Guidelines for requests & commissions
As a rule of thumb, Diabolik Lovers-related translations are always my priority and I sometimes write for fun. I do not take requests for writing (short stories, headcanons, reacts, scenarios and the like), though paid commissions are negotiable! Creative writing is quite a personal and subjective thing for me, so I tend to be selective as I want to ensure that I have enough inspiration and fun while writing in order to deliver a quality product. Please reach out through DM if you’d like to discuss a paid commission! Thank you for your understanding ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧
When requesting/commissioning a translation, please be aware of the following: ☽ Please provide the source materials which you would like to have translated. I do not have the financial means nor the time to personally buy all of the drama CDs or tokuten for all 13 characters, for example, so if you want something translated: please include a link to the source materials. These could be links to audio files on SoundCloud and BiliBili, or links to Tumblr posts with scans of short stories or interviews and the like. ☽ In all cases, it is your own responsibility to ensure that the source materials—particularly fan-made artwork and scans—have been acquired with full permission from the original poster. If the original poster has NOT given you permission to repost or reuse/translate the materials in question, I will NOT translate them. ☽ This probably goes without saying, but I do these translations for fun—I enjoy doing them, but I am also busy in my daily life. I will try my best to finish and post the translation as soon as possible after your request, but I give no guarantees on how long they will take. I do work relatively quickly given my current language skills in Japanese, but the time I can spend on translating varies per week. ☽ If you would like me to translate Japanese-language materials from other otome franchises or pop culture related things, please consult with me and I’ll see what I can do! ☽ DO NOT REPOST ANY OF MY TRANSLATIONS ELSEWHERE, IN ANY FORM WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING VIDEO), OR TRANSLATE MY WORK TO OTHER LANGUAGES WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

do u have some ways/explanations I could logically become rich and wealthy? I wanna be a billionaire but I just can’t imagine doing that without being unethical…
I was just thinking of this question a few days ago and consulted with ChatGPT, so I have the answers ready and loaded!
Ways to become super ultra rich without having to resort to unethical or immoral methods/practices:
› Entrepreneurship: Start your own business in a growing industry. Identify a gap in the market, create a product or service that meets a need, and scale it. Focus on innovation and customer satisfaction.
› Investing: Educate yourself on investing in stocks, real estate, or other assets. Consider long-term investment strategies, such as index funds or rental properties, which can compound wealth over time.
› Build a Personal Brand: Create a strong online presence in your field. Share knowledge through blogs, podcasts, or social media, and leverage your brand for consulting, speaking engagements, or product endorsements.
› Develop Valuable Skills: Acquire skills in high-demand fields like technology, finance, or healthcare. Expertise can lead to high-paying job opportunities or freelance work.
› Networking: Build relationships with influential people in your industry. Networking can lead to collaborations, partnerships, and opportunities that can significantly boost your wealth.
› Innovate and Create: Focus on research and development in emerging fields, such as renewable energy, biotechnology, or artificial intelligence. Invent new products or improve existing ones.
› Real Estate Development: Invest in real estate, starting with rental properties or flipping houses. Learn the market and focus on areas with potential growth.
› Passive Income Streams: Create sources of passive income, such as writing books, creating online courses, or investing in dividend-paying stocks.
› Franchise Ownership: Consider investing in a reputable franchise. This can provide a proven business model and brand recognition while allowing you to operate your own business.
› Philanthropy and Ethical Investing: Invest in socially responsible businesses or initiatives. This can lead to both financial returns and positive societal impact, enhancing your reputation and network.
Ways to “stumble” into wealth without (directly) hoarding wealth:
› Inheriting Wealth: Unexpectedly inheriting wealth from a distant unknown relative or family friend.
› Winning the Lottery: Not a very sustainable source of income but it works.
› Discovering Hidden Talents: Uncovering a unique skill or talent that becomes highly valued—like writing a bestselling book or creating viral content.
› Investing Early: Accidentally investing in a promising startup or stock that later skyrockets in value.
› Networking: Making a valuable connection at a social event that leads to a lucrative job or business opportunity.
› Crowdfunding Success: Launching a project that resonates with a broad audience, leading to substantial financial backing.
› Accidental Invention: Creating a product by chance that fills a market need, like a popular app or gadget.

Well, Void Rivals #16, on the letters page, officially announced an intent from Robert Kirkman and friends to push Hasbro for an Energon Universe TV show. The letters page, "Talk to the Handroid", had them saying this:
"...And having an Energon Hour TV series would be amazing...fingers crossed that Hasbro might see the value in that too."
"Yeah, wouldn't that be the coolest thing ever! Fingers triple crossed."
It's the first time that Kirkman and friends at Skybound have declared an open intention to get an adaptation of the Energon Universe made. While Hasbro normally does not directly adapt the comics, preferring instead to selectively import elements from them into shows and films, here there are a few things that might work in Kirkman's favor.
Transformers itself has been on a major financial downturn since roughly 2014 when Age of Extinction broke $1 billion at the box office like Dark of the Moon did. Since then it's been a continued decrease in theatrical profits, one show bombing after another in numerous markets, and in 2024, the first Transformers movie to definitively lose money at the box office coupled with the complete failure of Transformers Earthspark as a television show.
The potential for G.I. Joe to get a major animated series after a decade drought and its own less-than-well-received movies. G.I. Joe #1 was the best-selling non-Marvel/DC comic of 2024 and the Kickstarter for the hardcovers of Larry Hama's seminal Marvel run pulled down $3,794,167, and while naysayers will argue the latter was mostly fueled by civil service workers and dentists who grew up reading Joe at a local 7-11, the new comic being that successful has shown a public that is willing to engage in Joe stories that embrace the more fantastical elements of the franchise vs. what their detractors fear as a more jingoistic military story (not that Joe was guilty of that in the Hama comics which did a lot to dispel romanticism with the military, but it's an inevitable part of selling soldier toys).
Robert Kirkman, unlike previous writers such as Simon Furman (a work-for-hire turned editor at Marvel who got his big break after G1 the cartoon was canceled and was later invited to write the finale of Beast Wars and X-Men Evolution, as well as consult on the Bay films) and James Roberts (whose books never sold well and these days seems to be persona non grata at Hasbro, not without cause mind you), has a track record of turning successful comic books into successful TV shows, starting with The Walking Dead, Outcast, and now including Invincible. He's done this before and knows how to make adaptation work from page-to-screen. He also has the success to push it with the comics, since we wouldn't be having this conversation if Transformers was doing Lost Light numbers.
So with Kirkman actively pushing for a show now, and Hasbro itself only releasing possibly one more Earthspark special and a Youtube only show, an Energon Universe show may be much more attractive than it was when the initiative started in 2023. Will they do it? Only time will tell.

Urban Gods Worship System
(I'm terrible at posting information about this project xD; )
So in the world of Urban Gods, it's basically the world of the myths, they just have cars and Instagram (btw, I'm open to suggestions on how to make "Instagram" a Greek mythology pun xD), and I wanted to come up with a replacement for animal sacrifices since that's no longer really a thing in our modern day society. While it is common to use altar worship, item and food offerings and prayers of a lot of modern worshippers in our world, since this is a world where gods are also active members of society, there's another, far more popular method - patronizing establishments owned by the gods themselves.
Several major gods own restaurants, hotels, chain stores and other establishments, while more minor gods, as well as nymphs, satyrs, and other benign creatures, will often be employed there. The following is a master list of establishments I have plotted out so far, and who owns and works for them...
Hades - Inferis - A subterranian casino resort in Athens; Charon, the Furies and the Keres will cycle working the different security posts, Thanatos works as waitstaff in the bar/restaurant areas, Hypnos works the front desk on the hotel side, Hecate appears to work some sort of upper management position, and Minthe works as the casino host at the beginning of the story, eventually being replaced by Persephone. Hermes frequently works as a bartender, and all other positions are often filled by unnamed nymphs, gorgons, and other Underworld creatures.
Zeus - Vronti - A luxury hotel chain, with the flagship location in Athens, overlooking the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Thetis works as the concierge, Hermes will work odd jobs throughout the whole building, Hephaestus leads the maintenance crew, and Hera appears to have some sort of job there, but it's somewhat unclear exactly what as through most of the story she and Zeus are hovering between their good terms and their bad terms xD
Poseidon - Atlantis - A small chain of beach tiki bars with "hidden" drug den areas. I haven't quite worked out where the flagship location is, but most of the time the location seen is the one in Athens. And yes... Athena hates that he has a location in Athens, which Poseidon denies being because of his grudge. Claims, "Well, my brothers have their flagship locations here, mortals would ask questions if I didn't, too...!" Pretty much all positions are filled by different sea nymphs and creatures and aren't individually identified yet.
Demeter and Dionysus - A farm/vineyard in Sicily with a shop attached. Basically it's an enormous farm property that different parts are run by Demeter or Dionysus, Persephone basically runs the shop, Plutus offers financial consulting, Triptolemus cares for the animals on site, and various nymphs and satyrs assist in other areas. Additionally, Dionysus also works as the drink master for all three of the kings' establishments.
Athena - A university in Athens. Not much else is developed about it so far as the only scene written involving it is a brief shot of a classroom and just exposits how the gods are "technically not related" according to my world, but Athena is the dean as well as teaching classes.
Hephaestus - Has no direct stores or anything, but is basically the diving force behind mortals developing computers and robotics.
Ares - Basically runs the this world's equivalent to the UFC, which, because it's run by Ares is a mite more violent than in our world. He also has a gym he operates in Sparta that Phobos and Deimos can often be seen working as personal trainers ar.
Aphrodite - A chain of adult toy stores that are franchised to Eros and the rest of her and Ares' kids, while she'll also offer love advice for a fee at the flagship location in Sparta (somewhere within walking distance to Ares' gym).
Apollo - Works as a pop idol, beyond that I don't really have much developed.
Artemis - Like Apollo, not very developed yet, but the idea that she runs a popular hunting blog.
Hestia - Owns a spa resort known for its luxurious food and services.
More will be edited in as I develop more/remember things as I was sick from stress at the original time of posting this. Follow me for more updates on this project and incorrect quotes! :)

Very unpopular opinions about Gone Girl (the film because it's very different from the book).
Nick didn't feel remorse for cheating on Amy. The shit he said in the interview was a ploy to get her out of hiding to clear his name. He was manipulating her. Nothing he said in that interview was truthful (like I'm pretty sure he later admits)
Amy was a ticking time bomb. There were already hints that Amy was dropping her Cool Girl persona since they moved to Missouri. Even if Nick didn't cheat, sooner or later, she would have gone-girl-ed his ass.
Nick also had the equivalent of a Cool Girl persona. The recession led him to drop it.
Amy telling Nick she got her parents out of debt with her trust fund mirrors when Nick moved them to Missouri. With out consulting the other party and not letting them voice their opinion. It showed that they both contributed to the unhealthiness of the relationship.
Amy was always in control of the relationship, especially when things were going to shit. She owned his job, probably the house and controlled all the finances. Pretty sure Nick's whole upset with the prenup thing is that Amy does control the finances.
Desi Collings is just like Amy just in a different font.
Nick was not as bad as Amy IN THE MOVIE. I know, crucify me. He's a cheat, lazy, has no ambitions, slightly misogynistic, sleeps with his student who is half his age. But, none of these are crimes (Andie was over the age of consent but's it's immoral. He's a pig). Amy commits crimes and wastes police resources. She kills a man not in self-defence, fakes a rape accusation, (tries to) frames Nick for kidnapping and murdering her, stole his sperm and impregnated herself. Plus, she's also slightly misogynistic and classist. Movie!Nick and Movie!Amy are not comparable. Yes, they are both awful people but Amy defiantly is the worst. Book Nick seems to be just as bad. Again book doesn't equal movie.
Amy was always a psychopath saying Nick drove her to psychopathy or any other version of this is quite dumb ngl and ignores Tommy O'Hara. Hell, her actions with Tommy makes me even more sure even if Nick didn't cheat she still would have punished him.
I truly believe Nick did want to leave her. It is said by Amy herself that she knew he wanted a divorce. Nick was shown to want to leave during the end of the movie. Literally, the only reason he stayed was because of the child, the whole outrage that would follow (Interestingly, this could be seen as Nick's own preoccupation of controlling his image).
Amy is the more unreliable narrator compared to Nick mainly due to Nick having a voice of reason, Margo, while Amy doesn't. (Unless I'm under his spell. But I don't think so because I hate Ben in the DCEU and that colors my perception across franchises. Came into this movie full expected to hate Nick as much as Amy or more so but left surprised.)
While I understand uprooting one's life and moving across the country with out the other partners input is quite upsetting and can make you feel like shit. A person was dying. Amy's feelings are valid but like. Cancer? Taking care of dying mother? Amy expected Nick to be OK with a huge financial decision to help her parents, make some allowance. Rubbed me the wrong way. I'm a family gal.
Amy may have loved Nick at one point, kinda like Nick loved Amy at one point, but she ultimately sees relationships and love as a form of winning. This seems to stem from her childhood as she was always one step behind Amazing Amy. All her mistakes were washed away clean in Amazing Amy and sold to the masses. Everyone could see just would Amy couldn't do. Because of this, Amy doesn't see herself as a person as much as a character in a story, expect this time she controls it. She's going to have a picture perfect marriage and thus life. Thus she wins at life. This is also very half-baked and formed by one watch of the movie.
Amy wasn't abused by Nick. Amy fictionalized most of their life in Missouri(She's an unreliable narrator). Like it was revealed that Nick hated Amy and that he wanted kids while Amy didn't. The whole "Let's have kids" fight seems very improbably with this information. Unless I'm under Nick's influence. Plus, Amy doesn't seem that afraid of Nick even when he is violent with her.
The Cool Girl monologue while hits some true points to the idea that society values woman to change themselves to be picked by a man. But it also implies a heteronormative society, implies that woman absolutely cannot like shit like football on their own as they are only doing it for men, acts as if liking things are unnatural for woman, makes sexist judgment of random woman she literally passes who are hopefully living their best life, and is sex negative.
preemptive warning because fandoms can be really toxic for some reason. Don't interact if you don't like.

Blacula Vs Sugar Hill (1975)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blacula Vs Sugar Hill (1975). Starring William Marshall, Marki Bey and Yaphet Kotto. Based on a screenplay by Bill Gunn and directed by Larry Cohen.
In 1975, American International Pictures decided to roll the dice one last time on the Blacula franchise; but this time, the vampire would be facing another AIP original – Sugar Hill. With a script by Ganja & Hess (1973) writer and director Bill Gunn, and directed by Larry Cohen, Blacula Vs Sugar Hill (also known as Blacula Lives!) found a reluctant William Marshall returning to the role of Prince Mamuwalde, and Marki Bey once again sliding into the white jumpsuit of Diana ‘Sugar’ Hill.
Other members of the cast included Yaphet Kotto as the menacing bokor, Mr. Sunlight; Julius Harris as hitman turned vampire, Turner; Art Lund as scheming mob boss Morgan; Don Pedro Colley as Baron Samedi; Geoffrey Holder as Baron Cimitière; Zara Cully as Mama Maitresse; Don Mitchell as Justin Carter; Thalmus Rasulala as Dr. Gordon Thomas; with a special cameo by Pam Grier, who reprised her role as Lisa Fortier in a stunning dream sequence that Roger Ebert called ‘phantasmagorical and indulgent’.
A sequel to both Scream Blacula Scream (1974) and Sugar Hill (1974), the film opened with Mamuwalde’s resurrection by the villainous Mr. Sunlight. Sunlight, working for mob-boss Pretty Johnny Morgan, has drawn Mamuwalde back to the land of the living for one purpose: to destroy the woman who calls herself Sugar Hill.
What follows is an overstuffed-but-exciting seventy-minute psychedelic showdown between the living, the dead, and the in-between. Zombies battle vampires; Baron Samedi is captured by Sunlight’s magics; Mamuwalde’s old foes, Justin Carter and Gordon Thomas, are summoned by Baron Cimitière to fight the vampire; Mr. Sunlight matches his mystic powers against those of Mama Maitresse; and in the gore-soaked finale, Mamuwalde and Sugar Hill put aside their differences and invade Sunlight’s island-fortress, battling undead mobsters in an effort to reach the man responsible for their respective difficulties.
The film proved to be a moderate success, revitalizing AIP’s then-waning interest in horror films. Marki Bey was quickly signed to a two-picture deal for further Sugar Hill sequels, including Sweet Babylon (1977) – written and directed by Gunn – and Sugar Hill in Hell (1979), written and directed by John Carpenter, with a script consultation by Dario Argento. Kurt Russell had a notable role in the film as lycanthropic gangster Johnny Moon.
Marshall, less interested in returning as Mamuwalde, was nonetheless convinced to give it a fourth and final go in Blacula, Prince of Darkness (1976), which was the first – though not the last – of AIP’s joint-ventures with overseas studios – in this case, Hammer. In the film, Mamuwalde finally comes to grips with Dracula – played by an equally reluctant Christopher Lee – in a ‘senses-shattering showdown of the supernatural’.
While neither actor is what one might call invested, the very act of sharing a screen seemed to bring out the best in both Lee and Marshall, and the confrontation between them proved memorable – just as senses-shattering as promised. Appearances by Don Mitchell as Justin Carter and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing cemented the film’s status as a cult classic, as did Gene Page’s return for the soundtrack.
The success of its horror catalogue kept AIP financially afloat in the difficult years ahead. A revitalised Samuel Arkoff turned his attentions to new properties, including The Mist (1980) and Escape from Detroit (1981), both written and directed by John Carpenter, with script assistance from Nick Castle and Bill Gunn. Escape from Detroit was followed by two sequels – Escape from Hollywood (1984) and Escape from Hell (1985). All three films starred Kurt Russell and Yaphet Kotto, with Lee Van Cleef as the embittered Bob Hauk.
But with both Bey and Marshall moving on to greener pastures in the early eighties, AIP was forced to get creative with its horror films. Fresh off of his run on Ironside (1967-1975), Don Mitchell agreed to reprise his role as Justin Carter for further films. The first of these, Q (1982), was directed by Larry Cohen and found occult expert Carter locked in battle with another supernatural menace and lumbered with a conniving sidekick, Jimmy Quinn, ably played by Michael Moriarty.
The duo proved to be popular enough that Cohen agreed to direct another two, including The Substance (1985), which finds Carter and Quinn investigating an alien menace, and Monster Cop (1988), which had the distinction of being written by Cohen himself, and saw the duo go up against Robert Z’dar’s titular undead cop.
The Carter and Quinn films were followed by a short lived and largely forgettable television series, Carter & Quinn, that lasted for a single season. Even a surprise appearance by William Marshall as Mamuwalde in the season finale did little to perk up the ratings but it found a new lease on life later, on DVD.
More happily, Cohen and Z’dar would go on to write Monster Cop II: Bloody Justice (1990), which positioned Z’dar’s monstrous Cordell as an anti-hero, fighting a corrupt police force. Bloody Justice was the first of a popular direct-to-video series, and co-starred Robert Davi and Laurene Landon. While a possible crossover with several of AIP's other horror stars were posited, Cordell never encounters his predecessors. The closest he comes is an encounter with Don Pedro Colley's Baron Samedi in Monster Cop IV: Voodoo Beat (1995). Cohen, a fan of the 'AIP Expanded Universe' as some critics have begun to call it, encouraged fans to view it as an unofficial Sugar Hill crossover.
By the late Nineties, the well of creativity at AIP was at last beginning to run dry. Arkoff had long since retired, and AIP was soon bought out by a struggling Orion Pictures Corporation. When Orion was bought in its turn by Metro-Goldwyn Mayer, the AIP catalogue vanished into the vaults – until 2018, when remastered Blu-Ray editions of the Blacula and Sugar Hill films were released to great acclaim.

Interview by Soichiro Morita in Weekly Toyo Keizai magazine, Translated by @SupaChronicles (link to Twitter thread) (transposed below, minus the first chunk which is talking about how financially successful Dragon Ball is as a franchise)
In March, the original author Akira Toriyama passed away, much to the regret of many. However, the momentum of Dragon Ball shows no signs of slowing down and continues to accelerate worldwide. Regarding its appeal, those involved unanimously agree: "It's the simplicity. When we analyzed why the games became hits in North America, it seemed that the straightforwardness of 'Let's fight to see who is the strongest,' which can be enjoyed without much thought, resonated with people," said an insider from Bandai Namco Group. Major Uproar Due to "Person-in-Charge Going Independent" Last year, there was an incident that caused an uproar in the business over this work [Dragon Ball]. In May 2023, Akio Iyoku, former head of Shueisha's Dragon Ball Room*, went independent with several subordinates and established a new company, Capsule Corporation Tokyo, named after a fictional company that appears in the series, with the aim of managing creative activities and handling intellectual property rights. Mr. Iyoku became the head of the Dragon Ball Room in 2016 after serving as Editor-in-Chief of V Jump. A Shueisha insider recalls, "Without consulting his superiors, Mr. Iyoku unilaterally decided to make a film adaptation of Toriyama-sensei's 'SAND LAND'. He always focused on serving the author, for better or worse. At the same time, there was criticism from anime production companies and TV networks that he had a condescending attitude." In addition to these evaluations, progress was lacking in collaborations with the metaverse and AI that higher-ups were anticipating. As a result, in 2022, he was reassigned to a new business department. This unwelcome transfer became the trigger and within a year, Iyoku went independent. Taking over the role of Toriyama's spokesperson on behalf of Shueisha, Iyoku's actions raised the risk of Shueisha losing its 'Dragon Ball' rights. "Toriyama-sensei was also dissatisfied with Iyoku being removed, as he trusted him the most. Chairman Marue Horiuchi of Shueisha even went directly to Toriyama's residence in Aichi Prefecture, but he couldn't persuade him to stay," said the aforementioned Shueisha insider. This put Bandai Namco, which had been making a fortune with games with 'Dokkan Battle', in a difficult position. "Iyoku, who was Toriyama-sensei's spokesperson, became independent, but the rights to the manga were managed by Shueisha. It was unclear who to consult regarding matters related to the original work." "Meetings about Dragon Ball were organized very vaguely, with 'all relevant parties' being invited, which subtly included both Iyoku and Shueisha representatives, making the coordination extremely stressful," said the aforementioned Bandai Namco insider. Toriyama's passing occurred amidst this battle over rights. The discussions continued without the original author, and "the disputes have been ongoing and still remain unresolved," noted a Shueisha employee. Some industry executives are looking towards a resolution that involves the family, saying, "It depends on how the family feels about it." The question remains who will ultimate take the lead in managing this massive IP. The future of the bogged-down battle, which is not befitting a shonen manga, remains unclear.
*The Dragon Ball Room was/is a division within Shueisha (publisher of Shonen Jump) that was dedicated exclusively to Dragon Ball, founded in 2016, basically after Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' reminded everyone Dragon Ball was still unbelievably massively popular.
tl;dr: In 2023, the guy responsible for managing the Dragon Ball IP- Akio Iyoku- decided to break away from Shueisha and form a new company intended to manage the Dragon Ball IP, with Toriyama's encouragement. This was after Iyoku got demoted internally for being more loyal to Akira Toriyama than to Shueisha with some business decisions that are, in my opinion, Very Good and signal him as being an True-Blue Akira Toriyama Guy. Unfortunately, Toriyama's passing occurred while this was all going on, so the situation is really rough, especially for licensors like Bandai Namco (and presumably Toei) who aren't really sure who to consult for forthcoming projects.

I've had a thought on Game Theory and MatPat ever since I watched Big Joel's video on some of his film theories, and I guess this is the last chance to share it with any relevancy.
Game Theory was really important to me at some point, even as I increasingly saw the flaws. I fantasized about being MatPat: being a conventionally-attractive, able-bodied theater kid/science nerd with the full American Dream house-family dealio. I think that, whatever criticisms you may have, the videos have always been more harmless than not. They were like candy, and I enjoyed them as such.
But, at times there has been an undercurrent of something weird, something more nefarious. I first noticed it with his Scott Cawthon apologia.
After the news broke about the FNAF creator donating huge sums of money to support the campaign of Donald Trump and other conservative politicians, there was a huge backlash, especially from LGBT. Fan gave Scott Cawthon money, and he used that money to cause harm to them and theirs. MatPat's response is some centrist BS about how it wasn't about homophobia for Cawthon, it was about "national defense" (which is also bad for different reasons, and at best paints Cawthon as apathetic to the harm he's causing), and how even though it's okay to feel betrayed, it doesn't mean we should stop supporting the games, because the fan community has grown larger than one man.
As someone whose brand is deeply entwined with FNAF, the financial incentives for The Game Theorists are obvious; they weren't about to stop working with this franchise or its creator, they didn't want to tarnish their reputation by admitting past fault, and they needed to keep the cash cow rolling. So, they worked backwards from those conclusions to rationalize those decisions to their audience.
Then there are the more mundane gripes with the theorist channels: that videos are churned out so rapidly that they make sloppy errors, that they primarily advertise to children (with all the ethical ickiness that entails), that they use content from small creators without giving proper credit or linking to the sources, that the videos are overloaded with ads, usually including a paid sponsorship, several minutes of shilling their own store, and the usual youtube ads on top.
I think all of this speaks to the channels' underlying philosophy, and it's the philosophy of liberalism, by which I mean that marriage between capitalism and democracy. On the one hand, this is a moneymaking venture. It always has to be about making as much money as possible. But on the other hand, it needs to be (or seem, or allow the creators to feel) moral, and so the result is a view of the world where, yes, the company is trying to squeeze out as much money as possible, but also them getting more money is a good thing that benefits everyone. They do charity streams. They employ people. They "educate." "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good."
I'm not just guessing at the motives here. Matpat has been transparent about Game Theory's Origin Story on multiple occasions. It's part of the narrative that justifies the channels' existence. At some point, Matpat pursued theater as a career. In college, he got his first taste of something like poverty, struggling to get by, camping out at McDonald's with its free refills and wifi (a life I've also lived at times and perhaps the origin of the Diet Coke fixation). And it scared the hell out of him. I don't think it could have had that kind of traumatic effect if he had not lived in privilege until that point. He didn't want to feel financially insecure ever again.
The solution was to create the Game Theory channel as a bridge into a much more lucrative career as a corporate consultant. Creating a popular, financially-viable youtube channel allowed him to sell himself as a social media expert to out of touch corporations. He's not really hiding that he's a sellout, just arguing that selling out is a good thing.
All in all, I can't bring myself to hate Game Theory. It had its place. But neither can I celebrate it, or look back with unconditional nostalgia. The problems with Game Theory are the problems with Youtube and the problems of capitalism. We compromise a little to survive, we compromise everything to make it big, and saddest of all are those who sell out and get nothing for it. The channels will continue without Matpat, and if the channels die, there will be countless other identical creators ready to take their place.

Is Disregarding the Expert Franchising Advice a Risk that You Can Afford?
Tumblr media
Starting a franchise business is a challenge in itself. The journey of launching a company has its own complexities. An appealing option to eliminate the errors is to schedule professional franchise advice. As experts are aware of the market well, they offer a clear path. Ignoring franchising assistance can lead to significant pitfalls.
Why Is Franchising Advice Essential?
When you invest in a franchise store, theoretically this can increase your chances of success. However, this does not mean you can obtain significant returns on demand. Seeking professional guidance can help you eliminate making costly mistakes. This includes-
Legal Compliance
The Franchise Code of Conduct regulates franchise relationships and ensures transparency. This must cover the areas like dispute resolution and disclosure requirements. So, you need legal advice for its robust drafting; otherwise, there is a high chance of serious issues that might result in penalties.
Financial Management
Investing in a franchise store can be risky if you don’t consider your finances. However, this does not require investing a huge amount. After discussing with a professional, you can become aware of your budgeting requirements and create a sustainable cash flow plan.
Choosing the Right Franchisee
It is not advised to rush the decision of picking a franchisee. As you have to perform complete research, consultants can guide you in finding the strength of a candidate to help you make a wise decision. Without this expert advice, it can be difficult to align everything with your goals.
Building a Robust Marketing Strategy
Local marketing must be done with responsibility. Underestimating this process can be a mistake as you have to deal with competitive markets. Experts know how to develop a tailored marketing plan to boost foot traffic. They can craft effective local campaigns on your behalf.
Day-to-Day Operation Management
Running a successful franchise store follows a set of instructions. Although franchisors provide comprehensive training to franchisees, there can be issues. Disregarding professional advice can result in inconsistent service quality and poor store performance.
Stay Adaptable and Competitive with the Help of Experts!
Franchising is evolving with every passing year. Trends shift and you can find new competitors every time. To remain competitive in this market, you must adapt to the changes and build your business strategies accordingly.
After consulting with experts, you can even stay on top of emerging trends. However, disregarding advice from professionals can leave your franchise vulnerable. The right advice can help you navigate the changes tactfully and let you franchise your business successfully.
Final Words
While franchising has a relatively low-risk when compared to new business ownership, this doesn’t guarantee your success. Ignoring expert franchise advice in critical areas can lead to uncertain issues related to financial management and adaptability. Even with an appropriate structure, you cannot afford to set up the new store to continuously boost profits.
In this competitive market and with consumer expectations shifting, the only way to eliminate uncertain consequences is to opt for expert assistance. With the knowledge and insights they provide, this can create a big difference in your dream of franchising your business.

How to Start a Successful Franchise Business in India
Tumblr media
Franchising has become a booming industry, offering entrepreneurs a proven business model with reduced risks. With a rapidly growing consumer base and an increasing preference for established brands, Franchise Businesses in India present a lucrative opportunity. Whether you’re looking to invest in a food chain, retail brand, or service-based franchise, understanding the right steps to launch and sustain your franchise is crucial.
Steps to Starting a Successful Franchise Business in India
1. Understand the Franchise Model
Before diving into franchising, it’s important to understand how it works. A franchise is a business model where an established company (franchisor) grants the right to an individual (franchisee) to operate its brand, products, and services. The franchisee pays an initial investment fee and ongoing royalties in exchange for brand recognition, training, and operational support.
There are different types of franchise models:
Product Distribution Franchise – The franchisee sells the franchisor’s products (e.g., Coca-Cola, Amul).
Business Format Franchise – The franchisee adopts the entire business model, including branding and operations (e.g., McDonald's, Domino’s).
Manufacturing Franchise – The franchisee produces and sells the franchisor’s products (e.g., bottling plants).
Service-Based Franchise – The franchisee provides services under the brand name (e.g., education, salons, fitness centers).
Choosing the right model is key to success.
2. Choose the Right Franchise Business
Selecting the right franchise is crucial to long-term success. Here’s how to make an informed decision:
A. Research Market Demand
Analyze industries with high growth potential in India. Some of the most profitable franchise sectors include:
Food & Beverage (QSRs like McDonald's, KFC, Subway)
Retail (Apparel, Grocery chains, and Electronics)
Education (Preschools, Coaching Institutes, and EdTech brands)
Healthcare (Diagnostics, Pharmacies, and Fitness Centers like Anytime Fitness)
Beauty & Wellness (Salons, Spas, and Cosmetic Clinics)
B. Evaluate Brand Reputation
Check the credibility of the franchisor, customer reviews, and financial performance. A strong brand will help attract customers easily.
C. Assess Investment and ROI
Franchises require different levels of investment. Some low-cost franchises in India start from ₹5-10 lakhs, while premium brands may require crores. Consider:
Initial franchise fees
Setup costs (rent, equipment, staff, interiors)
Royalty payments to the franchisor
Break-even period and expected ROI
3. Legal & Financial Requirements
A. Franchise Agreement
A franchise agreement is a legal contract outlining the franchisor’s terms, including:
Rights and obligations of both parties
Duration and renewal terms
Fees and royalty structure
Territorial rights and restrictions
Consult a legal expert before signing the agreement to avoid disputes.
B. Business Registration & Licensing
To legally operate a franchise, you must register your business entity (Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, LLP, or Private Limited Company). Depending on your industry, you may need licenses like:
FSSAI License (for food businesses)
GST Registration
Shop and Establishment License
Trademark and IP agreements
C. Financial Planning
Franchising requires significant capital, so plan your finances carefully. You can fund your business through:
Personal savings
Business loans from banks and NBFCs
Government schemes like MUDRA loans
Angel investors or venture capital
4. Location & Infrastructure Setup
The success of a franchise heavily depends on location. Choose a high-footfall area that aligns with your target audience. Consider factors like:
Demographics and purchasing power
Competitor presence
Rental costs and space availability
Once you secure a location, follow the franchisor’s setup guidelines regarding store layout, branding, and equipment.
5. Training & Operations Management
Franchise businesses in India benefit from structured training programs provided by franchisors. These programs cover:
Product knowledge
Sales and customer service
Operational processes and SOPs
Marketing and brand compliance
Hiring and training skilled staff is also essential for smooth operations.
6. Marketing & Branding Strategies
Even with a reputed franchise, local marketing is key to business growth. Combine online and offline strategies:
A. Digital Marketing
Social Media Promotion (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Google Ads & SEO for Local Search
Influencer Marketing & Customer Reviews
B. Traditional Marketing
Flyers, newspaper ads, and local events
Referral programs and discounts
Collaborations with nearby businesses
Most franchisors offer national-level branding, but local efforts drive customer engagement.
7. Customer Service & Retention
Providing excellent customer service ensures repeat business. Implement:
Personalized customer experiences
Loyalty programs and discounts
Fast response to complaints and feedback
Happy customers lead to positive word-of-mouth marketing.
8. Monitor & Scale Your Business
Once your franchise is running successfully, focus on growth strategies:
Regularly track sales and performance metrics
Expand into multi-unit franchising
Negotiate better terms with the franchisor
Reinvest profits into business development
Some franchisees eventually become master franchisees, controlling multiple outlets in a region.
Conclusion
Starting a franchise business in India is an excellent way to enter entrepreneurship with reduced risks and strong brand support. By choosing the right franchise, securing proper legal agreements, and implementing effective marketing strategies, you can build a thriving business.
