obi-wan's devotion to Anakin's son is immediate and eternal and insane. he really set that man on fire and then looked at his son like "ok this is what i'm doing until i die now thanks," and then did exactly that.

you really dont see any red flags about the "cheese pizza" for child porn thing? that started on 4chan over pizzagate. "good faith" doesnt mean you take an obvious fascist painting a (possibly fake) trans woman as a predator at their word.
That sure is a lot of assumptions that have nothing to do with anything I've said! I don't believe I've expressed any direct opinion of my own (out loud on here--my DMs with friends have been FULL of extremely opinionated commentary on that post, both today and when it originally hit my inbox). That is my normal way on this blog--I don't state my own opinions because I don't matter, it's the comments section that gets to matter.
But since you've asked, just to be clear, I think the submitter of that post is a thoroughly unpleasant person, has slanted that story in every possible way, and is painting a picture that may have very little in common with reality. I think they are a transmisogynist who took someone's actions and read them willfully in the wildest, worst faith way possible. Like the pool thing? I genuinely do not understand how they got from "she wants to throw a pool party for the neighborhood kids" to...whatever the hell they were implying there. I genuinely do not. And overwhelmingly, the comments agree! They are rightfully calling the submitter the asshole. Which is what this blog is here for. The system works!
That is not, and has never been, what I mean by "good faith" on this blog. I have been VERY clear (today even! in so many words!) that you are perfectly welcome to question anyone's portrayal of events. What you're not welcome to do is call the post wholesale fake and bait. As has always been the case.

I think where the “you’re just mad people are critiquing a game you like” crowd gets me the most is that I’ve read all their critiques. I was legitimately surprised on my first run that some people took Veilguard so personally and were vitriolic so I went through and read what they were saying because I was like “what did I miss?” That’s my first instinct when something confuses me is to dig. (Oh hey I applied this to the game too! Crazy!)
And when I started breaking down what they were saying was when I started getting annoyed because their arguments were either in such bad faith, reductive, or just plain wrong. Like Orientalism in the game? Fair! But I have not seen talk of that get anywhere near the amount of traction as “Solas should have torn down the Veil and him and Lavellan should have had elf supremacy together and they didn’t so game bad.” “I missed a bunch of stuff then blamed BioWare.” Or “I didn’t like how it played out so writing bad.” Or “They didn’t say the Maker enough and I counted.” That last one is my favorite. Oh and “the language is too modern” and they’re specifically talking about Taash because they don’t want to admit nonbinary people make them uncomfortable.
But wow I don’t see that energy from the other side at all. I don’t see them even trying to understand or read why people like the game. I try to encourage people to read your meta write ups as well as my own and they either just want to pick a fight because I have the audacity to love the game rather than hear me out or step outside of that negativity for like two seconds. Here we are two months later and they’re still acting like Veilguard broke into their house and beat them up and stole their sixty bucks then took a piss on the old games.

Every other three threads or comments in the comment section on reddit are now about "WhEn Will cEleboRn APpEAR???"
Celeborn isn't this cool, badass character like Glorfindel or Anárion. Tolkien invented him to be Galadriel's husband and the father to her daughter, so she could be Arwen's grandmother and Eldarion's great-grandmother. It is telling that this cis white hetero man born in 1892 already recognized that Galadriel was much more interesting than her husband.
Reddit's obsession with Celeborn is part of a much bigger, cultural problem, namely that Galadriel isn't allowed to be a strong female character with agency without the "guidance" of her husband. It stems from their hatred towards Galadriel acting "traditionally masculine" and needing to be "more feminine, therefore tamed". It's symptomatic of their disdain towards women in general.
(I need to point out that I am not against Celeborn as a character and him appearing somewhere toward the end of the series, but this obsession rooted in misogyny is fucking disgusting actually).

when straight couples in media pine for each other or act particularly repressed as they deny themselves of romance or pleasure, the involuntary taunt, “gaaay” leaves my mouth. i don’t know how this started or how to stop it, but, worst of all, i don’t know if i’m ever wrong.

Frankly, I think Bungie should give Osiris hair, he's not in the forest anymore he has access to brushes. Please, he'd look so daddy with salt and pepper hair. Guys I swear I tried to make him look as like Osiris as possible, I studied that motherfucker like a scholar.

Me: scrolling through Disney app
My 2-year-old: “daddy?”
Me: “yes, bug?”
My 2-year-old, pointing at the tv: “daddy.”
Me: “was there something you wanted to watch?”
(We often let him pick what we watch. He doesn’t have all his words yet, so he has shortened names for things: Turning Red is “Panda” and Encanto is “Bruno” and the Mario movie is “Bowser,” for example. I have no idea what “Daddy” is, though. Yet.)
My 2-year-old, insistent now: “Daddy!”
Me: “could you show me, bug?”
My 2-year-old, trotting over to the tv, pointing at the tile for Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir, and tapping on Chat Noir: “Daddy!”
My Wife: *cackling*
Me: “first of all-”
My Wife: “that’s totally you, babe.”
Me: “just because I wanted to be Tuxedo Mask when I was a kid-”
My Wife, who has never watched a single episode of a single Magical Girl Anime in her life: “who?”
Me, who watched several growing up, realizing that I have Played Myself: “harrumph”
My 2-year-old, insistent now, slapping the picture of Chat Noir hard enough to shake the tv: “DADDY!”
My Wife: “you wanna watch Daddy on the tv?”
My 2-year-old: “YES!”
Me: “FINE I GUESS”

I don't think "shipper" really captures the reality of the situation. I'm a Lukercy truther. These two characters were connected by faith, doomed by the narrative, living in another Greek tragedy, and the greatest tragedy is Rick Riordan declaring Percy Jackson canonical straight via Twitter (Rick's been acting very JK Riordan lately anyway so he's been death of the authored by defult. boycott Disney. you know why.)
Lemmi be clear, you don't need to actively like the ship to be a Lukercy Truther (you can, it helps) but you do need to see how cannon heavily implies that there dynamic is anything but a surface level friends to enemies plot line. Could also be platonic. Could also be queer platonic. It's not about them being a good couple. They can also be toxic, but they're soulmates, and as a Lukercy truther, my job is to share that truth with the world. To be clear, this has evolved past a standard obsession into religion like devotion. Do I advise following my path? No, but if you do, I wish you luck as a fellow humble servant of the good word.
