There was a time where the horn was everything to me. All that I did, down to brushing my teeth, was to make sure I could continue playing. Now I hardly consider myself a musician.

In these past few years I’ve come to realize maybe what I want in life is to be loved, cherished, and celebrated. And maybe the horn was a vehicle to that love. That it possibly made me worthy of that love and acceptance I was so laser-focused on.

Maybe I just dream of creating something deserving of such merit.

Though I do believe that everyone is worth these things, it’s not the same for me. For some reason I have to earn it.

It’s been nearly four years since I’ve graduated from my masters, and I hardly touch the horn anymore. I wouldn’t say its absence is cathartic, and it’s definitely not without shame, but I’ve realized a different way to live my life than before. A less publicly judged one.

There’s a part of me that knows it’s the industry’s misogyny and the economy and the stigma and the discipline and the agism and the perfectionism that’s holding me back. I can see that. But a lot of what’s holding me back is just me.

Maybe I’ll be able to do it again one day. Maybe some day I’ll come back to it with fresh eyes and nonjudgmental ears and a new found ability to let things go just a little more.

It’s painful and it’s tragic, yet it is so utterly human and ridiculously common.

It’s hard to know what to think. But I do know one thing.

I’m exhausted. I’m scared. Terrified to really go after something and fall flat on my face and lose my value. I don’t want to fail and disappoint everyone. I don’t want to do some other thing and find out I don’t have what it takes. I don’t want to find out that no one truly cares.

What started out as a band au turned into a college au, and now I'm hyper fixating again

Here's what I got so far...

So the band part right,

Simon and Kyle are in the campus marching band. Simon plays percussion, and Kyle plays the frenchhorn.

Price is the band director and Nik is the color guard coach.

Johnny and Gary are in the color guard.

Laswell is the school principal and Graves is the security guard no one likes.

This is where I started spiraling,

I started thinking about what they would major in.

Johnny is obviously a chemistry major.

After doing some surfing on Gaz, I think he would be a criminal justice major.

I'm still thinking on Simon's, but I have an idea.

Also still thinking about Gary's too.

But there is a lot more too, maybe later though
