What I Would Attempt If I Were Guaranteed Not to Fail
What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail. We all have dreams that we hold back on because of the fear of failure. But what if failure wasn’t an option? If I were guaranteed not to fail, the one thing I’d attempt is to start my own creative agency. This idea has always been close to my heart, blending my love for design, writing, and helping brands build their…

Unapologetically You
Pursuing Your Biggest Dream Against All Odds Title: Unapologetically You: Pursuing Your Biggest Dream Against All Odds Have you ever had a dream that seemed so audacious, so far-fetched, that it left you feeling vulnerable and alone? In a world where conformity often takes precedence, chasing your biggest dream and being unapologetically yourself can be a daunting endeavor. However, it’s…

i also want to add something about following your passion: listen to your burn out. i wanted to study animation, but i didn't. why? because i loved it so much i was making myself go so hard with everything i did and i was destroying myself. so i didn't, i pursued graphic design instead because i would be forced to learn things i wouldn't seek out on my own; things like Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, UX/UI, and more stuff I used to hate. now that I've graduated, it's been a lot less pressure for job hunting and doing work because yes, I did fall in love with design, but I don't think it's my twin flame like animation or illustration is. I know if I keep at it, there's a high chance I can get another design internship or possibly a junior design job. I can make some money, not a lot, but something, and then find my way back to animation when I'm ready.
Listen to your burn out and watch how you are. If I had done animation and then graduated and miraculously gotten an animation job, I think I would be mentally completely fucked up. But that's just me, and everybody is different. Do what you can, find the crossroads between the healthiest relationship with art and being okay. you got this. art school and your professors might make you feel bad if you don't do some grand job or do this amazing thing or whatever, but you don't want to be just a piece of art for the rest of your life, do you? you're a person, and you're more than the work you make, and you have value and you don't have to be the "best" at what you do. <33 it'll be okay.
advice id give for people in art school or studying art, especially those who care a lot and put their whole soul into something, or people who struggle to finish stuff.
the best thing to learn in art school is to know when to put your whole soul into something. sometimes you shouldn't, because it'll get hurt and you need to guard something for a little while until it's ready. and also time management. and how to deal with failure. and to find what you love to do! don't do what you're "supposed to do", be selfish as hell and try to make every assignment into something you're interested in. find a way to make it yours. okay, you have to make a painting of only white objects? add a cool white object you like. or have one suspended so it looks like it's falling. make it as fun as possible, and when you graduate you'll have a super unique looking portfolio!
and above all: you're doing great! i know it probably feels like you're in a hamster wheel and you can't stop running. but once you graduate you'll have so much more time. all the projects you couldn't finish, all the art you want to redo, now you can, and you don't have to worry about that one dumb professor or classmate. stay in touch with your cohorts, they're your teammates! <3333 love you!

Next time you're feeling unaccomplished for your age, just remember until you're over 36, you've spent most of your life as a child.
Until 50, you've spent less than half your life with a fully developed brain.
It's okay to take your time
It's okay to restart
It's okay to change
Life milestones don't have age limits
You're doing amazing going at your pace.

Regarding ST's merch, I think it's really obvious quality wise what merch the boys had a direct hand in and what merch is just RCA slapping ST's name and logo on something because they know it'll sell. The figurine and the constant HT/Spencer's drops scream RCA just trying to make a buck.
I think the big thing we can do as fans, or in this case consumers, is just be really picky about what merch we actually buy. Let sales numbers and the market talk for us ig (ew capitalism, but unfortunately that's how this works)
Things like the graphic novel? Hell yeah, support the shit out of that! We're out here Obtaining new, original stories made in collaboration with the band themselves, AND supporting art that aligns with the band's previously-curated brand image. Throw your money at that or hype it up online, since that's what we REALLY want to see from them. (even if it's too $$$ for many people. But, I get the sense that they wouldn't mind the pdf being shared with other fans lol. You can't tell me those nerds haven't read pirated manga/comics/books online before)
The low quality, soulless Licensed Products keep on coming because there's apparently a market for them. People will buy it just because it's ST, not because it's actually worth the money. As if it'll bring any value to their experience with the band. How many fans actually want a fuckin lava lamp, or any assortment of the hot topic merch that's just Vessel's face cheaply screenprinted on the front?
I think there's a lot of hype and market potential for their brand and likeness right now, and—for a corporate entity—it makes sense to flood the market like fucking Atlantic with whatever merch will sell. Voting with your wallet really does help. Not buying into the obvious cash-grab merch produces data that tells marketers that we're tired of it. It produces trend reports which indicate their current merch practices are becoming unprofitable to continue (oh, the horrors!)
Idk like I said last night, there seems to be a big disconnect between the band's history of being very selective with aesthetics/design, and whatever is going on right now. Personally, I'd much rather wallow in despair over sleeping through a relatively rare merch drop during European daylight hours. Because then at least the drop feels worth it, and fans who were able to buy merch will have a better, higher quality experience that actually aligns with their brand. Literally anything other than what we're seeing from them right now.
Sorry I just woke up not too long ago, so this might not read very clearly. I want to see my boys succeed and make a living off their art as much as anyone else, but surely there's a better way to support them.

i've been in a very "nostalgic for SpongeBob" mood lately and that's warranted a lot of reflecting on Baby Me being a Sponge fanatic and thinking of what she'd think of now. and i have to say that one of my favorite parts of doing what i do--and also the most stupidly niche--is that one of my first online hyperfixations i recall having was SpongeBob production music. i remember animating magical girl transformations in Flipnote to SPONGEBOB MUSIC. i remember feeling so smart researching all the songs and getting to hear them without any dialogue on top. very gratifying to 11 year old me. i was and am still very fixated on production music, and so i always get very excited when seeing uploads of these songs and spotting a screenshot of a scene i worked on among them. one of my favorite aspects of watching episodes premiere is seeing what music they added on top of scenes i touched. it's just neat how many facets my thankfulness for Doing What I'm Doing gets to reach. i'm never not thinking of how grateful i am to be doing what i'm doing
