Hubris is in the process of being edited. A couple of thoughts on this.

1) GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2) AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!

3) Despite being absolutely stressed, I'm also excited because it hasn't had formal editing yet--just a little bit of beta reading here and there when I could bribe people with food or cigarettes, as well as me reading it over and over and over and over...and you just can't edit your own book and call it done.

The way this editing process will go, the current developmental editor will read through the story and make suggestions for fixing plot and readability issues (no grammar and spelling issues are fixed during developmental edits). Then there will be a meeting between them, the publisher and me to go over what worked in the story and what needs a second look. I'll have about two weeks to make or dismiss the changes they suggest. You should always consider changes your editor suggests but also not be afraid to dismiss them if the part under question is important to a later story. Most likely, however, the majority of them will be accepted. Then, I'll have another round of developmental edits with the publisher. We'll meet over those and I'll have two more weeks to make the edits. Finally, I'll have a session of copyediting, and then a couple more weeks to make those edits (though my grammar has become atrocious in my old age of 36, and I can seriously see myself just accepting all corrections and trusting my copyeditor's good judgment).

After all of that, it's off to the proofreader to look for typos from the various layers of editing, then it's formatted for publishing.

Also, I was told that possibly starting as soon as early May, the cover artist may begin working on my cover. This will be multiple rounds of getting multiple ideas based on the information I gave her and choosing which ones I like with the edits I would like to see. After that, the cover goes through the design phase for things like title and author placement, spine design, back blurb placement, etc. Then the back blurb is written and the completed cover is finished. When this is done, I'll schedule a big cover reveal to showcase what I know will be an amazing cover because the artist we chose for my cover is absolutely fantastic!

Getting this book done and ready to sell from start to finish will take from now until early December at its soonest. It's definitely a process, which is why I wanted to run this particular Tumblr, just in case anybody is interested in working with a publisher. There is always a lot of work and meetings on your part as the author, so always plan for that and be very upfront about your schedule so your publishers can plan accordingly. Also, let them know if there are any major changes to your schedule; I just got a temporary job that will last through December and let my publishers know. This way, we are ready to schedule meetings whenever we all have time, knowing that this may be evenings or weekends currently. A good publisher will work with you to the best of their ability, but always be forthcoming with information and let them know immediately if there is a change, especially if you can do so before a hard schedule for meetings is established.
