Heavy/Power Metal from Sweden 🤘😎🤘
“Dream Evil are well known for delivering massive amounts of cheese amongst their goods, and “Metal Gods” shows right away that the lactose intolerant might want to steer well clear. But if this is your jam, continue on, because Dream Evil is about to dump a vat of molten Velveeta down your ear holes.”

Interview: Fredrik Nordström (Guitar) of Dream Evil (Video/Audio)
We spoke to Dream Evil guitarist Fredrik Nordström about making their new record, 'Metal Gods', as well as finding the time to create music as a group and having fun doing it. We also talk about the ever-lasting appeal of Dream Evil, how the UK has embraced them, the difficulties in doing big tours nowadays, and so much more.
Heavy metal will never die. But every now and then, it needs a fresh injection of passion, purity, and pomp, just in case. Returning with a new album after seven years of studio silence, Dream Evil are obviously the right men for the job. They are ‘Metal Gods’, and their reign continued with the release of this new album on July 26th, 2024, via Century Media Records. An album that we summed up…

Dream Evil - Metal Gods
Release Date: 26 Jul 2024
Tumblr media
Heavy metal will never die. But every now and then, it needs a fresh injection of passion, purity and pomp, just in case. Returning with a new album after a seven years of studio silence, Dream Evil are obviously the right men for the jobs. Their new album is called 'Metal Gods'. That's what they are, and they will reign supreme.
Formed at the tail-end of the ‘90s, by producer Fredrik Nordström and guitarist Gus G. (Firewind/Ozzy Osbourne), Dream Evil smashed their way into the power metal boom of the early 21st century. Their debut album 'Dragonslayer', released in 2002, became an instant hit with fans of thunderous, melodic metal.
The band have been oddly quiet since 2017, occasional tours aside. Fredrik Nordström says, “We didn’t really disappear, we have just been lazy. It’s been a long time. Mainly because we were all busy, to be honest. We started work on a new album several years ago. We just wanted to make a better album than the previous one. Everybody in the band felt the same. It was simple, really. We just tried to make Metal Gods the best Dream Evil album yet.
Fredrik Nordström is eager to point out that Dream Evil was never conceived as a full-time band, and that their intermittent efforts have often been difficult to achieve, not least due to his own work as one of metal’s best regarded studio gurus. In contrast, Metal Gods sounds like an album made by musicians on a mission, driven by honest enthusiasm and a profound love for the heavy metal ethos.
Guaranteed to have audiences banging their heads and screaming themselves hoarse, the new songs will fit perfectly with the highlights of the band’s catalogue to date. Dream Evil hit the road later this year with their most extravagant stage show to date. When the world needs heavy metal, Dream Evil deliver it. It’s that simple.

METHEDRAS - Human Deception
Tumblr media

Thursday, December 28: Dream Evil, “Break the Chains”
Evilized was the sort of album title Ronnie James Dio likely kept in his back pocket, so it was fitting that a band named after one of his better albums used it for their second record.  But even though Dream Evil clearly worshiped at Dio’s altar, their basic sound was rooted more in classic German power metal (though in fairness, RJD’s discography from Rainbow Rising up to The Last in Line were cornerstones for the likes of Michael Weikath and Kai Hansen), and “Break the Chains” could’ve easily appeared on something by Mob Rules, Brainstorm or Firewind (whose Gus G. actually played on this).  Gus G. and Fredrik Nordström- who was clearly enjoying a break from his day job producing every Swedish melodic death metal record- riffed and shredded like the second coming of Helloween, while Nick Night sang with melody, finesse and power.  Meanwhile, Snowy Shaw apparently found time between playing in every Scandinavian metal act with a PA to record drums that both stormed and grooved.  “Break the Chains” wasn’t particularly revolutionary, but it was a bit of a surprise to see well-respected producers and players like Nordström, Shaw and Gus G. join forces for something that was far less ponderous than what they were primarily known for- well, maybe not Gus, since Firewind was always a little cheesy.  And on the whole, the track was fun, solid power metal, good for a quick fist pump and headbang.

Einar Jolin (1890 – 1976) was a Swedish painter best known for his decorative and slightly naïve Expressionist style.
Einar Jolin was in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of professor Severin Jolin and grandson of actor Johan Christopher Jolin. He grew up on Kammakargatan 45 in the Jolinska Huset (Jolin Residence), a three-story townhouse with a garden, built by his grandfather. Jolin grew up in the middle of Stockholm close to Tegnérlunden, Adolf Fredrik Church and Vasaparken, which may have influenced his depiction of houses, roof tops, and views of Stockholm in his paintings. Jolin loved his house with its exotic furnishings. For interior paintings, he often selected props from things in the house – Gustavian and Empire style furniture, Chinese embroideries and East Indian tableware. Other residents in the house were his parents, brother Eric, sisters Ingrid and Signe, grandmother Mathilde Wigert-Jolin and his aunt, artist Ellen Jolin (1854–1939) who was the first to teach Jolin the basic techniques of painting.
Jolin's artistic education started at the Technical School (later known as Konstfack) in Stockholm in 1906. The school mainly taught painting techniques and Jolin was more interested in learning about style. Within the year, he started looking for another place to continue his studies. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Konstnärsförbundet (The Artist's Association) had a school on Glasbruksgatan in Stockholm. Jolin applied there in the autumn of 1907. His future teacher Karl Nordström reviewed his drawings and Jolin was admitted to the school the same year. Continue reading
