Fluctuating Prices of Raw Materials Hider Fresh Food Packaging Market Growth
Arrivals in the market, demand, weather conditions, export demand, and varietal differences among marketplaces all have an impact on price changes. When all or some of these factors were active, raw material prices exhibited volatility, which impacted by-products such as Fresh Food Packaging Market price, which in turn influenced the growth of the Fresh Food Packaging Market. In 2021, the price of plastic packaging hiked owing to the unusual increase in raw material prices and energy prices. Most of the food container is made up of 100% recyclable polypropylene and this material is produced from the residual waste of fossil fuel as prices of fossil fuel get hike resulting in an increase in the price of plastic packaging. In January 2021, US polypropylene prices hike from 13.5 to 96.5 percent per pound, also the price of HDPE and LDPE up by 8% & 9% respectively. Purely from a customer and consumer point of view, the products Meghan is teasing do not seem appealing.
I really artisan jams and jellies and cute, home grown products that look adorable are my roman empire (please don't judge me for this). But I also look for quality products, the stories of the owners, curators, as well as how and who from the products or raw materials are sourced. And I channel this interest of mine into my secret side gig as an anonymous food critic. I write about artisan cafes and food products. So looking at Meghan's 3 products from that lense -
If the only products she is offering is freshly made (perishable) jam and a dog biscuit, then it is extremely off putting for a consumer. It doesn't matter if it's beautifully packaged. There is no cohesion between the 2 products. For most people who don't have dogs or are sticklers for hygiene would be a little icked out. At the price point which she intends to sell these products it's very important to create an image in the customers mind. Wholesome, clean, fresh, cosy, tasty, happy kids happy families, warmth and lighthearted fun filled family times etc etc etc.
No all I'm thinking of is that she is making the jam on one hob of her stove top and putting together the dog biscuit ingredients in a large bowl on the same countertop (and dog food ingredients are usually raw, smelly, include things like liver, lamb, bone meal, bone broth etc). Just thinking of that has put me off of whatever was launched simultaneously with those dog biscuits.
Those products should not have been launched together. Technically she hasn't launched anything, I know. But if and when she does, a lot of people would already associate the two products together.
Of course this is just my opinion, but I do think Meghan has noone to advice her on market strategy and brand story. She is focussing too much on or and not at all on getting the basics of her brand together. A brand, as in the product itself, is always bigger than the creator.
People buy skims because it's a good product that looks good, does te work it does and it offers variety. Not just because kim wears it. People are over Kylie lipkits because the lipsticks are bad, flaky, and substandard. Kylies pillowey lips can only sell soany kits.
Using the same logic, if Meghan is not highlighting the produce, the strawberries, the raspberries, the jam making, the gardens, the fruit picking, the quality checks, the jam batches to get just the right taste it's not good. It won't sell. The company would never take off. The products will not be a success countrywide, let alone worldwide. (Which I think is what she would ideally like).

So i was thinking about the whole solarpunk chobani oatmilk ad (as depicted here) and a comment someone made in a different post (that I now can't find) where they said something along the lines of (paraphrasing) 'the marketing people at chobani being unable to imagine a future where their brand had ditched single-use containers in favor of a sustainable alternative'. And I started thinking how will food packaging look like in the solarpunk utopia?
Modern food packaging responds (mostly) to the needs of the globalized supply chain, where food products need to be moved great distances without being damaged and while taking up as little space and energy as possible. Packaging also needs to be made of the cheapest materials available, hence the preference for disposable containers made of light materials (cardboard, plastic, aluminium, paper, etc.). You don't want your package to be worth more than what it contains (although with some food products, that is close to being the case).
The comment I referenced earlier suggested using reusable glass containers as an example of a sustainable alternative to single-use containers. That makes sense, and there is historical (and current) precedent for such kinds of food containers. Just ask your parents (or grandparents, I guess) how milk used to be delivered to homes in the good ol' days.
In a more recent example, some places still use reusable (returnable) containers for products such as beer and (even!) Coca-cola, where you pay an initial fee for the container and get reimbursed once you return it, or you can exchange the empty container for a full one by paying the price of the product minus the container fee.
This solution, however, is still within the framework of the global supply chain of modern capitalism. In the solarpunk utopia, the goal would be to reduce (reuse, repair, recycle) the breadth of our current supply chain by prioritizing local consumption and disinsentivizing long-distance trade.
This train of thought led me to the question of wether processed, pre-packaged food would even be a thing in the solarpunk utopia. After all, if we are trying to consume only what is locally sourced, one of the main purposes of preserved (and thus packaged) food goes away. No need for bottled orange juice when you can just go to the commons bin and grab a kilo of fresh oranges to make your own.
Further, once there is no capitalism, the "convenience" angle of processed, packaged food also appears to go away. You don't have to work 9 hours a day, 6 days a week anymore. You have the time and resources necessary to make your own damn fresh orange juice, so why bother with the bottled stuff?
Well for one, not everything is as easy and convenient to do by yourself as orange juice. Fermented foods (cheese, wine, beer, soy sauce, even pickles and yogurt), bread and pastries and cakes, carbonated drinks, jams and marmalade, butter, mayonnaise, cured meats and fish, and (yes) almond milk are all tricky to make properly, take a long time to be made and/or are energy and resource intensive. The need for these kinds of foods will remain as long as we are human and find pleasure in eating and trying new things. Also, the need for mass-produced food does not go away with capitalism, after all we have a population of 10 billion humans with different dietary needs that need to be fed. Food safety standards must still be enforced and probably will be even more stringent when corporate profits are no longer standing in the way of progress.
To add to this, a localized supply chain will make food preservation even more important. After all, if you want your population to survive mostly on what can be produced in a 100 km radius, you will have to prepare for food scarcity. Droughts, floods, earthquakes, blizzards, accidents, and even just regular ol' winter (once we've rescued it from the clutches of climate change) don't care how solar your punk is. They will wreck your food supply and your utopia needs to be ready.
So the need for packaged food will remain. The need for food that can stay in a cupboard undisturbed for months (if not years) and remain edible (and reasonably palatable!) will continue to be there.
With all this in mind... what does food packaging look in our solarpunk utopia? Single-use plastics have gone the way of the dodo, as have single-use paper, cardboard, aluminium, glass, and steel. What has replaced them?
I have some ideas, but this post is already ridiculously long, so I'll save them for later. All I'll say for now is I think glass containers are not the way to go. Glass is heavy, fragile, a poor thermal conductor (so heating and cooling processes with glass containers are energy innefficient), and takes up a lot of space. It is also very resource and energy intensive to produce and recycle (so not the most environmentaly friendly in that regard either).
What does a reusable aluminium container look like? That'd be cool I think.

How to cut costs on a gluten-free diet
Actually several of these principles work on anyone's diet, or another type of allergen diet, but gluten free is what I know and what I serve.
My household consists of me and my partner; she's gluten intolerant and I am not. Our grocery budget is $120 a week (including standard household consumables like soap, paper towels, etc. that I also buy at the grocery store) and we could actually tighten that up more if we worked even a little harder at it. I do most of the cooking and shopping for our household so I thought I would share what it is I'm doing.
Eat as many "regular" items as possible
If there is a gluten free version of an item and a "regular" one that contains wheat, normally the gluten free version is twice the price. So one simple way to cut costs is to buy fewer of them. Some examples are packaged GF cookies and crackers, frozen prepared dinners, canned soups that say gluten free in big letters... basically anything that is marketed as GLUTEN FREE and says GLUTEN FREE in great big letters on the front of the package.
There are lots of items that are labeled "gluten free" but aren't marketed as such. Ketchup is often labeled gluten free somewhere on the package, but there's no such thing as "regular" ketchup that normally contains gluten. Those are fine to buy.
The worst offenders are bread and baked goods in general. Gluten free bread is very expensive. Don't buy things like frozen prepared cakes; gluten free cake mix or brownie mix is the better buy.
Here are some "regular"/inexpensive foods that are naturally gluten free:
rice; avoid pre-seasoned rice mix things
potatoes [regular and sweet potatoes]
corn tortillas (plain corn taco shells and tortilla chips are also easy to get GF)
all manner of fruits and vegetables [fresh, canned, frozen w/o sauce/other extras]
peanut butter
milk and dairy products in general
beans; dry or in cans
meat, especially plain fresh or frozen meat without extra marinades, seasoning, or obviously breading
fish [frozen and canned are least expensive]
I still buy special gluten-free stuff, but
it isn't the bulk of our diet
when reasonable, I let my partner eat them and I eat the regular version (e.g. I still buy wheat sandwich bread for myself)
i put in extra work to find the lowest price; comparing different stores, couponing, stocking up when I find a deal, etc.
Speaking of which,
Figure out what stores are the cheapest near you
A key part of this sentence is "near you." I do most of my grocery shopping at two stores that are 10 or 15 minutes away from my house. They are on the same street and in close proximity of each other. As you compare prices, keep in mind which places are realistically convenient enough to shop at based on where you live, work, and spend time.
I prefer a data driven approach and so have a spreadsheet with the prices of lots of items I buy. Doing it this way, you find that while no store has the lowest price on everything, it's easy to find a store that has an overall lower price on most items.
When comparing prices, remember to compare based on the cost per ounce or cost per pound or similar, not just the package.
In my experience, shopping at more than one store is the easiest way to balance many factors including price, selection, convenience, and quality. Most weeks I go to these two stores:
Wegmans: huge selection of items, low prices on some things, but higher to middling on others; lots of choices for GF items and things like special spices or vegetables that I need just once in a while
Aldi: smaller selection, but easily the least expensive on most regular groceries
I used to live near Publix, which is expensive overall but had a big selection and lots of BOGO sales where they would sell certain items at a loss. I would stalk the sale paper online every week and if they had something I ate at a low cost, I would go to Publix just to buy those items in quantity and then leave to go get the rest of my groceries at Aldi or somewhere else cheaper.
Use sales to stock up on stuff you eat when it's cheaper
For example, If I read the sale paper for the Aldi and I notice butter is $3/lb or less, when it's usually more like $4, I'm buying at least two if not three or four packages and putting some in the freezer, even if we're not low on butter.
This goes double and triple for any special gluten free item. Stock up.
Don't stock beyond your means. Start small as you study your household's patterns of consumption. Start with items that are not perishable: things in cans and boxes, already-frozen items. Also, only stock up on stuff that you know your family already likes.
When you are planning meals to eat, choose based on what you have stocked; shop your house first! Then go to the store to fill in the gaps.
Be prepared to eat at home on days you don't want to cook.
There are always going to be some days when you can't or don't want to cook. You get sick, you're too tired, whatever.
Eating restaurant food (takeout, delivery, or dine in) is extremely expensive and comes with a lot of risks regarding gluten. This is best avoided. Eating out will kill your budget faster than anything else you could do.
This is one time when I don't mind buying a specialty GF item, because while they do cost more than the meals I normally make, they are cheaper than eating out and also safer from a gluten standpoint. I don't mind spending an extra dollar at the store to insulate me from spending ten dollars later.
Some ideas for solving this problem:
naturally GF convenience food that can be tossed in the oven or microwave (at Aldi I have found GF frozen shepherd's pie, sometimes can get frozen tamales, instant mashed potatoes, canned soup etc.)
build a repertoire of meals that are made from "ingredients" but are less work than whatever you normally do; what this means is up to you, for some people it's a dump-in-instant-pot type meal, or maybe a microwaved baked potato and a bag of frozen veggies... at my place I make nachos once a week because they're extra easy.
special GF convenience items like frozen pizza or lasagna
Cheapest of all: make a lot of something on purpose and freeze meal-size portions for later. Soups, stews, and casseroles are all top choices. You can also do things like brown a lot of ground beef and then freeze it; later, you can make something like spaghetti sauce or sloppy joes and skip that first step. (Note that some people do ALL their cooking with this in mind and cook just once or twice a week, or even just once or twice per month, and eat out of the freezer the rest of the time.)
Keep a growth mindset. It might be that right now you are eating out a lot and your skills in the kitchen aren't great. Buying more convenience foods and assembling them at home still saves a lot of money. Once that's comfortable and you're used to the routine of getting food from the store then you can expand your repertoire of simple meals from normal ingredients, which builds your confidence so you can try making more things from scratch. Eating is complicated and eating with allergies/intolerances doesn't help. But it's doable. It can be done.
If I wanted to cut costs in my own household and reduce that $120 budget, I would...
buy fewer sodas and drinks in general.
set strict limits on GF bread. (like I'll only buy 1 loaf a month or something) work with partner to make sure she always has food for lunch and therefore doesn't care to make a sandwich.
Try reducing partner's cereal consumption; make other equally easy breakfast choices available; cereal is expensive
cook and freeze more homemade food and buy less convenience food.
prioritize cheaper fruits and vegetables. Decide on a price per lb limit that I want to stay within and stop buying stuff that is more than that (or buy them very infrequently). Things like apples, carrots, onions, bananas, cabbage, and broccoli tend to be cheaper
do the same thing for meat and also eat significantly less meat.
Hope I helped :)

Mikoto had to look up the recipe for daifuku and decide if the work, and the risk of screwing it up, was worth making them for scratch. She could order the confection from Japan and have it shipped, almost fresh, to New York for a reasonable price.
But then thought about it and realized homemade was better, even if it was bad.
She bought canned red beans and rice flour from the Asian Market, and followed the recipe she found online for making the red bean paste, forming the mochi, rolling it out, and forming the daifuku. The first few were misshapen, or torn, but Mikoto had earned enough cooking experience to not become discouraged. Instead she persevered and managed to make twelve (four white, four pink, and four a pale green) nice looking daifuku. She placed the daifuku in a sealed treat box and left the box, along with a pricey tin of green tea from Japan, on the desk in his office so he could find it after his class.
On a note, left under the box, she wrote, "Happy birthday, Logan. From Mikoto."
He’s been busy today. Busier than normal. Not too busy, of course, that he forgot what day it was. He could never forget. Creed hadn’t let him. Every year was the same. This year, Logan supposed he should be resting easier. Creed had allegedly been ‘dealt with’ not that long ago. Well, forgive him for not celebrating.
He didn’t buy it.
Just because Sabertooth ran afoul with a terrorist group, that didn’t mean he couldn’t be back on his feet by now. Hell, Logan was counting on it. Creed never missed today - much as Logan wished he would. Just once. One year where he could kick back with a couple of brews instead of worrying about ripping some nutjob tearing him apart. No such luck.
The worst part of it was, Logan was still at the Institute. He should’ve been on the road days ago, far away from these walls and everyone in ‘em, and yet, here he was - a goddamn sitting duck. Drawing the threat into what was supposed to be a safe zone, a sanctuary. Their home. God fucking damnit.
He should leave.
He should get on the road and go. Travel fast and travel far and keep them safe. Keep Creed away. Keep his family safe. (Can’t lose anyone else-) Things keep coming up. People keep needing help. And he is losing his goddamn mind. He’s trapped here. Trapped with the people he loves. Trapping them. Damning them. Dragging them down with h-
…
Huh?
Logan stopped his frustrated patrolling of the mansion outside of his office. Why is his door open? Had he left it open…? No, no, he never did. He was careful. He has to be - he’s got booze in the fridge, smokes on the night stand, weapons on the wall. had to be - he had booze in the globe, smokes on the nightstand, weapons on the wall - and half-graded assignments on the desk. Couldn’t let the kids get in there. Sure, a locked door wouldn’t technically stop most of ‘em, but it set a boundary. Let the squirts know this was off limits. His office. Keep out. But someone hadn’t kept out. Logan tilted his head and furrowed his brow. Who the devil had been poking around his space? He scented the air. Nothing smelled too strange… (Nothing smelled like Creed.) Still, Logan is cautious when he opens the door further and steps inside. (It’s not paranoia when you’re usually right.)
Nothing seemed immediately off- There. On the desk. He hadn’t put that there. But it still didn’t smell wrong. In fact… One smell stood out as fresher than the rest. Logan felt his shoulders start to relax. It was just her. Skippy. She was okay. He was less cautious and more curious now as he approached the package. And he can smell food, too. It’s a nostalgic scent. And nostalgia is so strange for him, when he only has dregs of the memories the scent is trying to bring back - but they’re good memories, he’s fairly sure. Yeah. They feel good. And the box smells really good. He takes the lid off carefully, using his claw to slice the ribbon and setting it aside to study the contents.
“Oh, shit.” He mumbled to the empty room. These weren’t store-bought. Was that why she’d looked so tired earlier-? “She better not’ve skipped out on sleep for this.” He picks one of the green daifuku out of the box and gives it an experimental bite. It’s good - sweet, but not overly so, with just enough chew that he can work his teeth against it without it being too dense or tacky. Yeah, she did good. He finds the note, eyes it for a second, then turns back to the present - more specifically, the smaller box beside it. Tea. Real tea, by the smell of it. Fuck, it’d been a while since he’d been to Japan - a while since he got a fresh tin.
He really should be getting on the move.
Grab his bag and go.
But, fuck. The tea smelled so good, and if she’d put that much effort…
Maybe he had time for a cup.

What Makes a Reliable Non-Basmati Rice Manufacturer?
Non-basmati rice is a staple food in many countries due to its affordable price, versatility, and varying grain sizes. From long-grain to short-grain varieties, it serves as the backbone of countless meals. But what’s the difference between an ordinary supplier and a reliable manufacturer when it comes to non-basmati rice? For wholesalers, retailers, and even consumers, choosing the right rice manufacturer can make a huge difference in quality, consistency, and long-term relationships. This blog will explore the key factors that ensure you’re sourcing from a trustworthy non-basmati rice manufacturer.
Quality Control Practices and Certifications
The foundation of any reliable rice manufacturer is its commitment to quality. Manufacturers with strict quality control processes ensure that each batch of rice meets specific standards for purity, grain length, moisture content, and taste. Look for manufacturers that adhere to international certifications such as ISO 9001 for quality management and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) for food safety. These certifications ensure that the rice is produced under clean conditions and undergoes rigorous testing to remove impurities.
Additionally, quality manufacturers often employ state-of-the-art testing laboratories that analyze rice for contaminants such as pesticides, aflatoxins, and heavy metals. This commitment to food safety ensures that you are getting a premium product that meets global standards.
Consistent Supply and Scalability
A reliable non-basmati rice manufacturer must be able to meet consistent demand, whether you are a small retailer or a large-scale distributor. This means maintaining adequate stock, having capacity for large orders, and increasing production as needed. Manufacturers with extensive farming networks or partnerships with multiple farmers can better guarantee stable supply throughout the year, regardless of seasonal fluctuations.
Scalability is especially important for businesses looking to expand into new markets. A trustworthy manufacturer will have the flexibility to adjust production volumes to align with your growth, ensuring a smooth supply chain even during peak seasons.
Technological advancements in milling and packaging
Modern rice milling and packaging technology plays a key role in maintaining the quality and shelf life of non-basmati rice. Reliable manufacturers invest in advanced milling machinery that reduces broken grains and preserves the natural texture and flavor of rice. Look for manufacturers that use automated sorting technologies to remove discolored or damaged grains, ensuring a more consistent product.
Packaging also matters. Vacuum-sealed or air-tight packaging helps preserve freshness and prevent moisture ingress, which can lead to spoilage or insect infestation. Manufacturers that adopt innovative packaging solutions help ensure that their rice reaches consumers in optimal condition.
Sustainable and ethical sourcing
As consumers and businesses are becoming more aware of sustainability, it is important to work with a manufacturer that values ethical sourcing. Reliable manufacturers prioritize environmentally friendly farming practices, such as minimizing the use of chemical pesticides and adopting water conservation methods. Some manufacturers also support small-scale farmers by offering fair trade agreements, ensuring that local communities benefit from their involvement.
Sustainably sourced rice also tends to be higher in quality, as the plants are grown in healthy soil, without an excessive reliance on synthetic chemicals. Look for manufacturers that openly share their sustainability initiatives or hold certifications such as Fairtrade or Organic to further validate their commitment to ethical practices.
Customer Support and Global Reach
Strong customer support is the hallmark of any reliable non-basmati rice manufacturer. A good manufacturer should provide clear communication channels, timely responses to inquiries, and efficient problem-solving when issues arise. This level of support fosters trust and ensures a seamless business relationship over time.
Additionally, manufacturers with a global reach and experience exporting rice to multiple countries are better equipped to handle the complexities of international shipping, customs regulations, and regional preferences. A manufacturer with a proven export track record can provide invaluable guidance, especially for businesses looking to expand internationally.
Choosing the right non-basmati rice manufacturer isn’t just about considering price. Quality control, supply continuity, technological advancements, consistency and customer support all play a vital role in ensuring you get a great product. By partnering with a reliable manufacturer, you can guarantee that your business will thrive and your customers will be happy.

What are the Advantages of Mini Dairy Plant?
Advantages of Mini Dairy Plants
1. Local Sourcing and Freshness
One of the most significant advantages of mini dairy plants is their ability to source milk locally. This reduces transportation costs and ensures that milk is processed and distributed quickly, thereby preserving its freshness and nutritional value. Consumers today are increasingly conscious of where their food comes from and prefer products that are locally sourced and minimally processed.
2. Quality Control
With a mini dairy plant, producers have greater control over the entire production process. From milk collection to processing and packaging, every step can be closely monitored to maintain hygiene standards and ensure product quality. This level of control is crucial in meeting regulatory requirements and in building consumer trust.
3. Flexibility and Efficiency
Mini dairy plants are designed to be versatile and efficient. They can be set up in smaller spaces compared to traditional dairy facilities, making them ideal for rural areas or communities where space and resources may be limited. Moreover, these plants can often be operated with fewer staff, reducing labor costs and improving overall operational efficiency.
4. Support for Small-Scale Producers
For small-scale dairy farmers, mini dairy plants offer a viable solution to add value to their milk production. By processing their own milk into products like cheese or yogurt, farmers can increase their profitability and reduce dependency on volatile milk prices. This empowerment of local producers contributes to sustainable agricultural practices and strengthens rural economies.
What is a Mini Dairy Plant?
Challenges and Considerations
While mini dairy plants offer numerous benefits, there are some challenges to consider. Initial setup costs, regulatory compliance, and ensuring consistent product quality are among the primary concerns. However, with proper planning, investment, and adherence to industry standards, these challenges can be effectively managed.
Future Outlook
The future looks promising for mini dairy plants as consumer preferences continue to evolve towards healthier and locally sourced food options. Advances in technology and innovations in processing equipment are further enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of these facilities. Moreover, the ability of mini dairy plants to adapt to changing market demands and produce niche products presents exciting opportunities for growth and diversification within the dairy industry.
Conclusion
In conclusion, mini dairy plants represent a significant shift towards localized, sustainable, and high-quality dairy production. By bringing processing closer to the source, these plants not only ensure freshness and quality but also support local economies and empower small-scale producers. As we move towards a future that prioritizes transparency and sustainability in food production, the role of mini dairy plants is set to become increasingly pivotal in meeting consumer expectations and driving positive change in the dairy industry.

Eat From The Side Of The Road
Welcome to the buzzing world of the locavore movement, where your food choices become a powerful statement about sustainability, community support, and personal health. As locavores, the idea is simple yet profound: prioritize food that’s grown or produced within your local region, ideally through direct relationships with farmers and artisans. This isn’t just about enjoying fresh, flavorful meals—it’s a journey towards a more sustainable and equitable food system.
So, why make the shift towards a hyperlocal diet? It all starts with the intersection of politics and food. Every purchase you make is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in. When you choose locally sourced food, you’re advocating for reduced transportation emissions and less packaging waste. Moreover, you’re making a political statement that you stand for small-scale, sustainable farming practices that often fall by the wayside in industrial agriculture debates. Eating locally isn’t just a culinary preference; it’s a political action that supports the environment and local economies.
Farm-to-table isn’t just a trendy term; it’s one of the backbones of the locavore movement. This concept stretches beyond just buying and eating local—it involves building relationships with the people who grow your food. Imagine biting into a crisp apple picked from an orchard a few miles away or savoring a slice of bread made from wheat grown and milled in your vicinity. This connection deepens one’s appreciation for food and informs more conscious eating practices.
However, being a locavore also means being adaptive and seasonal in your eating habits. It’s about syncing with nature’s cycles and not the supermarket shelves. Yes, this might mean forgoing strawberries in the winter or waiting patiently for the first tomatoes of summer, but the reward is a reconnection with the natural rhythm of your local ecosystem. Plus, seasonal food is at its peak in both nutrients and flavor—a win-win for your body and your palate.
Let’s not forget the economic impact. When you buy local, your money stays within the community, bolstering the local economy and enabling farmers to keep producing spectacular food. It’s a sustainable model that fosters community resilience, ensuring that local producers can survive and thrive even when global food markets are volatile.
While the benefits of becoming a locavore are plentiful, embracing this lifestyle isn’t without its challenges. One of the primary hurdles is accessibility; depending on where you live, finding a consistent and varied supply of local foods can be difficult, especially in urban areas or regions with limited agricultural production. The cost can also be a barrier for many, as small-scale, sustainable farming practices often result in higher prices compared to mass-produced food due to the more labor-intensive methods used. Additionally, adjusting to a seasonal diet means that the availability of certain favorite foods can be limited during off-seasons, requiring a shift in eating habits and meal planning. Despite these challenges, the effort to overcome them not only supports a sustainable lifestyle but also fosters creativity in the kitchen as you learn to use what is locally available in new and exciting ways.
If you’re looking to dive deeper into the locavore lifestyle, start with your local farmers’ market or sign up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box. Engage with local food guides and apps that connect you with local eateries and food producers. Remember, becoming a locavore is not about perfection; it’s about making more mindful, informed choices whenever possible. Every small change contributes to a larger shift towards a sustainable future. So, why not let your next meal be a reflection of your values and a step towards a better world? Join the locavore movement and taste the difference—it’s delicious here!

Exploring the Advantages of Vegan Product Online
In recent years, the vegan lifestyle has surged in popularity, driven by a growing awareness of the environmental, health, and ethical benefits. As a result, the market for vegan products has expanded dramatically, with a notable shift towards online platforms. In this article, we delve into the myriad advantages of purchasing Vegan Product Online, highlighting the convenience, variety, and quality that these platforms offer.
Convenience and Accessibility
One of the most significant advantages of Buy Vegan Food online is the unparalleled convenience. Shoppers can browse and purchase items from the comfort of their homes, avoiding the need to visit multiple physical stores. Online platforms operate 24/7, allowing consumers to shop at any time that suits their schedule, whether early in the morning or late at night.
Additionally, online stores often provide detailed product descriptions, customer reviews, and ratings, helping shoppers make informed decisions. This accessibility is particularly beneficial for those living in areas where vegan products are not readily available in local stores.
Wide Variety of Products
Online vegan stores typically offer a much broader selection of products compared to traditional brick-and-mortar shops. From plant-based meats and dairy alternatives to vegan snacks and supplements, the variety is vast. This extensive range allows consumers to explore and try new products that they might not find locally.
Moreover, many online retailers specialize in vegan products, ensuring that their entire inventory is free from animal-derived ingredients. This focus simplifies the shopping experience for vegans, who can shop with confidence knowing that all products align with their dietary and ethical preferences.
Competitive Pricing and Exclusive Deals
Shopping for vegan products online often presents opportunities for cost savings. Many online stores offer competitive pricing, frequently lower than physical stores, due to reduced overhead costs. Additionally, consumers can take advantage of exclusive online deals, discounts, and promotional offers that are not available in brick-and-mortar shops.
Furthermore, subscription services offered by some online retailers can lead to additional savings. By subscribing to regular deliveries of favorite vegan products, customers can benefit from reduced prices and the convenience of having items delivered to their doorstep on a regular schedule.
Quality and Freshness
A common concern when purchasing food online is the quality and freshness of the products. However, reputable online vegan retailers have stringent quality control measures in place. Many offer fresh produce, refrigerated items, and frozen goods that are carefully packaged to ensure they arrive in optimal condition.
Additionally, online stores often source products directly from manufacturers or specialized suppliers, ensuring that items are fresh and have a longer shelf life compared to products that might have sat on store shelves for extended periods.
Supporting Ethical and Sustainable Practices
By purchasing vegan products online, consumers can support companies that prioritize ethical and sustainable practices. Many online vegan retailers are committed to sourcing products that are not only cruelty-free but also environmentally friendly. They often use sustainable packaging materials and employ eco-friendly shipping practices.
Furthermore, these retailers typically provide transparency regarding their sourcing and production processes, allowing consumers to make purchases that align with their values. Supporting such companies helps promote a more sustainable and compassionate marketplace.
Access to Niche and Specialty Products
For those with specific dietary needs or preferences, online shopping offers access to niche and specialty vegan products. Whether you are looking for gluten-free, soy-free, or organic vegan items, online stores cater to a wide array of dietary requirements. This inclusivity ensures that everyone, regardless of their dietary restrictions, can find suitable vegan products.
Additionally, many online platforms feature unique and hard-to-find items, such as international vegan products, artisanal goods, and limited-edition releases. This variety enriches the shopping experience and allows consumers to discover new and exciting products.
Enhanced Customer Experience
The online shopping experience is continually evolving, with many retailers investing in technologies and services that enhance customer satisfaction. Features such as personalized recommendations, wish lists, and easy reordering contribute to a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience.
Customer service is also a key focus for online vegan retailers. Many offer live chat support, comprehensive FAQs, and responsive customer service teams to address any queries or concerns promptly. These services ensure that customers feel valued and supported throughout their shopping journey.
Educational Resources and Community Engagement
Many online vegan stores go beyond simply selling products by providing educational resources and engaging with the vegan community. Blogs, recipes, and nutritional information are commonly featured on these platforms, helping customers make informed choices and explore new aspects of the vegan lifestyle.
Additionally, online retailers often engage with their customers through social media, newsletters, and online forums. This engagement fosters a sense of community and connection among like-minded individuals, enhancing the overall shopping experience.
Conclusion
The advantages of purchasing vegan products online are numerous, ranging from convenience and variety to quality and ethical considerations. As the demand for vegan products continues to grow, online retailers are well-positioned to meet the needs of consumers seeking accessible, affordable, and high-quality options.

okay I just got back from a trip to the US and I have thoughts:
why is the water level in the toilet bowl so high?? I accidentally dipped my hand in twice during my two weeks there and believe me it was twice too many!!
christ your groceries are expensive compared to here?? maybe it's because I exclusively go to aldi/lidl (which are cheap here) and I hadn't worked out what the equivalent in the states is but like, hannaford and trader joe's seemed a lot more expensive (based on my rough estimations of exchange rates and sales tax)
oh yeah the sales tax not being included on the price of the thing is strange to me also but I kinda knew that was a thing already
I occasionally see memes about like US public toilet cubicles being poorly constructed, with gaps, etc, and living in the UK I did kinda relate to them, but actually going over there I can confirm that the US gaps are bigger and the amount of panel you have is significantly less. like I can maybe squeeze my head under a uk toilet cubicle but I could fairly easily completely shimmy under a US one
okay this one is probably because of the state we were in and I'm sure it's not universal but like, the amount of pride flags I saw flying?? the amount of progressive pride flags?? the amount of "trans people are welcome here" signs and "we respect trans people" posters?? Active trans specific inclusion in *government buildings* right there for everyone to see, and not a single one (that I saw) defaced or torn down? in the uk you're lucky to get trans positive stickers on streetlamps (and even then a lot of them get defaced/torn off soon after going up) and specific LGBTQIA+ businesses might fly flags or put up posters, but in the US, even in the small towns we visited, a bunch of private houses and not specifically queer businesses had pride flags and posters up (again I'm sure this is different in other states but coming from the uk it was a breath of fresh air). oh and also we went to a farmers market in a tiny town and someone running one of the stalls was like "how's it going guys?" and then was immediately like "ah wait is it okay that I say guys? I don't want to misgender anyone" and like, that has never happened to me in the uk and I struggle to even imagine it happening outside of specifically queer settings
oven pizzas!! honestly the oven pizzas we had while there were better than 99% of UK pizzas (I'm including UK oven pizzas, restaurant pizzas, and takeout pizzas), idk what goes in them that's different to the uk but they were So Good
vanilla ben and jerrys??????? we get some B&J flavours in the uk but they're generally expensive compared to other ice cream and there might be 1-3 flavours to choose from in stores that stock it. we saw a whole freezer dedicated to B&J ice cream, in the entire aisle dedicated just to ice cream. anyway, I thought B&J only did fancy flavours so seeing the plain vanilla there was cool
also my lactose intolerance seemed to go on holiday during the trip?? like is american dairy just different? I had cheesecake and ice cream and incredibly cheesey pizzas and cheese toasties and had like 0 ill side effects. As soon as I got back to the uk I went "well I must be cured" and drank a yoghurt drink and Let Me Tell You That Was A Mistake
cars are B I G. we got off the plane and went to the car rental place and all the trucks and vans and stuff were just completely towering over me. It's like someone took a uk truck and expanded it to like 1.5x size. I felt kinda like I was a child again just with the height difference
gas stations!! we stopped off at gas stations and I was expecting like a lil selection of packaged sandwiches and bottled drinks but like, there were salads and sushi and wraps and sandwiches and then an entire hot food counter doing pizzas and hot wraps and there were pastries and several different types of filter coffee and teas and then An Entire Beer Cave?? (side note: alcoholic arizona ice tea?? holy shit??). apparently gas stations are some of the best places to buy booze, which I was not expecting?
I had a super great time while there and everyone was so friendly ^_^ but if someone could tell me why the toilet bowls are like that I'd appreciate it D:

What Hyper-Deflation looks like (with food)
In virtual economies, like massive-multiplayer-online games, inflation is counteracted by the amount of players that can produce an item (and how much demand is on that item.)
That means when there is low demand, or the item is from 3 expansions back and only has a hand full of outdated uses, then massive levels of deflation occurs.
Some players try to buy up these items as a gamble that they can sell them for higher prices before the markets readjust. (players often sell items on the player market, instead of in game sellers because they can get more, or because it's easier to put on the market than to filter your items and resell them to the NPC vendors.)
So when we have virtual food items, (we can compare these to preserved food since the longevity of preserved food items is more comparable to a virtual item that *doesn't go bad*)
Some items in MMOs actually do have a shelf life BTW. But these are usually based around in game events.
Those consumable food items tend to be high value because they're hard to make, hard to gather resources for, and because players are trying to complete certain post-game content that requires them (boosted stats) but many players who cannot afford the top end food will either leech of their crafter bot friend (sorry Lancelot) or just buy the items from the last patch cuz "they're still good and world's cheaper".
They tend to run out is what I'm saying.
The cheapest items tend to drop down to literal pennies on the dollar, mostly because they're collected by so many players without trying that they're considered *trash items*. And players can make a handful of in-game currency just selling them without actually knowing their uses. Which, if you're at the end game, you have an idea of what to use certain items for and tend to make that distinction. Which helps pennies circulate in the economy so that newbies can afford to purchase their gear and tools for their next level.
But in real life it's not the same. Despite large industries based around stocking and storing preserved food items, and large amounts of fresh food being thrown away by those same stores routinely, deflation doesn't happen to those food items.
And I'll give you "digital is forever" but at the same time; when's the last time you polished off a jar of jelly and thought "this might be the last peanut butter and jelly I ever have?"
Or have you ever actually thought about how long that last jar of peanut butter was in your cabinet for when you had the munchies and made a sandwich thinking "eh, it'll be alright"
Or that last box of Hostess (whatevers), that's been in there for several years, at least, but they last forever, it'll be fine.
Thanks to the miracle of individual packaging.
So why is it, that we can have millions of cans of cream corn (that supposedly nobody eats) and the price only goes up?

Eco Friendly Solutions for Brand Packaging
With the new year getting started, we’re still dealing with a pollution crisis that’s on a global level.
But, with new eco friendly branding and packaging, you’ll be able to offer a new lease to help the planet, through the packaging that you have.
Plastic pollution is invading our planet, and most of it comes from the foods and drinks that are discarded after just one use. While it might be useful for a little bit of time, the problem is, if you continue to encourage this waste, it actually causes centuries for it to fully decompose. How do we solve this? through better packaging and solutions of course!
Biodegradable Food Packaging
One solution is biodegradable food packaging. This is the type of packaging that’s great for food packaging that’s sustainable, such as pizza boxes and tableware that’s biodegradable, or made with kraft boxes. It’s great for takeout, and it’s made from materials that are recycled, and it can offer biodegradable options, so that it keeps food fresh, and also saves the planet.
Eco-friendly Packaging for your Deliver Items
With the pandemic still being a thing, there are now skyrocketing amount of home deliveries. There are more staff being hired than ever before to handle the demand for packaging, and some retailers like amazon have since tripled their profits since the beginning of this.
With major changes in how people are able to shop, some eco friendly types of options such as mailers and boxes that self-seal are the call for brands that wnt packaging solutions that are sustainable. They’re crafted utilizing cardboard, and they come in different sizes, making it more simple than ever before in order to offer sustainable types of items that are there.
You can now offer different varieties of products that offer packaging to bigger shipments, and also are used to protect the earth and other animals and items too.
Shopping bags that are sustainable
For a lot of businesses that market to vendors on the street, or maybe sell foods, the products also need to be factored in when you’re looking at this.
For some, this is a mere afterthought, but some close attention does need to be put in how the goods get carried.
With the prices for bags that are plastic increasing, and people having to front the cost, there are now some businesses that are looking to provide biodegradable types of bags, which are great for saving the planet.
These types of bags are the best for ecofriendly types of solutions as they offer similar types of characteristics to the bags that are plastic, while also being totally biodegradable.
Biodegradable Void Fill and Paper Tape
There is also a new change in the type of ways that you seal the items that are there. paper tape is one of the new ones, and it’s become a sustainable, better way of handling this. it’s made through Kraft paper, and is similar to regular tape, while also being totally recyclable. It’s great for sealing your packages, so that customers are able to recycle everything, without having to worry about the tape that’s there.
Then there is void fill. While packaging peanuts are popular, they are not good for the planet. The same goes for bubble wrap, as it’s based on plastic. If you switch to these they offer a safety net for packages when they’re transported, and customers can repurpose these too, making this better for packaging that’s eco friendly, and better for the planet too! Try this type of packaging today, and see the difference it makes.

6 months in Interior Alaska
In August I moved 3500 miles north from Los Angeles-ish to Interior Alaska for a PhD program. This was the most nerve wracking thing I’ve ever done and also one of the most exciting. When I talk to friends and family about having moved up here, it’s pretty clear they’re picturing me living in a cabin in the woods, fending off bears and somehow a university fits in there, somewhere. Like Alaskan Bush People, with a random college campus thrown in.
Sometimes, they’ve got the right idea. But never for the reasons they think. There’s lots of stuff that’s hard to get up here. That means everything purchased in the state of Alaska comes with a hidden shipping cost built into the market price of the item. When you’re paying nearly twice as much for fresh meat and produce in the stores than the folks living in the lower 48, it’s no question why so many locals turn to hunting and foraging to stock their pantries. Yes, even the ‘city folk’. (I live in the largest urban center in Interior Alaska, but there’s only like 33,000 people living in the city limits. I think that’s what most people would qualify as a small town.)
In terms of hunting and foraging, I wouldn’t even know where to start. No one is ever willing to share where their berry spots or mushroom spots are, and I can’t eat fish and have no interest in getting a hunting license for something bigger. I don’t even have hunting experience to make something larger feasible.
Regardless of price, there’s still some things that I just can’t get up here. Furniture stores like Ikea and Wayfair make no selfsame effort to get their products up here, not even for exorbitant shipping costs. (Usually you have to pay exorbitant shipping costs to a third party package forwarding service, or something similar, instead.) There’s a Target in Anchorage, but Anchorage is 7 hours away on a good (not icy) day. I’ve been making do with Wal-Mart, but it’s not the same and I’m not thrilled about it. Amazon usually charges extra for shipping, because I never buy anything on Amazon I can get in a store, and that usually ends up being weird, bulky items because I am perpetually unlucky.
Speaking of big grocery chains, we only have 4. We have Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, Safeway, and Costco. These are all the biggest single stores I’ve ever seen in my life and have enough departments they’re almost individual mini-malls. Except the Costco. Costco is the same everywhere. I think I’ve already mentioned being afraid to go into the Wal-Mart and that I just use online order pick-up instead? Yeah. Yikes.
A related aside: Over spring break, which was a couple weeks ago now, we had a few researchers from Portugal visit us so they could get samples at a few of the thermokarst lakes nearby, and they had a pretty miserable mishap with their luggage where all their clothes got lost in Frankfurt, Germany (their first connection), but all their sampling materials arrived just fine. So we ended up taking them to Wal-Mart to get them a few basics, and they’d never been in a Wal-Mart. They also found it entirely overwhelming and I feel vindicated. Anyway.
The familiar-national-chain pickings are slim, whether I’m looking for groceries, fast-food, or another specialty store. This isn’t to say that everything I need isn’t available. Because it is. If you can’t get it for closer-to-lower-48 prices at a national chain store, you can definitely get it from some local supplier. Only problem is, the local suppliers can charge whatever they want, because there’s no competition. Is that good for them? Yes! Absolutely. I love small businesses, and I love that this area allows them to thrive. Is it good for me? Hell no. I don’t make enough as a student to justify going out to eat more than once a month, or once every two months if I’m going to a sit-down restaurant, where the cheapest plate is somewhere between $20-25. Which is rough.
But I don’t only have complaints! There’s so many things I love about here, so far, and in the big picture, I feel like my complaints don’t even begin to outweigh the benefits. I’ve gotten a million opportunities I’d never have gotten anywhere else to do cool stuff. I got to go ice climbing, touch three million year old dirt at the bottom of a permafrost tunnel, see so many excellent showings of aurora borealis, dodge moose and bears and caribou with my car, feel -45F, or experience a full 24 hours of darkness.
I’m having a blast, but sometimes the little things make me feel more like I’m living in the woods. (Don’t get me started on the dry cabin situation up here.)
A lot of it can be mitigated by simply going to these places while I’m visiting my family in the lower 48, but I only see them once a year because I’m so busy and flights are so expensive.
