January 24 2024 Scam Alert:
There's a new phishing email making the rounds that looks like an authentic message from Google, warning you that unless you take action your Gmail account will be closed and all your messages deleted. All you have to do is click the link to confirm or deny the action.
It is, of course, fake. It collects your password "for verification" then hijacks your account.
Don't click any link in an email no matter how official it looks. Instead, go to your Gmail dashboard directly. If there is indeed any risk Google wants to delete your account, you'll be notified there.

Bad Google behavior of the day:
I search my Gmail account for the word "Biolage" (it's a shampoo, and I want to see if I can figure out how long ago I got the bottle in the cabinet). Gmail returns 4 results using the term "Biolage", and also many hundreds of emails I have sent or received containing the word "matrix." Because the shampoo is manufactured by a company called "Matrix".
Matrix is a word more-commonly-used in other contexts; and a person searching their own email for Product Name is probably not going to also want results for Parent Corporation Name, even in situations in which that name is NOT a moderately-common fucking noun. But Google doesn't care, because Matrix buys ads from them and presumably pays them to link these terms together and such.
Anyway, you have to put terms in quotes to prevent Gmail from playing corporate word-association games intended to drive ad revenue in unrelated Google products.
