Though the Flag Code of the United States of America never specifies what exact shades of red, white, or blue should be used, it does explicitly state that the dye used for the red portions must be the camphorated blood of a virgin mantis-boar that died while drunk on Schnapps.

The flag of the United States shall be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white; and the union of the flag shall be fifty stars representing the fifty states, white in a blue field

The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

That joke about the flag code that interprets the American flag as any flag with red/white/blue with stars and stripes completely falls flat when you, a vexillologist knows the flag code doesn't even define the flag but rather Executive Order No. 10834

Fun fact: You know that "Thin Blue Line" flag that police and police supporters like to pass around? 'Cause they're REAL 'MURICANS?
It's a violation of the United States Flag Code. The Flag Code states that the United States flag "should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature." Yeah, marking that blue line across the flag is legally considered to be defacing it.
There are no criminal consequences for violation of the Flag Code, mind you. The Supreme Court in the 90's recognized defacing the U.S. flag to be a legally valid form of expression, recognized under the First Amendment.
But when you're a REAL 'MURICAN representing law enforcement, I don't know if you should be allowed to argue that you were just expressing your First Amendment rights when you defaced the U.S. flag.

Tumblr's search function is garbage, but I finally found my previous reblog to this: I actually worked out this code back in 2018. I think.
That middle flag was actually the flag for 0 in the 1800s. It’s also occasionally used in races to mean “Obstacles on course.”
If we assume it’s 0, then it’s probably just being used as a space, to indicate that Romeo-India and Uniform-Kilo are two separate codes. Therefore, they have two separate meanings, and it so happens that those codes do exist.
Per the International Code of Signaling:
Romeo-India (RI): “There is good holding ground in my area.” Uniform-Kilo (UK): “Pilot boat is most likely on bearing…from you.”
The UK combination could also be 43 in the same numerical code as the 0 is, which would mean either DC or (more likely) “Haul your wind on larboard tack” (basically, if the wind is blowing east, adjust your direction so you are heading SSE).
Therefore, I assume that what Mr. Krabs is trying to say in his message would roughly translate to “This is a good place to sit down and relax. Adjust your course a little and come on inside” or “This is a good place to sit down for a while. Someone will be along to assist you shortly.”
The Krusty Krab Conspiracy
Okay so you know how on The Krusty Krab there are flags on the front
Tumblr media
Right, so I remembered the other day that there is a Maritime Flag Language for sailors, and each flag has a different meaning, but when put together, they spell out a word. I have decided to figure out what it says.
Tumblr media
Mkay so here’s the thing this center flag
Tumblr media
does not exist so I can only assume that they are trying to mimic the first flag on the list? Also, the 4th one appears to be upside-down.
But what it says (if you assume it’s the first one) is Romeo-India-Alpha-Uniform-Kilo or RIAUK which, from detailed internet research, only seems to be a 43-year-old woman on a dating website I’ve never heard of. Since that is not a word, I am going to investigate into the ICS (International Code of Signal) flag meanings using Wikipedia.
So according to Wiki, it says
(Kay so Romeo doesn’t have an ICS meaning so we are off to a great start)-                                                                                                                     “I am altering my course to port.”-                                                                    “I have a diver down; keep well clear at slow speed.” -                                 “You are running into danger.”-                                                                         “I wish to communicate with you.”
So what we can gather from this is that the creators/artist for the classic series Spongebob Squarepants have absolutely no idea what the Maritime Flag Language is.

Trump's flagging campaign.
Tumblr media
August 29, 2024
For generations, the Right has monopolized our nation's icons and rhetoric, appropriating to themselves the exclusive use of words like "freedom," "patriot," and the "USA! USA!" chant. But also symbols like the bald eagle, the "Don't tread on me" rattlesnake and, most importantly, the American flag.
For example, Trump and his MAGA cult hypocritically decried Black football players taking a knee during the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner, to which they claim sole ownership. But GOPers believe they themselves are free to distort and defile any of our country's representations. Take freedom, for example. Republicans want to force the rest of us to define it like they do — Restricting women's bodily autonomy, allowing corporations unlimited license to pollute the environment, and mandating which books school children should be permitted to read.
Then there's the flag. MAGAs think it's their own, private banner which they can misuse however they wish, despite a federal law called the US Flag Code (USC 4 §1) that spells out exactly how it should be treated. For example, the law says the flag must never be displayed with the union down, "except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." Yet, as Faux News pointed out in June:
Supporters of former President Trump across the country flipped the American flag upside down after a New York jury's guilty verdict as a sign of protest to the perceived weaponization of the US legal system.
These MAGA-addled lawbreakers included RNC co-chair Lara Trump, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican donor Don Tapia and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
Republican vandals also flaunt US flags like the one pictured above, with pro-Trump slogans and his grinning mug plastered on it. Even though the Flag Code also states:
The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
However, the most egregious insult to this national emblem came on January 6, 2021, when MAGA thugs attacked US Capitol police using flagpoles with American flags as weapons. One of them, an Arkansas truck driver who beat a police officer with such as weapon was sentenced in 2023 to more than four years in prison.
Which is a welcome result. But it's also gratifying to see the Democrats at last reclaiming the symbols and language of Americanism. Especially the flag. Because, as newsman Dan Rather, points out, "Old Glory belongs to all of us. It's not a Trump flag or a Republican flag."
Please Note: WoW will be on vacation all next week and will return with more entertaining commentaries September 9.

The Disposition of American Flags
There are instances where we may want to “honor” someone by doing something that possibly violates the Flag Code due to ignorance. This article aims to eliminate that ignorance and inform on ways to truly honor the ones who served our country. Burning The American flag is a profound symbol of freedom and patriotism. Honoring a military veteran involves respecting that symbol and those that…

Editing because I finally had a few minutes to look it up.
Unfortunately, as best I can tell from even a cursory look on Wikipedia, this doesn't actually comply with the code, because the code *does* specify the arrangement, by saying "see attached" which has an explicit diagram.
The text of the original resolution pretty much also covers this, so long as you know that "a union" in vexology is the same as "a canton" in heraldry, and thus is *defined* as being a square or rectangle filling the upper left corner of the shield/flag.
Haven't found anything which specifies the hues/shades of red and blue yet, tho?
And, as should go without saying if you know me but anyway ... I still love the design and support trans people.

There's a lot of controversy in the media rn about Alito's "maga flag" and i know this post won't go far but I just need to clarify something
Hanging the US flag upside down is not actually a symbol of any specific Agenda in and of itself, it has been used many times for many reasons and it always has meant In Severe Distress
Tumblr media
Like, yeah, Alito flying it before the inauguration is definitely a clue to his biases and agenda, and regressives do sometimes use it to dog whistle about the country being "destroyed by wokeness" absolutely.
But it's not and has never been "a MAGA symbol" specifically, and has been seen in many protests for justice for a loooong time and frankly imo should be used a lot more

Flags of sovereign nations should be displayed at the same height on separate poles.
So my Zionist neighbors, who have a flag for the false state of Israel flying beneath an American flag, are confirming that Israel is not a real country by flying that flag beneath the Stars and Stripes as if it were a provincial or political banner.
Disrespecting the colors to own the libs.
