I don’t have a GSD, but I have a Weimaraner who will absolutely go the mat for me. (If you’re not familiar with the breed, they used to hunt large game and only relatively recently were they bred smaller, but I stg they remember. My last weim went toe to toe with a black bear and won).

But last month I got sick, really sick, almost had Mr61Below bring me to the ER in the night sick, and this dog PLASTERED himself to me (I was lying face down on the bed with my head on a pillow, just letting snot pour into the garbage bc otherwise I was drowning on dry land) and he actually growled when Mr tried to make him give me space.

I have known multiple women who had beautiful German Shepherds who loved them, tolerated their children and bit their shitty husbands all the fucking time at the drop of a hat. The one I remember most strongly was a friend of my parents when I was about nine and utterly enthralled with her beautiful shepherd named Watson who patiently endured my obsession. Specifically, I remember the husband cautioning my mom about it and my mom responding, “oh Jesus, Steve, we all know Watson only bites you.”

I’m not a responsible enough dog trainer to have a German Shepherd but I admire this trait so much.
