Hi. Hope you having a lovely day. Love your blog!! I know not many bl shows have coming out scenes, but can you recommend shows where the character actually says they are gay/bi/queer to friends or family. Either coming outs that go well or ones that don’t, or character/s talking about their sexuality to someone else. Thanks!!!! :)
hi there!
thank you!! 🥺💜
Like you said sexuality is rarely touched upon in bls and I feel like it's gotten even less in the last few years which sucks but then again I haven't been watching many bls lately.
But anyway out of the ones I've seen, these are the ones that mention or have a sub-narrative about sexuality (from newest to oldest & with a little disclaimer about the respective experiences of the characters):
Be My Favorite (positive)
Bed Friend (negative)
Moonlight Chicken (positive)
Utsukushii Kare Season 2 (positive & negative)
609 Bedtime Story (positive)
Between Us (positive & negative)
Love in the Air (positive)
Love Stage (negative)
Never Let Me Go (positive)
The Eclipse (positive)
A Tale of Thousand Stars (positive)
Light on Me (positive)
Lovely Writer (positive)
I Told Sunset About You (positive)
Tonhon Chonlatee (negative)
Dark Blue Kiss (positive)
Fujoshi, Ukkari Gei ni Kokuru (negative)
He's Coming to Me (positive)
Love by Chance (positive)
SOTUS (positive)
if someone has more to add, leave a reply!

Well, Episode 7 of Fujoshi, Ukkari Gei ni Kokuru was terribly disappointing and downright kinda..fucked up? Why did they let her make a speech, this isn't about her. Also her love for BL being a secret is nowhere near comparable to being gay in a conservative society. This should have been him talking and liberating himself in a way and then if teachers tried to stop it, it should have been everyone trying to stop them for him to talk, not for her.
Also, I'm a bit mad that they are trying to turn this into a "oh he's gay but he can still love that one girl" thing. Like yes Bisexuality, sexuality is fluid and romantic attraction can differ to sexuality it is all valid, but gay people aren't even widely accepted in Japan enough yet to tell that kind of story this way. We need to get the basics down first before diving into the specific diversified of sexuality and attraction. Japan is not there yet. This first and foremost was about a homosexual young man who suffers because society won't accept him and he himself can't accept himself because of the society he grew up in. And they portrayed that struggle so well that it hopefully was understandable to a straight Japanese crowd but this episode kinda burned down all the previously established conversation starters. Instead this now felt like a bury your gays type of story where yes, he may not die, but they surely killed the story that NEEDS to be told.
Maybe my hopes were too high. They seemed to steer in the right direction but this was dissatisfying and kind of a slap in the face to every homosexual man and woman, not only in Japan but all around, who are suffering. Especially with the asshole who outed him grabbing the mic and going "you think you're the only one suffering" like bro, this isn't just self pity, the boy tried to commit suicide because of his sexuality, it's not a "just get yourself together" type deal. Y'all are the problem. He isn't unproblematic for trying to date a girl despite not being in love (or well apparently he magically is now) but it all comes back to society being the problem, not him.
Fuck that. Fuck all of what I just watched, I am disappointed. Also we are still not going to punish the literal middle aged man fucking creep of a groomer who is keeping a minor as a side piece?? We are just not gonna drop that man or even judge him in the show???

edit: The main character chats with an “internet friend who he’s never met before” about his every day experiences as a queer person. Something about that can be so personal. 🥺
Never have I been so happy about a full Queen soundtrack! 🤩🎶
#thel’s thoughts#thelevision 📺#fujoshi: ukkari gei ni kokuru#fujoshi: ykkari gay ni kokuru#queen#tbh i used to dislike queen a bit 🤭#but my bff REALLY loves queen#and so does her entire family#(no joke: brother; parents; cousins; aunts; uncles; even her grandparents! 😂)#(it’s sort of an entry exam into the family)#so every time i hear queen i am reminded of her family#so every time i hear queen i am reminded of her family 💖#(and the fun times we used to have during new year’s eve fireworks 🎆 -> i used to celebrate every nye at her house)#tldr: now i love queen for *sentimental reasons* 🥲#and there’s obviously a queer connection 🏳️🌈#so to have this series combine bl content and queen? ✨#chef’s kiss 😘#thel go to sleep challenge 💤

September 2022 BL Line Up
9/11 Fahlanruk (Thai)
GaGa Sundays, 10 eps, 45 min ea.
Fahlan (smart jock) meets Sherbet (edgy bad boy) sparks fly and they end up in bed together. Fahlan feels a lot more for Sherbet than is allowed, so he hides his feelings. Fahlan’s friends Ping and Tap, try to help their boy win his man, but are struggling with friends-to-lovers woes of their own. Looks to be a strong contender in the Thai BL pulp dumpster fire of joy arena. It’s using tropes we rarely see and it tonally seems like a combination of Nitiman + Y-Destiny’s players episode (2 of my 2021 favorites). I like sexually messy and identity confused college dramas but Love Mechanics might have tapped me out.
Y-novel adaptation featuring a pining seme and high heat, from director Koo who has a long back catalogue of shows, if not a great track record with BL (Club Friday and Tonhon Chonlatee are his).
9/14 Once Again (Korea)
Viki Thursdays, 8 eps, 25 min ea
Time-slip fantasy BL from Moving Picture studio & Idol Romance behind Wish You, Ryu's Wedding, Tasty Florida, Tinted With You, and Kissable Lips (also forthcoming Happy Ending Outside The Fence and The Circumstances of Pungdeok Villa Room 304). Stars actors (no idols) Moon Ji Young (also star in an upcoming BL The New Employee), Lee Hyuk Jun, and Kang Woo Jung.
JaeWoo lives with childhood trauma. He travels to the past where he meets JiHoon, a law student who JaeWoo admires most in the world. Will he be able to change both their fates?
9/16: More Than Words (Japan)
Amazon Prime Video JP (only?)
Adaptation of Etsuko’s two mangas In The Apartment and More Than Words, starring Ryōko Fujino (Fujoshi, Ukkari Gei ni Kokuru), Yuzu Aoki (Kakafukaka), Daisuke Nakagawa (Colorful Love), and Daiki Kanechika (EXIT).
Told from the perspective of the female best friend who is against (?) the workplace gay relationship of her bff. Also there is another gay plot line.
9/22: My Tempo (Thailand)
Unknown distribution.
BL movie about the Thai music industry. What joy is mine.
9/26 Ai Long Nhai (Thai)
No international distribution as yet, 10 eps 45 min ea.
About a man expelled from foreign university who returns to a Thai university in disgrace and meets A Boy.
From Thailand’s Mflow Entertainment for Ch3Thailand. Adapted from a Y-novel, directed by Nob (La Cuisine, Gen Y). Secondary couple Nan & Sippakorn are IRL husbands Arm & Porsch (Together with Me). Familiar faces include Gun (Love Area’s Valen) and Jom (Nitiman’s Jin).
This is actually the inception story of the characters of AiNi in Tonhon Chonlatee which I didn’t realize. Now I loved those characters, but I disliked that series from a story standpoint and this is the same author so I’m now nervous.
Comfort the Boy AKA A Shoulder to Cry On (Korea)
No international distribution as yet, 12 eps 20 min ea (?)
Looks to be a longer than usual KBL, got an R15+ rating for topic & vulgarity (we likey), stars idols Jaehan & Yechan BOTH from Kpop group OMEGA X (we scairedy). Interesting that an idol company is allowing two idols from the same group star in a BL together. *danger will robinson.”
Adaptation of Dongmul's manwha A Shoulder to Cry On, high school set, features a teasing confident gay, and a rich/poor pairing, about homophobia/gossip putting a scholarship in jeopardy.
SELF the series (Thai)
No international distribution as yet, no known length.
From Studio Common about a young artist who mysteriously loses his reflection and sees a strange boy in the mirror instead. Stars fresh faces, directed by Too (Triage) and NutSor (screenwriter of Dew).
Happy Ending Outside the Fence (Korea )
No international distribution as yet, probably usual KBL length.
JungWoo is a writer who disappeared after being treated unfairly in the publishing industry. TaeYoung, the head of a publishing company, admires and wants him to write again. JungHyun became a star by borrowing JungWoo's writings. The three characters interact and drama results. Stars idol Leo of VIXX.
Magic of Zero: Zero Supporter (Thai)
GMMTV feat advertisement specail (c 45 min) on their YT channel
Cupid's Last Wish spin off, features EarthMix in another bodyswap on this time with each other (KornWin). I disliked the origin show intensely, so I can’t see myself watching this.
MPD (missing presumed dead):
Ghost Host, Ghost House. Thai PNR pulp BL was billed as dropping in August.

Kiss Him Not Me! (2020)
Full title: Boys! Please Kiss Him Not Me! Native Title: 私がモテてどうすんだ Based on popular shōjo manga [x] and anime you can watch here [x]
The beautiful, amazing, talented, rjgman56subs has subbed the full movie and you can WATCH IT HERE: https://www.rjgman56subs.com/post/kiss-him-not-me-is-up
Within shōjo manga, there is a trend of stories focused on fujoshi/fangirls and some of them have been questionable and some are good. It’s a pretty touchy subject and so I think it’s pretty hit and miss when they adapt them. Personally, for example, I did not like Fujoshi, Ukkari Gei ni Kokuru (2019) as I found it got pretty dark and twisted and I didn’t love the politics, I also didn’t love The Shipper (2020) and found it uncomfortable to watch. Personally I prefer the older movie Fujoshi Kanojo (2009) which is cute and wholesome. That’s probably why I enjoyed Kiss Him Not Me! it had similar vibes. Those vibes = the boys are like “oh you like boys kissing boys? no worries babe lemme kiss this boy for you.” I like the politics of these confident, kind, wholesome boys who just throw themselves enthusiastically into the wacky fujoshi world for the sake of the girl they like, regardless of their own sexuality etc. WHOLESOME. (and, as far as I understand from tiktok, a fairly accurate representation of genZ boys in general).
Also, this movie was DUMB and SILLY and FUN and STUPID with those chaotic manga vibes and a musical number - and I live for that shit!!!
It may or may not have been fat-ist, or it had a good message about fat-shaming....? I couldn’t decide because they leave it kind of ambiguous. I’m pretty sure it had a good message, but it could have been clearer. Either way, the lead Tomita Miu (who was also in the much darker Netflix series, Switched (2018)) was ADORABLE and I loved her in this.
Also it had Nakayama Satsuki in it who is non-binary LGBT+ icon !?!??! SLAY!
Overall it “could have been gayer” ~ a review. (But I feel like they were leaving it open for a sequel).

Anna, I discovered a Japanese drama recently titled 'Fujoshi, Ukkari Gei ni Kokuru'. At first I thought just from the title it was going to be one of those cheap, comedic relief kind of story. I was proven wrong, it was more intense and reality hitting story about the lgbt & the fujoshi group in Japan. It was heartbreaking for me watching the main character trying to find and accepting himself. It reminded me of Fighter but more dark and intense. I'm still on episode four though, -continue-
so I don't know how things will turn out but I would love to know your opinions and reviews of the episodes/show. If you don't want to watch it, it's totally fine. You are not obligated to watch it of course. Once again, I hope you have a wonderful day. - still in self-discovering anon🎭
I looked up the plot and some reviews and it sounds interesting! I’ll put it in my watchlist and I’ll try to get to it in a decent amount of time. Once I do, I’ll remember to write my thoughts about it!

Jun (Daichi Kaneko) is an 18-year-old high school student. He hides the fact that he is gay from his mother and other people. Miura-san (Ryoko Fujino) is a classmate of Jun. She likes reading books about BL (genre depicting homoerotic stories). Jun tells Miura-san that BL is just fantasy and that gayness in real life is dirty. Miura-san tells Jun that his remark is offensive to gay people. Nevertheless, Jun and Miura-san become close. Jun becomes interested in Miura-san and Miura-san begins to have feelings for Jun. One day, Miura-san tells Jun that she likes him.
