Prologue (The Spark)

Let it be known that I am a neutral party and that I don't take sides when it comes to rap beef. I was here for the music and creativity. I am just trying to recount events to the best of my knowledge. Sorry if some details are inaccurate.

Okay so basically, Drake, J Cole, and Kendrick Lamar are the Big 3 of the rap world right now.

A month ago, Future and Metro Boomin (two rapper who supposedly don't fuck with Drake anymore) released a song with Kendrick Lamar called "Like That". In the song Kendrick took a shot at Drake and J Cole, saying there isn't a big 3, its only him on top.

4 weeks ago J Cole dropped a track called "7 Minute Drill" that is dissing Kendrick. However, in a move that is very uncharacteristic of J, he took down the official track and formally apologized to Kendrick. Thus signaling his exit from the rap battle.

ROUND 1.1 (Physical Ed)

Drake on the other hand dropped "Push Ups" 2 weeks ago, a diss track that went after other rappers he doesn't like but mainly Kendrick. In it, he made fun of Kendrick's height and his contracts. He then ends the song with "I was really try'n keep it PG" meaning he has a nuke on Kendrick that people don't know.

Not long later, Drake dropped ANOTHER diss track "Taylor Made Freestyle" with Ai voices of Snoop Dog and fucking 2PAC! Kendrick has stated before that 2pac is one of his idols so this must have been a deep cut. In the song Drake claims Kendrick doesn't write his own music and uses the writers of Taylor Swift. Relating a rapper to pop music is seen as disrespectful.

INTERLUDE PART 1 (Roots)

Before I continue, I want to give a brief run down on how the public perceives these two rappers.

Drake portrays himself as a superstar, he's always on social media flaunting his success and partying with other celebrities, seeing alot of women and living a lavish lifestyle. His music is catchy, something you put on in the club. Most of his fan base praise him for his sick beats and witty lyrics. He's been in the music industry for a while and is no push over.

Kendrick Lamar is a very private person, doesn't expose anything about his personal life unless its on a track. He almost never gets into fights with anyone. He is a family man, stressing the importance of being there for his wife and son and encourages other fathers to do the same. His fan base praise him for his creative lyrics and highlighting the black American condition.

ROUND 1.2 (2 Warning Shots)

2 Day ago, Kendrick Lamar came back with his first official diss track on Drake called "Euphoria". In this song, Kendrick goes in on Drakes fake personality. Drake has always been known around the community as a bit of a poser, he grew up in Canada and was raised by his white mother, a relatively comfortable childhood. He was a star on the popular show Degassi when he was young. garnering him a fan base early in his career. Kendrick doesn't approve of Drake appropriating black American culture and acting like he some tough guy. When in reality he is a Canadian nerd thats disrespectful to 2pac. All throughout the song, Kendrick hits at things that many people have know about Drake, such as his behavior around underage girls. He also called Drake a deadbeat father who isn't in his son's life, even referencing his lost battle to Pusha T. Then Kendrick finally warns him that he has more dirt that he is willing to share if Drake takes things further.

Similar to Drake, Kendrick dropped another track called "6:16 in LA" later that day. This song focuses on Drake's environment, specifically the people he hangs with. Kendrick implies that Drake paid people to dig into his background and when they didn't find anything, Drake made up stuff instead. Kendrick then says that someone in Drakes group is leaking information to him about something even more serious. Also planting a seed in Drake's mind that his supposed friends don't actually like him, just like the clout from hanging around him.

INTERLUDE PART 2 (Pusha the Seer)

Taking a quick break again, we need to discuss something that occurred long before Drake's battle with Kendrick.

5 years ago, Drake was in a rap battle with rapper Pusha T, someone who was smaller than Drake at the time in terms of popularity. Pusha dropped a song called "The Story of Adidon" where he dropped a bomb that Drake had a kid and wasn't taking care of him. Drake initially denied it but it was later revealed to be true.

Since then Drake has never responded to Pusha T's diss track, making Pusha the current winner. And Kendrick is bringing it back into the light.

Round 2.1 (Knifes Out)

Around 2 am EST time of May 4th, Drake drops his diss track, "Family Matters" one of his strongest songs, switching his flow 3 times in the span of 7 minutes. In true Drake fashion, its a club song with a catchy beat. Like his previous diss, its aimed at multiple people but the main focus is on Kendrick, even bring up "I was really try'n keep this PG".

Drake doubles down on his black identity and mocks the fact that Kendrick and other rappers are saying he isn't black, (incorrectly assuming that they are coming at him for being mixed when the real issue is that he is appropriating black American rap culture as a Canadian mixed man who grew up in a safe environment) Drake not only calls Kendrick a fraud who only raps about black issues for attention, Or that his activism is performative. He makes a shocking claims that Kendrick is a wife beater. Then Drake says that Kendrick's son doesn't belong to him and implies Kendrick's producer was the real father.

The track caused an uproar. But only for the span of 15 minutes. Because Kendrick did the unthinkable.

ROUND 2.2 (THE NUKE)

Almost as if expecting Drake's move, Kendrick Lamar did what no one saw coming. He dropped his diss track "Meet The Grahams" about 15 minutes after Drake released "Family Matters".

This time around, in a fashion almost unheard of from him, Kendrick strips all the usual metaphors from his lyricism and structures his track like he is speaking to Drake and his family, 4 parts per individual.

Kendrick begins by speaking to Drakes Son, Adonis, the same son Pusha T exposed Drake for neglecting 5 years ago. He's apologizing to him for his father's behavior. Kendrick speaks to him softly but sternly like a mentor, telling him not to be like his father. Kendrick tells Adonis all the things Drake did and warns him not to do them too: involved with escorts, plastic surgery to appear more black, surgery to look more muscular, hiding a kid. (Kendrick stresses that Adonis is black regardless of being mixed, further highlighting that he isn't discrediting Drake's blackness because he's mixed but because he isn't being himself.) Finishing of by telling the kid to be proud of who he is.

The second half is Kendrick addressing Drake's mother and father, Sandra and Denise. Kendrick speaks to her like he's revealing tragic news, explaining to her that her son is involved in disgusting things. He goes down a list of things, his tone growing more intense and angry. Kendrick then claimed that Drake is employing and enabling pedos in his group, and hopes they die. Even implying that his group is going to be raided by the feds some day.

The third half is the MOST shocking of all. Kendrick begins talking to an unnamed individual, simply calls her babygirl. Similar to Adonis, Kendrick takes on a somber tone and apologizes to her for Drakes behavior. He says its not her fault Drake abandoned her, says that she is deserving of love. He warns her not to become a target for people like Drake to pray on and says she has so much to offer the world.

Kendrick revealed Drake has ANOTHER kid and isn't in their life! (Allegedly)

To close of, the fourth half is Kendrick speaking directly to Drake, his tone tired. He tries to reiterate that he doesn't have hate for him. However, Kendrick says Drake was the first one to go after his family and he couldn't let it slide. He once again calls for Drake to take the mask off. Then says this isn't a rap battle anymore, tells Drake he is fighting himself.

Epilogue (All eyes on him)

And so here we are, waiting for what will happen next.

Drake posted an Instagram story denying the claim he has another kid. But given what happened with Pusha T, we can't quite take his word for it yet. We should wait a bit to see if anything comes out.

Kendrick hasn't put out a statement on Drake's claims about him but given the recurring theme of Drake being a manipulative lier, Kendrick clearly denies it. Given how private he is, its difficult to prove or disprove it. Much like Drake's claims, we will have to wait and see if any evidence comes out about it.

Drake and Kendrick stans are at eachothers throats right now, arguing over who one and whats real or fake.

Right now everyone is looking to see if Drake is going to continue the battle or stay silent like he did with Pusha.

My Theory

Personally as an outside observer who only followed the beef for good music. I think this goes beyond a simple rap battle.

Here is my theory: Someone from Drake's clique told Kendrick that Drake and his producers were writing something about him. Real or fake, Kendrick was pissed. And so he drafted 3 tracks, dumping everything he hates about Drake into them. And then, with the leaker's help, Kendrick baited Drake into a battle, goading Drake to drop the "Family Matters" track so he can shut the battle down with "Meet the Grahams". Or maybe his first 2 tracks were a warning to Drake that if he released a track with lies on him he would reveal he has another kid.

I do think Kendrick initially had good intentions in trying to help Drake be a better person. But maybe the more he learned about Drake the less sympathetic he felt.

But I don't know thats just how I see it.

Convo 1: (they sent 2 photos of paintings that look to be stolen or ai, image limit won’t let me put them)

This person seemingly could not and would not respond to a single question I posed, and honestly it was so odd and unclear. They were claiming to want to buy the rights to a drawing I did so they could… paint it for a client? No clue. Clearly fake.

Conversation 2:

This one similarly, well, has issues? Just… it’s such an odd scam interaction and is so unconvincing it’s almost funny. Do give it a read, as again, very funny.

I have chosen not to censor the names, so people know to look out. And this isn’t just me, I’ve had several other artist friends complain of near enough the exact same issue.

I don’t know the purpose of this scam, but it’s definitely a scam nonetheless. Not only are the intentions of this scam harmful, but they also suck for another reason. As of right now, the artist industry has taken a huge hit. Ai art and unfair working conditions has forced artists into poverty, and commissions are so important for artists. To try and prey on artists just trying to do their job and make a living is fucking pathetic. It’s also awful. Do better. Be better.

If you are a legitimate person who wants to commission art, don’t act like this! I assume most people who actually want to purchase real art wouldn’t, but do make it clear that you are a real person in one way or another. And make sure to support your local artists, if there’s an artist you love who does comms… consider getting one if you have the extra money! Artists are under siege. The prevalence of things like ai imagery, NFTs, writers strikes, artists strikes, etc, make it very difficult. Artists deserve better working conditions. This artist stroke is necessary, but it means a lot of us are out of work and now more then ever commissions are important, and scams that are leaching off of that and trying to get more gullible artists who may not know that it’s a scam is just disgusting.

AO3 has gotten hit with AI data scraping programs already, it’s possible that any fic you’ve posted that isn’t locked has already been trained on, it’s why there’s been several people who would’ve never done it otherwise archive locking their stuff recently

Oh yeah I know that I still have to lock my fics but this last reblog about a reader putting a story in chatgpt themselves to generate a fake ending is waaaaaaay worse in my opinion.

Like look, I know when I put anything out on the internet that someone somewhere is gonna take it and pretend its theres or share it without my permission. It's already happened to me with my analyses in the past. When I heard about the software being scrubbed I was sad but not surprised, it really was only a matter of time but there was little I or any other writer could do to stop that (whether AO3 could have is an entirely different matter)

But to me a person reading my unfinished fic and going "wow this is great but I want more I'll put this in chatgpt to get more instantly!" is actually SOOOOOOOO fucking insulting. That person is bascially saying they don't view me as another being but as a person meant to entertain. They're saying that the hours and tears and all that time spent writing was not actually that valuable because look a machine can do it just as well and faster!

That person is so egregiously wrong and selfish. They are no better than the dudebros who scrubbed the internet in the first place. They're worse because they KNOW it's not okay and yet choose to ignore that. They're worse because they're taking something that is very obviously very personal to the author and then saying "nah i want a machine to finish it cause im too impatient or don't care what the author thinks'

Writing is so goddamn hard but writers write for a reason. We write for you and for us and for the fandom and fic writers do it for FREE and yet that isnt enough? How are people who use chatgpt to write fic any different from people who steal art and feed artificial art generators? What gets to me about mainstream AI enthusiasts is that all of them

all of their talking points

can be boiled down to "I hate artists".

It's all either about replacing the very few art jobs that pay (writer, cover artist, voice actor, actor, 3D renderer, graphic designer, ...) in larger industries...

... or it's about creating "art" (patterns, prints, characters, posters, colouring pages, fabric designs, ...) without needing to actually develop any skills or spend any time, and then selling it on etsy, spoonflower, redbubble, etc, thus taking money and attention away from artists...

... or it's about just being able to claim you made a thing and "showing them up", either by showing that you cando what they do with no effort, or more often, by just not saying it's AI and getting the attention and admiration that they get. Or to get clicks and defraud people who think they're buying a real thing, which still involves creating fake art.

And it's fucking everywhere. As a crafter, I've seen hundreds of crochet, knitting, cross-stitch and quilting patterns that are made by AI, and they NEVER say that in the description when selling them. Literally look up "cross-stitch pattern" on etsy and a large percentage of the first page of results is AI.

My sister collects colouring pages for her library branch, and takes great pride in paying artists for them, because she wants to pay people for their work. She literally has to dig through several pages of AI art to find a single real artist right now. Recently, I've seen several cross-stitch and colouring book artists closing shop because they can't compete with AI and it's not worth the time anymore.

And there are legitimate uses for AI that don't involve these things, like people using it to diagnose cancers and rare illnesses and shit. It could be used to reduce people's workloads immensely. It's barely being used for that, though, because what people seem to really want to FOCUS on is this:

"art is easy", and "I could do that too if I had the time/skill", and "artists are cheating us by charging for their work" and "I hate artists".

ttpdta review part one 🤠

let me preface this by stating that i am a swiftie first and person second in this situation. i have grown up with taylor and feel as if shes my big sister- yes i can make fun of her but if i see anyone else do it i will get fiercely protective. i do understand her music is not only art but also her form of therapy. that being said, throughout these nonsense notes i am constantly mentioning that taylor should go to therapy. i am aware of what she has said about therapy (and why she doesn’t go) but i would beg to differ with her…especially after this album release lol.

taylor is an extraordinary storyteller and song writer. i believe this album is full of evidence of that, but it also has some faults that prevent from being as good as i felt like it could have been. overall the album feels rushed.

i also feel like it’s important to recognize the elephant in the room. i know we probably all expected this to be a joe breakup album, so the fact that it turned out to be a “fuck you matty healy” album shook us all a little bit. i know matty had a controversial history, im not gonna sit here and defend him. i don’t know much about him other than what is forced against my will. i do however know that he struggles with mental health issues/ substance abuse/ addiction. i’m not gonna comment much about his personal issues, i don’t feel like that’s right and taylor’s constant references to drugs throughout ttpd definitely rubs me the wrong way. i should also mention i grew up with an active addict and do view things from that perspective, so i feel slightly triggered by the topic and my feelings about that may just be personal but i do mention that in my notes when it’s relevant.

lastly, i am not a music production girlie idk shit lol. i only know i am a aaron dessner stan so any song with his name im already biased towards and i am aware, if u don’t like that idk what to tell u lol. i just know what i feel like is “good” or “bad” but music is subjective🫶🏻

1. Fortnight:

Hate the functional alcoholic part. Like the beat, the chorus is catchy. One thing i love about a taylor swift song is that theres always a story and its always visual. I like the metaphor of the “good neighbors” of like having this teasing/ longing feeling for someone that you could have had a life with. “Your wife waters flowers/ i want to kill her + my husbands cheating/ i want to kill him” feeling like you were robbed of her life, feeling “all my mornings are mondays stuck in an endless february” reminiscing about the short period of time where you were together and convinced it would last forever (only for it to end before it even started). I do not listen to much post malone but i enjoyed his verse!! So many florida references we get it everything bad happens in florida.

i thought this was the opening of Hey Stephen (the remix) or something at first. gotta say i absolutely love the way she sings “you left your typewriter at my apartment/ straight from the tortured poets department” i enjoyed the vibe of this song, and lyrics up until the “you smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate (OKAY SOOOOOOO ME CODED NGL I LAUGHED at this point i could let this lyric slide- bit then she had to mention the charlie puth and golden retriever thing and ngl it almost ruins the song entirely for me. Tbh when i first listened to the leak i thought this was a fake AI song and that i was sending around a fake leak bc these lyrics started to get a little weird to me. ‘Sometimes i wonder if youre gonna screw this up with me/ but you told lucy you’d kill yourself if i ever leave” …………girl i am begging you to see a therapist (side note did anyone else have a friend in hs whos bf would say that shit a lot?? I remember straight up fighting with a friend who refused to break up w her bf bc he would threaten to end his own life is she did and he was like 16? If an adult is saying that same shit i would be Very concerned not gossiping about it???) “i chose this cyclone with you” my first reaction was: ride the cyclone the musical? Overall i liked the first half but you lost me at charlie puth (hes the one with eyebrow right? I think i get him and miles teller mixed up) (i dont know who either of these men are)

3. My boy only breaks his favorite things:

Okay tbh i thought this was gonna be one of my least favorites, but the total opposite happened. I think this is one of my top 5 favorites on this album. I do think that there is a difference between a poem and a song and that they are not always interchangeable. I feel like if this was edited into a poem it would be KILLER. The visuals, the the story, the vocabulary, the sadness in it. “Im queen of sandcastles he destroys/ There was danger in the heat of my touch/ once i fix me/ hes gonna miss me/ i felt more when we played pretend then with all the kens / cause he took me out of my box” i feel like ever since folklore, taylors been trying to push these big fancy words and sometimes it feels awkward and forced, but this is one of the rare songs that doesn't suffer from that.

4. Down bad:

meh. Chorus is catchy. I dont love the narrative “fuck it if i cant have him/ i might just it would make no difference” but i also have never once experienced that over a person before lmao……….taylor go to therapy. Nothing really stands out about this to me otherwise. No offense, but it sounds like a generic jack antonoff song lol. Like maybe if another artist released this, i would enjoy it more but idk i wouldnt expect it from taylor i guess. Just kinda feels boring to me sorry if u enjoy it <3

5. So long, london:

oh man were done with british men now for real for real. “ two graves one gun. I'll find someone” its over for joe and matty (but thats fine if all she has to say about joe is what i think she said on this album i am happy i think We Get It…) Aaron dessner i love u (remember when he reposted me on his ig ahh).”i kept calm and carried the weight of the rift/ pulled him in tighter each time he was drifting away” + “I stopped trying to make him laugh/ stopped trying to drill the safe/ i didnt opt in to be our odd man out/ im pissed off you let me give you all of that youth for free” oof i FELT that one a LITTLE too hard. I think this is both a song about matty and joe- i think she had a life and an attachment to london just in general through both relationships, “im just mad as hell because i loved this place” and so reflecting back on how both are over and how all those plans with either are done. “You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days” OKAY kinda hate this phrase bc it feels like shes placing blame on whomever’s mental health/ depression, like as if they made the conscious decision to sacrifice the relationship solely. This very much feels like “how much sadness did you think i could take before i got bored???” overall top favorite songs bc it doesnt have too many cringey or odd lyrics and the production is 10/10 thank u aaron dessner ilysm king

6. But daddy i love him:

tbh when i got the leak this was the first song i listened to bc i thought it was gonna be the worst one and i wanted to get it over with (i was RIGHT until she dropped that second half……..) and i DIDNT have the lyrics obviously so i couldnt for the life of me figure out if she really said “im having his baby…..NO IM NOT!” until the VERY end of the song and bro…….the cringe. The cringe. The cringe. This is also when i started to question if this was real or if i was passing out a fake leak, lol. I dont understand how she could be saying this shit about matty. And like we all know it lol. “Sometimes growing up precocious sometimes means not growing up at all” …….but like does it??? I feel like thats kinda an oxymoron or something like i understand what shes trying to say and MOST of the time her metaphors and comparisons make sense to me but like this one doesnt. Growing up precocious means to grow up more advanced in maturity, how would that also mean not growing up at all? Is it just me getting stoned and overthinking things? “Ill tell you something about my good name/ its mine alone to disgrace” true that bestie ur doin a great job by being so politically quiet over the past couple of yeats after making a whole asss documentary about wanting to be on the right side of history. 7.Fresh out of the slammer: “In the shade of how he was feeling” -_- dont like this narrative already. I could honestly go on a rant about why i dont like this song but im going to spare for the sake of my sanity in this review of thirty one fucking songs but its along these lines “to the one who says im the girl of his american dreams” oh brother. otherwise i dont care for many of the lyrics, the chorus/ melody/vibe is mid i guess. It sounds like another jack song (i was right)

8. Florida!!!: “all my friends smell like weed or little babies” okay i know what she was trying to say but im SORRY you cant tell me she couldnt think of ANY other way to say her friends are either parents partiers lmao. Deserves jail for that but luckily the vibe and the chorus of the song are really catchy and florence’s voice is beautiful in it. “Well me and my ghost we had a hell of a time/ yes im haunted but im feeling just fine” CHILLS i loved it. I didnt think i would like this song but (maybe as much as i like no body, no crime which is meh) but no i lowkey love this song and think its really fun. Once again the drug references start to get heavy here in the album and like i mentioned i do get slightly triggered by drug mentions.

9. Guilty as sin?:

okay taylor we get it you masterbate. Another strong jack song and it’s pretty similar to others on the album so nothing besides the sexual lyrics stand out.

10. Whos afraid of little old me?:

“if you wanted me dead you should have just said/ nothing makes me feel more alive” ooooooooooh i love that. I feel like a live or an acoustic version of this song would give me CHILLS. “Is it a wonder i broke / lets hear one more joke/ then we can all laugh until i cry” honestly so relatable, “i was tame, i was gentle til the circus life made me mean” oh :( that hurt bc it just reminds me of the vibe shift during midnights era/ eras tour where it *feels* like she started to pull back from being taylor swift and started to become Taylor Swift (™) and the way her fans/ media has treated her made her mean or cold or something and that just makes me feel sad. “Whos afraid of little old me? You caged me and then you called me crazy! I am what i am cause you trained me! SO. WHOS. AFRAID. OF ME? Again the narcotics line kinda makes me feel icky but thats bc i have that thing about drugs and just dont LOVE all the references to them. Like i know its not that serious but theres a reason why i dont seek out artists that typically talk or write about that stuff ya know so its weird. Overall i think the production is one of the most unique ones on this part of the album.

11. I can fix him (no really i can):

i hate it all around i think. I hate the narrative of “i can fix him!! I can handle a dangerous man!!! No really i can!!!” there is a reason why this song is barely 3 mins long lol it should have been cut but i think taylor wanted to Be Edgy. i dont care for the productions or the lyrics, its very forgetful imo.

12. Loml:

okay i really thought this was gonna be a joe song (rip) so i was thinking it was gonna be really deep and sad and like it IS but with the context of it being the pt 2 fling with matty it doesnt seem like it now. Anyone who thinks this is not about matty please look at the lyrics and be so serious “whos gonna stop us from waltzing back into reklndled flames/ if we know the steps anyway” I think matty just said too much shit to taylor during their fling and taylor WAS truly convinced this her invisible string and he promised her a lot that he couldnt upkeep and ghosted her and she took it SUPER hard, i mean two breakups in one year is a lot (me, whos never been through a single breakup once). I just dont understand how she feels like matty is the greatest loss of her life. One of my favorite tracks on the album, “our field of dreams engulfed in fire/ your arsons match your somber eyes” a LOT of these lyrics are actually really good imo. I think im the only one that didnt find the “mr. steal your girl and make her cry” line idk i thought it was actually kinda neat, the phrasing of it, kinda contradicts the title “love of my life” because he was never that serious or respectful of her and only use her from the beginning. This is another song that i think would make KILLER poem over song. Overall i think the piano is haunting and a live version of this will make me die, thank u again aaron dessner 10/10

13. I can do it with a broken heart:

ngl i thought this was the opening to mastermind for a hot second- also gave me a scare on whether or not this was a fake leak lol. Catchy ass chorus but very YOYOK. “Breaking down i hit the floor/ All the pieces of me shattered/ as the crowd was shouting “more!” ooffffffff seeeeee that is exactly WHAT i was afraid she was feeling durning the eras tour after the joe breakup/ matty situation and all these stupid twitter and tik tok swiffers were out here overanalyzing EVERYTHING and demanding rep tv like every other day. “Im so depressed i act like its my birthday” …….okay taylor. Like a lot of people have said, i think she interchanges “depressed” for “sad” a lot and the two are not the same. I think taylor wrote this song (but specifically the “i cry a lot time but i am so productive” and was like “yup this part is gonna go viral on tik tok,” initially i wrote “feels like taylor saw that depression barbie commercial in barbie 2023 and wrote a song based on that” lol which i still agree with. Overall the production of this screams midnights reject lol, very jack antonoff. Over time this song has grown on me a lot. Originally i didnt care for it but now its kind of a bop but i think its bc its so similar to YOYOK. “Try and come for my job” @taylorswift deadass you couldn’t think of anything else to say instead. cmon. I was mostly on board until that very last part, just seemed very cheesy lol like its not a big deal but i thought it delivered well without it.

(aaron thank u for saving me and this entire album) “they just ghosted you/ now you know what it feels like” OUCH. “i dont even want you back i just want you to know/ if rusting my sparkling was the goal/ and i dont miss what we had but can someone give/ a message to the smallest man who ever lived” oh this was somber af. I am obsessed with the phrasing of the chorus. I also LOVE taylors deeper voice its def giving me the same feelings MTR gave me from folklore, that made me CRY and this was very similar. This is another classic taylor song that i could EASILY write like a ten page essay about if someone put a gun to my head. I know that its about a *romantic* relationship, but it feels general enough to be able to relate to anyone who is close to someone with an addiction or struggles with substances. A lot of addicts dont understand the impact of their addiction or their behaviors that they display while struggling. To meeeeee, this feels very much like “you were self centered and betrayed my trust, was any of this true? Real? Am i paranoid or is this that deep?” “it wasnt sexy once it wasnt forbidden” has me thinking lots of things. I think that describes taylors “type”if that makes sense? Like i said i would need to literally break this song down line by line like its ridiculous i have too many thoughts about this song i have listened to it on repeat six times by the time im typing this. “In public showed me off/ then sank in stoned oblivion” FUCK. “you treat her like an also-ran” honestly i have never heard of that phrase/word thank u dr. swift. “Were you sent by someone who wanted me DEAD/ did you sleep with a GUN underneath OUR BED/ were you writing a BOOK?/ were you a sleeper cell SPY? I will not engage!!!) are fucking dumb. Production is kinda lame and uninterested. Will only listen to this song if by force and will not repeat it ive head enough lets move on.

Ugh apparently I have MORE WORK to do on my creative thesis?

It’s 2/3 ok but 1/3 of it still needs work. It’s not even bad it’s just that I can do better so I have to do better before I can be done! I want to be done so bad!

And I have no time to do it in. I mean. I have some time to do it in, until Monday. But I also have a thousand things to do at the job where I make money, and I don’t know if I have enough time at all the things. I was counting on not having as much to do this weekend because last weekend and the weekend after this one are going to be so freaking busy.

I feel like I’m going to get this degree, but I feel like I’m not going to be proud of it. I also feel like my parents do not give a shit that I got the equivalent of a Ph.D over the last four years and have no pride in what I’ve done beyond what they’re faking when I tell them about my work. They genuinely seem so disinterested every time I tell them about this program and I am certain I am torturing them with my babbling. I told myself it was enough that my friends care, but I guess it still stings that my parents don’t give a shit and frankly they keep sending me mixed messages about how much my writing matters. So does my workplace!

And my friends do care but now everyone has more serious stuff going on and I feel bad asking for them to care.

And the world is going to hell and the government wants to censor everything now or companies want to use AI instead of actual writers because they don’t want to pay writers and (INHALE EXHALE) even fandom writing isn’t fulfilling sometimes because there are genuinely so few people who are interested in the ships I want to write and some folks are actively hostile to what interests me and yes yes write for yourself but honestly when the fandom stuff is happening against this backdrop? It fucking sucks! It sucks a lot!!

Also let’s just say a certain group of people at work trashed my workspace today and left food wrappers all over. As well as the packets of information I painstakingly put together for them. I literally mean nothing to these people. They literally do not care. They are going to be the successful people on this world and I will not even make their “acknowledgments” section.

I cannot see myself having a creative future in the world as it currently exists.

I try not to buy into the whole AI/bot panic for a multitude of reasons, but I recently found out about something that really bothered me.

Some of my friends in the Lois & Clark fandom have been receiving comments from bots on their newest stories. I will not be using a cut as I feel it's important for people to see them (but let me know if it gets too annoying on your dashes):

How can you tell these comments were written by bots:

They're all guest comments (notice the lack of a link under the name).

They contain absolutely no mentions of the specific fandom, characters or events in the story, just generic compliments. (Notice how one says "the protagonists" instead of the characters' names! Who writes like that!!)

The assumption is that the bots leave comments so that they can pass as human and not get flagged as bots. Perhaps it also serves as training for them, teaching them how to pass through spam filters.

The thing is - regardless of how one might feel re: AI text bots being trained on fanfiction, leaving fake comments on stories is disingenuous, offensive and unethical. We write to connect with and reach out to an audience that can understand our stories and share in our love for the characters and storylines. If we wanted empty compliments, we could write them ourselves. :P

Obviously, I don't have the power to convince the people who create these bots to leave us the fuck alone, or make them understand that it's shitty to play with people's feelings like that and reduce their artistic efforts to a bot training ground. So instead I tell you, my fellow fanfiction aficionados:

REGISTER ON AO3. Stuff like that makes people lock their fics to keep the bots away. If you haven't got an account yet, now is the time.

LEAVE COMMENTS. Balance out the fake comments with your own, genuine ones. Even a simple "I liked this!" can make a writer smile.

REACH OUT. Don't let fandom become a place where no one knows what's real and what's not. Make an effort, make friends. We're all as shy and weird as you, I promise.

DON'T USE AI FOR YOUR FANFIC ENDEAVOURS. Don't feed it stories, don't make it write your stories and comments for you. Just don't.

AI is terrible for art and writing

Before I begin my rant, if you don't like this post and think it's too harsh, I don't give a rat's flying ass about it. I'm going to say what needs to be said, not what others want to hear. Let's get it!

First things first, I'm going to break down why using a soulless robot is a bad idea for making art. I see a lot of AI "artists" using AI art on Tumblr, and if I'm being honest, they all look like something a cat puked out on my fucking driveway and I don't mean it in a joking way.

I'm not sorry to say, but you can't consider yourselves artists if your so called art is auto generated by a machine. A literal robot can't feel the same emotions a human feels while creating an art post. If it's one way to get inspired, then I wouldn't really care too much since you're just using it as a way to expand your creativity.

But once you use completely rely on a bot and call it your own art style, then you gotta fucking go! Call me "judgmental" and "rude" if you want to, I'm just speaking on the behalf of the majority of people who genuinely think having AI as a replacement is fucking lazy. They ain't wrong when they say that because it's actually true.

When you look at my art, which is made in the current version of MS Paint for instance, it's not always the best looking. I'm going to admit that I'm a bit trashy at it, but at least it's honest because I still put actual effort in it verses what AI users do. (They just type in a few words and let the machine do it. Like, you call that "effort"? I call that bullshit.)

Even when I'm too lazy to put in high quality effort on my digital art, I'll still get credited for originality because I'm the one who came up with it in the first place. Besides, using AI and calling yourself an artist is totally unfair and insulting to real artists, it's almost like a metaphorical slap in the face for them. (It's almost like me using pre-recorded SFX loops on Soundation and calling it an actual "song".)

Now, I'm not going to spend this entire rant based on fake art, I'm going to be talking about AI writers, too. People who use AI for writing stories, don't think I don't see you in the far back! Y'all not off the hook either!

Using AI to write fanfictions for you is more lazy than asking ChatGPT to solve a simple math equation. The readers would be able to tell if it's made by a robot just by looking at it because like I previously said, robots don't have souls or emotions.

I know I made a post covering over AI writing fanfictions and I'll definitely say it again because it just takes the fun out of reading someone's "work" if they're not willing to write it themselves.

Some might say "If you don't like it, don't read it then." I might as well not because if someone is not willing to be creative and put actual efforts into their fanfictions, why should ANYONE be bothered to read it?

And that goes for AI artists, too. If you're not bothered to create actual art by yourself, then don't bother being an artist, therefore do NOT call yourself an artist.

Don't want to write? = Not a writer

Don't want to make art? = Not an artist

Let this advice sink in for all beginners who are considering using AI for art.

I don't really know how to explain it okay. You just look at this text that's supposed to have life and it doesn't. And it's fucking horrifying.

I've been on ao3 okay. I've been on wattpad. I have a three door closet and like four boxes of books that I've read. I know. How writing feels. When a person does it. Professional and published or random author on ao3, they're all people. It sounds poetic and cliche yes, but there's truth to the whole "you leave a bit of yourself when you write". You do. In every character, every environment every interaction every description that you write? In every small mistake you make? There's a bit of yourself hidden between the lines. You use set words and rules for grammar and whateverthefuck to express yourself but in the end it's you who gives those words meaning. Who makes them come to life. Without a person, words have a definition, sure. But they don't have a true meaning. They are supposed to mean something, but it's those feelings of people who write them that make the words truly alive.

And AI can never replicate the feelings of a person who's writing their story. It uses words, but it doesn't understand what they mean. It uses words because their definition fits the scene, but it can never make those words feel alive. It uses words, but to it, those words mean nothing.

Sure. At some point it might be perfected so much that we won't be able to tell the difference between something a human wrote and something an AI wrote. But there will always be a difference.

The words of AI can never be alive because it's us, the writers, the people, who can give them life.

So how would they do this I thought about this just the other day I can see the child (you can give her a name of course) she's clingy around the people that she trust she would follow Lyle quaritch and mansk around holding there tails because she's a child I have a feeling if one of them would say "fuck you" to someone and the child hears that she thought it was just words she said it to quaritch and Lyle talking and she said it at them both shocked slowly turning looking at her she giggles laughing at them she never seen there faces like that quaritch would ask "who taught you that?." The child just says she heard it she points at z-dog far away but not that far away she's cussing at someone

God I have a feeling that the child would call Lyle or quaritch or mansk papa or Dada just have a feeling cause she's mostly around them she trusts them and what if she calls spider big brother everytime cause spider would play around with her sometimes hide and sick or tag so I can imagine how spider would feel being called big brother (that's all I got in my thick skill of mine)

Beef, Bars, and Banter: Navigating the Drake vs. Kendrick Feud and the Hilarity Ensuing

When I first came across Pop Base’s prompt to write something for their newsletter based on modern-day pop culture, like Drake, I wanted to hire a ghostwriter. 

Allegedly! Anyway…

I went to ChatGPT to see if I could streamline the process and create something funny, witty, and on-trend without spending too much time. It didn’t work at all. What came out (with specific prompts, even) was incredibly corny and very clearly written by AI. This is why we need REAL writers to be compensated fairly and given the correct resources to entertain and inform us properly.

Anyway, that’s my little rant on writing. But let’s go back to Drake. Right now, this man is getting cooked by the entire industry, yet it seems he’s holding his own? Whether our favorite cornball, who everyone admits is actually somewhat appealing in a way none of us can explain, is your favorite, or if you like the Pulitzer Prize winner, Kendrick, you must tip your hat to the revival of beef in the rap game.

This is fun!

I mean, The Weeknd is out here singing sultry diss bars, Future is butt-hurt for what seems to be the first time ever, Metro Boomin is catching strays simply because he’s good at making beats but doesn’t rap, Rick Ross is on IG calling Drake “whiteboy”, J Cole avoided a massacre but might have lost some respect in the process, Pusha T is somewhere saying “I told you so,” Kanye is continuing to be his same insane self… even Quavo and Chris Brown are getting intensely and perhaps almost violently disrespectful on the undercard for this headliner beef.

That said, rather than diving into this beef from all angles, I want to acknowledge that this is a lot of information to digest, and many battles are going on in this war. That’s why I will do my very best to give a bird’s-eye view of this whole situation and see if this perspective can help all of us enjoy it for what it is. Not necessarily to tell you who to “support” but rather to recognize that negativity might save us in 2024.

We’re missing pop culture events that unite and get us all thinking about the same things. That’s where I believe Kendrick and Drake are doing a massive service to hip-hop. Putting it all on the line gives us something great to sink our teeth into. I, for one, love it.

So, as far as comparing this beef to past beefs, I remember in middle school, hearing Nas on ‘Ether.’ It rocked my world. I was raised on Nas and thought of him as the ultimate rapper. A rapper’s rapper. Instantaneously upon hearing “Fuck Jay Z” several times in succession on the song, I became a bonafide 100% Jay Z hater.

Did I have a problem with Jay? Not really. He was a star. I liked his music and had absolutely no issues with him. But not anymore! Nas had set the stage for me to learn as much as possible about Jay Z and become skeptical of everything about him.

This time around, the same feeling is back. However, it’s even weirder because the internet is out here internetting. Drake has a team of social media people who ensure he has the best and most impactful content strategy any rapper in a beef could ask for.

The internet is all about timing and trolling. Drake and his team are certainly better equipped there. And it’s showing to be necessary. However, one could argue if the bars are all that matters, Kendrick might have him beat there. Hence, the need for Drake to win these small battles on social media.

I think the best thing about beef between world-class musicians is that we are instantaneously reminded that everybody is insecure and we all make mistakes. The goal of beef is to expose those missteps and air out those insecurities. Before, I never would have guessed Drake had a BBL, fake abs, and other body modifications. Does that make me hate him? Not really. Does it even bother me? No. Does it make me think he’s very weird? Hell yeah.

In this politically correct world, toxic masculinity makes a resounding comeback whenever rap beef is declared. That’s probably the most upsetting thing about this all, but at the same time, let me reiterate that it’s fun. In a world of Israel and Palestine headlines, one of the most significant elections of our history, climate issues, and other general sad, sad truths, this is something we quite certainly NEED.

Silly bullying.

Drake making fun of Kendrick’s shoe size is, frankly, hilarious. I don’t care at all that Kendrick is short. Why would I? It doesn’t matter one bit. But if you put it on a song, it’s GOING to be funny. But of course, he refers to him as “midget” a few too many times for our PC culture to be happy with him. I found this most interesting when stepping back and thinking about it all. To come across as “real” also means NOT being politically correct.

Drake came for Kendrick for making music with Taylor Swift. Meanwhile, he’s in a commercial singing and dancing to Taylor. Is working with one of the biggest stars of all time something you should be ashamed of? Clearly not. But it’s not manly. So we have to be embarrassed by it. Beef is confusing in 2024; that’s all I’m saying.

And Kendrick isn’t guilt-free, either. He told Drake he doesn’t like it when he says the N-word. Of course, Drake has a black father but was primarily raised by his white mother. Now, he must feel bad about using our culture’s most controversial word. Of course, there’s a lot a sociology professor could unpack about why this is wrong, but in rap beef, it’s fair game. And it works as a way to poke holes in Drizzy's entire being! So it plays.

Another thing. Before we had Rap Genius and could look up what these guys were saying, some more subtle jabs would go under the radar. But now, the whole thing—from Kendrick naming the song ‘Euphoria’ because of the HBO show Drake is a producer on—and the connection there to pedophilia to Drake calling his diss ‘Push Ups’—there’s simply lore everywhere you look.

I used to write for a company that covered Marvel/DC, comics in general, and action franchises, and the main thing I took away from it was that people love Easter Eggs. We love digging into the material and finding references to the past or things meant to not just be on the surface. That’s what we love most about rap beef - especially nowadays.

We want to make discoveries about these greats that make them less untouchable, to bring them down a peg. Interestingly, human nature is to humiliate those on top whenever possible. 

But alas.

So, whether you “don’t trust” Drake or love and agree that he’s winning this 20v1, you must admit this is “for the culture” and far from over. So buckle up; this will be a hilarious and fun ride.

Example A: The ai is stealing actual furry art scam that was REPEATEDLY proven to be false. But this sure went around on twitter and tumblr and then the people who literally faked it tried to pull some bs "it was a social experiment" "It was to show how it could end up" nonsense. Fuck you.

Example B, the only case i've seen a job "stolen", word used FUCKING loosely: In a comments section i saw a dude explained that for his souvenir photography shop, their boss is using an ai to colour correct the photos and the photographers aren't allowed to change the settings on the camera (implied: because the ai won't work unless it has specific camera settings).

So this dude thinks the photographers job got stolen because the photographer can't adjust the camera settings and because his job description changed from colour correcting to checking that the ai hasn't messed up. Homeboy wasn't fired/ctx

To explain to you, in case you genuinely have no knowledge of history or how things work in job markets /gen:

These things have been happening since the industrial era and yet i'm not seeing a single one of you arguing for us to go back to pre machinery sweat shops for young girls. Cus y'all do realise that pre machinery, in history, the norm was FUCKING SWEAT SHOPS in the global north, right?

Job loss is bad, yeah, and it was super fucking bad for the people who had typewriting jobs when the computer came.
