So there’s some double standards we need to talk about, the WHOLE Inner Circle drinks in every scene we get of them, and understandably Nesta shouldn’t have been drinking as a coping mechanism but for Feyre to go ahead and stage an intervention, kick her out of her apartment, lock her away, and force her to train is not okay. It’s not okay for Cassian to sexualize Nesta when she has been starving herself, when she’s beaten and bruised, I don’t care if they were ‘helping’ her but that’s not how you do it no matter what. You don’t take away a person’s options until all they have is you and Nesta could not have gone back to the Human Lands because Feyre and Cassian wouldn’t have let her so I don’t want that excuse. Nesta shouldn’t have used drinking and sleeping around as a coping mechanism but it was a COPING mechanism. Y’all get so mad when Nesta slut shamed Feyre but when Feyre and Amren did it to Nesta it’s okay??? And let me bring up the fact that her mate and the whole Inner Circle have been alive for 500+ years … so let’s think about some things. Nesta shouldn’t have been mean I can agree with that because she said some rude things, should she have helped in the cabin more? Absolutely! But when the Inner Circle turns around and does the same thing is rude and doesn’t help Nesta in the way that she needs where are you all speaking then? Do you guys not see the double standard that you all hold towards the Inner Circle?

Stupid genocidal bitches. Doesn't stop at books either. It goes for any kind of creation by any artist. How do you create noble art but end up a fucking dick.

the way this fic is making me feel about this ship - like i love blorbo 1 as long as he isnt shipped with anyone except blorbo 2. Otherwise blorbo 1 can go kill himself and i wouldn't care. Blorbo 2 however can fuck whoever he wants, he deserves it after canon.

We constantly compare Tamlin and Rhysand? Let’s just agree that they BOTH have done wrong, manipulation, causing some degree of physical and mental harm in a situation, now we can all agree that Rhysand did considerably MORE. Personally fuck both of these men and Feyre, Nesta, and Elain need to run as fast as they can. Also I don’t hate Tamlin and I do think that he has done more then enough for redemption but I don’t excuse his actions, now if some Rhysand and Inner Circle stans did the same all would be right in the world.

Lemme hold ur hand babes. Cassian was not always by her side, Cassian hurt her intensely and the rest of the book completely ignored it. Also, tf is a “real” stan. I’m not dickriding the author for this poor excuse of a relationship. Sarah J Mass has a very set criteria for her love interests. They have to be older than the ML, they have to somewhat train the ML and they’re always gonna be super duper powerful. This means that a lot of these relationships aren’t healthy. Nesta deserves better.
Yall im gonna kms. NESTA IS 25. SHE IS 25 YEARS OLD AND IS GOING THROUGH SO MUCH SHIT. at this point I’m just pissed, like. Nestas literally my boo and everyone around her treats her like shit all the time. “Oh yeah, she’s displaying suicidal tendencies and definitely isn’t doing ok. But can she do this for us?” I hate you. I hate you so much. Leave my girl alone. NOT TO MENION CASSIAN?? Swear to god that man can catch these hands on any day of the week.

I get so annoyed when I see people compare elucien situation to real life scenarios. Especially when they say, omg I can’t count how many times I didn’t want a man, and people would say he is so nice just give him a chance.
I always look at them like their crazy because firstly this is not real life it’s fiction 👀👀  and secondly even if it was, the situations are so vastly different .
Lucien did not just see Elain randomly on the street, become obsessed, develop a crush on her and randomly start coming every solstice with gifts even if he knew she wasn’t interested. That’s so out of character for the Lucien we know especially because he lost the Love of his life in such a brutal way. So he won’t even bother if a female supposedly didn’t have interest in him.
Elain is legit his MATE. Which changes everything. And considering what we have read in this books about mating bonds, trust me Lucien is actually doing a lot better than most of the males. Rhys legit breaks Ferye’s hand just to get her to spend time with him, and he probably didn’t know this then, but I have a strong feeling the mating bond was urging him to get her close to him and that was his only resort.
We don’t even give Lucien the actual flowers he deserves for trying everytime to hide his longing looks from her, not once but every single time. Longing that he can’t even control mind you. Cassain legit followed Nesta around with longing looks even after she told him to leave her alone. It’s very obvious this mating bond causes the men to feel things they can’t control. Lucien has so little agency in the scenario it’s hurts to think about. Elain even has more agency than him and that’s legit because of him. Because he gives her all the agency. The ball is in her court.
Also, I always think about how when we enter his head we see that wanting Elain is now ingrained in  his natural instinct. Do you know how hard that must be to fight???
The way people act like he can just be like yh sure she doesn’t seem interested so bye is so stupid to me.
So please forgive me for saying that I want Elain to give the male who she is bonded with for life, and who can go crazy if she rejects him a chance. That makes me so misogynistic.
Either they are really confused on how romance books work or they are being willfully ignorant all because that particular argument suits their ship so they're holding onto it like a life raft.
Lucien is not "the real life guy who just won't take the hint".
Lucien is a fictional, HOT character, one who many people in Prythian have wanted physically, one who many characters have commented on how good looking he is, how well dressed he is, how he knows how to fight, how he's loyal, how he's smart etc., one who is one of the authors favorite and who we know she always intended to end up with an Archeron sister.
The "nice guy who won't take a hint" is literally just a nice guy who doesn't have the thirst trap energy that Sarah has written Lucien as having "Autumn Court males have fire in their broad and they fuck like it too" "Sculpted chest, hard muscles of his shoulders, broad hands".
The authors intent with Lucien has been spelled out for us early on, and it's never been "nice guy energy." This is a future High Lord we're talking about who commanded Cassian with a single word before he even has his full powers. And the author's (emphasis on who wrote these books and characters since it seems to be something E/riels forget) opinion of Lucien and Elain was told to us in interviews:
Sarah J Mass: "That reminds me! Lucien and Elain would go to London and tour through the gardens before making their way out to the countryside. They are pretty much happy to be out in nature the most."
Sarah, unprompted to speak of Elucien, provided her headcanon for where Lucien and Elain would vacation together. Why would Sarah EVER say something like that if she knew Elain would only look at Lucien as the guy who couldn't take a hint? Wouldn't it be a little odd for her to imagine them spending a vacation together if she planned on making Elain truly uncomfortable with him? For gods sakes, E/riels can't even handle the fandom shipping Elain with anyone but Az but here you have the author herself playing out a happy little scenario with Elain and her mate yet somehow we're misogynistic?
The author also made Lucien 120% respectful of Elain's need for space right now. The "real life guy that can't take a hint" would be forcing his way into her orbit (cough cough Rhys and Cassian, cough cough) and forcing her to hang out all the time.
It's wild how much E/riels punish Lucien for a bond that took him by surprise, a bond that he's only tried to be respectful of since it snapped. "But Elain this and Elain that!". I'm going to stop things right there because it's not just Elain's bond, it's their bond and if the past has proven anything to us Sarah doesn't just care about her female main characters. She's on record as saying Rhys was a gift to her, that she'd take Rhys with her to a private island, that Rhys is great no matter what Nesta thinks of him. So when they try to act like this is all about the FMC, they're lying to themselves because Sarah fangirls hard over her MMCs too and she's not going to care only about what Elain wants when she's clearly been building up for Lucien and his HEA ever since book 1. And let's not forget that she already told us Elain took her by surprise by being the one for Lucien so clearly what Elain wants in the end will be her mate.
I have read hundreds of romance books at this point and nobody is set up the way Sarah set Lucien up only for him to end up as "the nice guy who won't take a hint".
And even if she had, since these are FICTIONAL books and not anything we'd experience in real life what with winged men, immortal lives, every single fae male being hot and tall and beautiful and well built (even the old ones and villains) then I think it's safe to say they don't have to worry about Elain suffering any real consequences from someone who "isn't taking the hint". (Weird how they never bother mentioning how that was the canon scenario with Az when it came to Mor yet they treat Az like he's a poor wittle baby who just wants love). Literally nothing is happening to Elain when Lucien comes around at Rhys and Feyre's request. He's polite, does not push her to interact with him yet he still buys her beautiful gifts that he doesn't even show frustration over when she barely thanks him. He doesn't push and provoke her the way Cassian did Nesta, he doesn't force her into spending time with him the way Rhys did to Feyre. He doesn't punch her in the face the way Rowan did to Aelin and he doesn't call her a spoiled party girl the way Hunt did with Bryce. Lucien is the least problematic of all Sarah's MMCs so it's actually really funny how hard they try and drag him.
As you pointed out above, these two characters share a mating bond so yeah, it's kind of an obvious thing to ship them no matter where things are currently at in their arc? As I said above, the author of this series imagined them happy which means she clearly envisioned them overcoming their current obstacles. I can't imagine this is the first book some have read where the FMC "ignores" the MMC and in many of those books the characters end up ridiculously in love. I'm reading a book right now where the FMC initially found the MMC stuffy looking with "muddy brown eyes", where she first lusted after one of his friends who was incredibly built. But halfway through and suddenly the Adonis wasn't doing it for her anymore while the stuffy guy was turning her on and she realized that up close his eyes were hazel, full of greens and golds alongside the brown.
This line:
So please forgive me for saying that I want Elain to give the male who she is bonded with for life, and who can go crazy if she rejects him a chance. That makes me so misogynistic.
Exactly. Elain / Lucien and Az / Gwyn are a HEA for everyone. Elain, while always feeling a tug to Lucien but ending up with Az while Az continues feeling a spark in his chest for Gwyn and where Lucien ends up suffering the effects of rejected bond sounds like the worst romance imaginable. Sarah clearly wants all her characters to have the most incredible love story possible and when she's already told the readers that is a well matched mating bond, then why would she have anyone settle for less?

“Enemies to lovers this” “Slow burn that”
“Colleen Hoover this” “Sarah J Mass that”
Everyone wake the FUCK up to the weird-ass relationship between Ged and Tenar from The EarthSea Cycles. They are my best little blorbos with bildungsromans.
He breaks into the sacred catacombs of her weird-ass cult. She traps him in there and keeps on threatening to bury him alive. He is fully dependent on her for food, water, and light and she tricks him and makes fun of him and is SO annoyed that he doesn’t give her any big response. They eventually become friends and escape and they could live together but because Ged is the MOST powerful Mage in EarthSea and also a celibate traveling monk he leaves her. Time passes, Tenar has a family, adopts a badly-scarred daughter (whose father is a dragon?) but when they are both in their mid-50s they FINALLY get together and Ged returns to being a goatherd on his home island. What the hell was that.

She also knew why he couldn’t do anything in the first book. Feyre’s working brain cells actually functioned enough to understand that Tamlin’s powers were bound, not just her life was in jeopardy, Lucien was able to act in his place yet got punished every time for it, and the second Tamlin got free he killed Amarantha to avenge her death.
The retcon Feyre ‘conveniently’ forgot all of this and claimed Tamlin was changing the narrative.
No lie I have no idea what Feyre expected Tamlin to do when they were at UTM, she's mad at him because he didn't "do anything" for her but like what was he supposed to do? Amarantha is literally one of the most powerful creatures in Prythian (mind you she made Rhysand, Rhysand the all mighty powerful High Lord her whore) So like????

A book written for women by a woman
Romance at its peak.
A man is not enough to tell this story: a woman invented a whole new species. Let’s make it fae, give them wings. Let’s make it feral. Horny is too masculine, too vulgar. So let’s make it primal urges, something in their gut telling them “this is the female that was promised for me by the Gods!”
Her scent, her voice, the taste of her skin. Yes, let’s make him beg for a taste. A life without her is just survival. And there’s only one! No, real life doesn’t have a part in this tale: this male is only feral for his personal Venus.
Consider this scenario, all this factors to just hit the right dopamine spot in a woman’s brain. God, it’s good to be a woman!
And then, you have people pulling “it’s just lust” from their pocket. Uh, the cold shower.
So… you’re telling me that Sarah J. Mass, finally enjoying the opportunity to write in one of her favorites male characters POV, decided to flip the script in her romance telling? You’re telling me Azriel was written as just “hungry for pussy”?
I saw the term “childish” being used to describe Elriels. “They need to stop saying is love! It’s such a child behavior, the man is just horny!”
You forgot that this is a book written for the female gaze. Love and feral needs are both the same. I’m comfortable wearing my pink glasses enjoying my fantasy book, fully trusting this male to be in love with the only one he wants. Because that’s how it’s supposed to be read! I don’t need to be guarded reading this type of book, questioning a male’s intentions. I’m safe, the dangerous things are outside the romance part. Monsters, demons, evil kings. There’s no fuck boys in fantasy, you can relax.
If you are judging fantasy actions based on real life morals and standards, you’re doing it wrong. Here, let me help you: have my rose-colored glasses. I will draw you a bubble bath, and serve you a pink lemonade.
Let’s just enjoy being a woman, let us have this, yes?

To All the Fandoms I've Loved Before
Throughout my life, I've regularly participated in fandom—from enjoying art and AMVs/edits to writing fanfiction for Naruto, Supernatural, One Piece, and more. So, it's safe to say that I have a lot of experience watching the highs and lows of different fandoms.
And, trust me, I know the sting of finishing a series and learning that a ship I've loved for years hasn't been made canon. The frustration when a character I love dies. How a story deviated from what I hoped. It sucks! However, I also remember the hysteria too. Happening again and again. The malicious attacks and inappropriate conduct. Over and over.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, here are some examples:
SasuSaku blogs were flooded with threatening messages after Sasuke and Sakura were confirmed to be a couple
Kikyo stans were harassed out of forums, YT comment sections, etc., simply because they might've preferred her character over Kagome's
Genevieve Padalecki and Danneel Ackles endured a barrage of online attacks, bullying, and threats because they married Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester)
Amanda Abbington, Martin Freeman's ex-wife, faced similar attacks after she was cast as Mary Morstan in BBC's Sherlock—simply because some fans believed she was "getting in the way" of Johnlock
Prior to the Vox Machina animated series, when the campaign was still streaming, many people within the Criticial Role fandom villified Marisha Ray for her relationship with Matthew Mercer, wherein she became the victim of excessive online harassment and bullying
Laura Bailey portrayed Abby Anderson in the Last of Us II, a character who is highly controversial amongst fans. As such, Laura was subjected to mass online harassment and death threats. It was so bad, ign reported that HBO has increased security around Abby's live-action actress, Kaitlyn Dever.
Some Klance and Allurance stans routinely trolled and harassed each other—inciting such extreme inter-fandom conflict online that their "war" spilled into non-ship related content, discouraging others from interacting with the Voltron fandom entirely
Matt Smith faced unfair online criticism at the time of his casting, simply because he was the follow-up act to David Tennant's iconic Tenth Doctor—only for Matt Smith's iteration to be one of the most beloved incarnations ever
The frequent and ongoing racism POC cosplayers face every fucking day—slurs, threats, and more
The Cassandra Clare fandom came for the throats of anyone who had fair and justified criticism of both CC and her work—particularly around copyright infringement
The same thing can be said about the Sarah J. Maas fandom
2010s Tumblr blogs falsely accused John Green of pedophilia because he wrote contemporary romance YA—harassing him for months on Tumblr, and practically driving him off the platform
Marvel fans spread rumors about Brie Larson, accusing her of being an "arrogant racist" because they didn't like her or the MCU's depiction of Carol Danvers
Legend of Korra stans are still targets of misogynistic and racist rhetoric online—both here on Tumblr and on TikTok
The Durarara!! discourse of the 2010s was so fucked up, so vile, people disengaged from the series and the fandom entirely. This affected sales and the second season, which never really gained the traction it deserved because of how insufferable and toxic Durarara!! fans proved to be during the original run of the first season—I mean, people were harassing cosplayers at events! That's how bad it was
I could go on—and on, and on, until this post is nothing but a harrowing list of how people can't seem to behave themselves.
And, these behaviours need to fucking stop.
So, to reiterate what I've said on another post, but targeted towards a wider audience:
Your feelings of disappointment do not give you the right to harass others online
Your feelings of frustration do not give you the right to harass and bully actors, creators, and writers ever—online or otherwise
Your ugly biases will never justify viciously attacking women, POC, queer people, disabled people, and fat people in fandom spaces
You're entitled to feel your feelings and have your opinions. You're allowed to express your disappointment online and within your own community. But don't go around attacking others because of said feelings—this concept really isn't that hard to grasp. And in the same vein, don't incite conflict with fans who are disappointed to gloat about your "victories." Neither of these actions are productive and simply contribute to the growing toxicity in fandom spaces.
The only exception to this, of course, is if you're racist, ableist, fatphobic, homophobic, transphobic, etc. Cause if you're any of those things, you're disgusting and block me right the fuck now. This blog is NOT a safe space for you.
Sincerely,
A jaded fan, sick of the toxicity

I thought of a counter to the argument "tamlin didn't teach feyre to read but rhys did"
Um yeah because feyre said she didn't want too in the first book before they went under the mountain and then after yeah tamlin didn't ask again but feyre had literally just gotten free after being held captive and tortured! Of course no one was going 'hey you wanna learn how to read now?' Right after that happened and especially after her not being able to read nearly got her and lucien killed.
even later feyre was so fucked up and depressed she couldn't plan her own wedding! She was so tired and exhausted and yes at this point tamlin should have checked in with her should have asked her what she needed him to do but that doesn't mean teaching her to read, that wasn't even on her radar.
I've seen some arguments that's that tamlin didn't teach her because he wanted her to be dependent on him but i don't think that's the case. If tamlin wanted her to be dependent on him he wouldn't have allowed her to be so reliant on ianthe or be so close to lucien or alis, both of which would have taught her if she asked,(lucien especially quickly). If feyre had asked tamlin he probably wouldn't be able to do it himself but he would have found someone to teach her.
He'll I'm not even sure we should count rhysand teaching her to read as totally pure since he wanted her to read the book of breathing before he found out it was written in freaky angel language.
This isn't me saying tamlin is an angel like he has some flaws but he isn't a monster he's just complicated like rhys the issue is that tamlin got complicated after Sarah j mass got tired of writing him.
