you know I didnât question Frank (camera guy #1) vanishing after episode 1 because I thought that it would be a new camera guy every week... but now that Jax seems to be sticking around...
Iâm not sure if either Frank or Jax is on in the conspiracy but Iâm betting one of them is.Â
Arguments for Jax:Â
guy wants to do action movies, a lot of people are saying the fake Reds and Blues could be actors who think theyâre doing an action movie, look it fits okay
shows up when Dylan starts actually being on the trail of something
fucks up important shots, could be doing this on purpose
is the first one to find the fake Reds and Blues
appears without Dylan knowing, could easily have killed Frank and took his place
Arguments for Frank:
vanishes when Dylan gets close to something real
has not been seen in the same place as Unicorn Guy
kept trying to talk Dylan away from locations where she could have gotten information
he was there and then heâs not, so like, thatâs a classic set up for a villain

Quote
Speaking of his comparatively small output, Ishiguro said: âI donât have any regrets about it. In some ways, I suppose, Iâm just not that dedicated to my vocation. I expect itâs because writing wasnât my first choice of profession. Itâs almost something I fell back on because I couldnât make it as a singer-songwriter. Itâs not something Iâve wanted to do every minute of my life. Itâs what I was permitted to do. So, you know, I do it when I really want to do it, but otherwise I donât.â
Giles Harvey, âKazuo Ishiguro Sees What the Future Is Doing to Usâ
(A long New York Times profile to crown the publicity campaign for Klara and the Sun, which I will read and review just as soon as it arrives, though I have a foreboding that it wonât add much to Never Let Me Go.Â
We here at Grand Hotel Abyss are interested in what we have elsewhere called âesoterica in the literary pressââwhat in other genres of writing would just be called themes or subtexts but which demand a more menacing appellation in the field of journalism, where writing is supposed to be transparent as glass. The undercurrent in Harveyâs piece is dolce far niente, which you can see if you compare how Harvey characterizes Ishiguroâs writing practiceâas inspired lazinessâto the way itâs described as an almost spiritualized martial art in the Guardian profile [âa process he compares to a samurai sword fightâ].Â
Why this cryptic defense of the indolent? It accompanies an attempt to reinterpret the politics of Ishiguroâs fiction for the present, even though the first novels belong to the early triumphalist neoliberal moment in their skepticism of all organized politics. Never Let Me Go extends this skepticism to the organizations that have taken the place of politics and therefore breaks through into a true critique of neoliberalism. Never Let Me Go speaks to so many on a nearly forbidden channel because it is, more specifically, a critique of the feminine modes of domination that our era brings to the fore [e.g., as Iâve mentioned already, âwhy wonât men go to therapy?â].Â
Weâve discussed Nancy Armstrong before in these electronic pages; she wrote the book on the realist novel as a feminine mode of domination, and when she turns to Ishiguroâs science fictionânoting, as did the late Swedish Academy secretary Sara Danius, his odd resemblance both to Jane Austen and to Franz Kafkaâshe seemingly gets the message:
That is to say, as Kathy verbally replenishes her biologically depleted emotional life by describing all the connections she has made by means of this ruthless logic, what can only be called positive affect pulses back through the web of pathways which end in death. As it does so, her story converts the deaths of individual students into the form of life in common shared even by the dead in Walter Benjaminâs poignant lament for the passing of the traditional village storyteller. As it thus converts loss into connection at once banal and unavailable to normal individuals, Kathyâs story, I would argue, proposes a model of community that does not hark back to a bygone pastoral world, as Benjaminâs does, so much as open up the possibility that even individuals who consider themselves irreplaceable can and must acknowledge the continuous biological substratum on which they are already inscribed.
But Armstrongâs dense theoretical disquisition on a new post-novelistic model of community, as much as Harveyâs journalistic portrait of the artist as neo-social-democrat, doesnât penetrate to the real Ishiguran esoterica. The author presents himself as a genial bumbling Englishman, a very decent liberal, a kindly multi-genre humanist like Gaiman or Mitchellâsee his Amanda-Palmer-quoting daughterâwho lacks even the grit in the eye you get from Amis or Rushdie. This is the softer book-club version of what Harvey and Armstrong are selling. Harvey writes, Â
Ishiguro came of age as a writer in the early 1980s, when market fundamentalism was sweeping Britain and the West, a development that caught him entirely off guard. âI never wanted revolution,â he said of his younger self. âBut I did believe we could progress towards a more socialist world, a more generous welfare state. I went a long way into my adult life believing that was the consensus. When I was 24 or 25, I realized that Britain had taken a very different turn with the coming of Margaret Thatcher.â Although his books never explicitly address Thatcherâs neoliberal project, they reflect its dismaying human consequences. For Ishiguroâs characters, not working is not an option, or even a proclivity.Â
So much in his work is ânot an option.â I think of the doomed clones torturing the fly in Never Let Me Go, the pianist enacting his great performance only when thinks heâs alone in The Unconsoled, the painter becoming a fascist because he sympathizes with the poor and oppressed in An Artist of the Floating World. The temptation is to recuperate this for a progressive politics in some watered-down Adornian reading that would show his worksâ negativity to subtract from the world the very shape our hopes ought to take so that they become handbooks for utopia once you reverse the writing [I weakly lapsed into this at the end of my essay on Never Let Me Go]. His post-Nobel insistence on his genial liberalism points this way as much as does Armstrongâs summary of his workâs purpose as âprovid[ing] a glimpse of what it might be like to live without the misbegotten notion that being a self-contained subject is the best and only way of being fully human,â or Harveyâs quiet argument for social democracy as a system that will allow us to be productively lazy just like the author.Â
The theme, the subtext, the esoterica is something else, though, something less like socialism in cipher and more akin to a philosophy of quiet retreat, inner exile, beneath the posture of conformity, something like Kierkegaardâs Knight of Faith or JĂźngerâs Anarch, though let me finish Eumeswil before you quote me on the latter.Â
The 20th century is dying more slowly than Oneginâs uncle, but itâs still clear what the future holds: corporatist biosurveillance city-states, which will come in âwokeâ Zuck/Bezos forms with democratic-socialist veneers and âbasedâ Thiel/Musk versions that are more frank, but which will be the same in the end. Why else does even the present political leftâs theory of âequity,â as encapsulated in this genuinely disgusting meme, imply the coerced correction of inherent biological inequality? This is the point Iâve been making since my essay on Spike Jonezâs Her in 2014: what the woke and the based want is basically the same thingâthe juridical and biological extermination of the human being. Some will advertise this state of affairs as the expansion of humanism and the alternative to neoliberalism Ishiguro says he was hoping for. They will buy and sell our information and our atoms and tell us itâs freedom, they will bribe us a pittance to be serfs and call it socialism, and like Kathy and Ryder we will do our best to play our part with pride and decency. It is to this future that Ishiguroâs best novels offer a guide.
Further reading: check the Kazuo Ishiguro tag over at the main site for me on A Pale View of Hills, An Artist of the Floating World, Never Let Me Go, The Buried Giant, and a first response to Ishiguroâs Nobel. Confession: Iâve never read When We Were Orphans; I should have by now, but I know so little about its historical setting and am always intimidated by the word-problem aspect of detective novels, so Iâve put it off.)

Just Jonez - Billie Jean
A smooth R&B jam, falling somewhere between modern and classic.
Summary:
Just Jonez recently released âBillie Jean,â a fantastic new R&B single with a velvet-smooth tone and a passionate vocal performance to match the sheer beauty of this production. Although the track is quite polished, it is never overproduced, allowing a lot of wonderfully organic and âhumanâ elements to really add liveliness to the mix.
Body:
Hailing from Philadelphia, USA, Just Jonez is a band with a really special approach to their blend of R&B music. On one hand, their style feels classic and timeless, while on the other hand, they also tip the hat off to excellent modern pioneers. In terms of comparison, great names such as DâAngelo and R Kelly come to mind, as well as contemporary greats like The Weeknd or Frank Ocean, only to mention a few. Recently, Just Jonez released an exciting new single titled âBillie Jean.â
This amazing rendition is a homage to the one and only Michael Jackson, who wrote and performed the songâs original version. This rendition, however, is not just a verbatim cover, but a whole new rendition with its own personality! The version was actually created as early as 2007, and the artists would perform it around Hollywood, hoping to sing it for the King of Pop himself! They never got the chance as it happened, but they still managed to release the song and reach many fans!
On the song, lead vocals are provided by Mete Jones (who sings the first verse), as well as his twin brother, Blue Jones (second verse), and Dahliam (from Los Angeles, California, singing towards the end of the song).
The track has a moody tone, with a suave melody and a fantastic arrangement. The beat has a slow to mid-tempo groove, and it really makes for a smooth, classy feel. The sound of these drum elements is full and which, with a lot of low end thump and a smooth top end that really brings more definition to the table. In addition to the groovy and hypnotic beat, one of the most distinctive elements in this mix is most definitely the acoustic guitar. The beautiful arpeggio parts are absolutely spot on.
The instruments fit really well with the soulful and deep voice of all 3 singers, and it adds a lot of great warmth and texture to the whole song. Last, but definitely not least, the vocals definitely put the cherry on top here, finishing off this incredible production in a very unique and direct way. These singers are absolute masters at controlling the natural dynamic range of their vocals: from quite verses to passionate vocal swirls in the choruses, they know how to use the intensity of their performance to truly drive the vibe of the song itself, and create a fully immersive experience for the audience. In addition to the great quality of the arrangements and the amazing performance value, another thing that makes this song really stand out is the quality of the production work. âBillie Jeanâ has a sound that feels modern, yet timeless at the same time, blurring the lines between old school and contemporary R&B in a very special way. In addition to the personable and edgy performance value, this release is also quite distinctive because of the sheer quality of the production. The mix is balanced and very detail-oriented, making for a lively, edgy and stark sonic approach. In other words, there are many subtle nuances in this release, which really add to the richness of the track when summed up together. The frequency spectrum of the mix is also very balanced, with a tight, yet deep low end working wonders along with a smooth top end, which adds a sense of clarity to the music.
Ultimately, you definitely ought to give this one a go, particularly if you are a fan of artists the likes of Boys II Men, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, or Prince. You will definitely empathize with the amazing classic vibes of this song, but one of the most amazing features of it is its own remarkable and unmistakable personality. This song is definitely a breath of much-needed fresh air, particularly in a genre such as this one. Everyone seems to be stuck in the same old cliches, and as a result, this particular music scene is becoming a little bit stale. However, every once in a while something fantastic and full of heart comes up, just like the artistâs new release.
Just Jonez is particularly attentive to the details of his productions, making for a focused and dynamic sound. The instrumental track is perfectly balanced, allowing the vocals to really stand out and pop to the forefront of the mix. There are many contributing factors that make the sound truly excellent: partly, it is due to the expertly crafted mix, and partly due to the clever arrangements and spontaneous performance. This release is a combination of passion, focus, and vision, and it combines instinctive artistry with true technical expertise, bridging the gaps between the best of both worlds.

I love how you manage to render your tracks so personal and organic. Does the melody come first, or do you focus on the beat the most?
Answer: Usually the melody comes first, sometimes I think of them, other times they come to me in dreams or poetry. However; there have been times Iâve created a track that we sat down and wrote to.
Do you perform live? If so, do you feel more comfortable on a stage or within the walls of the recording studio?
Answer: The Stage is our favorite place to be on earth. We love putting in work in the studio, but delivering performances to our fans is what we live for.
If you could only pick one song to make a âfirst impressionâ on a new listener, which song would you pick and why?
Answer: I would probably say âBillie Jeanâ which is why we released it first. Itâs a song everyone knows and loves, yet we bring something different to it, displaying our vocal talent and musical creativity while leaving more to be desired, the wonder of what we will bring to the table with our original work.
What does it take to be âinnovativeâ in music?
Answer: Great question. In our opinion, itâs delivering music authentically from the soul. Your love, your hurt, your joys, and sadnesses. Your aspirations and passions. If done right you automatically deliver innovation organically.
Any upcoming release or tour your way?
Answer: Our Debut Album L.S.D (Love, Sex, and Drama) will be out this September. Currently, we are touring in Europe, starting in Frankfurt Germany.
Anywhere online where curious fans can listen to your music and find out more about you?
Answer: They can go to our website www.justjonez.com, go to Apple Music, Spotify, or any other music store out there and search Just Jonez. We are also on instagram.com/justjonez.original

Shout out to @olivaraofrphâ for inspiring and helping compile this task! Thereâs a masterlist below compiled of over 120+ faceclaims categorised by gender with their occupation and ethnicity denoted if there was a reliable source. Great Sioux Nation refers to the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakoda Sioux peoples, as well as their subdivisions within those three, and their strong political structure together at the time of European contact. If you want an extra challenge use random.org to pick a random number! Of course everything listed below are just suggestions and you can pick whichever character or whichever project you desire.
Any questions can be sent here and all tutorials have been linked below the cut for ease of access! REMEMBER to tag your resources with #TASKSWEEKLY and we will reblog them onto the main! This task can be tagged with whatever you want but if you want us to see it please be sure that our tag is the first five tags, @ mention us or send us a messaging linking us to your post!
THE TASK - scroll down for FCâs!
STEP 1: Decide on a FC you wish to create resources for! You can always do more than one but who are you starting with? There are links to masterlists you can use in order to find them and if you want help, just send us a message and we can pick one for you at random!
STEP 2: Pick what you want to create! You can obviously do more than one thing, but what do you want to start off with? Screencaps, RP icons, GIF packs, masterlists, PNGâs, fancasts, alternative FCâs - LITERALLY anything you desire!
STEP 3: Look back on tasks that we have created previously for tutorials on the thing you are creating unless you have whatever it is you are doing mastered - then of course feel free to just get on and do it. :)
STEP 4: Upload and tag with #TASKSWEEKLY! If you didnât use your own screencaps/images make sure to credit where you got them from as we will not reblog packs which do not credit caps or original gifs from the original maker.
THINGS YOU CAN MAKE FOR THIS TASK - Â examples are linked!
