Complaining abt Suicide Squad yet again but the fact that they have Waller exposing the alien community to space racist attacks and talking abt how she got to her position through deceit and being a terrible person and stuff is just. Ahsfiwueh JUST SAY YOU DONT KNOW WALLER.
Anyways literally the 3rd mission of the Squad ever (and the first framed as smth Waller picked and not orders from above) was the Squad discrediting and stopping a rogue vigilante who was only arresting POC and funneling white people into white supremacy groups (of which he was the most prominent member) in SUICIDE SQUAD #4. and it's explicitly framed as this mission being personal for Waller that she's hiding from the government bc its illegal like. Guys. Please why are we having her incite (space bc comics) racist attacks now
Also the whole "Amanda got her position through deceit and being a terrible person" NO. she KEPT her position through being shitty and playing complicated political games!!! She wasn't always that way like there is a difference and it is IMPORTANT ppl PLEASEEEE. In Secret Origins #14 we learn Amanda's backstory and she used to be a normal, caring person! Like even after she entered into working in government and politics she wasn't automatically morally bankrupt like please people. She was originally given control of the Squad by Reagan (*sigh* 80s comics...) to distract and get rid of her because she was so successful at pushing progressive social policy in Congress. Acting like she's this static pillar of evil is such a waste of her character and so fucking uninteresting and disrespectful to her arc it drives me MAD.
Like I am NOT saying Waller is all sunshine and rainbows, she fucking SUCKS (said w love <3) but like there's a human being there. It's a progression, she has a character arc like please, DC, please!!! They've fucked up Waller so bad and made her so opaque and uninteresting she can't even be the protagonist of her own story for fucks sake!
Like I don't know how many times I have to scream it until DC hears me or remembers but WALLER IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SUICIDE SQUAD. ITS HER BOOK. yet right now she's a cutout to be used as the villain wherever the writers please. Even in her book we get none of her perspective really displayed, no exploration of her thoughts with any kind of understanding of the role she traditionally has played and was made to play in the story.

Dark: Moon Knight#Moon Knight comics#latest release#Luminary#Marlene Alraune#what I find funny/clever (I guess) here is that where a lot of Marc’s moral ambiguity comes from his past as a mercenary#it seems that they do the same thing here with Marlene’s past in archaeology#they straight up truthfully call out that ‘hey you coming to global south nations and extracting artifacts actively perpetuates#a harmfully colonialist system’#and Marlene doesn’t even apologize#it’s indicated that she’s doing it largely to goad Bushmaster but idk I kind of like the complexity it brings#that yeah it might not be killing people for money but Marlene isn’t exactly a squeaky clean person either#but also of great importance here…she looks so good#her outfit LITERALLY slays and I cannot get over it nor stop repeating ‘love that for her’

Ohhhhhh god, I've been playing BG3 largely asexually so far tbh - I could have had some romance scenes with...almost everyone at the tiefling party I think, depending what choices I took, but I went to bed by myself because I wasn't ready to pick. I've had a conversation option to ask Lae'zel 'Is it me or have you been looking at me differently' for awhile but I've just ignored it.
But today while going for a long rest before confronting the surgeon in the House of Healing (how creepy is that place btw, seriously??) I finally hit a romance proposition initiated by one of the companions and it's so awkward and I feel awful. I'm not totally against the idea - it's someone I've considered trying a romance with - but I just...don't know. I can't really decide on any of them and I'm not sure I want to. But now I have to lock myself in or out (or in, and then have to dump them later which won't be any better) and I don't really want to. They get so sad if I say 'nah'.
Honest to god I feel like my Tav would just say 'I'm sorry I have to go', pick up Scratch and flee into the woods, never to be seen again. I'm having vivid memories of running into the library to hide behind shelves after one of my classes at uni because I would often pass a guy on the way to my next class who was nice enough but I was afraid he was going to ask me out and I wasn't interested (in hindsight he almost certainly wasn't either but I was stupid and awkward and not used to being around boys/men so I was way out of my depth.)
Hate it hate it hate it. I'm gonna have to suck it up and make a decision if I want to finish, and to be clear I'm not saying this as a criticism of the game, it's just a 'me problem', but...well, it's a me problem.

Had a convo with my colleague about how her child was given a reprimand at work for taking an entire day to code something that chatgpt 'did in minutes' and he couldn't answer that question. She was genuinely stumped herself as well because his 'boss was technically right that it takes him too long' and i had to tell her no, he's taking the right amount of time. He just knows what he's doing compared to the bot that does not.
Which brings me to the main point of this post. If a manager, an exec or some AI bro tries to make you feel incompetent because a ML algorithm can do something within a second you've got to remind them that it takes you longer because you know how it genuinely works. Chatgpt, stable diffusion, music ai keep making weird, glaring mistakes because it has no clue what it's doing. There is no intent made when writing, coding or photobashing a bunch of data pixels together. It can only produce what it has been fed and can't discern from that fed content why that data is formatted a certain way. Unless it becomes fully aware on it's own it will never understand it the intent, and it makes mistakes because of it.

but we're. still. here.
indigenous people are still here. black people are still here. colonized people are resilient. even if you kill our people, ban our languages, destroy our homes, heritage sites and artifacts, we will always find a way to keep our cultures alive and that has always been true
so much of the west and isntreal's tactics and actions are hauntingly familiar to me as a viet person. its a colonizer's rinse and repeat. and so that's how i know palestine will be free. we've seen this film before]
