I've got to go to a formal dinner tonight.
I had to learn how to tie a bowtie (physically painful), but now I can do heehee haha dw references which is fun
But also it's a properly formal 3 course meal at a golf club and I have to do all the social mannerisms and follow the etiquette otherwise I get fined so uh... I hope I remember everything lmao

yes yes "Ianthe thinks she's the main character" this, "she thinks it's a romcom" that, but I'd actually unironically Would read The Tridentarius Cut of tlt. imagine it.
it's called The Prince Ascendant or something in that vein. gripping political space opera with a dash of romance to make you swoon and some smut and blood to spice it up. the cover is Ianthe holding her rapier in one hand, Babs's half-chewed heart in the other. the blurb says "she could eat you alive and you WILL say thank you". Ianthe autographs all copies whether you want it or not

Hot Take
museums should label 19th-century women’s clothing primarily by formality (except in the case of garments with specific purposes, eg. “cycling costume” or “nightgown”), not by the 10,000 different terms they might be called at the time
my reasoning is that the current hodgepodge of terms, while technically accurate to the period:
1. reinforces the myth that middle- or upper-class women used to always change their dresses many times a day No Matter What, rather than what seems to me the primary-source-supported reality- that they changed situationally, as necessary
2. promotes unnecessary disconnect between the past and the present. we have varying degrees of clothing formality today, just without specific terms for each one. they had garments that could serve for multiple purposes and be dressed up or down with accessories back then. but because we don’t talk about an “afternoon dress” vs. a “ball gown” and they didn’t talk about the dress code for a party being “nice casual” vs. “dressy.” there’s this false idea that our systems of clothing changes/formality are Totally Different. which is really not the case, I think
3. even they couldn’t agree on what to call each individual outfit! I’ve seen fashion plates in magazines where the textual description and the label on the image give the same dress different names
this post brought to you by: Marzi Has Seen Too Many Gowns Labeled “Evening Gown” On Museum Websites Apparently For Their Formality When In Truth They Do Not Have The Single Factor That Usually Made A Dress Strictly For Evening At The Time (namely, revealing more skin about the chest and arms) And Therefore Would Have Stood Just As Well For Formal Daytime Events

Guys what do you do when you meet your divorced dad’s girlfriend and she’s got your exact energy but is age-appropriate for your dad? How weird should I feel that my dad is dating Boomer Jewish Me, personality-wise?

while I was on my cruise I couldn't stop thinking about being in a hot bubbly jacuzzi with Miguel and just endearingly hanging out with him on the side of the boat where you listen to the waves clash amongst the side of the ship and the moon beaming it's glorious light down, having a civil small talk with lingering, slow grazes with gentle finger touches.

you can use a colon to mean "and here's an example of/elaboration on what i was just talking about", but if you do that more than once in a single sentence i'm going to be side-eyeing you. maybe at that point you need a new and exciting punctuation mark that some are calling the "full stop" or "period". you don't even have to pay to use it or anything, it's totally free! try it out sometime, you might like it :)

Hello there! Curious to know what kind of outfits you think Padmé suggests/dresses Anakin up in on their ~*fashion date*~ stealingpotatoes(.)tumblr(.)com/713965394712526848
q 1. thank you for reminding me that "design some fix-it au outfits" has been on my to draw list for like 3 months and 2. just like. every outfit in star wars ever. she's absolutely trying various naboo fashions first (she wants to match) and then various other fancy Coruscanti fashions loll -- and in her defence, neither her nor Anakin knows what casual fashion he likes beforehand! so its not selfish to try get him matching her! ...except he pretty quickly realises that yeahhhh i think im just gonna get some normal tshirts and jackets this isn't my style
