happy 86th birthday daffy duck!
april 17th, 1937, marks the day the cartoon porky’s duck hunt was released, which was the first time ever my favorite character, daffy duck, appeared on screen! the short was directed by tex avery, although daffy duck’s character is credited to be created by both tex avery and bob clampett. this short is also the first short where porky pig was voiced by mel blanc, instead of joe dougherty.
fun facts about daffy duck!
the audio for daffy duck’s voice is actually sped up, and is higher and obviously faster than mel blanc’s original recording. the original recording actually sounds almost identical to sylvester’s voice, and was later used for that character with slight differences.
according to chuck jones, daffy’s lisp was based off of their producer, leon schlesinger, who had a bit of a lisp himself. but in mel blanc’s autobiography, he states that daffy had a lisp because they figured that’s how a duck would talk, considering their long bills.
the record for longest characterization of a cartoon character by one voice actor was once held by mel blanc for daffy duck at 52 years. i think the record currently belongs to frank welker, who has voiced fred jones from scooby doo for 53 years.
the first time daffy duck was ever named was in the cartoon daffy duck and egghead from 1938, directed by tex avery.
daffy was ranked #14 in tv guide’s top 50 cartoon characters of all time in 2002 (although what would probably upset daffy is bugs bunny was ranked #1)
in the 1994 book the 50 greatest cartoons: as selected by 1,000 professionals, daffy duck appears in the most cartoons out of any other character, 9. notable choices are duck amuck at #2, duck dodgers in the 24 1/2 century at #4, the great piggy bank robbery at #16, and rabbit seasoning at #30. i think 16 of the 50 are looney tunes cartoons.
daffy duck starred in 130 cartoons 1937-1969, the third most out of all the looney tunes characters. bugs bunny is at first with 167 and porky pig is second with 153.
daffy duck is one of the most everchanging characters in cartoon history. he started in 1937 as a crazy, hyperactive screwball and calmed down a little in 1946, where his character gained a bit more depth. chuck jones changed his character drastically in 1951 to be paired with bugs bunny in rabbit fire. this selfish, greedy, and self-absorbed villain is the character most people know daffy as. now, reboots like new looney tunes and looney tunes cartoons feature daffy’s original character.
silly daffy is superior daffy (not a fact but it should be).

Happy 125th Birthday Joe Dougherty
The original voice of Porky Pig!
Ah, yes! Before Mel Blanc did Porky, there was Joe Dougherty, who, unlike Blanc, ACTUALLY stuttered!
This was part of Friz Freleng’s intention, as when he given the opportunity to direct the landmark Merrie Melodies short I Haven’t Got A Hat (1935), he decided to give Porky a stutter to differ the character from other cartoon characters of the time who commonly spoke with falsetto voices (Mickey Mouse, Bosko, Buddy). Friz called Warner’s casting for any actor that actually stutter, and that someone turned out to be Joe Dougherty.
Dougherty would voice Warner Bros. first cartoon star for about 12 shorts from 1935 to 1937, along with some additional one-shot characters in the Merrie Melodies shorts (Into Your Dance (1935), I Love to Singa (1936) to name a couple).
The reason his voice acting career ended quickly was due Dougherty was unable to control his stutter, leading to long hours in voice recording session, increasing budget issues, in addition to overuse of sound-on-film that was used back then, instead of tape. Dougherty’s final voice of Porky was Porky’s Romance (1937) directed by Frank Tashlin.
Well, I had trouble with, Porky, because he stuttered, and a lot of people said, "you can't do that". That's why I did it, because everybody was using falsetto voices, everything sounded the same. And I said, what can I do to make this character different? So I called up Warners' casting and said, do you got anybody who stutters? And they had this [Joe] Dougherty guy, who stuttered, and the guy could not just get through a line. And we were doing all of our sound on film then, there wasn’t any tape. If Jack Warner knew how much film I was using, I was through with animation. So I had to get somebody to mimic, and that was Mel [Blanc]. And of course, Mel can do anything. - Friz Freleng (”Friz on Film” documentary)
Of course, there is also a recently discovered story that in between Dougherty and Blanc, was Count Cutelli, who was said to work closely with Termite Terrace Warner Bros. cartoon producer, Leon Schlesinger and Disney.
Cutelli did the voice of Disney’s own Mickey Mouse, he would did some additional lines for Porky Pig to cut down costs.
Jim Korkis claims that Cutelli did the famous “That’s All Folks!” tag featuring Porky
Anyways, what do you people think of Mr. Dougherty himself? Do you believe he did a better Porky did Blanc did? Or was Blanc THE better Porky?

🌟 All Through The Night - FULL Short Film with Tim Daly 🌟
What a performance! 👏🏻
I can understand why Tim said it would be hard for Téa to see it (in reference to her dad going through something similar at the end of his life), because it is hard to see him like this.

It’s the night before his father, a retired choir conductor with Alzheimer’s (TIM DALY of "Madam Secretary" and "The Sopranos"), moves into a long-term clinic, and Neil Kelly (LUKE SLATTERY of "The Boys in the Boat") is determined to stir his dad’s memory while facing his own.

Does Space Emerge From A Holographic Boundary? Check out the Space Time Merch Store https://ift.tt/nFxpIHf Sign Up on Patreon to get access to the Space Time Discord! https://ift.tt/aHEU4Is Space seems fundamental. To build a universe, surely you need something to build it on or in. Many, maybe most physicists now think that the fabric of space emerges from something deeper. And perhaps the most existentially disturbing such proposal is that our 3-D universe is just the inward projection of an infinitely distant boundary. A hologram, or sorts. Let’s see how that can actually work, and what the holographic principle really says about the “realness” of this universe. Hellraiser TV Series: what is known so far
HBO Max is developing a TV series based on the Hellraiser franchise, separate from the 2022 Hellraiser film released on Hulu. The pilot and several initial episodes will be directed by David Gordon Green, known for his work on Halloween (2018). The series will be written by Mark Verheiden, known for Battlestar Galactica and Daredevil, and Michael Dougherty, who wrote and directed Trick 'r Treat and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The Hellraiser TV series will be an elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology, assuming the past events as a given. It will feature Pinhead, the iconic leader of the Cenobites, and explore the world of the Cenobites, who come from hell to harvest human souls and maintain balance between good and evil. Separate from the film: The HBO Max series is not related to the 2022 Hellraiser film directed by David Bruckner and released on Hulu. The TV series will tell an entirely new story with the series' lore and mythology as a backdrop As of October 2021, the Hellraiser TV series was still in the development stage, with no specific release date announced. The David Bruckner-led Hellraiser feature film, slated for a Hulu release, had completed shooting at that time.
An iconic horror movie
Hellraiser is a 1987 British supernatural horror film written and directed by Clive Barker, based on his 1986 novella "The Hellbound Heart". The movie follows a man and his wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature, the man's half-brother and the woman's former lover, hiding upstairs. The creature, named Frank, had lost his earthly body to a group of sadomasochistic demons called the Cenobites and is brought back to existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He then forces his former mistress to bring him the necessary human sacrifices to complete his body.
The film received mixed reviews upon its release, with some praising its unique vision and atmosphere, while others criticized its thin plot and unrealistic characters. Despite the mixed reception, Hellraiser has become a cult classic and is considered one of the best horror films of the 1980s. The movie's originality, atmosphere, and performances have been praised, although some viewers have noted that the novel on which it is based offers a more macabre and detailed experience.

Carmel has presented itself as a cultural center since its founding in 1903, when developer Frank Devendorf advertised his new town by mailing out fliers to draw in "the school teachers of California and other brain workers." By 1910 its reputation was already legendary, when the L.A. Times wrote, "Carmel [is] a hotbed of soulful culture and a vortex of erotic erudition."
In its heyday, from the creation of the Carmel Art Association in 1927 through the Second World War, some of the most prominent California artists lived and worked in the one-mile-square village, including luminaries such as Armin Hansen, William Ritschel, Paul Dougherty, Edgar Payne, Percy Gray and A.H. Gilbert, not to mention world-class photographers such as Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.
