Kinda wish there were more random anecdotes about these three during the campaigns of the 6th coalition war. Seems to me that they would have had a weird dynamic; you have one guy too shy to speak in grammatically correct sentences, one charismatic idealist and one guy who always seems 110% done with everything.

I'm trying to focus on what I liked about Episode 7 and my brain is just looping a few things.
-Was that Colonel Alkire at the camp heading up compound staff? I missed if he was named, but if so, I'm quite pleased to see him.
-Frank Murphy getting a letter from his mom ❤️
-The way the show approached the Great Escape. They managed to keep the focus entirely on the tragedy and incredulousness of the situation, and on how it could directly impact the American prisoners in the other compounds. It felt very balanced and very Great Escape in the context of MotA, not Great Escape eclipsing the show.
- MUSTANGS!!!!! MotA is a bomber-centric show and B-17s are incredible in how they can be beat to hell and keep flying, but fighter planes will always be my first love when it comes to WWII.
-Von Lindeiner's removal from his position as commodant being mentioned. He's someone I find very interesting, plus it's nice to have that hint of how there was a whole world of politics going on when it came to the running of the camps and the tension between the Luftwaffe and the Gestapo.
- I loved all the fountain pen shots we got to see this ep when folks were writing.
#gotta focus on the good#masters of the air#mota spoilers#MotA#MotA: Episode 7#ngl when they were saying who thier letters were from I pulled an Egan and said “his mom!!” when Frank was talking. i love Frank's mom#I say compound staff bc which compund? unclear. Some of the lads were in South and asked to move to Center#but then they were apparently in West at the time of the march so idk we're just winging it at this point#the p-51s could have had more/better screen time but the Tuskegee boys will be here soon hopefully#frank murphy#darr alkire#Friedrich Wilhelm von Lindeiner-Wildau#gonna leave out all the middle names bc holy hell would that be a long tag#stalag luft iii#hbo war#ken lemmons

Round 2: Friedrich Wilhelm III vs Wilhelm I
Friedrich Wilhelm III (r. 1797-1840)
A weak willed and indecisive man, it was only after immense pressure from his wife that Friedrich Wilhelm took up the banner against Napoleon. It was under his reign that the disastrous defeats at Jena and Auerstadt took place and that Prussia was carved up into the Confederation of the Rhine.
His promise of a constitution galvanized the Prussian people to take up arms, though he ultimately failed to follow through once the war had ended.
Despite his ineptitude as a leader and general, he was quite a good father. His marriage to Louise von Mecklenburg-Strelitz was a peaceful and happy one and his relationship with his kids was quite impressive for a Hohenzollern. (Note: Low bar - T)
Wilhelm I (r. 1861-1888)
Wilhelm der Große
As the second son of Friedrich Wilhelm III, it was never expected that Wilhelm would take up the crown. As was his duty as a German prince, Wilhelm joined the military. There he served under General Blücher in the campaign against Napoleon and won the Iron Cross for his valiant actions on the battlefield.
Nowadays he is fittingly known as "Wilhelm the Great" for his role in the unification of Germany. It was under his guidance that Otto von Bismarck was appointed Minister-President of Prussia during the 1862 crisis and it was with his permission that the Iron Chancellor reshaped the map of Europe to facilitate Germany's ascension.

„We are live here at the battle of Jena-Auerstedt and — wait, what’s this? IT‘S FRIEDRICH WILHELM III WITH A STEEL CHAIR!“
My thoughts on „what if the battles would’ve been a 1v1“.
Obviously I am biased, I don’t actually know who would’ve won. I‘m just giving Friedrich the height points here.
#don’t take it to seriously#it’s supposed to be a funny meme :)#Alex I am so sorry i couldn’t draw you pretty#you deserve better#friedrich wilhelm iii#frederick william iii#luise von mecklenburg strelitz#tsar alexander i#napoleon bonaparte#history#prussia#history memes#prussian memes#napoleonic memes#napoleonic shitpost#napoleonic wars#napoleonic era#matthes malt#honestly this is just for funsies pls dont take it too seriously

October 18th 1831: The Birth of Kaiser Frederick III
He was the eldest child and only son of Kaiser Wilhelm I and Kaiserin Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and was raised with Prussian military customs. He found solace in his wife, Victoria, Princess Royal, the daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert who shared his liberal beliefs. They met in 1851, when Frederick’s mother sent him to see the Great Exhibition and the 11 year old Victoria was the one to guide him around the exhibition. While Frederick was only able to speak only a few words in English, Victoria was already fluent in German. Something along with the young girl’s intellect and curiosity, impressed him.
They continued to exchange letters with one another after the meeting and Frederick proposed to Victoria when she was 14 years old in 1855. They were betrothed on May 19, 1857 and then married on January 25th 1858 in the Royal Chapel at St. James’ Palace in London, the couple had a happy marriage that endured the judgement of the unwelcoming Prussian Court, and had eight children. (The future Wilhelm II being their eldest.)
They planned to rule as co rulers, similar to Victoria’s parents and attempt to liberalize the deeply conservative Germany. But that plan would not see the light of day. Just shy of his 100th days since occupying the throne, Kaiser Frederick III succumbed to a long, painful battle with throat cancer, after many unsuccessful attempts to cure him. His son — Kaiser Wilhelm II who ascended the throne right after the death of his father remarked in an emotional outburst: “An English doctor killed my father, and an English doctor crippled my arm — which is the fault of my mother.”
