leon hates going into elevators. the claustrophobic feeling is too unpleasant, but he needs to get to the ninth floor quickly. the doors are about to close when he sees someone approaching. "up?" he asks as he holds the open button pressed.

The few seconds of silence that followed Kiera’s greeting felt impossible. There was temptation to flee. Dismiss the tension with a wave and generic promise to see them around soon, something oddly familiar in what had been a close friendship. Finally, he cracked a smile and approaching didn’t seem so terrifying.

“Yeah, keep trying. We’ll see where it gets you.” It would be a lie to say the thought didn’t intrigue her. In her streak of what could be considered rebellion, a tattoo seemed likely. There’s no one she’d trust to do it besides August, but even then.

She picked the lemon up from where he had placed it down on the table, studying the delicate lines. “It’s really pretty,” she complimented. Was it the correct thing to say? “Does it… hurt?” A level of curiosity, perhaps from contemplation or just searching for something to fill silences that were no longer comfortable.

“Couldn’t you just ask to do that kinda stuff? Y’know, specialise in it?” But that didn’t really matter if that wasn’t what walked through the door. Except Kiera didn’t really know how tattoo studios work. “You’ve clearly got a talent… for stabbing.” The grin on his lips reflected on hers.

August continued staring Kiera down for a few more seconds, his eyes sharp and unblinking, before finally breaking out into an easy grin. "I'll wear you down one of these days," he vowed. It wasn't the first time he'd tried to talk her into it over the years, though he never pushed too hard. Kiera wasn't like the other people (few and far between as they were) who actually spent time with him of their own free will. There was a part of August that was always kind of just waiting for the day when he did or said something too out of pocket and ended up scaring her off for good. Lately, it felt like that day was right around the corner, looming over the both of them like some sort of omen, and as much as August hoped that just ignoring it would make it go away he knew better than anyone it didn't work that way. He could keep pretending not to see it for one more night, though. So he just tilted the lemon towards Kiera so she could see the design, his own eyes wandering over the stark black lines, perfectly straight and just about as intricate as could be expected with this particular medium. "It's a snowflake. 'Cause, y'know..." he gestured a hand vaguely to the festival and the snowy ground around them. He put the lemon down on the table and pushed a hand through his hair as he added, "Dunno why I'm still bothering with the stick and poke shit, it's not like I'm gonna be doin' much of that in the studio. It's kinda sad, I guess, I like doing it the old fashioned way. Or maybe I just like havin' an excuse to stab shit." He shot her another small grin.

OH holy crap this slammed into me like a brick wall!!!

So I read a few fics were Zeref gets redeemed and his curse is lifted or altered in some way so that he can be around people again. In some of them there is even a nice reconciliation between August and Zeref where Zeref learns about the son he never knew he had.

(like in World's End: Aftermath by CairnCircles which is a fantastic story and Cairn deserves all the love)

But anyway one thing I've never seen is the fact that Brandish considers August to be her grandpa...

Just think for a second.

About the sheer hilarity.

That would come from that realisation.

Not only would Zeref have gained another son (if he finally recognised Larcade as his son too instead of leaving the poor guys behind) but he also would've gained a pseudo-great-grandaughter.

Then you've got the opposite where the news finally breaks to everyone about Augusts relationship with Zeref and everyone is shocked that something like this has gone unknown for so long. Then you've got Brandish in the background freaking out because if August is her grandpa what does that make the emperor then?!?!?!

Ughhh okay I feel much better now that that's out of the way.

(You've also got the added hilarity of Natsu finding out that Brandish is his kind of not really great-niece and him absolutely committing to the role of great uncle whether she wants him to or not)

"you got jokes, huh?" leon chuckles as he walks towards august. "did you get here long ago? god, i hope to get shitfaced tonight. i really need it. face the consequences tomorrow, you know?" he shrugs his shoulders.

August smiled wide as he looked over and saw Leon stepping into the party and talking about how he was ready to party. "Oh my gosh, let me act surprised that you're ready to party." August mentioned to him as he shook his head slowly.
