I saw a post on Pinterest (sorry OP, the username was cut off) about Dean giving the first blade to Cas. They were asking why Dean didn’t kill Crowley before handing the blade over.

In my opinion, he very intentionally did not use the first blade on Crowley. If he was really living Cain’s life backwards, killing Crowley is the only major kill between him and killing Cas.

I think that Dean thought about killing Crowley — it would’ve been easy for him to do. But I think he was afraid of what would come after that. He had no way of knowing if he’d be able to hand over the blade after killing Crowley…he couldn’t risk it. He left room to make sure he never killed Cas.
