Things @the-paper-apricot has pointed out to me since I posted this essay:

Paul had the lobby and a hallway of the Strand Palace Hotel re-carpeted with his own custom carpet for a few brief scenes in GMTBS

The poem "Leisure" by William Henry Davies (which is misquoted by Jim in the upper floor of the Old Justice) contains the phrase "no time" in every stanza. Jim's room is chock full of clocks. (I'll be making another post about the clocks in GMRTBS).

Give Some Regard to Broad Street

Paul McCartney's 1984 film Give My Regards to Broad Street received mixed reviews, and its reputation has only gone downhill from there.

In this essay (available on ao3) @i-am-the-oyster hopes to convince you that this film is actually very poignant, and worth a deeper look.

The image above is an illustration by @the-paper-apricot of Paul's hawaiian shirt, which features prominently in the movie.

We both would have liked to name the essay That's It, You're Finished (What are you going to do now?). But that name would only make sense if you already know the movie well, or have read the essay.

can you explain more about the ch*rdee thing in misses the boat?

imma try my best, man

ok gonna try to quickly summarize my other post then discuss some other things: 

essentially. the facts of what happened in gang misses the boat (as solidified by by time’s up) is that in the off-screen ch*rdee sex scene, dee was manipulating charlie, as she does most men, into sleeping with her and using him to get off herself, not caring much for his squirming & inability to just let her get off.  then later she tries to defend herself, as she typically tries to when things like this go off her intended course, and also the fact that it was a r*e per se explains why charlie was so skittish after. mostly i just wanted to restate the facts so everyone would unwillingly acknowledge that it happened at all. 

now if i can remember what i thought of earlier... 

it was smth along the lines that partially why it’s so wild that it happened was that there was literally no other signs of attraction that would make them desire each other. like at most there was the slight hinting towards physically consummating in charlie rules the world but it was one-sided and a bit weird itself quite frankly. i mean perhaps they were just saying fuck it because of their proximity and nobody else in the gang being there to hold them back. but at the same time, charlie is one to be quick on making fun of her and whoever slept with her yet does it himself in that ep? it’s uhh interesting to say the least

now i’m thinking about the implications of the appearances of other guys dee has slept with. really the only conventionally attraction guys she’s slept with off the top of my head have been rex and mike (who is after gmtb), all the others being... not so much. in which i almost feel like it says something about how she and everyone else views charlie’s looks. i think we can all agree he’s a good looking guy, even if some just say it’s in a rat way, but also it’s safe to say that the gang almost. perceives his appearance as gross, at least somewhat. perhaps in projecting his odd habits to be a reflection of his image or just not finding him conventionally attractive, idk. but given dee’s tendencies, it just feels like she’s calling him out and indirectly comparing him to someone such as bill ponderosa or uhh whatever the manager from gang broke dee’s name was. 

which, going off that last thought, tyler and i have agreed that she most likely uh body shamed him this during incident too. she’s already body shamed him before (charlie goes america on everybody’s ass, she called him a short fat person & chunky) and it seemed to stick in his subconscious (dennis and dee’s mom is dead, he says he’s the funny fat person). and seeing his full body (presumably) would give her all the more reason to shame him if she wanted to. on a trans note, she’d probably shame his uh,, parts,, as if he didn’t already feel gross about them being touch (really need to stop going into the dark canon tyler and i’s dark disgusting shared brain cell has come up with, at least on main) 

i’m sure there’s more i could talk about on this whole thing if i thought of smth or if yall want a specific opinion on an aspect of it
