Hello! My name is Ash, I am 18yrs old, and I have created this page to raise awareness on many of the issues that we are facing as a society. I believe that spreading the word is one of the most important forms of protest, aside from actual protest.

But I will not deny that this page will contain lots of socio-political commentary and my own opinions.

As a disclaimer, I would like to say that my words are not calls to violence but to action. And some of the things I say are l more comments on the world than genuine advice.

On this page I would like to go over many of these issues and reference past and potential future issues that created or stemmed from these. It is important to know our history, our current situations, and rights in a time where the U.S. government seems hellbent on erasing history in the process of it happening.

the kids online safety act passed the u.s. senate.

long story short (for anyone who hadn't heard of this before) the kids online safety act, aka kosa, is a bill that will censor online content and resources for lgbtq+ matters, reproductive healthcare, activism (INCLUDING PALESTINE AND LIKELY OTHER CRISES GOING ON LIKE IN CONGO OR SUDAN), mental health, etc. everywhere--its effects likely won't be contained to just america.

today, july 30th, 2024, the senate passed it 91-3. it has officially moved to the house of representatives.

is this a pretty massive setback? yes. do you have every right to be scared, sad, angry, or whatever else about this happening? absolutely. but should you give up hope completely? NO!

even though kosa passed the senate, the house is on break/august recess at the moment. we have around an entire month to get emails, calls, and faxes in to house reps, maybe more depending on when they decide to vote on it.

should it pass the house and get signed into law, we still have a whole 18 months before it actually goes into effect. this is plenty of time for digital rights orgs (e.g. fight for the future, the electronic frontier foundation) and other groups that oppose it to file a lawsuit against it. even if, worst-case scenario, it flies through the house immediately after the recess ends, we can still fight this up to march 2026.

so, yes, remember what's at stake here, but also remember that it's not over yet. we lost a battle, not the war.

yesterday i was going to work, it was raining, my headphones died and i was hungry. then a random thought crossed my mind and i had to stop

because the thought was a realization that im looking forward to the future

i was lost in thought and it crossed my mind that i cant wait to go to college, work, travel, meet people

i havend thought like that since i was a child, mental health struggles can make something so mundane like looking forward to the future surreal. if youd asked me from a year ago what i hoped to be doing in 5 years i would not have an answer different than being gone

so what im trying to say is keep fighting, waking up and pushing through the worst because it will be better. noone is insignificant, noone is too small to make a change. love yourself and help people in need, one day you will be fine

Call The HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES to REJECT the SAVE ACT

TLDR: Bill US HR8281, the SAVE Act, is a bill that would require anyone registering to vote in federal elections to provide proof of citizenship, and if passed, could disenfranchise numerous eligible voters who can’t provide the proper documentation when filling out voter registration forms.

While last year it was killed under the Biden Administration and the Democrat-controlled Senate, Republicans this year now have control of the Hosue, Senate, and the Presidency (Although with a slim majority); there are plans by House Speaker Mike Johnson to reintroduce the SAVE act again

However, a specific date hasn't been selected, but I ask that you take some time to tell your Representatives and House leaders to vote no on the SAVE act.

Use the HOUSE.GOV website by going on there, entering your zip code, and you will find your rep's profile with a link to their website; then, you should be able to see their contact info; I recommend that you call their Washington phone number.

While this bill is framed as a measure to combat voter fraud, it is, in reality, a voter suppression effort that creates unnecessary barriers to voting and disenfranchises millions of Americans.

If passed, the SAVE ACT would affect:

Up to 150 million Americans who do not have a passport.

Approximately 69 million women citizens who do not have a birth certificate with their current legal name on it.

Elderly Americans are the least likely to hold passports.

One of the foundational values of our democracy is the idea that every person is entitled to a vote – a say in the direction of our nation.

Rather than advancing harmful legislation like the SAVE Act, I urge you and congress to focus on protecting and expanding voting rights by supporting measures such as the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

There is a shortage of teachers, learning supplies, and safe environments for those children to learn.
