The power scaling for Slayer Magic in Fairy Tail is so fucking stupid, so here's my take on it:
Dragon Slayers and Devil Slayers are around the same level in terms of raw power, but an individual Devil Slayer or Dragon Slayer could easily be stronger depending on their experience and skill as a mage.
God Slayers are stronger than both Dragon and Devil Slayers, and their element cannot be consumed by a Dragon or Devil Slayer who wields the same element. No "emptying myself of all my fire so I can eat God Slayer fire" bullshit allowed.
Phoenix Slayers (not canon but they exist in my rewrite) are the strongest kind of Slayer. They're characterized by their regenerative abilities and unnaturally long lifespans, both of which make it difficult to put them down and get them to stay down. Upon death, a Phoenix Slayer can "revive" themselves by rising from the ashes (much like a phoenix). They're rare (as many phoenixes went into hiding or fucked off to another country when Acnologia was busy killing all the dragons), and only a handful of them work as mages around Fiore.
To be fair, I don't think any particular magic is necessarily supposed to be stronger than another magic, so much as having broader uses and being cast by stronger mages with more magic power to expend.
To be extra fair (which is about as much as we'll give Mashima for the next year), I also don't recall godslayers ever being established as stronger than devil slayers, but then again, until literally the last arc there was only one of those in the story. Presumably god- and devil-slayers can yin-yang bomb each other.
My personal headcanon was that godslaying (and by extension devilslaying) were corruptions of dragonslaying magic that Zeref invented. All the same functions, but colored black like his death magic and created to bypass dragonslayer immunity, and Zeref had an established antagonism with a god (Ankhseram) and a dragon (Acnologia) to justify creating it. It all made sense to me.
You're not wrong in that the whole "emptying myself of flames" stuff was bullshit, because that's not the problem Mashima established. Natsu, the problem was not "conflicting flames", the problem was that Zancrow's flames could burn you. Your fire wasn't the problem. To be honest, this was the perfect opportunity for a Natsu loss and someone else stepping in to handle a problem he couldn't, but then, this is Mashima, who recoils at the idea of problems Natsu can't solve.
Consider whether these mages need to have the slayer label attached in order to have and use magic like this. If it doesn't follow the basic slayer skillset, then why add to the bloat of how over-used that supposedly lost magic is?

Ep 105
This show will be the death of me. I'm not complaining, just stating facts.
.
"Destroying Fairy Tail is just another step towards our goal"
You started it, you ancient bastard. I hate that I really like him in Zero.
.
The subtitles just stopped working so now I have absolutely no fucking clue what Loke just said. He went "Lucy-" and told her something. I'll never know what that was. Learning Japanese is a slow process and I'm nowhere near anything.
.
Has anyone explained like anything to Lily at any point?? Is he just walking about this world with no idea about anything? Cause it really seems like all he knows is "Gajeel's a bro, I can probably trust people in Fairy Tail, take care of Gajeel cause he's dumb, take care of everyone actually, they're all dumb, and dark guilds are a thing I guess"
.
"So like this thing's cousin?"
"Igneel is not a gecko!"
NEITHER IS THAT THING, TF
.
"It wasn't people or dragons who gave birth to fire."
I sure as hell hope no one gave birth to fucking fire
"It was the gods!"
Falsehood. You're telling me a god just like fucking shoved fire into a dragon? Nah. Dragons had their own fire, you can take your god bs somewhere else.
.
LOKE, GRAY. WHY AREN'T YOU USING MAGIC? Y'ALL ARE KICKING HIM. WHAT THE FUCK. YOU TWO ARE FUCKING POWERFUL, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS
.
The subtitles are saying "meh" instead of "me" because of how he says it and I genuinely cannot take him serious
.
"Caprico... It has to be..."
DUDE, IT'S A GOAT MAN SAYING HIS NAME IS "CAPRICO" OF FUCKING COURSE IT'S CAPRICORN, YOU USED TO BE SMART
.
"This is a battle we will surely lose."
How inspiring.
.
"Take everyone and escape."
You're talking about fucking Fairy Tail, have you met your own guild? This is a group of the most stubborn motherfuckers on the planet. The main thing that would make me fit in in Fairy Tail if I were in Fiore is that I'm just as stubborn as those little shits. Natsu is scared out of his mind for the first time in a long time, and he's STILL standing up there to fight. He's too stubborn to back down. Just like everyone else.
.
If anyone ever fucking laughed at me the way Zancrow laughs, I would smack them in the fucking face before they knew what was happening, that's the most irritating laugh I've fuckin heard
.
Oh my god, he's still going on about cats and children and women? Mira, go Satan Soul on his ass, I beg of you
.
LISANNA, STOP TURNING INTO A FUCKING BIRD
And WHY is her half cat form that sexualised? For god's sake, she can turn into a massive ugly bunny or the weirdest fucking bird, but the second she's half cat she's meant to be sexy? I don't fucking think so.
.
"So I take it there's no need for me to hold back?"
MIRA, I AM BEGGING YOU, HURRY UP AND DESTROY HIM PLEASE
.
"I told you, that don't hurt"
It fuckin will if he keeps doing it
.
"God's flames do not burn-"
Then WHAT is the FUCKING POINT.
.
"Well, I'm gonna eat it!"
"Don't even try."
Well now he's definitely gonna try
.
"What's this? You're squeezing stronger??"
This is Fairy Tail bitch, tell them to stop and they just do it more spitefully
.
"I wonder which one of us is gonna kick the bucket first"
Fairy Tail do tend to leave their opponents alive, but keep this up and you will not follow that trend
.
"I guess there are some flames that take a little trick to eat."
You literally nearly killed yourself, but it worked, so I'll allow it.
.
"Dazzling Blaze of the Dragon God"
Holy hecc, Natsu
.
Sometimes I like to think of Fairy Tail as a game of D&D where Natsu is just that one player who's stats are like a little better than average but his rolls are always insane, so he just fucking destroys everything.
..... D&D AU? Would anyone read that?? Please give me feedback on these fic ideas, I'm begging you

Hey there, just here to say that I think your Character Hero Artifact idea is cool, I really liked the Emiya post, and I hope you're emboldened to share more concepts from this project in the future.
Thank you, I have been trying to come up with design ideas for many other heroes.
The weapons can take aspects from as many parts of the Hero's past as possible (as my Shirou Emiya weapon is connected with his UBW, Avalon, and the Fuyuki Fire).
For example, if I were to make a weapon/artifact for Natsu Dragneel I would of course take something for his Fire Dragon Slayer Element, but he also has the Lightning Fire Dragon Mode, Hellfire Dragon from eating Atlas Flame's Fire in the Grand Magic Games Arc, the God Slayer Flames that he ate from Zancrow, and if you include anime-only stuff you've got the Dark Regulus from Eclipse Leo. There is also his E.N.D. Demon stuff as well as the Book of E.N.D. and his Dragonification from the Dragon Cry Movie. Maybe even the fire swords he wielded in the Edolas and Tartarus arcs. His Igneel scale scarf might play into it as well. The issue is he is a very hand-to-hand fighter, he isn't a sword user and I don't want to just give gauntlets or knuckle dusters to everyone who does that.
If I were to make an artifact for Ben 10 I had two ideas.
A sword in reference to him wielding Ascalon. Swords are a classic hero weapon, and it'd be a lightning sword based on the sword of the Japanese Thunder god Take-mikazuchi who participated in the first Sumo match. Thunder God because Ben has a lot of electric aliens, and you should get the connection with the word Sumo. But the issue is, Ben is more a hand-to-hand fighter and prefers the big strong dudes (FourArms and Humangousaur).
My other idea was inspired by Raiden Tameemon's Mawashi of Flesh and Bone from Record of Ragnarok. Just a sash that wraps around the limbs to enhance physical attacks. Maybe go into the concept of Ki/Chi since like Mana it is a form of life energy but it is usually used in more of a combat setting so it'd fit a physical fighter like Ben while keeping it separate from Mana b/c the Ben 10 writers like to scream in our faces and shake our shoulders that "BEN DOESN'T USE MAGIC!"
Giorno Giovanna from JJBA I already had an idea for him, a Scarab shield similar to Mata Nui's Scarabax Shield from Bionicle. Kind of playing into his power where anything that strikes his Life constructs gets the attack reflected back at them. It'd also enhance his life powers to where instead of just making inorganic materials into organic/living things, he can change a living thing into another living thing. Power boosts for Jojo characters feel a bit weird since that show prides itself on having its characters be more tactical and being puzzle bosses rather than just being powerhouses though.
I might post the list of protagonists I am using for this idea, as I am sticking with protags from media I actually know about/can talk about.

Chapter 2
.
.
Pain jerked through her scalp as he tore her hair again, shaking her. The gold shackles weighed heavily on her wrists and ankles and she felt as if the collar was strangling her. Tears stood in her eyes and her throat tightened. She tried to defend herself tried to get away from him, but he shook her again and then pain struck her cheek.
"Don't even think about it, witch", Zancrow laughed meanly and the men around him joined in. And then she felt a wave of magic sloshing across the room. Her heart stopped for a beat, only to return faster. Her gaze fell on a tall, well-trained man. He wore dark red pants held by a black belt on his hips. A gold plate armour enclosed his broad chest, ending just below his pectoral muscles, protecting his vital organs. Leather straps held plate shoulders in place and his feet were stuck in plate boots. Warriors from different clans stared at him in horror as she watched how deep red scales pushed through his skin. Black smoke rose from his nostrils into the air and as his eyes changed into golden dragon eyes, Lucy's eyes widened. She didn't move a millimeter, just stared at him. He was still covered with scratches, mud and dried blood, his clothes were soaked with it and she realized that his actual clothes could hardly have these colors. The candlelight shimmered on his scarred, tanned skin, in his salmon-coloured hair, standing wild in all directions.
And then he set himself in motion. Men and women panicked as he approached and their hearts began to beat faster and faster. She knew this magic, had felt it all these years ago as a child. Her lower lip began to tremble as she saw the determination and anger in his dragon eyes as she noticed his muscles getting harder, more and more scales sliding through his skin as his hands turned into dark red dragon claws. And she knew this was a dragon just making its way to Zancrow and her. Hope sprouted in her and she trembled and breathed. Zancrow paid absolutely no attention to the sudden silence in the gigantic hall and again he shook her lightly and she didn't even notice him swinging again. Her gaze lay on the warrior and she just couldn't turn away from him. Only when she felt the movement in the air as he grabbed Zancrow's wrist did she realize that he had tried to hit her again and Lucy swallowed. The God looked confused from his hand to Natsu and his eyes narrowed. Magic surged around him and icy shivers glided over her back.
"Natsu what's this?" asked the man who had kidnapped her and the one addressed moved closer to Zancrow. They were almost nose to nose and a deep, threatening growl rolled from Natsu's lips.
"Let her go immediately", his voice was deep, distorted and seemed to have a double reverberation. Lucy's little hairs stood up and heat flowed through her body, her heartbeat accelerating even more and she stared at him with her eyes getting bigger. The blonde snorted and pulled up an eyebrow.
"And if not," he asked and she heard the challenge. It was dead silent and probably you could have heard a needle fall. And then it crunched. Zancrow growled in pain and Lucy realized that the Dragon Warrior had apparently crushed his wrist.
"Then I will skin you slowly and painfully. You and your family."
Nobody said a word and then Lucy felt the grip loosen in her hair. The pain subsided and she stumbled slightly forward, stepping backwards away from Zancrow. She didn't want him in her back anymore. Her heart was beating up to her neck and a whiff of fear was waving in her as her gaze wandered from man to man. Suddenly she was grabbed by her upper arms from behind and, before she could react properly, she was pushed behind a wall of broad backs. She blinked and confusion gripped her senses.
"Uh...," she began and then Zancrow's voice sounded again.
"What is your problem, huh? I captured her."
She swallowed and again icy shivers glided over her skin. Just the way he said that, as if she had no rights at all. Lucy bit her lower lip. And then everything went very fast. The loud penetrating roar of a clearly angry dragon echoed through the building. The earth shook and she saw the men standing in front of her tense up. She felt the quake of magic and her eyes widened in horror as she saw black and red flames filling the air. The cries of men and women filled the air. Children began to cry and scream in panic, dogs panicked and ran away. And she realized that these two warriors were fighting.
"Uh...", she began again and tried to step past the men, but was immediately pushed back behind the wall of men by a tall black-haired man with a wild mane.
"Stay right behind us, Bunnygirl," he said and she flinched slightly. Did he just call her a rabbit? Her eyes narrowed and magic surged inside her. Meanwhile her reserves were partly recharged. Then Levy's anxious screaming reached her ears and without hesitation Lucy climbed onto the table. If these guys wouldn't let her pass, she had to look where Levy was. She wanted to protect her friend. Fear reached for her heart. She let her eyes slide and stayed with Natsu and Zancrow for a moment. They fought each other, their bodies burned, flames raged around them. Natsu's skin was covered with red scales, big wings protruding from his back and horns had slid through the salmon pink hair. She stared at him with big eyes. He had been impressive before, but now?
The dragon avoided every blow, kick or fire salvo of the god. When her brown soul mirrors briefly stapled themselves on him, she flinched slightly. His skin had turned deep black, as if it had been burned. His cheeks seemed hollow, emaciated. Long claws were sticking out of his fingers and huge fangs were sticking out of his lower jaw. Pointed, deformed bones protruded from his back. Nausea rose in her as she realized this was a chaos fire god. Anyway, that would explain his appearance.
There was a panic scream reaching her ears and her head flew around. Just like of another dragon. Her gaze flew over the anxious faces as she saw Levy. One of Zancrow's men had grabbed Levy, who fought hard. When he struck, hot rage rushed through Lucy's body.
She clearly had enough that day. At first they were kidnapped by idiotic gods, they had been humiliated, beaten and Lucy clearly had enough. She loved her friends. They helped her, supported her and she didn't want to miss any of them. Her magic flickered and another quake rolled through the room. Lucy's gaze was fixed on Levy. Her magic lay in words and even though she was strong, Lucy knew others from her circle were stronger. The stranger God threw Levy on one of the tables, she saw Levy's panic, she could feel it. When he wanted to reach for the sparse slave clothes she had been forced to wear, Lucy released her magic. White light exploded.
.
.
.
A tremendous pressure wave raced through the room and time itself seemed to flow more slowly. Magic captivated everyone present in the room, holding women, children and men in place. Natsu twisted his face as he spasmodically turned his head. His heart raced, his muscles tense to tear. When his dragon eyes lay down on his mate, his breath stopped. She seemed to float in the air and shone in a bright golden light. Her hair and clothes swirled around her, even though no real wind swept through the room. And then his gaze fell on golden tendrils that seemed to wind around her head.
"I will not tolerate you continuing to enslave and abuse mine", her words had a double reverberation and were deafeningly loud. She stretched out her hand in a certain direction, pointing to a god who had just tried to attack a narrow little witch. He was ripped into the air, nailed to the wall, and as she bent her spread fingers a little, he screamed in pain.
That seemed like a starting shot for all the witches. Countless women and girls in slave clothes jumped up, tore themselves away from their masters and hurried to his mate. Natsu stared at her in awe and swallowed slightly. Then her gaze turned to Dimaria, who was flinching back slightly. She seemed to be able to move better than the others here under the magical pressure of the magic of this mighty witch.
"And you. You know better than anyone how all this feels. And if you weren't playing another important role against Hades, I would release you from your power here and now. If I ever hear again that a sorrow was inflicted on a witch, then you will learn why I am the chosen one. Is that clear?" she shone brighter in every word and to the horror and astonishment of all, the goddess sank to her knees and bowed her head before the blond witch without any further hesitation. In the meantime, countless witches had gathered at her feet and wept, laughed or worshiped her. Natsu was not stupid. He felt the tremendous power of his mate. She tickled him, lured him and he swallowed again.
She lowered her eyes to the witches at her feet and a warm smile full of love and kindness spread over her lips. Then an insecure voice rose from the praises of the witches.
"Mistress, mercy. Please. I-I...", she bent down to a sobbing witch and Natsu smelled that she was pregnant. Nausea rose in him as he smelled the smell of one of the more brutal gods sticking to her.
Lucy looked down at the witch she had spoken to, sank down to her and gently put her hands around her face.
"Don't be afraid. Tell me your wish", her voice was still full of power, but the witches were not constrained. The witch who had spoken was narrow, had a golden tanned skin, hip-length green shimmering hair and big purple eyes. Tears were stuck on her skin and she put one hand on the bulge of a little baby's stomach. Her lower lip trembled and she shivered all over her body. Lucy could feel her pain and rage was building in her.
"Speak, Bisca. Don't be afraid," Lucy said and wiped away the tears, stroking through the long, silky hair.
"He has... has A-A-Alzack on the day of our connection ceremony..." her voice failed and sobs shook her. Lucy pulled Bisca to herself. Dead silence lay over the hall and nobody dared to make a sound. Everyone knew what had happened to Bisca and any demon, dragon or witch could feel the pain about it. The pain of loss.
"Shhh, nothing can happen to you anymore. Speak, sweet witch child", Lucy's magic twitched around her and as one of the gods dared to flee, a breath of her magic blew through the air, grabbed him and rammed him so hard into the wall that the ancient, robust wood panelling burst under the pressure. A frightened whisper rose in the hall, but fell silent again. Bisca breathed deeply and swallowed easily.
"He... he killed Alzack on the day of our connection. He said... he... he wanted to possess me", more tears ran down her cheeks and pain wavered around her. Natsu's eyes widened and as his gaze wandered through the room, he noticed all those present punishing this one god with disrespectful looks. No one approved of such a thing. No ribbon of the soul should be torn. That was simply something no one dared to do. Something that simply did not deserve to be done.
Lucy put her forehead against Bisca's and pulled her a little tighter. The other witches also came a little closer, as if to comfort the crying Bisca.
"What is your wish, sister?"
"I carry the child of this monster ... I ...please ... I don't want it", she whispered and the air seemed so thick and heavy as if it could be cut. Lucy nodded slightly.
"You know, I can't kill a witch child. But I can change the father's soul. His ancestry," she said, and significant whispers rose from the others present. Magic began to become stronger.
"Do you want that? I can reach for his soul and then this god would no longer be the father of this child, but Alzack will," Lucy said and Bisca stared at her with big eyes. New tears bubbled up in her eyes and then she nodded. A light smile lay on Lucy's lips as she rose. The witches looked up at her in awe. The dragons and demons were not yet sure what to make of it and the gods were full of fear and stank of it.
"We draw a circle. Incense and the Relanthic Ritual," said Lucy, while her skin was still glowing, her power was still pouring out of her. Her gaze glided through the great hall.
"You can watch for all I care, but if you disturb, you get to know me properly. Dimaria. You were once one of us, help us with the ritual," her words were cool, with a threatening undertone that made the warriors swallow. Normally witches did not allow curious eyes at a ritual. That Lucy allowed, demonstrated power. Power over the other races present and power over fate. Natsu briefly looked over to his family, his clan and found that the dragons of his clan looked at his mate with respectful eyes. Dimaria rose immediately from her crouched posture and the other witches rose and began to clear tables and chairs out of the way.
"What do you need," she asked, and again a frightened murmur rose. Which didn't surprise Natsu. Dimaria was an arrogant goddess and hearing that she had been a witch, hearing how she submissively asked a younger witch what she needed really shocked everyone here.
"Incense, sacred chalk. We must draw a circle. An Arenthali," said Lucy and Dimaria bowed and set about the task of getting the said things. Which shocked the people here even more than it did anyway. Lucy joined Bisca again, changing her slave clothes with the waving of her hand into a white, floor-length robe of coarse linen.
And then Dimaria came back with chalk and herbs and the witches began to draw symbols on the last table that stood in the middle of the hall and on the floor. Herbs were burned in fire bowls and the scent of incense, thyme and lavender filled the air. And with every second Natsu could feel the power of magic rising in the air. It was as if it was electrically charged. While the witches were working, they hummed a melody he had never heard before, but he instinctively felt it was full of power. Sweat beads stepped on his forehead. The dragon in him didn't know whether to flee or stay from this mighty power to be with his mate. Natsu had the feeling as if he could not breathe properly.
On a wordless order, the witches began to line up, standing within the circle, which was not yet complete. A narrow, blue-haired witch kneeled with a piece of chalk next to the unfinished outer ring and seemed to be waiting for something. Lucy took Bisca's hand and led her to the table, helped her get on the tabletop, and Biska lay there on the tabletop. Lucy stood behind her head and then the blue-haired witch drew the last line. A shock wave raced through the room, and the witches fell silent. Magic waved through the air, became visible. And then Lucy spread her narrow arms and began to sing a deep, ancient song.
.
.
.
Lucy sang the spell they needed for this difficult and daunting ritual. The Relanthic Ritual was a ritual of change. One that needed a lot of energy, a lot of power. The witches had stepped into a gigantic ritual circle, which had a diameter of 10 meters. She felt the power of every single witch. Sweat beads stepped on her forehead as she stretched her power and her heartbeat began to beat faster and faster. She felt the souls of those around her and turned her eyes, shimmering golden with power, to Bisca, who had laid herself in the center of the circle. When she saw the breath of Alzack's old soul on her, she was filled with relief. Lucy stretched out her hand to the rest of his soul, stroking along the still existing ribbon of the two loved ones. Because even though Alzack had been killed, the bond of love still existed.
The other witches also joined in the spell, sang the words and more power flowed into the circle. She bent over Bisca and stroked her abdomen. A touch of magic surged and she could see the presence of the actual father surging. That was what she had been waiting for. She grabbed this presence and pulled. Bisca reared up, screaming in pain. And Lucy could understand it. It was a painful procedure. The witches around the table grabbed Bisca and held her as her body instinctively began to resist. This wouldn't hurt her child, not if she was fast enough. She pulled again, ripping the presence of the god out of the child. At the same time, she stroked over the remains of Alzack's soul, pulled his presence down to the child, and within seconds exchanged these two. Sweat streamed down her body and the dress she had given Bisca also stuck to the trembling body of the pregnant witch.
Lucy pulled magic around her, waving the spell faster and tighter. She sensed that she had to close the magic wound quickly. Her limbs hurt. She had maintained her full power for far too long. But she would do this here. So much was certain. She put a blessing on the still unborn child and felt Alzack's presence lay around it. The child accepted it.
"LHEDNAR!" she shouted and a suction like a whirlpool flowed towards Bisca and the child. Lucy watched the wound that had struck by her closing and then she smashed her palms together. The spell ended, the magic dried up. Silence lay over the room, no one spoke a word. Only when Bisca rose very slowly, sweaty, exhausted but with a broad radiance grin on her lips did Lucy let her magic rest. The shimmer that had been lying on her body the whole time ebbed away. The other witches beamed, smiled. Lucy lifted her eyes and met the dragon's one. She didn't know his name yet, but he had helped her. Dimaria cleared her throat. Gods rose and the witches around Lucy immediately seemed more tense again, going into a defensive position.
"I am sorry for what my younger race did to my old one. I forgot what my vote was. I'll make sure it never happens again," said the ashblonde goddess, bowing to Lucy. Whispers rose and a light smile covered her lips. Then the dragons and the demons moved in. A broad-shouldered dragon with long, red hair and a well-made armour of leather and gold bowed slightly to Lucy, who sat next to Bisca on the tabletop.
"Good evening, mistress. You probably don't know me. I am Igneel, king of the fire dragons. It was my son who helped you. Allow us to bring you and yours home," he said and she scrutinized him, her eyes narrowed. Levy approached her, touching her hand.
Lu-chan, the dragons helped us in the old war and this one helped you. But do you think we can trust them? Levy's voice reverberated in her head and Lucy looked at Levy waiting, thinking. The others looked at her waiting. Witches as well as dragons and demons. And she knew the witches would bow to her judgment. They had automatically recognized her for who she was. The role they would take once would be recognized and accepted immediately.
I am honest, I don't know. They didn't necessarily do anything to stop these kidnappings, it seems to me, gave Lucy back and her gaze fixed on Igneel.
"Why are you offering us your help now? Forgive me for not trusting you, but before you did not seem to have done anything to stop these kidnappings. We witches are not known to be the strongest fighters," she said and her eyes became lurking. She had little strength left, but she wouldn't admit it. If she showed weakness now, it would immediately destroy the respect she had gained and she wanted to avoid that at all costs. Igneel lowered his head and she swallowed. Dragons were arrogant creatures. Always very convinced of themselves and that a king bowed to her was something you didn't see every day.
"I am extremely sorry for this circumstance. Until tonight we knew nothing about it. Even if this does not diminish the inactivity", he had raised himself again and threw a glance over to the demons. A tall man in a dark, shaggy armour looked at the whole thing. His lips turned to a grim smile. The candlelight shimmered in the breastplate, in the deep dark hair.
"Gray, see to it that a group of our men accompany the witches back to the temple," he said, and a demon of slender, muscular form detached himself from the group of warriors. He wore black clothes, the black hair fell messy into his eyes, and a reddish sheen shimmered in the deep, dark eyes. Lucy didn't know why, but somehow he looked familiar to her. She was absolutely sure that she had never seen Gray before.
" Of course father."
Lucy pulled her eyebrows together slightly. She wouldn't just leave her sisters to someone she didn't know. That thought did not please her at all. Then her eyes widened in knowledge. Gray. This name! She blinked slightly and she looked a little closer at Gray.
"You wouldn't happen to know Juvia from the Lockser house," she asked and silence spread. She could watch Gray's redness creep into his cheeks and he cleared his throat slightly, looked to the side as his father raised his eyebrows, crossed his arms and then a wicked grin spread across his lips.
"Gray, looks like ya didn't told me something important, could that be?" His words didn't sound particularly enthusiastic, but the gloating grin on his face revealed that Gray would definitely only be allowed to listen to stupid sayings.
"I know Juvia, yes. She's my mate," he grumbled and rubbed his neck uncomfortably. The witches around Lucy giggled and she suppressed a grin.
"All right, I think under these circumstances I can entrust you with the company of my sisters. But rest assured that I will not tolerate should I hear that one of them has not arrived well," she muttered and magic flickered threateningly in her eyes.
"Girl, I like you. By the way, I'm Silver from Fullbuster. Clan leader of the demons of the north and one of the big nine," he said and introduced himself formally. She nodded slightly.
"Lucyanna from Heartfilia," she said politely. Then a threatening rumble rolled through the room and as she turned her gaze to the direction from which that rumble had just come, this one dragon caught her gaze again. He shoved his way through the collection of witches, dragons and demons and stopped in front of Silver.
"She's my mate, Silver. You have Mika," he growled and shivers ran down Lucy's back. Silver laughed slightly, grinned broadly.
"And? We only introduced ourselves. I knew her mother for a change. She comes all after her," he said and Lucy's eyes widened. She stared at the demon with big eyes. He knew her mother? Her heartbeat began to accelerate and she swallowed lightly. She could learn things about her mother! Anxiety surged inside her as she thought about this. Her mother had died shortly after her birth and she had never had the opportunity to get to know her. And yet even after more than 200 years she still felt the loss of it. And then her eyes twitched to the dragon. Wait a minute. Did he just ...?
"I am what?" she asked and her heartbeat accelerated again. Her throat was slightly tied together, the panic crept up in her, and as his gaze staked on her, she could see the devotion and possessive feelings of this dragon towards her in his eyes. It literally took her breath away. And without any hesitation he overcame the few steps that lay between them. A warm, rough hand lay on her left cheek as he bent over her and pressed a kiss on her lips. It was only a short, almost chaste kiss, but Lucy was frozen. She couldn't get a sound out, could only stare at him while desire, devotion and a deep, honest promise lay in his dark, almost black eyes.
"You are the mate chosen by fate for me," he said and she just stared at him.

Information
Apperance;
Natsu is a lean, muscular young man of average height with a slightly tan skin tone, black eyes, spiky pink-colored hair, and has abnormal sharp canines; Natsu has a scar on the right side of his neck, hidden by his scarf.Following his intense battle with the Rogue Cheney of the future, Natsu gains a cross-shaped scar on the left side of his abdomen, a result of the two fatal wounds the man dealt to him during their altercations.[12] He later attains a new scar, this one being a jagged blemish on his right cheek, which he gained following his battle with Zeref. Natsu's guild mark is red and is located just below his right shoulder
Natsu's main outfit consists of a sleeveless, gold trimmed, black waistcoat, often left open and untucked, exposing his bare chest, a gold trimmed, black cloth around his waist that reaches his knees, held by a leather brown belt with an oval-shaped silver buckle, white knee-length trousers with black ribbon ties, a thick black wristband on his left wrist, black open-toed sandals and the scale-patterned scarf he received from his adoptive father, Igneel. He has also been known to wear a rolled up comforter strapped across his back, though he rarely carries it in battle.
Personality;
Natsu is carefree and reckless in nature, and, despite his consistent brawls with the other members of Fairy Tail, he is a fiercely loyal and protective friend. He is willing to go down fighting for his friends, regardless of how futile it might seem. Natsu has a straightforward mind, and often tackles issues with a "hands on" approach. His solution to problems often involve violence. Even when disrespected or faced with obvious hostility, Natsu rarely ever reciprocates the feelings, and often forgoes grudge-holding. He did, however, for a short time, hold a grudge against Jellal Fernandes, but eventually forgave him and considered him an ally. He occasionally shows compassion for his enemies, such as when Cobra was betrayed by Brain. Natsu rarely exhibits any perverse tendencies towards the opposite sex, there only being two noted instances. The first is seen prior to the Grand Magic Games, when he is seen trying to peek, along with several other of his male Guild mates, on the women as they bathed. The second is when Lucy comes crashing into him while nude, and he stares at her body, even groping her breasts for a moment.
Natsu continuously tries to prove his strength to others. At various points in time, he has challenged Erza, Laxus,Mirajane, and even Gildarts (in short, all of Fairy Tail's current S-Class Mages), to fight him, albeit, he was beaten every single time. Despite his losses, Natsu bears them no ill will, as he considers everyone in the guild to be his family. He demonstrates this attitude even towards former enemies. Natsu has even gone as far as defending Laxus from being expelled, despite his attempt at taking over the guild.[35] Due to his reckless nature, Natsu's fights usually ends with widespread destruction. Natsu's love of fighting has allowed him to develop a rather strategic mind, helping him to, on various occasions, find weaknesses in his opponent's techniques, or simply weaknesses his opponents themselves possess. Natsu has also defeated his opponents with pure wit, rather than brute strength. Natsu, befitting his recklessness and love of fighting, never backs out of a fight.
Natsu was very close to Lisanna, and, because of this, after her supposed death, no one in Fairy Tail mentioned her out of respect for his feelings. However, after Lisanna's return to Earth Land from Edolas, this is no longer the case.
As a Dragon Slayer, Natsu suffers from motion sickness. Natsu becomes sick from riding on any form of transportation, even if the transportation happens to be other people, as shown when he was carried by Lucy. This, however, does not apply to Happy,[40] as he considers him family, not transportation. Natsu can become sick from looking at, or simply thinking about, any form of transportation. In spite of his naturally dense nature, Natsu is quite perceptive and understanding of his friend's feelings. After his battle with Gildarts during the S-Class Mage Promotion Trial, Natsu came to understand and accept fear, and has used this acceptance to help his guildmates and himself emotionally grow. Prior to this event, Erza’s wrath (albeit for comic relief), transportation, and the Magic Council were the only things that Natsu feared.
Magic And Ablities
Fire Dragon's Roar (火竜の咆哮 Karyū no Hōkō): Natsu's signature Dragon's Roar in which he quickly gathers and releases a large quantity of flames from his mouth at his target. In X792, Natsu's mastery over this spell allows him to create a continuous stream of flames that appears as a wall of fire across a field.
Fire Dragon's Claw (火竜の鉤爪 Karyū no Kagizume): Natsu ignites his feet in flames, thereby increasing the power of his kicks. The flames can also be used for jet-propulsion purposes.
Fire Dragon's Iron Fist (火竜の鉄拳 Karyū no Tekken): Natsu engulfs his fists in flames and punches the target. While he was wearing a cat mask, Natsu renamed this ability Cat Fire (猫ファイアー Neko Faiā)
Fire Dragon's Wing Attack (火竜の翼撃 Karyū no Yokugeki): Natsu rushes towards his target and grabs them, before subsequently setting hands ablaze, sending them flying.
Fire Dragon's Sword Horn (火竜の剣角 Karyū no Kenkaku): Natsu lights his entire body ablaze and headbutts the target at a high speed.
Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame (火竜の煌炎 Karyū no Kōen): Natsu ignites both his hands in flames and then brings them together, creating a fiery explosion. In the anime, rather than generating an explosion, Natsu creates a large fireball to throw at his enemies.
Fire Dragon's Flame Elbow (火竜の炎肘 Karyū no Enchū): Natsu creates a stream of fire from his elbow, propelling him forward and increasing the strength of his punches.
Fire Dragon's Crushing Fang (火竜の砕牙 Karyū no Saiga): With his hand lit ablaze, Natsu swipes at the target in a claw-like fashion, burning them.
Fire Dragon's Grip Strike (火竜の握撃 Karyū no Akugeki): Grabbing his enemy and supporting his arm with his other, Natsu blasts the foe at point blank range.
Fire Dragon's Roasting Bath (火竜の湯沸かし Karyū no Yuwakashi): Natsu engulfs his entire body in flames to heat up the surrounding area. This is powerful enough to make water reach scalding temperatures.
Crimson Lotus: Fire Dragon's Fist (紅蓮火竜拳 Guren Karyūken): Natsu rapidly punches his target, with his hands lit ablaze, creating a fiery explosion after each subsequent contact. Such a spell was shown to be able to defeat Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer, who, at the time, was utilizing his Iron Dragon's Scales, and destroy the entire Phantom Lord Guild Building. In the anime, Natsu also used this spell to defeat Erigor.
Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade (紅蓮爆炎刃 Guren Bakuenjin): Natsu swipes his arms in a circular fashion, creating a powerful, and highly destructive, torrent of flames that barrages his target. Natsu habitually uses this spell as a finishing move, having employed against Laxus Dreyar at the end of their battle, used against Gildarts Clive as a finisher, which, notably, caused the mighty Mage to take a few steps back, and once more against Sting Eucliffe and Rogue Cheney, with which he completely overpowered the two, who were in Dragon Force, defeating them
Dragon God's Brilliant Flame (竜神の煌炎 Ryūjin no Kōen): An alternate version of Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame, Natsu engulfs one hand in the flames from his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic, and the other in flames from Fire God Slayer Magic, and brings the two flames together, generating a highly destructive blast that is capable of destroying a large area, and defeating Zancrow, a member of the Seven Kin of Purgatory in one hit.
Planetary Flames: Exploding Flame Blade: An enhanced version of Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade. After consuming the core of Eclipsed Celestial Spirit King, the user ignites their fists with fire, as well as the aforementioned consumed energy, and then throws it towards their desired target, creating explosions upon colliding.

Lucy the Reaper
Summary: Being Natsu Dragneel’s reaper was always difficult considering he got himself into deadly situations on the daily. However, Lucy finds that she doesn’t mind watching over his soul. In fact, she realizes she may enjoy it a little too much when she is willing to defy all of the laws of her kind in order to save it.

“Oh, I can’t watch this,” the blonde moaned, burying her head in her hands, causing the hooded cloak that she adorned at all times to almost completely obscure her body.
Her companion, who was watching the scene play out in front of them with an entirely different reaction, chuckled lowly. “I really think this is it, Lucy. The flaming idiot is really gonna die this time.”
Lucy chose not to respond to Gray’s (probably accurate) take on the events unfolding in front of them, internally cursing her luck instead.
Of all the humans in all of Earthland that she could get stuck with reaping, it had to be Natsu Dragneel, the pyromaniac with a penchant for getting himself into trouble.
It wasn’t that she didn’t like himjust the opposite really. She found his easy smiles, bravery, and dedication to his friends to be all extremely admirable (and though she would never admit it, extremely attractive) traits. But when one was tasked with guarding the soul of a wizard who was a member of a guild that constantly found itself in deadly situations, and said wizard always managed to get himself at the front of the fight, well… Lucy found her job to be very difficult, to say the least.
At the sound of another loud crash and a deafening roar, Lucy was forced to return her attention to what was happening beyond the veil between her world, where she was supposed to watch over her charge as his guardian until his soul was ready to make the journey between their worlds and beyond. She immediately cringed when she saw Natsu’s prone body being flung back from the mage he was fighting, a crazy-eyed blonde with a penchant for cackling and an affinity for fire similar to Natsu’s. Lucy assumed that’s why he was having so much trouble with this particular fight—he had never faced a fire mage of such a caliber before, and Lucy worried that he may be more powerful than her Bonded after all.
“Relax, Lucy,” Gray said, flinging an arm around Lucy’s shoulders in what she supposed was an attempt at comfort, though his nonchalant words only set her more on edge. “He’s been in tougher fights before.” When she merely gave him a dubious look, he shrugged and continued. “Okay, maybe he hasn’t been stuck on an island with a bunch of crazy strong wizards all hell-bent on destroying Fairy Tail before. But it doesn’t really matter. If he dies, he dies; and you then do your job and carry his soul beyond the Gate. And then you’re able to move on as well. I’m sure it won’t be so bad.”
Lucy loved Gray, she really did. He was one of her closest companions as they were often able to watch over their bonded together since they were a part of the same guild. In fact, he was really her only friend besides Jellal, at least whenever he decided to actually show up. (Erza Scarlet got herself into enough deadly situations that Jellal’s presence should be near constant, yet his appearances during guild-wide crises were few and far between. Lucy had to wonder if that masked man with a similar facial tattoo who would randomly pop up in Earthland was at all related, but she would never rat Jellal out by stating her theory aloud.) However, Lucy and Gray did disagree rather decidedly on one point, and that was their bonds.
Lucy probably watched over Natsu more than was strictly necessary. They were only supposed to be present and ready if their bonded were in mortal danger, but Lucy found herself watching Natsu almost constantly. The time he spent with his friends at the guild, the fishing trips he took with his exceed companion, Happy, all of the big moments of his life.
She was born for him—that’s what it meant to be Bonded. They grew together and would continue to do so until Natsu’s time on Earthland expired, and then Lucy was free to do whatever she wanted beyond the Veil. This was a time many reapers coveted and looked forward to, because freedom without responsibility was something that was almost unanimously desired by all creatures. But Lucy was different, because Lucy found her happiness not in the times where she didn’t have to watch over and guard Natsu’s soul, but in those that she was watching him. What she desired wasn’t freedom, but the kind of love and joy that Natsu was able to experience in his world with his guildmates and friends. So she found herself living vicariously through his adventures and she couldn’t have asked for a better soul to be bonded to.
But that was a dangerous thing. Despite their mandate to protect the souls of their bonded while living on Earthland, and from any vicious creatures they may encounter on their journey to the afterlife, they had a clear rule that forbade reapers from developing any sort of feelings for their counterparts—whether that be friendship, envy, or love. This was normally not a problem for reapers, as a majority only saw their bonded as their job and knew that it was the one thing preventing them from retirement. They did their job and protected their souls, of course, but it was out of a sense of duty rather than a desire to actually help.
Lucy, as previously stated, was not like other reapers though.
She scowled at her raven-haired friend and shook his arm off. “It’s not his time yet,” was all she said, because it was all she could say without giving herself away.
Gray rolled his eyes. “You don’t know that. I’m honestly surprised flame-brain has been able to survive this far. Your job is one of the hardest I’d ever heard of. I’d be relieved if I was you.”
Lucy knew that Gray’s words shouldn’t upset her. Because they were true, and because it was a sentiment held by most reapers and that Gray was playing it safe by expressing that. However, she had a feeling that he didn’t necessarily hold that viewpoint.
“Shouldn’t you be watching over Juvia right now? I thought she got into a pretty rough fight with that crazy pink-haired girl?”
Lucy tried to hide her smirk when Gray immediately tensed. He tried to play it off by shrugging and replying steadily, “She’s safe, for now. She’s unconscious back at base. The demon woman is watching over her and the other injured.”
Gray was much better at hiding his emotions, Lucy knew. To any outside ears that may be watching over their work, it would seem as if he didn’t care at all what happened to the beautiful water mage. But Lucy knew better. It was in the glint of worry in his midnight blue eyes and the way he said “she was safe” rather than “her soul is safe.” But Gray knew what the rules were as well as Lucy, and he didn’t have her innate optimism or hope for a life outside of reaping.
“I just came to check out how the idiot is faring in all of this and then I’m heading back.”
What he really meant was I came to make sure you didn’t do anything stupid.
“Well, it doesn’t look too good, but I’ve got a handle on things.”
I know, I won’t. You can go back to her now.
They shared a look of understanding before Gray gave her a small smile and left to return to wherever Juvia was on the island.
Lucy heaved a sigh of mingled annoyance and distress before returning her gaze to her dragonslayer and his battle. He was standing again, much to Lucy’s relief, and had his back to her as he faced off against Zancrow.
Natsu seemed to be faring better now that he had figured out that he wasn’t able to consume Zancrow’s flames and was currently fighting back in true Fairy Tail fashion. Lucy couldn’t resist smiling softly—Fairy Tail was a truly powerful guild, but that wasn’t what made them special. It was the spirit with which they fought, something that Lucy found incredibly inspiring. If she were ever able to join a guild, it would be Fairy Tail. The thought of finally having a family, a place where she could belong, was ridiculously enticing. But it was a reality that Lucy knew could never be.
“Fire Dragon Brilliant Flame!”
Lucy’s attention was once again riveted on Natsu at his yell, and she gasped in surprise at the searing heat she felt once his magic clashed with Zancrow’s. Their magic was truly impressive if she was able to feel it through the veil that separated her from him. She found herself stepping back from the oppressive heat, realizing she was watching the fight too closely anyway. She looked behind her when she heard a young voice shout a fearful warning at the pinkette, and was surprised to find the little Sky Maiden, Wendy, being carried away by Happy and Carla. Lucy frowned, concern gnawing at her. Wendy was a dragonslayer, yes, but she was too young and inexperienced to be dealing with such a thing. Lucy found a little comfort in the fact that Mest wasn’t nearby, hoping that meant that Wendy wasn’t in as much danger as she feared. But then she harshly admonished herself—as much as Lucy liked the kind, blue-haired girl, she wasn’t the one she was bonded too. She shouldn’t care what happened to her.
Lucy gasped, her eyes going wide when she turned back to Natsu just in time to see Zancrow swallow Natsu’s fire dragon roar. That was one of Natsu’s most powerful attacks, and it had done nothing.
Actually, no. It was worse than nothing.
“Natsu!” Lucy shouted in warning, though she knew it would never reach him. It was too late anyway.
“Flame God’s Bellow!”
Natsu cried out in surprise when he was thrown from the cliff, and Lucy found herself frozen in fear for a moment. But then she felt it, the strong pulse of Natsu’s soul where it was tied to hers and she breathed a sigh of relief. She should have known it would take a lot more to hurt her dragonslayer.
She raced after him, relieved to find him only a few minutes later, wandering at the edge of the cliff.
“Man, that guy’s hardcore,” he was saying, and Lucy couldn’t help but roll her eyes. What an understatement. “It’s been a long time since fire’s felt hot to me. Wait… where the heck am I?!”
He paused then, turning to look right at where she was standing a few steps behind him and to his left. Lucy froze, not even daring to breath as it appeared that he was looking directly at her. She waited to see what he would do, what he would say—
“I know that smell!” He suddenly gasped, making Lucy jump just before he ran right through her.
Lucy groaned and shook her head, frustrated with herself and with the situation. She knew that he couldn’t see her. That he would never see her. She may have been standing just a few feet beside him, close enough to touch him in a different reality, but the veil between their worlds was akin to a fluid one-way mirror. Lucy could move freely across his plane of existence, but she and the other reapers could only see, not be seen. The humans of Earthland were ignorant of their existence and the role they played in their lives, as they always would be.
One would think Lucy would have learned by now, but if there was one thing she had an abundance of in her modest life as a reaper, it was hope that one day Natsu would see her, just so that she could be a part of the incredible adventure of his life for even a moment rather than being stuck in her oppressive existence as a creature of the In-Between.
After collecting herself, she turned to follow Natsu only to gasp. He was crouched above the master of Fairy Tail, who appeared to be gravely injured. Things were worse than she thought if Makarov Dreyar the Wizard Saint was in such a dire condition.
“Natsu,” she heard him rasp as she neared the scene cautiously. “Natsu, listen. The chances of use defeating Grimoire Heart… are nil.”
Lucy crouched next to him, mirroring Natsu on his other side, but felt her stomach drop and bile rise in her throat. Things were much worse than she thought indeed. Could today really be the day…
“You must be out of your mind right now! The Gramps I know would never say something like that!”
“You’re injured my boy,” Makarov interrupted, ignoring Natsu’s claim. “Who did that to you?”
Lucy drowned out Natsu’s loud declarations of violence upon Zancrow, trying to figure out what she should do. She was essentially powerless in this situation. If Natsu were to die on this island with his friends, she was merely required to protect his soul and take it to the afterlife. But the thought of Natsu, her one, constant companion throughout her miserable existence as little more than a ghost made her sick.
She clenched her fists and drew a deep breath, her amber eyes hardening as she raised her head and looked upon her Bonded with a new resolve. She was charged with protecting his soul, and that was what she would do, consequences be dammed. She just wasn’t sure how—
A loud crash and the cracking of earth sounded to Lucy’s left and she whirled around to face the threat and saw Natsu do the same out of the corner of her eye.
“Well, well, looks like Master Hades did a number on you, eh Makarov?”
It was Zancrow again, cackling and hopping on his toes in some sort of eager dance.
Lucy’s perfectly arched brows furrowed. Fairy Tail had the strangest enemies, that was for sure.
“He’s the one who did this to you?” Natsu demanded, not even sparing Master Makarov a look as he stood shakily.
“Let it go, my boy!”
“I ain’t backing down,” Natsu assured, though anyone could hear the tremble in his voice, but Lucy, who likely knew him better than anyone despite never actually speaking to him, saw the sweat beading on his forehead and the terror in his eyes as he faced Zancrow and felt her breath catch in her chest.
He’s afraid, she thought, watching her Bonded tremble ever so slightly where he stood. Natsu had faced many enemies during his tenure as a fairy, but never had he faced one with such fear in his heart. If she wasn’t already aware of it before, she knew then that this was a fight that even Natsu wasn’t sure he could win.
Zancrow was taunting Natsu ruthlessly, getting sick pleasure at the sight of the fear he had caused in the boy. Makarov was pleading with Natsu to run, to find the others and get off the island, and Lucy found herself praying to any god that would listen that he would just this once do what he was told. But Natsu was stubborn and loyal until the end, and she knew that he wouldn’t leave his nakama behind. And even if he did, even if Fairy Tail did make it off the island, she had a feeling this Grimoire Heart would follow.
She was brought out of her internal conflict when Natsu’s familiar flames surrounded him. “I ain’t tremblin’ because of you,” he growled at Zancrow. “The only thing that I’m afraid of right now is that someone else will do in the jerk that beat up Gramps before I get the chance to get a few good licks in.”
Lucy reeled back as the heat became unbearable once more when the flames stoked around Natsu even higher. She gasped when she saw the gleam in his eye and the resolve on his face—her Natsu was back. “You’re gonna pay. I won’t let you guys get away with this!”
His head snapped up and he finally locked eyes with his opponent, and Lucy smugly noticed that the manic gleam in Zancrow’s eyes and his strange swaying movements faltered slightly at the sight. “I’ll take down Master Hades, and I’ll do it with my own two hands!”
Zancrow was suddenly in Natsu’s face, and they were fighting once more. Lucy was enthralled as she watched black and red flames dance across the clearing, hitting trees and other objects in their path more often than they actually connected with each other. Natsu seemed to be holding his own and Lucy was just beginning to think she may have overestimated Zancrow when he captured Natsu in his divine flames.
“You should quit fightin’,” the manic blonde taunted Natsu, the psychotic gleam in his red eyes ever present. “’Cause once my blaze has got ya, there’s no getting out until you’ve been turned to ash!”
“Natsu!” Lucy cried desperately and rushed towards where Zancrow was torturing him in his fire. She looked up at him helplessly as he cried out, and felt the overwhelming need to do something, though she couldn’t figure out what.
If only she could get through the Veil…
When Natsu’s cries rose in pitch, she decided. She wasn’t going to idly stand by and watch her Bonded die if she could help it, and she would gladly pay for it later if that was what was required.
She had never heard of a reaper breaking through the barrier between their realms before. They were only supposed to be able to cross over briefly to retrieve the soul of their Bonded when they died, but Lucy figured now was as good of time as any to try.
She stepped back from Natsu’s pained form and his crazed captor and closed her eyes in concentration, blocking out all sound from beyond the Veil. She took a deep breath in, extended her right hand, and summoned her death scythe, which slowly formed in a cloud of black smoke around her hand, extending and elongating into the powerful weapon of a true reaper. Lucy’s eyes opened, amber orbs determined as they focused on the veil before her until it was all she could see. Then, with a mighty cry, she swung her weapon in a perfect arc, tearing through the Veil.
The first thing Lucy noticed was she smell of flames and burning flesh as she passed through. She looked around, eyes wide with wonder as she made her first step onto the packed dirt of the ground, noticing how much more vibrant the sight, smells, and sounds of their world were from this vantage point. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t dared to experience this kind of life before.
The sound of a pained yell reminded Lucy of her purpose here and she snapped to attention to find Master Makarov with Zancrow in his grasp, lit up in flames and clearly hurting the elderly man. She moved to aid him when she heard Natsu scream.
Makarov was forgotten in the fear that the sound of Natsu screaming caused, so clear and near to her now that she was in the same plane of existence as him in a way that she had never thought possible before. Lucy whirled around to find that he had gone limp in Zancrow’s flames. She froze, fearing that she had been too late to save him after all, when she saw him move. And then he was doing what Zancrow had boasted as the impossible—he was eating the divine flames.
“No!” Zancrow protested, as if reading her thoughts, “A dragon hunter shouldn’t be able to eat my flames!”
“I get it now,” Natsu grunted, rubbing at his mouth as the flames around him disappeared fully. “I had no clue there was a special trick to eating certain types of fire.”
Lucy could only stare at him in shock, taking in his collected expression that gave no hint to the torture that he had been experiencing only moments prior. His hair was more richly colored now that they were on the same side of the veil, and she found herself entranced by the determined look in his obsidian eyes, though her gaze quickly wandered across the rest of his body (checking for injures, she justified to herself), and blushed as she noticed the firmness of his muscles and the way he carried himself as if he could take on anything. She realized she should have known better than to think that Natsu wouldn’t prevail—he didn’t need her. He never had. She only had to have faith in him.
Her inner berating of herself was violently cut off when Makarov suddenly threw Zancrow through the air and raged, “How could you be so foolish Natsu! Do you want to DIE?!”
“Of course I don’t Gramps. And I won’t let anyone else either. No one’s dying—at least not on my watch anyway. We’re all gonna make it back home—to Fairy Tail!”
Lucy could only watch from her position behind Master Makarov, seemingly still unnoticed for the moment, as Natsu roared, red flames encompassing his right hand and black in his left. “Dragon divine flames—come together to become one! Dragon God, Brilliant Flames,” he cried, leaping at Zancrow and delivering the final blow.
Lucy and Makarov watched Natsu with twin looks of awed disbelief on their faces as he panted, attempting to catch his breath after such a stunning feat. It took Lucy only a moment to come out of her stupor though, and she decided to return to her realm before anything too cataclysmic happened now that she realized that Natsu had never needed her help after all.
She was just about the step back through the still visible tear in their realm when she heard a voice she knew only too well shout, “Hey! Who the hell are you?”
She froze, turning slowly to face the dragon slayer with wide, panicked eyes.
Both Master Makarov and Natsu were staring at her now, both watching her with guarded and suspicious eyes. When all they did was stare at each other for a moment, Master Makarov finally chose to break the silence. “Well, girl? You don’t look like one of Grimoire Heart’s lackeys, or one of the Kin for that matter.”
Lucy could only mutely shake her head.
Makarov’s eyes narrowed. “Then who are you and how are you on this island? Only members of Fairy Tail are welcome here.”
Lucy struggled to speak around the lump in her throat. After all this time, she could finally speak to him, her Natsu, and she didn’t know what to say. As she watched him stare at her with distrusting eyes, ready to fight again if she made one wrong move, she realized that she had the worst timing possible. Of course they would think she was an enemy when they were on a secluded island that no one knew about that was currently being attacked. What could she say that would make them believe that she wasn’t a threat? She was only a foot or so away from the Veil, still only visible to her. Could she make it through before they attacked?
When she continued to only stare at them, panic and fear clear in her wide chocolate eyes, Natsu stepped forward cautiously. “What’s your name?”
Lucy blinked in surprise. Such a simple question when they were in such a complicated situation. But she supposed she shouldn’t have expected anything else from Natsu. It was with the feeling of confidence that Natsu’s predictable nature brought her that Lucy was able to find her voice.
“My name’s Lucy, Natsu.”
Natsu’s eyes widened impossibly with something like recognition. It was her voice, one he had heard a hundred times throughout his life, but had never known where it came from. But now he did.
“It’s you,” he said shakily, stepping toward her. She wanted to step back, to retreat to her realm where she’d be safe, but she knew that Natsu would never hurt her, and this was her only chance she’d ever have to speak with him like this, and so she took it.
“I’m a reaper, Natsu. I’m your reaper, I—“
She yelped when Master Makarov began to grow at a terrifying rate and she realized that she may have approached this wrong. “What do you mean you’re his reaper?!”
“Um, I’m not here to hurt him I swear!” She tried to reassure them, her voice strained with panic and her hands held up, palms open in front of her in a gesture of peace. Dealing with humans was harder than she had expected. “Reapers live beyond your realm and remain there for all of their lives until the, uh, person that we’re Bonded to—the person that we’re guarding is ready to, well, pass on. But we’re charged with watching over you and protecting your soul from our realm until then, so that’s what I’ve been doing.”
Natsu and Makarov, who was blessedly returning to his small stature, shared looks of disbelief before Makarov asked, “Then why are you here?”
Lucy swallowed nervously, looking between the two, before locking eyes with Natsu. She found her breath evading her once again as she stared into his all-too expressive obsidian eyes, still not believing that this was real, that she was finally here with him. She took a cautious step forward, never breaking eye contact. “I came because I thought… I was afraid that you were going to lose to Zancrow. I came to help you. I was able to tear a hole in the Veil between our realms large enough for me to fit through.”
Natsu raised an eyebrow at that. “But I thought you just said that you were only supposed to come to collect my soul or somethin’.”
Lucy nodded, pleased that he was able to grasp her meaning without her having to go into too much detail. She often suspected that Natsu wasn’t always as dense as he seemed, but had never had much in the way of evidence until now. “I’m not. But I couldn’t watch you get hurt anymore.” She looked between the two Fairy Tail mages, trying to convey her sincerity with her pleading gaze as she continued to move closer to Natsu, seemingly pulled to him without reason. “Fairy Tail is in serious trouble, and I’ve watched you all for most of my life. I won’t let this guild die without a fight.”
Master Makarov and Natsu, however, weren’t entirely convinced. “I’d stay where you are, my girl.”
Lucy froze, now only a yard or so away from them. She looked over to see Master Makarov giving her a look of skepticism that made her blood run cold. “I can sense a strange magic from over there, and it could very well be what you claim—a hole between your realm and ours. And you could be a reaper, something I’ve never heard of and I don’t believe in, or you could be lying to us.” Lucy flinched. “You must see how this looks. Our guild is under attack and you show up out of the blue like this. Even if you are a reaper, as you say, I don’t believe that I’m inclined to let you anywhere near Natsu, given the nature of your existence.”
Lucy nodded, unable to say anything. She couldn’t help but look at Natsu though.
She was surprised to find an unreadable expression in his eyes as he stared at her intensely. He seemed to be looking for something, but she didn’t know what. He didn’t seem to know what to say in that moment either.
Well, Lucy, she thought, mentally preparing herself for the inevitable fallout, It’s now or never.
“Natsu,” she said, meeting his eyes with determination. “I—”
She was caught off by the sound of loud footsteps and the shaking of the earth. Her eyes snapped to look over Natsu’s shoulder to see an odd looking man approaching from behind and raising a large fist dangerously. “Natsu, move!” she cried, leaping into action.
Natsu and Makarov both seemed too stunned by her outburst to do anything but watch as Lucy summoned her scythe back into her hand, pushing Natsu out of the way, and blocking the man’s giant fist with the flat of her blade all in one fluid movement.
“Where the hell did you come from, Dough Boy?” she demanded through gritted teeth, repositioning to grip her weapon with both hands when he only continued to apply more pressure to her blade in an attempt to over-power her.
At the sight of her deadly glare, the giant man flinched back and ducked behind the tree. Lucy stumbled forward at the sudden lack of pressure against her, and looked between Natsu and Makarov in confusion, and finding both Fairy Tail mages appeared just as perplexed as she was by the new arrival to their strange party, returned her gaze to the man glaring at her from behind his hiding place.
“Do you know who I am Lady?” he demanded. “I’m Kain Hikaru, of the Seven Kin of Purgatory. I’m super strong!”
Lucy raised a dubious eye brow. “Then why are you hiding behind that tree?”
“I’m not hiding!” the cowering man declared hotly.
Natsu picked himself up off the ground and moved to stand by Lucy’s side. She tried to ignore the fire that ignited across her shoulder where he brushed against her and the flutter in her stomach, but found it to be a challenge. She had never been touched in this realm where everything was so much… more before, and she found the sensation that the mere brush of his skin against her clothed shoulder caused to be addicting. But now was certainly not the time to be thinking such things.
“It sure looks like it to me,” Natsu rebuked, crossing his arms. Makarov seemed content to watch this play out from afar and said nothing.
“Screw you!” Kain yelled, leaping out of his hiding place and striking a pose that may have been meant to be aggressive but came out as more of a constipated-looking crouch. Lucy was ashamed to admit that she jumped regardless. “You asked for it! Now I have to use my curse magic on you. Just give me a lock of your hair.”
Lucy and Natsu looked and each other and sweatdropped. “Um, no.”
Kain did not appear to like that answer much as he responded by narrowing his eyes dangerously and grumbling, “Then prepare for the Pain Train.”
Lucy and Natsu once again shared twin looks of confusion and exasperation, as if they couldn’t believe the ridiculous situation that had interrupted their ridiculous situation, but were forced to return their attention to Kain when he bellowed “Chew chew!” and lunged at them.
Lucy dove to the right, rolling and readying her scythe to attack as Natsu leapt to the left, flames now encasing both of his fists.
Kain only had eyes for Lucy though, and he moved to attack her while chanting “Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga.”
Seriously, what was it with Fairy Tail’s enemies all being such giant creeps?
Natsu barely missed Kain with an attack and Lucy blocked a blow with her scythe, only for it to be knocked out of her hand and to the ground, where it disappeared into a cloud of smoke. Despite the fact that Natsu was obviously the bigger threat and had just attacked him, Kain continued his pursuit of Lucy, which gave her an idea.
“Natsu!” she yelled, capturing his attention. When he looked at her, eyes still skeptical and guarded, she demanded, “Take Master Makarov and run!”
“What?!” he asked incredulously, before calling, “Fire Dragon Iron Fist” and landing a hit on Kain that sent him back a few steps. But he was back up and after Lucy only seconds later.
“He’s injured! He’ll only be hurt more if he stays here,” she huffed, leaping up and over Kain, summoning her scythe back into her hand and slashing at his back with it on her return to the ground, only to miss by mere inches. She landed roughly, crouched on the ground, and gave Natsu and look that she hoped told him she was serious. “I came here to protect you. All of you. And I will do it, whether you believe me or not. So take your Master and get him to safety. I’ll take care of Tubby.”
Natsu and she shared a look, and for that moment, she felt the bond between their souls sing at the look of begrudging trust and admiration that he gave her. He nodded.
“You better not be lying to us, or I’ll make sure you pay,” he warned, giving her one last, fleeting look before scooping up Makarov, who only continued to watch Lucy silently, and running into the forest.
“Oh, I see,” Kain suddenly boomed behind her. She quickly stood up and faced him, resuming her defensive stance. She had forgotten he was there for a moment, thanks to her traitorous heart’s penchant for fluttering ridiculously whenever Natsu looked at her. She chalked it up as a side-effect of being on this side of the Veil. “You want some alone time with me.”
Lucy blinked. “Um… no.”
“Oh yes you do! I knew you returned my affections, pretty blonde lady! You sent your boyfriend away so we could be together.”
Lucy snorted, “No way! He’s not my boyfriend and I do not have any sort of affection for you, ya big creep!”
“So you’re single? Even better!”
Lucy was about to retort scathingly when a fist suddenly came barreling in her direction. She leapt up and to the left, rolling and brandishing her scythe upon landing. She took in her surroundings—they were still in the clearing where Natsu defeated Zancrow and Kain was pulling his fist out of the crater he made in the ground and was turning to face her. She made a decision.
She ran, taking off into the trees that surrounded the clearing in the opposite direction that Natsu had gone. Fighting a behemoth out in the open like that would not be in Lucy’s favor.
Cain was, as expected, pursuing her rapidly, if the chanted “Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga,” that accompanied his ridiculous running was anything to go by. He was quickly gaining ground, and Lucy found herself astonished by how light on his feet he was considering his size.
She realized that was the least of her concerns at the moment as she had apparently underestimated how close he was when she felt his hand chop into her back and send her flying with a yelp.
She hit a tree and dropped bodily to the ground. She looked up to see Kain hovering a few feet away, glowering at her. “If you won’t give me any of your hair, I’ll just have to use my own bristle.”
Lucy was confused, until she saw him pluck a strand of dry, frizzy hair from head and place it on that of his weird cloth doll that she miraculously just then noticed was tightly clutched in his fist. On second thought… she was actually still confused. Perhaps more-so.
“Change Mr. Cursey—I wanna be iron!”
Lucy watched, transfixed as Kain’s body was suddenly covered in iron. What kind of magic was this?
A moment later, Lucy found that she didn’t care when he grabbed her by the front of her cloak and flung her into another tree. Lucy groaned and struggled onto her feet. It seemed that things hurt a lot more in this realm as well.
“You can’t beat me lady. I may not look like much, but I’m still a member of the Seven Kin of Purgatory!”
Lucy scoffed, straightening into a low, defensive crouch and ripping her cloak from her shoulders to prevent it from further getting in her way. This left her in a black shorts and a white tank top that dropped off her shoulders. In her realm, she was rarely without her cloak that marked her as a reaper, but here, she found that she liked the freedom that she felt without it.
She faced Kain, and glared at him. “Well, that may be. But I’m Lucy, reaper of Natsu Dragneel, and it’s my job to protect his soul. And Fairy Tail is his soul, so I refuse to let you hurt any of them!”
Kain looked at her blankly at her words, and Lucy realized that it likely sounded like gibberish to him. But that was just as well—he was an idiot. He recovered quickly though, and decided that he didn’t care what she was saying anyway. “We’ll see about that lady. Mr. Cursey, change into cotton.”
Lucy could only watch in confusion as Kain floated into the air, but she caught on when he yelled “Change into iron” and came barreling towards her once more.
She was frozen in shock for a moment too long, and was just about to dive out of the way when a sandal-clad foot kicked him directly in the face and out of the way.
“Natsu!” Lucy cried in a mixture of surprise and delight.
He turned to face her, a strange look in his eye. “Did you mean what you said?”
Lucy’s brows furrowed in uncertainty as she looked up at his unreadable expression from her crouched position on the ground. “When I said what?”
“That you would protect Fairy Tail? For my soul?”
Lucy tensed for just a moment before she relaxed, met his eyes, and smiled at him for the first time. “Of course I did Natsu!” she laughed, grinning widely. “I’d do anything for your soul.”
Natsu looked at her, eyes narrowed in contemplation, before he held a hand out to her. She blinked in surprise, but placed her hand in his nonetheless, gasping when he pulled her to her feet so suddenly that she stumbled into him. Her cheeks heated when she caught herself on his chest, her hand touch the bare, toned flesh there, and she hesitantly met his eyes, waiting to see what he was doing.
“I knew that I’ve heard you before. You call for me sometimes, don’t you?”
Lucy nodded, slowly, disbelievingly. “You aren’t supposed to be able to hear me,” she whispered.
Natsu grinned then, widely and with such joy it was contagious. It was the smile that she had seen him give to others so many times, but this one felt special, unique and different because for the first time, it was directed at her. “But I did. It was always quiet, and a lot of the time I thought I was just imagining it, but I heard you. You used to read me stories when I was young and searching for Igneel, and you cried when I found Fairy Tail and told me I would be happy there, and you’re always there when I fight, warning me and trying to help me. You’ve always been there, and I didn’t know if you were real or not, but I knew that when I heard you it made me feel like someone was watching over me, like someone did care.”
Lucy nodded then, tears brimming her large chocolate eyes as she smiled up at Natsu. Never in her wildest dreams did she think that he could actually hear her, but she was relieved that he had. That he had known he was never really alone. That he always had her. “I did. I do. I was born to be bound to your soul Natsu—I grew up with you and I’ve always wanted you to be happy and to protect you. Coming here is forbidden, but I had to, because I couldn’t stand the thought of you or anyone you care about being hurt because I was too scared to do something about it.”
“Lucy,” Natsu murmured, still smiling widely at her tear-stained face. It was the first time he had said her name, and she found that it had never sounded so good before. “Thank you. Really, I—“
“Hey! Don’t you two have any decency?! Don’t get all lovey-dovey in the middle of the battlefield!”
Lucy and Natsu sprang apart, turning to face Kain where he was finally rising from the rubble of the several trees he had knocked down when Natsu kicked him.
“We aren’t being lovey-dovey!” they protested simultaneously, Lucy with her face aflame and Natsu with just a general pissed off expression.
“Whatever. If you wanna be handsy in front of me, I’ll make sure it’s the last thing you do!” Kain brandished his weird doll in front of him threateningly. Lucy tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at him in confusion, before she saw the gleaming lock of blonde hair now attached to the top of its head. Her hand shot up to grasp at her scalp in surprise.
“What the heck?! When did you get—ep!”
She was violently cut off when her body moved of its own accord, tackling Natsu to the ground. She was now lying on top of him, and he had his face pressed to her ample chest, which seemed to be making it difficult to breath, as indicated by his muffled screams and flailing limbs.
“Ow! What the hell are you doing to me you giant marshmallow?” she demanded hotly, trying in vain to regain control of her own motor functions.
Kain chuckled darkly. “I told ya, Lady. Mr. Cursey has you now, and you’ll do whatever I want!”
Lucy cried out as he suddenly repositioned the doll, making her joints bend and her tendons stretch in ways her body wasn’t familiar with. Natsu, having been freed from the confines of Lucy’s chest when she moved, sputtered and looked at her in shock.
“Lucy, what the hell are you doing now?!”
“I’m not doing this you idiot!” She yelled back, striking another pose without her consent. She could hear Kain giggling in the background, which only made her all the more pissed off. “Get the doll!”
Natsu finally managed to put two and two together and sprang into action. “Fire Dragon Talon,” he roared, leaping at Kain with raised claws to only be intercepted by Lucy’s unwilling body. She cried out in pain, and dropped to the ground.
“Lucy!” Natsu rasped in horror, staring at her in stunned silence before he turned his gaze to Kain and where he was holding his cursed doll in front of him and grinning darkly at Lucy’s now injured form on the ground. “I’ll kick your sorry ass for that!”
“Oh don’t be like that. If you leave now, I’ll let you go while I have my fun with Blondie over here, sound like a deal? I haven’t been on a date in a while, so this might be fun!”
Natsu grit his teeth and shot the dark mage a look that promised death. “No. Way. In Hell am I letting you hurt Lucy anymore! She may not be a member of my guild, but she’s been with me longer than anyone and she’s my friend! If you want her, you’ll have to go through me first!”
Lucy, who was struggling to regain her barrings after receiving such a hard blow from Natsu, had tears springing to her eyes. No one had ever stood up for her like that before—not Jellal, Mest, or any of the other Fairy Tail reapers. Not even Gray. They were certainly still her closest friends in her realm (particularly Gray), but reapers had more of a “fend for yourself” attitude. She had never expected to be in a situation like this, where Natsu knew her and considered her a friend of all things, but she was ridiculously, gloriously happy all the same. It didn’t matter to her in that moment that she had broken countless laws to be there, that she was currently under the control of a sadistic, oddly-shaped dark mage who could kill her any second if he wished, or that she was now stuck on an island being attacked by several other dark mages who would be happy to finish the job even if Kain Hikaru didn’t. She was with Natsu. She was Natsu’s friend. She had never been happier.
Natsu lunged at Kain, right fist lit up with flames, and hit him squarely in the face with a roar of “Fire Dragon Iron Fist.”
The doll went flying, and Lucy felt weightless for a moment before the doll landed roughly on the ground a few feet in front of her. Lucy, seizing her chance, scrambled to reclaim the doll. She had just touched it when she felt a large, sweaty hand grab her by the hair and yanked her back. She yelped, but clutched the doll to her chest tightly, not having any desire to lose control of her body again.
“You let go of her!” Natsu seethed, and suddenly all three of them were rolling down the hill.
“Oof!” Lucy chocked out as her back hit the base of a tree with a considerable amount of force. She slowly sat up to see Natsu and Kain engaged in a heated battle. Kain, now without his magic due to Lucy having captured his creepy doll, hit Natsu in the face with a staggering blow, sending him back several feet before he growled lowly and leapt at him again and hit him with a Fire Dragon Talon.
Lucy rose shakily to her feet. She was exhausted from using so much of her magic energy to travel between realms, her race away from Kain, her body being used against her will to do some rather strenuous activities and attacks, getting the brunt of a full-force from Natsu (though that was an accident on his part), and then rolling down a large hill and hitting a solid, stationary object. But she’d be damned if she didn’t give this her all.
“Lucy!” Natsu called to her, looking over his shoulder as he dodged a punch from Kain. “Lucy, run! Go back to your realm, where it’s safe. I’ve got this. Just go! Get out of here!”
Lucy didn’t even hesitate. From the moment Natsu had called her his friend, she knew what she would do. “No way! I refuse to run back to my realm now. I’d rather stay here with you, Natsu. I can think of nothing that would make me happier.” She looked up at him then, smiling through her exhaustion and pain, and saw him gaping at her in shock. “Besides, I think it’s more fun when we’re together like this, don’t you?”
Natsu only remained frozen for a second more, before he returned her smile with one of his own. “Hell yeah! Then let’s kick some Grimoire Heart ass, Luce!”
“Right!” Lucy agreed, rushing to his side and summoning her scythe once more.
Natsu leapt into the air, spinning, and kicked Kain with a flaming foot while Lucy ran at Kain’s disoriented form, sliding on her knees, and slashed at his ankles with her scythe. She rolled out of the way of his falling body and felt Natsu land next to her. He offered her a hand and she took it without hesitation, allowing him to pull her to her feet. They watched as Kain rose from the ground, glowering darkly at them.
“I thought I said no more lovey-dovey!”
“Get over it,” Lucy growled, rushing at him with her scythe raised. “Natsu!” she called.
“Ready when you are, Luce,” he responded with a manic grin, somehow understanding what she was trying to ask of him without further information.
Instead of going for his legs this time, Lucy fainted to the left at the last second, dodging a grabbing hand, and slashed at his back. When he turned to reach for her, Lucy reared back, ran at him, leaping, and yelled “Lucy kick!” She landed a kick to his chin powerful enough to send him into Natsu’s waiting fist, and when he inevitably came flying back at Lucy, now encased in flames, she spun her blade out and swung it down in an arc, catching him directly in the chest.
After that, Kain laid prone on the ground, twitching. “Okay,” he groaned faintly. “I’m done now.”
Lucy spared him a final glance before looking back up at Natsu, a brilliant smile on her face. “We did it!”
“Hell yeah we did! Awesome job Luce!”
Lucy looked at Natsu’s smiling face, and found that she didn’t want this moment to end. She had asked for one single moment of this—of being a part of Natsu’s world, having him smile at her, talk with her, defeat bad guys with her. It was literally a dream come true. But it was time for her to wake up.
She allowed her scythe to fade back into nothingness, and approached Natsu slowly, a shy smile on her face. “Well, I guess I should head back to my realm now that Tubby is taken care of. It was great fighting beside you for once Natsu. Thank you,” she said, trying her hardest to keep her smile in place and not let her disappointment show.
Natsu’s brows furrowed and he looked at her incredulously. “What do ya mean go back to your realm?”
Lucy blinked at him, and looked around uncomfortably before meeting his gaze once more, though she did so unsurely. “Well… like I said, I’m really not supposed to be here. I should go back before anyone notices I’m gone,” she reasoned, though she suspected it was already too late for her to make it out of this situation unscathed. There would surely be severe punishment for her interfering with her Bonded the way she had. It didn’t matter though. She’d take it gladly, whatever it was.
“But I thought you wanted to stay here and help Fairy Tail? You said that you wanted to stay here. With…” Natsu hesitated, his gaze shifting to his feet as he finally mumbled, “with me.”
“Of course I do, Natsu,” Lucy rushed to assure him, reaching for his hand and forcing him to meet her eye. “I never want to leave. But I’m not human. I was never supposed to be here.”
Natsu was uncharacteristically silent for a moment, watching her with searching eyes that seemed to burn her in the most pleasant of ways wherever they landed. He nodded when he seemed to have come to a decision, and released her hand to head back up the hill. Lucy watched him in confusion as he left her, not understanding what he was doing. Didn’t he want to at least say goodbye?
It seemed that he didn’t.
“Well,” Natsu called over his shoulder when he realized she wasn’t following. “Are you coming or not?”
Lucy shook her head sadly. “Natsu, I already said—“
“Yeah, yeah,” He interrupted, turning to face her fully and placing his hands on his hips as he looked down at her. “You’re not human, you don’t belong here, whatever. Who cares? You fought for Fairy Tail, and that makes you as good as one of us in my book. The others will agree too. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to anymore, Lucy,” Natsu implored, looking at her with an uncharacteristic seriousness in his gaze. “If you want to stay here and be a part of Fairy Tail, then you will. If they want you to go back to your realm—well we’ll deal with them when it happens, just like we do with anybody that threatens our nakama. So what do you say, Luce? Fairy Tail is under attack and we need all hands on deck if we’re gonna beat Grimoire Heart. Are you coming?”
Lucy stared at the hand that Natsu had extended to her in disbelief. He wanted her to join Fairy Tail? He wanted her to stay here, with him?
Her gaze moved from his tanned hand to his obsidian eyes, searching for something she wasn’t sure of until she found it.
Warmth.
She didn’t have to be alone anymore, in the cold recesses of her realm where she had to wait for Natsu to die. No, she could stay here and live with him. Be an active part of his adventures rather than just a passive observer.
Was there really any other choice?
She grasped his hand tightly, tears in her eyes as she smiled with a warmth and radiance she didn’t think she was capable of, and allowed her to pull her up the hill. To Fairy Tail. “I’m all fired up now.”
Author’s Note: So this was my first Fairy Tail fanfic as well as the first thing I’ve posted on this site. So please let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions. Thanks for reading!

Just found these Zancrow HCs I made a long ass time ago:
-He really likes food that is spicy as hell because it feels like eating fire. He is also not bothered at all by the spiciness which means he could eat a kilogramm of Carolina Reapers and be completely fine.
-He's actually pretty good at cooking but it's ruined by the fact that everything he makes is so damn spicy that anyone who is not a Flame God Slayer (or any other fire-related slayer) can't stomach it.
-He used to have eyebrows but he burned them off while learning his magic. They didn't grow back...
-He is generally a bit insensitive when it comes to pain stimulation. He feels it but it's not as unpleasant as pain should be.
- He can raise his body temperature to absurdly high levels at will. So if he doesn't want anyone around him, he just heats up. If you tried to touch him it'd burn your skin upon contact.
-When in a cold environment he heats up unintentionally like a reflex. He doesn't even realize he does it until snow and ice around him start to melt.

tryna make a comeback after so long! so, decided i’m gonna do a thing. LIKE/REBLOG THIS POST IF YOU’D BE TOTALLY COOL WITH HAVING YOUR MUSE INTERACT WITH ZANCROW FROM FAIRY TAIL. yup, he’s a villain! a bit of a kooky one, at that. i’m open to all other fandoms since i am more than likely familiar with them. so, to brief other rp fandoms of zancrow (who ain’t too familiar with this crazy boy). he’s a psychotic, violent dude with a very problematic complex-- a god complex-- and did i mention he kinda waddles like a penguin when he walks? anyway, going on-- he’s arrogant as hell and a hothead. he’s a definite pyromaniac, doesn’t help he has fire magic seeing as he is a flame god slayer. has a very distinct laugh “uhihihihi~~!” so you bet your ass you’ll be seeing him laugh a lot. also, come on-- look at that big ass wild hair of his.
but yes, again, LIKE/REBLOG IF YOU’RE COOL WITH HAVING MY MUSE INTERACT WITH YOURS SINCE THESE TEND TO WORK WAY BETTER THAN ACTUAL FANCY SHMANCY PROMOS.

How I Would’ve Done the Grand Magic Games Arc
Well people seemed to like my how I would end Fairy Tail so I guess I’ll give you another thing I would’ve loved making alterations to. That being the Grand Magic Games arc. (Be warned as this is an arc it is a little long)
First off we are cutting out the time travel. No Future Rogue, No Future Lucy, and no dragon’s from the past. Not every arc needs to have the world in danger to be compelling.
Makarov died on Tenrou. That way we have reason for Mavis to come in and act as the new mentor figure.
The Fairy Tail team is getting a goddamn training arc. Look the GMG was the longest arc (before Alvarez) and if we cut the future stuff we should have those extra chapters contribute to something better.
No second origin. Hacking yourself is not interesting.
The A team is aware of the B team. (It was a stupid reveal and if your all working towards the same goal then it makes no sense not to tell them.)
So in this training arc each character gets their own way of training.
Mavis tells Elfman of a forest that Gildarts went through that full of beasts and he could go there get new souls
This way we see Elfman hunt the beasts he’ll use in the tournament. Hunting and taking over weretiger and lizardman
Mavis says this is good training for Elfman as not only is he getting new souls but when in a wilderness setting like the forest the body to move around and uses a mix of muscles. This way not only can he get souls but also he’ll increase his base states as well.
Lucy still trains with Capricorn but make it longer. Capricorn is the wisest spirit, having him mentor Lucy on the secrets on celestial magic is a good idea
Erza actually recalls her fight with Azuma and how he was able to counter all her variety with only one form of magic.
Erza decides that maybe she might need new armor, after all it’s been 7 years advancements had to have been made. (Also this way we can see her buy the piercing armor and Nakagami armor)
Also she asks to spar Mira because Erza is now using more variety in her fights. (I’ve written before how the progression of Erza’s powers should’ve been: 1 armor–> Variety of Armor–> Mixing weapons from other armors with other armors. This seems it’s still variety stage of that progression)
Wendy’s training is with Laxus. (I mean all of FT’s DS all are pals except for Wendy and Laxus)
Wendy realizes she needs strength training and can’t just be support so Laxus tells her to punch a tree and see how hard she punches.
Naturally it doesn’t leave that much of of a dent and Laxus tells her that her first thing is to take her emotion and put it behind her punches.
Wendy keeps trying but it’s pretty much to no avail, she gets upset thinking about losing Mystogan and cait shelter but also she thinks about Brain, Faust, and Zancrow with how they hurt people close to her and she gets frustrated think if only she was stronger that she could stop them on her own.
She then punches and starts cracking apart the tree from the punches coming from her anger till Laxus catches her fist.
He tells her the point was to put her emotions behind the punch, not let them overwhelm her. He tells her that she must fight with her convictions but angry will only drive you in the wrong direction. Laxus himself getting flashbacks over his rage induced goals.
Wendy agrees to what he says and they begin to train (There I just did character growth and expanded the bonds of FT members)
Then we get Grays training. And he believes he needs to become faster molding magic. So he focus’s on increasing his already high speed.
Mavis comes across Gray after some of his training and he states he’s made no progress and Mavis tells him maybe instead of focusing on all his shapes being made faster he should choose one mold and increase it’s speed.
Gray decides he’ll increase the speed it takes for Ice-Make sword. This way when he shows off Ice make unlimited we see his speed really iss different and why.
Mavis offers Cana a way to permanently master Fairy Glitter.
Also notice Mavis is actually being smart and helpful. like an actual mother/strategist.
Natsu and Gajeels training is first they have their wrists bound and are then launches with Erza’s giant armor so far into the deep forest.
The two have to first get along with each other but they just end up letting their egos keep getting in the way.
The first challenge they face is giant waterfall
Natsu says he can get over it easy and use his flames to increase his jump and says when he’s at the top he’ll pull up Gajeel by their bindings.
This plan fails as Natsu can’t make enough jump to make it to the top. So Gajeel says he’ll handle it and uses his Iron to pier the rock and climb the the waterfall. This fails too, as the waters are too fast and force him down.
They keep trying their methods and get nowhere till Natsu asks Gajeel how far can he extend his Iron pillars and so using a combo of Gajeel’s iron club to push them up and Natsu’s fire to propel them up they are able to clear the water fall.
They decide to rest for the first night and in the morning they find a stream and see fish in it.
Gajeel has trouble catching them but Natsu doesn’t and while Gajeel is a little refusing to accept any of the food Natsu caught, Natsu tells them need to eat.
But the food attracts a Vulcan pack and while they beat them they find out there are more vulcans and they keep fighting and once they win they decide to move on and get out of they forest quickly.
They however are stopped by a sudden rain storm and flee to find shelter but those same vulcans followed they and attack again Natsu is having a difficult time in the rain but Gajeel is still able to push them all back and they find some shelter.
Gajeel sleeps but Natsu stands out in the rain trying to increase his fire but each time it’s doused.
Natsu then thinks he’s doing it the wrong way and instead of making the flame bigger, he focuses on just increasing the heat and slow the flame burn brights as the water evaporates,
They continue on but it’s then when they hear the sound of the same vulcan horde Gajeel says they’re going to fight again Natsu tells Gajeel to just run as they clear more ground and when they stop Gajeel questions what the hell is up with Natsu
Natsu says they couldn’t fight as they are hungry and sleep deprived.
Natsu remembers what Gildarts told him about overcoming weakness and the first step is to know your weakness.
Making it closer to the end of the forest they come across a huge monster that beats the 2 around Natsu keeps up most the fighting and finishes the beast off but collapses.
Gajeel see’s this and turns his arms to blades and starts scrapping them against each other to create sparks to feed Natsu.
They both stand up and make it to the end of the forest yelling that if this place couldn’t beat them down then either could any guild.
They return as we gets shots of other people finishing their training.
During all this there are scenes introducing characters like Lyon and Jura but also new ones. I think you can keep Sting and Rogue’s intro, use the Erza getting new armor to introduce Kagura like when she’s coming out of the blacksmith shop have her pass Erza, or have Bacchus drinking at the FT bar, or with Raven Tail show Ivan rallying his men for the GMG.)
The actual tournament begins with the sky labyrinth. Focus on it a little more as it is the prelim.
Also team B meets assembles and Gajeel questions that he, Juvia, Mira, and Laxus are there and Cana is the reserve so who’s the fifth man.
The fifth member is Bickslow, and let me explain I wouldn’t done Loke but it seems like cheating for a spirit that’s owned by another contestant and on another team to be a member. It wouldn’t be Levy as she is made out to still not be a stronger member and they already have a reserve. Out of the thunder god tribe Bickslow is the most untapped into, Freed’s the most tapped into (that’s not saying much) but also his dark ecriture and jutsu shiki seem as they’d take to long to make and would be a detriment, Evergreen I’ll be honest has really undefined magic so I see it hard to make it interesting.
Bickslow on the other hand has powers that can be used in a variety of purposes and as I said he’s the least tapped into.
Another change to teams: Sho and Wally are on mermaid heel and there’s no beth or arana. (OKay first off Hiro wanted to include them in the first place but felt like there were too many characters, so why not cut your loses as having more already established characters like sho and Wally so you have more time on new characters like Sabertooth, Kagura, Chelia etc. Also Mermaid Heel doesn’t have to be an all female guild.)
The first day can stay the same.
Lucy vs Flare keep it
Mirajane vs Jenny change it to an actual fight but have the reason Jenny lose is she’s a little vain with her take overs and Mira takes advantage of it. (There I made a way for there to be fanservice without any demeaning of the actual fight… yay)
Orga’s intro keep it
Bickslow vs Jura. Jura fights the same way and while Bickslow is aware he’ll lose he’s still fighting for Laxus. Take this time to dive into Build on why Bickslow follows Laxus.
When it looks like it’s over as Jura has Bickslow on the ground Bickslow stands up even though it seems impossible and the reason is Bickslow posessed his own soul.
Even though it’s damaged he can still move his body and at least go out with everthing. Plus it’s not impossible to believe he could possess his own soul as he can see them and we can all naturally look down at our bodies.
Spend more time on Raven tail and define that they just came to beat FT they don’t care to win.
Chariot: Change the FT teams with A to Elfman but B being Mira because then we can see satan soul’s feature of speed (Doesn’t have to fly and i’d assume the enhanced mode would increase speed)
Elfman vs Bacchus, don’t change it
Kagura vs Yukino, don’t change it
No Natsu v sabertooth and just introduce Jiemma as this dick and show off Minerva (Hell use it as good parallel to Ivan and how they are similar only Jiemma use strength as a reason why he’s an ass and Ivan just wants to hurt people out of vengence.)
Pandemonium, for the love of god don’t change it
MPF, keep it the same
Laxus vs Alexei needs more time and insead of Laxus clowing all of Raven Tail, just have it be Ivan and they lose by disqualify.
Wendy vs Chelia, don’t change it
Naval Battle, change the wings of love scene but Minerva can still win
The team merges but there is a penalty and they lose some of their points
Ichiya doesn’t beat Bacchus as it completely makes Elfman’s win seem weaker
Instead of Lyon and Yuka vs Millianna and Kagura, have it be Millianna and Sho because an issue with Kagura was too much overhype so this will space it out.
Natsu and Gajeel vs Sting and Rogue, I think you can keep most the back and forth the same but the ending with the uniso raid should be countered with a unison raid. (No minecart crap)
The Raid is Stronger as not only because of the shared conviction but also that whole training arc got Natsu and Gajeel closer and stronger
Sting can still blow a hole in Jiemma and Minerva can trick him with lector
Final day, It’s Erza, Laxus, Natsu, Gray and Gajeel. Mavis has her god damn mouth closed
Gray fights Rufus but Rufus gets caught up in using all these powers he’s memorized and Gray takes advantage using Ice make unlimited and beats him as Rufus let his arrogance and constant binding of moves makes him over look something basic like Gray taking a basic move and focusing only on that.
Erza fights Kagura and Erza uses more damn variety of armors against Kagura.
Minerva enters and yes no samurai pants still just Erza and her swapping out her armor and fighting her, like she should.
Orga faces Chelia and crushes her telling her about how God slayer are at the top of world and somebody like her is weak.
Chelia asks how can he tell what weakness and strength is and Orga says he killed the man who taught him god slaying because the student needed to prove he was stronger, and says Chelia doesn’t have that in her.
Laxus comes up and tells him he’s full of shit
Gajeel and Rogue fight with no shadow and just about Rogue’s fear of Gajeel and Gajeel pointing out that he’s not the same person back in phantom. Gajeel then shows that he’s glad there are other dragon slayers and eats the shadow.
Gets his dual mode and beats Rogue
Returning to Orga and Laxus’s fight they are throwing around lightning and destroying stuff and Orga tells Laxus he’s not reacting quick enough.
Orga isn’t thinking out his moves he’s letting his instinct fight but Laxus exploits this when Orga uses his black lightning canon and puts his all his magic behind it but when the attack is coming Laxus smirkks saying that instinct can always be trumped by expierence and Laxus eats the lightning
Laxus asked Natsu about god slayer magic and Natsu explained the trick he used on Zancrow.
Orga’s baffled by this but Laxus uses Roaring thunder on Orga
Orga tries to stand up but Jura knocks him out saying he would know when to quit
Cut to Gray who then takes Lyon with Gajeel’s help
CUt to the threesome and Kagura still loses to Minerva but now Erza says that she’ll handle this
Back to the fight with Jura and Laxus the fight is on a grand scale, lightning crashing down, Jura raising the ear and using every single rock to attack Laxus just blow for blow it’s a battle between titans
Jura says Laxus is running on low and Jura reveals a technique called “wrath born from earth” which is a giant rock assimilation that becomes massive hands and try to close together similar to a prayer and crush laxus
Laxus uses Lightning body to dodge the attack and propel towards Jura and uses the black lightning he ate and merge it with his dragon lightning and then try to crush Jura
Jura creates a massive rock wall to guard and sees that the dragon god lightning move didn’t pierce it
But Laxus reveals he used lightning body again and moved around the wall using this moment of Jura’s surprise Laxus uses Roar and not only fully hits Jura but also blasts Jura through his own Rock wall
Erza reveals Nakagami to Minerva and Nakagami doesn’t have the same power. It uses holy light as a weapon
Minerva laughs this off as her speed still can’t touch her thanks to territory but Erza reveals that not only does Nakagami produce holy light
It also manipulates light and Erza bends the setting sun’s rays and uses them like blades to attack Minerva and while Erza wins she passes out from exhaustion
The final fight with Sting, Gray tries to fight but Sting beats him, Gajeel tries and Sting beats him. Sting gloats saying lector has given him more strength that their bond makes him stronger
Natsu see’s Sting and challenges him
Natsu takes advantage of the first move and punches sting in the neck disorienting him as Natsu beats him around, but Sting regains his barrings and easily punches back Natsu
Sting wastes no time with fighting Natsu and is even in dragon force beating around Natsu.
Natsu feels each of Stings punches and they seem to have more weight behind them and Sting says it’s because of Lector each punch is stronger than the last time they fought
Natsu gets a few hits in but it’s one sided
Natsu thinks about the guild and how it was his home, how hard it was for his guild to be insulted everyday for 7 years, sad that Lucy’s in bed not fighting with them, and he then says everyone else finished their fights and he’ll finish his
Natsu goes for crimson lotus exploding flame blade and that pushes back Sting and Natsu charges forward coated in flames and tries to ounch Sting but Sting catches it similar to how Natsu caught his white drive punch
Natsu tries with his other fist but Sting catches it and says Natsu still won’t win getting up in his face as Sting is crushing Natsu’s fingers while they’re caught
Natsu then roars in front of Sting and charges at him while saying that bonds do make you stronger and each punch Sting threw was because he carried the conviction of his friend in them but Natsu says in fist he carries the conviction of every member of guild and their hopes.
He punches Sting into the ground and Sting is out
Sting gets lector back as the guild is titled the bestLector tells Sting it doesn’t matter he lost and that Sting looked cooler than he ever had beforeSting tops yukino as shes boarding a train to leave and on his hands and knees begs her to come back apologizing We cut to arcadios who’s walking to the king and tells him that the eclipse gate reacted slightly when the zodiac keys were in crocus. As it’s printed that FT is the strongest we finally see crime socirere and their new looks and Jellal says he’s proud of Erza and Ultear says the same of Gray. Then Meredy reminds them that only one head of balam is left and thats Tartaros (there I created intrigue for the next arcs and instead of the time lapse we just use the Eclipse gate to get to neo eclipse)
So that’s how I would’ve done GMG. Again I found this as a satisfying way to do it and hope you guys enjoy.

Fairy Tail: S3 - Ep. 8
Fairy Tail: S3 – Ep. 8
Makarov is defeated and gravely wounded in his battle against Hades, which is sensed by the wandering Laxus. Meanwhile, the other members of Fairy Tail battle Grimoire Heart’s army. Joining the battle are the Seven Kin of Purgatory, each of whom possess an ancient form of magic called Lost Magic. Natsu faces off against Zancrow, one of the Seven Kin and a “God Slayer” who can create black flames…

Unpopular Opinion: Gray shouldn't have gotten Devil Slayer Magic. We barely understand where God Slayer originates from, allowing someone to learn it from a BOOK but get Devil Slayer. Throwing in another Slayer Magic just to add fuel to Natsu and Gray's rivalry was eh. If Gray needed to be a Devil Slayer, he should have been it from the beginning, learning it after Ur used Iced Shell somehow and then letting Gray fight Deliora with it instead of Deliora instantly dying.
Send me your unpopular opinions about Fairy Tail and see if I judge you for them.
I certainly have issues with Devil Slayer magic but this would not be one of them; I can appreciate it appearing on Gray at the same time it was revealed that Natsu was a demon and therefore they were practically guaranteed to come to blows. Drama, and all that.
The problem was that, for refusing to write anything but dragonslayer magic and variations thereupon, Mashima never explains a single thing.
Like, I can infer that godslaying magic is a corrupted version of dragonslaying magic, given that it operates the exact same way but is explicitly superior in all ways that matter, and is the same color black as Zeref's death magic. But Mashima never actually comes out and says that, and Zancrow's references to his flames being "divine" go un-elaborated on. Unlike dragons, the divine exists on a dichotomy, so it makes sense that if godslaying magic can exist, so can devil-slaying magic...
But then, Mashima only introduces one type (Ice Devil-Slaying Magic) and then never explains how Silver got it or developed it, why he did so, what he was planning to do with it, or why he chose an ice-type magic, when all of that would've been easy. It looks really bizarre that he openly uses demon-killing magic amidst a crew of Etherious peers and doesn't draw any hostile intent for that, and it looks even weirder when it pops up in Bloodman's roster of powers that, unlike the others, isn't a Curse derived from the negative nature of an Etherious.

Fairy Tail: 3x9
Fairy Tail: 3×9
Natsu is overwhelmed by Zancrow’s God Slayer magic, which proves superior to his own Dragon Slayer magic. Upon finding Makarov badly injured during his fight, Natsu regains his resolve and defeats Zancrow by nullifying his own magical power, allowing him to eat Zancrow’s flames and combine their power with his own. Meanwhile, Lucy, Cana, Gray, and Loke fight Caprico, another member of the Seven…

It's debatable who's worse between Erza and Natsu. If you look at all of Erza's asspull compared to Natsu her fights are pretty damn bad. Sure Natsu has some really bad fights. Natsu is bad hell I don't even like him, but all the convient things Erza has going for her and how she never tires and can beat and stand up to people half healed is just beyond BS. If you can give me an Example of Natsu besides Zeref and Acno I will admit though for Erza it's every fight and it's an entire arcfull
i can list more, yeah.
Natsu vs Jellal: Dragon Force Exists. Convenient Dragon Slayer Solution #1.
Natsu vs Zero: Natsu burns through Genesis Zero
Natsu vs Zancrow: Natsu can’t eat God Slayer Flames, so…. empties his body of magic and then eats it…? Like that solves the problem somehow? And still has immediate access to his own magic afterwards. Convenient solution #2 that is never brought up again and is never replicated by any other Dragon Slayer in the series.
Natsu eats Laxus’ lightning to form Fire Lightning Dragon Mode. Every other time Natsu has eaten an element that isn’t fire prior to this, he’s gotten sick. Why he doesn’t this time is not explained, nor is it explained for anyone else. Second convenient solution thtat is never addressed in the series in the same arc. Also never addressed; why Natsu keeps the lightning powerup but not the god powerup, which is probably “Mashima wanted one but not the other”.
Natsu vs Sting and Rogue; Natsu tanks two Dragon Slayers from a superior generation so easily it’s fucking embarrassing. (from the same arc that brought us Laxus vs Jura, wherein Laxus didn’t even get Second Origin)
Natsu vs Jackal; Natsu…. eats Jackal’s explosions…? After they happen, to… prevent getting hurt? Because that’s how explosions work. This one really… does not make anything resembling sense.
The entire scene that involved Natsu somehow finding FACE’S base with the power of his nose. Because apparently it was that strong the whole goddamn time?! Natsu can just track Mira and Erza into the sky?! Convenient dragon slayer solution #4, Natsu’s supernose is never seen again.
Natsu OHKOs Bluenote Stinger in the single biggest case of power creep I have ever seen in a shonen.
Natsu then punches out a god, again so easily it’s kind of ridiculous. Who needs God Slayers, right? Natsu has now apparently surpassed God Slayers as a concept. He’s even surpassed the fact that Gods > Dragons.
“You’re dying of dual dragonification/demonisation, Natsu!” “don’t wanna” “fair point you’re cured”
edit: I can’t believe I forgot that one time Natsu was so mad he managed to move freely within DiMaria’s timestop.
this is literally just off the top of my head. if there’s more i’ll add them later.

How to Make An Intelligent Fighter or Strategist:
There really isn’t an easy way to describe to a viewer who doesn’t think critically how and why Mavis Vermillion fails as a tactician, her one famed trait. But I think I’ve figured out a way.
When you want to craft a character who is skilled in battle situations because of their intelligent means of fighting, their cunning, or their excellence when it comes to strategy, there are certain ways you have to show it for it to be believable. Showing characters like these is done several times in Fairy Tail and there are good examples, Mavis just isn’t one of them.
The keys are subtlety and, more than that, audience inclusion.
What I’m saying is, when you show how a character is a good strategist, the audience has to be able to come to the same conclusions they do. Not necessarily obviously or as soon as it happens, but the audience definitely needs to know what’s going on in a character’s brain.
Bad example: Mavis in “Fairy Tactician”, where Mavis accurately directed all members of the Fairy Tail team in the Grand Magic Game and, for the most part, accurately predicted who would show up where. This example is bad because all we can see is Mavis saying things will happen and then those things happening. She is promptly lauded for her great tactical thinking and we are told about her great reputation as a tactician, even scoring many victories in a war because of it. However, the audience cannot see how Mavis comes to these conclusions, nor the thinking behind them in any way--we simply see the effects. That makes this an informed quality--and informed qualities are not good. “Tell, don’t show”-- a reminder of the greatest rule of subtle writing.
Good example: Erza vs. Midnight. Jellal is at an absolute loss as to how to circumvent Midnight’s seemingly invincible and manipulative powers. Erza meanwhile, far beneath him in power level, figures out two crucial ones and successfully exploits them, leading to Midnight’s defeat at her hands. We aren’t told what these weaknesses are right off the bat, but when they’re exposed to us, we immediately understand how they work and how Erza was able to figure them out. The first weakness is not being able to manipulate the human body, and the second is only being able to manipulate one space at a time. While we’re watching the early stages of the fight, it doesn’t occur to us why Midnight doesn’t simply bend Erza’s body instead of his armor--his powers are still mostly unclear to us, and he isn’t pursuing a strategy of his own, just his sadism. After we realize why though, we also realize that this makes sense and was hinted at--when Erza requips into a different armor, Midnight doesn’t change tactics and bend her body, but continues bending her armors, hinting that he can’t affect her body directly. The second weakness is only manipulating one space--this one’s a lot clearer. When Erza manages to throw a sword past her twisted armor, Midnight uncharacteristically dodges it nonchalantly, coolly but still in contradiction to his recent refusal to move an inch from any incoming attack. It’s definitely meant to draw the eye, but it’s not clear to us why he does it until we’re told, and then we again realize that it was obvious all along: while he was bending her armor, he couldn’t bend the space around himself. Since Erza came to these conclusions before the audience did, but the audience can still come to those same conclusions after the fact with no issues, Erza comes off as an intelligent fighter who was able to spot and take advantage of weaknesses that others couldn’t or didn’t.
Bad example: Zeref in one of the latest chapters, and generally the entire Alvarez Empire arc. In his confrontation with Gray, he claims to know a lot about Fairy Tail’s individual members and not only their magic, but their interpersonal relationships with one another and the effects they’ve had on one another’s lives. Again, we’re told of this, but what we’re shown doesn’t really add up. If Zeref were as well-researched as he claims to be, he wouldn’t currently be badly losing the war--that, or he just doesn’t care. But putting that to the side, he clearly did not use any available knowledge of Fairy Tail’s magics or relationships to use when arranging the Spriggan Twelve to combat them. He says outright that he was expecting Jellal or Laxus instead of Gray, despite knowing what any simpleton would know about Gray by this point: that he has a sealing spell and a suicidal streak and a tendency to utilize both at once. Rather than use Jacob’s potential as an invisible assassin and hamstring Fairy Tail, Jacob is instead allowed to waltz into the area and announce his intentions. Whatever his lack of concern for Larcade, the fact remains that Larcade proved very vulnerable to Sting’s being a White Dragonslayer. It even extends to non-Fairy Tail matters. Despite knowing Acnologia is out to slaughter dragonslayers, he allowed Irene Belserion, one of his strongest assets and not really one he could afford to lose, around him and even to engage him in combat. The loss of God Serena can be attributed to the same lack of care taken when dealing with Acnologia and dragonslayers. Zeref’s intelligence and surveillance skills come off as another informed quality.
Good example: Hades’ utilization of Azuma when it comes to attacking Fairy Tail on Tenrou Island. Even assuming that his Seven Kin couldn’t wipe out Fairy Tail unaided (and they probably could have), he sends Azuma ahead first because Azuma’s unique and distinct abilities allow him to turn Fairy Tail’s greatest advantage into their greatest weakness. The Tenrou tree not only amplifies Fairy Tail’s magic power, but actually keeps them alive and breathing even if they’re on death’s door, effectively making them immortal as long as they’re on the island. But by merging with it and taking control of those specific magic effects, Azuma is able to cancel and reverse them. Even had Erza won the fight fair and square (she didn’t), her victory would have meant nothing had Azuma not returned Fairy Tail’s magic of his own accord, meaning if not for traitorous altruisim on Azuma’s part, Hades’ plan would’ve gone off without a hitch and he comes off as a smart strategist for it. Even the other Kin members, unlike Ivan’s woefully ill-equipped Raven Tail, seem almost tailor-made to take out Fairy Tail members. Zancrow’s godslaying flames are a critical weakness to Natsu, one of the guild’s strongest members. Ultear’s Arc of Time makes Gray’s Ice Make magic almost completely useless--and this would hold true also for pretty much any of the mages on the island, including Erza for instance, or Gildarts, or Freed, etc. Caprico/Zoldeo has already proven himself able to subjugate Celestial Spirits, proving to be a capable adversary to Lucy Heartfilia, another strong member, and her allies. Meredy’s ability to sensory link allows her to handicap almost any opponent, and her ability to induce blinding pain regardless of material or mass allows her to damage opponents like Juvia Lockser, who are normally immune to physical attacks. Going back to Azuma: again, the audience doesn’t pick up on this until it’s made clear to them, but once it is, it seems obvious. We know from the moment Azuma is introduced that he can merge with trees, and we know already that Tenrou Island has a massive tree at its center. It isn’t until we start to hear about the Tenrou Tree’s magic properties that we might even be suspicious of what Azuma’s really there for, especially as Azuma has no prior history with Fairy Tail and no overt motivation to arrive first.
If the audience cannot make sense of the conclusions your character comes to or how, then the character you are trying to play off as incredibly smart or tactical will come off as instead having an informed flaw: sure, we hear you talking about it, but as far as we see, they’re no smarter than anyone else. It will become especially blatant if, as in Mavis’ and Zeref’s cases, your characters do blatantly stupid things that go against their informed traits.

Conversation
What he says: We can make an educated guess that godslaying magic was created by Zeref, likely by tampering with dragonslaying magic. Not only is it black, like Zeref's own death curse, Zeref has every reason to try to create magic capable of destroying divinity with, given his backstory with the god Ankhseram. When matched up with dragonslaying magic, godslaying magic comes in as superior, as dragonslayers prove vulnerable to their godslaying element and cannot eat it. Considering Acnologia likely has more than some elemental immunities thanks to bathing in the blood of dragons he's slain, and that Igneel's massive fire roar did absolutely nothing to him, it's also possible that this altered slaying magic was designed to serve the dual purpose of taking Acnologia down a peg, which is known to be one of Zeref's goals. In the anime, both Zeref's curse and Zancrow's fire are even rendered the same way. You could even take this further, and say that the dark flames Natsu manifested when E.N.D. awoke inside him were godslaying flames (and his target, DiMaria Yesta, would prove vulnerable due to being a vessel for the god of time).
What he means: I don't know why I'm going this deep at all, considering godslaying magic went almost nowhere very quickly. Wishful thinking, I guess.

Note
in the ft verse dragons are more superior than gods
It seems to imply gods are slightly higher as Natsu couldn’t eat god flame without emptying his magic while Zancrow could eat it in one go. I see dragon’s as the saiyan’s of this universe, they’re the most physically powerful creatures and seem to be revered for destruction.
