The law enforcement arm of the U.S. Postal Service has quietly begun cooperating with federal immigration officials to locate people suspected of being in the country illegally, according to two people familiar with the matter and documents obtained by The Washington Post — dramatically broadening the scope of the Trump administration’s government-wide mass deportation campaign.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, a little-known police and investigative force for the mail agency, recently joined a Department of Homeland Security task force geared toward finding, detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional reprisals.
Immigration officials are seeking photographs of the outside of envelopes and packages — an Inspection Service program known as “mail covers” — and access to the postal investigation agency’s broad surveillance systems, including Postal Service online account data, package- and mail-tracking information, credit card data and financial material and IP addresses, the people said.
The postal collaboration is a significant escalation in the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. Homeland Security officials have previously partnered with tax, housing and public health authorities. But the involvement of the Postal Inspection Service, the nation’s oldest law enforcement agency, means efforts to pursue undocumented immigrants have expanded into one of the most mundane government activities: delivering the mail.

PAC: ❬🌷Your Twin Flame Connection🌷❭
(Please Read My Pinned post *IMPORTANT NOTE* before selecting a Pile)
💗 All dividers on this blog are provided by @uzmacchiato 💗
Masterlist | Paid Services
Pick an Image by meditating and selecting the image you feel called to. You can be attracted towards more than 1 image. If you are not able to select maybe this reading isn't for you.
Pile - 1
Cards: 2 of Swords, Justice, The Lovers, 7 of Cups and Not for you, High honors.
Welcome to your reading, pile 1. This pile is not for people who are already into relationships. So, don't let this reading make you doubt your decisions. Those of you who have found the one, might be living in fulfilling relationships. The others of you who are seeing or dating someone or in a situationship, you're very confused about this person because something feels off. So, either this person is not how they're claiming themselves to be or maybe they're just not for you and you have a strong gut feeling about this. You're advised to not rush into relationships for now, you need to look before you leap. You just want to be with a stable and mature partner. You might even be manifesting them. You're afraid of relationships going wrong. You're a simple person who doesn't want complicated people and relationships. So, I can say that you haven't met your twin flame partner yet. You're not sure. You want your future partner to put equal efforts as you. You won't settle for anything less. Some of you are focusing only on your career or studies and are happy being single. You have a lot of self respect and self esteem. You don't want any new problems which may come through entering relationships. You want to be at your best when you enter a relationship and you also want the best for yourselves.
That's all I got for you, my dear Pile 1.
Love, light, peace and hope to you..🌺🍁🪻🌸
Pile - 2
Cards: 3 of Swords, The Tower, The Hermit, King of Swords, Queen of Pentacles, All that glitters and Not for you.
Welcome to your reading, pile 2. You guys have been through a rough patch in your life; sorrow, disappointment, heartbreak, betrayal, bad luck, financial crisis, toxic people, family issues and what not. You're tired of life and people. You don't want any more drama in your life. You're trying to seek peace and freedom. Your problems might have gotten you in touch with spirituality, towards God, towards the Source. You're in a self-discovery mode, a hermit mode. You're also in a self-defensive mode, you've made all your boundaries strong and all your guards are up. You only want to surround yourself with good vibes and positive energy. But as I said, all your guards are up, you're currently not allowing people into your lives. You're working towards finding happiness. You're healing yourselves. You're also learning to speak for yourself. You're trying to get your broken pieces together and you know this will take time but you're okay with it. With the Queen of Pentacles here, you're trying to become more wise and mature with all the hurt and scars that you've got, you're even trying to become financially stable because maybe earlier you were dependent on somebody else. You want to take your own decisions and take life in your own hands. You're going to reject whoever comes with a proposal because you're not in the mood of dating or entering romantic relationships. You might have a few people in your life or one single person with whom you're very close, this person seems to mirror your energy and way of thinking, so this person can be a twinflame/soulmate for you, this can be anyone except for a romantic partner. You're going to carefully inspect a new person, be it any kind of relationship because you're well aware of wolves in sheep's clothing. You believe very few people are transparent with their motives while so many others hide so many intentions; good and bad, both. Life has made you to trust your hunches because they might be mostly correct. So, for some, you have a platonic twinflame relationship with someone and for others, you have already come out of a toxic twinflame relationship.
That's all I got for you, my dear Pile 2.
Love, light, peace and hope to you..🌺🍁🪻🌸
Pile - 3
Cards: Page of Pentacles rev, The Hierophant, Justice rev, The Sun, The Chariot, Orphaned and New Life.
Welcome to your reading, pile 3. I'm seeing two scenarios here. The major common theme of this pile is career/finance related. For some of you, you've already met your twinflame but you're trying to build a good life or you guys are maybe planning to marry, so you're earning and saving more money for your future. Maybe some of you are already married to your twinflame partner and you guys want to go for a honeymoon or a trip, or maybe you want to settle abroad, or you guys are planning to have a baby, so there's something new that you need, something big, for which you're falling short of money. For the others of you, you guys are just trying to become financially stable, trying to put food on the table, your career might look a mess right now, but with time and continuous efforts, you will succeed. You've kept romance out of the picture for now. You are simply focused on yourself and you'd want to remain single for a while. You want to achieve something in your career, you want to make something good out of your life and you think that does not require getting into a relationship or getting married, it's not compulsory. You think you can be so much on your own. There's so much left to do. You might have set a goal to become something, it can be a passion project too. Maybe you want to travel abroad for a trip or settle there for work, so you're working hard and saving money(Or if you're already abroad, you're growing your finances). In both the scenarios, there is this common situation of not having enough money/financial instability and the will to work towards it.
That's all I got for you, my dear Pile 3.
Love, light, peace and hope to you..🌺🍁🪻🌸

NOT a situation where im like "ok whit = daisuke" no. this is a different situation. their own scenario, trust. XF-Ture Express, despite its reputation for being one of the most reliable delivery services across the galaxy, has a terrible inside system. They have one of the lowest failure rates of the space freighters, being at a whopping 5% chance. Employees are paid a hefty amount, motivated by good working conditions on each ship with quality leisure activities and meal plans. But only the ones who earn it get such treatment. The hierarchy in which employees are forced to participate in never leaves the walls of the building. You do your job right and kill yourself working, you get assigned better ships with better shipments. It is as simple as that. So it is unfathomable when Captain Xander Matthews, considered one of the best, is assigned to a ship that is just barely allowed to launch. The "Fatebringer", is what it is called. It just scraped by inspection and is subpar for an XF-Ture ship, but supposedly it is necessary. Xander's job is not an easy one, but simple enough for someone of his caliber. He is to take this crappy ship, along with a shipment, to the exoplanet where the the better functioning ships are maintained and created. He and his crew will turn in this old junk ship for a sleek, modern one and move the shipment to it. Then on their way back, they will deliver it and return to Earth. Simple, they said. Child's play for a captain with so much experience. So it only makes sense for the best of the best to be assigned with him. Rose Lacroix. Her job is what is called 'the documenter'. She has no real purpose other than to keep track of supplies, as well as record daily minutes regarding every single thing that happens on board that is important to note. Due to her memory, she is considered the best to keep track of large quantities of items/the best to spot minor inconsistencies or things that are misplaced. She only needs to walk around a ship once to get it down properly. She has worked with Xander once before. Arturo Giles. The medic. He is apparently not new to this field despite being so young. He is usually quite unbearable and does not prefer to speak to his fellow employees, as most are deemed "too hideous". Despite his terrible personality, he is undeniably the best medic to have on a long assignment due to his quick efficiency. He claims that one day, the company will realize that he deserves better than what he has. (Despite being named the best medical employee.) He has worked with Rose twice, David once. J Moreno. The best mechanic for any ship, especially one as crap as the Fatebringer. When nothing needs to be fixed, she prefers to help out others if they need it (only if they deserve it, of course.) As much as she would prefer to stay on her own, she knows teamwork always comes first on long hauls. Her true identity is known to the company; they still put her actual name on all official documents and tech. She has to manually hide these things, as well as her ID card. Mariabella Rosales and XF-Ture collaborate a lot for financial purposes. She will advertise them with her existence/commercials/whatever, and they will pay her. And of course, never make J's employment public. If J weren't so good at what she does, they would not have cared. But they really like Mariabella's money so. As of now, Julia Rosales is considered MIA. David Chiem. Xander's co-pilot and good friend. David is usually the morale booster of his crews, always keeping spirits up and energy high despite the monotony of long hauls. He is usually who people will go to for advice or mental health discussions in place of the medic for two reasons: He cannot medically document anything, AND he is just such a fantastic listener! He always knows what to say! Xander and David have lost count of how many shipments they have done together. Teruko Tawaki. The stowaway of the Fatebringer who was not meant to be there. She was never meant to be there.
Teruko is usually assigned co-pilot. She has never worked with anyone else on the ship, so it is unclear whether or not her strange misfortune is known to any of them. Every ship she has ever been on has failed to bring their shipments on time- or at all. She has even seen crew members die in front of her. There have been near crashes, close calls...always when she is there. Nobody can terminate her. She has technically done nothing wrong, and firing her for no reason could mean a lawsuit or her spreading rumors about the company. So when Xander is given his assignment, he can only be dumbfounded when written in pen, he spots it. "Kill Teruko Tawaki. Find a way." And so Teruko is brought onto the ship, unconscious and hidden away. When she awakens, Xander will tell everyone that she is a surprise extra crew member. The excuse is that while she is usually co-piloting, XF-Ture is interested in having Teruko's skills expanded by having her shadowing the best of the best. Teruko, not remembering much, accepts this and trusts Xander. David's true personality is the same in canon: cold, cruel, manipulative. He feels threatened by Teruko's presence. After learning that her usual role is his, his theory is that she snuck onto the ship to prove she is better suited/to get him terminated. He treats her as normal UNTIL the crash. Xander is aware of Teruko's past jobs in vivid detail. He has been given reports, seen the documents...how much happens wherever she goes. He wants to get rid of her as soon as possible to keep the crew safe despite his guilt. Things go smoothly...until he receives word that XF-Ture is done for. It had only been two months, so what happened? The Rosales family suddenly stopped funding them, and everything crumbled after that. Nobody ever realized how much of their funding came from them. Xander felt mild relief. He truly does not want to kill a seemingly innocent woman for the company. After all, if she were truly responsible for any of those terrible things, they would have fired her with no hesitation. There must be a reason why she's still employed. But now they're all out of a job. What does that mean for them? Xander's mental health starts to plummet. Small things on board start to go wrong, and his first paranoid thought is to blame Teruko for being there. He becomes obsessed with reading over the reports from the crews that suffered in her presence. They were right; she's the cause. He confides in David, panicked and drained. Xander was a good man; far too good to kill anyone. Even if the people who told him to do so were technically no longer in charge of them...Teruko still needed to go. There's no reason to do the delivery, and there only thing they can really do is go to the exoplanet to swap out ships for a comfortable ride home. But with Teruko on board, there is no guarantee that they'll even get back to Earth. Xander tells him everything- too much. David decides that Teruko cannot make it back no matter what. Whatever field she gets to next will be riddled with destruction and possibly worse. Everyone here is at the top of XF-Ture, the best in a dead company. It is too late for any of them to climb to the top of another wage slave ladder. So he crashes the ship. Teruko Tawaki must die. If Xander cannot do it, he does not mind staining his filthy hands with more blood. What else happens? Who knows.

Musk’s DOGE seeks access to personal taxpayer data, raising alarm at IRS
Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service is seeking access to a heavily-guarded Internal Revenue Service system that includes detailed financial information about every taxpayer, business and nonprofit in the country, according to two people familiar with the activities, sparking alarm within the tax agency. Under pressure from the White House, the IRS is considering a memorandum of understanding that would give DOGE officials broad access to tax-agency systems, property and datasets. Among them is the Integrated Data Retrieval System, or IDRS, which enables tax agency employees to access IRS accounts — including personal identification numbers — and bank information. It also lets them enter and adjust transaction data and automatically generate notices, collection documents and other records. IDRS access is extremely limited — taxpayers who have had their information wrongfully disclosed or even inspected are entitled by law to monetary damages — and the request for DOGE access has raised deep concern within the IRS, according to three people familiar with internal agency deliberations who, like others in this report, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. [...] It’s highly unusual to grant political appointees access to personal taxpayer data, or even programs adjacent to that data, experts say. IRS commissioners traditionally do not have IDRS access. The same goes for the national taxpayer advocate, the agency’s internal consumer watchdog, according to Nina Olson, who served in the role from 2001 to 2019. “The information that the IRS has is incredibly personal. Someone with access to it could use it and make it public in a way, or do something with it, or share it with someone else who shares it with someone else, and your rights get violated,” Olson said. A Trump administration official said DOGE personnel needed IDRS access because DOGE staff are working to “eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse, and improve government performance to better serve the people.” [...] Gavin Kliger, a DOGE software engineer, arrived unannounced at IRS headquarters on Thursday and was named senior adviser to the acting commissioner. IRS officials were told to treat Kliger and other DOGE officials as contractors, two people familiar said.

Warning: Domestic violence
Note: so close to the finish line
Mornings are anything but peaceful these days, a far cry from the calm you crave. You can’t help but question your decision to do this on your own. If anyone walked in right now, they’d probably wonder the same thing. Kaia, half-dressed and clinging to your leg, whines for attention as you try to focus on an important email about your financial aid, your heart racing with every word.
“Action required,” You read to yourself. With a smack of your lips, you pull Kaia into your arms, adjusting her on your hip, as you try not to let your frustration show. “Mama’s sorry, Kai. I know you want to hang out with me but we have a lot to do today.” You talk to her knowing it won’t help the cries coming from her. They’re dangerously close to your ear and you’re sure you’ll be hard of hearing by lunch. The smell of burnt toast mixed with the sound of Kaia’s wails filled the room as you fumbled with the stove, your phone slipping from your grasp and shattering on the kitchen floor. "Oh, fuck me." You sigh as you bend down to inspect the shattered screen. You could swear you heard the crunch of glass under your slipper, causing a shiver to run up your spine.
The toaster dings, startling both of you. You look up to the ceiling, mumbling something about a higher power as you try to compose yourself. You walk Kaia over to the highchair, placing her inside of it despite her hating the thing, and walk over to pick up the shattered pieces of glass. You hadn't even known such a thing could happen for a supposedly durable phone.
Kaia lets out a shriek and you're not sure how you don't go deaf. You look at her and she's staring back at you with big brown eyes, tears threatening to fall. A part of you feels bad that she has to sit and watch while you clean up and cook, but you need a few seconds to catch your bearings. You seem to be going a little too fast, as a shard of glass nicks you and you curse to yourself. You have to do so many things at once it's a little jarring. You quickly reach for the outlet and unplug the toaster. You turn off the stove, rejoicing in the fact that your scrambled eggs will only be a little dry. You rush over to the sink to rinse your bleeding hand. You can hear Kaia begin to whimper and you groan to yourself.
"Mama's coming, baby. Hold on." You call over to her. "I have to clean up this glass before I'm able to let you walk around."
Your chest is tight and you feel like a terrible mom, unable to provide comfort. Kaia voices her frustration with an even louder shriek. You sigh. What a mess.
"Miss, it seems your heart rate is elevated," JARVIS, Tony's omniscient AI thing reads aloud to you. "Do you request the services of Ms. Romanoff or Mr. Rogers?"
"What? No, no I don't," You speak into the air. It's the third time JARVIS has asked this week and it still takes you by surprise. He only listens to you half the time and this isn't one of them. You're unsure of the settings on this thing but you'd like to change them.
"As you wish, Miss. Please keep me informed if you need assistance."
You scoff and mumble, "You're not my therapist."
You hear a door shut and you know exactly who's behind you. You thought you told JARVIS not to ask her to come.
"JARVIS told me you need some help," Natasha says, her voice quiet and comforting.
You sigh, "I told him not to tell you."
"You know he's not really a good listener." She shrugs.
You don't say anything back to her.
"Why did you tell him not to tell me?" She asks.
"Because I can handle this myself."
"I know you can," Natasha says carefully. She assesses the situation with a quickness before starting out with the obvious. Kaia raises her arms to be held and Natasha obliges. "Are you sure you don't want help, though?"
You let out a long exhale.
"No. I'm just overwhelmed," You confess. "I have to get over to my school for orientation. All of the classes may be online but it's in person for whatever reason."
"Understandable. Do you need me to stay and help?"
You want to say no. You want to tell her you can do it all on your own. When you look over and see Kaia resting her head tiredly on Natasha's shoulder you know better. You've only been at the tower for a few months and you're already noticing the subtle differences in your baby. She's finding comfort in someone else. She trusts another adult to take care of her.
"I'd appreciate that," You nod, smiling lightly.
"It's no problem, Y/N."
You watch as Natasha places a kiss on Kaia's cheek and she smiles.
"Are you giving your Mama a hard time?" Natasha coos to the toddler. Kaia looks back at her with the biggest tears in her eyes and the cutest pout. "I'm sorry, baby. Let's give Mama a break, okay? She's going through a lot right now."
You're thankful for Natasha's presence, though you'd never admit it out loud.
With Kaia settled you can give yourself a few minutes. You need to find a bandage and a new shirt that isn't filled with baby tears and snot.
"Go," Natasha urges you softly. How was it she's always been able to read your mind?
With a silent nod, you rush off to your bedroom and into the ensuite bathroom. There are baby toys along the floor that you maneuver around. You kneel, reaching inside the cabinet for the first aid kit, before finding a small bandage. it's not a huge cut but it needs attention. As soon as you've put on the bandage, your phone begins to ring. It's the alarm reminding you to get a move on. Your heart races again and the room suddenly feels too small. You rip your shirt over your head and toss it onto the floor.
Being so messy isn't in your nature but lately, it's been a sort of power move. Keith hated it when you'd left anything on the floor. He'd berate you and nag about all of the things he disliked about the smallest things. You remember leaving your shoes in the hallway one night, just needing to rest your feet. When you woke the next morning, to see he'd thrown them in the trash you had been devastated. You had to wash them twice to get the smell of leftover tomato juice and onions out of it. You shake your head. You don't want to think about him.
The sound of Kaia babbling brought you back to reality. You had to get a grip. You sift through your dresser drawer to find a simple shirt. You chose a business casual striped button-up. You stood closer to the full-length mirror to get a look at the entire outfit together. You tried not to notice the weight gain. You're carrying a baby it's supposed to happen. You're supposed to be happy about the tiny swell of your belly. You are. That doesn't mean all of this doesn't still make you nervous. Another baby. This new life you have. You caress your belly, turning to the side to inspect yourself.
"You look great," Natasha’s voice cuts through the haze of your thoughts, grounding you before the negativity can take root. You hadn’t even noticed her slip into the room, her presence as subtle as ever.
You turn to meet her gaze, feeling exposed, not just because you're standing there in nothing but a bra and pants, but because of the way her eyes linger on you—steady, reassuring, and warm. A flicker of vulnerability passes through you, the thought of someone seeing you like this, both physically and emotionally, is unnerving. Yet, Natasha’s presence doesn’t add to your discomfort; instead, it’s oddly comforting.
“Sorry, it got quiet in here, and I wanted to check on you,” Natasha apologizes, her tone gentle, almost hesitant, as if she knows this moment holds more weight than a casual check-in.
“He’s growing,” you murmur, almost to yourself, placing a hand on your stomach. “I’ve noticed a bump.” The words hang in the air, a mix of awe and anxiety. There’s a new life inside you, and with it, a whole new world of responsibilities and uncertainties.
Natasha steps closer, her eyes never leaving you, her expression softening into something that feels like admiration. “You look wonderful,” she says, and the sincerity in her voice makes your chest tighten, a wave of emotion swelling within you. It’s been so long since someone has made you feel this seen, this accepted.
An impulse strikes you, and you’re surprised by your desire to share this moment. “Do you want to feel? I mean, it’s too early to start kicking…” you shrug, feeling a bit awkward, not entirely sure why you’re offering. But there’s a part of you that craves connection, that wants to share this journey, and in this moment, Natasha feels like the only person you can trust with it.
Natasha nods, her lips curving into a soft smile, her eyes alight with a childlike excitement that warms your heart. You find yourself smiling back, a lightness filling you as you gently place her hand on your stomach.
"I was smaller with Kaia," You muse aloud and her eyes travel to yours. "I didn't start to really show until the end of my second trimester. I guess this little person is eager."
"You're amazing," Natasha says and you blush. "I don't think I could ever do something like this."
You chuckle, "That's not true. Everyone's different."
"I was made for other purposes," She admits, her tone laced with a hint of sadness. She allows her hand to drop to her side.
"I'm sorry," You frown. "I didn't mean for this to-"
"No, it's okay." Natasha interrupts. She shakes her head, and when her eyes meet yours, the sadness is gone, replaced with a hint of humor. "Besides, I don't think I'd be any good at being a parent anyway."
"I don't think that's true," You reply. "Kaia loves you. I mean she's taken to you and you guys barely know each other."
"Kaia's a sweet girl."
Speaking of Kaia, you wonder why it's so quiet.
"I gave her a plushie to play with," Natasha answers. "I figured you'd want to eat breakfast with her."
"Yeah," You smile. "I'll just put this on." You raise the shirt in your hands and Natasha nods.
"I'll leave you to it. I'll make her a plate. Take your time."
You watch her leave the room and exhale, feeling your body relax. She's right. You do need to take a breather. You button the shirt with efficiency before heading back to the kitchen. Natasha has pulled Kaia's high chair to the breakfast table. She's also managed to cut up some fruit which the toddler is happily munching on.
She's already got your food on a plate, waiting for you. It's just a slice of toast with bacon and fruit, but you can't deny that your mouth waters at the sight.
"Thank you, Nat," You say again, feeling slightly guilty.
"No worries," Natasha smiles. "How did you make the eggs? I thought they triggered your morning sickness."
"While holding my breath." You joke. "Kaia likes them so I make them for her."
"You're a good mom." Natasha hums.
"Thank you," You reply. "It's not always easy."
"Mama," Kaia begins. "Up!" She holds her arms out, waiting for you to hold her.
"Hi, sweetheart. Thank you for being so patient with Mama." You say as you pull her out of the highchair and into your arms.
Kaia gives you a toothy grin, a piece of mango on her bottom lip.
"Oh, baby," You wipe the mess from her mouth and kiss her on the forehead. "I'm going to miss her while I'm at work."
"Steve or Darcy watching her?"
"Darcy," You answer. "They get along. I think she's the best choice."
"Darcy's a good one. Steve, too."
"I'm sure," You agree. "But I'll be right downstairs so it should be fine."
"Are you nervous about going back to work and school?" Natasha asks you.
"It's a bit scary. I know I'm doing the right thing, though."
"If it gets too much, you can always stop," Natasha says, her voice gentle, but the concern in her eyes is clear. "Or I can keep Kaia some days too."
"You guys are too nice to me," You say, a small uncertain smile tugging at your lips. "I know how busy all of you are. You're Avengers that can't be such a promising schedule."
"You're family, Y/N." Natasha insists. "It's no problem. And, as much as we love our jobs, we love her more."
“Thank you,” you murmur, looking down at Kaia, who’s now playing with a toy in your lap.
But even as the words leave your mouth, a pang of doubt tugs at your heart. You know you’re grateful, but a part of you struggles to accept that you’re worthy of all this kindness. They’re Avengers—heroes who save the world—and yet here they are, bending over backward to help you, someone who feels so… small in comparison.
You swallow the lump in your throat, forcing yourself to meet Natasha’s gaze. “Really, thank you. I just… sometimes I don’t feel like I deserve all this, you know? You all have so much to deal with already.”
“You do deserve it, Y/N. Don’t ever doubt that. We care about you, and we want to help.”
The sincerity in her voice wraps around you like a warm blanket, and though the doubts still linger, you allow yourself to accept her words, even if just for a moment.
************
*****************
Standing in the crowded financial aid office, waiting in line to plead your case, you can’t help but second-guess yourself, even though Stark has already given you a pay raise and bumped up your salary, your mind still convinces you that you won't be able to pay the bill. You're not used to such generosity, it's not something you're accustomed to, and it's difficult for you to grasp. It's even more difficult when the line moves slowly. There's a little less than ten minutes before you're called to the front and you can feel your palms begin to sweat.
"Hello, I'm y/n y/l/n, I'm here to fix a few things with my financial aid package," You inform the receptionist. "I received an email today about still owing."
The woman at the desk is young, probably fresh out of college herself, with a tired but kind look in her eyes. She gives you a sympathetic smile as she clicks around on her computer, searching for your information.
"Your file seems to have a mistake," The young lady explains. "Your scholarship isn't paying off for another semester, though it looks like your bill has been paid already."
"What? When?" You stretch to see her computer screen as she turns it around for you. "I was looking to do a payment plan but if it's gone."
"Someone has paid it in full. Do you have an idea of who could have done it?"
"No," You reply, baffled. Your mind immediately jumps to Natasha. It seems like something she would do, quietly taking care of things behind the scenes, always looking out for you in ways you never expect. But this feels different. Natasha isn’t one to step in without at least consulting with you first—respecting your independence, and knowing how much you’re trying to reclaim it. It doesn’t quite fit her style to make such a significant gesture without a conversation.
"Well, I'd consider it your lucky day," She smiles gently at you.
"Thank you," You mumble, still a little dazed. As you gather your thoughts, you wonder if it could have been Stark—he’s known for his grand gestures and might see this as a way to ease your burdens. But even that feels off. You can't shake the unease, the nagging feeling that someone has stepped in to help without asking, leaving you both grateful and unsettled.
"Is there anything else we can do for you today?"
"No. Thanks."
With that, you're sent on your way, thoughts swirling as you leave the office, the mystery of your benefactor lingering in the back of your mind.
*************
Your first day back at the office is nothing short of stressful. You feel incredibly out of place after not being at work for so long. There are two other receptionists for the front desk of Stark Tower and they've always had more experience than you. Now, however, it's the complete opposite.
You'd been in charge of the scheduling of everyone on the lower levels. It wasn't the most glamorous of jobs but it did help with the day-to-day.
"Ms. Y/L/N," A familiar voice calls. You look up and see your former supervisor.
"Hey, Miss Johnson. It's good to see you," You greet her.
"It's great to have you back."
"Thank you. I wasn't sure if I would come back or not."
"Well, I'm happy you decided to. How's your daughter?"
"She's growing. She's got a personality now."
Miss Johnson laughs. "I'm sure. Kids grow up so fast."
"They do," You agree.
"I've gotta get back to it," She says. "Feel free to stop by my office if you need anything."
"Thank you, I will." You say. That's about the only real interaction you get for the next forty minutes. People stop by only needing you to be directed to th other areas of the tower where the public is permitted. It's not bad, though. It's stable and easy. The first thing in your life you're able to do with ease you think. You'd just finished sending off a memo for one of the R&D developers when there's a clearing of a throat in front of you.
You look up and you smile.
Steve.
"Hi," You greet him. It's been a few days since you've seen your friend. He's been away on a mission in some random country.
"Hey, stranger," Steve grins. "It's good to see you."
"Good to be seen," You tease.
"So, this is your new spot, huh?"
"Yup," You say. "Just a few feet away from my old one." You joke.
"How's it been?"
"Easy," You tell him. "People are nice."
"Well, that's a given," Steve points out. "How is Kaia?"
"She's good," You smile, your heart swelling with pride. "She's with Darcy for the day. It's taken everything in me not to check on her."
"That's understandable," Steve chuckles. "She's a sweetheart. Have you eaten lunch yet?" He offers.
"I have," You raise a container filled with leftover pasta. "Though I could use a couple minutes to stretch my legs."
"Then let's go," Steve smiles.
"That's probably a good idea."
Steve waits for you to grab your jacket and you both head for the top-secret entrance and exit. There's probably a fancy name for it but that's what you call it. It's a given the Avengers would need their own space like this considering how much the public is usually crowded around the main doors.
"So, how was your mission?" You ask as you're riding the elevator down.
"Successful," Steve answers. "We had a lead and it was a solid one. It was just a matter of getting there in time."
"I hope that's good then," You nod.
"It is," Steve reassures. "Things are calming down."
"Good," You say, relieved.
The elevator reaches the ground floor and you follow Steve outside.
"How's the uh, the baby," Steve asks awkwardly.
You chuckle, "It's not contagious, Steve."
"No, I know," Steve sighs, blushing a little. "I just wasn't sure if you'd be comfortable talking about it or not."
"It's fine," You shrug. "The baby is fine. I think."
"Think?" Steve looks over at you, his expression concerned.
"No, not like that," You laugh. "From what I know the baby is fine and developing as he should be."
"That's good," Steve exhales. "I'm glad."
"You're not the only one," You walk so close you bump shoulders with him. "You're a good guy, Steve."
"I'm just me," Steve shrugs.
"And you're a great friend."
"I'd like to think I'm a good one," He admits.
"When are you going to settle down and marry or something?"
"Or something?" Steve laughs. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You know, maybe find a girlfriend."
"I don't think it's for me," Steve shakes his head. You remember the story he told you about Peggy, the love of his life from a time long gone. It wasn’t just any love story—it was the kind of deep, unyielding bond that seemed to transcend time itself. Steve had spoken about her with a quiet reverence, his voice filled with both warmth and lingering sorrow. Peggy was the one who got away, the one he could never forget, and in a way, it felt like no one else could ever compare. For Steve, moving on wasn’t as simple as finding someone new. His heart had been spoken for long ago, and even though he’d found his way into a new world, that part of him remained in the past, with her.
And maybe, you think, that’s why he’s content to just be a good friend, the steadfast, loyal companion—because he’s already given the best parts of himself to someone he can never truly be with.
"What about you?" Steve asks. "Do you think you'll ever love again? You know after Keith."
"I don't think I'm ready," You admit.
"No?"
"I'm not," You frown. "My heart doesn't want to try. There's nothing left."
"I understand," Steve nods.
"It's hard to think about you know," You stop walking to gather your thoughts. "I was with him since I was eighteen years old. The past six years have been so interesting. I was in an abusive relationship that took everything from me. How am I supposed to trust someone else after that?"
"It'll take time," Steve offers.
"I wish it was easier," You admit. "I wish I could turn off that part of myself that cares."
"Yeah," Steve agrees. "Sometimes it's hard."
"But if I were to ever start dating I know what I want," You say with such conviction it has Steve raising a brow.
"Oh, really? And what's that?"
"To be treated like a queen," You joke.
"Well, anyone would be a fool not to treat you that way."
"I'm glad you think so," You nod. "In all seriousness, I want someone kind. Honest. Not only with me but with themselves. Someone who isn't fond of knocking me around is a good deal too. It's all bare minimum."
"That's not the bare minimum, Y/N," Steve's brows furrow together, a slight frown on his face. "You deserve the world. All the best things."
"Yeah," You scoff, your heart heavy with the knowledge that you haven't received such things before.
"And you deserve the truth," Steve says, his voice softening.
"What truth?"
"That you are worthy of love," Steve continues. "You deserve the best things because you are the best things."
"If I didn't know any better I'd say you were trying to propose to me yourself," You joke, trying to lighten the mood, but the words feel hollow, even to you. The compliment hangs in the air, heavy and uncomfortable, wrapping around you like an ill-fitting coat.
It’s not that you don’t appreciate Steve’s kindness—it’s just that you’ve never been one to accept compliments easily, especially not ones that cut this close to the bone. The idea that you could be deserving of love, of the best things in life, feels so foreign, so out of reach. The wounds from your past still linger, making it hard to believe anything good about yourself, let alone something so profound. Steve’s words, however well-intentioned, only serve to highlight how far you feel from the person he’s describing.
You shift uncomfortably, forcing a smile, but inside, a small part of you recoils, unsure how to reconcile the person you see in the mirror with the one Steve sees standing before him. It’s going to take time—more time than you want to admit—before you can even begin to believe any of it.
"Come on," Steve nudges your shoulder, offering you a warm smile. "Let's get you back to the tower."
You give him a grateful nod and walk beside him in silence, the weight of his words still heavy on your mind.
"Have a good rest of the day, Y/N," Steve says as he drops you off. You stand on your tiptoes, wrapping your arms around his shoulders to hug him. Truly hug him.
As you hold him close, a warmth spreads through you, a comfort you haven’t felt in a long time. It’s not just the embrace—the realization that you have people in your corner, friends who genuinely care. For so long, you’ve been used to fighting your battles alone, to keeping your guard up, always expecting the worst. But here, in this simple hug, you feel the weight of that loneliness lift, if only a little.
It feels like you’re finally starting to understand what it means to have a support system and people who stand by you, not out of obligation but out of genuine care. It’s a feeling you’re still getting used to, but it also fills you with a quiet sense of gratitude. For the first time in a long time, you feel like you’re not just surviving—you’re being seen, valued, and cared for. And that, more than anything, makes you feel like you’re truly healing.

UHC coming out and crying about how we neeeeeed insurance companies like them to safeguard the people against over prescribing of medical services which is L OH L
You're a for profit business. Your only purpose is to safeguard your own profits. You take people's money and do everything you can to not give it back when you're supposed to
You know who else actually works as a watch dog against over prescribing and wrongful billing of medical services?? The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services!!!! The part of the government that likely would take over if we switched to single payer!!!! Wow!! And they do in house inspections to make sure everything is running ethically! And they do it without maintaining a profit margin!!!!
There's this weird mindset that somehow doctors get paid by the service. Which, I can't speak to other places, but at our hospital doctors and surgeons get a flat salary. They have no financial incentive to get you under the knife. In fact! At our hospital in particular, we are constantly on diversion. This means we're freaking full, and ambulances need to divert to another facility. This is bad!! No one is happy when this happens!! We want you OUT as soon as possible, and not in at all if you don't need it! There's an entire department called Care Coordination dedicated to getting you out safely with minimal risk of readmission!!! Over prescribed my ass.
Also in my previous rant about shady insurance company practices, I didn't even scratch the surface of retro denials. Yes. The hospital can reach out to a payer ahead of time, get their blessing to admit the patient, and then the payer will later say "actually we changed our mind lol you're getting an obs rate for that inpt stay" Actual ghouls

Hurricane Season Risks and Preparedness

Florida’s hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Hurricane Milton is hitting just as the state braces for more potential storms. The danger doesn’t end when the hurricane passes. After a storm like Milton, communities are left vulnerable to future weather events. The risk of another hurricane striking Florida before Milton’s recovery remains high.
Weakening Infrastructure – After Milton, homes and businesses will be more susceptible to damage from weaker tropical storms or hurricanes. Unrepaired roofs and weakened structures could collapse or fail under minimal pressure.
Flooding Risks – Milton’s heavy rainfall and storm surge will saturate the ground and fill waterways. This will leave communities vulnerable to even small rain events, with the potential for additional flooding.
Power Restoration Delays – With Milton causing widespread outages, the power grid may remain unstable for weeks, making it difficult for residents to recover fully before the next storm hits.
Preparing for Future Storms – Residents must begin making plans now for the rest of hurricane season. Stock up on supplies, make sure your property is secure, and stay informed about future weather developments.
Additional Tips for Hurricane Preparedness
To ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones, follow these guidelines when preparing for a Hurricane:
Evacuate if Ordered – Listen to local officials and immediately evacuate if you are in an evacuation zone. Delaying could put your life at risk.
youtube
Secure Your Property – Install hurricane shutters, trim trees, and secure outdoor items. Consider having your roof inspected by New Image Roofing before the storm hits.

Prepare a Disaster Kit – Include essentials like water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
Stay Informed – Official sources like FEMA, FDEM, and the National Weather Service offer updates and information.

Commission for Relief in Belgium
The Commission for Relief in Belgium (CRB) was an independent, international organization, sponsored by neutral governments and with the guarantees and assurances of the belligerents to alleviate the suffering of German-occupied Belgium in the First World War (1914-1918). Headed by Herbert Hoover, the CRB, as an independent initiative, represented the first attempt in the modern period to address the problem of civilian relief during war.
German Occupation of Belgium
On the evening of 2 August 1914, the Belgian authorities were presented with an ultimatum by Germany requesting passage through Belgian territory to engage the French army. It declared that if Belgium observed a benevolent neutrality, making no opposition to the passing of German troops across its territory, its sovereign rights and independence would be guaranteed, and it would be compensated for all damage suffered. If they resisted, Belgium would be treated as an enemy. The Belgian government was given twelve hours to reply. There were no differences of opinion amongst the members of the Belgian cabinet; they refused Germany's request.
On 4 August, in violation of existing treaties, German armies swept across Belgium, and by the end of the month, most of Belgium was set apart as an occupied territory (Okkupationsgebiet) behind the zone of military operations. Field-Marshal Baron von der Goltz was appointed by the German emperor to be governor-general, and a central government was established under his command.
The destruction, requisitioning, and distribution of the country's existing food stocks created a desperate situation. The roads filled with refugees and threw the nation's economic life into disarray. The foremost problem confronting the country was the supply and distribution of staple necessities to the population. General services such as customs services, tax collection, and agricultural control and inspection remained intact under the strict supervision of the German authorities. The occupying Germans maintained the appearance that the Belgians were still administrating their own services. The post office and railways were taken over by the German administration and run as military institutions. Belgian law was retained but the German governor-general exercised the right to eliminate any existing laws or create new legislation.
There was also in force a complete code of military law and military tribunals for enforcement. Special departments administered every aspect of Belgian industry, commerce, and agriculture. German commissioners of banks supervised all financial operations. Central offices controlled the canals, railways, and coal mining industry. The means of travel were also limited. Automobiles were few, and the trams and railroads, when finally available for civilian use, were notoriously slow and restricted. Daily life was uncertain, and the people could never be sure from one week to the next what new restrictions or demands would be made upon the community. Nevertheless, the Belgian population maintained the hope that, within a relatively short period of time, the occupying Germans would be pushed back to their own borders.

What would be your response to the pro-abortion argument that Crisis Pregnancy Centers falsely advertise themselves as medical centers, that they spread diseases, that they harass women, and that there should be more government oversight of those clinics and that they should be more transparent with how they use government money?
I made a pro life post recently and the pro-choicers and pro-abortionists are all over the whole supporting crisis pregnancy centers thing.
1. “Pregnancy centers falsely advertise as medical centers.”
Ask for examples. Ask them to show you a website or ad for a pregnancy center that says or implies they’re a medical center. Then check what services that center offers - many pregnancy centers do offer medical services!
This is where the confusion occurs - pregnancy centers are not all the same. Some are more “resource centers” that provide counseling, classes, material support like disappears and formula, and so on.
Others are more medical, and might offer ultrasounds and early prenatal care, along with annual well-woman exams, STD testing, and so on. These facilities usually have nurses and physician assistants, and sometimes have OB/Gyns who volunteer part-time. Almost all pregnancy centers offer pregnancy tests.
This is a good time to remind everyone that ALL pro-lifers should be familiar with the pregnancy centers in their area! Go to OptionLine.org and scroll down to “Find a Center Near You”. Put your zip code in the search. You’ll get a map view and a list of all the pregnancy centers registered with OptionLine (which will be most of them - you can also check CareNet’s directory to make sure you aren’t missing any)
You should know:
- Which center is closest to you
- Which centers offer pregnancy tests and ultrasounds
- Which (if any) offer STD testing and other gynecology services like well-woman exams
- Which offer things like diapers and formula
Bonus points: Call one or more of the centers and ask for a tour. Tell them you’re a pro-life advocate and you want to be more familiar with the pregnancy centers around you. They’re often more than willing to show you around! Meeting the staff and seeing the facility can really help if someone asks you where to find pregnancy help. There’s a big difference between “let me google that really quick” and “oh just go to ____ pregnancy center, the staff there are great and they offer [whatever services they offer]”
2. “Pregnancy centers spread diseases” Again, ask for evidence.
There used to be a great website that published abortion facility health inspections, but it appears to be deactivated. But if you google “Abortion clinic fails health inspection” (without the quotes) you’ll get multiple stories of abortion facilities in different states that failed their inspections over the last several years.
3. “They harass women”
Evidence, evidence, evidence. Pregnancy centers usually aren’t cold-calling. Women choose to go to them for help. Sidewalk advocates outside abortion facilities may direct women to the pregnancy centers, but they usually don’t work for the centers or represent them in an official capacity. And even then, sidewalk advocates usually aren’t harassing anyone. Standing outside an abortion facility and offering information is not harassment. So the person making this claim needs to provide evidence of pregnancy centers “harassing” women and define what they mean by harassment.
4. Oversight/use of government money:
The pregnancy centers I know and have researched all publish detailed financial reports. They rely on donors much more than they do the government, and they need to be transparent to maintain donors’ trust. So again, I would need an example of pregnancy centers that take government money AND don’t publish annual financial reports that show what they’re doing with the money.
When in doubt, ask the person who is making the claim to support it with evidence. If they can’t/won’t, you can dismiss them and their claims.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/09/22/us-braces-calamitous-costly-government-shutdown-eight-days/
Hey, just a heads up--
A (US) government shutdown is pretty imminent right now. They have until September 30 to pass any sort of budget to keep funding the government, but congress has been unable to come to any decisions or compromises. Typically what happens each year on Sept 30 is Congress will pass a continuing resolution (a temporary budget) to buy a month or two to keep arguing about it. This year, they haven't been able to pass even that. McCarthy has sent the House members home for the weekend already, which means they will have even less time next week to figure something out.
So, what happens during a government shutdown? Some parts of the government--deemed essential--will keep operating. Please be nice to these employees, because they will be working without pay. Fortunately a bill passed in 2019 means they are guaranteed to be paid at the end of the shutdown, but still. Thousands of other federal employees will be furloughed and not allowed to work. For hundreds of thousands of employees, they will struggle to pay bills.
What about everybody else, the public being served? Broadly speaking, tons of grants and projects and research and environmental reviews and loans and services will be halted and delayed. Most significantly though:
SSA will continue to issue retirement and disability checks, as well as Medicaid/Medicare benefits. There might be delays, especially in new signups.
FEMA will continue to offer disaster relief and aid, but may run out of funds if the shutdown continues.
Thousands of low income parents will lose access to Head Start programs and childcare programs.
FDA food safety inspections, as well as other safety inspections (including worker safety), may be delayed
Mail delivery continues, as the US Postal Service is independently funded.
Food stamps, housing vouchers, and college financial aid may lapse if the shutdown lasts beyond October. The longest shutdown in US history was in 2018, for 35 days. This one is probably unlikely to be that long, but if it is, people may lose access to these programs.
WIC will only be able to operate for a few days after the shutdown, leaving millions of pregnant people, infants, and children at risk of going hungry.
Weather forcasting, air traffic control, TSA, etc will continue (though the employees won't be paid)
Hopefully a shutdown will be averted, but it's far more likely this year than other years. If you are in a position to be affected by a lapse in government services, I would recommend keeping up with the news so that it doesn't hit you as a surprise. Ultimately I can make no real predictions for how it will turn out or which things will be affected, but I hope this helps.

High-Quality Real Estate: The Foundation of Affordable Long-Term Investment
In today’s fast-paced and competitive market, quality remains the fundamental pillar of a strong value proposition. It is a defining factor that influences customer expectations across industries. Businesses that prioritize quality not only set themselves apart but also uphold the principle that customers deserve excellence. Without quality, the perceived value diminishes.
The Enduring Value of Real Estate
Real estate is one of the most significant assets a person can own. Constructing homes and commercial spaces isn’t just about erecting structures; it’s about creating spaces that stand the test of time. Quality in real estate is not just desirable—it’s essential. Companies that focus on quality in every aspect of their projects provide better service and long-term benefits to their customers. Let’s explore why quality in real estate is an affordable investment.
A One-Time Investment with Lifelong Benefits
Quality development should be seen as an enduring investment rather than an expense. Customers deserve superior products and services that retain their value over time. Since high-quality properties last longer and require fewer repairs, they foster customer loyalty and ensure long-term financial benefits.
Better Homes, Better Living
A property’s quality directly impacts the quality of life of its residents. Sustainable construction methods, proper ventilation, ample natural light, and efficient space utilization contribute to a comfortable and healthy living environment. Modern buyers prioritize homes that align with their values and offer lasting advantages.
Enhancing Property Value Through Superior Construction
The quality of construction directly influences a property's market and emotional value. Premium materials, superior craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail not only enhance a property’s aesthetic appeal but also increase its overall worth. Don't ask what I'm doing I'm not doing anything (VBS Data Stream guys look at it)
Kohane An Akito Toya and Luka
(actually nice and finished looking lyrics under cut)
Eventually, all walls meet demolition
So Wall Street had to keep the tradition
Their financial systems resigned to ignition
And out of the ashes, we have arisen
An empire is forged in the fire of ambition
In business, there isn't the time for attrition
Invest to suppress then ingest competition
Then each acquisition is new ammunition
When governments crumble and fall to the floor
That was paved with the graves of a corporate war
A fundament funded in blood just to shore
A foundation for founding our covenant
Born of a need for control of societal entropy
Enterprise at the price of your indemnity
Chart out the course and of course you were meant to be
Bent to the will of a corporate entity
Arasaka Security. You're in safe hands
We're the light in your screens, we're the lead in your veins
Then you wake from your dreams, so we can sell them again
In the light we distract with the shiny and new
So you're blind to the fact that the product is you
So let your brain dance and replay the dream
But don't drown in the data stream
'Cause we see where you are and we see where you go
'Cause we know what you own and we own what you know
From the top of all our towers, the corridors of power clearly need rewiring
Arasaka saw the spark and then embarked upon the path to turn that spark to lightning
There's no autonomous megalopolis so populous or prosperous you could reside in
And every citizen that's living in this city is a digit on the charts we're climbing
Political systems are too inefficient
They split like the atom and burned in the fission
Now every department and every decision
Defer to the herds of our corporate divisions
If you don't remember the ballot you cast
It's printed on every receipt you were passed
Each time you selected our products and services
We were elected in each of your purchases
What's left to do when you've got the monopoly?
Turn the consumer into the commodity
It isn't hard where you've hardware neurology
Honestly, do read the company policy
Take information and trade it for wealth
You pay it in each augmentation we sell
It's easy to cut out the middleman
When he's cut out most of himself
Arasaka Finance. Investing in your future
(chorus)
All that you say on the net we composite
To maps that go straight from your head to your pocket
Complain if you want, you're still making deposits
Of data — each day you log on is a profit
Society currently lists electronic
So isn't conducting resistance ironic?
We've plenty of skeletons locked in our closets
But yours are assembled from old-stock hydraulics
So lucky we know just the pieces you need
All plucked from your social media feeds
The places you go and the posts that you read
All snatched for a new algorithm to feed
Now, holding our gold isn't par for the brand
Our silver is sat in the palm of your hand
Quit whining and sign on the line in the sand
The supply does not get to make the demands
(chorus)
Arasaka Manufacturing. Building a better tomorrow
Name, age, qualifications
Race, faith, career aspirations
Political leaning, daily commute
Marital status, favourite fruit
Family, browser, medical history
Hobbies, interests, brand affinity
Fashion, style, your occupation
Gender identity, orientation
Lifestyle choices, dietary needs
The marketing contact you choose to receive
Posts, likes, employers, friends
Social bias, exploitable trends
Tastes, culture, phone of choice
Facial structure, the tone of your voice
If it's inside your head, we know
You can't escape the ebb and flow
(chorus)
When guiding the hand of the market
If it's holding a cheque or a gun
The fingers go deep in your pockets
And you can live under the thumb
You seem so surprised, what did you expect?
We're thinking outside of that box that you checked
The terms were presented in full to inspect
You scrolled to the end just to get to "Accept"

Arasaka would like to know your location

"The documents reveal a DOGE affiliate is attempting to transfer the headquarters of an independent think tank, the United States Institute of Peace, to the government at no cost.
On April 1, US district judge Beryl Howell effectively allowed the transfer of the United States Institute of Peace headquarters building to the DOGE-controlled General Services Administration.
The DOGE-affiliated acting president of the United States Institute of Peace, a Congressionally funded, independent think tank, has moved to transfer the agency’s $500 million headquarters building to the General Services Administration free of charge, according to court documents revealed in a recently filed lawsuit.
Tensions at USIP have been escalating for weeks, starting when the Trump administration fired the agency’s 10 voting board members on March 14 and USIP staffers denied DOGE representatives access at the front door. Three days later, DOGE employees made their way into the building, reportedly using a physical key from a former security contractor. The dramatic confrontations culminated in a full takeover, with former State Department official Kenneth Jackson assuming the role of president. As of this past Friday, most USIP staffers have received termination notices."
"As these legal and regulatory battles continue to play out, Hudicka says he anticipates a number of trickle-down effects to happen, such as local market wars over resources, which bigger cities and larger grocery chains will be better equipped for than mom-and-pops and rural communities. Hudicka says that allowing shipping containers to sit uninspected could also impact other sectors, as the delays will prevent them from being reused for other kinds of goods. “Those containers are supposed to be moving stuff every day, and now they’re just parked somewhere,” he says.
Kit Johnson, the director of trade compliance at the US customs broker John S. James, also predicts prices and waste to increase. But what raises the most alarms for him is the increased likelihood of invasive species slipping through inspection cracks. He says the price of missing a threatening pest is “wiping out an entire agricultural commodity,” an event that could have “not just economic but national security impacts.”
Decimating the Department of Agriculture could even have consequences for US Customs and Border Protection, which deploys the dogs trained by Copeland and other staffers at the National Dog Detection Training Center. CBP works closely with the USDA in other ways as well, particularly at points of entry. The two agencies run the Agricultural Quarantine Inspection program, but it’s funded by the USDA. Many Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service programs do not rely on taxpayer dollars to operate but instead collect fees from importers and other industry players. In this way, it subsidizes some of CBP’s agriculture-related activities. CBP did not respond to a request for comment."
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/doge-cfpb-disregarded-court-orders-mass-firings-statement-says-2025-04-18/
"WASHINGTON, April 18 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday halted the mass firings carried out on Thursday afternoon at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, saying she was deeply concerned the Trump administration had violated court orders setting conditions on dismissals.
On Thursday, the agency fired between 1,400 and 1,500 workers, eliminating as much as 90% of its workforce.
...
The witness said the DOGE member Gavin Kliger also demanded staff work a 36-hour shift without breaks and verbally abused staff. However, the Office of Personnel Management, the government human resources office where Kliger works, rejected the allegations as "an outright lie," asserting Kliger had not overseen the workforce reduction."
Are we "great" yet?

Microsoft deal would reopen Three Mile Island nuclear plant to power AI
Pennsylvania’s dormant Three Mile Island nuclear plant would be brought back to life to feed the voracious energy needs of Microsoft under an unprecedented deal announced Friday in which the tech giant would buy 100 percent of its power for 20 years.
The restart of Three Mile Island, the site of the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history, would mark a bold advance in the tech industry’s quest to find enough electric power to support its boom in artificial intelligence. The plant, which Pennsylvanians thought hadclosed for good in 2019 amid financial strain, would come back online by 2028 under the agreement, according toplant owner Constellation Energy.
If approved by regulators, Three Mile Island would provide Microsoft with the energy equivalent it takes to power 800,000 homes, or 835 megawatts. Never before has a U.S. nuclear plant come back into service after being decommissioned, and never before has all of a single commercial nuclear power plant’s output been allocated to a single customer.
But the economics of both the power and computing industries are changing rapidly. Tech companies are scouring the nation for power that is both reliable and helps them meet their pledge to fuel AI development with zero emissions electricity — driving a nuclear power revival.
“The energy industry cannot be the reason China or Russia beats us in AI,” said Joseph Dominguez, chief executive of Constellation. “This plant never should have been allowed to shut down, ... It will produce as much clean energy as all of the renewables [wind and solar] built in Pennsylvania over the last 30 years.”
Follow Climate & environment
The four-year restart plan would cost Constellation about $1.6 billion, he said, and is dependent on federal subsidies in the form of tax breaks earmarked for nuclear power in the 2022 Inflation Recovery Act.
Constellation will also need to clear steep regulatory hurdles, including intensive safety inspections from the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which has never before authorized the reopening of a plant. The deal also raises thorny questions about the federal tax breaks, as the energy from the plant would all be produced for a single private company rather than a utility serving entire communities.
A partial reactor meltdown at Three Mile Island in 1979 sent the nation into a panic and the nuclear industry reeling. The unit that Constellation plans to fire back up sits adjacent to the one that malfunctioned 45 years ago.
Constellation and Microsoft conceived the novel deal to solve a deepening energy problem. The sprawling data centers Microsoft and other digital giants need have become so big and energy-intensive that they are straining existing power supplies across the nation.
Constellation disclosed months ago that it was exploring options for restarting Three Mile Island, which sits along the Susquehanna River. The news was met with mixed reactions. Nuclear safety advocates expressed alarm. But some community leaders welcomed the development, seeing potential to revive an economic anchor in a region beset with financial hardship. A study funded by the Pennsylvania Building & Construction Trades Council says a reopening would create 3,400 jobs at the plant and in businesses serving it and its workers, and generate $3 billion in state and federal taxes.
The tax breaks in the Inflation Recovery Act are crucial to making the deal economically feasible, according to Constellation. They provide a credit for every megawatt hour of nuclear energy produced.
Constellation declined to provide details about its contract with Microsoft or disclose the value of tax credits. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has said in the past that federal subsidies could cut the cost of bringing a new plant on line by as much as half.
The announcement of the Microsoft deal follows an agreement Amazon reached with Talen Energy to purchase power produced by the financially troubled Susquehanna nuclear plant for a planned data center campus in Pennsylvania. That arrangement is running into snags with regulators, as regional utilities express concern that their ratepayers will be saddled with the bill for the power grid updates needed.
Amazon’s plan also raised concerns among clean-energy advocates that tech companies are shifting from driving the transition to clean energy to elbowing others out of it by claiming such large amounts of available clean electricity for themselves.
Dominguez argues that the Three Mile Island case is an example of how Silicon Valley’s outside-the-box thinking will help stabilize the power grid for everyone. The power from the plant will not go directly to Microsoft facilities but into the overtaxed regional power grid that serves 65 million people across 13 states and the District of Columbia, called the PJM Interconnection.
Nuclear power is considered “clean” because unlike burning natural gas or coal to produce electricity, it does not create greenhouse gas emissions. The plants are expensive to build or restart, and industry still has no long-term solution for spent but highly radioactive uranium fuel rods.
“This agreement is a major milestone in Microsoft’s efforts to help decarbonize the grid in support of our commitment to become carbon negative,” said a statement from Bobby Hollis, vice president of energy at Microsoft.
Dominguez said other ratepayers on the PJM grid will not be expected to shoulder any of the costs, nor will Constellation be seeking special subsidies fromthe state of Pennsylvania.
Constellation has already been doing extensive testing at Three Mile Island. It says most of its components are ready to operate again. “The plant is in extraordinary shape,” Dominguez said.
Three Mile Island is not the only nuclear plant the industry is eager to revive. The owners of a plant in Western Michigan called Palisades are also working to bring that dormant facility back. That project was approved for a $1.5 billion federal loan guarantee. The plant owner, Holtec, says it hopes to feed nuclear energy from Palisades into the region’s power grid by late next year.
The Palisades effort came about at the urging of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), as her state struggles to both meet its climate goals and generate adequate energy. The plant was destined for permanent closure when Holtec acquired it in 2022. The company had planned to decommission the facility but changed course after conversations with the governor.
On Wednesday, though, that plan was dealt a setback when federal nuclear regulators disclosed “a large number of steam generator tubes” could be faulty and need further inspection. Holtec said the finding does not alter its plans. But some nuclear safety advocates argue the company’s push to quickly reopen the plant puts the public at risk.
The huge cost and regulatory headaches associated with nuclear power are not deterring the tech industry from betting on it. In a remarkable turn of fortune for an industry that just a few years ago was struggling to stay competitive and focused mostly on closing plants, it now finds itself in expansion mode. Beyond seeking contracts for power from existing plants, tech companies are also bullish on next generation nuclear technologies.
Several are investigating the potential of locating their facilities near small modular nuclear reactors that could feed them power directly. Such technology is in its infancy and has not yet been approved by regulators. That isn’t stopping a company chaired by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates from doubling down on it. The firm, called Terra Power, this year began construction at what it plans to be a small reactor site in site in Wyoming.
Microsoft is also pursuing power from nuclear fusion, a potentially abundant, cheap and clean form of electricity that scientists have been trying to develop for decades — and most say is still a decade or more away from generating electricity. Microsoft has signed a contract to purchase fusion energy from a start-up that claims it can deliver it by 2028.
