Under the Radar - Matthew Tkachuk
Summary: Matthew Tkachuk elopes with his secret lover, the biggest issue... she's Luke Hughes' twin sister.
Content: marriage, secret relationship, age gap (it's legal!!), angst, unsupportive family, mentions of sex, fighting, physical violence (not between couple!)
WC: 3.45k
notes: i listened to "Archie, Marry Me" by Alvvays on repeat while writing this and "Please Please Please" cause that's how freya feels about matt here lol i've been watching the stanley cup finals and my love for matt tkachuk has grown hehe enjoy!! :D obviously idk anyone in this story personally, so it's all for the drama !!
Freya giggled as Matthew placed kisses on her exposed shoulder. She was standing in front of the full body mirror in her boyfriend's room, flattening out the silky white dress that she'd chosen for the occasion. The white silk fell mid thigh and had small slit on the left side, a small bow adorned the corseted top.
"Fuck, you look stunning, love," Matt whispered in her ear, goosbumps forming on the back of her neck.
"I just need to do my hair, then we can head out," Freya smiled, giving Matthew a quick peck as she walked into his bathroom. He followed her, watching as she took the heated curling iron and spun a piece of her dirty blonde hair around it. After finishing some loose curls and setting them with hair spray, Freya did a once over in the mirror.
"What d'you think, Matty?"
"Hottest girl on this planet," he smirked, trailing kisses along her neck.
"Stop! We've gotta get to the courthouse."
"Right, right. But after..."
"Matt!"
"We've gotta consummate the marriage, Frey."
She giggled, hiding her face in his neck. He placed a kiss to her head, spinning her around so he could admire them in the mirror. She grabbed her phone, snapping a quick mirror pic.
"That one's getting framed," she nodded, zooming on her boyfriend's face.
"Are you sure you don't want me to shave? Just for the photos?" Matt offered.
"No! The scruff is soooo hot! Jess said we have to look hot for our photos!"
"Okay, okay. Can't believe Jess knows we're getting married, but our families don't."
"We'll tell them when it's time. Plus, Jess is good at keeping secrets."
That was true. Freya's best friend, Jessica, had been keeping the couple's relationship a secret for a year and a half now. The girls had met at University of Miami two years before and had been best friends ever since.
"You got your ring?" Matthew asked, placing the small velvet box in his suit jack.
"Yes, sir! I'm so excited!"
"Me too, baby. Can't wait for you to be Mrs. Tkachuk."
"Sounds so hot when you say it," she flirted, placing a hand on his lapel.
He winked, "Sit on the bed. I'll help you with your heels."
Freya complied, bouncing as she sat down. Matt grabbed the strappy, white heels from his closet. He guided her feet into them, gently doing up the buckles. She ran a hand through his hair, fixing it the way she liked it.
"Shall we, Future Mrs. Tkachuk?"
"We shall," she giggled, interlocking their arms as they walked to the parking garage.
"And Miss Hughes, do you take Matthew Tkachuk to be your lawfully wedded husband?" the man behind the counter asked.
"I do," she beamed, holding Matt's hands tightly in her own.
"Do you, Mr. Tkachuk, take Freya Hughes to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
"You may now kiss the bride."
The couple met in a sweet kiss, not wanting it to be too long in the public courthouse.
"If you'll both just sign here and here," the man smiled, sliding the paper and pen towards the couple. "Pefect! You two are now legally married. Congratulations!"
Freya's smile was so wide, it hurt her cheeks. She was practically jumping as they exited the building. Matthew was smiling just as brightly, tightly gripping onto his wife's waist.
"Jess!" Freya exclaimed, throwing her arms around her best friend.
"There's Mrs. Tkachuk! Always knew you two would end up together, Frey. I've been telling you since we met," Jess whispered. Freya blushed, pushing her best friend.
"Let's go take some photos!" Matthew guided the girls into his car, driving them down to a small, very private park. They snapped some cute photos together, before Jess handed Freya a bottle of champagne. She shook it, spraying the alcohol all over herself and her husband. Jess got some amazing candids of the couple, especially as they met in a passionate kiss that she snapped a few shots of.
"Enjoy your wedding night!" Jess shouted, waving goodbye.
Freya couldn't stop giggling as they entered Matt's bedroom, "We're married! I'm married to the love of my life!"
"Did you chug a bunch of that champagne when I wasn't looking? Or are you just drunk on love?" Matt teased.
"Matt! We're married!"
"I know, love! Freya Tkachuk. God, that sounds so hot," his voice was gruff as he pulled her on top of him on the bed.
"I love you so much," she pressed kisses all over his face.
"I love you too, Frey. Now... shall we make this marriage official," he smirked, placing his hands on her hips.
"Any cute boys at school?" Ellen asked.
"What? No, Mom. I told you I'm focusing on my degree," Freya giggled, helping her mom to make dinner. They were at the cottage that Quinn and Jack had purchased. The Hughes family had invited the Tkachuks for a weekend and Freya was desperately trying to hide her excitement, having not seen her husband in just over a month.
"I know, I know. Just thought maybe some would've caught your eye. Who knows... maybe when Luke's friends come you'll find one of them cute."
"Mom!"
"Sorry, sorry. But, Luke told me that Dylan's little brother is single."
"MOM!"
Ellen laughed, continuing to cut up the fruit in front of her.
"We're home!" Quinn shouted, placing his keys in the bowl in the front hall. Ellen quickly wiped her hands off, running to meet their guests.
"Chantal! Keith! How've you been?"
The two families immediately started chatting away, Freya biting her lip when she saw Matt wink at her. She was pulled into a conversation with Chantal about school and if Matt had helped her out at all while living in Flordia.
"Oh, yeah. He always asks if I need anything. I even went to a few games first semester," she smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Look at that ring! So cute! Where'd you get it?" Taryn squealed.
"My best friend Jess bought it for me!" Freya lied. That was the excuse that the couple had come up with. Matt had 'bought his own ring' and 'Jess' had bought Freya's.
"It's beautiful! Could be a wedding ring!"
"Yeah. She's the best."
"You live with Jess?" Chantal asked.
"Yeah, yeah. We've lived together this past year."
"Before we get too far into conversation, let's show everyone their rooms," Ellen smiled, unknowingly saving Freya from crafting more lies.
After a dinner full of catching up, Matt and Freya sat around the fire with the rest of the kids. The adults had called it a night an hour before, but the young adults were still buzzing with excitement. Freya was clasping a seltzer between her hands, sitting between her twin and Taryn.
"No boyfriend?" Taryn asked, taking a sip of her White Claw.
"Hm? I'm too focused on school."
"Lukey's been trying to set her up with Tyler Duke, but she's not interested," Quinn snorted from beside Brady.
"He's just... not my type."
"Not your type? Tyler is like the definition of your type, Frey! Curly haired, hockey player? You'd marry him on the spot if you hadn't convinced yourself you're focused on your studies," Luke laughed.
Freya's eyes looked around the fire, meeting with Matt's, who had his eyebrow quirked.
"Tell us more about this Tyler kid," he mused, taking a long drink from his beer.
"He's a sophmore at Umich. Is madly in love with Freya and has been since I started doing hockey with Dylan. They even kissed when they were like 14."
"Luke! Stop!" Freya hid her face in her hands. Matthew looked unimpressed, chugging the rest of his beer, before cracking open another one.
"Maybe Freya doesn't like younger guys," Jack joked, making Matthew cover his smirk with his new drink.
"Can we stop talking about my love life? Please!"
"It's okay, Frey. Matt's is just as sad," Brady joked, patting his older brother on the back.
"What can I say? Baby brother got married before me, and all my hopes and dreams went down the drain," Matt retorted, staring directly at Freya. She swallowed harshly, now reaching for another drink. She couldn't do this sober.
After the awkward conversation about her love life, or lack there of, Freya was silent. She didn't want to accidentally say something to out the face that she was married at 20, especially with all the alcohol running through her system. It wasn't until the next day that things really went down hill.
Everyone was paying Quinn to get more alcohol for that night. Matt opened his wallet when a photo fell out, not noticing he fished out a ten dollar bill and handed it to the eldest Hughes. Luke bent down, grabbing the photo that had fallen on the floor. His brow furrowed as he studied the image. His sister in a Panthers jersey, her arms wrapped around a sweaty looking Matt.
"What's wrong, Rusty?" Jack laughed, "What's that?"
Luke handed the photo to his brother, who also took a moment to study it.
"Is that Freya?"
"What're we looking at?" Freya smiled, pushing her way between her brothers. Her face fell, "Where'd you get that?"
"Matt dropped it," Luke's eyes narrowed at his sister.
"Oh. Hm, that's... huh," she trailed off.
"Quinn! Come look at this!" Jack waved over his brother, who was chatting with Brady. Matt had disappeared off to the kitchen to talk to Jim.
"Why? Oh... Frey?" Quinn shot her a questioning look after being handed the photo.
"Why's everyone so upset? We're friends," she tried to smile.
"Then why's it in his wallet?" Luke sneered.
"Because... we're really good friends?" she shrugged, sounding unsure of herself.
Quinn huffed, pushing the photo into Jack's chest. He stormed off to the kitchen, followed by the rest of the kids. He harshly pushed Matt, making the taller boy stumble.
"Wow. What the hell, Quinn?" Matt turned around.
"You're fucking my little sister?! She's barely legal, Matthew! And you're fucking 26!"
"Quinn," Ellen warned, but her son didn't listen. He pushed Matt again, this time getting a shove in return.
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about, but you need to calm the fuck down," Matt attempted to keep his composure, knowing he could easily overpower the Hughes' boy.
"Don't even pretend to be innocent! You've been sleeping with Freya!"
"Freya? What's Quinn talking about, dear?" Ellen asked, moving away from the boys.
"I- I don't know, Mom."
"Bullshit! Look at this, Mom!" Jack handed the photo over. Ellen looked it over, a confused expression covering her face. She met Freya's pleading eyes, biting her bottom lip.
The fight between Quinn and Matt was escalating. After a particularly harsh push from Quinn, Matthew tackled him to the floor. The kitchen broke out into hysterics. Everyone was shouting, telling the boys to stop. Freya had started to cry, Taryn holding onto her tightly. Even if Taryn was a little upset she didn't know about her childhood friend's relationship with her brother, she was still going to support her.
"Enough!" Jim's voice broke through the noise, he and Keith wrangled Mattew off Quinn. "Everyone in the living room, now!"
Freya stood next to Taryn, her shoulders shaking with sobs. Quinn and Luke were fuming. Jack appeared to be a bit upset, but he wasn't as protective over his little sister.
"Someone, please, explain what the hell is going on here!" Jim boomed.
"Matt's been taking advantage of Freya!" Quinn exclaimed.
"Matthew," Chantal looked towards her oldest.
"He- he's not taking advantage of me," Freya wiped her nose on the sleeve of her hoodie.
"Let's hear what Matthew and Freya have to say before we jump to conclusions," Ellen mediated.
"I-" Freya started.
"We're married," Matthew cut her off. Silence filled the room.
"You're what?!" Jim asked, anger covering his face.
"We- we got married at the end of the semester," Freya explained, more tears leaving her eyes. Taryn rubbed her back comfortingly.
"Why?! Are you pregnant?!" Chantal gasped.
"No, Mom. She's not pregnant. We- we love each other."
"She's 20!" Luke yelled.
"This... this does seem a bit sudden, Frey," Jack mumbled.
"No! Matthew and I are in love!" Freya sobbed, standing up and moving towards him. Jim stopped her before she could, handing her over to her mother.
"I think it's best you leave, Matthew," Jim sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"You're kicking my son out for being in love?!" Chantal screeched, "No way!"
"She's practically still a teenager!" Quinn retorted.
"She's an adult! And they made an adult decision. Although, I would've appreciated an invite."
"It was private, Mom. Just us at the courthouse."
"You got fucking eloped to him?!" Quinn growled at his sister. She sobbed harder, hiding her face in her mom's shoulder.
"I think it's best if we all leave," Keith sighed, patting Jim on the back.
"No! Matty," Freya cried, but Ellen pulled her back.
"Shh, love. It's okay," she cooed, running a hand through Freya's hair.
Matthew nodded solemnly. And just like that the Tkachuks were gone.
"Freya, why did you think it was a good idea to get eloped?" Jim asked, sitting across from his daughter at the table.
"I- I love him. We just... it felt right."
"We... we just would've liked to know, Frey. That's a big decision to make."
"I know, Mom. I'm sorry. We were just happy living in our own little world. We were going to tell everyone later."
"We're happy that you're happy, Freya. You just need to get your brothers to feel the same way. I'm sorry for kicking Matthew out, I just didn't want the boys to fight anymore. And it is Quinn's house," Jim sighed.
"Thanks, Dad. It's okay. I'm sure Matt understands. I love you guys."
"We love you too, Freya," Ellen smiled, pulling her daughter in for a hug.
Freya knocked on Quinn's door, getting an exasperated "WHAT?!" in response.
"It's Frey. Can we talk?"
"I'm not sure I want to," Quinn replied.
"Come on, Quinn. Hear me out."
"Fine. Come in."
Freya sat on the edge of her brother's bed, him sitting next to her. The air in the room felt thick, and it made her anxiety even worse.
"I'm- Freya, I just want to understand what your thought process was when you decided to get married to a guy you've been with for a year."
"I'm in love. Don't people say love makes you do dumb things?"
"He's 26."
"I know. But I'm an adult too. It isn't illegal. And it's not like I married some random guy. You know Matt. You've known Matt forever."
"Doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Are you sure this wasn't a shotgun wedding?"
"I'm not pregnant! We're always safe when we-"
"I don't want to hear about your sex life. Especially your sex life with Matthew Tkachuk," Quinn groaned. "But I guess I'm relieved you aren't pregnant."
"Yeah, me too," she giggled.
"Look, I'll get over this, Frey. I just need time. I'm your big brother and I'll always love you, but... I don't know how to feel about this."
"But it has nothing to do with you, Quinn. It's my life. I decided to get married."
"Nothing to do with me? Freya, you're my little sister. And you kept this secret from the whole family. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to be pissed! Especially when you married my best friend's older brother!"
"I- I'm sorry, Quinn. I'll give you the time. But please remember that I... I am an adult."
"I know, Freya. I know. I- I love you."
"Love you too, Quinn."
"Cracking Luke isn't going to be this easy. He's really upset," Quinn sighed.
Freya entered Luke's room, "Leave."
"Luke."
"No. Leave. I don't want to see you."
"Luke-"
"Leave, Freya! I don't want to talk to you! You betrayed my trust."
"I'm not leaving, Luke."
He sat up in his bed and if looks could kill, Freya would be dead.
"Fine. You want to hear what I have to say? I'm pissed. I am so fucking mad at you. You're my twin! You... you've always told me everything! And I tell you everything! Then I have to find out through a photo that you're not even just dating Matthew Tkachuk... you're married to the fucking guy! Would've been nice to know! Like I don't know... when you started TALKING TO HIM!"
"Luke-"
"No, Freya. I don't want to hear your side of things. Leave. NOW!"
Freya returned to her room with tears in her eyes, clicking on Matt's contact and holding her phone up to her ear.
"Hey, baby. Everything okay?"
"Mom and Dad are happy for us. Quinn said he'll get over it. I don't think Jack even cares. But Luke... Luke is really mad at me. I don't think he's been this mad since I broke his Sidney Crosby mini stick when we were kids."
"I- I can come get you, love. Go for a little drive."
"I want to go home, Matty."
"Home? Like Florida?"
"Yes," she sobbed.
"Okay... okay, baby. We can do that. I-"
"Come get me."
"Okay, yeah. I'm coming. I love you, Freya."
"I love you too, Matt."
A week later, Freya felt like she could finally breathe. Matt wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her back flush against his chest. He rocked them back and forth, whispering sweet nothings into her ear.
"I love you."
"I love you too. You wanna get ready for bed? It's been a long couple of days."
She shook her head, spinning to wrap her arms around his neck.
"What do you want, Frey? Anything you want."
"You," she whispered, meeting their lips in a sweet kiss.
The next morning, Freya woke up to her phone ringing repeatedly.
"Hello?" she answered sleepily. Matthew groaned, rolling over and pulling her body closer to his.
"Hey, Frey! Luke's kind of miserable. D'you think you could talk to him?" Jack's voice broke through the speaker.
"Um... he said he doesn't want to talk to me."
"Who is it?" Matt mumbled.
"He's just being dumb! Frey, you're his best friend in the whole world. He's all mopey without you."
"Then he can apologize for yelling at me and then I'll think about it."
"Frey-"
"Now if you don't mind, I'm trying to enjoy my alone time with my husband."
"Ew-"
Freya hung up, placing her phone back on the nightstand. Matt sighed, throwing her leg over his hip. He buried his head in her neck, his breathing falling into a steady pattern as he fell back asleep. Freya couldn't sleep though, she just wanted Luke to accept that she was happy, why was it so hard for him?
Luke had typed the message to his sister out at least 15 times, but he couldn't find the words to describe how he was feeling. Quinn and Jack, with the help of their parents, had talked some sense into him. He understood that he had the right to be upset with Freya, but he had taken it too far. Now, he just needed his apology to seem sincere and heartfelt.
"Just tell her exactly how you feel," Jack shrugged.
"Ew, you're making it sound like I'm confessing my feelings to a girl."
Jack rolled his eyes, "Shut up, Luke. Just text our fucking sister."
Hey, Freya. I know I shouldv'e done this sooner, but the way I reacted to the news of you and Matt was immature and unfair to you. You were already feeling so much stress and I just added to that. I have the right to be a little upset, but you're right... you don't have to tell me everything. I love you, Frey. Text me when you see this
When Freya saw that text, she couldn't wipe the smile from her face. Rolling over and pressing kisses all over Matthew's exposed skin.
"Hm," he groaned, "What's got you in such a good mood?"
"Luke apologized! Everyone is happy for us!"
"That's good. Now sleep. You look exhausted, babe."
"I can't sleep now! Everything is the way I always wanted it to be!"
"Mmm, yeah. That's awesome, Frey."
"Matty! This is the best!"
He laughed, watching sleepily as she straddled his waist. He placed his hands on her hips, running his thumbs over the smooth skin.
"I'm happy that you're happy, baby."
"I'm so happy! Almost as happy as when we got married," she smirked.
"Nothing can top that."
And with that Freya leaned forward and connected their lips. Morning breath or not this was the man she loved, and now she could share him with the world.

LOL HI I HAVE A THOUGHT AGAINNN HEHEHE
Cale and the gang with someone who's a mermaid? They're scared shitless because of the insanity their fellow merfolk are expressing towards creatures that haven't done them anything too big. They can be transmigrated or just simply too self aware of what kind of people they are going to face if they keep meddling with other creatures' affairs with no reasonable explanation.
I love mermaids lol 😞
It can be platonic or romantic. I LOVE HOW YOU WRITE 🔥🔥🔥
Out of Their Minds - LoTCF & Mermaid! Reader

Sigh
“This is what you get for working with shady people…”
You stare at the three mermaid corpses on top of a big rock. It was the middle of the night making the sight more eery. It makes you nauseous. Especially as you notice how one of them is armless.
However, you didn’t pity them.
“Serves you right to be honest.”
You whispered in the corpse’s ear as you sat on top of the boulder. Your mermaid tail swaying against a part of the rock that has no mermaid on it.
“How did you lose your arm though? Did you anger the Whale Tribe so much that they took your arm as a souvenir?”
Looking at the sea you wondered who killed them.
“Maybe it was that ruffian called Archie? But I heard rumours from the fishes that the Whale King will beat him to a pulp if he goes too far.”
Humming in disbelief, you continued talking to the corpse as though they were still alive.
“Hmm, but you guys crossed the line first so I guess doing this much to your bodies is nothing.”
You started thinking about what happened to the mermaid tribe as of late. Some shady organizations came and made a deal with them. You didn’t know much but you heard the organization called Arm was asking for a sea route.
“Wait, it’s kind of ironic, isn’t it? You’re working for something called Arm and you lost your arm when you died.”
With your index finger pointing out, you tried to poke the cheek of the armless mermaid. But alas you couldn’t do it. Too disgusted at their mummified looks.
“Eww, you all look so gross. Why am I even sitting on top of you all? I’m gonna go back now before that weirdo magic spearman who keeps calling himself my hyung looks for me.”
Grimacing at the thought of the guy who insisted you’re his family now, you tried to get off the boulder you were sitting on. You may be an orphan, but you aren’t desperate to acquire new family members.
Shaaaa
As you try to climb down, you hear a soft splashing sound from behind. It sounds like water being manifested out of thin air.
Wait… Water out of thin air?
That could only mean the Whale Tribe. Not just ordinary ones, but one of the Shickler’s children.
Panicking, you tried to turn around while climbing down. Which only resulted in you falling off the boulder and landing hard on your butt.
“Wait wait wait! Is that a sword? Oh my god, it’s Paseton. Wait no should I call you his highness Paseton?”
Teary eyes and mouth spouting a bunch of nonsense because of panic made the half-blood whale stop in his tracks. Usually, when he encounters a mermaid they would spare no time attacking him.
“Are you about to discard those bodies in the water?”
“What? No way! If I did that those weird people would find me sooner.”
“Weird… People?”
Paseton lowered his sword and you relaxed a little. You wiped your tears with the back of your hand before addressing the whale’s confusion.
“Yeah! You should know about it already. I heard the turtles talking about how the mermaids are haunting you because you found out they were working with humans! Oh, but you don’t seem hurt, good for you!”
You gave him a thumbs-up as if you weren’t on the verge of crying because you fell earlier.
The half-blood whale finds you weird. It looks like you have no intentions of hurting him. In fact, it looks like you’re supporting him?
“...You’re that rumoured eccentric mermaid. Son of the previous mermaid leader.”
“No need to make it sound good. I know the rumours actually call me crazy and not eccentric. But yes that’s me, the crazy orphan whose parents got assassinated by mermaids. They're the real lunatics if you ask me.”
Paseton hesitantly shook the hand you offered.
“But why are you here? I heard you’ve gone missing and the mermaid tribe are worried sick looking everywhere for you?”
“You’re one to talk, I heard your sister is going crazy looking for you too.”
Letting go of his hand, you began to explain what happened.
“You already know about it but the merpeople are getting help from above ground. That was also why they assassinated my mother, the previous mermaid leader. She wanted to straighten out the relationship between our tribe and yours. She also initially refused the offer that the humans made. Look where that got her.“
Because of that you became wanted by the merpeople too. They framed it as looking for the lost heir but what they really want is to capture you to exploit your abilities.
As thanks for not killing you, you explained your special abilities to Paseton. Your poison is three times stronger than normal mermaids. You also possess the ability to heal any poison that comes from water and it’s creatures in it. Another special ability of yours is transforming into a fish. A secret ability that only the direct blood of the true mermaid leader can possess.
“My poison is strong enough to do this.”
Stretching your arms, you demonstrated your poison to Paseton by letting it out on the mermaid beside you. This rendered the already armless mermaid tailless.
“The sight is disgusting each time. Not pretty at all.”
You gag as you watch the mermaid’s tail turn into green goo before it sizzles, leaving no trace behind.
“So what do you think? I was planning on leaving these bodies but I can get rid of them for you. In exchange, you’ll let me be on my merry way.”
Paseton nodded and you took that as a cue to start disintegrating the corpses with your poison.
“Where do plan to go now?”
“Honestly? I don’t know. The mermaids have gone crazy, I’m too scared to even look at them. Both the whales and the whale tribe won’t leave me alone if they see me because they’ll think I’m one of those lunatics. Maybe I’ll forever transform into a fish and create a fantasy nation and call it Lemuria or something.”
You said it in a joking manner but Paseton can see the fear in your eyes as you talk about the merpeople. At that moment the whale tribe prince pitied you. You have essentially become an outsider with nowhere to run to.
He was about to make an offer when a water whip struck beside you.
“See? That’s what I’m talking about, now a water whip is out to kill me. Wait waterwhip? Witira?!”
You desperately looked at the man in front of you.
“Hey, I helped you get rid of the bodies right? You said you’ll let me go right? So please explain to your sister I didn’t do anything.”
“What are you doing to my brother?!”
Witira’s angry voice from behind made you look at his brother more desperately. Paseton nodded as he walked towards his sister.
“Noona stop, he doesn’t mean any harm. We were just having a chat.”
“With a mermaid?”
Paseton begins explaining what happened to Witira. From how he gets help from a noble to you helping him get rid of the mermaids. He also explained how you’re on the run from the mermaids and the people working with them.
As Paeston speaks you tried to use their distracted state as an opportunity to go back to the sea.
Keyword being “try”.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
You feel the humpback whale half-blood scoop your fish form from the shore.
“A betta fish huh? You’re quite pretty.”
Good thing you’re a fish so the siblings wouldn’t be able to see you blush. Your fins did shine a little brighter though. Light blue with a red and white undertone that makes you look purple glistened under the moonlight.
But there’s no way they’ll know that’s how you show being flustered in fish form so it’s good.
“What do you want with me? I already did my end of the deal~”
You whined and flopped around Paseton’s hands, throwing a tantrum. The man only chuckled while his sister watched in amusement.
“Yes, yes. But I want to make another deal.”
That made you stop flailing around.
“Turn back first. The water in my hands is running out, you already splashed most of it out.”
Obeying, you transformed back into your mermaid form. You expected Paseton to put you down then. However, he didn’t and decided to carry your bridal style instead.
He may be the weakest of the whale tribe but his still stronger than most humans.
“So what do you want?”
You crossed your arms, pouting because you lost your chance to make a getaway.
“Well, I was thinking of taking you back with us. You have nowhere to go right? You can just live with us.”
Both you and Witira looked at him quizzically.
“What’s in it for you?”
“We’ll use your abilities when fighting the mermaids. You also have an information network that consists of sea creatures right? We’ll use that too.”
“Those are my friends, not a measly information network thank you very much. Also, didn’t you hear what I said earlier? I’m scared of mermaids now. I can’t even look at them.”
“Who says you have to look at them?”
You questioned what Paseton was saying. Meanwhile, Witira observes his brother. She agrees with his plan. After hearing what happened to you and your abilities, she knows you’ll be a useful card.
However, she knows her brother. And she knows that the way he's looking at you means more than what his entailing. He also seems confident that he’ll get you to go home with them before the sun rises.
Hmm, maybe that’s her fault for spoiling him too much…
“You don’t have to face them yourself. You don’t even have to leave the Whale Tribe village if you want. You’ll just have to use your abilities from far away and help us defeat the mermaid tribe.”
“...”
You mulled about it for a few seconds. It’s not like you have anything else to lose as you already lost everything. It is also true that you have nowhere to go. Your sea creature friends can only hide you for so long before you have to run away again. It also doesn’t seem like the humpback whale is lying.
Plus Paseton is pretty cute.
Wait what?
“So I don’t have to face them?”
“No.”
“Will I have my own house?”
“Hmm, not yet but I have a house that’s separate from our family residence. You can live there with me”
“Not bad… You promise I won’t meet them right? Including those crazy people that keep calling themself my new family.”
“I promise.”
“Can you buy me a large fish tank that’s installed in my house?”
“Making demands already? I’ll have a custom-made fish tank and pool, just for you.”
“Okay, deal!”
You raised your arms in celebration, already thinking just how beneficial this whole ordeal was for you. You’ll just have to provide them with your assistance that’s being used for the greater good and you’ll be spoiled as a compensation? Sweet.
Witira only shook her head at your conversation. She could already tell she had a lot to explain to her father once the three of you go home.
Oh well, as long as her brother is happy.

The Sonic Movie 3 trailer came out and it is awesome!
I know it came out a week or so ago and I might be late into talking about it but rest assured I watched it 30 minutes after it came out.
I decided to start talking about it now because I want to put in my two cents about a certain topic.
At some point in the trailer we get this image of Tom:
He’s screaming “Sonic!!” and then it immediately flashes to this image of Shadow:
There is also this interaction with Sonic and Shadow:
“What did you do?”
“What I had to.”
First of all, f🤬cking aura Shadow, holy sh💩t. That “what I had to” sent shivers to me timbers.
Second of all, why I’m making this post:
This has led people to believe that Shadow might harm Tom in some way or even killing him.
And I don’t think that is true.
Do I think that they might tussle around? Yeah. Do I think Shadow will straight up assassinate him? Hell no!
CONTINUE UNDER THE CUT ⬇️
Now, I have seen people believe it and draw it but more as like a “this is a cool alternative but I don’t actually think it would happen”, but then there are others who genuinely believe that Shadow is going to kill Tom.
While there is nothing wrong with believing that, it raises a problem for Shadow’s overall character.
We all know Shadow is just misunderstood. Especially from Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails. Keep in mind that they are working with the very people that killed Maria—a little girl, Shadow’s best friend, and they have no idea 😀
I feel like if Sonic finds out about it, then there will definitely be conversations yet to happen, and not very friendly ones.
I kinda think this might be an image of Sonic looking around the Ark. Maybe this is when he finds out? However, that is not something I can really prove:
One thing I will say: even though if we were in Shadow’s position and we might try to kill humanity too, I think we should all acknowledge that even though we can understand him it doesn’t mean we should agree with the path he has walked down on.
Anyway, Shadow = misunderstood. Got it. That is all a story for another time, I’m still here for something else.
I think we can all agree that Shadow has been through a lot, and I think some of the games do him justice for the way he makes up for his actions; finding out who is he is and honoring Maria’s wish, sacrificing himself and falling down to earth, going against Black Doom’s wishes, fighting Memphis, saving Sonic (multiple times), him and Team Dark, the Archie comics, and more.
We’re gonna ignore the Boom!Shadow for this one boys. He’s irrelevant. (lol)
While Shadow and Sonic aren’t friends or enemies, they’re by each others side to do the right thing. All Shadow wanted to do was the right thing and at the time he believed it was killing humanity.
I think what I’m trying to say is that Shadow has done some villainy sh💩t under the influence of what people showed him back to the accident of the Ark. However, he is not a bad guy and he doesn’t deserve to be the bad guy.
If they do this, if Shadow kills Tom, he will be an irredeemable monster to Sonic and even to me, and Shadow doesn’t deserve that treatment.
I don’t want to look at Movie!Shadow knowing that he killed an amazing character and the father to Sonic.
I also want to say, that when Sonic is talking to Shadow and asks him what he did, he sounds mad but he doesn’t sound mad enough to the point of Tom’s death kind of mad. Sonic would be f🤬cking furious. He would fr say “screw the power of friendship I’m about to END this B🐶TCH”.
I can’t say for certain that Tom isn’t going to die, but I really don’t think and want to believe that Shadow is going to be the one to kill Tom.
Like I said before, it’s tragic for what happened to him but we shouldn’t justify the path he’s walking on. Killing Tom is no excuse either.
I just don’t want to be disappointed. I have been looking forward for this movie for too long. I really just want Shadow to be the sweet little anti-hero he truly is.
While I’m here, I wanna circle back around to Tom screaming Sonic’s name. First of all, Tom is in a G.U.N uniform. Either he’s going in disguise or maybe the commander guy whose name I don’t care to remember gave him a position in the G.U.N forces.
In the first Sonic Movie, Maddie did say that there has been a Wachowski serving and protecting for 50 years. The same amount of time Shadow was in a coma. Maybe the commander recognizes Tom’s last name and offers him a position.
Maybe Sonic and co. find out about what they did to Maria and the Ark, and when confronting G.U.N, G.U.N decides to turn on them. Maybe that’s why Tom was screaming Sonic’s name, because he was about to get hurt. Remember, even though Sonic saved the world in the 1st movie, in the 2nd movie G.U.N still believed they would be a threat. Maybe G.U.N is using them in hopes they won’t find out about what happened 50 years ago. They’d be perfect against Shadow, they’re the same species! (Kinda…)
If G.U.N can’t defeat Shadow, maybe another powerful being can.
Anyway, those were my two cents.
Don’t take this post too personally please, if you wanna believe Shadow kills Tom, then by all means go off! I just wanted to show my perspective of things and how I see Shadow as a person.
Remember, opinions are opinions and we shouldn’t devalue anyone’s just because we don’t agree.
Take care! 🫶🏻

Celta, I have a preposterous theory about the whole meghnancy fiasco and I want to share it with you to see what's your opinion on it.
I think BP did confront Rachel and her husband about the surrogacy and probably was told they can keep the kid, he's still a beloved family member but he will not be receiving any titles. This angered the two idiots and they started the blackmailing using "racism, first mixed race kid in the BRF, security, bla bla bla.." When BP couldn't control them mostly thanks to Harold's stupidity who must've been defending his darling wife like mad, they just let them do whatever the hell they want to so those two were happily acting up and started the smear campaign against the BRF. Of course their jealousy towards the Waleses expanded a million times more during this time because Waleses are everything that's right with the world and these two are the most despicable things in earth. They were angry because they were told no.
HMTQ's Christmas speech with the photo of heirs was the last straw because they felt that she was saying the sprog isn't specifically acknowledged by her so they decided to go all out and destroy the family that gave them everything they wanted but these two are just the bottomless pit that can never be satisfied. They really thought the BRF wouldn't dare to make the surrogacy public and have always used Harold's "mental issues + suicidal blackmails" to stop them from doing so hence why The Palace is mum till today about their disgusting act.
Remember when Camilla rubbed her tummy mockingly while chatting to Catherine? Pretty sure they all have watched the popping sound of her tummy in Mayhew and they disappearing bump in Birkenhead. The BRF isn't stupid, they can't proceed further because of the unaliving blackmails Harold had been successfully using on them.
What do you think of this?
Hi Nonny,
I think that the top members of the BRF, at least, are aware of the issues around the births of the Sussex children. I don't know whether they would have confronted the Sussexes about this or simply kept quiet and given them enough rope to hand themselves. Over the passage of time more and more people have come to believe that those children either don't exist or where a product of surrogacy, so it certainly would be easier to have the public support any evidence of that today than it would have been when Archie was born, for example.
I also think that Meghan would have taken offense at the photo of the heirs simply because she and her husband were not in it, no matter what circumstance had preceded it.
After that. it is anyone's guess as to what happened. What you have said links together and makes sense, so it is as possible as any other theory and more possible than the ones that don't make sense.
I really want the truth about the Meghnancies and the Sussex kids to come out. I am getting very tired of waiting for it to be revealed and I think by the time it does come out I simply will not care any longer, which may be what King Charles wants anyway.

Hey, I saw that your requests are open so I wanted to ask how Maxie, Archie, Cyrus and maybe some other characters of your choice would be like as dads, if you want to write about that ^^;
anon don't let me make more pokemen dilfs.
uhhh took this as a /reader thing since that's how my blog is.
cw: afab reader, light mentions of pregnancy and birth, mostly focused on villains being dads, mentions of termination for a second in cyrus's part,
characters: Maxie, Archie, Cyrus, Volo
☀️Maxie🌋
🪨 When you first told the Magma Leader the news, he had nearly fainted. He was certain he had been careful, but his mind instantly drew a few times such a thing could have occurred. Maxie actually needs to be supported by how limp his limbs go. Truly, he did not know how to handle the idea he was going to be a father. For some reason, his brain recalled the child who had opposed his team as he debated his next move. Being a dad did not sound awful to him. He just was completely unsure as to what to do.
🪨 Somehow, he managed to get over his immediate hesitations and considered the positives. The redhead was not getting any younger, after all. He had felt a strange uncle-like care for the child who had stopped him. It was not so bad having a child to look out for, he thought. Plus, he had beaten Archie in something again. He soon found himself pouring countless hours into guides and information related to parenthood and fatherhood. Being well-informed was the first step he felt.
🪨 He had his ups and downs throughout the pregnancy before finally having a full-on breakdown during labour. His practised stern expression gone with his sanity. They had to give him a bag for his frantic breathing, and he had to be removed from the room. He would later apologise for his behaviour, but it was all too surreal for him. But, in the end, he stares in wonder at the newborn. The small boy's weight in his arms was so light, yet so heavy. Tufts of red hair decorated his head as Maxie took in another shaky breath.
🪨 It was a struggle actually adjusting to parenthood. Reading was one thing, a screaming baby at one in the morning was another. Still, he powered through it all. There was something enchanting to watch as the baby grew more and more aware. His son seemed to grow an affinity for grabbing at his hair or trying to take his glasses while making interesting coos and gurgles at him. He was not sure just what kind of person they would grow into, but he was determined to help try to raise them into a person who would be mindful of the environment and kind.
🪨 As they grew, Maxie found himself seeing too much of himself in his son. They could be just as stubborn and unyielding as he was, while being oddly fascinated with geology as he was. He even had to stop his son from eating dirt at one point, which stirred unfortunate youthful memories out of the Magma Leader. Despite how they would butt heads, Maxie felt strangely in tune with him. He loved letting his son read his reports and explaining the different meanings held within.
🪨 He felt especially cocky when he introduced Archie to his boy, smirking at how the pirate seemingly was lost as to how the redhead actually reproduced. Before he could rub his life achievement in his face, Archie knelt down and ruffled the boy's head with a friendly grin. He bit his tongue. The Aqua Leader congratulated his counterpart genuinely and told the boy to keep an eye out for his old man. All Maxie could do was grumble in return.
🪨 He tries to be fair, but he knows boundaries are important and healthy for children. The effects of being too permissive with children often led to the creation of troublesome people, after all. Though he does not want his son to feel rejected and like Maxie does not care for him, he makes sure to have actual discussions with his son about why and how with things. He does feel like his child has a good understanding of these things in the end but feels like he accidentally imposed many of his mannerisms onto his son.
🪨 Team Magma ends up talking about the so-named mini Maxie frequently. The obvious resemblance between their leader and his son is just so fascinating. Even Courtney wishes to coo over an almost perfect clone of her leader. Tabitha just nervously laughs whenever the boy follows his dad in to watch the Magma scientists work. He is very well accepted, no matter his age. Grunts even nervously act as properly as they do when their leader strolls in.
🪨 Overall, Maxie ends up as a slightly overbearing parent who tries to understand his kid and have them understand him back. He goes from being nervous about parenthood to being deeply grateful for the change. His son brought an odd new purpose into his life after everything that had happened with Groudon. He truly enjoys every moment spent with his family.
🌧Archie🌊
💧 When you told Archie about the news, he scooped you up like you weighed nothing and spun you around excitedly. The Aqua Leader had been feeling like something was missing from his life, and he feels like you just answered it. There is no hesitation or doubt from the man — No, this must be his destiny. The little scamp that had been his odd rival while he tried to awaken Kyogre made him realise how nice being a dad could be. He instantly begins to ramble off assorted ideas and plans while you can only stare at him.
💧 Honestly, he probably had been unconsciously trying for a child. Archie thought back on his own youth with both happy and confused feelings. Having a kid could be really difficult, he realised. Shelly came in to save him by gifting him a bunch of parenting books and reminding him that it was a genuinely serious change in his life. He suddenly felt more grounded, for lack of a better word, in his thoughts. Plus, he had beaten Maxie in something! Not that he really thought his rival wanted a kid, though.
💧 He does simply everything for you during your pregnancy. Archie proves just how dedicated he can be to a goal with his attentiveness to you. Even during the birth, he stood at your side with a bright grin and endless support. Though, internally, he would admit he was panicking just a bit. This was still a dangerous process, even if he treated the doctors and whatever else. Though, when everything calmed down and a small infant was laid in your arms, his heart just felt full. A little girl was now the newest and most important member of his crew.
💧 His adjustment to life with a baby is something amazing. It seemed he really took all the advice in those books to heart, as he just accepted his sleep schedule was going to be ruined until the poor girl found a schedule. Archie did not mind, simply happy to see more and more of the little thing. He even found a good nickname for her when she held a small death grip on his beard. His little Clamperl. She was quite fond of laughing and giggling, too, which made his heart feel even warmer. However, sadly, everyone around him stuck down him wanting to try infant swimming classes.
💧 As she grew, Archie was a bit amazed about how she seemed to be just like him. A strong affinity for water and loving to just be around people. Both of them could just spend all day on the beach and in the water playing around, making Archie think back to his own youth. He had loved the ocean then as much as he loved it now and is glad to pass his love on to his daughter. The Aqua Leader adored teaching her all about marine life and the many creatures that lurked in the waiting waves. She seemed to absorb the information like a sponge.
💧 He felt smug when Maxie saw him and his daughter in Slateport. The redhead stood stunned at the little girl holding his rival's hand tightly. The Magma Leader approached with careful steps. The girl just beamed up at him. Maxie actually smiled back at her. He shot a glance at Archie. He carefully listened to the little girl excitedly telling him about the Chinchou she saw. The Aqua Leader's feelings changed. Maxie almost seemed proud of him. Before Maxie departed, he congratulated Archie and told the girl to keep her dad in line. She just grinned up at him.
💧 He is a bit too lenient with his daughter, he knows. The girl simply deserves everything he feels, and he struggles to tell her no. Of course, he does know the importance of setting up boundaries for kids so they do not get all out of control. Though, he absolutely struggles with punishments, sadly. His softness, thankfully, is not taken advantage of because his daughter is just as oddly good-natured as he is.
💧 His team is just eager to have his daughter around. She loves playing around with the grunts, even when it ends with her horribly beating them in a pokemon battle. Everyone just sees her like another Archie, almost. She is just less likely to give out orders. Shelly simply adores the girl and loves dressing her up or just hanging out with her while Archie is too busy to be with her. Matt, on the other hand, is overly protective over her. The poor guy is terrified that his bro's daughter is in danger because of how small she is. Granted, she is very safe because the entirety of Team Aqua would hunt whoever hurt her down.
💧 In the end, he is quite excited to be a father and eager to do everything he possibly can for his child. He struggles a bit when it comes to pushing back on her and is probably too permissive for it to be good, but his example of bring redeeming himself from his past actions and genuinely caring for pokemon and the sea sets a good example for her. She quickly adopts many of his interests in protecting the environment, and he feels certain that his change of heart after Kyogre was all for good with that.
🌌Cyrus🛰
☄️ When you told Cyrus of the news, he froze. His entire world seemingly paused, and the only thing he could hear was the sound of his heart racing. Father… Him? No, he could not. What a terrifying thought. His own childhood creeping up his back as he debated how to most kindly ask for a possible termination. Your immediate refusal shook him even more. Losing you was not something that he believed he could bear in this world, so sickeningly consumed by spirit. Could you not just wait for his perfect world to start a family?
☄️ He relents after his initial panic. Your joy is apparent with how you speak to the unborn child and loving place a hand over where they should be. Was twenty-seven an appropriate age to start a family? He supposed there was little time to consider. Immediately, he found himself drowning in guides upon guides upon books and informational videos until he felt somewhat confident in what being a parent entailed. He absolutely dreaded every coming minute of it, but he refused to make that apparent to his future child. Cyrus would not dare even imitate his parents.
☄️ Amazingly, he managed to stay by your side during the stages of labour. While he almost constantly wanted to leave the room, horrified but what he could only blame on spirit, he remained and forced his feelings down to support you and advocate when you were unable to. You seemed grateful for his unfaltering support in the end, smiling as you held the infant girl in your arms. Cyrus felt amazed by her very existence. Soft blue tufts were on her head, while her face seemed frozen in a familiar expression. You called her a mini Cyrus. He could only feel awestruck.
☄️ He struggled immensely in the shift after bringing her home. Thankfully, it was less due to the constant awakenings (as his insomnia made that easy enough to deal with) but more so how she simply existed in his space. Her cries broke his heart, making him fear he was already falling into the ways of his parents. Yet, he found that she was straightforward to comfort, simply craving to be held and softly spoken to. Her eyes, the same colour as his, adoringly stared up at him, and he suddenly felt warm inside.
☄ Her growing up was both a relief and torment to him. She proved herself just as reclusive as he could be and not interested in any other kids for the most part. Cyrus felt strange seeing his daughter hidden in her room and burying herself in whatever hobby she had decided to indulge in. It was like staring into a mirror that reflected one's younger days. He found himself being someone she could talk to about her hobbies, happy to listen at any time. Cyrus felt even more stunned whenever she followed him to his office and watched how he worked on his machines. It slowly turned into him explaining everything to her and her wishing to help him.
☄️ He flinched at how Cynthia caught him out at the Veilstone department store with his daughter one day. The champion stared in silence at them for a moment before falling into her unusual polite grin and waving at the small girl. Cyrus knew that the blonde would not do anything to her yet still felt strangely nervous about how she had gazed at him specifically. The babbled quietly to Cynthia about her interests, and she could only smile more at the girl. When the woman finally left, her final glance back at him spoke too many words. “You accepted this world, didn't you?” Had he? Cyrus forced those thoughts away.
☄️ He, truthfully, is quite soft as a parent. What he has been through has made him terrified of ever inflicting such pain onto a child. Cyrus is much too weak when it comes to his daughter and folds into himself for what she asks for. He strangely finds her already perfect. In fact, he dared to even say her spirit was somehow complete. He does make sure she understands social norms and boundaries, still, but she seems to come to understand on her own all the same. The only downside is that he struggles to be affectionate with her, only allowing himself the rare hug and mostly relying on petting her head.
☄️ Team Galactic is oddly obsessed with their boss's mysterious child. How she just showed up one day after Cyrus took an unexpected few weeks off. They all found themselves engaged in watching how she mimicked her father unknowingly. Mars and Jupiter love playing with the little girl, seeing a need for a more feminine touch in her life and finding her fun to dress up. While Saturn seemingly finds himself on babysitting duty whenever Cyrus gets busy. He secretly enjoys these moments and shows her games on his computer. The grunts are constantly getting jumpscared by her accidental glare.
☄️ Overall, he struggles quite a bit with his own childhood, but desperately does not want his beloved child to ever go through what he had. Cyrus leans probably strict in some ways, yet extremely permissive and passive in other ways. At first, the idea of parenthood nearly makes him ill, but he somehow moves past it into deeply enjoying the connection he has with his daughter. While he still has not accepted this painfully incomplete world, he feels his daughter is leading him to another possible answer to his inquiries and wishes to see what she thinks when she is at an age to understand. Perhaps he would even dare let her make the new world herself.
💫Volo📜
⭐️ When you told him the news, he sincerely debated fleeing and hiding again. Being a parent was a terrifying concept to him. He simply was not someone who had much interest in establishing a family line. After all, he had made very obvious his intentions to continue pursuing Hisui's myths to one day finish his goals. While he may have relented to whatever kind of relationship this was, he was not sure a child was something he needed. Then you mentioned that his child would come from one chosen by Arceus, and he suddenly gave in.
⭐️ He supposes that a child from both his blood of the ancient Sinnoh people and yours from that of one chosen by Arceus sounded too good. Besides, he had begun to wonder what should happen if he failed in his endeavours. A descendant could carry on where he left off, even possibly creating the world he so desired and bringing him back should he die. His acceptance is quiet and subtle. He finds himself listening to men and women about their experiences of being parents as he wanders around Hisui. Bravely, he even questions Cogita about what is entailed, intriguing her.
⭐️ He could not be at your side for any process of the delivery since he was very much wanted for his crimes in Jubilife, but he was somewhat doting during the pregnancy. He attempted to get whatever you requested, though he felt like he was going a bit mad when you sent him out hunting for seemingly endless leeks out in the wilds. Volo was mostly following Cogita's instructions here. It was about a week after the birth when you finally managed to sneak out of the village with the infant for him to finally greet the child. He could only stare at the sleeping face of his daughter in mild bewilderment. Soft golden tufts were across her head as she nuzzled into his warmth. His heart felt oddly heavy.
⭐️ When you finally escaped back to his home, he felt distressed by how needy the child was. Crying nearly relentlessly and needing attention more than he expected, yet before he could complain, he realised how he felt about those thoughts. Quickly, he shut them down and took to intently caring for the child. How could he have even thought such a thing about his child? He felt ill. Her confused coos and giggles at lease forced the pain out of his heart. She always seemed so entranced with his hair and desperately tried to grab it. Her grey eyes held pure adoration as she turned her head to find him whenever he was not holding her.
⭐️ As she grew, he became worried. His own youth was extremely difficult and lonely. The only person he felt he could turn to was rarely around, so he always found himself alone and ruminating on his complicated feelings. It all seemed pointless with how easily she spoke with other people. A bit like him, he supposed. Her intrigue with his investigations of ruins and myths drew her in, too. The girl listening to her father go on and on about history and stories of myths. Volo felt oddly eager. It seemed his legacy would inherit his interests. She began joining him to look over ruins and learn the culture of the ancient Sinnoh people.
⭐️ Cogita seemed smitten with his daughter, he had noticed. The older woman had often been there for him in his youth, and now it appeared her intentions remained the same for the girl. If his partner was busy while he was, too, he found her more than willing to babysit. She shared just as many myths to the girl as he had. The girl seemed utterly fascinated with everything, just as he had been. Though, he could feel the slight glare Cogita would give him when he listened in. It seemed she was more than aware of his darker plans.
⭐️ Volo is not really sure how to parent. He tries to be supportive towards his daughter, but struggles to understand if what he is doing is right or wrong. His parents were not exactly around him enough to help him even now by an example. He almost ends up treating her like a pokemon. Firm boundaries and obvious things you do and do not do. She has many moments of frustration towards the blond, which he entirely understands. Though, he does find himself overly protective of her. He feels she is in danger as the hero of Hisui's child alongside being his own, not mentioning the general danger of Hisui alone.
⭐️ From what he hears, the Galaxy Team simply adores her. Laventon cannot stop himself from going on and on about pokemon behaviours to the girl, and even bravely offering her another one of the pokemon he brought from his home region. Cyllene seems to fret over her wellbeing whenever you take her out of the village to his home, claiming she is too young to explore the harsh wilderness even while being monitored. Even Kamado has a strange soft spot for the kid, probably trying to make up for what he did to you. Volo can only sigh at all that.
⭐️ Ultimately, he has many shortcomings as a parent. It is a difficult change for him, but he forces himself to be at least more supportive and caring than his own parents were towards him. He honestly can be a little too harsh with his words, but somehow, his daughter seems to get he is trying his best. Her love for history and mythology makes him feel confident she will pick up where he left off should anything ever happen to him. After all, he plans to take her to the Temple of Sinnoh and explain to her his ultimate goals. She is already being trained in battling as a wielder by him. But, somehow, he wonders if she really will. The look in her eyes is much like his own yet different.

Archie proposing to Maxie! 🥰
Oooooo yes!! That sounds adorable! Here you go, friend! <3
It was unexpected of Archie to suddenly tell him that they were going on a vacation to Alola.
“But.. how come?” The redhead questioned. “We don’t usually plan a trip until summer.”
It was October.
Archie tried to ease his suspicions. “Babe, it’s our 5th anniversary! Don’t ye remember?”
“Oh god- of course!” He smacked his head in frustration. “Please forgive me. I’ve been working so much lately and I-“
He shut Maxie up with a kiss.
“Mmm~”
“Mmmhmhmhm~”
Maxie then broke the kiss for a moment and looked at his boyfriend. “But, we have a little girl with us now. If you were planning a dinner or something-“
“Tabitha, Matt, Courtney, and Shelly are coming with us. It’s their anniversaries too, y’know. They can watch Sierra while we have a night to ourselves.”
“I’m acting like our daughter is a burden… trust me, she’s far from it. I hope you understand that.”
Archie guffawed. “Oh Max, c’mon now. I know ye better than that. I know ye love our little girl. But I need someone to watch her while I take ye out to dinner one night.”
“Oh, Archie~ You really don’t need-“
“Ah Ah! Yes I do, snookums. *kiss* It’s all for ye, baby. For us.”
Maxie smiles and cups Archie’s face in his hands. “I love you.”
“I love ye too, Max. I know all of us are gonna have a great time.”
Around 2 months later, The 7 of them boarded onto a ship to sail for the Alola region. It took around 2 days for them to get there, so once they did, they booked a big hotel room on Poni island for all of them.
“Wow, this place looks amazing!” Matt exclaimed, his arm around Tabitha’s shoulder. “I hope we get a room aaaaall to ourselves~” He chuckles, smirking seductively at his husband.
“For god’s sake, Matt.” Tabitha blushes, looking away. “We have a child here!” He giggles when Matt kisses his cheek.
“Yeah, all of us have a room.” Archie explains, picking his daughter up. “And our little emerald will sleep with us!”
“Papa! Papa! You said you would teach me how to swim, right?”
He smiles and nuzzles her face with his beard, making her giggle. “Of course I will, me little scamp! Yer uncle Matt and yer auntie Shelly will too! Right, guys?”
“Of course we will.” Shelly smiles, motioning Archie to hand Sierra over to her. “I’ll teach you to swim like a pretty mermaid, how would you like that?”
“Uh huh! You really will, auntie?”
“Awww, you know I will, kiddo!” Then smirks at her wife. “And your auntie Courtney will too, right babe?”
She went wide eyed, Shelly knows good and well she doesn’t like to swim. “Umm-“ She cut herself off, looking at her goddaughter’s eyes plead to her. “Of c-course! Of course, sweetheart.” She smiles, petting Sierra’s head.
Shelly handed her back to her dads, and they split into their rooms. Not much later, they all had dinner together.
“Now, Sierra. Your papa and I are going to dinner by ourselves tomorrow night.” Maxie told her. “Your aunts and uncles are going to be watching you while we’re out.”
“But daddy… why can’t I go with you and papa?” She asked.
Tabitha took the conversation over. “Your daddies have some adult things that they need to take care of, sweetie. But don’t worry, the four of us will be with you until they get back.”
She smiled. “Okay.” She turned back to her daddies. “Please don’t have too much fun without me.”
“Oh, never.” Maxie chuckled, kissing her forehead.
The next evening, Archie and Maxie left together and headed towards a particularly fancy restaurant on another island in Alola.
“I can tell that you’ve been keeping something from me~” Maxie teases, watching Archie’s face redden. “What’s with all the fancy trips and expensive restaurants, dear? It’s only our 5th anniversary.”
“Well…” He muttered sheepishly. “You’ll see soon, baby. I promise. I want to take you somewhere special after dinner.”
“Okay, I’m looking forward to it~”
Once they were finished with dinner, Archie took Maxie towards a big beach nearby the restaurant.
“Beautiful sight, isn’t it?” Archie asked.
“Oh yes. He is.” Maxie said back, watching Archie’s face and ears turn red. “It’s beautiful.”
“So are ye, Max. Listen.. we’ve been dating for 5 years now, and… there’s something I really wanna ask ye.”
His eyes went wide, knowing what was about to happen next. “Arch-“
He knelt down on one knee, and he held a small, black box in his hands. “Max… yer the one and only man in my life that has made me the happiest I could ever feel.. and I wanna spend the rest of my life with ye..”
He covered his mouth, tears dotting the corners of his eyes. “A-Archie..”
“Maxie Matsubasa… love of my life, will ye make me the happiest man on earth? Will ye marry me?” He asked, looking up at his lover with a gleam in his eyes.
The other man couldn’t hold in his tears anymore. He took his glasses off and slowly nods his head. “Yes! Y-yes! Yehehehes!” He cried out, then being scooped up into Archie’s arms after having the engagement ring put on his finger. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you!”
“I love ye, baby.. forever and always.” Archie smiles, holding him close as he cried. “No tears, Max.. only love and happiness~”
“I-I’m just s-so happy- *sob* I didn’t know y-you were going to do this! I.. I simply don’t deserve you.”
Archie grins and kisses his cheek. “Oh stop that~ Of course ye do. *kiss* I love ye, Maxie.” His kisses trail down to the base of his neck.
“Aha-! *snort* Archie-! That tickles! Wahahahait-! Hehehehehehehe!” He giggles as the kisses continued. “Stohohohohop ihihihihihihihihit! *snort* my neck ihihihis ticklish!”
“Mmmm~ if I get to hear those sweet giggles during this wonderful moment, then I can take any revenge ye give me. *kiss*” His hands get clingy and wrap around his torso.
He let out a big snort. “AHAH! Archie plehehehease! Thehehehe moment’s behehehing ruhuhuined!”
“Nah~ it’s not, love. I love hearing ye laugh~ *kiss* but not as much as I love ye.”
“Cheeheheheeheesy bahastard~” Maxie giggles, trying to squirm out of the ticklish grip.
“Oh, that’s it!” Archie clung to him and picked him up, bridal style. “Now yer gonna get it!” He practically smothered his face and neck in kisses.
“Hehehehehehey! Ahahah- put mehehehe down! Ahahahahrchie-! Stop- hahah- thahat tihihihickles!”
“Nope. *kiss* Gotta practice for our wedding day, honey. I’m gonna spoil ye rotten~ *kiss kiss* because ye deserve every moment of attention and lovin’s I give ye~”
He practically carried him the entire way back to their hotel room. Everyone was shocked to see the redhead being carried in Archie’s arms.
“What in the world?” Shelly cackled.
Sierra smiles at them. “Papa is so strong!”
“Hehehehe- He won’t put me down!” The magma leader giggles as Archie nuzzles him with his beard. “Archie! Hehehehee- your beard!”
“Guess what, everyone? Max and I are getting married!” Archie announced, making everyone stand up from their seats.
“About time!” Matt guffawed, clapping his hands.
“About time is right!” Tabitha added. “You two have been together for 5 years! We were worried that one of you would never pop the big question!”
Courtney giggles. “So, who proposed?”
Maxie was too flustered to say anything, he still kept his hands over his face.
Archie cackles. “Awww, he’s flustered. *kiss* I did. And he said yes! Ain’t my man the cutest?”
“Archie PLEASE.” He tries to stop his giggling, but he can’t. He’s just too happy not to. He had NO clue that Archie was doing this.
Sierra ran up to them. “You guys are getting married? But papa, I thought you and daddy were already married!”
“Hehe, we sure acted like we were already married, didn’t we?” He smiles and looks down to her. “But it’s true, sweetheart. We are getting married. How would ye like to be the flower girl at the wedding?”
She gasps. “Really? I can?”
“Well, of course my little emerald!” He sets Maxie down and she gets up on his shoulders. “Yer our little girl, so we’d love to have ye be the flower girl.”
Maxie stood up on his feet and stood next to them, not able to get the happy grin off his face. “Archie, I love you.”
“Awww, I love ye too, babe.” Archie smiles, putting an arm around him.
Sierra soon got sleepy, leaning on Archie’s shoulder. They celebrated the engagement later that evening after putting Sierra to bed. There was plenty of wine and laughter.
“Seriously though, congrats on the engagement, you two.” Shelly laughed. “We’re all so happy for you.”
Everyone else agreed.
“Thanks, Shell.” Archie smiles, holding his red headed fiancé close. “I couldn’t be happier to be here with my Max.” *kiss.*
His face turns red with a blush. “Archie~ I couldn’t be happier either. I love you.”
“I love ye more.”
He reached up and kissed his cheek. “I love you, the most.”
Matt chuckled and coughed out “cheesy”, making everyone cackle, but not too hard, since their little girl was fast asleep.

Unforgettable
by @keirgreeneyes and @tiredmilkshake
Chapter 1
“Seriously, I can’t believe my luck. We go off, have these adventures, meet celebrities and then get to share it all with people through the podcast—and he makes the most amazing dinners after we’re all done!”
“This is Sherlock Holmes you’re talking about? The same Sherlock I introduced you to?”
“Yes, Mike. The very same. I mean, he doesn’t cook immediately. Usually he collapses for–oh, once it seemed like 24 hours, though he might have gotten up while I was sleeping at some point.”
“And you’re saying he cooks? That’s the bit that’s surprising to me. I mean, I thought he had a thing about pasta.”
“I mean, we do have pasta every so often. But like, he made this fantastic sauce with capers the other day.”
“That’s...surprising, yeah. Well, I guess maybe he’s changed a mite.”
“What’s that mean?”
“He didn’t used to, in uni, that’s all.”
“Well, everyone changes, don’t they?”
“I’m not sure Sherlock Holmes does.”
“Is that a crack about his autism?”
“No, no, I’m not criticizing him. Just, he’s unique and always has been.”
“Yeah, unique and pretty amazing, I’d say.”
“Agreed. You two are good for each other.”
“Some people might even say we have a rapport.”
“He really does seem happier now, actually. So, yeah, he does seem different.”
“Right. Well, Mariana just texted me that there’s a mess of chicken parmesan a certain unique detective and chef made that is waiting for me back at Baker Street, so I think I’ll say cheers and catch you later.”
“Have a good night, Watson, and tell Holmes hello for me.”
“Will do.”
Chapter 2
“Watson, what’s that smell?”
“Why are you asking me, mate? You’re the one with the sensitive honker. Shall I go back to the flat for Archie? I wonder if he’d be an excellent sniffer dog, you know, like those dogs that work for a living? I mean, he’s no German Shepherd, wouldn’t really be much good at roughing up the bad un’s. But he does like to give things a sniff or two. And a slobber. Yeah, well, I guess he might be good at a crime scene if we needed somebody all glommed up with snot and saliva.”
“Watson—that’s utter nonsense. Crime scene dogs require keen senses and are given intensive training. Archie’s much better at what he’s good at: giving someone’s leg a good time at the park.”
“Hey—he did that one time, and no one ever lets up—”
“As I was saying, something smells different, about your person. What is it?”
“Oh, well, we were talking about making that mushroom and camembert frittata, and I happened to see a nice thing of camembert at a shop and so I thought I’d just pick it up and..”
“Well, its scent is so strong I think that even Archie would be distracted by it if he was here, much less a genuine detection dog.”
“What am I supposed to do with it, then?”
“I don’t know, but please take it out of here. Perhaps Inspector Lestrade can put it in her car.”
“Oh, no, Holmes, you’re not stinking up my squad car with that smelly old cheese.”
“Right, well, if no one wants me and my smelly old, delicious cheese around, I’ll just take us outside and let you do your detecting on your own.”
“What’s that, Watson? Wait, wait, there’s something here we’ve been missing…”
“So, do you want me to go, or should I linger here with my great smelliness messing up your investigation?”
“Wait–Stop!! Fire, fire!!”
(Screams break out, there is the sound of gunfire and breaking glass.)
Chapter 3
“Sherlock, it’s alright, mate, we caught him.”
“Yes, well, after he’d wounded two police constables, destroyed significant amounts of evidence with that fire, and all this from a hidden place within the very crime scene that we had been investigating. And we caught him all thanks to you, by the way. Timely use of that disgustingly reeking round of cheese you had on hand to distract him while I tackled him. Good job, Watson.”
“Well, cheers, mate. Wasn’t exactly what I was planning, but I’ll take the praise. I still can’t figure why he did come out. He had a doozy of a hiding place all set up, what with that false wall and cozy little room he’d set up for himself.”
“That’s just it, Watson. When we entered the galleria, my immediate impression was that there was something wrong about it. The dimensions. But I didn’t follow through on my deductions. And look how much devastation has occurred.”
“Sherlock, mate, go easy on yourself. You couldn’t know he’d go all batty hearing us talk about sniffer dogs. I mean, turns out he’s phobic about pooches? You can’t predict this kind of thing. We all have our things, and there’s no reason why anyone, even you, should be able to pull a guess about something like that out of the air.”
“No, Watson, that’s just not true. And I never ‘just pull something out of the air.’ The signs were there. The thefts had commenced after the renovation project was completed. And even the canine connection should have been apparent to me—the owner of the art gallery has a pair of identical toy poodles, and the disappearances of these priceless minature pieces never happened on days when the dogs had been on site.”
“Toy poodles, miniature sculptures, she does really have something about tiny things, doesn’t she?”
“It was part of her aesthetic, Watson. Along with her charitable philosophy, all the proceeds went to provide building funds for tiny houses for people without permanent dwellings. Now her gallery is in a shambles, the work of established and budding artists in this field who had been featured there, destroyed. And all because I lost sight of what I’d immediately grasped when I entered the space. But I was distracted and forgot to follow up on it, John. It’s just unbelievable. I forgot. ”
“Hey, hey, it happens to all of us, Sherlock. You may be amazing and brilliant, and often what seems like miraculous, but you’re also quite human. But whoa. I might need a moment here, I think that’s the first time you’ve ever said my given name. Wait. Sherlock? Where are you going?”
Chapter 4
“Thanks for going through this mail, John. I’ve taken care of the bills, but there’s so much of this kind of thing” (sound of papers thwacking down on a counter) “and I can’t tell if it’s just junk or if there are some legitimate inquiries in there.”
“No problem, Mariana. They’re so sneaky with their envelopes these days, those spammers. And there’s no podcast to edit right now, so I’ve nothing better to do.”
“Any change in Sherlock?”
“No.” (Heavy sigh.) “It’s been the same since that case. He’s shut himself up in his room and won’t talk. At first he was at least playing his violin, screeching away at it all night. But now that he’s stopped that, I’m even missing that. At least I knew he was alive in there.”
“I’m sure he’ll snap out of it, eventually. I mean, hasn’t he before?”
…
“John?”
“I wouldn’t know actually.”
“You’ve never seen him go through this?”
“Well, you met him at just about the same time that I did, so your guess is as good as mine.”
“Oh, that’s right! You two are so close, I forget that sometimes. You seem to have always been together.”
“I can tell you, it did not feel like that right away. First couple of nights in the flat with him, I was afraid I’d become a murderer myself.”
“Then he could have come back and cracked the case!” (laughter) “He would have liked that.”
“Yes, I expect he would, at that. If anyone could come back from the dead and solve his own murder, it would definitely be Sherlock Holmes.”
“Well, what can we do to help him cheer up? Maybe we’ll find a nice juicy mystery in here and that will get him feeling better.”
“Maybe. But I already sent him a few leads from the email account, and he just told me to delete them all.”
“That sounds pretty bad.”
“I know. I’m pulling my hair out. I wish I knew what would make him feel better.”
“What about what he does to show his appreciation for us?”
“You mean cook him something? I couldn’t, he’s like a world class chef.”
“No, he’s really not.”
“What do you mean?”
“He’s been teaching himself to cook.”
“There’s no way—wait, why do you say so?”
“Who pays the bills around here? I’d noticed that there were certain charges happening frequently, paid to a Youtuber who runs private courses on cooking.”
“On the company card?”
“Yes, but neither of you had said anything about it, or sent me receipts.”
“And we both know how important those receipts are!”
“Yes, I think I made myself very clear on that after you two took that client out to rollerskate sushi and came back with absolutely nothing by way of documentation.”
“Yeah, I think I’m still paying off that outrageously expensive saki we drank out of little warmers on the harness they gave me. But it was so very good.”
“Huh. Perhaps it’s a good thing that you lost those particular receipts. Anyway, I asked Sherlock if he knew anything about it. He refused to tell me anything, just issued me a repayment and said I shouldn’t worry, there wouldn’t be any more charges. It was all sorted out, so I never ended up mentioning it to you. But did he tell you anything about it, John?”
“He never breathed a word about this to me.”
“I was worried it was some kind of scam he’d been caught in, that he was embarrassed to admit about.”
“Yeah, I can imagine that he would be pretty quiet about something like that. Should we be worried that he’s got some kind of gambling issue?”
“No. Not at all.”
“So you did figure out what it was?”
“I did.”
“Did a little detecting of your own?”
“Indeed.”
“How did you get it out of him?”
“I had noticed that the charges were paid at about the same time each week.”
“So you spied on him!?”
“No, no, I wouldn’t want to invade his privacy.”
“He bloody well does mine all the time. Do you know, he sat in the loo for fifteen whole minutes while I was in there, quiet as a mouse in the shower stall, while I’m shaving, clipping my toenails, taking a wee, moisturizing, have a nice little chat with myself…”
“Wait, moisturizing? John, I had no idea you had a beauty routine.”
“It’s not a beauty routine. It’s just good for my pores. It’s self-care.”
“That’s very wise of you, John.”
“Oh sod off.”
“What did Sherlock do?”
“Well, he startled me half to death he did. I was just giving myself a little pep talk in the mirror, reminding myself that everyone starts somewhere. Einstein didn’t pop off about E=MC2 first thing. He had to do a bit of maths, a bit of calculus, a bit of physics first. And I was sure to get better at this whole podcast thing as time went on.”
“So, how did he startle you?”
“Oh, right. He hears me saying that and comes out with ‘You’re quite right, Watson. Even Einstein was a beginner once.” Of course, then he tells me how Einstein taught himself maths and physics, earned a PhD at the age of 26 while publishing four ground breaking papers in those fields. ‘But Watson,’ he says ‘he’d failed an entrance exam once and had to struggle on, so don’t give up.’”
“He’s just trying to help.”
“Right, I know. And the funny thing is, it did help.”
“Even if he scared you to death?”
“Yeah, I think he was just there because he wanted the company. After I calmed down, I didn’t mind, actually.”
“See, you are close.”
“Well, if we were, wouldn’t I know how to cheer him up?”
“You’ve got to start somewhere.”
“Yeah, if only I knew what made him happy.”
“Oh! That was the whole point of my story. Sherlock was teaching himself to cook. For us.”
“Wait, so the Youtuber—”
“Correct, they were private classes on cooking.”
“Oh, wow. Now I really want to help him out of this.”
“Right.”
“Okay. Well, I have heard something recently that may help.”
“What?”
“An old acquaintance of his said he had a thing for pasta.”
“Like, the penne he keeps asking for?”
“He’s been asking for penne?.”
“Yup. He texts me when he knows I’m going to shop or put an order in. Penne and tomato sauce. That’s all he’s asked for…”
“Since that case. Okay, well. If he can learn to cook for us, I can learn to cook for him.”
“Do you think you need to take a class to cook pasta?”
“To make the best pasta ever tasted? Yes, absolutely.”
(Laughter) “You think you’re going to be able to make the best pasta ever?”
“Yes, because he deserves it.”
“Well, perhaps we can count this as a work expense, since it is meant to help him be able to get back to working again. Just–”
“I know, send you the receipts.”
“Bingo!”
Chapter 5
“Watson?”
“Yes, Sherlock.”
“What is that?”
“That, mate, is a plate of my very special beef crumble and mushroom lasagna. I used wine to sauté those mushrooms, just like you did with that risotto you made two weeks ago–”
“And you want me to eat this?”
“Well, I didn’t put it on your plate because I want you to throw it at me. What do you think?”
“Are you being serious, Watson?”
“Yeah. Should I not be?”
“Well, I regret to inform you that I am unable to comply.”
“You’re not hungry then?”
“No, no, I am quite famished.”
“Then, what is it? I thought you liked pasta?”
“You thought I liked pasta?”
“Yeah. I also rather thought you didn’t like repeating yourself?”
“I was repeating what you said, Watson. I never said I liked pasta.”
“Well, all you’ve been eating is that penne stuff lately, and I heard you did like it, so–”
“Who exactly did you hear that from?”
“Stamford. Said something about you liking it back at uni.”
“You’ve been digging into my history at university?”
“Whoa—wait a mo’ there, that sounds way more sneaky and spy-y than what happened. We were talking about you—”
“Oh, you were talking about me, and my eating habits when I was a student? I hope you feel enlightened now.”
(Sounds of a chair pulling back, then cabinets being opened, water running, and a pot being settled on the hob.)
“Sherlock… I’ve done something to upset you, haven’t I?”
“Please, Watson, I am quite hungry, as I said. Thank you for your gesture, but I’ll be quite fine with my penne." (Sounds of a fridge door opening.) Wait, where’s the jar of tomato sauce I had in the fridge?”
“Ummm, well, I sort of used it in the lasagna.”
“Did you use it or not? It appears to have vanished.”
“Yeh, it’s gone.”
(Sounds of a chair being pulled out and Sherlock sinking back into it.)
“How about butter? I always love a bit of salt and butter on my pasta when I’m not feeling quite the thing.”
“I suppose that will be acceptable.”
“No, wait.” (Sounds of footsteps and a coat being grabbled.) “I’ll just pop down to Tesco and get a couple more jars of the sauce.”
“Really, Watson, there’s no reason–”
“There really is. I wanted to make something special for you and all I did was end up ruining your dinner. It’s easy as pie to make it right. Just let me, okay?”
“Well… I will enjoy the dish much more if there is sauce. Just the plain, however.”
“No mushrooms? Peppers? Spicy red pepper with paprika?”
“Watson, I was feeling grateful but now you’re becoming tedious.”
“Gotcha. Plain tomato sauce coming up.”
(Sounds of feet running down stairs, followed by a door opening and being slammed shut in the distance.)
(Sounds of fingers drumming on a table. A chair is pulled back, a lid removed from a pot and replaced. A long suffering sigh.)
(Sounds of a voice humming. Water starts to bubble.)
“At last!”
(Sounds of jumping up from a chair. Pasta shakes in a box, and cardboard is torn open. The sounds of pasta being poured into a pot of water, just as a door is thrown open in the distance, slamming into a wall.)
“What is going on?!” (Mariana’s voice sounds distantly, coming up from the front hall of 221 Baker Street.)
“Oh, sorry Mariana. Can’t talk.” (John’s voice is closer, as though he’s made it up a few stairs.)
“Is there a case?”
“No, no, something much more important. Dinner!”
(Sound of Mariana sighing.) “Dinner? You had me worried, John.”
“Can’t chat, water boiling. ‘Ta.”
(The sounds of feet clattering up the stairs sound, and then rapid breaths, a bit wheezy.)
“Got ‘em! Here you are, mate. (A gasping breath ) Fresh from the Tesc. I believe these are from 2024. A very good vintage, if I do say so myself.”
“Watson, you are being ridiculous. There is no particular advantage to having tomatoes packaged in this year over any other. The processing of the sauce makes it highly homogenized. One batch will taste much like any other.”
“Yes, but if it came from last year, or the year before, it might well be off, so you’d likely not want to eat it, yes?”
“Perhaps. But all this talking isn’t going to get me fed anytime soon.”
“Oh, sorry, ‘course. Here we go, let me just—” (Sound of a pan clattering.)
“Please—let me. If you don’t mind. I just want to heat my sauce and eat in peace.”
“Sure thing. Yeah. Well. Maybe I’ll just see if Mariana wants to eat some of this lasagna.”
“Excellent idea.”
“Well, alright then. I guess I’ll just go.”
“Mm-hm.”
(Sounds of Sherlock humming as John’s footsteps recede.)
Chapter 6
“John! This is sooo delicious. Is that white wine I’m tasting?”
“Yeah. Yup. ‘Tis. The mushrooms.”
“Mmmm…. Thank you. This is really quite good. I wouldn’t have expected—”
“No, guess you wouldn’t. I really put my back into it.”
“That class really paid off.”
“Hmph. Yeah.”
“Well, you don’t seem very happy with it. Aren’t you going to eat some?”
“I dunno. My heart’s not really in it anymore.”
“Because Sherlock rejected it?”
“He didn’t— It’s not that Sherlock rejected me—”
“Whoa–whoa–whoa. I didn’t say he rejected you.”
“The thing. The pasta. He didn’t..,well, I suppose he did reject the lasagna. But I thought he liked it!”
“What exactly was it that Stamford said?”
“Something like he had a thing for pasta at uni.”
“That’s pretty vague really. There are a lot of types of pasta. Why did you think he would like this dish?”
“It’s all fancy. Like he’s been making for us. I figured he was down about the case, and not up to cooking something big. So, I thought I’d do it for him.”
“And, at any time, did you actually ask Sherlock what he wanted?”
“...”
“I take that is a ‘no’?”
“Erm—” (Whistles.) “Correct. I did not ask him what he wanted.”
“He’s been pretty clear. He wants tomato pasta. Penne.”
“But this is clearly so much better.”
“To who, John? To you?”
“...”
“Go talk to him.”
“He just threw me out of the kitchen. I doubt he wants to talk to me right now.”
“Was he angry about it?”
“A little bit.”
“Then all the more reason to talk. Maybe you need to apologize, maybe not. Find out.”
(A big sigh.)
Chapter 8
Summary:
John and Sherlock talk, and peace prevails.
Chapter Text
“Hello Watson! I’m feeling much better. Did you and Mariana enjoy the lasagna?”
“Yeah. I’m glad to hear that. We did. And I’m sorry—”
“What for?”
“For...assuming you’d want the lasagna.”
“That was odd.”
“Are you still upset that Stamford and I talked about you?”
“No, not really. I am a bit surprised.”
“It was nothing bad. Honestly, I wasn’t trying to get some kind of intel about you.”
“Well if you had been, Stamford wouldn’t be a terribly useful informant. You might try Victor next time. Or my brother. He’s well informed about most things and could detail quite a bit of my likes and dislikes from those years. Although, I’m not sure how useful any of that information would be to you, truly.”
“No, Sherlock. I’ll not be asking Victor, or your brother. If I want to know what you were like at uni I’ll ask you.”
“Hm. Well, I might prefer it if you do ask one of them. Not the best memories of that time.”
“Oh. Was it…hard for you?”
“Well, I didn’t graduate, and I had only one friend, and I never talk about it unless forced to do so. So that might tell you something.”
“Jeez. Oof. Sorry, mate. I didn’t realize how bad it was.”
“It was rather stressful.”
“Oh! Is that why the pasta?”
“Watson, that question makes no sense. There is not really a why relating to pasta. There might be a when, or a how. But why doesn’t make much sense for such a generic food stuff.”
“No, I don’t mean all pasta. I mean your pasta. I take it you ate penne a lot in uni. And you’re doing it now again?”
“Mm. Well, I did go through a phase where the tubetti lisci was my preference, but I’ve come to feel penne is superior once again.”
“Is this something that makes you feel better when you’re out of sorts?”
“Ye–Perhaps. It doesn’t exactly cheer me up. It’s more that it’s dependable.”
“Because it’s always the same?”
“Because it’s straightforward. There’s no surprises in it. I know I like the taste, and the texture, and I know that each bite I’ll have will be 100% what I want.”
“No squishy mushrooms. No odd little nuggets of something.”
(An unhappy grunt.) “Do we really need to talk about those things. I just had a very satisfying dinner.”
“Oh, I’ll stop. ‘Course. But, so when you made those dishes for Mariana and me, was that just because you thought we’d like them?”
“No. Well, I did make them because you had indicated you liked those particular meals, but I chose the ones to make you’d both talked about that were also appealing to me. It’s a lot of effort to cook something like that, I’d like to enjoy it as well.”
“I’m quite glad about that. I would have been sad if you’d been making it just because we wanted it but you hated the thing. I misunderstood, and thought that was the way you liked to eat, but were, maybe too depressed to have energy to cook it.”
“I haven’t had energy to do that kind of cooking. I’m not depressed about the case.”
“You’re not? You’ve been moping about, and turning down cases. Looks like depression to me.”
“I’m considering.”
“Considering, if you want to continue?”
“More considering how I can avoid that kind of issue again.”
“Mate, ya’ can’t.”
“Well, that’s very reassuring.”
(A half-bitten off laugh.) “I’m sorry. I’m not saying you’re a failure. I’m saying you’re human.”
“But I’ve never had that kind of error creep in before.”
“Never?”
“Well, perhaps not never…”
“You will be tired. You will be hungry. You will be sick. You will miss something.”
“Unlikely.”
(Chuckling.) “Once or twice. Here or there. You’ve said I’ve helped you out now and then, what’s that if not maybe not having it all 100% in your noggin.”
“But I have your help now. And Mariana’s.”
“And we’re extremely human as well.”
“Oh, I know. Watson, you do realize that you snore, don’t you? You might wish to take your naps up in your bedroom.”
“Thanks for that. I never got complaints in the barracks.”
“That is because everyone snores or something, and in that situation there is no real remedy, so what do you expect?”
“We’re getting off track here. This is not about my sleeping patterns.”
“But you will nap in your room?”
“Sure, fine. Whatever. But are you feeling depressed?”
“Perhaps.”
“Well, I’d like to help. Somehow.”
(Sherlock takes a deep breath and releases it with a sigh.)
“You are, Watson.”
“By making you lasagna that disgusts you so much I can’t even talk about it and making you think that I’m spying on you by chatting to your old friends?”
“Nooot really either of those things. But you are here. And you tried to do something nice. That is greatly appreciated.”
“Glad to. On both counts.”
“And you are dependable.”
(A chuckle.) “Like your next bite of manky pasta?”
“It’s not manky. You’re not gross.”
“I’m simple then? Like a tubal li-whatever you called it?”
“Tubetti lisci. No. You’re much more like a penne. Smooth, durable, but with a bit of a nice point at each end. A little bit of texture, a little bit of bite. And you take the sauce so well.”
“I have no idea what any of this all means. Is that good?”
“Excellent, Watson. You may not have the complexity of something like your lasagna there, but I always know what I am getting, and I always know that I will like the next bite.”
“Aw, thanks.”
“And I am very glad you made the lasagna.”
“Even though it made you want to sick up?”
“It didn’t.”
“Admit it, it did a bit.”
“A bit.”
“But you’re still glad?”
“Well, you and Mariana enjoyed it, didn’t you?”
“Yes. We really did. Well, she did. I wasn’t really feeling it. My appetite was a bit off after making you so cranky.”
“Are you feeling better now?”
“I am. And I am feeling a bit more hungry.”
“Then why don’t you heat some up. I’m thinking I may have a second helping of my pasta and it might be...nice to eat with you, too.”
“One re-heated plate of lasagna coming up.”
“It’s nice that even though I am not feeling up to doing something for you both, I can still enjoy seeing you have something you like to eat.”
“Is that why you did it?”
“Well, of course. I didn’t cook things you didn’t like to watch you get sick on them.”
“No, I mean you wanted to see us like the food. And even if you didn’t make it, it still makes you happy.”
“Why did you want to make the lasagna for me, Watson?”
“Ah. Yeah. Same reason. See you happy. Right.”
“Right.”
“What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”
“Why are we talking about geese now?”
“Forget it.”
“I’d rather not forget something else presently.”
“Oh. Sorry, wrong turn of phrase. Suppose it might be nice to forget about the case though. Or uni.”
“Unlikely.”
“At least you won’t forget me, or Mariana anytime soon.”
“That is true, Watson. I find you both, rather unforgettable.”
“Cheers. Want me to heat that up for you, too?”
“Please.”

My thoughts and feelings on Uglies the movie
I'm starting to think I understand a bit of how people who read Percy Jackson before watching the movies feel. Uglies was... a movie. I have thoughts that I wanna share with a condensed version of my rant with the notes I took at the very bottom. I know in the end it's just a movie but at the moment it's important to me. Obviously SPOILERS for Uglies, the book (mainly the first one) and the movie.
I want to start with the things I liked since that's a much shorter list.
i LOOVEE the casting for Dr. Cable as Laverne Cox, Keith Powers as David, Brianne Tju as Shay. I also like the casting for David's parents, Croy, Sussy, Dex and An.
Not all the design elements hit for me but the look and sound of the hover cars and boards i really liked. As well as how the interface rings looked and worked, kinda showing how easy it was for things to be "hacked". The look of the operation tank wasn't something I thought too hard about but I like how they brought it to life. And "THE SMOKE LIVES" was beautifully done. While reading the books I imagined something more childish given the sparklers but the movie did them wonderfully.
And something small and rather insignificant, Tally telling Shay that Peris was the one who gave her the necklace makes a little more sense than some random person giving it to her and her caring enough to wear it all the way to the Smoke.
Now... on to the nitty gritty of the things I didn't like as much. Some are kinda nitpicky so take my word with a grain of salt as these are all just my personal opinions. I took notes as I watched so they will kind of be in chronological order.
First is the casting of Tally and Peris. I knew when I saw the trailers I wouldn't like Joey King as Tally Youngblood, I don't think she's that bad of an actress, she just doesn't fit my vision of Tally. I like alternatives of someone like HAVANA ROSE LIU !!!, Sophia Lillis, Emma Myers, Paris Berelc, Chandler Kinney, Inde Navarrette, Talia Ryder, Quintessa Swindell. Basically, anyone other than Joey King. Someone I could see being book 1 Tally but also becoming who she was in later books. And for Peris maybe someone like Archie Renaux, Archie Madekwe, Nico Hiraga, Brodie Townsend, Connor Sherry, maybe a Finn Little or even a Charlie Plummer. Clearly, I don't have a set look for these characters just vibes.
I don't like that Dr. Cable is a public figurehead. Most of the things she does and are capable of are because she's more secretive. She's a manipulator who works behind the scenes. I could've appreciated it if they had done more with it and made it a purposeful change but like many other things I don't see the point in it.
Tally's relationships with anyone are honestly one of the most disappointing things done and my #1 gripe with this movie. It just does not make me care at all. We're missing so many vital scenes that I'm sure they couldn't fit all of them in but because of what they cut out I couldn't buy into them as people. Everything just felt so temporary and non concrete. I know it was probably to save money from actors ( f you btw netflix) but I'm sad the only other scene with Tally's parents, them convincing her to give up Shay and the Smoke, was missing. Her and Peris' relationship falls very one note and her and Shay's just falls flat. No real friendship between the two, bonding over feeling lonely and (at least to Tally) beginning their next step to prettiness together. Shay's constant reassurance that she doesn't think Tally is ugly and how she feels about keeping her original face because she doesn't think of herself as ugly either. Shay's anger is completely missing for me when in the book it was a very big thing considering how much Tally's betrayal cost her. The same anger thing with Maddy happened too but more on that later. Even with Dr. Cable manipulating her I think it was so poorly done. She just straight up lied to her about what was going on in the Smoke instead of using everything Tally had wanted for the last 16 years against her.
Next is what I think to be one another major failing on the movie that I have to force myself to understand that they simply didn't have time for but.. Cutting basically all of Tally's journey to the Smoke really hurt me because I feel like throughout all the books Tally's relationship and outlook on the wild is some of the most important because it shows a lot about who she is as a person when she really has to be alone with herself in such dangerous conditions and situations. The wild is always the start of her radicalization and her free thinking. It helps her be more open about the Smoke and it honestly informs a lot of her decisions later down the line. Her puzzling through Shay's note and learning to survive (with the help of some city things) were very detrimental and sad almost none of it made it into the script. And they didn't even get the note right!!
Short and to the point- replacing the rangers who helped Tally (and gave lowkey clues about what she learns later) with the Smokies.. Again, I understand time and money restraints but still Ugh!
Them making Croy immediately overly aggressive and skeptical of Tally also just takes away from his character. Even in the books we have little to go on, but I think taking away making him slowly put pieces together about Tally's stories and the math of the SpagBols simply not mathing is a small but disappointing takeaway.
The entire time in the Smoke went by wayy too fast, they never let you or Tally just sit and exist with the people living there already so again i just don't care that it was raided! We missed out on Tally discovering the people who lived there along with more of her relationship with Shay being discarded. Taking out the library, Tally discovering all of the people and faces from before through books and magazines and the man who looked over all of that. Which flattens her character more seeing as that was one of the first deaths she experiences that she feels is her fault. Tally meeting David's parents felt rushed and their conversation about the lesions just felt like it was her entire reason for suddenly not wanting to listen to Dr. Cable instead of her forming her own opinions and that being her final straw.
Something the movie loved to do was take away so many crucial parts of the story, a major thing being the raid of The Smoke. In the movie it happens so quickly even though I'm sure they could've included a majority of it. Tally's desperation in fighting for something she had inadvertently helped destroy, her and the Boss fighting to protect the last of the books and her watching him get killed because of it. Because of her. Her getting captured and gaining trust and respect from people (Croy!) who previously doubted her, but at the same time her relationship with Shay hitting the fan because she instantly knew Tally was at fault. Her being smart enough to outwit and out maneuver a Special Circumstance soldier and escape. Her hiding in the cave with David. Her coming back to see Croy had convinced people to leave their shoes because she didn't have any while hoverboarding away. All which fuels her guilt and need to protect and rebuild The Smoke seeing as she felt it her fault. In the movie she hid out in the open.. ran out screaming when Az was killed... outed what she had done in front of everyone. Then she blew up a building and Dr. Cable literally just let her go for no apparent reason. David finding out what she had done and what she caused should've warranted more anger but of course we get none of that. Next we just jump into helping the captured Smokies escape and Tally's crazy ass plan that actually helped show the depth of how smart she is was glazed over. We lose the reveal of Dr. Cable testing on Az causing him to pass away which, on top of being a doctor, fuels Maddy's need to have someone give informed consent before testing the cure for the lesions. The movie also took Maddy rightful anger toward Tally away from her. It might seem small in the grand scheme of things but agreeing to be the test subject for an untested brain alter for a woman who dislikes you for having a part in her husband dying is a step in her trying to earn forgiveness.
Shay's reveal to be turned pretty was completely under done and felt because of the lack of depth they gave to her character along with her relationship with Tally. Shay never wanted to be turned pretty and Tally is a big part of the reason her choice was taken away from her. Her becoming pretty was another thing that made Tally completely regret all that she had done and showed more of the ripple effect of the consequences of her actions. Plus that fuck ass wig and ugly silver dress they had her running around in !!
Overall so many of the choices made by netflix just lets me know they never intended on continuing the series in future movies regardless of the outcome of this one. Like them making Peris special and then killing him off ??!! The Specials having special suits and not special bodies. Changing out the rangers to not expand on the lore. ((Edit: The flowers being made by the cities actually does so much to harm the story which also explains why they removed the rangers because it was cities fighting against yet ANOTHER rusty invention that was destroying the world. The cities (who knows how many) were fighting to preserve nature which lends to them dulling people to slow down their overconsumption and later Tally's mission to make sure the wild was protected when people eventually got their free will back.)) Making the ending open ended because there was no way they could fully close it out because of the nature of the books but every other choice felt so definitive as to an ending and nothing more, like showing Tally pretty at the end when the closing of the book was just her surrendering. The movie itself didn't expand on even just the first books’ lore and it just felt like an extremely lukewarm version of the story that happens over a 30 minute period even though the movie is an hour and a half long. Everything felt rushed and not true to Uglies the book at all and it upsets me to see these books introduced to people in this way.
Ok, rant over. Peace out.

Serpent-Cide (2/?)
(Unedited) (IDK what to tag for this chapter.)
(Part One|Part Two|Part Three|TBA|)
Veronica’s gaze seemed to stare into my soul to a point thought she was trying to read my thoughts. Though she wouldn't find many at this point. My only thought in the moment was trying to find a way out of this shitty situation.
“Reader can you please come over here, I have a list of students for you as well. You will need to show them around for the next week or so until they are acclimated.” she said with a serious tone. She waved a piece of paper around, pointing it in my direction. I chewed on the inside of my cheek. A few drops of blood welled in my mouth as I looked at her, but I knew people where looking at me now. I could feel their states, from both sides of the room.
This is what I dreaded about even doing this stupid thing.
Now I really did wish I would have just skipped this whole gawk feast.
I gently clawed at my backpack straps and walked over to them. Archie stepped out of the way so I could reach the other girl. I quickly and quietly took the paper from her hand. She gave only a small almost emotionless smile. It was like there was nothing there. No real feeling behind the borderline dead smile. Girls like Veronica, like Cheryl, were really good at faking those little smiles.
Just looking at her like that made me shiver a little. I tried my best to suck it up and pretend I couldn't tell it wasn't real.
Cheryl scoffed from a foot or so away from us and rolled her eyes.
“Oh of course you guys had to get tubby involved in this mess. Can't believe you talked Little Miss Lard Ass into coming out and helping you with this little degenerate fest your having.” she laughed. It echoed through the hallway. A few people laughed alongside her but I didn't pay much attention to it. It wasn't the first time she or any of these other assholes made a fat joke about me. Wasn't the first and wouldn't be the last time she heard it out of one of their mouths. I simply rolled my eyes and kept reading the paper I was given.
“Yeahhhh Cheryl, Lard Ass is just a tad bit warmer than the soul-sucking succubus that you are these days. These people came to get an education, not to get their souls ripped from their bodies in order to feed your ever-growing ego.” I muttered. It was loud enough that she scoffed in pure shock. A few people around me laughed, Betty paled a little while Veronica smirked a little. Archie’s seemed to zip his lip at the comment.
I looked up from the paper to find Cheryl glaring at me, her face turing that classic cherry red of hers. She almost looked to be steaming which was a sight for sour eyes. Digging myself into a hole with one of the biggest people in town was horrible to think about, but at this point, I didn't want to think too hard about it. Staying out of the spotlight was my thing, but dipping my toe into some drama every once in a while to piss someone like Cheryl off was worth it.
Being able to infuriate a girl like Cheryl Blossom was a treat.
A small look of genuine confusion seemed to cross some of the newcomer's faces. I didn't expect them to understand how my words burned the other girl so badly. But they would eventually learn the food chain of the school. It was just a matter of time. I could only imagine what SouthSide High’s food chain looked like. It was probably even more nasty than the one here. We had to deal with rich kids and steroid junky jocks.
They had to deal with gangbangers and regular junkies.
Both Reggie and Cheryl made a loud exit as they grew board of their surroundings. Realizing their little game was getting old for the time being.
“Any of you do a thing out of line, I'll know about it.” She hissed. Soon enough she was storming up the stairs with a group of cheerleaders. Reggie smirked in my direction. I felt like gagging at the sight. He was quick to follow Cheryl, some of the jocks close behind. The sound of their voices boomed up the staircase.
My attention was drawn back to the paper in my hand.
I felt kinda of lucky after reading over the list, I only had about four people to look after. I did find it comical that they decided to stick Jughead with me. Poor guy was already a student, he left a few weeks ago and now he's back. It's as if he was never even a student at the school, treating him like some no-name transfer student.
Said once and I'll say it again, this school blows.
The next few minutes went by in a blur as the new students flooded the table. Snatching up paper after paper until the whole table was completely picked over and cleaned. Not one single schedule or map was left. It was only a few minutes later that the excitement started to slowly die down. Small groups of southsiders started to line the hall, talking with each other and going over their schedules together. It was clear that most of them seemed to be hoping to stick together.
Wishing to be put into the same classes as one another. I could feel for them in that since, being stuck into a new school surrounded by kids that hated them already. Not just because they where in a gang, but because they came from a different side of town that was labeled a shit hole.
I tried my best to not look at them with pity, but it was hard. It was hard not to feel bad for them.
I sighed to myself and looked at the paper one more time. There was only a small scene of relief that filled me as I found one particular name, it stuck out like a thumb.
Jughead Jones, types in a bold black font.
My eyes where quick to scan the small crowed, finding his iconic beanie. That thing was like a beacon. The guy has been wearing that things since…forever? I can still remember seeing him in middle school wearing the same exact hat. He occasionally switched some of the pins on it every once in a while. But I could tell that it was the same one.
Jug and me where decent acquaintance, possibly better then my relationship with Betty. JugHead didn’t bother to make a friendship with me what so ever. He hardly asked questions, didn’t try to insert himself into my business and didn’t make a big effort to go out of his way to bother me.
Sitting in silence was good enough for the both of us.
Which was just what I wanted.
My feet carried me over to him and the little group he was talking to. Four of them stud talking about something in a small circle in whispers. As soon as I made my presence know they separated.
Looking at Jug I raised a brow, no longer did he act like the guy I knew. His stance and posture were looser than usual, more toned. He stood taller with his shoulders proud and strong.
Did Jughead grow more of a backbone sense I last saw him? Maybe hanging out in the southside did something for him. Out of nowhere I got a feeling, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stick up. Maybe Jughead finally ended up following in his dad’s footsteps. It wasn’t that out there of a possibility.
“Really can't believe they roped you into doing this. What did they threaten you with this time? It's got to be something big to get you to hang around anyone in this school.” Jug mused as he looked by way. His eyes filled with a bit of amusement. His natural sarcasm seemed to ooze out. I rolled my eyes saying “ They threatened me using the stupid ass volunteer hours, apparently I don't have any for this semester. It was either I do this or they pull something out of a hat to get me with at the end of the year. And as you can tell, no one was exactly jumping to get this opening.” I crossed my arms. He didn't say mush to that, only giving a small nod. The guy behind him, the one with the tattoo on his neck didn't seem to get it.
“What are you to scared of us? Like the rest of you shitty northsiders!” the guy almost barked. Once again rage seemed to flare up inside him, quickly bursting out of the seems. He definitely had some minor anger issues going on. His brows knitted together and his adams apple bobbed. I tried my best not to flinch at his harsh tone. Jug looked like he wanted to say something but it died on his tongue.
I snapped back “You think I really fucking care? Half of these kids have only heard about the southside, they haven't even left the this side of the tracks their whole lives. The only reason why they make a big deal about it is because it's a chain reaction of the rich people on the northside wanting to show off how classiest they are. You think I've been to the southside?” the guy was silent.
“Iv seen a bit of it but have never actually been. Last time I checked, Southsiders don't make a huge habit of coming all the way over here for fun. Iv never done anything to you guys and you haven't done anything to me. So, once again, why the fuck should I care about any of you so long as you aren't messing with me?” my tone was slightly aggravated with a sense of boredom backing it. It wasn't every day someone tried to pick a real fight with me.
Then again I had never actually met a real southside serpent before.
There was a long pause of silence between all five of us. We all just stud around, not another word being uttered. Jughead cut the act for a moment and scratched at the back of his head. Seeming to be a bit embarrassed at the other teens outburst, even the girl next to him seemed annoyed. Unlike Jug she seemed to be more use to his outbursts, she simply rolled her eyes at him.
“Reader I-”
“No I get it Jughead, they're being cautious. But-” I paused and looked at the taller boy “Just know that I probably dislike this school and the people in it just as much as them. I don't like this school, I don't like the kids, and most of all I don't give two shits about this town. If you want to start something, take that crap to the jocks not me.” he stepped back a little bit. His face was ever so slightly relaxed. Just enough that the crease in his brow disappeared. I could still see the way his ears flushed under his dark black locks. His gaze shifted from me to the guy beside him, the shorter serpent gave him a hard look. They stared at each other for a good minute before he finally relaxed.
Jaw locked hard as he just looked back in my direction.
Shuffling a little I handed the paper still held to Jughead. He took a moment and looked it over before handing it back.
“So you got me and these guys.” he threw a thumb behind him.
“Im guessing, if you have a Toni, Fang and Sweet Pea??” I said with a little bit of question at the end. I wanted to question the name Fang but I also wanted to know the reason behind Sweet Pea. Fang was an interesting name, to say the least. But Sweet Pea? That was both sweet and odd. It wasn't a very comment nickname to my knowledge, maybe a sweet endurance kinda of thing. Never had I met someone who actually went by the nickname before on a daily basis. The girl tried to hold back a snicker, covering her mouth with her jacket sleeve which didn't go unnoticed by the others. She was quick to cough trying to cover her slip-up.
“If we could just all chill out for one second, please. Reader isn't a threat to the serpents, I can cover her on that.” Jug said looking back at his friends. They all kinds looked at each other, thinking on if they could actually trust his word. Seconds later it looked like they had reached some sort of unspoken argument. The other three nodded to one another before looking back at me.
“So do you want my help or not? Knowing you Jughead, this is a cake walk being you have already gone to school here. Do you want me to help your little friends or not? I still have to do something to at least look a little busy like I'm actually helping you guys out.” the idea to leave all of that stuff up to Jughead crossed my mind. He was smart, he could do all the stuff the school wanted me to help out with. But then it felt kinda of mean to just dump it all on him. There were three different people he would have to show around school and then to all their classes. I may be a ass in my own right but…it just seemed wrong.
“How about we split it? I already know where all of my classes are. Let's check their schedules, I'll take who ever has most of my classes and you take the ones who have more of your classes. Deal?” he quirks a brow my way. I give a small nod and watch as he collects the other's class schedules. Stepping over to me we both check over their papers.
A spark of hope went through me as I noticed only one of them seemed to have a good portion of classes with me.
Sweet Pea.
“Seems like I'll be taking Sweet Pea off your hands then.” I gave a half smile to Jug. All he did was him before stuffing the other papers into his friend's hands again. Looking over them again my eyes land on the girl. She gave me a smile but before I could even give one back, my hopes of being stuck with another girl were dashed.
The tattooed boy stepped out of the group and walked closer to me.
I could feel my eye begging to twitch behind my eyelid.
Why the fuck did “Sweet Pea” have to be what looked to be a six-three-tattooed man. One who just minutes ago was trying to get into my face.
“Well this is Sweet Pea. I'll trust you will be as nice as YOU can possibly be right. No bumping him in the hallway when you get tired of him. I know your way.”
“Please tell me you're not still mad when I left your ass in the gym that one time because you wouldn't take the hint to leave me alone.”
“Maybe I am, just a tiny bit.” he said with a bit of annoyance. Leave it to Jug to be still pissed about such a little thing.
“Now Sweet Pea, try not to bite off her head. We will meet you at lunch.” He said looking up at the other boy. Sweet Pea rolled his eyes as he watched Jughead start walking off. The girl who I could only now assume was Toni patted him on the shoulder before following Jug. Fang grinned at him and just laughed, giving him a hard slap to the should before jogging off to catch up with the other two. Sweet Pea grimaced as he watched them leave. His eyes trailed down the hall until they disappeared around a sharp corner. I couldn't help but do the same, watching them go.
“So are you going to show me around this place or what?” his voice made me shiver. It was deep and echoed. It wasn't thick but rang in my ear as he spoke. The angriness from his voice had long died. Now all that filled it was sarcasm and mischief. It was laced into a simple statement.
“Your going to be a pain in the ass aren't you?”
All he did was smirk before ripping his schedule from my hands.
I can't have nice things can I.
(Don't worry y'all, Sweet Pea will have more attention next chapter promise! We just have to work up to it. This is a slow-building fix.😚)

ok leaked 2x01 clip observation post
(watch the clip here)
God. Izzy looks completely wrecked in this- hes scruffy and his hairs not slicked back properly he just looks. tired.
EVERYONE LOOKS SO COOL THOUGH
i want to know WHY he stutters there- what was he going to say instead?
for me, the way fang asks izzy how hes doing is not just a sign that things have gotten so bad, but it implies prior emotional connection. fang had to be the one to breach this conversation because he Knows Izzy (perhaps the others were too nervous to start because the situation is Obviously tense, but fang knows him) idk thats what i get from it.
'dont help me, dont help me' izzy sweetheart :( they are your friends.
the way jim says 'unhealthy relationship with blackbeard' sounds like they were coached, like they were repeating something someone else said. i love two unemotional assholes trying their best. unhealthy relationship is such a frenchieism to me i can just imagine jim noting it down in their journal like. 'good wording. practice saying it a few more times. toxic??????'
i believe theyre called archie and i love them so much. lesbianism hours.
rhino horn i assume is a drug? hm.
'hes cut off at least two more of your toes, hasnt he?' HOLY SHIT
the way frenchie says that is like. it wasn't infection or an accident its purposeful. they KNOW something is happening. ed Took two more toes. at least, that they know of. how do they know??? are they listening? can they hear his screams? is he asking for medical help from them? rotating round them all so no one person knows just how bad it is? (but theyre talking. theyre talking to each other now. about him, theyre worried)
maybe his first really did heal fine and it was a later infection. maybe. maybe ed took the whole leg. on purpose. whats izzy been doing to 'make ed do this'- did ed even anything to justify it? was he protecting the crew? smuggling rations to lucius? at best he was disobeying orders, but given their reactions it obviously wasnt anything that endangered anyone- imo he would have been looking out for them (maybe that why he is instructing them to throw away loot. hes protested that one too many times)
the way he immediately starts crying at that too. its like. hes been thinking all these things for a while and didn't want to say it out loud, or was thinking it was all on him and that he deserved it- but then someone comments out loud its not a good situation and he just. thats his oh moment and he falls apart.
IZZY GETS A HUG
god a fang hug looks so good- even when hes obviously trying to respect izzy being uncomfortable it
the way he is desperately trying to hold back sobbing- like if he breaks apart now he knows its the end, he will never be able to put himself back together. he needs to remain strong remain put together, he will never survive otherwise. it doesnt even really feel like hes trying not to cry because its weakness, not appropriate of him anymore, its simply that he cant afford to.
also making unconscious noises when uncomfortable. me 🤝 izzy autistic bitches. (this is only to me)
JIM IS SO UNCOMFRTABLE ALSO (and archie?) god. i desperately want happy izzy & jim dynamics i think they would work SO good, neither of them want to touch an emotion with a ten foot pole wtf please get jim out of there and a knife in their hand.
god. god. theres so much here. the crew dynamics. izzy found family canon confirmed i love it so much. this is everything ive ever wanted izzys getting love! hes getting a good arc! hes making allies and friends and they care about him!!!! theyre worried about him!!!!!!
god. i was already so excited for season 2 but this is everything to me. i just know this is going to be so good. i have SO much faith
#my sweet friend reading this: hm ive read some of these words before#hi my beloved yes i rehashed some of this from our conversation i only have so many thoughts#ill probably build off some of these individual points at some point but feel free to take them and run already#i just had to get this down on page#im just screaming holy shit izzy arc izzy arc#i cannot be normal about thius#nyxtalks#ofmd#ofmd s2 spoilers#izzy hands#israel hands

So, every game gets patched at some point right
Each version changes something inside the game and when the option exists- you can switch back to an older version of the game to check for stuff that got removed.
Unfortunately for Still Wakes The Deep there is only ONE previous public version you can switch to.
(basically you need to type in a command inside the steam console, grab app id, build id and manifest id and let it download and you manually replace your current files with those downloaded ones- ofc making a backup of your files before you do. There is a very easy to understand guide on youtube on how to do it)
The previous version is 1.2, in comparison to 1.3 (the current version which was released on the 16th of July, judging the steamdb page) has minimal differences.
I did notice the previous version had more soundfiles in the media folder. Roughly 83 of them, but most of those are Rennick body sounds, helicopter blade sounds, gloves rubbing while sitting near the heater and some environment sounds. It also includes one Trots voiceline, but it's one we already know. But these files got removed in 1.3 (the patch doesn't mention this I think, which means there could be differences inside the game files nobody knows about. But I don't know what else it could be)
Main reason I was suddenly sooooo interested to check for previous versions... is because Axol found a video on YouTube from a person called Mkiceandfire- and this person plays the game in version 1.0 which bewildered me a ton. Apparently a few folks already saw this video awhile ago. I somehow didn't?
But this game has quite a few differences inside the dialogue. Like Caz even says something when Roper grabs him with the tendrils "AAARGHH Get the fuck away from me! Aargh fuck!" for example.
Or the infamous Davros on the deck subtitle. The McLurg talking to Bruce was once titled Davros, which in turn got killed by Muir on the deck. And if you remember, Davros would later call you on the phone saying he's near the lifeboats. So it makes a lot of sense, that the name got changed. Otherwise you would have a random plot hole, or Davros is so strong and survived the attack for some reason-
However they may have forgotten, that there is already a McLurg with Boyd, so no clue why he's there twice.
I know the "McLurg/Davros" model is named Bruce so it's like... Bruce talking to Bruce which gives me a total ANEURYSM.
Trots even had a different VOICELINE before he gets crushed by debris!! And while Caz walks up to Accomm roof he still seems to be alive like, huh.
I haven't noticed any other major differences aside from different subtitles and some alternative voicelines. Which I found interesting, in version 1.0 Caz seemed more angry towards the infected (even getting pissed at tendrils grabbing him in Admin). But there must've been some early version where he was more sympathetic towards them, judging gamefiles. And currently he seems more "neutral"
I have no clue when the new patch comes out (the new patch will include an edit to the credits, which finally adds Innes' VA), on the steamdb page it seems there are tons of private patches done this month. The page even lists other builds, but normal people don't have access to those. But it lists beta, alpha and developer versions for example. God imagine seeing those, the story must've been so different in beta. Or maybe these soundfiles are from alpha, I don't knowwww.
I might need to check everything inside the files of 1.2 in hopes of finding something that got removed. But at first glance, it all seems the same.
But before I even do that, I want to finish listening to the soundfiles this weekend (I am over 12000 now). I discovered an interesting soundfile from Admin too. It's probably Archie's voice?? I'm not sure, either him or Scooby. But he's saying "Get off him" before screaming (it triggers when you leave the room with the flickering TV).
I really wanna finish this Muir video, I want to focus on other stuff. I started fleshing out another drawing for the AU too.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

lol this is random but Archie or whoever is in charge needs to HURRY the hell up with that Lurker movie. like im glad that he's relaxing and having fun n all that but my god it's taking FOREVERRRR. I don't want to sound like entitled or anything but there's barely been any anything else about the movie, not even crumbs really, well I know he was in his pink hair era and the video of him on the stage (i think it was for a scene but idk don't take my word lol) but it wasn't for that long. like did we ever even get any details about what it would be about besides that my girl Havana was in it??? idk I just need more new Archie characters to get obsessed with and occupy my headspace 😭😭😭, and hopefully this time he'll get his flowers because the salt burn era did NOT give him attention he deserved. like Archie did not act out Farleigh in such a amazing and interesting way for the both of them to be overlooked. but then again i don't think salt burn got enough attention either, like in the sense that it felt like everyone stopped talking about it in a few months 🥲. it still surprises me that Farleigh didn't get popular enough on tiktok and Tumblr (a little bit) because I would think he's THE ideal character that people would fawn and thirst over while simultaneously psychoanalyzing him 🤷🏾♀️
BRO I KNOW RIGHT ??? i dont know how long they’re gonna make us wait but it sure feels like FOREVER since it wrapped. and i dont think the shooting took that much time for it to take THIS long to come out ? like i already am so ready to write for oliver the singer and IM SOOOO READY for lurker in general.
also yeah saltburn had its 5 seconds of fame and thats IT. now people barely talk about it and some even have forgotten about it 😭 and omg yes archie potrayed farleigh so well i have to keep reminding myself that he’s a character and not a real person. also people were too focused on the surface level scenes like the bathtub scene and the graveyard scene. farleigh had his favourite side character moment but imo it should’ve gone for atleast longer than it had.
farleigh is the perfect side character that i would fall head over heels for just like how i do with other side characters from other shows. i think its because he only had like 5mins of screentime that people overlooked him and people focused on jacob elordi more. but yk its more common for people to obsess over the main character especially a conveniently attractive one at that. farleigh was complex and had depth and i guess people didnt favor that as much. anyways i do think that its also because saltburn came out at the wrong time. if only it came out in summer i think it would’ve gotten the recognition it deserves and most importantly i want people to appreciate archie’s work in it more than they do now. i want him receiving AWARDS. dont get me started on how there was a strike when his biggest main character movie came out. i could only imagine how frustrating that must’ve been.
tbh i think archie’s not one to really chase after the typical hollywood recognition. he just wants to do what he loves, enjoy what he’s doing and live a good life. i also think that he has great self respect so you wont catch him doing anything and everything just to be recognized. eventho i dont know him personally, i do think he looks a bit exhausted and i hope he’s resting well rn. as much as i want more projects featuring him, i want him to be happy. we can still talk about him all the time on here and i’ll keep writing for him 😜

Navigation Masterlist Out of Their Minds (pt. 1)
Crash!
Baaaaaaaaang!
You watched the chaos going on outside your house from the comfort of your tank.
Okay, it’s Paseton’s house but it’s not like it matters much.
It’s almost been a year since you started living with the Whale Tribe. At first, everyone was apprehensive about the Whale Prince bringing you home. However, soon enough they considered you as part of their own.
They seem to have a misunderstanding that you and Paseton are dating though. Not that you knew about it.
“What’s wrong? You scared little bitch? Hmmm?“
You hear Archie taunt White Star and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“I wish I asked for some snacks…”
Chaos continued on the battlefield. The tank on the rooftop gave you full access to everything happening while simultaneously displaying you.
“So I just have to act like I don’t want to give this piece of paper since it’s from my mom? But it’s not really from her and this is just some bullshit document?”
“Exactly, just taunt them for a bit before giving it up.”
“But what if they want to take me with them?”
You asked Paseton as you clutch the fake document in your chest.
“They wouldn’t be able to get you out of our house even if they wanted to. I promise.”
Paseton reassures you. His confident gaze makes you have courage too.
“So that’s where you’ve been. I’ve been worried sick you know?”
White Star lied to your face casually. You couldn’t help but stick your middle finger at him.
“You’re not that great of a liar you fucker!”
…Maybe you’ve been hanging too much with Archie these days.
The masked man let out a dry laugh before his eyes landed on the document you were holding. How could it not? It’s under-water but it looks perfectly fine. That could only mean that it’s important.
“I see you’ve decided to betray your kind and join hands with the Whale Tribe. Say now my nephew, what’s that paper in your hands?”
“Nephew my ass! I told you stupid idiots that I’m not that desperate for a family to consider you as one.”
You dived down the tank and White Star leisurely followed you by going down the stairs. Yes, Paseton has essentially built an entire saltwater aquarium that has access to every part of his house. He said that this way you’ll be able to go anywhere you want in the house even while staying in the tank.
“Give that document to me and then we’ll go home together. How does that sound?”
Is this guy dumb or what? Just how many times do you have to say that you don’t want to be part of his cult before he gets it in that thick skull of his?
“This is my home you dipshit! And there’s no way I’m giving you this. Mom said this is important enough that it will unite the mermaids and the whales—”
You covered your mouth as if you’d accidentally spilt a big secret. White Star smiled, your “slip-up” just confirmed his suspicion that the document in your hand is connected to the one in Paseton’s pocket.
“That must be the bargaining chip you used so you could hide in here.”
‘Err not really… Wow, young master Cale was right, walk a few steps with this bastard and he’ll run a mile.’
The deposed mermaid prince accidentally showed astonishment in his face. Luckily, White Star interpreted it as his guess being the correct one.
“Give that to me, a child does not need such important things.”
“I’m in my 20s, I’m not a kid. Did losing every battle with Cale Henituse make you dumb or something?”
You swam back up to the rooftop where Paseton deliberately left an opening so White Star could snatch the document in your hands. Placing two hands on the edge of the tank, you hoist yourself up. Making it look like you’re trying to escape.
“Archie! Help me over here!”
The killer whale on the glacier looked at you and stood up to go help you. Just in time, you could see Sayeru snatch the document in Paseton’s pocket.
“It’s time for the missing prince to go home and fulfil his duties, no?”
“Ow! Let go of my hair! Go grab your own!”
White Star not only snatched the document in your hands, he also dared to grab you by the hair. It looks like he fully intends to drag you back home.
“That power is not here.”
“Power? What power are you talking about you bastard?”
You continue to struggle in White Star’s hold as he opens the document with one hand. Just when will Archie get here?
“...This is real. This looks like a real ancient text.”
The lunatic kept speaking to himself.
Sayeru, who heard that said lunatic, ordered the black mages to start casting the teleportation circle.
Okay, now you’re panicking a little. If Archie takes his sweet time getting to here you’ll be a goner.
“Hey! Give that back to me and let me go! Hwy are you even listening to me!?”
You frantically shout but White Star doesn’t say anything and just continues dragging you towards one of the teleportation circles.
“Oh no you don’t!”
“Took you long enough you stupid whale!”
“Is that how you speak to your saviour!?”
Archie snarled at you but you didn’t back down.
“Savior my ass! You sliced my beautiful hair!”
“That could’ve been one of your fins you brat!”
You two argued as you escaped from White Star.
“Are we not taking the mermaid with us?”
“We can get him another time. This takes priority.”
Paaaat!
Sayeru and White Star chatted as the teleportation circle did its thing and allowed them to escape the land of the Whale Tribe.
“My hair! Do you know just how hard I take care of it!?”
“It’ll grow back you crybaby!”
You and Archie are still arguing even as you arrive at where Paseton and the Whale King are.
“Are they always like this?”
Cale asked Witira after seeing your dynamic with the killer whale.
“I didn’t expect them to get along so well, my brother seems to have a headache though since the mermaid prince has been cursing more nowadays.”
Well, you and Archie really seemed to bond in your own ways so Cale lets the topic go. Instead, he focused his attention towards Witira and the approaching Clopeh.
“Are you okay?”
Paseton grabbed you from Archie so he could carry you in his arms. As soon as you were in his arms you rested your head against his chest. The movement was instinctual from how many times he has carried you.
No wonder why people mistake you two as a couple. Shickler personally thinks it’s just a matter of time before Paseton goes to him to say that his going to marry you.
“I was scared he was going to bring me back to that crazy place…”
You mumbled against the Whale Prince’s chest. The earlier spite you had now gone.
“I promised you remember? I told you that I won't let anyone take you away.“
“Yeah…”
Paseton stroked your badly trimmed hair. His gesture brings you comfort, you still feel a bit shaken up from earlier but being in Paseton's arms reminds you that everything is okay now.
If you asked your past self if they could imagine you feeling safe in the Whale Tribe Prince’s arm he’d probably look at you as if you’re insane.
And perhaps you are. But you wouldn’t want to change.

So it turns out there were a lot of things from S2 I was waiting to pass judgement on until I saw how they played out and...I ended up not thrilled about. And it's all these little things that keep bothering me.
Things I'm not happy with in OFMD S2:
-Jim and Olu feel retconned into not being in love. Like I know we want to talk about happy polycule but it feels like they aren't even very close this season? They were even more of a secondary ship than Lucius and Pete in S1 but we got essentially no good Jim/Olu stuff in S2. Instead we got the Olu/Zheng Yi Sao romance which on paper sounds good, but lacked chemistry. Especially from Olu's side. I feel like they kept repeating that "break in your day" thing cause they didn't have anything else. IDK weird weird decisions were made. I don't mind the Jim/Archie stuff at all but that was also not given any real romance time. They kissed and then I guess that was that?
-While on the subject of Zhang Yi Sao...why was she there? Like, don't get me wrong, I love her character and her inclusion in the show, but while the build-up in the first few episodes was great, then...they did basically nothing with her. Her entire plan was foiled by a moron in a split second and then..IDK she's now just riding on the Revenge and not even in charge? She's come way down in the world and I don't like it.
-Izzy dying. I don't mind the death scene itself, (though i wanted Izzy's friends on the crew more involved) but I think having him die shifts the genre and is disappointing in a way that feels unlike this show. more to be said obviously but not in this post.
-Speaking of that scene I grow more and more annoyed with Izzy saying "they love you, Ed." Not because it's not a great sentiment that would be narratively meaningful, but because it's NOT DEMONSTRABLY TRUE. Who loves Ed on that crew? Maybe Fang? There was absolutely no moments between Ed and crew after ep 3. They tolerate him for Stede's sake is all I can say. They love Stede. They love Izzy. And then Ed just leaves them and they are probably relieved.
-the way the central problem the whole season with Ed and Stede was communication but they never actually do anything about that, just declare victory.
-the way there was no climax or resolution with any antagonist in the last episode, they just barely escape, swear revenge like they're gonna head into battle, and then retire. Which makes ZERO sense and it bothers me SO MUCH.
-The lack of Stede and Ed costuming. IDK if it's because I've been writing a fic for a year centered around the clothing but like the show feels incomplete if they're not getting to dress up. I was looking forward to Ed wearing more than his leathers and we got a rice sack. This is entirely a personal gripe and not important but, yeah.
-Zero focus on the crew and no new info about any of them. I was really, really looking forward to getting more backstory, more personal info on characters like Roach, Frenchie, Wee John, but no.
And yanno, the thing is that I'm not unhappy with what S2 GAVE us. I like most of it. I love eps 1-6. Though 6 is showing the pacing issues badly. But what I miss is what we DIDN'T get. None of the stuff on screen was bad per se or couldn't have fit into a very excellent, cohesive season of TV. But I feel like all the connective tissue, all the thematic resolution, all the stuff that would have made it shine was missing.
Like they had a bunch of notecards of great scenes and filmed them but forgot to write the parts to connect them in a meaningful way? IDK this season feels a little like a first draft?
Not eps 1-3 though. I feel like they were perfect, and then they ran out of time/energy to polish the rest. (4-5 were also great, but they could have fit in with the rest better ultimately.)
I feel like people who are happy with this season are like 'we got this moment and this scene!' and that's great and cool and I also love that moment but I'm still left unsatisfied by the whole, yanno. Sigh.
#ofmd#ofmd critical#ofmd meta#my meta#I started writing this like thursday but then lost my computer#so yeah#I don't hate it but it's flawed...

Where Did The Time Go?
Agent Rossi-Reid
Anthology Masterlist
David Rossi x daughter!reader, Spencer Reid x reader, Criminal minds x BAU!reader
Summary: Rossi (eventually -Reid) goes on her first case with the team.
A/N: This is set pre S1E1. In that episode we find out that there is an opening at the BAU and that one of Gideon’s friends died in the blast (I’d imagine the other 5 agents were from SWAT, not the BAU). So Agent Archie Reeves is an OC that fills that spot. He’d be closer to Gideon’s age and probably a long time friend of his, but I imagine he transferred to the Quantico team after RR graduated high school and Rossi retired so he wouldn’t know her very well.
CW: typical criminal minds stuff
---
It was 3 AM when you got a call from Gideon, telling you to get to the BAU as fast as possible. It was like experiencing a strange form of deja vu- you’d never been called in the middle of the night for a case, but your childhood was filled with waking at strange hours to give your dad a hug before he left to save the world. You got dressed quickly, not bothering to put on makeup, grabbed your go bag and headed out of your apartment. Everything about it was different than when you were little, except the clicking sound of the lock on the door- that was still, somehow, the same.
The entire drive to Quantico, you felt your blood begin to rush. When you got into the elevator with Agent Reeves, you felt like you were about to jump out of your skin and your heart was about to beat out of your chest. The other agent smiled at you.
“So,” he drew the word out. “Are you ready to work your first case?”
“If we want to be technical, I’ve been working cases since I was about fifteen. This is just the first time I’m on the payroll,” you said, not looking at Reeves. It was true. As a teenager you used to procrastinate your homework by watching the other agents. A few times you got daring and would take a case file or two from someone’s office while they weren’t looking. They never did catch you.
Gideon was already there, of course, as was Hotch. They were sitting at the conference room table already, talking to JJ.
You weren’t sure what to think of the young blonde. She was added to the team at the same time you were, but of course she had been training to be the team communications coordinator while you spent most of your time working on files alone or working together with Spencer while Gideon advised the two of you. You’d only just met her last week and the two of you hadn’t had much time to talk about anything other than paperwork. She seemed nice enough, but she also reminded you a little too much of the mean girls in high school.
“Take a seat,” Hotch said as he looked over some paper. “Morgan is talking to Garcia. We’re just waiting on Reid to get here and then we can get started.”
You took your normal seat and then pulled out your phone, sending a message to your dad that you were most likely going to be out of town. He would know what you meant. You hoped he would be proud.
Morgan walked into the room with his usual swagger and sat down just before Spencer rushed into the room- looking slightly more dishelved than normal. It was a good look, you decided, when Spencer looked a bit bedraggled with his loose tie slightly crooked and his hair not gelled down as smooth as normal.
“Sorry I’m late,” he said and took a seat next to you.
“Let’s get started,” Gideon said, ignoring Spencer’s apology.
JJ began to present the case and for some reason, you couldn’t help but remember that she was older than you by about three years. You and Spencer wouldn’t have been the first very young agents in the unit- your dad and Gideon had been no older than 23 when they joined the BSU. But that was back before being a part of the BAU was something elite.
Spencer’s reason for being picked for the team was obvious, but the only thing obvious about why you were there was because you were a Rossi. You hoped that wasn’t the only reason.
JJ finished presenting the case, but it was clear that the team would need to be on scene. “Would you like to do the honors, Hotch?” Gideon asked.
“Wheels up in twenty,” Hotch responded.
---
The jet was really cool.
Like, really cool.
You sat next to the window and began to go over the case file. There were a few theories you had running through your mind, but there wasn’t enough evidence to bring them to conclusion. You knew that once the team got to the local precinct, could walk the crime scenes, and talk to more people the profile would become far more clear.
The rest of the team was talking, and you were listening, but you didn’t speak. It wasn’t in your nature to be quiet, but you figured that being on your first case called for taking a back seat. Spencer had just finished answering a statistics question when Gideon looked at you. “(Y/N),” he said. “Do you see anything?”
You thought about it for a second. There was one thing…
“There are a few behavioral conflicts,” you said. Just letting the words slip out of you created a fire in your belly- burning with the desire to prove yourself and your worth. “He chooses lower class women and his signature shows that he hardly cares about them, but he dresses them before dumping their bodies.”
“Why does that matter?” Morgan asked. Of course it would have been Morgan who questioned you. Hotch and Gideon had all known you for years, you could already tell that Reeves was more of a scoffer than a questioner, and Spencer was too timid to say anything.
“It’s something to keep in mind,” said Hotch.
“Alright,” Gideon said. “Spencer and Reeves go to the precinct. Hotch, you and Morgan go walk the second crime scene and (Y/N) and I will walk the first.”
You should have been relieved that you were paired with Gideon, but something about it was unsettling. You just didn’t know what yet.
---
Walking the crime scene was far different than looking at photos of them. The body was gone and the area was cleaned, but the feel and stench of death still lingered in the air; you wondered if it always would be, if the ground was forever tainted by invisible blood stains and the shadow of murder.
You and Gideon inspected the scene, holding up photos to try to tell what it was like. Gideon continued to ask you questions, testing your ability to read the behavior. You just hoped that he would correct you if you were wrong. You could make a fool out of yourself in front of Gideon- to him you would always be young and naive- but you didn’t want to make a fool out of yourself in front of anyone else.
When you and Gideon got back to the precinct the rest of the team was already there. You walked over to the evidence board where Reid was working on a geographical profile.
“I might not have a PhD in mathematics, but don’t you need at least three crime scenes to create a true geographical profile?” You looked at his handiwork.
“Yes,” he said, still concentrated on drawing some lines. “I just want to be prepared in case something else comes up.”
“Well,” Hotch said, walking into the room and tossing a file down onto the table. “We finally got the M.E. report.”
You abandoned Reid and his maps in favor of going over to the table to look at the new information. You had to wedge yourself around Morgan to get a look, but as soon as you saw it, you knew.
You didn’t even think twice about your words. “He’s got limp dick syndrome.”
Hotch choked on his coffee and began to snicker. You could see how hard it was for him to hold in his laughter as he brought a fist to his mouth in an effort to cover his smile. It was nice to see his serious demeanor crack. Even after all these years, you were still Rossi’s daughter who got distracted from her homework while watching (and pestering) young Special Agent Hotchner as he tried to piece together a profile.
“You-” he cut himself off and pressed his lips together before taking a deep breath to compose himself. Still, he couldn’t hide the smirk on his face. “Don’t say that in front of the local officers.”
“Okay, well then you can go tell Gideon.” You smirked as well. As he left the room to find the senior agent, Hotch still struggled to get his serious face back.
You turned back to the papers and began to look through them more thoroughly, when you felt someone looked at you. You turned to see Morgan and Reid looking utterly confused, seemingly at the events that just transpired. “What?” you asked.
“Hotch… laughed?” Reid said, though it sounded more like a question. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do more than a half-hearted grin.”
“I didn’t even think he had a sense of humor,” Morgan agreed. He lounged back in a chair. “So is there anything in the report we don’t already know?”
“He always stabs them twice, but one is always just done to inflict pain while the other one is used for the actual kill.” you explained. “It indicates impotence.”
Reeves walked into the room as you were talking. “How do you know it isn’t symbolic, or that he’s just bad at anatomy?”
You didn’t even bother to look at Reeves. Challenges only ever lit you up. “Because the one to the stomach is always done post mortem-”
“How do you know?”
“Lack of blood,” you snapped and slid the paper over to him. “Which is just basic knowledge on how the body works after death, but it’s also written in the report in case you want to see it yourself.”
Reeves gave you a look before going over the report. You wanted to stand by the evidence board with Reid and get your brain working, but Morgan was pacing the area as he explained something to the young genius that he probably already knew. You settled for busying yourself by reading over some of the detective’s notes, even though you’d read them all on the jet.
Soon enough, Gideon and Hotch entered the room and began to put the profile together. You watched and listened carefully, asking for clarification on a few things. Gideon even challenged you with a few questions, which you all got correct.
“Alright, half the officers that need the profile are here and the other half of them are across town,” Gideon said once he was satisfied with the information put together. “Hotch and Reeves, you wanna take it over there and Morgan and I will handle things here.”
Hotch gave his boss a nod and he and the other agent left.
“We’d better get started here,” Gideon said. “If we can canvas enough area we might be able to catch this guy before he murders a third time.”
You were familiar with a lot of things at the BAU, but this would be your first official time listening to a profile presentation. You stood next to Reid in the back corner, watching and listening as Gideon and Morgan relayed the information to the officers. As soon as they finished, you went back to the evidence board. Reid went back to the map again.
You wondered if it was a habit of his to try to stay in his comfort zone. You’d wanted to get your hands on every piece of information this case had to offer, but Spencer seemed satisfied with checking and double checking his quiet work, refining it. You knew that geographical profiling wasn’t your personal interest, but you figured that with Spencer’s intelligence he would want to be looking over and taking everything in too.
“Hey, Reid,” you called to him. You already knew the answer to the question you were going to ask him, but the Rossi in you couldn’t help but meddle with him a little bit. “Didn’t we study a case similar to this one last week?”
“Oh, uh- no,” he said, his voice timid.
“Are you sure?” you asked. Now you were looking at him. And he was looking at you as if you were going to eat him. Still, you raised your eyebrows, and crossed your arms, pushing further.
“W-we did the week before that,” he stuttered out, avoiding eye contact.
You sauntered toward the map and stood next to him. Spencer looked up at you briefly, but otherwise stood there, arms crossed, head tilted. “What do you remember about it?”
Spencer swallowed. “I-uh- it was pretty much the same except for the post-mortem stab wound was in a different location.”
“And the city was different,” you pointed out. “And the dump site locations, and the victim type.”
“Y-you’re right.”
You shrugged a shoulder, trying to get Spencer to relax. “Tell me what else was different.”
Spencer took a deep breath and began to relay details of the case. His voice stayed quiet and his body language closed off, but as he talked more and more you noticed a bit of confidence start to shine through in his eyes.
It was something you’d remember for later.
Spencer finished telling you about the case just as Gideon came in the door. “Come on. We’re all going back to the hotel to try to get some rest. Start with fresh eyes in the morning.”
This was one of those cases that were rare- the kind where there wasn’t any sign or signal that the unsub would kill soon, so you were supposed to actually sleep. But you didn’t want to.
You wanted this case solved and the unsub caught. But more than anything you wanted to stop feeling like you were doing nothing.
You allowed yourself 15 minutes for a shower and then laid down in bed, but still allowed your mind to work. You relayed the details of the case over and over again in your mind, wishing that you had Spencer’s memory. After a while, staring at the ceiling wasn’t cutting it anymore. You needed something to write with. You dug blank paper and a pen out of your bag and began to write.
Until this case was over, your days would be filled with sleepless nights.
---
After four days, very little in the profile had changed. The age range was narrowed down, the type of vehicle the unsub might drive, a few possible occupations he might have, but overall the profile was static. Without another body there was no way to complete the geographical profile. Gideon was talking to the local station about the team going home, leaving them with the profile to work on their own until there was more evidence or a change. The control level of the unsub was immaculate and it was entirely possible you’d have to wait months before any progress was made on the case.
You didn’t like it one bit. Running off about two hours of sleep and more espresso than one person should ever be allowed to have at a time, you dug through the evidence and the profile again and again, looking for some important bit that you had overlooked before.
“Are you trying to memorize this case?” Morgan asked.
“No,” you told him, not giving him an alternate reason why you were going over everything again. Unlike Morgan, you hadn’t been sleeping. You had been working.
“Well, then.” Morgan stood up. “I’m going to get some coffee. You want any, Reid?”
“No thanks,” Reid said quietly.
“Alright, pretty boy.” Morgan smirked and left the room.
You and Reid continued your futile work. The joke Morgan made about you memorizing the case wasn’t true, but if you had to look over the files one more time you might-
“Huh,” Reid let out a small sound from his place at the table. It was so small, you wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t spent so much time with him working on consults already.
You looked at him. “What is it?”
“Oh,” Spencer cleared his throat. “It’s nothing.”
“It’s something,” you retorted. You knew Spencer didn’t have it in himself to be sure about things in profiles that were purely theoretical. While training with him and Gideon, it was you who veered just far enough out of the box to find something interesting or odd that was always worth checking out. Spencer liked precedent. Spencer liked his box. “You can tell me, Spencer. It’s just me.”
Spencer hesitated. “The joke Morgan made… it made me think about how on the first day you had me tell you the details of the case we studied.” He stopped and looked away from you.
“Go on,” you encouraged.
“He didn’t dress his victims. He covered them and positioned them as a show of remorse, but he didn’t dress them.”
You blinked.
“On the jet you pointed out that the victims were all dressed,” Spencer said, his previous tone of hesitation starting to leave his speech entirely. “And we profiled that it was a show of remorse, but the extremity of it makes me think it’s possible that the unsub is even more remorseful than we thought. That could be why he waited so long between kills, too. We said it was because of his control level, but maybe it’s because the unsub feels so guilty about it that he has to take that long to recover- almost like it puts him into a depressive state.”
“That changes over half the profile,” Gideon said. He walked through the door, Reeves just behind him. “Any other evidence?”
Reid looked slightly like a deer in the headlights. He turned slightly towards you, but you shook your head. Spencer was the one who found it- he should be the one to present it.
“The women were both dressed in the same style,” he started, a little more quiet since he knew people were there. “We might be able to find out more about him through that.”
Morgan, who had joined by now, looked at you. “Alright, what style are our victims wearing?”
Internally, you rolled your eyes-just because you were the only woman in the room didn’t mean you would know, even though you did. “They’re dressed like middle-class, white picket fence mothers,” you told him. “It doesn’t line up with the victims' ages, social class, or occupation.”
“Let’s get to work then,” Reeves said, walking into the room and taking down the profile.
---
Spencer was right. It only took another 48 hours and a lot of digging on Garcia’s part to find the unsub, who felt so horrible he confessed in a fit of tears the moment Hotch showed him a crime scene photo. Just like the new profile had proposed, the unsub was a man in his late 50s in a state of psychosis, trying to recreate the woman he had loved many many years before.
Everyone on the team was amazed by Spencer’s breakthrough, and you were too, of course. Reeves and Morgan were praising him with bro-style pats on the back, while Hotch and Gideon stuck to simple phrases like “Excellent work” and “I’m impressed”. You stuck with words as well, but yours felt more real- “I’m proud of you”.
You sat at the back of the jet alone, looking out the window and wishing that you’d drank less coffee than you had. Your caffeine induced consciousness didn’t stop you from feeling exhausted. Sleep would have been nice, considering you’d gotten none the night before.
“Hey.” Gideon put a hand on your shoulder as he walked by. “You doing alright?”
“I’m fine.” You’d grown up with profilers. If there was anyone in the world that could outsmart them it was you, and the years of training to hide your tells and keep yourself cool didn’t fail. Gideon only nodded and walked to the other side of the jet.
With your gaze turned away from the window, you noticed Spencer peaking at you from over the top of his book. You caught his eye before looking away, knowing that he would take it as an invitation to come over if he wanted. Your last interaction alone with him had been quite intense. You hadn’t been trying to scare him, but even you knew that you could be a pusher and a fighter and a little too much at times.
And Spencer was almost the complete opposite.
He was so quiet coming to sit across from you that you almost wanted to make a joke about it, but your brain was functioning at half capacity and you weren’t going to embarrass yourself with sub-par sarcasm.
“Hey,” you spoke first. It seemed like with Spencer you always spoke first. You hoped that would eventually change.
“Hi.” Spencer looked down awkwardly at his hands. You stayed silent, watching him, your energy running low.
“You know,” he started, without looking up, “I wouldn’t have figured it out without you.”
You shook your head. “You’re brilliant, Spencer. You would have.”
He paused, thinking. You figured that Spencer was the kind of person who thought a lot, but the way he was taking the pause was more like he was thinking about his words and less like he was thinking of some complex theoretical equation.
“You’re not just you.”
Instantly, you were confused. “What?”
Spencer looked down again, and then back up at you. “When you encouraged me to tell you about what I had thought of, you said “It’s just me”, but you’re not just you.”
You smiled tiredly at him. “Thanks, Spence.” If you were the type of person to spill your heart and soul out to people, you probably would have told Spencer how much that meant to you; that it helped you feel a spark of worthiness inside for just a split second. How his words made you believe for only a moment, that you belonged on the team. But you weren’t that type of person, so instead you just said, “That means a lot.”
Spencer smiled awkwardly and leaned back in his seat. Suddenly feeling relaxed enough to rest, you closed your eyes and drifted off into a much-needed sleep.
---
“Someone get (Y/N) up,” Hotch said before exiting the jet. He knew full well that if he didn’t make a beeline down the stairs, he’d have to be the one to do it.
Reeves was quick to follow him. Morgan was always slow to pack up at the end of a case, having usually discarded his jacket, bag, papers, and CD player in various locations around the jet. Gideon and Spencer were almost done with a chess match, as long as things turned in Gideon’s favor for the fifteenth time in a row.
Morgan gathered his things and then took the opportunity to fluster Spencer a bit, but in Morgan’s defense it was for Spencer’s own good. “You heard, Hotch,” Morgan said as he leaned against the side of the jet. “Go wake her up, pretty boy.”
Spencer felt himself flush. “What? No! You do it. I’m in the middle of a game!” The high pitch of his voice gave it all away.
Gideon repressed a smile. “Check in three.”
At those words, Spencer got back into focusing on the chess match. Morgan sighed. That was Gideon’s subtle way of settling the situation, like a father ending an argument about who was responsible for doing the dishes that night.
Morgan. The answer was that Morgan was responsible for doing the dishes that night.
He wasn’t subtle in his approach to wake you, he simply turned, brought his hands to the side of his mouth and yelled, “Rossi!”
You snapped awake at the sound of your name being called, and looked to see that it was Morgan who called you.
“Come on,” he said. “We’ve got paperwork before we go home.”
You nodded and gathered your things, hurrying off the jet after him.
“Checkmate,” Spencer said.
Gideon looked down at the board to see that Reid had captured his king. Morgan’s reason for coming over to them had been to fluster Spencer, but hearing him call you by your last name, the way people had addressed your father for so many years, had flustered Gideon instead.
You were no longer the child that colored on the back of scraped reports, or the teenager that made it a point to bother new trainees by showing them that a 16 year old could put together a practice profile faster than they could, you weren’t even the college graduate that he’d written a card to, congratulating you on your accomplishments and wishing you luck on further adventures.
You were an adult. An agent. A profiler.
Where did the time go?
