastic they used for these kits is very absorbent, and panel liner stains it if you don't wipe it off the excess almost immediately. So be quick, be careful, and maybe have a scraping tool on hand if you use ink at all on this one.

Overall, a much more fun kit than the GaoRanger kits. I've also built BullTauros at this point, which was another fun kit to work with. It has a few issues when transforming the sculpt into a posable one, but that's the only real issue it has. If you like Gingaman or Lost Galaxy, this is a great alternative to tracking down the original DX.

1 - i absolutely love how all over the place they are about emulating Gingaman's I C O N I C running. They kinda sorta do it sometimes but no one ever seems committed to it and its so fucking funny. Like an embarrassed kid not wanting to play "yes and" in front of his friends in drama class. Delightful.

2 - Endlessly amused by Mike's Aura Changer. Ki ryoku tenshin. Mike of the heavenly ring star. Cow Ranger.

3 - They only ever use the washed out/thrown overboard/kinda dead Bucrates suit for Kegler (they dont actually use ANY Gingaman footage for this character isnt that fun)

4- The Gingaman Yartotos: baby boy, baby. The Lost Galaxy Swabbies: evil. Its the eyes man, why are they looking at me like that

5 - what's up with the big ass scar on Captain Mutiny's chest?? It's cool and makes him look like a battle hardened pirate but also he never had this in Gingaman (not even in the megaranger crossover) and i wanna know how it happened

6 - Magna Defender comes back as a ghost and tells Mike to kill himself this has nothing to do with anything i just think its so fucking funny.

7 - these poor suits are absolutely wrecked lmao i wonder if thats one of the reasons Mike never does anything. the texture on the magna defender suit is making me feel like i need to wash my hands

9 - Are the Torozord, Centaurus and Stratoforce Megazords not sentient??? Like, they are just as self aware as the other galactabeasts right?????? WHY DID ABSOLUTELY NO ONE FUCKING CARE WHEN THEY ALL GOT BLOWN UP??????????? none of them appear in the crossover so I'm making the assumption that they died for good and NO ONE. CARED. is the Zenith Carrierzord ok? does he miss them????? this actually hurt my feelings tbh

10 - this is THE BIGGEST nitpick i have and really it doesnt affect anything and i'm only upset because of how much i love Hyuuga but

Mike suddenly just HAVING THE KNIGHT AXE fucking gutted me. I lost count of the amount of times this team suddenly had a new weapon at their disposal with no explanation and typically this kinda shit doesnt bother me but you CANNOT just give the Defender Torozord this FUCKING AXE. this axe is so important to Hyuuga's character and story arc and Mike just fucking pulls it out of his big cow ass, uses it like twice, and then blows up the Torozord. IN FACT, I DONT THINK HE EVEN USES IT OUTSIDE OF THE MEGAZORD.

ALSO. dont use the close ups of the Defender Torozords head moving around like he's talking if you arent goiNG TO LET HIM ACTUALLY TALK he looks so silly

The Rangers show up at his doorstep a few tomes a month, stay maybe a night or two, and then are gone as if they'd never been there at all.

As of today, they'd been at Bulk's apartment for a week. Bulk knows it has to do with the Pink Ranger being replaced. All three had gone in a week ago with shock and agony written on their faces and in their eyes.

Currently, Kai and Leo are curled up together in the arm chair, Kai across Leo's lap - which is a far cry from how Lost Galaxy Blue used to nervously stand almost at parade rest and sit ramrod straight. Damon's passed out on the couch in a white undershirt and green boxers because he'd tried to bake and it had ended up with dirty overalls and the smoke detector going of for almost 45 minutes.

Lost Galaxy Pink isn't here, Maya had mumbled something about how Karone needed to call her brother, and Bulk let that go.

Speaking of Lost Galaxy Yellow, Bulk hasn't seen her in a few minutes. Bulk looks around and doesn't find Maya. He knows exactly where she'll be.

Grabbing a bowl from the cabinet and spooning some of the broth he'd made earlier that week into it, Bulk carefully begins making his way up to the roof. He gets up there, almost spilling the bowl and thanking God Skull had gotten Billy to teach them some self defense to assist in quickening their reflexes. Sure enough, there she is.

Maya sits at the edge of the building, looking out into Terra Venture with the saddest eyes Bulk has ever seen on a Ranger.

"Hey," Bulk says.

Maya doesn't startle, doesn't move.

"I know you said you weren't hungry," he continues. She'd come in from the Megazord fight exhausted and gloomy, looking two steps from death, declined dinner, and then disappeared. "But, I made you something anyway."

Maya gives a little smile, not looking up. Then her face falls. "How do you do it?" she asks, whisper soft.

Bulk raises an eyebrow. "Do what?" he asks.

Maya looks up at Bulk, eyes watery and puffy, as if she'd been crying for hours. "How do you go on without your best friend?"

And, oh, there isn't a day that goes by Bulk doesn't miss Skull so much. He'd gone with Terra Venture expecting Skull to come with, but Skull hadn't gotten up and in their rush, Bulk and the Professor had forgotten him.

"Well," Bulk says, "It's not easy. But we chat daily, so that helps. I may take the trip back at some point."

Maya nods. Then her eyes fill with tears. "I'm sorry," she whispers, covering her face with one hand.

Bulk is shocked for a few minutes, then as Maya starts to sob in earnest, Bulk sits next to her, sets the soup to the side, and wraps an arm around Maya's shoulders. She turns so she cries into Bulk's shoulder.

Bulk holds Maya, lets her cry, and pats her shoulder. "Nothing to be sorry for," he murmurs back.

I would have used it to honor the different eras.
