Scientists develop high-impact materials for optoelectronic technologies

Every day, people are reaping the benefits of work by scientists and engineers to make more effective X-ray machines, computers, cell phones and televisions. Florida State University researchers are pushing the boundaries of those technologies and developing new more cost-effective and environmentally friendly materials for these devices. FSU Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Biwu Ma and his lab have spent years pioneering the use of hybrid materials known as organic metal halide hybrids, or OMHHs. These materials combine organic molecules with metal halide units, resulting in structures with easily manipulated properties that are used in solar cells, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and more. This fall, their work related to various aspects of these materials was published in three different scientific journals.

New materials and techniques show promise for microelectronics and quantum technologies

As phones and computers shrink in size, our need for data storage and transfer is growing. Electronic devices have been powered by semiconductors for decades, but as the push to miniaturize continues, there's a limit to how small semiconductors can be made. The next generation of handheld devices requires a novel solution. Spintronics, or spin electronics, is a revolutionary new field in condensed-matter physics that can increase the memory and logic processing capability of nano-electronic devices while reducing power consumption and production costs. This is accomplished by using inexpensive materials and the magnetic properties of an electron's spin to perform memory and logic functions instead of using the flow of electron charge used in typical electronics. New work by Florida State University scientists is propelling spintronics research forward.

I just learned more about what happened to Florida States quarterback and saw the play and omg it was bad. I feel so bad for him and that team. Being ranked number four and having the season he had been having and having an injury like that I can���t imagine what he’s going through. He’s definitely out for the year and most likely broke a bone in his leg. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, and his teammates. It makes my heart ache to see injuries like this happen.
