Over on Bluesky the other day I mentioned how working in wildland fire makes it very hard to look at real estate without immediately thinking about how the house would burn (since I look at a lot of woodland properties), and @gallusrostromegalus mentioned how they miss my weird real estate series and that it might be fun to bring that back a bit with "bad fire environment choices."

So! I'm gonna start sharing those when I come across them. I don't really look as much anymore, since I did finally buy a house last year, but I do still poke around sometimes to see what's out there.

The new series will be tagged as "Firey Real Estate".

Now, let me preface this on saying that I'm not, like, a full on expert in house safety when it comes to wildfires, but I know the basics. So. Let's kick it off with a few places I found poking around Colorado today!

I actually really love the look of this house, and it isn't the WORST. But it has some issues. Two big structural issues stand out to me: the house has open eves (the area under the edges of the roof where you can see the beams) which provides A LOT of places for floating embers to get stuck and start your house on fire. Also, some of the roof slopes are too shallow to effectively shed embers that land on them.

Second issue is the deck, a very large surface area that embers can get caught. They also haven't extended the gravel all the way to the edge of the underside of the deck, which means fire could get up under the deck, especially to those few wood poles that aren't encased in stone.

They've also stacked firewood against the house, which is a big no no.

Ruddy Turnstone Prophecy And Symbolism

Whether the Ruddy Turnstone appears in dreams, visions, waking life or synchronicities, it is a sign and message that the tables have turned. If you've been uplifting others for years and supporting them, it is Now your turn to be supported. This isn't by force but by grace.

7) What element would your OC be?

Robbie is kinda loud and outgoing, just sorta overly energetic and lively to be around - so something firey definitely suits him! 

Also like.... LIGHT SYMBOLISM HNYEH

Jacob is a much more secluded individual - he likes his space and a chance to just be alone with the world. He would’ve been a fan of the forests around the Flores estate, so an old foresty spirit is the sort of vibe this gives me .

10) What deadly sin would best represent your OC?

hh it was hard to sort of figure these ones out, but Robert is pride, especially when he’s younger. 

He initially takes a lot of power and happiness from his family’s standing, and the luxuries he’s been afforded in life (though he’s not aware at the time that these are luxuries). It’s a sort of childish naivety that he’s just been allowed to harbour for so long that he never really questioned it. 

Effectively the opposite, Jacob is envy - both of his younger brother and of others as a whole. He was forced to grow up too soon, and seeing that other people have never had to experience the same sort of things as him is frustrating - kind of a mix of the idea that people will never really get it, and that he’s pissed he missed out on just an average childhood. 

34) What social groups and activities does your character attend? What role do they like to play? What role do they actually play , usually?

(I cannot believe that I’ve made this boy a jock what the hell have I done? Himbo rights tho ig???) 

I stand by the notes I made two days into the game that Robert is successful at quidditch almost entirely by dumb luck and has only once intentionally done something tactically beneficial for the team. 

So Robbie is on the quidditch team, and he takes part in the school choir - in both of these settings he is the absolute mum friend, which plays a lot into his later career as a healer. He just... wants people to be happy and well, though I can see him trying to tone it down a notch once people start pointing it out (this does not go well when Skye inevitably gets nailed in the face with a bludger and Robbie tries to call off an entire house match)

Jacob: I will cause problems on purpose!! I will destroy Snape’s reputation as head of Slytherin!!

Also Jacob: Ok but actually I have anxiety and would rather not... Hey hey guys maybe this is a bad idea and I really cannot risk getting expelled over this - WE HAVE AN EXAM TOMORROW REALLY I DONT THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA

In a similar way to his brother, Jacob is definitely trying to keep his friends out of harms way, but at the same time... if its gonna be funny, you need someone there who’s able to tell the story later at least. (So he’s a shit-stirrer, but he will keep you from getting yourself killed)

41) What does your character do when they’re angry? Why?

Most of the time Robbie gets super cold. Part of is to try and prevent anything spiraling into a bigger conflict, but most of it is because he’s a petty child. This brat man will not let you win until months have passed, and even then he’s not actually going to acknowledge it.

If it’s something a lot more serious and threatening though, I figure he’s willing to completely cut people out without a second’s notice.

Jacob on the other hand just gets very emotional - it’s annoying because its one of those things where you’re mad, so you don’t want to be comforted by anyone because you’re PISSED, but now you’re crying and you can’t explain that actually these are angry tears and I’m going to unplug your fridge sir so don’t you dare.

He’s just a real one to bottle everything up and then explode everything in an ugly mess that no one can really escape from.

A Mini Meta: What’s In A Name? (1.5/?)

So Like, I do a bunch of research for my metas and in pursuit of this one, I’ve had to learn wayyyy too much about each character’s name and meanings/origins. But because there’s no real place for me to put them in my planned metas, and I still have all this information to info-dump, here it is! A master list of all the character’s >probable< meanings. Consider this a Mini-Meta.

Our Ineffable Duo

Aziraphale:

Note: Azrael, a possible interpretation of his name, means “one who God helps” and is often attributed to the Angel of Death.  

Anthony J. Crowley:

The elephant in the room with Crowley is “Crawley” and all I’m going to say about it is that Crowley’s right, it’s too “crawling on the ground-y sounding”.

Anthony, on the other hand, means “of inestimable worth”, which I feel is a good balance to his deadname. Crowley deserves this and every ego boost. Someone give him a hug.

The name “Crowley”’s meaning is at most Gaelic for heroic, although from a demonic standpoint, there is also no one-for-one model. There is an Aleister Crowley but he’s a real person who is known as the “evilest man to ever live” or some such moniker. But there is no connection between the demon and the person. I’d even argue that by giving himself a “J”  Crowley puts distance between himself and Aleister.

Note: Although Supernatural also sports a “Crowley” character, Good Omens predates the TV-Show and so no connection can honestly be made.

The Them

Adam Young:

Adam’s name has many significant implications beyond just sharing it with the first man and first person to leave Eden. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell ya’ll that in Akkadian, the word stems from the word “Adamu” which translates to “to make”. And I find this phenomenally relevant to his naming and unnaming powers.

Pippin “Pepper” Moonchild:

I have SOOOO much to say about the implications of nicknames, but for this mini-meta, I’ll just leave you with this: Pippin loosely means foreigner, and while that doesn’t really connect with her character much, neither does the name Pippin so I feel that works.

Pepper, however, simply means “berry”, but I think on a much more literal level the name “Pepper” refers to her firey and passionate sensibilities.

Brian I-Couldn’t-Find-A-Last-Name:

Brian loosely means “noble one” and given he’s ready to throw down against even his best friend if it meant saving the world and standing up to an all-powerful 11-year-old with immeasurable supernatural abilities with a crow-bar. I’d call that pretty noble.

Jeremy Wensleydale:

This name took an outrageous amount to time for me to research. I’m not touching Jeremy, because literally, no one calls him it, it has no power over him. Wensleydale, however, refers to a real place in England, apparently, they’re known for their cheeses. Here, “dale” refers to a town and “Wensley” is valley named after the god “Woden” AKA Odin, AKA Norse god of wisdom and culture and war. Which Idk how closely he’s related to Odin, I do think the wisdom and class resonate with Wensleydale’s character. Of all the Them, he’s the most bookish, and most overt with his love of books.

The Angels

Michael:

Literally means “Who is like God” in Hebrew, and is the only named Archangel in the Bible. I find it interesting that this name is meant to be a rhetorical question, meaning no one is like God. However, Heaven clearly has, let’s say, ignored this question and ruled as if they are God.

Gabriel:

God’s Messanger, whose name means “God is my strength”, which, I think he takes to an extreme. Yes, he clearly gets his power from his belief God has ordained a war he will win, but more than that, he also seems convinced that all of his >abusive< actions are blessed by God, despite the series making it very clear, she isn’t talking to anyone.

Uriel:

“God is My Light”.  Like Gabriel, I find this name infinitely amusing because yes, Uriel has a fiery personality like Pepper, short-tempered, and ready for a fight, little they do is actually from the mouth of God. Uriel is also closely associated with Noah’s Ark, reportedly being the angel who warns Noah and his family of the impending flood. Although we can’t know if they did or did not question killing the kids like Crowley and Aziraphale did, as it wasn’t on screen, based on their other actions, I’m gonna say no.

Sandalphon:

Note: It’s interesting that his name is wholly dependent on the existence of “brothers” and implies he serves as a mirroring character...of whom idk yet.

Metatron:

Although MANY theologians have argued over the meaning of this name, the most popular definition means “beside the throne”, and refers to the person next to God’s Throne. This works well as he is shown to be the mediator between God’s word and the Angels. This is less good because he clearly hasn’t talked to, or isn’t willing to let others talk to God.

The Demons

Ligur:

So, Ligur is not a canonical demon. Consequently, his name has no set meaning. He’s not a “real” demon with a 1-for-1 equivalent floating through Hell. My best guess is that it’s a reference to a Chuthulu Mythological Race “Lloigor” which is known for being invisible, but when they do show themselves, are distinctly reptilic. Which, I think vibes well with the chameleon on top of his head.  

Hastur:

Note: A strict etymological breakdown of the name is associated with “chaos” and is meant to denote one who revels in destruction for destruction’s sake. It’s also very fitting for Hastur, given his desire to cause fiery chaos.  Like Metatron, there are many interpretations you can find here: (x).

Beelzebub:

Note: Beelzebub is a real demon with a fascinating mythos you can read more about here (x). Seriously, ya’ll I have a million citations, please hmu if you want more info.

Note 2: Also! Also! Also, Beezlebub makes an appearance in Lovecraftian stories and Chuthulu mythos.

Dagon:

Note: Dagon makes a few appearances in Lovecraft’s work...there’s a short story called “Dagon”... and while they’re often not included in the Chuthulu mythos, the short story “Dagon” is the first to introduce Chuthulu-like elements...so? #canon in my eyes.  

The Humans

Anathema Device:

Anathema is pretty straight forward. The name refers to someone who is detested or shunned. But more Bible-related-y Anathema refers either to something that was consecrated or to someone denounced as evil or accursed and therefore set aside for sacrificial offering. Which, is pretty much the role of Anathema. Her family has chosen to sacrifice her and her freedom in exchange to stop the end of the world. While I wouldn’t call her evil or cursed, she is definitely detested (as a witch) by the Witchfinders and Adultery Pulsifer.  

Agnes Nutter:

Alternatively: Agnes Sampson was a Scottish healer and purported witch known as the "Wise Wife of Keith". Sampson was burned in the North Berwick witch trials.

Alternatively: Agnes Waterhouse was the first person executed for witchcraft in England (1566). However, she was hanged, not burned like Sampson and Nutter.

Newton Pulsifer:

Like the character himself, Newton’s name is pretty unremarkable. It means “New Town”. Not much depth to his name. However, a “Newt” does have some religious imagery attached to its name. It supposedly symbolizes rebirth and renewal, which flows with his character arc.

Madame Tracy:

Tracy refers to “Warrior” and can sometimes mean “superior to” and “more powerful”. All of these seem to fit with a woman willing to share her body with an Angel and stand at the end of the world without flinching. Also, she clearly overrode Aziraphale’s choice to shoot a child and refused to do something she couldn’t and wouldn’t do. she’s a badass.  

Shadwell:

Shadwell means a shallow spring, but it is also a place in West London. Given Shadwell’s naming strategies I’d actually not be too surprised if he just named himself after a street name he saw. He’s not too creative.

Warlock Dowling:

Warlock means “Deceiver” and like if that’s not his life story. Through no real fault of his own, he spends the first 11 years of his life as the prophecized Anti-Christ by Heaven, Hell, and our ineffable Duo. I suppose you could say he deceived them, but really, I think it’s hilariously on the nose as he’s the not-Anti-Christ.

Harriet Dowling:

Harriet is of French origin, and means “estate ruler” and as the diplomat’s wife, I think it’s fair to say she rules the huge estate we see in the series.  

Thaddeus Dowling:

Thaddeus is likely Greek meaning “heart” and surprisingly (maybe only to me) in the Gospel of Matthew, appears as one of the apostles, although later in the Gospel the name “Jude” is also mentioned, and likely is referencing the same person.  

Sister Mary Loquacious:

“Mary” often translates to beloved or rebellious, while Loquacious refers to “talkative” which, man. I kinda love it, because she’s one of the characters who not only talks alot (relative to her short time on-screen) but also is a sweetheart.

Diedre Young:

Diedre is a young Gaelic princess who died of a broken heart, although its etymology could also just mean “young girl”.  Little is relevant to the larger arching story.

Arthur Young:

“Arthur” is Celtic for King, and legends from the round table (and some references from Ep. 3) aside, little about his name seems relevant to the story.

I don’t often do this outside my own head, but Overwatch: Retribution has got me feeling too many feels to keep inside. Hold onto to your pants, because I have a lot of thoughts and theories.

We start off with Gabe sitting in a hospital room, beanie off, watching a medical bot work. “Eight Years Ago” puts us about a year before the events of “Uprising” and the end of Overwatch’s “golden years” seven-ish years before the “current” time, game wise.

Then, we are slightly back in time, to Gérard Lacroix giving our favorite Blackwatch Commander and McCree a ?tour? of a brand spanking new building where “we shall bring them down.” The painters haven’t even been by to slap an Overwatch logo on every flat surface yet it’s so new. We see movers packing/unpacking/moving boxes, and Gabe clocks one female box pusher.

I think this is an important thing to note about Gabe’s character. Yes, the obvious plotline of  “something’s not right here/with someone” but also, I think, something more subtle.

Gabe is clearly relaxed, or, not on edge here. He feels safe. Yet, two highly trained operatives don’t give our mystery box lady another glance. Gérard is clearly a man who knows how to gather intel. McCree is a very capable black operations operator. They both sense nothing is wrong. Yet, Gabe does. Could it be some SEP super soldier senses? Perhaps, but I think it’s more than that. Even when he is “safe,” Gabe is in protection mode. He’s noticing something about a woman with her hat pulled low, keeping to herself. Whatever it was, he clocked her, but didn’t stop her.

Now, let me divert from the story, and get to Gabe and how he carried himself here. He’s a military veteran, a war hero, and pretty much an all around badass. Yet look how he conducts himself: He defers to Gérard’s skills and information. He doesn’t suddenly come in and demand to make a collar. He understands that if things were that simple, it would have been done already. He doesn’t try to take anything away from Gérard and his team’s clearly hard work. IN FACT, Gabe says NOTHING while Gérard explains the situation and plan. McCree speaks, TWICE. In fact, Gérard and Jesse are both standing in front of Gabe, putting him behind them. You’d think the one in charge would be out front, but no. Gabe lets Gérard run the show, and Jesse do the talking. Gabe is taking everything in.

A subordinate speaks, offers a plan, but doesn’t push, only wonders why it hasn’t been done, and when the idea is rebuffed, that’s the end of it. There is no pissing contest between ANY of these three men. They are all on the same team.

The only thing Gabe says in the “official” part of the meeting is to say that he CAN’T WAIT TO WORK WITH HIM (Gérard) AGAIN. He doesn’t say “can’t wait to command you again” or “have you on my team” or anything like that. Gabe sees Gérard as someone on par with him, and in this case, the authority on our new Talon bad guy.

Gabe conducts himself with poise and dignity. He is not some military hardass demanding everyone defer to him. He is not some glory/title seeking/ladder climber. He’s a man comfortable with command, but also knows his limits.

After the meeting, we get, what I think, is probably the three best character information/reactions we’ve had on ANY character, and we get it for Gabe and Jesse.

LOOK AT THIS. Just look! This is a pair of dorks talking about a silly story about the time Gérard saved Gabe’s bacon, and Gabe is seemingly LAUGHING at himself, or the situation he found himself in the story. Not only that, Jesse is LAUGHING AT HIS COMMANDING OFFICER. That’s not something that’s done. You don’t go into work and laugh at your boss. Clearly, Gabe while “off duty” is close with Jesse. Close enough to tell him what is probably an embarrassing story, and close enough to let the kid point and laugh at him without taking it personally, or as an affront. He is giving him The Shrug™, seemingly uncaring.

Now, look at this:

Gabe is relaxed, happy, he’s had a good laugh, and he’s clearly in the middle of a fond memory or thought. This is the face of a man who is perfect in every way. Whoops. My fangirl slipped out. This is the face of a man who is comfortable and at ease.

And so is this. 

Gabriel Reyes and Jesse McCree clearly have more than a Commander-subordinate relationship. They are friends. The extent and depth of that friendship is debatable, but it’s clear it is substantial. They feel comfortable enougn in each other’s presents to let their guards down. McCree is comfortable laughing at him. Gabe is comfortable with Jesse laughing at him. There is no animosity. I can’t tell you how amazing it is to see them have a real friendship like this, and not just generic “commander and student.”

The happiness doesn’t last long. (skipping a few pages that will be covered shortly) The building blows, and Gabe’s first reaction is to sprint back inside, into the flames. And Jesse is right on his heels. Neither of them try to stop each other, neither seem to fear for their own safety. They are the first responders.

God, it says so much about the both of them, where do I start? They are both intensely loyal, both to their people, and each other. They could have stayed back, could have called in emergency responders. Hell, Gabe’s a pretty damn high ranking officer, yet he risked his life for his friend, and who knows how many more times Gabe went back in and pulled more people out at great risk to himself? And Jesse, without the blessings of SEP, was right there with his commander, pulling out poor mover guy, who probably wasn’t even an Overwatch member, just someone doing their job.

On the next page, we see a dozen caskets. Gabe is back at HQ with Jack. Gabe’s clearly upset, motioning to the caskets and telling Jack “We can’t walk away from this.”

Now here, I want to point out that Jack is draping flags over the agents’ coffins BY. HIMSELF. There are no cameras, press, or hell, even other agents. This is not a glory moment to be seen “being the dutiful Strike-Commander laying to rest his agents.” This is a man who is dealing with grief and, most likely, guilt. He kneels beside a coffin, placing one flag on it, and unfolds it. From the first shot, most of the coffins are draped already, yet, Jack seems to only be holding one flag. Meaning: that he is going through a ritual of getting a flag, returning, unfolding, and draping it. Then repeats it with the next. If he wanted expedancey, he could have grabbed a dozen flags at once. But he didn’t. Jack has chosen the long way, giving each agent his full attention and the full ritual. Even talking with Gabe can’t make him break it. As Gabe carries on about what needs to be done, Jack is unfolding and smoothing out the flag, contemplating. It says a lot about him, and how he takes his role. This isn’t a man in it for the glory. He’s a man deeply grieved at so senseless a loss of life.

Gabe is clearly passionate about the course of action he feels they need to take. He sees what needs to be done. And Jack sees that it could all blow up in their faces. They both trade good points, and Jack seems to temper Gabe. He comes down from his glares and hot words, he kneels with Jack, somber, helping him drape the flag over the coffin. It’s a humbling thing. Gabe has his eyes closed, his speech feels less firey, and more grieved. He says “if we don’t do something, you’re going to need more flags.” Simple and powerful. He doesn’t want to go after Talon because of glory, or pride. He doesn’t want to see anymore people in body bags that shouldn’t be. He doesn’t want to ship agents home for the last time to grieving families.

And now, here, I get a little fangirl-y. But here me out:

Jack, in the middle of a moment of deep, heartfelt grief, chose to share it with Gabe. Not with cameras, which surely would make him look noble and comforting to a grieving populous. He doesn’t choose to be isolated. He chooses to allow Gabe to witness this moment of vulnerability. Gabe’s rhetoric and plans of what was to be done could have waited until Jack was finished. It probably should have waited. Honestly, moments of grief and not a good time to make world altering decisions. But Jack allowed Gabe to say his piece, and then, together, they finished the job.

Now, we get to some interesting panels. 

After Gabe says his line about needing more flags, we get a close up of Jack’s pensive face, clearly deep in thought. And next, we have something I find curious.

We have a close up of Jack’s left hand on the Overwatch logo, in the middle of the coffin, and he calls Gabriel by his nickname “Gabe.” An affectionate nickname, might I add, only Jack has called him. Everyone one else calls him Gabriel, Reyes, or Commander Reyes. (I’m discounting Sombra because she’s not here at this point in the story, and I don’t believe she calls him it purely out of affection, but that’s another story). I find it curious for a few reasons. Comics don’t get a lot of room to work. They have a very tight budget of what they can, and can’t, fit in. That’s why every inch is storyboarded and debated and trimmed and worked to say as MUCH as it can. So then, with the 8 pages, ONLY EIGHT pages, allocated to this comic, why was pressious real estate given to a, on the surface, meaningless panel?

Let's look at it a little closer. If they just wanted to get across Jack pondering Gabe’s words, the panel before did that just fine. This panel shows no movement, doesn’t even show a character’s face or reaction. Jack’s not reaching for a weapon, or some bauble of importance, he is just laying his hand on the coffin. His left hand. It could mean that he’s left handed, and this is his dominant hand, but if that’s all it was, why the limited space wasted just to show us that? It means something.

In writing and film, you don’t focus on the unimportant. If you show your audience something, it’s because it’s meaningful. So if Jack isn’t reaching for something of importance, is it the act of him covering the Overwatch logo that’s important? His next line is “I can’t officially sanction something like this.” Was him covering the logo supposed to show shame? Shame that he can’t do anything about this officially? Shame that he’s considering allowing something to happen off the books when Overwatch is supposed to be a beacon of justice? Could be, but that doesn’t seem like something Jack would feel. He’s been in war, he’s been on a special ops team.

He knows you have to play dirty. Seems odd, given his war history, that he would feel shame allowing Gabe to do what needs to be done, something I’m sure he feels needs to be done as well. He’s got no doubts this Antonio and/or Talon is behind this, but his hands are tied. So, if it’s not that he’s left handed or ashamed, what if what we’re supposed to notice is that it’s his left hand? The left hand is traditionally the hand a wedding band is worn on. The last panel we saw Jack’s hand(s) it was only the right one, and it was on the edge of the coffin, away form the logo at the center. We can’t see his left. But it’s clear that Jack reached out and placed his hand in the center of the coffin. He called out to Gabe, and was reaching for him.… meeting him in the middle. He was compromising. He told Gabe that he could choose, and that Jack would back whatever play Gabe called. BUT, with the condition that Gabe ask himself “In the long run, will this help Overwatch keep the world safe?”

In a relationship, you allow someone in to see you at your most vulnerable, you listen to them, take their advice and counsel, and you compromise. I honestly feel like this entire scene was a married couple comforting each other in a moment of intense grief in their own ways.

When we see Gabe again, he’s back in Gérard’s hospital room, and he looks the most defeated. We’ve seen him three times now, the first, he looked concerned, the second, angry, and now, he hangs his head. His conversation with Jack echos in his head. “No one will know Blackwatch was there.” He gets Jack’s okay, with the condition. “Will this help Overwatch keep the world safe?”

Smoke and souls aside, I think these panels show the exact moment Gabe makes a mental shift to Reaper. Let's break them down.

As Gabe mulls over what to do, mulls over what Jack asked, he is thinking of four things:

1. An Overwatch coffin.

2. Gérard’s heart beating.

3. Running back into a burning building.

4. Jack.

He’s thinking of the people needlessly buried, lives lost and other lives destroyed. He’s thinking of his friend, a man he respects, laying in critical, but stable condition. He’s thinking of the people he saved, and perhaps the ones he couldn’t. And he’s thinking of the man that means the most to him.

This coupled with what we’ve seen of Gabe before, leads me to believe this about him: Gabe is a highly protective and loyal person.

Talon has attacked his people, his family. Talon made this personal. Talon hit Gabe where it hurt, and he isn’t going to allow that. Gabe’s been shown to be able to be objective and distant when he needs to be. He is calm and cool under pressure. But all this time, he’s been passionate, about what needs to be done, about agonizing over if he should hit back. And this, this moment, is the beginning of the end.

But not for the reason you may be thinking.

Let me remind you, Jack asked Gabe if “this would help Overwatch keep the world safe.” Now, yes, taking a bad guy in for questioning is a GOOD thing. It will help them take down badness and stuff.

But let's also remember: If Blackwatch is caught, it could literally ruin everything good Overwatch has ever done. The good will they have worked so hard to earn will be erased.

So, in this moment, everything boils down to this: Is revenge a good enough reason to possibly destroy Overwatch? Gabe glares, the soft, relaxed expressions we’ve been shown are long gone.

He has chosen yes.

And here’s why: Gabe cares about his people, his family, more than the rest of the world. He is going to get retribution, he’s going to hit Talon back hard, he’s going to send a message, and he doesn’t care what the repercussions are. He’s only thinking of the people close to himself, not others outside of Overwatch. Notice the theme of what he’s thinking of? The dead agents, Gérard, saving people in the fire, and Jack. All people within Overwatch, and they all seem important to him. Gabe is going to do what is best for his people, end of story. They are where his loyalties lay.  

And that’s the fundamental shift to Reaper. Not an event, or experiment gone wrong (or right), but the way he views the world: “I’m getting revenge for my people, fuck the world” and then a few years later “I’m getting my revenge, fuck the world.”

That’s the split between him and Jack that might have led to their estrangement and strained relationship. Jack wants to do what’s best in the long run, for everyone. And if that means turning the other cheek for a while, until they CAN do something about it, so be it. Gabe wants blood for blood, and he wants it now.

Quite and interesting idea if you think about it. Jack was described as an “act first” type of soldier, where Gabe was the tactiation, always ten moves ahead. Yet, when it comes to loved ones, Jack is the one thinking of the long term, and Gabe seems to be thinking in the short.

The gathering of the team is pretty self explanatory. But we get another glimpse about what’s important to Gabe in the panel showing his office and the holo-screen/wall thing and his desk.

There is a bunch of intel on Antonio, what looks like a villa (probably the new/reskinned map we’ll have in the event) but, if you look to the left, there is one that’s not like the others.

It’s a picture of Jack. It seems to be of a Strike-Commander Morrison skinned S76, standing outside the little doorway by the first large healthpack on the Watchpoint: Gibraltar map.

It’s way out of place. Look at the other photos. All of them seem to have red boxed text on them Information? News banners? Something? The only one without the red boxes is the photograph of Jack. That has no border, or text, or boxes. It leads me to believe that it’s a personal photograph. Since Gabe and Jack have been more or less inseparable, and given the place of prominence, I think we can conclude that Gabe was the one to take the picture. And it holds a lot of significance to him. This seems to be his personal office, the one where the team knows where to gather to be briefed.

Now, if it wasn’t just the picture, take a look at where it’s located. It seems to be a holographically projected screen, meaning, anyone can see it. So, if anyone can see it, that means everyone can see that the Blackwatch Commander has a very personal looking photo of the Strike-Commander just hanging out on his holoscreen where it can be easily viewed at all times.

MEANING, if anyone can see it, it’s not a secret.

This is backed up when Jesse walks into the office, and doesn’t comment on said photo. Shouldn’t he have when Jack’s photo is hanging out alongside intel on a Talon badguy? Gabe makes no motion to turn off the screen, or explain away the photo, and Jesse makes no comment. It’s a non-issue. Could he have been distracted by other things and not noticed it? Of course. Could it be that Jesse noticed it, but was too worried/uncomfortable to mention it? Also possible, but doubtful. Just a few pages ago he was pointing and laughing at Gabe, and both seemed to find it a good joke. Like I laid out before, they seem to have a pretty deep friendship. I don’t think Jesse would have felt pressured NOT to ask about the photo.

So then, could it be that Jack’s photograph in a intelligence file about someone who is the center of a Blackwatch operation isn’t unexpected? That the Strike-Commander possibly being tied to a “hotbed of illegal activity” isn’t something new to Jesse? Could be. We know there is some kind of “eye conspiracy” floating around. Gabe COULD suspect that Jack is somehow involved with being a double agent, or maybe even a Talon mole. Stranger things have happened. But again, with their history going back long before Overwatch, and perhaps even pre-Talon in its current form, it would be odd that Gabe wouldn’t know if his war buddy (or lover, or bff, or whatever you want to believe they are) is a Talon mole.

The fact that Jack’s picture is on display for all to see, Jesse makes no mention of it, and Gabe doesn’t care if Moria or Genji see it, says a lot.

First, that him HAVING a personal picture of Jack does not warrant any special attention or comment from the members of his team. It’s EXPECTED.

Second; that it’s someplace easily seen, separated from the intel, and not covered by red text (or even comic dialogue) means that Gabe WANTS TO SEE IT. Gabe’s chair is even POINTING RIGHT AT IT. As if he was looking at it before getting up to talk to Jesse. This isn’t some random photo in a stack that’s poking out to tease us. Look at Gabe’s desk, the intel on screen. Everything in nice neat rows, organized, fouced. Everything is where it should be. He’s working his case… with Jack there looking on. Like a spouse's photo on someone’s desk at work.

Of the last two things, the first is the big juxtaposition pieces. Jack on the left, looking back at the coffins, Gabe on the right, walking away.

You don’t have to stretch much for this one. There is a literal divide between them, the panel border itself becomes part of the story, cutting them off from one another. Jack is standing in darkness (look at the light around him, he can see it, yet he’s willingly standing “in the dark”) And Gabe, literally turning his back on him, walking away, into hellish red light. This is the metaphorical frying pan being bashed into our heads. This is the moment that split them apart. Maybe no one noticed at first, maybe even they didn’t, but it was there, and things just exacerbated into the fall we know today. But THIS. This moment, this choice Gabe made, it’s the true end of the Golden Age.

And finally, the hood.

All comic, the hood has been down. Gabe has either worn the beanie, or let his fuzzy head free. (RIP fanon undercut Reyes. I will miss you and your curls!) Gabe has been “open” without the hood. The beanie is like more armor, when he’s without it, it shows his hair (lack thereof, or even receding hairline, but all of that could just be the artist’s style) and leaves him vulnerable. He wears the beanie while out, but when he comes home, when he’s with Jack and Jesse, in the hospital, in his own office, he’s without that bit of armor.

Up until the end. When he leaves for his mission, when he leaves the safe harbor of home, of the man he loves, the hood goes up. He becomes someone different when the hood is on. And no, I don’t just mean Reaper. I mean, that happy, comfortable, passionate man we’ve been shown, leaves. And someone else, Blackwatch Reyes, he comes out. The shadows mimicking the Reaper mask just solidifies the idea that there are two sides to Gabe. The “real” him, the protective, caring, loving man, and the “mask” the cold, vengeful commander out for blood.

So please, just leave me alone to die, because I can’t handle all the feelings this comic has given me.

Full of Bounce: She has every reason in the world to be an angry, spiteful person. Born a bastard-child from an affair her mother had during her noble husband’s time away fighting a war, she would spend most of her childhood living the cold, dirty life of a servant, working in the Estate’s Kitchen, mistreated and abused by the Cook and kitchen staff that knew of her lineage, and also had a distaste for a Keeper family holding an Estate in their Elezen City.  Abused, hidden and mistreated, growing up in a cold estate with a quick to temper and abusive Lord, the only bright spots in her day were the cookies and games the Lord’s young son, Shiro would bring to her.  He tried to teach her what he knew, shared books, mended her scraps, all without knowing she was his sister, but needing someone to take care of and feel important over since his own life was a torture of a different nature. Over time, she learned that smiles, and cookies and unrelenting cheer could dissolve the tension of almost any situation.  

Firey: That’s not to say she’s not quick to anger or joy or sorrow.  Everything about her burns.  She’s quick to anger and love, emotional and spunky.  Her aether burns in elemental fire.  She’s a powerful Fire-monk but learning to weave her magic’s with her husband’s help into potent sorcery now too.   

Protective: Her husband and brother might spend almost all their time trying to keep her safe but in many ways, she’s the true Lioness and protector of their family.  From a supportive, peacekeeping nurturing side where she can gently edge them into making themselves better and bringing prosperity to the Estate, to sometimes taking a more forward approach, grabbing the Reigns and heading off on her own, knowing they will follow her in their own over-protectiveness.  She has made deals, crossed enemy lines, risked her everything to keep her Love and Brother safe.

Time for more firey real estate!

Okay. Lots going on here. But it has one of my biggest pet peeves in real estate: trees in the middle of porches. Because WHY. Not only is this a bad idea when it comes to fire safety, it's just a bad idea in general??? Like. That tree is GOING to die some day, and you just made it 1000 times harder to get it out of there without destroying your deck. Also. Trees move in this thing called WIND, so what exactly is your hopes for that deck on a stormy day?

But getting back to wildfire safety.

The trees in general are WAY too close to this house, not just the one that's actually growing through the deck. All these trees need cut down away from the structure, by at least fifty feet. (And that's fifty feet from the widest part of their CROWNS, not where their trunk is.)

Also, the deck needs to be fully enclosed, preferably with something like rock.

On the other hand, that rock actually provides a fair amount of protection, so that's a nice bonus. It'll at least stop a ground fire coming from that specific direction.

But also. It has this weird little double loft thing going on and I love it. IMAGINE a reading-nook up in the tiny loft, curling up by the windows with a heated blanket in a pile of pillows while it snows outside. Glorious.

ethan mcfarland - fc: skeet ulrich - age 55 - lawyer - pretty chill dude until he’s in a court room, then he’s ruthless. lorelai was heavily doted on by him over the other grandkids before gavin came into the picture bc ethan felt like she needs a male influence around, he still loves lorelai and dotes on her quite a bit but he’s pulled back some to let her and gavin bond. he prolly pulled gavin off by themselves the first time that everly brought him over and he wanted to check him out & prolly told him that if he hurt her or lorelai, he’s dead. he prolly was impressed by him and thinks he and evie are good together. ethan and holly have lorelai sleep over once a week (prolly sat night bc when they’d try and get the fam together would be sunday) so everly and gavin can have time to themselves. prolly closest to the twins.

charlotte mcfarland - fc: phoebe tonkin - age 30 - bakery chef - was heavily into partying and had no real focus before she got pregnant, char isn’t sure of who her son’s dad is and doesn’t care to find out, she and evie aren’t very close but they’re trying bc lorelai is in awe of her little cousin and is very sweet with him, char’s son is named phillip and he’s deaf & two years old, pretty much the whole family is learning/has learned asl. didn’t used to be close to any of the fam, now working towards evie and holly being the closest.

declan mcfarland - fc: matthew daddario - age 27 - firefighter - eternal bachelor. rarely goes to family events. was the only one of the fam who didn’t visit evie when she was in the hospital from nate’s attack - said he could see anyone else but his family in a messed up situation but not his fam. never wants kids, lorelai calls him “mr. firey” instead of uncle declan. twins w/ milo. closest with his dad and twin.

milo mcfarland - fc: chris wood - age 27 - activist - always travelling, sleeps in evie’s extra bedroom when he’s in town, had a girl get an abortion in hs that everly accidentally found out about + milo really regrets it, lorelai calls him “uncle meme”. keeps in touch best w/ evie and his twin.

stella (nee mcfarland) vasquez - fc: alycia debnam carey - age 25 - housewife tbh and evie’s v disappointed about this - met her husband, angelo (alberto rosende) in college and dropped out of college in her final year to attempt to get pregnant right after they married. they can’t get pregnant and angelo and stella had been trying to talk evie into being a surrogate for awhile but stopped when they found out that evie was seeing gavin. evie and stella used to be extremely close but they’ve drifted bc stella doesn’t understand why everly didn’t say anything about the abuse and evie can’t stand her husband.

Ok so the comparison post:

So let’s go all the way back to childhood for the both of them, they really did grow up one of many siblings to a mostly one parent dominant household. For George it was his mother, Mary Washington, and notibly the only person who inspired genuine fear in Washington. She was quite the matriarch and she raised her eldest son, Lawrence, to be a stately man.

He was incredibly talented and inherited quite a bit of money, as well as a hearty dowery, in which his estate— Mount Vernon was gained. He also played a major role in George’s upbringing. He taught him of the arts, conversed with him, and even got him a spot as a surveyor and officer in the British militia. When Lawrence fell ill it was George that traveled all over the world: the colonies, the carribean, even England itself. When he died, he left George alone, heartbroken, and aimless without an ear to listen to his greif. However, the last thing he gave to George was his home.

George couldn’t stay there however, he moved to Williamsburg where he met his soon to be wife Martha Curtis through his constant dining at the Governor’s Palace. Then during the French-Indian War he was assigned to Lord Braddock, mostly known for his folly that resulted in the loss of not just his life but most of the troops. Washington’s attempt to warn him of threats were not listened to and they were ambushed in a massacre. Now where does this sound familiar? An entire batallion under their command downed in an ambush with too few survivors?

If you guessed the opening scene of Turn, you’d be right. And completely unironically that was a very real event. So let’s go backwards from here for Tallmage, he differs from Washington in regards to the fact he had a very formal education, providing him with vast amounts of knowledge, but it is often brushed off due to his young age, firey attitude, and lower rank— much like Washington during the French-Indian War. But how did he even get here?

Most people attribute this to Nathan Hale, a well-known hero of the American revolution. He and Tallmage were much like brothers, and perhaps too much like Washington and Lawrence. Hale was his voice of reason, ambition, and a driving factor in his desire to continue to search for a way to win the war. After his tragic death by hanging due to his cover being exposed. Ben too was alone, heartbroken, and aimless without an ear to listen to his greif. He had no outlet for the anger he felt for Nathan’s death, nothing but his passion for the cause, the war. This often lead him to making the headstrong and bold decisions Washington’s younger self would have made. Ben too grew up mostly with one parent, his father, a symbol of love and a strong pillar of faith for Ben. This is the first major contrast we see between them, and I personally find it fascinating.

Washington grew up largely overlooked by his mother, learning that her attention was often due to some form of trouble or disappointment that he had caused. She was a loving mother, but not in a soft comforting way. He was hard on him. She knew he would never be much if he didn’t make himself. He would never had inherited such a fortune as his brother, was a generally ill behaved youth, showing no real prospects as he was not wealthy nor educated. Meanwhile, Ben’s father did his best to deligate as much of his time as physically possible to his children, his attention was often the result of praise and hard earned success. He knew that Ben was poor, and would very well end up being a hardly relevant person amongst his siblings. Nathaniel Tallmage however, decided that he would do all on his power to ensure the boy’s success. He educated him, enrolled him in Yale, taught him and supported his ideals, and even lead him into a war— having been a soldier himself.

How could people who grew up in such different environments be so identical? I personally think it’s their greif and youth that fuel this comparison. This is why Washington his so constantly hard on Ben, even though he was the one to promote him in rank and assign him as Chief of Intelligence. He gave Ben the chance he never had, the ear he never had from his superiors at Ben’s age becuase he saw what he could be and could achieve. It is this same reason that he’s so hard on him at the smallest failure. Any failure of the kind is a failure of Washington. From his eyes, he’s sheltered Tallmage from the hardships he had to face at that age and knows that he has deprived a vital learning experience from him by doing so.

Washington is his own biggest critic, nothing you can say about him is worse than what he says about him. And in Washington’s eyes, he and Ben are the exact same person. It’s his fault that Hale died, he didn’t even tell Tallmage the truth until he had to. In doing so he attempted to become the Lawrence in Tallmage’s life. But he never realized that Lawrence and him were raised to be harsh, realistic, and ambitious. Ben was not, Ben raised to understanding, optimistic, and trust in those close to him. Washington and Ben are so alike it hurts their relationship becuase Washington is trying to accommodate for al his failures through Ben, and Ben is simply trying to make his way the same way George did, alone. And it’s so painful to watch

Isabelle Cepeda was born and raised in Park City, Utah. The small homely town was just what her parents expected it to be: safe, quiet and most importantly, stable. It was everything they wanted and needed to raise their delicate little girl after. Fifteen years after moving to Utah with their newborn daughter, the Cepeda’s passed away due to car crash.

Due to the untimely death of both of her parents, Isabelle was placed under the loving care of a foster family, the Miragelo’s, two senior citizens that had migrated from Italy several years prior and had become close friends with the Cepeda’s, so taking in their daughter only seemed natural.

After a long and hard adjustment period, the brunette held her head high as she ventured through high school, all the while mourning her parent’s departure and trying to fit into the cliques that formed in the small school. Before you knew it, the scared and brittle fifteen year old had blossomed into a bright and confident young woman by the time she was a seventeen. The rupture of her cold and distant shell caught the eye of a fellow student, Sean Jennings, football star and all around American boy, who would later become her high school sweetheart.

Being with Sean, gaining the spotlight she’d never really wanted and being cared for in a romantic sense was new territory for the young girl. Her sarcastic and witty attitude made it difficult for her to get along with her peers easily and towards the beginning of their relationship; Isabelle felt she could truly be herself. That confidence really shaped her into the easy going yet witty person she is today, despite everything that she’s gone through, one thing that stays true is her personality.

Soon enough, their whirlwind high school romance turned into an early engagement and not long after, a wedding was held. At nineteen, Isabelle was married to who she thought was the love of her life and studying at a small culinary school close by, getting closer and closer to the bakery she’d always dreamed of opening. Her husband abandoned the dream he had of becoming an NFL star and buckled down to a real estate firm, making it his new life goal to provide for his loving wife and possible family. It was all straight out of a fairy tale but as we all know, we don’t live in story book and as much as we wish on the north star, dreams don’t always come true. Isabelle learnt that the hard way.

Money slowly became an issue in their small household. Their rent wasn’t getting paid on time, they were forced to live off of noodles for months at a time and suddenly Sean wasn’t home as much as he used to be and when he was, his behavior was erratic and jumpy. The first suspicion that crossed Belle’s mind was another woman but after looking into the situation thoroughly she discovered that the once all American boy had gone down the perilous road of drug experimentation and developed an addiction to crystal meth.

The years following the discovery were filled with angst, tears and fights that went on for days, which all ended in a rather ugly divorce. Distraught by the events of her life and lost beyond belief, Isabelle turned to her friends for support. After helping her out of heaps of debt and boosting her confidence back to the level she’d maintained in high school, they set off on a night on the town filled with drinks, cute guys and short skirts, just what a newly single 21 year old needed.

As the girls were leaving one of the bars in an intoxicated state, Belle drifted apart from the group and headed home, given that her apartment was at a walking distance and the dark didn’t seem to bother her in the slightest. Just a few blocks away from her house, she was attacked, a dark figure stabbing her in the abdomen amidst her petrified screams. Were it not for the mysterious soul that graciously pulled her attacker off of her and rushed the girl to the hospital, Isabelle would not be living to see this day.

Just a few months after Isabelle was discharged from the hospital, the brunette bravely decided to pack up her life and leave the grief tainted city she’d grown up in and settle down in Melbourne, Australia. An old friend had mentioned the growing town and the appeal it had to someone that was an aspiring business woman, so it seemed ideal that Belle reshape her life there. Now, a year after the attack, Isabelle has managed to settle into her new life. Her bakery, Velvet, has done quite well and she aspires to move into an even bigger space soon. Aside from the work aspect, she hopes to make more friends and connect with more people since she’s been isolating herself from the world for so long.

Isabelle is definitely a firey person, especially if you don’t know her. She can come off as a very serious, work oriented person as she has been focusing on her business for so long but once you peel back the harsh exterior you come to find a kind, loving woman that genuinely cares about the people that surround her and the wellbeing of others.

What is also surprising is her wit, the way she loves to tease the people she is close to, and the dark humor she has developed after a rather difficult life. She is quite guarded when people try to question her past and due to her previous husband, she has yet to open up to anyone as far as romantic relationships go.

Here Are The 12 Most Underrated Albums Of 2017 We’re Most Thankful For

WARNING: Before you trolls try to shit on our list, these are our picks for the most underrated albums of the year -- underrated meaning “underappreciated and/or overlooked.” So for anyone asking why Paramore, All Time Low, Code Orange, AFI, At The Drive-In, Knuckle Puck, Circa Survive, Movements, The Maine, Neck Deep, Counterparts etc. didn’t make the list, that’s why. 

In today’s world of stream-it-and-leave-it -- you know, where you skim through an album once or twice on Spotify then move on to the next -- it’s pretty likely you’ve actually done yourself a disservice as that record you skipped might of had the potential of becoming one of your all-time favorites. 

Now of course, the records we’re referring to aren’t the ones you’ve been dying to hear for months. We all know those records get the time and attention they deserve. Instead, we’re talking about the “oh yeah, I heard that was coming out” record you spend about fifteen minutes listening to while checking your Instagram and Twitter.

“Those records” are the ones we’re here to acknowledge today because whether it was done knowingly or not, you definitely missed out on some of the best music of the year. So, in order to help highlight all the fantastic releases you overlooked or simply had no idea even existed in the first place, we put together a list of the 12 most underrated albums of 2017 we here at The Noise are most thankful for -- you know, cause “holiday spirit” and stuff. ‘68 - Two Parts Viper

Before we begin to drool all over ourselves about ‘68′s ear-shattering release Two Parts Viper, we have to admit a couple things. First, anything Josh Scogin creates will always be a part of whatever “Best Of” list we’re making. The man is a musical gift to this earth. Secondly, a part of us are taking this chance to praise Two Parts Viper because, in order to promote the new album, we thought it would be an incredible idea to ask ‘68, well, 68 questions -- because how perfect, right? Well, we ended up doing it and Josh was an absolute trooper throughout the entire, drawn-out thing. Thank you for not hating us, Josh.

Now on to Two Parts Viper. Serving as a well-polished and fine-tuned follow-up to their debut In Humor And Sadness, ‘68 took what they excelled at on their first release (simple-yet-enjoyable groove-filled riffs, ear-popping guitar effects, honest and heartfelt lyrics) and really honed in on it. Providing songs like “Whether Terrified or Unafraid,” “This Life Is Old, New, Borrowed and Blue” and “No Apologies,” Scogin showcases his undeniable and ever-growing abilities as a songwriter and lyricist.         

A Lot Like Birds - Divisi // Sufferer - Sufferer

In 2017, vocalist Cory Lockwood had himself quite the year releasing not one but two new albums with two different bands. One album, A Lot Like Bird’s devastatingly emotional Divisi, served as the vocalist’s primary outlet as he dealt with the passing of his mother Shelley. Heartbroken and devasted, Lockwood rallied around his bandmates to help put together an impressively experimental and vibe-heavy record -- one that wouldn't feature co-vocalist Kurt Travis as he and the band decided to part ways. As for Lockwood’s second release of 2017, he and supergroup Sufferer (which includes members of I The Mighty and Hail The Sun) took a more destructive path releasing their extraordinarily chaotic and helter-skelter self-titled LP -- the kind of chaotic some A Lot Like Birds fans might remember from 2011′s Conversation Piece. While the two LPs might attract different listeners for different reasons, both of which are extremely well-deserving of our most underrated list.    

Stray From The Path - Only Death Is Real

There are three things we absolutely love about hardcore records: Head-pounding breakdowns, guest vocals and honest lyrics calling out all the bullshit happening in our world today. With Stray From The Path’s Only Death Is Real, you can without a doubt check off all three categories on their heart racing 10-track LP. Supplying breakdowns galore, guest vocals from Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley, Knocked Loose’s Bryan Garris and Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks as well as tracks about beating up Nazis and a fucked up government, Only Death Is Real is a bonified classic in our books.

Trapped Under Ice - Heatwave

Easily our shortest-yet-most-electric album on the list, Trapped Under Ice’s Heatwave is a firey fourteen-minute punch to the gut from beginning to end. Serving as the band’s first album since 2011′s Big Kiss Goodnight, Trapped Under Ice’s latest was well worth the wait with standout bangers like “XL,” “Throw It Away” and “Other Side.”

Greeley Estates - Calling All The Hopeless

We don’t know about you guys but we here at The Noise have a definite soft spot for comeback records. Even though Greeley Estates’ Calling All The Hopeless is only an EP, it’s certainly everything we’ve been waiting to hear since 2013′s Devil Son. Supplying listeners with six brand new tracks, all of which having some sort of influence from one of the band’s previous five LPs, Calling All The Hopeless is the perfect release for any era of Greeley Estates fan. 

Northern Ghost - Happy: Sad: Depressed: Suicidal

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of premiering Northern Ghost’s emotional music video for their incredibly infectious track “Heart Of Stone.” In doing so, we were introduced to a young post-hardcore outfit absolutely bursting with raw talent. After obsessing over their single and playing it about 150 times, we quickly turned to their debut album Happy: Sad: Depressed: Suicidal. Just one listen in, we were hooked. Long story short: Go listen to Northern Ghost. 

Can’t Swim - Fail You Again

Debut albums are difficult to write. You know the saying, “You have your whole life to write your first album.” However, in the case of Can’t Swim songwriter Chris LoPorto, he was only granted a few months to churn out Can’t Swim’s infectious 12-track LP Fail You Again as he and his bandmates were looking to top the success of their 2016 EP Death Deserves A Name. Doing just that, LoPorto and company ended up putting together a fabulous record of catchy earworms that have stuck with listeners since its release back in March. Don’t believe us? Go ahead and give “What’s Your Big Idea?,” “We Won’t Sleep,” and “Stranger” a listen and just try not to get sucked into those big choruses. Good luck.

Ghost Atlas - All Is In Synch, And There’s Nothing Left To Sing About

Unless you’re a pretty big Erra fan, there’s a good chance the name Ghost Atlas might not jump off the page at you. Which is fine, however, after reading this don’t let it happen again. Serving as Jesse Cash’s side project and ode to the less-metal-more-post-hardcore bands he grew up listening to like Circa Survive, his debut album All In In Synch, And There’s Nothing Left To Sing About is easily one of Cash’s best musical releases. Now no disrespect to Erra but what Cash was able to pull off on his first-ever solo full-length is utterly jaw-dropping. From start to finish, All Is In Synch’s flawless pursuit of producing accessible groove-laden rock anthems is, well, perfect. Go listen to “Legs” and try to tell us otherwise.

Envy On The Coast - Ritual 

Just in case you weren’t paying attention to what we said earlier during our Greeley Estates write up: WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE COMEBACK RECORDS AND WILL INCLUDE (most of) THEM ON ANY AND ALL BEST OF LISTS. Now that’s out of the way, Envy On The Coast is back and graced us with their first new release since 2010. As if that’s not reason enough to love their six-track EP Ritual, the newly reincarnated duo of Ryan Hunter and Brian Byrne put together a sensationally hip, Incubus-like record we haven’t stopped jamming since it was released this summer. If you, like us, have completely destroyed your six copies of Low Country by listening to it way too much, we strongly suggest switching over to Ritual.        

END - From The Unforgiving Arms Of God

Coming in as the record none of us expected to make this list, mainly because none of us even knew this project existed before it was announced, From The Unforgiving Arms Of God by END is an absolute must-listen for any fans of “heavy” music. From the EP’s brutal opener “Chewing Glass” to its merciless ender “Survived By Nothing,” you will not be the same person after hearing this record -- mainly because your face will be rearranged by the time you finish “Necessary Death.” Featuring members of Counterparts, Fit For An Autopsy, Reign Supreme and more, END has an incredibly bright future ahead of them if the members choose to pursue it -- which we sure hope they do.       

Have Mercy - Make The Best Of It

When news broke that Have Mercy was going through a member change for their new album, a part of us grew worrisome wondering what that would result in. After hearing Make The Best Of It, we now wish all our favorite bands would go through lineup changes right before releasing a new record -- just kidding, member changes are no fun. As the title suggests though, remaining member Brian Swindle made the absolute best of his unfortunate situation and ended up releasing Have Mercy’s greatest album yet.

He said if he were asked his real opinion, he would put his money on [Dream Coach] to be [Alma Mater U]'s coach. If [Dream Coach] is not interested, then he would have already came out and said it.

Has anyone heard this yet? Scroll down to the [radio show by different local media member] and listen to the entire interview. I was speechless when I listened to this. If [local media member] is at all crediable, then we have a chance at getting [Dream Coach].

Google "[Dream Coach] [Alma Mater U] coach" and narrow it down to the last 24 hours. We aren't the only ones talking about it. It's gathering momentum everywhere.

So I wonder if [Dream Coach] will be at the game? If he is, we all need to chant his name and try to woo him. I just hope that wouldn't hurt [Current Coach's] feelings, but I want [Dream Coach] bad.

Pay him what he wants. If [our richest booster] alone can give a GIFT of over [number] million dollars to [Alma Mater U], then money should not be an issue. How anyone thinks we can't afford [Dream Coach] with the donors we have and the TV contract money we will be receiving is beyond me.

Why leave [current, better job]? He knows that team is not good enough to win [more], and he is on the verge of having to rebuild down there. His defense if [bad now], and they have never had a offense worth a crap. [Suddenly bad] defense + mediocre offense = trouble in the [current, better job]. It would take years to rebuild that.

For those of you that think [Dream Coach] is so loved and happy in [current, better job], look at this thread from their board: [link to Fire Dream Coach thread]. We need to bump that thread. Convert as many [Alma Mater U complainers] to [Dream Coach's better job complainers] as possible and reallly turn up the heat. That should make [Alma Mater U] even more desirable.

He is probably looking for a soft spot to land where he would be revered. [Alma Mater U] would buy out his current contract. Dang, I do hope this comes to pass. How many recruits would want to come to [College Town] and play for [Dream Coach]?????

With our [adjective] facilities, fan base, tradition, and now a coach with proof of success, recruits will be at his front door asking to play for [Alma Mater U]. He is an extremely firey guy who won't put up with lazy BS and players not living up to their potential. I cant remember the last time i was this excited. [Dream Coach] is PERFECT for the job.

If the rumors do hold true, and [a former head coach and another famous coach] come on as OC and DC with [Dream Coach], I think [the former head coach] would do most of the recruiting and all of the [position] coaching.

I feel like we're just grasping at straws with the whole idea of actually landing a whale like [Dream Coach] ... but man, wouldn't it be sweet.
