Vio and Shadow are spending some quality time together. Vio is reading a book he's been after for a while, and Shadow is practicing his control of his magic. When Vio is done reading they are 100% going to gossip about the chain

A redraw of that one picture of Vio after "killing" Green except without Green because I didn't want to draw him.
Eight and a half hours. I love it yet hate how curved yet sharp it is at some parts if you look closely.
Anyway, thanks @theachskid for being on a call with me while I finished this. I was tired of listening to the same twelve songs on repeat. :)
Also a bloody version under the cut because I wanted to :D

The blood is Eugh but I tried my hardest😭🙏I'll take constructive criticism.

Younger Than Meets the Eye
Summary: Vio, Green, and Blue come to terms with Red's age regression.
Words: 847
AO3 pending
Please reblog, likes do nothing on their own!
Vio set his book aside, unable to concentrate, and cleared his throat. “Are you not worried about him?”
“What do you mean?” Green asked, and Vio silently pointed at Red.
Green didn’t see anything wrong, exactly. Red was sitting a ways off from them, happily dragging a stick through the dirt.
“He seems fine to me?” Green said, not sure what Vio was getting at.
“Yeah, at least he’s not crying,” Blue interjected.
Vio sighed, like he always did when the others were too slow to see his point. “We know that it’s not exactly normal for Red to cry as often as he does. The nature of his role while split excuses this. What’s not excused is the disparity between his age and his behavior.” Vio paused expectantly, scowling when Green and Blue only offered blank stares. “He… doesn’t act as mature as we do,” Vio explained. “Haven’t you noticed that he’s taken to acting almost like a toddler?”
Green frowned. “I mean, yeah, but what do you want to do about it? Should we snap him out of it?”
“No.” Vio said immediately. “We don’t know what it could do to him. We can keep an eye on him… but don’t mess him up.”
****
Vio spent the next few days poring over a small selection of books from the library. He searched for information regarding the brain, development, and behavior. He ended up finding a single paragraph. A passing mention, a note to conduct more research in the future. The description matched what he had seen from Red, though, so it would have to do.
Just to be sure, Vio decided to observe Red one more time. He was able to find Red alone, and approached him with what he hoped was a kind smile.
“Hey Red,” Vio greeted, sitting beside him. “What are you doing?”
Red looked at Vio, the light visibly leaving his eyes. “Um… nothing.”
Vio picked up one of many toy soldiers that were scattered on the floor around them. “Are you playing with these?”
“No! No! No.” Red snatched the toy out of Vio’s hand, clutching it close to hide it.
“It’s okay if you are,” Vio said calmly. “I won’t make fun of you.”
Red frowned at him. “Yes you will. You always do.”
“Well… I want to make an effort to stop doing so. I’ll talk to Blue and Green too.”
“Really? I can do what I want without you guys being mean to me?” Red’s voice was soft, and Vio smiled genuinely this time.
“I’ll do my best. I know that we’re not always the best at showing that we care for each other.”
“Nuh-uh, you’re not,” Red giggled, and Vio tried not to flinch as his brother poked his arm. “I wanna help us get along even though you’re all grumpy about it.”
“Well, I can try to help,” Vio sighed. “Let me go find Green and Blue. Have fun with your toys, Red.”
Red happily returned his attention to the little soldiers, and Vio left to find their brothers.
****
“Were you able to find out what’s wrong with Red?” Blue asked, sitting impatiently on a couch beside Green. Vio paced in front of them, giving a predictable sigh.
“You know how our bodies and minds are already out of sync,” Vio started, waiting for his brothers to nod. “Minish magic prevented us from growing past the height we boasted at ten years old, while mentally we have fourteen lived years of experience.”
“Yeah, and we act fourteen ‘cause that’s what we are,” Green said. “But Red, as you pointed out, acts like a toddler.”
“Yes. I believe it has something to do with life circumstances rather than his personality. I’m not sure why he’s the only one who exhibits this behavior, but I won’t object,” Vio agreed.
“Just get to the point already,” Blue groaned, tilting his head back.
“Red’s brain, as a way to cope with things that overwhelm him, frequently regresses his age. I’m not well-versed on child development but I would guess that he regresses to around four or five years old. It’s evidently not an issue during battle or most social events, as he acts mature then, but during every safe moment he finds, he takes on the behavior of a toddler,” Vio listed off, watching for his brothers’ continued attention.
“So, there’s nothing we can do about it?” Green asked.
Vio shook his head. “No, it’s healthier to let him cope in the way he’s accustomed to. However, I spoke with him and promised that we would make an effort to treat him better. Don’t make fun of him, and try to encourage his play and escapism if reasonable.”
“I can’t make any promises, but I can try to treat him like a kid if that’s what he wants,” Blue said, still somewhat confused.
“Ask Red first, but yes, I believe that would help,” Vio said with a nod. “This isn’t the oddest thing any of us have experienced, and it’s our responsibility to keep each other safe.”

What if Vio did break the mirror...?
Would he have played his friend to the end, sitting next to the dying Shadow...?
Would he have watched silently and without emotion on his face as he died...?
Would he have run away immediately, not wanting to see what came next...?

I hope you don't mind but....
Can I get some vidow in these trying times?
Oh! No I don't mind at all! Here's a cute snippet that's been marinating in my head!
Shadow was really trying to pay attention. He swore he was. Vio had lectured him time and time again about keeping his mind focused on what the teacher was saying so he didn't end up repeating the Great Tingle Debacle of last year. He is really really trying.
But it's not like Vio is making it easy. The light streaming through the window catches on his platinum blonde braid and makes it glow. Lose strands float around his head, creating a halo in the bright sunlight. Vio has his Concentration Look on his face as he stares at his computer, that adorable expression where his eyebrows furrow and lips pout and Shadow just wants to kiss him so damn bad.
"Shadow," Vio's stern voice snapped Shadow out of his mind and he whipped his head up to look at his boyfriend.
"Pay attention" Vio reprimanded. He went on to say something else but Shadow's eyes had fallen on Vio's computer screen, which displayed a half finished crossword instead of the assignment they were supposed to be working on.
"Why don't you follow your own advice?" Shadow blurted out, and Vio's eyebrows furrowed in confusion before glancing down at his computer, which he slammed shut a second later.
Shadow let his familiar self-satisfied smirk fall onto his face as the tips of Vio's ears went pink.
"Well," Vio said after regaining his composure. "You look very smug,"
"Mmmhmm," Shadow hummed, leaning forward a bit in his chair until he was mere inches from Vio's face. "And what are you going to do about it?"
Vio rolled his eyes and before Shadow knew it, was pressing his lips to Shadow's own. It was over in just a second, but the brazenness of the kiss stunned Shadow for more than a few moments afterwards.
Shadow let out a contented smile as he watched his boyfriend return to his crossword. Man, he really loved Vio.
