He was comfortable with her. He could make the sort of stupid comments that were only a little bit funny and made no sense. The kind one made when one didn’t have to weigh every word and worry about judgment or scorn.

First Comes Scandal Book Review
Tumblr media
First Comes Scandal
Author: Julia Quinn
Description: She was given two choices...
Georgiana Bridgerton isn't against the idea of marriage. She'd just thought she'd have some say in the matter. But with her reputation hanging by a thread after she's abducted for her dowry, Georgie is given two options: live out her life as a spinster or marry the rogue who has ruined her life.
Enter Option #3
As the fourth son of an earl, Nicholas Rokesby is prepared to chart his own course. He has a life in Edinburgh, where he's close to completing his medical studies, and he has no time -- or interest -- to find a wife. But when he discovers that Georgie Bridgerton -- his literal girl-next-door -- is facing ruin, he knows what he must do.
A Marriage of Convenience
Rating: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆
Review: Four books, four brothers and four vastly different stories. And now, the last one has come to its end. The Rokesby lineage closes its final chapter.
This last instalment of the Rokesby storyline, First Comes Scandal, began wonderfully. The easy setting, the quick build-up and the plot-line itself made the story entertaining and immersive.
I had long looked forward to reading about Georgianna Bridgerton, for her character is so uniquely her. Although, I must say, my surprise remained with me when her main love interest was revealed to be Nicholas Rokesby. For the longest time I thought it would be Andrew! Though I’m very happy it wasn’t in the end. I can imagine they would drive each other mad.
What makes Nicholas and Georgiana a great pair is how much understanding and respect they have for each other. Even if they jest or get angered, there’s a modicum of that high esteem remaining. The trope chosen for this novel displays that in phenomenal manner.
Nevertheless, there is a reason First Comes Scandal did not receive a higher score. It is far from outstanding, and to break my previous Rokesbys streak, less than seven out of ten stars, was a shame, really. The first half was highly amusing and up to previous standards. Yet…
There’s something about all Rokesby books that is too dragged out, too prolonged to be enjoyable. It usually happens somewhere in the middle, leaning toward the second-half of the story. However, First Comes Scandal stands out against it’s companion novels, for even after the usual “break” in pace, it made me lose complete interest around 80% down the line. It took me some time to resume my reading and what I found was predictable. The book didn’t end in an incredible plot-twist, nor something anywhere near surprising.
That is not to be said that I didn’t like it, because I did. Not as much as previous instalments, but it was sweet and on par with the general storyline. Thus just… the same for another 50 or so pages. Alas, it got a bit repetitive and boring – it’s easy predictability a major flaw in making the story liven up and regain its footing.
In conclusion, a decently good book, but sadly tapers down during its second half. Unsure if it’s the best ending to this series… Maybe Quinn would be up to another round of Rokesby novels?

Finished First Comes Scandal a few days ago. There are some many Polin parallels. Like…so many. There are some major differences particularly with Nicholas’ character versus Colin’s but they’re still very similar. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see some dialogue or similar plot points in season 3. Hello carriage scenes. I see you.

Lady Manston really went "I want you two *points at Billie and George* and you two *points at Georgie and Nicholas* to get together" and it actually happened and I respect the hell out of that.

I’m on the last book of the prequels to the Bridgerton series (First Comes Scandal) and I’m dying of laughter at Violet Bridgerton as a young mother. She’s always been my favorite character in the books (not as much in the show, but she’s still awesome.)
One of my absolute favorite conversations is between her and Georgiana talking about Edmund wanting to call the man out who impugned her honor. Georgie couldn’t believe he’d ever do it and Violet said “You’re his sister.” Of course, Julia Quinn did this on purpose because, well…Anthony and Simon and Daphne.
Second favorite Violet thing is “Colin is such a hungry baby I just don’t know what I’m going to do with him.”

Just finished “First Comes Scandal”  from JQ’s Bridgerton prequel series, and here are some of my thoughts.
Coming from the future to the past is honestly an experience. You can’t help but be drawn to what you know and what you loved.
Penelope and Colin’s book holds a very special place in my heart, but if I’m being honest Eloise and Phillip’s story is my favourite of the lot. Anyway, there’s something about the friends to lovers & slow burn/build trope that calls to me.
I think it might be the discovery of everything you never knew you wanted or needed being beside you all this time. It’s the unbearable rush of desire once you discover the barest hint of attraction for someone already so precious, that suddenly spirals into a frantic need to keep them forever with you in whatever way possible. (Oops, might have slipped into my SMB fanfic writer brain).
What I personally loved about Nicholas and Georgiana is that they are very clearly friends.
They know each other, like each other and honestly support each other and their interests. There’s no explosive drama with that ‘he said – she said’ accusation. They actually talk to each other. Sometimes it works out for the best, but sometimes one of them isn’t ready to listen. But rather than getting mad about it, they take a breath, step away from each other and when the other party is ready to listen, they try again.
For whatever reason, I find that very attractive.
In all honesty, I can be very harsh on female characters, despite sharing their same gender. So, it was not surprising that I absolutely adored Nicholas.
It was the way, Nicholas immediately charmed me with his sarcasm, wit, and disbelief at his father’s audacity in the very first chapter. The way he kept wondering if someone died, thinking nothing else could be as important, only to be told his father expected him to marry. I couldn’t stop smiling during the entire discussion.
Then we get to know Georgie and find she is literally a woman minding her business and some asshole decided to take his chances crashing her lane. I loved reading her conversation with her three cats and her cynical commentary about what happened.
Then the dinner scene and the lake scene with baby Ant & Ben, where Nick and Georgie are written properly interacting with each other. JQ did a brilliant job in proving the friendship aspect of their relationship. They were very obviously comfortable with one another, there was a trust between them, and I loved that.
But…. If I had to give an overall score…. I’d rate it 8.5/10.
I loved Nick and Georgie, they were a lovely read and had me laughing quite a bit. I loved reading how they navigated intimacy together, that was definitely attractive to me.
But I think when it comes to JQ, there’s a certain ‘oomph’ missing for me.
It might be because I prefer my romances with some darker characteristics that are borderline toxic (ahem… hence the existence of Seducing Mr Bridgerton), but this was a very pleasant read to tide me over as I wait for S3 of Bridgerton.
If I had to pick my favourite part from the book, it will definitely be Baby Colin. I admit that reading about Edmund and Violet was rather bittersweet because we know his fate. And I couldn’t help but wonder about the unwritten details of what happened. How did Georgie handle his death? How did Nick? Did Nick and Georgie have kids? I need more Auntie Georgie and Uncle Nick!!
Overall, I’m definitely proud to own a copy of ‘First Comes Scandal’ because I’ll definitely be re-reading it on rainy or lazy days where you just want the comfort of a healthy relationship.
Maybe I’ll write a comparison essay between ‘Romancing Mr Bridgerton’ and ‘First Comes Scandal’, just because their troupes are so alike but different.
Who knows, but I can 100% confirm, that reading this book helped soothe the withdrawal symptoms I’ve been suffering from the lack of Polin content. And it might do the same for you.

First Comes Scandal: Book Review
What happens when you put three cats in a moving carriage on a two week journey up north? This novel lets you know!
I seriously would have this book done even sooner than this, but I’m dogsitting and needs must. Anyway, here’s my thoughts, feelings, and rambles on....
Tumblr media
She was given two choices...
Georgiana Bridgerton isn’t against the idea of marriage. She’d just thought she’d have some say in the matter. But with her reputation hanging by a thread after she’s abducted for her dowry, Georgie is given two options: live out her life as a spinster or marry the rogue who has ruined her life.
Enter Option #3
As the fourth son of an earl, Nicholas Rokesby is prepared to chart his own course. He has a life in Edinburgh, where he’s close to completing his medical studies, and he has no time—or interest—to find a wife. But when he discovers that Georgie Bridgerton—his literal girl-next-door—is facing ruin, he knows what he must do.
A Marriage of Convenience
It might not have been the most romantic of proposals, but Nicholas never thought she’d say no. Georgie doesn’t want to be anyone’s sacrifice, and besides, they could never think of each other as anything more than childhood friends... or could they?
But as they embark upon their unorthodox courtship they discover a new twist to the age-old rhyme. First comes scandal, then comes marriage. But after that comes love...
 ______________________________________________________________
Snapshots of love, that’s what this book reminds me of. Nothing too terribly dramatic happens, and there are no grand misunderstandings to speak of either. It’s simply a series of moments, stitched together evenly in a display of two people falling in love.
I feel that at this current point in time, when everything seems so uncertain, bleak, and hopeless, this story is exactly what I needed. There’s really no angst to be found, just a series of hilarious, tender, and sweet moments as two people who never considered that they might love one another...begin loving one another. Sometimes, something as simple as a marriage of convenience story with a dash of a roadtrip and figuring out young love thrown in, is all you need.
I don’t know much else of what to say, except that it was just sweet and hit that spot of serotonin I needed so desperately. The characters made me smile, they made me laugh, and even though there wasn’t too terribly much to the plot, none of that mattered because I was so incredibly happy to be with them.
The only downside to this is that it is probably going to become a little forgettable to me in the passing weeks. I’ve found that this newest series Quinn is writing is not as memorable as her Bridgerton novels, but I will say that this newest novel is my favorite out of the series so far. (Speaking of Bridgertons, little Anthony, Benedict, and even baby Colin make an appearance in this one. As do a young and and very much in love Violet and Edmund.)
