Oh ok. I get now why a lot of people didn't vibe with the ending.

All and all: excellent manga, overall very good final act, too rushed final 2-3 chapters but weak and honestly mediocre epilogue, which makes the high of the ending kind of leave a bitter taste. I think Noda had a good steed and suddenly he had to finish and had to rush all. So the ending in the sense of the final arc was good but the ending proper (final couple chapters) + epilogue......... Not so much

Sat too long in my feelings about the Gotham Knights video game Jason Todd going to therapy and trying to engage with his siblings from a place of healing and hurt myself, so now I'm inflicting this on all of you, but:

Do you ever think about how Jason only ever gets to experience Dick as an extension of the breakdown of Dick and Bruce's relationship at that time? Granted, depending on the comic era, Dick maybe doesn't show up as much as he should, or Jason acts like an antagonistic little shit, but overall, Dick's falling out with Bruce overshadows all of it.

And, like, yeah, it's funny to joke that only Jason knows that Dick went through a shitbag teenage phase and that no one ever believes him. (Gaslight, Gate Keep, Gotham ✌) And Jason is irate about it because how can they not see through what is clearly The World's Best Big Brother Act? How can no one else see it's fake?

(Unless it's not fake, and Jason just wasn't worth loving... No, fuck off, he doesn't care, he doesn't. Leave him alone.)

But at the same time, what if Jason's the only one who realizes it's a trauma response?

What if Jason's in the middle of a therapy session or reading one of the self-help books we see him ordering, and he just has to take a moment to breathe because, of course, it's a fucking trauma response. Of course, it is.

Dick's not pretending to be anything. He was, in fact, so severely affected by Jason's death that he over-corrected and now refuses to let himself be anything other than the Perfect Big Brother. Because he can't. Because when he's not perfect, when he's not there for them, they die.

Suddenly the golden retriever's cheerfulness is less grating and more worrying. Dick's need for perfection is less an annoying personality trait to compete with and more an exhausted cry for help that no one else seems to see. Not even Dick.

Because Jason realizes now that he might have never managed to live up to the Golden Boy mantle, but Dick will never get to put it down, either. Because he can't let himself. Because bad shit happens when he does.

So what if that's what he hopes Dick reads between the lines in the email he sends him in GK?

What if, by saying, "Hey, I realize now trying to hold myself to your standards was damaging my relationship with you, but I need you to know it wasn't your fault," was also Jason saying, "Hey, this shit isn't healthy are you fucking okay?"

Okay, so I’m a fan of Brain Dead - these two overworked boys who need hugs, melatonin, and to sleep in a comfortable pillow fort while wrapped in soft blankets like burritos (bonus points if it’s actual tortilla-pattern blankets) - and I’m also a fan of petty revenge like -

Tim accidentally getting married to Ghost King Danny because Red Robin got captured and used as a sacrifice by a cult to summon the Ghost King to reign destruction but mishap someone forgot to read up on their runes so the “sacrifice” was actually a “sacrificial bride”, meaning magical contract between GK!Danny and Tim.

And Danny, when he gets summoned and realizes what happened, is like, nope. Takes down the cultists, does abscond with Red Robin just to explain the situation and how right now, the dude is his Queen Consort or co-king because magically enforced marriage at least they don’t have to copulate that would have been even worse. And Tim is just computer crashing as he gets an information dump on how one, there’s another realm that’s, two, filled with dead people who, three, is ruled by a guy his age and who, four, Tim is now married to because, five, cultists really need to do their hOMEWORK WHAT THE HELL -

And did I mention that the contract lets them know no secrets between them? So Danny knows who Tim is meaning he knows who the Batfam is but that’s okay since Tim knows who Danny is and oh wow that explains a lot about Jason now with the ecto-contamination by impure ectoplasm -

And Tim really doesn’t want to tell the Batfam what happened since he still has insecurities regarding his place in the family which isn’t helped by their treatment - and Danny is seething because him and Tim actually get along pretty well as friends and Tim has quickly worked his way into Danny’s Obsession of Protecc because Danny will always protect those he cares about and he doesn’t like how Tim gets treated especially when it came to learning about Tim’s missing spleen.

Now here’s the funny part of this AU - because of the marriage contract between Danny and Tim, Tim gets the perks of being Queen Consort/co-king in having power over ectoplasmic beings, so when Jason’s going in on Tim who has been stressed from the situation despite Danny and Tim’s new friends in Sam, Tucker, Valerie, Jazz, and Dani (and Dan if you want to include him) doing their best to help him destress which he greatly appreciates, is still operating on little to no sleep, AND just found out that somebody replaced his extra strong coffee with decaf, Jason who calls Tim “Replacement” one last time -

“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Tim snarled at Jason, his eyes glowing a scarily familiar green to the Batfam. Jason’s own eyes began to glow green in response, but instead of his feeling angry, the Pits encouraging him to hurt, Jason can feel the Pits actually COWERING back instead this time, and an incredible urge to not say another peep.

Meanwhile the rest of the Batfam is also freaking out because holy shit when did Tim take a dip in the Pits?!

BRADNATE!!!!!!! What couldn't I say about bradnate???? They're probably one of my only eternal otps, like I haven't watched GK in 4 years but I'll think about bradnate and still get a warm and fuzzy feeling in my chest. They have some of the most well written, high quality, meaningful fics I've ever read, like I'm ngl, they've literally affected my life in certain ways 😭

"I'm assured of this" x "Sir, your leadership is the only thing I have absolute confidence in." That mutual trust, and the way they can rely on each other, under such terrible circumstances, it's so!! And the dynamic of Brad, this incredibly independent, almost standoffish, shit-talking guy being able to trust and confide in the younger Nate because he respects and recognizes, the much more straightlaced, academic, Nate's leadership and that he's doing his best and is actually adept, especially compared to most of the higher leadership. They both trust that the other is working at full capacity and doing their best to look out for the other. Their relationship bridges the gap between the enlisted men and the COs, who have trouble trusting and respecting each other, and it's such an efficient, trusting partnership in the midst of the mess that is the invasion of Iraq.

Anyways, LOOK AT THEM GRRRRR

Stark Sands is such a pretty boy it makes me insane, and Alex Skarsgard is so rugged in comparison, and imo subvert who you'd expect to be higher on the leadership totem pole. I love how efficient they both are, they are truly a power couple to me !!! And also as we've talked about, the blueprint of newer ships like ghostsoap. Bradnate walked so ghostsoap could run.....

Ungifted: 11/10

I'm very biased here but I genuinely love this book. It's definitely doesn't have as that interesting of a premise compared to other books, but this book is the one that truly made me love Gordon Korman books. Also almost everyone is neurodivergent in this book

Supergifted: 6/10

The sequel to ungifted. A lot less neurodivergency. It focused a lot more on noah than donovan (I love noah, don't get me wrong, but still) and everyone was so mean to donovan in the book. Here's a list of all the NICE things people did for him in the book

Numbers 2-5 happened in the LAST 3 CHAPTERS. Noah was extremely flanderized and all the characters from the previous book became bg characters. GK brought a bg character as a big character and he fucking sucks. No one likes you, Brad, shut up about the god damn corps. It gets a 6 bc it's ungifted. Hopefully Gordon Korman does better in the next book 🙏

Schooled: 7/10

Nice book. Not much to say about it. Capricorn is kind of bland even though he's supposed to be interesting. There's a kind of weird age gap CRUSH (very important) and a big power imbalance between two characters (bully and victim). There's another book called Old School that sounds like it's a rewrite of this book. If Gordon takes out/rewrites the weird crush and sociopathic school traditions and bullies, I'll be fine. This is the first book I read by GK so I might also be biased here.

Restart: 8.5/10

Made me really sad. I think this is one of the few books where a character cries so it got points for that. I fucking hate frank ambrose.

Whatshisface: 9/10

Oh my god I love this book. Cooper Vega might be the best and most relatable character in a Gordon Korman book. This book pulled at my heart strings. It has a much less realistic plot but it's still amazing. Roderick Northrop is my little baby. I am his parent now. It also opens up to a lot more aus.

The Unteachables: 8/10

A very sweet book. Another book where none of the characters are neurotypical. Mateo is VERY clearly autistic.

Unplugged: 8/10

Also cool. It gets WILD nearing the end. I can't talk about how good this book is without spoiling it 💔

The Superteacher Project: 8/10

This book is sweet and has an interesting premise. It kind of pisses me off bc it was written to be suspenseful and you're supposed to be surprised when it's revealed that aidact is a robot (if you haven't already guessed) BUT IT WAS SPOILED IN THE SYNOPSIS

Slugfest: 7/10

One of my least favorites. It's not as interesting as the other books and it was kind of boring. It's based around PE class so y'know

Slacker: 8/10

It was pretty hard to read at first bc it was really slow. It picks up the pace around the middle. The main character kind of sucks but it's in a good way y'know?

Level 13: 9/10

HOLY SHIT THIS WAS INSANE. This is slacker's sequel. The first book was about a gamer boy who's forced to help people with his fake club. This book is about the same kid getting STALKED AND HARRASSED by a GROWN MAN and the boy gets HOSPITALIZED. went from 0 to 100 real quick.

Linked: 8/10

This book was dark but it really was a good book. All of the kids were very realistic (for better or for worse.) Most of the characters have some problems that still aren't fixed/bettered at the end of the story. Tw for racism and white supremacy in this book.

Mixed-Up: 8.5/10

Very gay. Also a book with obviously fictional themes. Another book I cant get too much into without spoiling 😭 Deals with greif and parental death/being orphaned.

Operation Do-Over: 9/10

First off, the main character is dead. Maybe. We don't actually know bc it's left up to the reader but it's universally agreed upon that he's dead and time traveled. Good book. Wish GK showed more of Ty and Mason's friendship beyond them falling apart. I know there was that one chapter that talks about how much they cared about each other but it was all talk. No showing.

The Fort: 10/10

The might be the darkest Gordon Korman book ever. Most of the children are suffering at home and they don't deserve it (bc they're children obviously) so it really brings out my parental instincts. Tw for mentions of drug use, and depictions of domestic violence (both against a spouse and a child)

Notorious: 8/10

I am literally zeebee tice. uhhh it's kind of boring at first but it gets a big better. mainly near the end tho... I'm only really giving it an 8 bc of the main characters they're awesome. Especially zeebee. I'm zeebee. Uhh warning for mentions of crime? Also warning for possible animal murder and stalking.

Faker: 9/10

ANGST!! YAY!! Daddy issues seem to be very relevant in Gordon Korman's books. It took me a bit to get into the book but probably not for others. I also don't understand money or scams so it probably could've been a 9.5 if I did.

What Happened To Your Band? - Danny's Version

Danny didn’t realise how hard winning I’m A Celebrity would be.

Sure, he wanted to win for his son, Cooper, and he was over the moon that he was actually able to conquer the challenge.

But what he wasn’t prepared for were the press questions.

Danny hadn’t been interviewed since the split. None of the boys had. They put out a vague statement on all of their social media accounts announcing the breakup, but that was it.

All four of them had refused to speak to the press about it.

Luckily, they had managed to escape the requests for interviews, until Danny went on I’m A Celeb.

Ant and Dec never asked questions and neither did their team. Danny’s manager had asked them not to.

However, that didn’t stop his campmates from asking about it.

They had pushed a lot of questions about the reasoning behind the split, but Danny gave them vague non-answers like the four of the former McFly members had agreed.

The questions were all the same.

“Why did you guys break up?”

“What happened?”

“Did you fall out?”

They never changed.

Danny never deviated from the agreed script either.

No personal drama was to be brought up, and the break up was never to be discussed.

Never.

However, Danny’s script was forced to change when Oti asked her question.

“What was your favourite memory with the band?”

That stumped him.

No one ever wanted to know the happy things.

Only the juicy gossip.

Danny was lost for words.

“That’s a hard one.” He laughed, thinking hard about his answer.

Their first sold out tour?

Their first award?

He knew the answer, but it didn’t really answer the question.

The truth was, Danny didn’t have a favourite moment, because he loved all of it. Every second. Every high and every low.

He had grown up in McFly, much like the other boys.

In many ways, he would be nothing without McFly.

He met his three best friends and his wife through the band, and that had given him his greatest achievement, his son Cooper.

“Top three then.” GK Barry pushed.

Danny still wasn’t sure how to answer.

“I think writing Room on the Third Floor with Tom.” He answered, unable to pour his heart out on national television. “It was the first song we wrote together, just the two of us.”

A chorus of ‘awww’s erupted in camp.

He knew how to make a crowd react the way he wanted. It was baked into his blood.

“So, is Tom your best friend?” Oti asked.

Shit.

He didn’t want to answer the nice questions.

They were harder than the shitty drama-related ones.

Of course Tom was his best friend. They all were.

But for some reason, he just couldn’t admit it. Not after the break-up, and especially not when he knew the boys were probably watching him squirm answering the questions that were being fired at him.

“They all are.” He answered, unable to take the silence any longer. “They’re my brothers.”

Silence fell around camp.

His eyes began to water as he felt everyone looking at him.

Sure, they didn’t know what had happened, but they all knew McFly, which was something Danny has become all too aware of during his time in the jungle.

Danny didn’t know what else to say, so took himself off to go and sit by the creek instead.

It was hard admitting how he felt. He had always bottled up his emotions, and the prospect of letting everything out so publicly terrified him.

He didn’t want the boys to know how poorly he was handling the split, especially after six months of it happening.

Danny didn’t know what to do.

Should he pour his heart out on television in hopes that it would bring the other boys back into his life for a reunion? Or should he shut it out and get on with it?

Unease clung to his bones as he mulled over everything that happened whilst he was a part of McFly.

Writing Room on the Third Floor had been one of his favourite memories. But what about the rest of them?

When he confessed to believing that eggs were vegetables at breakfast whilst on tour.

When Dougie thought dreadlocks were a good look, but the rest of the guys found it too hysterical to say anything.

Tom’s iconic wedding speech, and how it was the first time that Danny had cried in front of so many people.

When Harry fell off of stage mid-show.

The McBusted era in its entirety. That was one of his favourite times.

When Tom vlogged tour, and Danny did whatever he could to ruin said vlog.

Writing Young Dumb Thrills after so long apart and it feeling like they  were never apart.

It was all coming back to him as he sat by the creek.

The highs.

The lows.

Everything.

On top of all of that, it began to dawn on Danny that he wasn’t too sure how to function without the existence of McFly in his life.

It had been the one constant for Danny.

Despite everything, McFly had always been there.

No matter what.

Sure their hiatus after McBusted had been painful, but they got back together in the end, and Danny embarked on his solo career.

But Danny didn’t think they would get back together.

Not this time.

It was too late.

McFly was gone.

and riffing off of that degree… nightwing vs. daredevil rivalry WHEN. they are parkour badasses. they’re street level heroes who are just regular guys. they have fantastic asses. dick you cannot also have a law degree you CANNOT TAKE MATT’S ONE THING— my running joke is that if dick shows up and he’s better than matt at everything, matt might have a Small Existential Crisis

also nepo baby dick is hiLArious considering that I have been thinking all day about how in a separate-universes world, everyone in Kate's world thinks he's a golddigger. The tabloids and gossip mags are so confused??? He's a stay at home boyfriend? He literally doesn't have a job. He basically doesn't even exist. Kate's always saying he's home visiting his family, or traveling. Is he a spy? Does he do crime? He didn't know who Captain America was, he's just a himbo. He absolutely could not be a spy. Dick LOVES this, I feel like. It's much funnier when people think that about him than when they think that about Kate (which is what happens when she goes to his universe)

There's a post from forever ago about someone who's supervisor called their partner "Boytoy" at work, like, exclusively. And the guy knew and was fine with it, but anyway he came in one day and the op went "Mr. Toy, I presume?" and he went "The very one." This is very much Dick and Kate. also somehow he meets Anthony Bourdain, and this is a Good Timeline where he's still alive and Dick winds up traveling with him for a few episodes? That would be a fun dichotomy

Kate turns her back for five seconds and Clint and Dick have gone undercover at a circus. Kate expected this from Clint, but Dick knows better. Which prompts Dick explaining that CLINT is the brains of the operation, not Dick, he's the beauty, and Clint getting mad because HE'S the beauty, and Kate just sighs. Clearly neither of you are the brains.

Dick loves that there are no expectations of him in Kate's universe. It's like a vacation. He gets to be a himbo here. There's absolutely a pic of them on insta that he captioned "this barbie is an Avenger. He's just ken" and he will not HEAR Kate's arguments about how technically by Barbie/Ken rules he is also a Barbie. Dick pouts and is like I AM KENOUGH.

All of this leads to a mostly funny conception the Avengers have of Dick. They know he's Nightwing, he doesn't really need a secret identity here, but they don't...get it. He's bouncy and casual because he's still watching Kate's teams, figuring out how best to support, and he doesn't want to step on Kate's toes by accidentally being Too In Charge. So there's this idea that he really IS a himbo until Kate gets injured or captured. If she gets injured on a mission he's on? Look. It clears things up right away. He will absolutely rip apart whatever faction or organization caused that to happen with his bare hands. And God for-fucking-bid he encounters the actual individual responsible for harming her. I'm not saying someone's getting kicked off of a roof but, someone is moving from the roof to the sidewalk in the most expedient way possible.

This is also funny because it makes very clear how different their preferred fighting styles are, because Kate picked A VERY DEFENSIBLE POSITION, please stop worrying, Dick. And she's right! It is! IF YOUR PREFERRED WEAPON IS RANGED.

Now Dick is standing over his mostly unconscious girlfriend who looks like her face got scraped against the ground (because it did), preparing to defend them from all sides. fucking snipers.

It also leads to a fun moment where Kate can't lead. Eli isn't there, so normally command of the team would slide into Cap's purview (if cap and whoever his second is are down, Avengers command would slide over to Kate) so Cap is getting ready to start giving the YA some orders and Dick, not even THINKING about it, just kind of assumes command of the young Avengers and NONE OF THEM QUESTION IT???? He doesn't lead like Kate. He doesn't give orders like Kate, he doesn't even sound like Kate, with cadence or whatever. But there's something that is just kate like enough that her team is like yep this is correct. (The same thing will happen in reverse with the titans) After that the Avengers stop roasting him behind Kate's back.

Also, THE HIP HOLES. look. We need to admit that Kate, canonically, does not have great taste in her avengering uniform. Why did she choose this look? why is she so attached to it?

5-fic self-rec!

Thanks for tagging me for this, @oluka (and the last line thing too except I had to pass on that one because I haven't written anything in a while other than the last excerpt I posted on here 😅).

Except for "Apricity," which is near and dear to my heart despite how much I itch to edit it (a constant issue I have with things I write), I went with some of my favorites that have flown under the radar.

Hm...this ended up more of a "hey, good job, me" post than a "I'm trying to find what's compelling about these fics to rec them" post. Oh well.

In order of publication:

Apricity (616 Steve/Tony, T, 1.5k)

My first fic on AO3! My first Steve/Tony fic! And somehow it was 616 instead of MCU. I love dark Steve, but I'm particular with how exactly he's unhinged and this is how I like him. Even-keeled despite being off his rocker. Rational in his own head. Soured on the world, but in a way that pushes who he is to the extremes so his core is still visible even if it's mottled with rot. And, of course, obsessed with Tony. I also like the tempo of this; I used to have a good grasp on tempo, but I feel like I've lost that a bit over the years.

Unraveled (Warrior (2011) gen fic, G, 1k)

Since it's a movie that doesn't have a lot of fanworks for it and it's a gen fic to boot, barely anyone has read this, but I don't care because it was written for a friend, @luxover. I love writing little stories to gift friends. If you haven't watched Warrior, watch it! Brutal tearjerker about a broken family and broken men and one of the few good sports movies out there. No, you don't need to know anything about MMA to enjoy it. I don't.

Okay, I should talk about this ficlet. I'm fond of this one because it's so different from my usual writing. It's stream-of-consciousness and entirely voice-driven like someone sat you down in Brendan's head and he's talking and talking even if he naturally isn't saying of this out loud. Because he and his brother Tommy are emotionally constipated; even if they love each other a lot, they don't know how to reach out to each other. They don't know if they're wanted. This also has one of my favorite last lines I've ever written. GUT PUNCH, if I do say so myself. ONE-TWO HIT, K.O. Sums up every layer of their relationship.

Hidden Declaration (Brad/Ray (Generation Kill), T, 728 words)

Another gift for a friend (the same friend)! Brad/Ray and MCU Steve/Tony share some similarities despite being drastically different, so is it any surprise I liked these two unhinged idiots? I never open for fic prompts, but this was when I was on a roll and then I got scared because lux asked for this. I never wrote for Gen Kill, I read maybe 3 GK fics in my life, and Ray is one of those characters who are impossible to write well imo (to be honest, I also feel the same way about Brad though the difficulty is subtler). He's an unusual guy with a very particular way of speaking.

And somehow this flowed out of me quickly. It's not without its flaws, but it was so different from what I usually write and how I do that it was really fun to write this! Very dialogue-heavy too which isn't what I'm known for. And the crassest (also...some language that's not okay as a warning, but if you know GK, it comes with the territory) and most sexual (it's still not very sexual lol) out of my fics. I think I captured how much they're best friends and they're so comfortable in each other's presence well. Plus I put a little wink for my friend at the end and it's one of the few times I like being indulgent with my writing. Also, tattoo fics are a trope and I guess this counts as my one tattoo fic though it's not an AU and there's no actual tattooing involved.

A Long, Final Rest Among the Stars (MCU Tony-centric/Nebula & Tony gen fic, G, 2.7k)

My tribute to best boy Tony, my first and ultimate love (along with Steve, of course) along with an expansion of the lovely bits of Nebula and Tony's tender friendship that we got to see in IW which I adored. They share a lot in common.

Writing this made me so sad because I felt like I was preparing to say goodbye to Tony. It made me reminisce about how it all started, and everything came full circle. His past is his present. Tony's trapped on a dark spaceship injured and far, far away from home. Tony's trapped in a dark cave injured and far, far away from home. There's a kind spirit with him, and even if they try to keep him alive, he's a dead man walking. But he's also come a long way from the man he used to be. I'M REALLY PROUD OF HIM, OKAY? I LOVE HIM.

The Burning of Flowers (616 Steve/Tony, G, 1.2k)

I secretly really, really wish more people read this fic. I wanted to write a Hanahaki AU for a while, but I couldn't figure out what I'd do that would feel fresh and then I came up with this subversion of sorts. Hanahaki AUs usually involve someone pining for their love and refusing to let go of it because it means so much to them. I thought I'd write about someone who doesn't have it—and simultaneously wants and doesn't want it—and wishes ill on the person he loves by hoping their love has it. And what better era to situate it than Hickmanvengers? You don't need to know Hickmanvengers to enjoy it, though.

I'm extremely proud of this one because it's one of the best fics I've written if I'm allowed to toot my own horn for a sec! Please let me because it's so rare for me to feel like I don't want to rip apart chunks of my fics and sew them back whole again, new and improved. I think this is one of my most complete fics in that way; I can probably tweak it, but I'm satisfied with nearly all of it if not all of it.

Anyway, I was in a slump and then suddenly the old magic returned and I slipped back into the writing style I used to have back in the mid-2010s except better. I could actually see that I've developed as a writer even if I'm still learning. But the atmosphere, the sensory lines, and the rhythm returned. I like the pace of this a lot and feel like it follows Steve's relentless rage, much like the unmoored, slower pace of "Apricity" reminds me of a colder Steve who never fully woke up from the ice.

d1 was second I told him I was here for the second time, which he thought was very sweet. hes so handsome irl that every time i see him i just blank. he asked what my fav song was and I panicked and said elevator. that is not technically a lie i do love elevator but its not my favorite lol

i also told harry june i was here for the second time and he was beaming and smiling. i dont remember what else was said lol especially for him and yuku. i just remember them being so cute.

as for junseo??? he was so talkative like i was surprised! he asked me about my nose piercing, if it hurt (i said no) and he was like (puppy eyes) i want one... i told him he should and he was like but :( my mom and dad :( it was just a nice convo

idr what i talked about with echan i just know that poor guy was so exhausted though

heechan was last and .. wow lmao he led the convo and he was like you have to make some noise for the concert and i said okay! and then he was like no try it now, so i actually yelled in front of him 😭 and he gave me a high five like he was so proud. i talked to a couple other bbs and they said he said the same thing to them but didnt make them yell, so of course it was only me making a fool out myself LOL

as for the concert, i really should have written more down, but the biggest take away is that i now love junseo (even more). my friend & i had front row seating (not barricade, but similar) and so we often made eye contact with the members (heechan especially kept looking at us lol)

anyway junseo clearly remembered me from the fansign so he also kept making eye contact & smiling at me, additionally during the teacher cover he turned towards me and did a polite bow (i almost cried) later during encore i bowed back to him & he seemed to get such a kick out of that lmao so for a brief moment we were just bowing over and over at each other it was so cute. then he high fived me and walked away. best interaction with an idol me thinks.

btw this video is right after we finished bowing at each other lol he came over to give us high fives. hes so cute ... the bear in his hair PLEASE

yuku is cute! simple enough statement but sooo true. the boys jumped from the stage and did the encore in the seats, so that was crazy but also i have a video of yuku coming up to me and giving me a high five. craziest cutest video ever btw.

thats about all but CRAZY good concert. enjoyed myself so much i hope we can see them a third time

d. what was a character arc in any of the shows that left you unsatisfied?

oh boy. but I will be truthful, and the answer might not come as a surprise for you: Crosby's arc. Even though Anthony Boyle is intensely charismatic, this character arc is very half-baked. The first half (which i consider from episode 1 to 6) is really nice. We get to see Crosby become more confident, and grow into his role as the group navigator. But then the writers decided to engage in the romantic sub-plot with Sandra that is character assassination to them both, and instead of letting him sit and ponder about the shitty things that happen, Crosby always get a verbal hug from his bff, Rosie. Which means he never have to really face his demons.

I can go on and on. But don't worry, I'll be writing another meta analysis about this stupid arc 🙃

Sledge and Snafu are two young guys who are fighting monster together and they are in love but don't know it yet and the psychic brain melt is making them crazy and now they engage in a co-dependent Co-pilots with benefits situation where they fuck and don't talk about their feeling.

And they are fighting giant monsters inside a Jeager named Dastard Queen that have a hidden blade (like Assassin's Creed, but with a giant robot) and a supersonic beam in the chest.

I have too much fun writing it, can't you see hahaha

Hoo boy! I'm still not at my reading goal today, the 28th! Let's go! This was a difficult selection, because I had a pretty interesting year.

Top 5

Mélusine by Sarah Monette. This author is truly the gift that keeps on giving. The Goblin Emperor is everything to me, and veering into her fucked up branch of fantasy works was the best decision I could have made. Those characters. That atmosphere. Violently engrossing. Please climb down into this Doctrine of Labyrinths hole with me.

Barrayar by Lois McMaster Bujold. This series is another one that has an iron grip on me. The main couple has more adult chemistry than I've ever seen in my life. And the author presented the worst, most violent man in the world and made me love him so intensely that I start shaking like a chihuahua if I think too hard about him.

The Wounds of Wisdom by Alex Roma. A golden find. I am gnawing at the bars of my cage for the sequels. Isolationist kingdoms? Fae? Dragons? Possibly time or reincarnation shenanigans?? Prince/knight dynamics.... It's got everything I've ever asked for, right there. I kiss the main trio on their foreheads. Love them. Can't wait to watch them suffer more.

A Lair of Bones by Helen Scheuerer. This is what YA magical contest books should strive to be. Because my girl Roh has a brain and she is not pure of heart. Nor should she be! There are real stakes here and no time to play around. The world and lore were especially fun with this one; Scheuerer has a gift for the release and timing of information.

Feathers So Vicious by Liv Zander. Everyone thank my romance/erotica reading friend for putting this on my radar. Many a novel has promised truly dark love interests; few have delivered. This was one of those few, the proud, the unhinged. I didn't know we were allowed to write this anymore, but I'm so glad Zander did.

Hunger Pangs by Joy Demorra. The ending of this book was so rushed that I honestly forgot I finished the whole thing. I assumed I had DNF'd it. But no, I read it all, including the ELEVEN unnecessary pages of legal waiver that turned me into a nun just prior to the sex scene.

Bound to the Fae King by Megan Van Dyke. What a disappointment this was! I adored the first book so much. I thought the author understood me and my desires. But then she produced a sequel that was exactly the same as the other bad boy fae romance books. Shallow smut with no danger or tension.

The Man Who Was Thursday by GK Chesterton. Me and GK are normally so tight. He was a man of great wit and wisdom. Funniest Catholic in known history. So what the hell was this...?

A Soul to Keep by Opal Reyne. What a slog. It was supposed to be Ancient Magus Bride erotica and ended up more like a woman sleeping with her puppy. Not what I'm here for! Boo! Where are the monsters!
