Lauderdale Long Term Parking: The Essential Guide for Travelers
Traveling can be exhilarating, but it often comes with the challenge of finding convenient and cost-effective parking solutions. For those planning an extended trip, Ft Lauderdale long-term parking is a crucial aspect of their travel arrangements. Whether you’re heading out for a month-long vacation or a lengthy business trip, understanding your options for long-term parking can make your travel experience smoother and more enjoyable.
Why Choose Lauderdale Parking?
When planning to leave your car at the airport or nearby facilities for an extended period, it's important to choose the right parking solution. Lauderdale long-term provides a range of benefits tailored to meet the needs of travelers:
Convenience: Proximity to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) means you won’t have to worry about lengthy commutes or unreliable transport services to get to your terminal. Many long-term parking options are just a short shuttle ride away.
Cost-Effectiveness: Compared to short-term or hourly airport parking, Ft Lauderdale parking is typically more affordable. By booking in advance, travelers can often secure even better rates.
Security: Reputable long-term parking facilities offer enhanced security measures, including surveillance cameras, well-lit areas, and on-site personnel. This ensures that your vehicle remains safe throughout your absence.
Types of Ft Lauderdale Parking
Airport-Adjacent Parking Lots: These lots are located near FLL and offer the convenience of proximity. They often feature shuttle services that transport you directly to your terminal. While they might be slightly more expensive than off-site options, the convenience can be worth the extra cost.
Off-Site Parking Facilities: Located a bit farther from the airport, these facilities usually provide more competitive rates. Many off-site lots offer free shuttle services to and from the airport, making them a popular choice for travelers seeking budget-friendly solutions.
Hotel Parking Packages: Some hotels near FLL offer parking packages that include extended parking in their secure lots while you’re away. This can be a practical option if you plan to stay overnight before or after your trip.
Park and Fly Services: These services combine parking with other amenities, such as valet service, car washes, or oil changes. They are designed for travelers who prefer a more luxurious experience and want to ensure their vehicle is in top condition upon return.
Tips for Booking Long-Term Parking
Book Early: To secure the best rates and availability, it’s wise to book your long-term parking in advance. Prices can fluctuate based on demand, especially during peak travel seasons.
Compare Options: Utilize online comparison tools to explore different parking facilities and their amenities. This helps you find the best value for your needs and ensures you choose a reputable provider.
Check Reviews: Reading customer reviews can provide insights into the reliability and quality of various parking services. Look for reviews that mention security, shuttle efficiency, and customer service.
Understand the Terms: Be aware of the terms and conditions of your parking agreement, including any potential fees for early returns or extended stays.
Conclusion
Choosing the right long-term parking solution can significantly enhance your travel experience. By planning ahead and considering your options, you can find a parking arrangement that meets your needs for convenience, cost, and security. Whether you opt for an airport-adjacent lot, an off-site facility, or a hotel parking package, ensuring a smooth parking process will allow you to focus on enjoying your trip without the stress of parking logistics.
With the right preparation, your vehicle will be secure, and you’ll have one less thing to worry about as you embark on your journey. Safe travels!

January 27 - Molly D has been busy since leaving Vero Beach on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Molly D transited from Vero to Hobe Sound (Jupiter).
Goodbye Vero!! See you again in March.
There weren’t any issues to the day’s travels. Amen! Molly D anchored for the night in an anchorage just off the ICW.
Hobe Sound anchorage.
On Wednesday, Molly D had a long, tiring transit day. Molly D passed through 18 bridges, only 1 of which was a fixed bridge. The bridge distances were fairly close thus making it difficult to make each opening on time without having to wait long. Nothing is worse than missing an opening bridge by a couple of minutes and then have no to wait a half hour until the next one. Molly D cut it close a few times, but the bridge tenders had no problem in waiting an extra minute or two for Molly D to get to the open bridge. All the bridge tenders we interacted with were pleasant and were considerate when it came to timing. We have had bridge tenders make us wait for a half hour (or sometimes an hour) although we were so close to the bridge.
One of the 17 “bridges of the day”.
Along the route to Lake Boca, we noticed many new homes being constructed and many docks being repaired or replaced. No shortage of money here!
Typical size of many of the homes along today’s travel along the ICW.
Molly D anchored for the night just off the ICW in Lake Boca, just off the ICW. No idea why it was called “Lake Boca”, as the anchorage was just off the ICW. There were close to a dozen boats in this anchorage but it did not feel crowded.
Sunrise in Lake Boca.
Thursday’s travel took Molly D from Lake Boca into Ft Lauderdale. Again, Molly D had to transit the ICW because offshore conditions were nasty. There were only 8 opening bridges along the route!
Arrival in Ft Lauderdale. All the buildings in the photo and one adjacent to the dock that didn’t make it into the photo are all new construction.
Molly D stayed at Pier 66 Marina. The Marina is undergoing a massive construction project. Despite the daytime noise and dust, Molly D was happy to be in a slip. Pier 66 provided us with a discounted rate because of the construction inconvenience. By the time Molly D was ready to move on, she was covered in dust and needed a really good washdown. That’s what dockside water is for!
Today’s travel to No Name Harbor (Key Biscayne) was done offshore. Due to one 52’ fixed bridge in Miami, Molly D was unable to travel the ICW (yay! No bridges!). The offshore route was no picnic. 20 knot winds on the nose with accompanying 4’-6’ seas. YUK! Uncomfortable but not unsafe. Gotta love Pringles, Dramamine and Emetrol for seasickness cure! I was entertained (distracted) along the way by a couple of frigate birds and a pelican. Frigate bird A had just caught a fish. Frigate bird B decided that it wanted the fish. An in-air fight between the two frigate birds ensued. It was like watching Snoopy and the Red Baron in a dog fight. Frigate bird A accidentally dropped the fish. Both frigates went after it. However, a lucky pelican who happened to be in the right place at the right time, scooped up the fish and swallowed it! The two frigates weren’t happy about that and proceeded to dive bomb the pelican for a minute or so before giving up and flying away. Very entertaining to watch!
Molly D will stay in No Name Harbor for two nights before moving on to Rodriguez Key.

Okay so other than the xavier riddle idea that is currently on the back burner (i can talk about it more if you want idk if i've told you i know i rambled to tobi though) and the scioly fedex au that i'm currently almost done with chapter 2 of (!!!), I had yet another idea while in the shower.
So circa halloween 2020, my mom had an idea to take my grandparents and my aunt/uncle/cousin on her side on a virtual cruise because we'd done an actual cruise the two years before but then covid and yeah. We called it squishmallow cruises and well it's expanded to squishmallow tours (road trips) and squishmallow resorts (cottage) but that's not super important.
Anyway we've had 3 cruises and 1 tour since with another tour scheduled for this winter break and a vague idea of one for spring break.
Then my brain pretty much goes "hey what if you used that as a fanfic?" so it'd have a chapter for each day the kotlc crew are on the cruise/tour and like Dex (because i project on to dex) and Sophie? (Because human) or Fitz? (Because he's a nerd like that. I think he would know geography) and everybody else would be unwilling participants.
Not sure which one of our cruises i'd go with but i'd go with one i already have in my google drive instead of making another one just for this. Cause i've got
Caribbean 1 - board in Ft. lauderdale, florida-> st. Penelope (squishmallow cruises' fictional private island in the bahamas) -> us virgin islands -> st. Kitts and nevis -> turks and caicos -> at sea (tea party) -> ft. Lauderdale. Overall quality was real bad because first attempt.
Caribbean 2 - board in Ft. Lauderdale -> usvi -> st. Lucia -> curaçao -> aruba -> at sea -> ft. Lauderdale. I don't have an immediate counterpoint to this one
Alaska - board in seattle -> at sea -> juneau -> skagway -> glacier bay national park (scenic cruising) -> ketchikan -> victoria (british colombia, canada). This is where we started adding youtube videos to our slide presentations for each of our excursion and it's the one i'm probably most familiar with
Ireland (tour) - this one's gonna be too difficult to list but basically fly into shannon, stay in ennis, stay in galway, then up to giants causeway, stay just south of dublin, then down and over to killarney and stay there before going back to shannon to fly home. This one was shortened to 3 days because we didn't want to do a whole week but it certainly deserved it
(Winter break) Italy (tour) - pisa, siena (tea party), rome, panicale (squishmallow cooking channel-hey i could do something with fitz's baking), florence, and back to pisa to fly home. The only problem is that this isn't finished and i haven't lived through it that much and i don't have any slides
(Spring break...maybe) Scandinavia & baltic - copenhagen, aarhus, berlin, at sea, tallinn, helsinki, stockholm, copenhagen and go home. Unless i want until next summer for this i won't be doing this one for similar reasons as above
why i knew so much about alaska/british colombia with keefe's house location on the canon map, should make sense now. The itineraries were probably unnecessary but *shrug*
Idk if it'll happen considering the rate of the scioly au that'll only slow down more once the scioly season starts and i've got cyberpatriot starting monday so idk we'll see. It's not like someone else can take this one off my hands though. All the slides for the excursions live comfortably in my google drive and i'd rather not let my mom know that i write fanfic by sharing it with someone and the email notif pops up on her phone. I already almost broke the system by sending a word tracker google sheet to swan i'm not making that mistake again
Idk if this idea makes any sense and i haven't really given it much thought but hey we're suffering together :)
we sure are suffering together in the too-many-fic-ideas department, my dude. we are tired office workers banging our heads against our desks at how much paperwork (ideas) are piling up. but reading through this file was interesting! even if my geography-dunce brain didn't understand some of the specifics super well. (also, you're right, your extensive knowledge on british columbia and alaska makes more sense now.) also, that part about accidentally notifying your mom that you're a fic writer - mood. biiiiig mood.
my only question with this fun idea is whether or not the kotlc kids are going to all these places irl or doing virtual tours like you did. because that definitely changes up how the story plays out. i would say i'd give you ideas if you need them, but you're far more familiar with geography and virtual tours than i am. but i'm here anyway! to listen if you need me to!

Havana
Our Havana Vacation
Earlier this year the husband’s brother and his wife took a cruise that had a stop in Havana. They enjoyed the day there so much, they said they’d love to go back to spend more time exploring the city. That got us thinking….this year is our 20th wedding anniversary and in June our only son would be traveling for 2 weeks with a school group…..maybe we should take the opportunity to visit Havana ourselves. I mean, we currently live just a 45 minute plane flight away, why not!
I’d like to get a few details out of the way before I start telling about our trip.
1) Traveling to Cuba from the U.S. is still allowed, you just can’t go there on a cruise ship. Through some research we discovered that the easiest way was flying there under the Support for The Cuban People visa. We found it as easy as traveling to Mexico.
2) I recommend changing your US dollars to Euros or Canadian dollars (which ever has a better exchange rate at the time) before you go to Cuba. There is a 10% tax on exchanging US dollars in Cuba (also, when we were there, Euros and Canadian dollars had a better exchange rate than US dollars regardless of the extra 10% tax). When you get to the Havana airport, only change what you need to pay your taxi. You can get a better exchange rate at the banks in town than you will at the airport.
3) Water in casas and hotels (anywhere, I assume) comes from a large blue tank on the roof that is filled by a large water truck. I’m not sure how often they are filled, but you see the truck all over the city constantly filling tanks. We found out the hard way that you can run out of water. Now before you go on the “wasteful American” kick, we don’t/didn’t waste water. We took quick showers and shut the water off while brushing our teeth, etc., but it seems that the toilet continued to run one day after we left our casa. That evening we ran out of water during our showers. While our host was quick to switch the tanks and get our water back running, it would have been nice to have been aware of the water situation (and toilet situation) when we got there so we could have kept an eye on it.
4) They don’t have any emissions standards, so be ready for some pretty noxious fumes (Thank You EPA Emissions Standards!).
5) The average salary in Havana is $15-$20/month….yes, MONTH. So you will have many friendly Cubans offering to show you around, sell you cigars, take you to the best restaurants, etc. as a way to try to make extra money. Also, what we Americans consider a normal tip (15%-20%) is often the monthly salary for these hard working people. So be generous, gracious, and tolerant. These folks are just trying to get ahead while sharing their wonderful hospitality and beautiful country.
6) We booked all of our trip, except for the flight, through AirBnB (we flew Southwest). You can rent a casa particular for much less per night than a hotel room in the U.S. There are homes, condos, apartments, or just rooms available, depending on the type of trip you want to have. The casas are privately owned by locals, so the money is going to the Cuban citizens. You can also book tours through AirBnB. That’s what we did. These are hosted by the locals as well. The tours we took were very informative and certainly recommended.
7) There are two forms of currency in Cuba, the CUC which is the tourist currency, and the CUP which is the local currency. The CUC is very close in value to the U.S. dollar, so keeping track of how much you're spending isn’t that difficult. The CUP is worth much less (the CUC is worth 25 times as much as the CUP). So when you are looking at prices, make sure to note whether it is in CUC or CUP.
Now, on to the trip……
Day 1 - We flew into Havana from Ft Lauderdale on a Wednesday afternoon. Our casa host arranged a cab to pick us up at the airport. Our cab driver was waiting when we got there. The airport is about a 30min ride from Old Havana, where we were staying. The cost of the cab ride was 30cuc and we tipped on top of that. Also, I want to note that the cool classic ‘50s cars you see in all of the pictures are not the cabs that will pick you up from the airport. If that is what you are wanting, you will need to make special arrangements, and those cabs will probably cost a little more. Otherwise you will get to ride in a Russian Lada. Our host greeted us at our casa, showed us around the area, and helped us get settled. We scheduled a walking tour of Old Havana for our first evening so we could get a feel for the area and what we wanted to see/do (FREE walking tour: Welcome to Havana is the AirBnB listing). This is a tour I would definitely recommend. Our guide, Daniel, was a great host, knew much about the city and its history, and was happy to answer questions. The tour was listed as free, but you should tip what you feel the tour was worth. As I said earlier, the people of Cuba offer these services as a way to make extra money. Daniel works as a journalist and does these tours on the side. Our tour started at Parque Central, just a block from the capitol building (Explanada del Capitolio) and where all the cool ‘50s cars park and offer city tours. From there we learned the history of the Gran Teatro de La Habana (Great Theatre of Havana), and that the Explanada del Capitolio was modeled after the U.S. Capitol, but is one meter taller ;). It also has a diamond in the floor in the middle of the rotunda and the distance to every place in Cuba is measured from that diamond. From there we toured on foot to the Revolution Museum, saw the remains of the original walls of the city, the fort protecting Havana Port, and visited the four Plazas. We ended the tour at the Plaza Vieja, which was just a few blocks from our casa and was the location of one of the restaurants our host recommended. That evening we enjoyed some Cuban beer on the balcony while people watching.
Day 2 - After a surprisingly restful sleep (I was worried because I didn’t bring my pillow and the beds there don’t have box springs, just a mattress) we went to meet up for our second tour. This was to be a 9.5 hour nature walk and swim at Canasí Ecological Reserve. Well, after meeting the guide and checking the weather, we opted to head back to the casa and just wing it that day. And after it stormed all afternoon, we were glad we made that choice! We spent the part of the day, before the storms, exploring some of the areas we were introduced to the night before. We also began the husband’s quest for authentic Cuban cigars. After the storms started, we found a nice rooftop bar (covered) and watched the storms roll across Havana. That evening we enjoyed dinner at El Rum Rum de la Habana where the husband had the biggest lobster tail we’ve ever seen. Delicious and inexpensive (by U.S. standards)!!
Day 3- One of the best things we found in Cuba was the coffee! So our mornings were spent coffee shop hopping (kinda like bar hopping, but for coffee instead of beer). All that caffeine made the 8 miles we averaged walking each day a little easier. Our favorite place to stop was the Iberostar by Parque Central. There we could get one hour of wifi with the purchase of a drink. So coffee and stalking the son became our morning routine (#StalkerMomReturns). After our coffee, we spent the rest of the morning on the quest for cigars. After visiting one the government stores, the only place you can ensure you’re getting authentic Cuban cigars, we tracked down a classic ‘50s cab (a beautiful ’56 Ford Fairlane) to take us to the Vedado neighborhood for our final scheduled excursion. This last tour was a cigar tasting. We met at Cigar Passion (which also happens to be the name of the tour on AirBnB) and ordered drinks. We each received a Cohiba to enjoy with the tapas and mojitos while our host, Luis, told us the history of cigars in Cuba and what makes Cuban cigars special. Luis has worked at the cigar factory for 20 years and is now one of the tour guides at the factory. We were joined by a lovely young Russian couple. This was probably the most splendid evening of our trip. Our 2 hour cigar dinner turned into 3 hours of wonderful conversation. Luis was a great host. A definite must do when visiting Havana. After returning to Old Havana we enjoyed dinner at Esquina de Cuba, then back to our casa for drinks, cigars, and people watching.
Day 4 - During our tour on our first day, Daniel told us there is an art show every Saturday at the Paseo del Prado just down the street from Parque Central. So we left our Saturday open for this and to check out all the things we had seen but hadn’t had time to explore. When we got there we were surprised by a fun run taking place along the Paseo de Marti. Of course I had to stop and cheer for the runners, and be jealous that I wasn’t able to participate. The art show was very interesting with a mix from whimsical to political in a variety of mediums. Another recommended activity if you are in the Old Havana area on a Saturday. After the art show, we decided to take a city tour in a beautiful ’56 Cadillac. These tours last about an hour and cost 40cuc. Our driver spoke English very well and showed us all of the highlights of Havana…from Revolution Square and Lennon Park to the University and Hotel Nacional de Cuba. Another recommended experience.
Day 5 - Our host arranged a taxi to take us to the airport. We changed our left over CUCs back to Euros at the airport. While we probably should have done that at the bank in Old Havana, we didn’t think of it in time. The flight and customs was easy to manage. They just want to know what you purchased while in Cuba. I believe that you need to pay tax if it’s over a certain dollar amount, but with only a box of cigars and a couple of paintings, we were safe from extra fees.
While this was not your typical relaxation vacation, it was a wonderful cultural experience for both of us. The husband said that if he were asked to describe Havana in just one word it would be ‘alive’ and he is correct. The city is very much alive, and just like their music, there is movement everywhere.

I had so many non rev life things that I wanted to put out there, but felt bad leaving it all in the comments, so I'm reblogging this and adding my bits.
Like getting to the airport ridiculously early because A) you have to check in as soon as possible so that your name is at the top of the non rev list and B) you might not make it on that flight, so you've gotta be there in time to make alternate plans.
Sometimes, you go way out of the way to get to your destination. I remember one particular trip that I flew Little Rock to Baltimore to Orlando. Layovers can be ridiculous, too. Coming back from Phoenix once, we were stuck in El Paso for three or four hours. Didn't make it to Dallas in time for the last flight to Little Rock, so we had to stay the night in a hotel and catch the first flight in the morning. A couple upsides there was that the food in El Paso's airport was pretty good and they were getting ready to close, so they loaded us up; also, there were very few rev passengers on the El Paso - Dallas flight and the pilot's announcements were mostly NCAA basketball tournament score updates.
Plans will almost always change. Once, we were going to Melbourne, Florida and our initial plan was to make some sort of daisy chain of flights from Little Rock to Orlando and then drive to Melbourne. What ended up happening was driving from north of Little Rock to Dallas, flying a daisy chain of flights to Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale and driving up the coast from Ft. Lauderdale in the middle of the night.
There was also often an issue of deciding which child was mature enough to fly alone, because there was almost never three seats together available, which usually meant that my uncle would sit with my little brother and I would have to sit with strangers in some other part of the plane.
Ideal situation-- back of the plane, get chummy with the flight attendants who probably know your flight attendant uncle. End up going home with extra snacks or a deck of cards or something. Even better if your flight attendant uncle is with you. Once a flight attendant gave my brother a whole package of little bags of peanuts if he would save her a seat so that she wasn't stuck in the jumpseat. Also fun when your flight attendant uncle flies jump or deadheads your flight, then helps with cabin service. As a kid, it's always funny to see someone you know in an unusual situation like that. It's like seeing your teachers at a water park or something.
Flying with a ticket is fucking mind-blowing. Like... I'm on this plane and no matter how many stops it takes or how many people come on after me, they're not going to make an announcement and pull me off the flight? Is... Is that how normal people fly? Holy shit.
Also, and this might just be a Little Rock thing, we always got "randomly" pulled for extra security screening when we flew non rev. Don't know what that's about. Don't think it was racial profiling because my family is whiter than... Something funny... That's white. I've heard that they sometimes pulled you if you were flying without a return ticket, so maybe that was what it was. 🤷♀️
“My parents used to dress up to fly”
MINE TOO
MINE STILL DO
Except they have to lmao

Twelve Hours at Bonnaroo
My 2017 experience at the Manchester, TN based music festival.
“Are you going to Bonnaroo this year?” Max asked me on the phone one day. I let out a disappointing, “no” as an incredible family trip to Italy ate up most of my vacation days and it was hard to find an extra $800 lying around for a ticket and flight.
“Well, do you wanna go? Got an extra ticket if you want it” asked Max. I took 24 hours to figure out the logistics and eagerly agreed.
This was going to be my first year of no Bonnaroo in three years and I was extremely disappointed to be missing out as its by far my favorite festival. Fast forward to a month later and I was boarding (after running through the terminal, thanks LA traffic) my first flight of three to get me to Nashville.
Unfortunately, no flights worked out (that wouldn’t cost me $400 one-way) that I could make it back to LA in time for work on Monday so I had only had one day at Bonnaroo to make the most of it.
Working with Jonnie I was able to fly standby for all my flights (5 total round trip) and scored ‘em all for under $150. From Los Angeles, I flew to San Francisco then a red eye to Boston and an early morning flight to Nashville which got me in around 9:30am. From there picked up (my first) rental car and headed to the AirBnb where Max, his brother Ben and his friend Mary Martha were staying.
Getting there, it was so refreshing to drive on a highway that had no traffic and was surround trees. The AirBnb even came with a rooster that crowed each morning. It was great.
We made our way to a Target so Ben could get some warmer clothes for the night and Mary Martha could score some glitter for the festival. Afterwards we filled up on Chik-fil-a before returning home to get ready for the day.
Heading out around 2pm we got to the parking lot and immediately headed towards the entrance. We didn’t make it far before Ben noticed a table giving out Bonnaroo 2017 t-shirts…for free. We scored one each and a poster. After dropping them off at the car we turned right back around to head in.
Inside, I was trying to meet up with my brother, Andrew, but while we waited for him to get in, we explored the Oasis area which is new this year and is a giant beach in the middle of the festival grounds. We also took a trip down the giant water slide.
Texting with my brother he said the first band they were going to see was Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Although, we had never heard of this band before we decided to check them out. They were really good and had us jamming the whole time.
We failed to meet up with my brother and decided to try again at Jon Bellion who was playing main stage. I have seen Jon a few times and he was great as always but I don’t understand why he plays “All Time Low” so early into his sets – even if not his last song, it should be one of the final few, in my opinion at least.
I was able to meet up with my brother and some his friends, a few I knew from Ohio State. But then the rest of the group I came with left me to go find food so I finished the rest of Jon’s set with Andrew.
Next up was San Holo on The Other stage which had its tent blown off this year. San Holo offered a mesmerizing set complete with a group organized release of a bunch of colorful paint powder that was tossed up by a dozen or so audience members during his drop of “We Rise.”
I said good-bye to Andrew and his friends to meet up with Max and everyone. We planned to meet up later although this was the last time I saw all of them. Met up with the rest of the group for The Head and the Heart. Although great, we left early to make sure we got a good spot for Chance The Rapper.
Chance drew a huge crowd for this 8:45pm slot at the main stage. He ran through his hits, “No Problem,” All Night” and performed one of my favorites, “Sunday Candy” complete even with the Social Experiment.
Ben, Mary Martha and I left a little early (unfortunately missing “Same Drugs”) to get over to see Louis the Child. Although I had seen these guys a few times before, it was my first time seeing them since their EP, Love Is Alive came out and they were who I was most excited to see. These guys look like they are having the best time in the world when they perform and why wouldn’t they? They’re two 20ish year old dudes who are touring the world and playing music. After Bonnaroo they played Spring Awakening in Chicago the next day.
They ended their set with their first single, “It’s Strange” and as this point I was alone since the rest of my group had ventured off to see the start of Red Hot Chili Peppers. After what seemed to take forever to get to the main stage VIP area and waiting till “Scar Tissue” finished, I called Max and after 15 confusing minutes was able to locate the rest of the group.
Their set was jam packed with the hits as well as continuous moments of just jamming. At one point, in the our section several fireworks we set off right over our head. Whether these were legal or planned is still up for debate but we were in awe. They concluded a little before midnight and we made our way to our final act of the night, Flume.
Since I had seen Flume quite a few times as well I was looking forward to his set but I was somewhat disappointed and felt his set was too experimental and ended up just being a lot of noise – but this was hour #12 at the festival so what do I know?
We left the parking lot by 2:15am and made it back to the AirBnb by 3am. Back there, Mary Martha and I tried to convince Max to stay up and hang with us but he was not having it and kicked us out of his room shortly after we entered.
The next morning had us waking up slow and heading to Mimi’s Café for a less than delicious tasting brunch. An hour after returning I (unfortunately) headed out to the airport while everyone else left for the festival.
One flight to Ft. Lauderdale followed by the final flight to LA, where before giving me a seat, the Spirit attendant told me she wasn’t sure she’d get me on due to weight distribution. Luckily I must not have looked too fat to her cause she let me on as one of the last passengers. By 11:30pm I had landed at LAX and had successfully done a full day at Bonnaroo. Until next year…

If It's Monday This Must Be Florida
"WHOT on a hot Miami morning, November 24, 2025, playin' the hottest hits with the hottest news and that was "Empatica" by Cumbia de Colombia, number 5 on our top 20 chart of hotties here at WHOT. This is Michelle Marlin gettin' you up on Monday morning.
"Yeah, well, Monday morning . . . That's as bad as it can be anyway . . .
"But come on, you can do it!
"Anyway, here is a little light entertainment for you this morning: a surprising little girl, named The New Little Princess, is with us. She went viral last June with her 9th birthday party video, featuring four original songs and allegedly 'supersonic' piano playing . . . well, we'll see if she takes off this morning.
[Giggling in the background]
"She then pulled off another hit with her videopack "Caribbean Princess", filmed on the beach at Livingston, Guatemala: the song you heard last August from it must have been 'Moon Kid'".
"Finally, after she was a hit with her original 'Frijos Frijoles', at Pina Colada's Lincoln Park Fiesta in Los Angeles last September, Pina Colada signed The New Little Princess as their newest Latin star.
"And you're still only nine years old, isn't that right, Princess?"
"Aye, and will be another nine months or so, I think," says the Princess.
"But what's it like for you, being a superstar at your age? I mean, do you ever get to play?" Michelle asks.
"Play? What's that?" the Princess says.
Michelle laughs.
"I remember I used to do it in Guatemala but I don't think I've played once since we moved to America last September, unless it were a piano or a synthesiser," says the Princess.
"But isn't that rough on you, at your age? Don't you miss it?" asks Michelle.
"If ya dunno' think about somethin', ya canno' miss it," says the Princess. "I just always have to be somewhere, doin' somethin' and that's what I am thinkin' about. I'm no' sittin' there sayin' 'Oh, I wish I could be playin' or somethin'!’. Haven't got the time."
"And you've been touring early morning radio this month," Michelle says.
"Aye," says the Princess. "Every morning I'm somewhere else. We dunno' even go back to our house in Crummer Canyon anymore. Just stay in hotels ridin' the bullet from one town to the next. If it's Monday, this must be Florida."
"Got it, Princess!" says Michelle. "Good guess. Well, I guess, as the Chinese say, Little Princess, you live 'in interesting times'. Now, you have a new song for us?"
"Aye," says the Princess.
"Well, what's it called?" Michelle says.
"Freedom To Dream," says the Princess.
"And what's it about?" Michelle asks.
"Well, at first it was just I wanted Mummy to let me sleep longer," the Princess says, giggling. "But now I think it means somethin' different. Freedom for everyone to dream their future. Even the people of Guatemala."
"Yes, I know you've been fighting for your country through songs the past few months. But it's not even really your country, is it?" says Michelle.
"Well, I weren't born there, if that's what ya mean. But 'tis my country now, 'cos I've been fightin' for it. And the last thing the Presidenta did before she died, on Independence Day, was to make me a citizen!" says the Princess.
"OK, citizen Princess! Take it away!" Michelle says.
A slide guitar leads, with bass and percussion. The Princess' electric piano cannot be heard. The style of the music is like the first half of the video at the bottom of this page.
Then the percussion machine kicks in.
And then the Princess starts singing.
Somewhere, where the stars are brighter
Where the moon's light
Is a little more . . . magical!
Somewhere, where the air is clearer
And the people are more sincere
In their pursuit of justice.
Take us away from this
We wanna wake up in Wonderland
We wanna be free from the burdens of sanity
Just give us freedom to dream
We only want freedom to dream.
Please give us freedom to dream
We only want freedom to dream
. . . Sweet, sweet dreams
THREE ANGELS: Dream away, dream away now
Sweet, sweet dreams
THREE ANGELS: Dream away, dream away now
Sweet . . . yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Somewhere
Where the skies are bluer
Where the people are truer
In what they say and do
I'll be there
And when I get there
I'll be waitin'
Waitin' for you!
Take us away from this
We wanna wake up in Wonderland
We wanna be free from the burdens of sanity
Just give us freedom to dream
We only want freedom to dream.
Please give us freedom to dream
We only want freedom to dream
. . . Sweet, sweet dreams
THREE ANGELS: Dream away, dream away now
Sweet, sweet dreams
THREE ANGELS: Dream away, dream away now
Sweet . . . yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Don't wake me up
THREE ANGELS: Wake me up, wake me up
Never wanna wake up
THREE ANGELS: Wake up, Wake up
There's so much to do I don't wanna do
Places to be where I hate to be
And you're the only thing that I wanna see!
Yeah, somewhere, at the end of the rainbow
At the end of all the trouble
At the end of the day
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Somewhere, at the end of the song
That's gone on too long
This is what I
This is all I want to say
Take us away from this
We wanna wake up in Wonderland
We wanna be free from the burdens of sanity
Just give us freedom to dream
We only want freedom to dream.
Please give us freedom to dream
We only want freedom to dream
. . . Sweet, sweet dreams
THREE ANGELS: Dream away, dream away now
Sweet, sweet dreams
THREE ANGELS: Dream away, dream away now
Sweet . . . yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Ends with, one octave apart: "Sweet . . . dreams."
"Wow, Princess, what a song!" Michelle says.
"Cheers, Michelle," the Princess says.
"And you thought that up all by yourself?" asks Michelle.
"It's not like that anymore. We all work on it together. We canno' say anymore, 'Oh, that's mine. That's his.'," says the Princess.
"And they get better that way, don't they?" Michelle says.
"Aye, truth be told," the Princess says.
"Here, have some Florida orange juice, Princess, to celebrate being here," says Michelle.
"Cheers," the Princess says.
"What d'you think of it . . . do people really call you 'Princess' all the time? I mean, you must have a name, don't you?" Michelle says.
"Yeah, the juice is OK. We have it in Guatemala, almost the same, not always so sweet. Well, me name is Mary Elizabeth MacAlistair-Castleton. In public, everyone calls me 'Princess' and I'm halfway kinda sorta gettin' used to it," the Princess says.
The Princess and Michelle both laugh.
"But me family and friends have always called me 'Mimi'," says the Princess.
"Wow, that's interesting . . . Mimi. You have more names than many people have credit cards," Michelle says.
"'Ve got nicks too," says the Princess. "Like, on the ICT, they call me 'the Altrincham Cat', because I grew up in Altrincham in England. In Guatemala, me friends called me 'Mimicita'. Dad calls me 'Little Bird' (mimicking his Cantabridgian accent) and Mum calls me 'Lassie' 'cos she's Scottish. And sometimes, what they call me on the ICT . . . I cannot say them now or I'll get a smack from me Mum, just there."
The Princess giggles again.
"Now, Mimi," Michelle says. "Is it OK if I call you 'Mimi'?"
"Sure," says the Princess.
"Do you wanna talk to your fans here in Miami-Dade County?" Michelle says.
"Sure. 'd love it!" says the Princess.
"OK, who have we got up first?" Michelle says. "Alexandria? From where? From Ft Lauderdale. OK, you're on Alexandria."
"Do you like to hang out at the beach?" Alexandria says.
"Aye," the Princess says. "And we've got the best beach in the world in Guatemala, called Playa Blanca, a pure deed knock-off of Heaven! We love to run our papalotes there along the sea and set them free to fly away."
"What are papalotes?" asks Alexandria.
"We fly them in the sky," says the Princess. "Uh . . . yeah, I remember! You call them . . . 'kites'."
"Oh, kites!" says Alexandria.
"Yeah," says the Princess."
"Did you ever go to Miami Beach? Or The Hub?" says Alexandria.
"No," says the Princess. "Dad and I used to go to Venice Beach when we first came to Los Angeles. We used to go there to laugh at the bampots. But now we're too far away and there's no time."
"OK, next question for the Princess," says Michelle. "Here is Tommy from the U of M."
"Hi, Princess," says Tommy.
"Hi, Tommy," says Princess.
"Look, you are doing these radio shows and singing these songs," Tommy says. "And a lot o' people like 'em. Hey, I like 'em too."
"Cheers, Tommy," says the Princess.
"Well, OK," says Tommy. "But do you feel you're getting anywhere? That junta is still in power in Guatemala and they even took over their neighbour, Belize, this month. I mean, don't you get frustrated? Are you going to accomplish anything?"
"Oh, Tommy, you dunno' know," the Princess says. "I sound happy, singin' these songs. And singin' makes me happy like it does everybody. But I cry me-self to sleep every night, in the hotels, sayin' 'how many people died in Guatemala today 'cos I wasn't good enough?' I'll tell you this. You say you like the songs. That makes me happy. Love to be loved. But if I were just doin' this for Pina Colada, for money, I wouldn't be so good. I'm singin' for me people. That's what I want people to understand. I have to be the best. I get singin' lessons every day."
The Princess sings "La, la,la, la, la, la, la," a C scale.
"Uh . . . a tad off there," she says.
" 'Cos me li'l voice isn't strong enough yet," says the Princess. "That's where I learn to do those one-octave stretches you've heard in me songs lately. And I work on breathin' . . ."
The Princess breathes through her mouth, audibly.
"'Cos people's lives depend on it," the Princess says. "This is not just singin' 'round the school piano for a lark like we used to do in Guatemala City. If I'm off, people won't send e-mails to their leaders. They won't put money in the Freedom Fund. And then me singin' is just backscatter, music to watch people die by. And I'd rather stand against that wall for fusilamiento in their place than do that!"
"But you can't overthrow a government can you?" Tommy asks.
"I know that," the Princess says. "But if I were single-handed, nobody would know about this, would they? Li'l girl, skrikin' on the playground. It's millions of you guys, la fuerza de los patojos movilizados, that made President Hemingway tell Congress what's happenin' in Guatemala. And I know, eventually, she and the other countries will do somethin'. You lot blocked up their inboxes last September with Guatemala messages, after "Elizabeth Rose" came out, they couldn't get any other e-mail: that's what we need, again and again. In my heart, I know President Hemingway, Prime Minister Benjamin, in Britain, all of them are good. They're just slow. We'll get them there. Keep the pressure on! And not only them because you lot dunno' have a junta: it's not just one bloke hidin' behind five. Me Dad explained this to me last night. You've got Representatives and Senators and all manner of things. Just like we used to in Guatemala. So now write to the lot: every one You've got to get all of them walkin' around your capital sayin' 'Guatemala, Guatemala, Gua-te-ma-la. Go and find out where that li'l country is and do somethin' about them.' Then we're in the road goin' ta freedom!"
"If anybody can get them there, little Princess, it's you," Tommy says.
"Och, chattin' macca: it's you - and millions like you. Never forget it!" the Princess says. "If ya ever start thinkin' the li'l 9-year-old patoja from Guatemala's gonna do everything - or anything - my people are a cooked tampado. If anybody can get them there, it's you, Tommy - and your friends and neighbours and relatives. So, Princesisto, get in the road!"
"I'm gonna go send some e-mail to the President right now," says Tommy. "And also the two Senators from Florida and the Congressman from the University district and the Governor of Florida, too!" says Tommy.
"That's the spirit, me bessie!" says the Princess.

Observing sunrises at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida/Carlos Pueblo
Finally, the ship landed at Fort Canaveral, Florida. I said farewell to
all my new acquaintance on the board and hope to meet them again.
I did make a mistake of arrival in central Florida and plan three days
stay at Ft. Lauderdale in order to visit Everglades National Park, as a
matter of fact, I was even scared to visit Miami due to fatigue and
almost penniless. The hostel allowed me to pay in credit card as well
as a sandwich shop. I got an opportunity to observe sunrises at a near
by beach for two mornings.
The beaches in Florida facing the Atlantic are similar pretty and attracting
many retirees out of states including Canadian. I have been to San Augustine
up to the north, Fort Canaveral- Cape Kennedy area, part of Miami and I still
dream to visit Key West down to the southern end, Tampa on the Gulf of
Mexico. I am pretty sure that I shall have the opportunity to embark at Tampa
For some other cruises.
I walked through a subdivision to the beach park very early in the morning before
day break. At the beginning, I didn’t see any one and gradually morning walkers
appeared with their company including their dogs. The bright sun light first burst
into the dark clouded air far away to the east, then gradually appears to the dark
cloud and sometimes disappears again until later hanging with a distance above
the horizon. I didn’t have the luck to see it on the second morning because of the
cloud and rain. All pictures from my camera showed very unique sunrises in compare
with many of sunrises photos from my previous trips around the world.
I was fully rested and ready to fly home to Houston, to avoid any other incident,
I took the rental vehicle directly back to the airport and change an earlier flight
with a penalty which was very worthy of it.

My Bag Missed It's Flight
After a week long vacation in New England, I was set to fly back to South Florida this evening. We arrived at the airport and approach the baggage check desk when the woman behind the computer told me that the plane I'm supposed to be boarding is at capacity and I cannot fly with my suitcase. I can fly... but it is staying in Providence. So I call my mom and tell her the situation and that I was sending my aunt home with my suitcase for it to be overnighted. That did not go over well because my mom did not want to foot the shipping bill. I asked the woman is there was a later flight for me to take tonight; I will just hang out at the airport for a few hours. She said that there is only one flight per day to Ft Lauderdale and it was the one I was supposed to be boarding. My alternative flight would be to Orlando. Normally, I would've settled for this but I had parked my truck at the Ft Lauderdale airport. So plan C was to drive to Boston to catch a flight leaving in 2 hours. Another unfeasible possibility. This is when I reverted back to just leaving without the bag. But since we wasted 30 minutes going back and forth with this woman that evidently possessed zero computer skills, I had 25 minutes before the plan took off. I told the lady to call the gate and ask if they can hold the plane for me to go through security. The pilot told her to call back after making some change to my reservation. When it occurred to me that at the rate she was typing my plane would take off well before she called the pilot back, I decided to just take my suitcase and stay an extra day. The real kicker is when the front desk attendant handed me my new flight itinerary for tomorrow evening, she so shrewdly said "Check in time begins in 19 minutes. I highlighted all pertinent information so you don't make this mistake again." Excuse me, what? Can you run that one by me again? If it weren't for you, I'd be on that plane! Anyways, my vacation has been extended a day. I was having a hard time leaving anyway. Maybe I needed this extra day.

No other corner of LA is deep in as much mythology as Hollywood.
It's here that you'll find the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Capitol Records Tower, and TCL Chinese Theatre, where the hand- and footprints of entertainment deities are immortalized in concrete. Look beyond the tourist-crowded landmarks of Hollywood Blvd and you'll discover a nuanced, multifaceted neighborhood of sometimes gritty streets are punctuated by edgy galleries and boutiques, where strip malls hide swinging French bistros and where steep, sleepy lanes harbor the homes of long-gone silver-screen stars.
