What Are the Best Methods for Storing Fresh Prawns to Maintain Their Freshness?
Storing fresh prawns to maintain their freshness is essential to ensure they remain safe and tasty. When looking for information specific to fresh prawns in Singapore, particularly from Ding Xin Seafood, you can follow these guidelines:
Keep Them Cold: Fresh prawns should be kept at a temperature close to freezing. Refrigerate them as soon as you receive them from Ding Xin Seafood to slow down bacterial growth and maintain freshness.
Use an Airtight Container: Place the prawns in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. Make sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn or moisture loss.
Store in the Coldest Part: Place the container of prawns in the coldest part of your refrigerator, usually the back or near the freezer compartment.
Separate from Other Foods: Keep the prawns away from other strong-smelling foods as they can absorb odors easily.
Avoid Extended Storage: Freshness is best maintained when prawns are consumed soon after purchase. Try to use them within 1-2 days for the best taste and quality.
Don't Thaw and Refreeze: If you need to use only a portion of the prawns, thaw only what you plan to cook, and avoid refreezing.
Ding Xin Seafood may have specific guidelines for storing their fresh prawns, so it's a good idea to follow any instructions they provide to ensure the best quality.
Always prioritize safety and quality when handling fresh seafood, and when in doubt, it's better to consume them sooner rather than later to enjoy the best taste and texture.

The Rise of E-Commerce in Asia-Pacific Shrimp Sales
In recent years, the Asia-Pacific region has experienced a significant transformation in its seafood industry, particularly in the realm of shrimp sales. With the advent of e-commerce platforms, the traditional methods of buying and selling shrimp have been revolutionised, paving the way for a new era of convenience, accessibility, and growth. This shift towards online marketplaces has not only changed how consumers purchase shrimp but has also opened up vast opportunities for sellers and producers across the region.
The Asia-Pacific Shrimp Market has been a key player in this digital evolution. As one of the largest and most diverse markets globally, it has seen substantial growth due to the increasing demand for shrimp, both domestically and internationally. Countries like China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam have been at the forefront of shrimp production and export, and the integration of e-commerce has propelled their market reach even further.
The E-Commerce Revolution
The traditional process of shrimp sales involved a complex supply chain, often with multiple intermediaries between the producer and the consumer. This system was not only time-consuming but also prone to inefficiencies and higher costs. However, the rise of e-commerce platforms has streamlined this process, connecting producers directly with consumers, both local and international.
1. Accessibility and Convenience: E-commerce has made purchasing shrimp more accessible to a broader range of consumers. With just a few clicks, individuals can order fresh or frozen shrimp from various producers, irrespective of their geographical location. This convenience has been a game-changer, especially for urban consumers with busy lifestyles.
2. Transparency and Traceability: Consumers today are more conscious about the quality and origin of their food. E-commerce platforms provide detailed information about the shrimp they sell, including where and how it was sourced, processed, and transported. This transparency builds trust and loyalty among consumers, who can make informed choices about the products they buy.
3. Market Expansion: For shrimp producers, e-commerce opens doors to new markets. Small-scale producers, who may have struggled to reach a wider audience through traditional channels, can now showcase their products to a global customer base. This has empowered local businesses and contributed to the economic growth of many regions.
Key Players in the Market
Several e-commerce giants and specialised platforms have emerged as key players in the Asia-Pacific Shrimp Market, facilitating the online sale and purchase of shrimp. These platforms offer a diverse range of products, from fresh, live shrimp to processed and value-added shrimp products.
1. Alibaba's Tmall and Taobao: China's e-commerce giant Alibaba has played a significant role in the online shrimp market. Platforms like Tmall and Taobao feature a wide array of shrimp products, catering to the diverse preferences of Chinese consumers. Alibaba's strong logistics network ensures timely delivery, even to remote areas.
2. Shopee and Lazada: Operating in Southeast Asia, Shopee and Lazada have become go-to platforms for shrimp purchases in countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. These platforms offer a user-friendly interface, secure payment options, and promotions that attract both new and returning customers.
3. Local Specialized Platforms: In addition to the major players, there are also specialised platforms focused specifically on seafood, including shrimp. Platforms like FreshCatch in Singapore and Lobster Anywhere in Australia provide a curated selection of premium shrimp products, often sourced directly from local producers.
Challenges and Opportunities
While the rise of e-commerce in the Asia-Pacific Shrimp Market brings significant benefits, it also presents challenges that need to be addressed:
1. Logistics and Cold Chain Management: Ensuring the quality and freshness of shrimp during transportation is crucial. E-commerce platforms need robust logistics and cold chain infrastructure to maintain the integrity of the product from farm to table.
2. Quality Control: Maintaining consistent quality standards is essential for consumer trust. E-commerce platforms must work closely with producers to implement quality control measures and certifications.
3. Competition and Pricing: The increasing number of sellers on e-commerce platforms can lead to pricing competition. Producers need to find ways to differentiate their products, whether through superior quality, sustainability practices, or unique offerings.
Conclusion
The Asia-Pacific Shrimp Market embrace of e-commerce has reshaped the industry, making shrimp more accessible, transparent, and diverse than ever before. Consumers benefit from a wider selection of products and the convenience of online shopping, while producers gain access to new markets and opportunities for growth.
As e-commerce continues to evolve, innovations such as AI-driven recommendations, sustainable sourcing practices, and improved logistics will further enhance the shrimp-buying experience. The future of the Asia-Pacific Shrimp Market lies in the seamless integration of technology, sustainability, and consumer preferences, promising a vibrant and thriving industry for years to come.

Tried calling Pizza Hut Singapore for delivery but just couldn’t get through to the operator so I personally made a trip down to their restaurant. Even then, I still had to wait for like a good 45 minutes before the pizzas were ready as they have plenty of pending takeaway orders. Anyway, their 50% off pizzas promotion is still valid so I chose one from their Christmas Cheesy Bites range and another from the Specialty menu.
Tumblr media
Couldn’t wait to dig into the Christmas theme Chicken Pop Cheesy Bites with Chachos Chips (S$22.45 after discount) pizza which came sprinkled with festive cheer, er… I meant red and green crispy bread crumbles. :D. Taking a slice, you twist and pull off the cheese filled bite at the edge of the pizza, dip it into the house special cheese sauce and pop straight into the mouth. After that, tuck into the spicy chicken pops loaded pizza with a base of cheesy and tangy thousand island sauce. I didn’t sprinkle the Chachos Chips on pizza but eat it like a side of chips.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next pan pizza is the Seafood Deluxe (S$19.20 after discount). Mum love this gooey pizza from the ocean with a combination of juicy prawns marinated in spices, succulent squid and tasty tuna. Having the fresh and crunchy prawns in the mix really add to the overall sweetness of the pizza.

What Type of Diet Does the Threadfin Fish Have, and How Does It Obtain Its Food?
The threadfin fish (Polydactylus spp.) is a marine species known for its unique dietary preferences and feeding habits. As an opportunistic predator, the threadfin fish primarily relies on its specialized feeding behaviors to obtain its food.
Carnivorous Feeding Behavior
Threadfin fish are classified as carnivorous predators, meaning their diet primarily consists of other aquatic organisms, particularly smaller fish and invertebrates.
Hunting Strategies
Threadfin fish employ several hunting strategies to capture their prey:
Ambush Predation:
Threadfin fish are skilled ambush predators. They often hide in underwater vegetation or structures, such as coral reefs or rocky crevices, waiting for unsuspecting prey to swim by. Once the prey is within striking range, the threadfin fish swiftly darts out to seize its meal.
Filamentous Feeding Adaptations:
Threadfin fish possess thread-like extensions on their pelvic fins, giving them their distinctive name. These filaments are thought to enhance their ability to capture small prey by increasing their reach and mimicking the appearance of small, edible organisms.
Nocturnal Feeding:
Many species of threadfin fish are nocturnal hunters, becoming more active during the cover of darkness. This behavior allows them to take advantage of the reduced visibility and increased vulnerability of prey animals at night.
Schools and Cooperative Feeding:
In some cases, threadfin fish may form schools to improve their hunting success. Cooperative hunting within a group can help them corral and capture shoals of smaller fish more effectively.
Dietary Variety
Threadfin fish exhibit a diverse diet that can include:
Small fish: They prey on juvenile fish that are often abundant near coastal areas and reefs.
Crustaceans: Threadfin fish feed on various types of crustaceans, such as shrimp and crabs.
Zooplankton: They may consume small zooplankton when larger prey is less available.
Feeding Adaptations
Threadfin fish have evolved specific anatomical and behavioral adaptations that aid in their hunting and feeding:
Sharp Teeth: Threadfin fish typically have sharp teeth that allow them to grasp and hold onto struggling prey.
Flexible Bodies: Their flexible bodies provide them with agility and quick maneuverability, crucial for both ambushing and pursuing prey.
Good Vision: Threadfin fish often have well-developed vision, which aids in identifying and targeting potential prey items.
In conclusion, the threadfin fish is a carnivorous marine species with unique hunting strategies and specialized adaptations that enable it to successfully obtain a variety of prey. Its ambush tactics, filamentous appendages, nocturnal activity, and dietary flexibility contribute to its survival in diverse aquatic environments.

Salivating over the best Chilli Crab in Singapore from 8 Crabs
Tumblr media
One of the must-eat dishes to eat when you visit Singapore is Chilli Crab. The luscious crabmeat marinated in the aromatic chilli sauce is a delicacy that will have your tastebuds dancing in delight.
In this review, I am reviewing one of my favourite seafood dishes aside from sushi, Chilli Crabs in Singapore and Cereal Prawns from 8 Crabs.
Tumblr media
8 Crabs Seafood Delivery Singapore
8 crabs is an award-winning Seafood Delivery service in Singapore that specializes in fresh and premium crabs from Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan crabs are bigger, filled with meat and taste better. These crabs are air-flown daily to Singapore. They are cooked by 8 crabs award-winning chefs and delivered to your home in under 12 hours. Since 8 crabs is a wholesaler and retailer, they can move their crabs and seafood quickly. Additionally, they can ensure that the crabs are treated humanely in a temporal environment to guarantee their survival.
To ensure the freshness of the crabs, 8 crabs seafood delivery only cook live crabs and discard dead crabs. Additionally, they have multiple kitchens around Singapore enabling the reality of an hour crab and seafood delivery.
With 8 crabs award-winning chefs reproducing authentic home-cooked seafood and crab dishes, you can enjoy a 5-star meal in the comfort of your own homes anytime you like.
Tumblr media
Award-Winning Chilli Crab
As a true blue Singaporean, ordering the Award-winning chilli crab is a must. The crab is an extra-large premium Sri Lankan Wild Catch Crab. 8crabs chose to use Sri Lankan Wild Catch crabs for their dishes for their crabs are not only bigger, but they also do not have an ammonia smell nor taste. The best part is, these crabs are free from harmful substances too.
There are 3 sizes of crabs to choose from Large (750g), Extra large (900g to 1kg) and XX-Large (1.2kg). The crabs are cooked in different sauces from black pepper to salted egg crab. Their recent addition is Tom Yum Crab and Mala Crab..
Tumblr media
Award-Winning Chilli Crab Review
The crabs were packed with luscious, fresh crab meat. These meat were juicy and bouncy. When dipped in the savoury and spicy chilli sauce, it explodes in your mouth. The tender flesh simply melts in your mouth as the tangy chilli sauce dances on your tongue. The dish has the iconic chilli crab taste that you can only find in Singapore. Needless to say, this chilli crab topped my list in the chilli crab zone.
Tumblr media
Fried Man Tou in Chilli Crab Sauce
Of course, the must-order dish when it comes to Chilli crab is fried mantou. A good piece of fried mantou must not be overly greasy and must be able to hold up its weight while it absorbs the sauce. 8crabs fried mantou can do all that. These golden mantous were also soft on the inside and firm on the outside, making them the best candidates for scooping up the sauce without falling apart.
Tumblr media
Fried Man Tou
Although the fried mantou comes in a set of 5, 8 crabs were generous enough to give me 9 mantous to enjoy with the chilli crab sauce. These golden buns were the perfect side dish to consume with the crabs. An idea you can try is to open the mantou, put some crab meat in between and dip them in the chilli crab sauce. This instantly turns the fried man tous into a chilli crab bun.

Premium Cereal Prawn
Another icon side dish that I love is the premium cereal prawn. Introduced by my secondary school friends, I remember trying out my first premium cereal prawn at a nearby Tze char stall. The idea of combining a western breakfast food and a cocktail dish blew my mind. It soon became one of my favourite dishes to order at a family gathering.
Since this dish was shared among my family members, I thought I’ll bring back the tradition and order a small portion of the premium cereal prawn. This small portion is suitable for 2 to 3 person. If you are sharing with a larger group of people, you can go for the medium (3 to 5 pax) or the large (6 to 8 pax).
Fried with curry leaves and chilli padi, the dish had a hint of spiciness amongst the sweet prawns. The toasted crunchy cereal adds a delectable taste to the prawns, turning the dish to a savoury and sweet masterpiece.

8 Crabs Seafood Delivery Singapore Review
8 Crabs Seafood Delivery Singapore provides top-notched crabs with the best sauce. Their cooking methods was superb and the dishes were delicious. A commendable aspect was their customer service. I had to change the delivery date and time due to a last-minute incident and through their online customer service chat, I was able to do that easily without any problems.
All in all, 8 crabs is a great crab and seafood delivery service to order form when you are craving for delicious crabs. They not only have meatier crabs, but they also pre-break some of these claws so that you can have easier access to the meat. This is perfect for those that do not have a crab cracker at home. I would recommend getting the chilli crab with man tous for they were a favourite in my family.

How This Seafood ‘Sourcerer’ Runs New York City’s Lobster Game
Tumblr media
Steven Wong sources the highest quality lobster for some of NYC’s best restaurants at his family-run business, Aqua Best Seafood Market
“Selling lobsters is definitely a complicated process,” says Steven Wong, owner of Aqua Best Seafood Market in New York City. “I’ve eaten so much lobster in my life I can actually taste the difference in where they caught it.” Wong and his family have been selling and shipping diverse seafood to customers, many of whom are restaurateurs for some of NYC’s best restaurants, for over 30 years. In that time, Wong has become known for his sourcing of high-grade lobster, so much so that he earned the nickname “the lobster ‘sourcerer’”
“A lobster’s not just a lobster. A lobster is just like a diamond,” says Wong of the many different types of lobsters he sources from all over the country. “There are different cuts, different grades, different sizes, there are different areas from where you catch lobster that have different qualities.”
Before COVID-19, the shop went through an average 60 to 80 thousand pounds of lobster per week, and during the holidays that number could be up to 150 thousand pounds. Wong’s company sells lobster and other fish to 175 restaurants in the northeast, and they ship anywhere in the world in under 24 hours; “even in Singapore,” he notes, “which has the longest flight, like 19 hours.”
Eater followed Wong throughout his typical day. His first task, which begins around around 6:00 a.m., is to fulfill special fish orders for specific restaurants. At 9:00 a.m. he receives an order of fish from Fulton Fish Market from his brother, and together he and his team sort the fish by type, weight, and region. At 11 a.m., Wong hand delivers lobsters to some of his restaurant clientele, like Le District in Battery Park where they make fresh lobster rolls, and Saigon Social in the Lower East Side. And at 1:30 p.m. Wong awaits another 5,000 pound lobster order at his distribution center, which has specialty tanks that keep the lobster alive, fresh, and ready for the next delivery.
“I think one of the key ingredients in cooking is fresh ingredients — what kind of ingredients you get, when you get it — so you can create the best dish,” says Wong. “And that’s something we try to do for every restaurant and every chef.”
