SPIRITBOX Announces Spring 2025 North American Tour With LOATHE, DYING WISH And GEL
Tumblr media
Two-time Grammy-nominated progressive metal band SPIRITBOX has announced the "Tsunami Sea" North American tour. Kicking off April 3 in Dallas, Texas, produced by Live Nation, the 24-date tour will hit cities across the U.S. and Canada with LOATHE, DYING WISH and GEL as support.
Tickets will first be available through a Citi presale starting today, December 3. The official artist presale begins on December 4 and will include a special Spiritboxoffice pop-up event in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where fans can purchase tickets and meet the band. Additional presales will follow on December 5, ahead of the general onsale and Citi Cardmember Preferred Tickets, beginning Friday, December 6 at 10 a.m. local time on Spiritbox.com.
The tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value. To make this possible they have chosen to use Ticketmaster's Face Value Exchange. If fans purchase tickets for a show in the U.S. or Canada and can't attend, they'll have the option to resell them to other fans at the original price paid. To help protect the Exchange, the tour has requested all tickets be mobile only and restricted from transfer. This applies to all shows except those in Colorado, Illinois, and New York where Face Value Exchange cannot be mandated. Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange.
Citi is the official card of the "Tsunami Sea" North American tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Tuesday, December 3 at 12 p.m. ET until Thursday, December 5 at 10 p.m. local time through the Citi Entertainment program.
The announcement follows SPIRITBOX's second consecutive Grammy nomination for "Best Metal Performance" ("Cellar Door") which no woman has ever won this sole category. The tour announcement also follows the reveal of their anticipated sophomore album, "Tsunami Sea", slated for release on March 7 via Pale Chord / Rise Records. The album's first two singles, the heavy hitter "Soft Spine" and melodic "Perfect Soul", showcase the band's dynamic range and their ability to seamlessly fuse diverse sonic influences, offering a glimpse into the depth and ambition of the forthcoming record.
In addition to SPIRITBOX's headline U.S. and European tours in 2025, the band will jump on select dates of LINKIN PARK's world tour, joining the rock icons for performances in Italy, the Netherlands and the U.K.

Formed in 2017 in the picturesque-yet-isolated region of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, by singer Courtney Laplante and guitarist Mike Stringer, SPIRITBOX became a household name in rock circles in the summer of 2020 with the release of their blistering breakout single "Holy Roller", along with a host of other captivating singles shortly after, resulting in a media firestorm of hype.
With new and existing fans eagerly watching their next move, SPIRITBOX exceeded every expectation imaginable in 2021 with the release of their genre-defining debut studio album "Eternal Blue" via Pale Chord/Rise Records. "Eternal Blue", which debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200, kicked open the doors of the heavy metal scene and rewrote the genre's playbook with 12 stunning tracks that incorporated everything from djent and post-metal to infectious synth-laden pop sensibilities and cinematic arrangements, brought fully to life by the inimitable Laplante's ethereal and commanding vocal performances.
The album cycle for "Eternal Blue" saw SPIRITBOX not only grace the covers of esteemed music publications such as Revolver, Alternative Press, Rock Sound and Kerrang!, among many others but would also solidify the band as one of the most in-demand groups in live music today with their one-hundred percent sold out, first-ever headlining tour in support of the album which saw ticket sales over 40,000. The band would also share the stage with seasoned metal veterans such as LIMP BIZKIT and GHOST and win "Best International Breakthrough Band" at the 2021 Heavy Music Awards.
In 2022, SPIRITBOX secured highly-coveted spots at numerous major U.S. rock and metal festivals and were nominated for two Juno awards, respectively. SPIRITBOX would also round out their current lineup with the inclusion of drummer Zev Rose and bassist Josh Gilbert in addition to releasing their sonically experimental EP "Rotoscope" in June of that year as well as a cross-genre collaboration with dubstep artist Illenium for the track "Shivering".
During another whirlwind year for the band, including a U.S. tour with SHINEDOWN and PAPA ROACH, SPIRITBOX wrote and recorded their critically acclaimed EP "The Fear Of Fear", released in November 2023. The EP features the single "Jaded", which was nominated for "Best Metal Performance" at the 66th annual Grammy Awards. In the same month, the band would make another genre-bending splash with a high-profile collaboration with rapper Megan Thee Stallion for a remix of her song "Cobra".

One lucky 1€ eBay find: the monograph "Luigi Moretti - Works and Writings", edited by Federico Bucci and Marco Mulazzani and published 2002 by Princeton Architectural Press. Moretti's (1907-73) career was as magnificent as it was controversial due to his deep involvement with Italy's fascist regime during the 1930s and 1940s for which he designed e.g. the regulatory plan of the Foro Mussolini in Rome, the forum's Fencing Academy and Commemoration Cell. Although he largely disappeared from the public during 1942. At the end of the war he was, if only shortly, imprisoned for his support of fascism and for trying to establish a new political party. After being released Moretti in November 1945 set up the company Cofimprese together with Adolfo Fossataro, a company that developed housing-hotel complexes like the famous ship-like one in Milan. Of particular interest is his late work of the 1960s and early 1970s which also brought him international success as he designed the infamous Watergate complex in Washington or the Tour de Bourse in Montreal.
Bucci and Mulazzani shed light on a influential yet charged figure of Italian modern architecture whose works nonetheless deserve critical evaluation. In a long essay Mulazzani analyzes Moretti's designs as well as his career and personality, a very interesting read that again brings up many questions regarding the connection of politics and architecture. Of course the book also includes a considerable amount of period photos that show Moretti as an innovative and imaginative architect. The final part of the book collects the architect's writings on various topics including Giotto, Michelangelo and Baroque architecture or the meaning of structure in architecture.
All in all it is an important publication on a colorful Italian architect whose buildings still fascinate today.

continuity on claudette’s timeline and life before the fog! featuring lore crumbs from her cosmetics.
for the new year, claudette was invited to attend the exclusive Winter Gala at the Montreal Metropolitan Science Center. she pampered herself for the occasion, eager to discuss her role at the Montreal Metropolitan Science Center as the leader of its emerging tutoring program. proudly representing the Science Centre's educational mission and sharing how science had changed her life.
the Montreal Metropolitan Science Center seems to be inspired by the actual Montréal Science Centre in vieux port. it officially opened in 2000, and then in 2001: it created the Montréal Science Centre Foundation, supporting the development of innovative exhibition projects and educational programs, offering an annual sponsorship program that introduces science and technology to nearly 10,000 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. 2001 would most likely be the year she attended the gala and announced her involvement in the tutoring program. ultimately setting her canon timeline (and year/era that the entity had taken her) in the early 2000s.
claudette had come from a working class family, evidenced by her "science girl” superhero costume lovingly hand-sewn by her mother. and the shoe-box apartment she had come home to, after taking the bus from primary school (in her archive lore: claudette’s 8th birthday).
she would have likely grown up in ville-marie, in a neighborhood within walkable distance to the science center. a diverse borough comprising all of downtown montreal, including the quartier des spectacles; old montreal and the old port, etc.. as an arts and entertainment district, the quarter des spectacles is relevant to claudette’s lore continuity because she has canonically attended art festivals:
a full on makeover for the botanist formerly known as Science Girl, worn as part of her city's outdoor theatre festival: stunning all-natural curls complemented with colored shades. a belly-baring top paired with a custom designed hoodie & pendant from the shops of st. laurent. baggy sweatpants for ultimate movement and a pair of reliable canvas sneakers that are flexibly worn in.
implying claudette’s life in montreal was fulfilling, happy, and relatively social after her 8th birthday, specifically as her parents began to fully accept that she is neurodivergent!  she was the leader of a prestigious science program where she was honored as the star guest at their exclusive gala. she would go out dancing after “a long day of science,” and she participated in outdoor plays. claudette would never be considered an extrovert, but she understood the value of engaging with her community and the humanities.
but, over time, especially after moving away from montreal to attend university as a grad student (completely separated from her home, her support system, and forced to change strict routines she had set for herself over the years), claudette became more and more solitary, burnt out of socially masking:
claudette is not the outgoing type. her brilliance provided her with a social handicap and she has fled the real world for chat rooms and forums.
chat rooms and forums were extremely popular in the early 2000s, specifically before the 2010s when social media platforms began trending aggressively. forums were at their peak in 2005, and chat rooms primarily died out in 2007. putting the time-frame of her abduction by the entity somewhere around this time! she was most likely taken by the entity after she was accepted into an internship program in biochemistry:
she was starting her internship at one of the leading centers in biochemical research. [wore] comfy clothes to keep warm while collecting samples in the wild. loose jeans with wide pockets and a utility belt to carry all her equipment around.
her internship seemed to be hands-on, working with nature itself in field research. collecting samples— raw data— and processing it into information. she was eventually allowed to lead her own field research project, working out of a cabin in southern quebec’s new england-acadian forests, far removed from urban life. where she studied extinct fungi:
she left the city behind. it was rainy when she reached the cabin— perfect for her research on the growth cycles of extinct mushrooms. this wet, grey weather would make them pop in the mossy forest bed. the forest felt like home. it was so much more than trees and grass and plants. she saw what it took to create life, a fragile and multilayered ecosystem that fascinated her.
living alone in a cabin in the woods is not easy. objectively, it is not even considered safe. the predictable setting of a horror movie. but claudette is familiar with solitude, with that eight-year-old child inside her that could spend hours observing plants and animals, uninterrupted. incentivized to live independently in order to prove something to herself, and her worried parents. she took a 15-week training course in medical emergency response; fixed the leak in the cabin’s ceiling; hiked regularly, split wood for the cast-iron fireplace, gathered supplies. checked her emails. a steady routine was good. comforting, to an extent.
from the research cabin, claudette cultivated and studied several extinct fungi. in particular: paleoophiocordyceps coccophagus, related to ophiocordyceps, a parasitic fungi that targets ants, altering their behavior in order to propagate itself, biochemically instructing the ant to kill itself and then growing its fruiting bodies from the ant's head to release its spores.
her research allowed her to understand the neural mechanisms of all organic life and how they interact with their perceived environment, as carbon-based lifeforms on earth. science allowed her to understand that organic life depends entirely on the illusion of the flesh, and its sensory constructs.
her passion for botany and science makes her a formidable survivor, like the other scientists: vigo, benedict baker, etc.... and a potential threat to the entity’s cruel simulations.

The Agence Francophone
The term francophone refers to the worldwide community of French-speaking people. It includes nations and communities in all continents. The organization is a multilateral intergovernmental forum that promotes cooperation in the fields of education, culture and new technologies.
The organization’s charter was adopted in 2005. Its goals include promoting the French language and cultural and linguistic diversity. It also supports economic development and democracy.
The Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF)
Founded in 1961 a Montreal, the agence francophone de la Francophonie is the premier global network of universities, centers of scientific research and institutions of higher learning and the world's largest operator for university cooperation and development. It comprises more than 1 000 etablissements membres, distributed over five continents.
It is the only international organization with a mandate to implement the commitments made by the heads of state and governments at their summits. It also advises the Canadian federal government departments involved in planning and implementing projects announced at these summits, as well as those undertaken by La Francophonie institutions.
Respecting the diversity of cultures and languages, it aims for a university community engaged in the social, cultural and economic development of societies. It also advocates for a stronger role for La Francophonie in global governance, and fights against piracy, counterfeiting and terrorism. It also promotes economic development and sustainable development, food security and biodiversity and combats climate change.
During its three decades of development, the IFI has evolved ceaselessly. It is a highly prestigious Ă©tablissement of higher learning in Asia, recognized worldwide and offering its students a high-quality academic environment. Its success relies on its guiding values, namely the promotion of the French language and of the world’s cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as internationalism, interdisciplinarity, and quality.
The Agence internationale de la Francophonie (AIF)
The Agence internationale de la Francophonie (AUF) is the main intergovernmental organization of the French-speaking countries of the world. Its mission is to support the French language worldwide and promote cultural and linguistic diversity. It also supports international cooperation projects to boost economic development. The AUF is also a key organizer of the conferences of higher education and research ministers of the French-speaking world (Conference des ministres francophones de l’enseignement supĂ©rieur et du recherche: CONFEMER).
The political decision-making body of La Francophonie is the Sommet de la
Francophonie, which gathers heads of state and government from its member states every two years. In addition, the organisation has a consultative body called the Assemblee parlementaire de la Francophonie, four operating agencies – l’Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (Association of francophone universities), the international TV channel TV5Monde, the International Association of Mayors of the French-speaking world and the Universite Senghor d’Alexandrie -, and two permanent interministerial conferences: for education ministries and those for youth and sports.
The Assemblée internationale de la Francophonie (AIF)
The Assemblée internationale de la activités nautiques malte (also referred to as the Organization of International La Francophonie, or OIF) is an international organization made up of nations that have French as their official language and that share values such as peace, democracy, solidarity, and economic development. Its institutions promote cooperation among the members and work to advance the cultural, scientific, technical and economic interests of their populations.

"In the fall of 1932 Saint-Martin organized Spartakus, a cooperative printing house, as well a journal of the same name. Forum, another magazine put out by Spartakus, published contributions from UniversitĂ© OuvriĂšre [UO] supporters, sometimes on anticlerical themes. One contributor, signing himself S. Clave, that is “esclave” or “slave,” wrote that religion was the art of exploiting the credulity, fear, hope, and ignorance of others. Saint-Martin wrote most of the material in Spartakus itself, and sent copies to judges, members of Parliament and other public figures. He had 19,000 copies printed (11,000 in French and the remainder in English). One article was published as a twenty-four page pamphlet entitled Sandwiches Ă  la shouashe. Unfortunately this endeavour would give the government reason to formally prosecute him. [In the Sandwiches pamphlet] Saint-Martin constructed a parody of Catholic charity: it was shameful; it was morally and psychologically degrading. “EnsoutanĂ©s,” clergymen, were thieves. Priests were “paid-organizers” (Saint-Martin used the English phrase) who climbed the ranks and were rewarded extravagantly on the basis of how much money they could raise. The communist argued that churches were designed to mesmerize and dazzle congregations. The dim lighting in the nave contrasted with bright sanctuary lights, the compelling organ music, the dramatic clerical garments, the ritual movements and gestures, repeated again year after year – all these elements were psychologically devised to enthrall the faithful and hypnotize them into emptying their pockets.
Once the clergy had the money, Saint-Martin hypothesized, they would spend most of it on themselves and dole out just a tiny amount to those in need. He imagined the unemployed who asked for charity being forced to their knees with their arms crossed, to give thanks to God for the gifts given them. When their arms got tired they were forced to hold them behind their backs. Then, for the cruel enjoyment (“a truly sadistic theocracy”) of dominating the oppressed, sandwiches were placed in front of each on a chair, right where people put their “posteriors.”
...
Meanwhile fat monks watched gleefully, their paunches shaking as their braying laughter echoed down the street. They were cheerful in their utter triumph over the poor, blinded masses. The rule of the whitewashed tombs (pure on the outside, but full of death and decay) had come to pass. The Church assassinated mankind using the diabolical invention of Saul of Tarsus (alias St Paul), Charity. This scam of charity filled the coffers of the clergymen to overflowing. “All crime has a motive,” Saint-Martin continued.
That of charitable institutions is clear: it is to make money and to generate a profit from the difference between the fabulous sums they receive from all the dupes, including our legislators, and the insignificant pittance they give to the needy.
For his articles in Spartakus, and in particular the sections excerpted in the Sandwiches pamphlet, Saint-Martin was charged with blasphemous libel in January 1933. In March, Montreal’s Église Saint-Jacques was burned down, and suspicion fell on Raoul Paquette and his wife. When the couple was detained, Raoul was found to be carrying an id card issued by the Association humanitaire [a UO association]. The case against them does not seem to have led to a trial, but the issue was soon raised in Quebec’s National Assembly. Maurice Duplessis, then the leader of the Opposition, implied that it was some of Saint-Martin’s communists who were to blame. When he asked Premier Taschereau what he intended to do about the UO’s subversive activities, the premier responded by announcing that a new law would be forthcoming. Indeed, the following month the minister of labour introduced legislation aimed at closing the UO. Since the UniversitĂ© was registered as a library, the new law closed all libraries established under the “Loi des bibliothĂšques et des instituts d’artisans,” and required them to make fresh applications for charters. Approval for the UO would not be granted. Saint-Martin used his considerable experience with the legal system to protect himself and his organization. After the law changed, he simply re-registered the UO, this time as a business association. Meanwhile, by filing different writs, he tried to get the blasphemous libel case dismissed or reviewed on various technicalities. Once the case was underway, Saint-Martin was also charged with seditious libel, and the two cases continued simultaneously. Then the seditious libel case was put on hold as Saint-Martin was sent to be examined for signs of insanity. The communist responded by filing a writ of habeas corpus on himself; this was denied. Less than two weeks later Saint-Martin was deemed sane and released on bail.
In September 1933, with his court cases still pending, Saint-Martin faced fresh opposition, this time from fascists. The fascist movement in Quebec, inspired by the governments of Italy and Germany, came into the open in 1933. Two rival leaders emerged: the writer and newspaper editor Adrien Arcand, and J. Anaclet Chalifoux, leader of the FĂ©dĂ©ration des clubs ouvriers. This latter group donned brown shirts, like the Nazi SS, and caught the city’s attention with a massive Easter parade to St Joseph’s Oratory. It was a clear statement of their twin fascist and Catholic sympathies. At around the same time, Saint-Martin had become interested in the ideas of Technocracy that were briefly popular in the United States in the early 1930s. Technocrats envisioned a world run by objective social and economic engineers, in which money would be replaced by units of energy. He formed what he called the Technocracy Education Conference at a new location on rue Saint-Zotique. It seems in practice to have been substantially similar to the UO, and the new name may have been an attempt to deflect hostility from the “communist” nature of his other organizations. At a meeting on 22 September 1933, Pilon and another speaker reportedly gave anti-Catholic talks at one of Saint-Martin’s gatherings (he kept the Montcalm and Craig locations alongside Saint-Zotique). Elsewhere in the city, Italian Catholics were gathering for a special religious feast, in the presence of a papal delegate. The Catholics claimed that Saint-Martin and his followers had come out to insult them during a solemn religious procession. In retaliation a coalition of Italian-Canadian fascists and Chalifoux’s French-Canadian brownshirts stormed into the Saint-Zotique location, disrupted the meeting being held there, and “wrecked the premises.” Once again the fascists posed as defenders of Catholicism. In writing to Chalifoux to defend himself, Saint-Martin insisted that he had not come out to insult the procession; nor had the ensuing meeting been anti-religious in nature. The authorities, well aware what had happened, were unsympathetic. The commanding officer of the RCMP in Quebec commented: “It is obvious that any radical who attacks the church in this province is asking for trouble.”
...
Before a decision was reached in the case, Saint-Martin came under fire from a new direction. The fascist raid on the Saint-Zotique hall showed that at least some of his enemies were willing to use violence against him. Scuffles between his supporters and aggressive opponents became commonplace. This culminated in a brutal assault on Saint-Martin, now in his late sixties. In the evening of 1 October 1933, a gang of club-wielding assailants attacked him on his way to a meeting at the Saint-Zotique location, beating him about the head and shoulders and knocking him down. When police intervened the attackers fled. The activist tried to go about his business but quickly collapsed. He was taken to hospital and received ten stitches to close the head wounds that had been inflicted. Soon afterward, Émile Godin was also attacked and beaten, likewise ending up in hospital. The timing of the violence suggests Chalifoux’s fascists were to blame, but the identity of the assailants was never determined.
Since Saint-Martin needed at least two weeks to recover, Judge Lacroix’s decision on the blasphemy charges was postponed. Eventually, on 13 November 1933, the verdict was delivered with extensive commentary. Lacroix explained that he had interpreted Article 198 to mean that attacks on any religious subjects were blasphemous, provided they were made in bad faith and with offensive language. He felt it necessary to point to an English precedent in which attacks on Christianity, the Bible, sacred persons or objects all counted as blasphemous libel.
...
The activities of men like Saint-Martin were a threat, not just to individuals but to the fabric of the nation. Saint-Martin’s writings were specifically aimed at “un grand nombre de nos amis” (“many of our friends”), that is, local Quebec judges, lawyers, and politicians at all levels, who, in the judge’s view, were doing their best to help the suffering population with food and shelter."

The future of space exploration includes some rather ambitious plans to send missions farther from Earth than ever before. Beyond the current proposals for building infrastructure in cis-lunar space and sending regular crewed missions to the Moon and Mars, there are also plans to send robotic missions to the outer Solar System, to the focal length of our Sun’s gravitational lens, and even to the nearest stars to explore exoplanets. Accomplishing these goals requires next-generation propulsion that can enable high thrust and consistent acceleration. Focused arrays of lasers – or directed energy (DE) – and lightsails are a means that is being investigated extensively – such as Breakthrough Starshot and Swarming Proxima Centauri. Beyond these proposals, a team from McGill University in Montreal has proposed a new type of directed energy propulsion system for exploring the Solar System. In a recent paper, the team shared the early results of their Laser-Thermal Propulsion (LTP) thruster facility, which suggests that the technology has the potential to provide both high thrust and specific impulse for interstellar missions. The research team was led by Gabriel R. Dube, an Undergraduate Research Trainee with the McGill Interstellar Flight Experimental Research Group (IFERG), and Associate Professor Andrew Higgins, the Principal Investigator of the IFERG. They were joined by Emmanuel Duplay, a graduate researcher from the Technische Universiteit Delft (TU Delft); Siera Riel, a Summer Research Assistant with the IFERG; and Jason Loiseau, an Associate Professor with the Royal Military College Of Canada. The team presented their results at the 2024 AIAA Science and Technology Forum and Exposition and in a paper that appeared in the AIAA journal Aerospace Research Central (ARC). Artist’s concept of a Bimodal Nuclear Thermal Rocket in Low Earth Orbit. Credit: NASA Higgins and his colleagues originally proposed this concept in a 2022 paper that appeared in Acta Astronautica – titled “Design of a rapid transit to Mars mission using laser-thermal propulsion.” As Universe Today reported at the time, the LTP was inspired by interstellar concepts like Starshot and Project Dragonfly. However, Higgins and his associates from McGill were interested in how the same technology could enable rapid transit missions to Mars in just 45 days and throughout the Solar System. This method, they argued, could also validate the technologies involved and act as a stepping stone toward interstellar missions. As Higgins told Universe Today via email, the concept came to them during the pandemic when they were unable to get into their lab: “[M]y students did a detailed conceptual study of how we could use the kind of large laser arrays envisioned for the Breakthrough Starshot for a more near-term mission in the Solar System. Rather than at 10-km-diameter, 100-GW laser envisioned for Breakthrough Starshot, we limited ourselves to a 10-m-diameter, 100-MW laser and showed it would be able to deliver power to a spacecraft out to nearly the distance of the Moon. By heating hydrogen propellant to 10,000s of K, the laser enables the “holy grail’ of high thrust and high specific impulse.” The concept is similar to nuclear-thermal propulsion (NTP), which NASA and DARPA are currently developing for rapid transit missions to Mars. In an NTP system, a nuclear reactor generates heat that causes hydrogen or deuterium propellant to expand, which is then focused through nozzles to generate thrust. In this case, phased-array lasers are focused into a hydrogen heating chamber, which is then exhausted through a nozzle to realize specific impulses of 3000 seconds. Since Higgins and his students returned to the lab, he said, they have been attempting to experimentally verify their idea: “Obviously, we don’t have a 100 MW laser at McGill, but we now have a 3-kilowatt laser set-up in the lab (which is scary enough) and are studying how the laser would couple its energy to a propellant (eventually hydrogen, but for now argon just because it is easier to ionize). The AIAA paper reports on the design, construction, and ‘shake-down’ of our 3-kW laser facility.” Artist’s impression of a directed-energy propulsion laser sail in action. Credit: Q. Zhang/deepspace.ucsb.edu Higgins and his team constructed an apparatus containing 5 to 20 bars of static argon gas from their tests. While the final concept will utilize hydrogen gas as a propellant, they used argon gas for the test because it is easier to ionize. They then fired the 3-kW laser in pulses at a frequency of 1070 nanometers (corresponding to the near-infrared wavelength) to determine the threshold power necessary for Laser-Sustained Plasma (LSP). Their results indicated that around 80% of the laser energy was deposited into the plasma, which is consistent with previous studies. The pressure and spectral data they acquired also revealed the peak LSP temperature with the working gas, though they stress that further research is needed for conclusive results. They also stressed that a dedicated apparatus is needed to conduct forced flow and other LSP tests. Lastly, the team plans to conduct thrust measurements later this year to gauge how much acceleration (delta-v) and specific impulse (Isp) a laser-thermal propulsion system can deliver for future missions to Mars and other planets in the Solar System. If the technology is up to the task, we could be looking at a system capable of delivering astronauts to Mars in weeks rather than months! Other concepts selected for the NIAC this year include tests to evaluate hibernation systems for long-duration missions in microgravity. Alone or in combination, these technologies could enable fast-transit missions that require less cargo and supplies and minimize astronaut exposure to microgravity and radiation. Ontario Welcomes New Living Lab to Combat Climate Change in Agriculture
Tumblr media
Federal Government Invests $9.2 Million in Ontario's Agricultural Climate Solutions
In an exciting development for Ontario's agricultural community, Tim Louis, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Conestoga, announced the establishment of a groundbreaking living lab in the province. The lead partner for this transformative initiative is the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association (OSCIA). With a significant investment of up to $9.2 million over five years from the federal government, the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) – Living Labs program aims to bolster climate change responses within the agricultural sector.
Co-developing Sustainable Practices
The living lab brings together farmers, scientists, and various stakeholders to co-develop and test beneficial management practices (BMPs) on Ontario farms. These innovative BMPs will support livestock and cropping systems, nitrogen use, manure storage, landscape management, and grazing techniques.   Nationwide Impact This program builds on the success of previous living labs in PEI, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, with the aim of having at least one living lab in every Canadian province. The ACS – Living Labs program operates through contribution agreements, allowing for flexible project developments and funding negotiations.
Diverse Partnerships
The first nine ACS – Living Labs, announced in 2022, are already making strides in sustainable agriculture. They are led by organizations such as Alberta Beef Producers, Alberta Conservation Association, B.C. Investment Agriculture Foundation, and more. The recent announcement of two new Quebec living labs, led by L’Union des producteurs agricoles and Les Producteurs de lait du QuĂ©bec, further expands the program's reach and impact.
Canada's Global Leadership
The concept of agroecosystem living labs was introduced by Canada to G20 Agriculture Ministers in 2018. It has since gained international recognition as a novel approach to fostering sustainable agricultural practices and technologies worldwide.   Promoting Environmental Sustainability Aligned with Canada's ambitious environmental goals, the Agricultural Climate Solutions program aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 to 45% from 2005 levels by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. These initiatives demonstrate Canada's commitment to environmental sustainability and resiliency in the agricultural sector.   International Collaboration In line with its global leadership, Canada will co-host the first International Forum on Agroecosystem Living Labs in Montreal, Quebec from October 4 to 6, 2023. This event will gather experts and stakeholders to discuss best practices, case studies, and challenges facing the international agroecosystem living lab community worldwide. Through collaboration and innovation, Canada continues to pave the way toward a more sustainable future for agriculture.   Sources: THX News, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada & Canadian Government. SEE: Alt Rock | King Krule - “Flimsier” + Tour
Tumblr media
King Krule releases “Flimsier,” the opening track from his highly anticipated forthcoming album Space Heavy, which gets a full release this Friday via Matador Records. The new single comes alongside a visualizer created by Archy’s long-time collaborator and brother, Jack Marshall. “Filmsier” is the final single to be revealed from Space Heavy, following the acclaimed singles “Seaforth” and “If Only It Was Warmth.” The track first sparked a frenzy in fans last year, when King Krule debuted it during his performance at Primavera Sound. Then again, when it resurfaced via exclusive flexi-discs sold at King Krule’s SHHH Tour in April - an intimate run of shows across the US, UK, and EU that sold out in under 2 minutes. The single became a fan favourite, racking up hundreds of thousands of streams via fan videos on YouTube. After a year of waiting, “Filmsier” gets an official release today. On Friday of this week, King Krule will release Space Heavy in full. The 15-track full-length inhabits the deepest reaches of the subterranean sonic world that Archy Marshall has constructed over the course of his career as King Krule. Written over the course of commutes between London and Liverpool, where Archy was splitting his time, he found himself fascinated by the notion of “the space between”; the space haunted by dreams of love, lost connection, losing people and situations to the guillotine of the universe. Once written by Archy, the music was developed by frequent collaborator Dilip Harris and long-time band mates Ignacio Salvadores (Saxophonist), George Bass (Drummer), James Wilson (Bass Guitarist) and Jack Towell (Guitarist). The result sees King Krule stepping into the height of their artistic powers; using his years of experience to create a dynamic body of work that reveals something new with every listen.
