I watched Gladiator II and the whole time it felt like i was watching the "story beats" of a movie and not the actual full story--like reading a book's summary and then writing an essay with limited information on the matter. i think a lot of the story was left on the cutting room floor, but denzel was having fun, pedro was gorgeously conflicted and mescal's nose was perfectly cast! i enjoyed it nonetheless but so many big-name directors are making half-theatrically-digestable projects as follow-ups to or entry pieces into their "magnum opus" and i don't know how to feel about what this means for film's future tbh.

personally I think the best thing that the joker sequel did for me was expose the exact degree to which how much of internet/public criticism is not based on genuine analysis of the content using social and cultural resources to support an actual argument but is actually adult children whining because someone took their batman toys and put them up on a high shelf for once and they, as a consumer, feel like they're entitled to throw a tantrum about it

#one of those 'if everyone's a critic no one will be' kind of situations #like every day I have to see 30 youtube thumbnails saying 'joker 2 bad' and then they say 'this scene was bad' and the only evidence they #give for their reasoning on it is 'it didn't make sense' and I want to turn into my english teacher and give reading comprehension question #like. if something doesn't make sense then why not examine the deeper reasoning that led you to that conclusion? why not then also entertai #the circumstances in which the situation would be plausible? you know? find some actual answers? but that is too much to ask of people #truly the gulf between a really well educated opinion analyzing the actual content rather than knee-jerking and saying 'I don't like it' is #far and fucking wide. I literally have only found ONE video essay that actually does a decent job talking about theme and the cohesion #between the two movies about the gulf between reality and fantasy which I thought was REALLY a good and thoughtful take on it all #but the rest of them are just like 'OOOOH MOVIE BAD MOVIE SO BAD'#like. you can't just say that!!! I know it's the internet and it's edged your ego enough to make you think you can #but some of us would like you to unpack your actual reasoning. but you do not have the capacity for that. clearly #go back to ninth grade for god's sake like this is a really basic skill for actually analyzing narrative and film and you do not have it #joker #folie a deux #joker 2 #arthur fleck

In light of Sonic 3 (film) existing (no I havent seen it yet) I've been thinking. This is of course, extreemly dangerous for me, because it's reignited the everliving spark in my heart and my deep unconditional love for Sonic Adventure 2.

And subsequently the slight story-re-write AU I was making a while ago (10 YEARS, 10 YEARS AGO???)

#Seeing the dune part 2 american centric red carpet and as a devoted aficionado of the books and yk a moroccan person here are my 2 cents #Dune was one of the few Western works inspired by MENA culture that that felt genuine and respectful #But ofc despite the profound symbiosis with Middle Eastern and North African culture evident within the pages of the novels #the movie adaptation lack of substantive representation from these communities both in on-screen portrayals and within production roles was #very much disappointing in part 1 and i doubt there are any change now #While drawing inspiration from the Amazigh peoples of Algeria and Morocco #the film barely skims the surface of its MENA influences leaving substantial potential untapped #Herbert openly acknowledged the profound impact of Islam and MENA culture on his noveIs #from the metaphorical representation of Spice as oil #to the allegorical parallels drawn between the occupation of Arrakis and real-world MENA geopolitics #By marginalizing Arabs from the narrative fabric of Dune the essence of the story is being undermined particularly its anti-colonial core #the irony of this is kiIIing me because this was a direct resuIt of us impérialism on the middIe east #But the reality is that Dune is an American production tailored for an American audience so it makes sense for it to be what it is now #a big production running from its original essence #What adds to my disappointment is the fact that I liked Villeneuve's adaptation of Incendies and I had what you call foolish hope hfhg #Dune feIt Iike a squandered opportunity to authentically depict the cultural milieu that inspired it #Given the narrative's inherent anti-colonial themes #the omission of Arab and North African voices dilute its message if any of it is even left #without representation from Arabs and Amazigh people the cultural essence becomes another appropriated resource watered down to an aestheti #rather than serving as a critique of the destructive actions of colonialists seeking power and dominance #the narrative becomes susceptible to distortion and co-option by the very entities it was intended to condemn and hold accountable

nintendo randomly dropping that a zelda movie has been in development for years smack dab in the middle of a tuesday afternoon was definitely not on my bingo chart holy shit

it’s poorly made television all the way down

#everything with me leads back to some kind of show #like. the spiral began with a tv show. albeit not a very good one. if a show is amazing it doesn’t leave much to ruminate on #so it began with a tv show and left me looking for a different show that somebody told me was similar #in aspects of temporal fuckery and storytelling foregrounded and made visible. a story about stories. so i went looking #and then looped right back #right back into badgood tv again. consciously #funny how i watch more shows than films now. something makes two hours feel shorter #remember my 👁️ tag? i used it as a catch-all for every meta regarding the doctor’s self-awareness as a fictional figure #talked about The Narrative and the never-ending journey. talked about ruby’s gwyllion watching the filming crew so why not the 📷 emoji? why #not a screen 📺? a 🎥 film camera or a 📼 tape. why did it have to be THAT #ivy.txt #going to bed for real this time 2:25am

once i get some experience working with other people's short films i want to make one of my own but also. my brain has fixated on a very specific short story of mine for this purpose and somehow it has decided that this is the one i Have to make. but how am i supposed to adapt something to screen if most of the story is just the protagonist's internal monologue. how do you accurately depict that in a short film. and also how on earth will i acquire live jellyfish

Last night (well, this morning, really; it was like 3am) I slipped and fell down a Loki disk horse rabbit hole and, to be frank, I am already exhausted and season 2 hasn't even started yet. I'm not gonna lie, idk if I'm going to be able to fandom-along for season 2; I might just end up quietly watching on my own and keeping my thoughts to myself. Which - isn't as fun, really, so lol fuck me I guess.

I just got finish watching the first two episodes of Chucky season three and I keep looking back at the teaser for the next episode and I swear to god if they kill Andy I just might quit the series altogether!

Absolutely, that's the same mindset i'm in.

I said it before, if they brought Andy back only to kill him in a stupid and anti climatic way after that pseudo clousure they gave him at the end of season 2 I would proceed the same way me ( and many others) with the walking dead after the death of Carl.

Abandon the show into irrelevance.

#i will still keep writing for andy of course #but abandon the show completely #and my future fics will not consider anything past season 2 #gimple did it twice with carl and madison #ruining both the show and spin off #they regretted it so hard i heard future fear seasons brought madison back somehow #blumhouse halloween had to bring back laurie #after the movies she was killed in were forgotten into irrelevance #last tcm brought back Sally just to have her do nothing and get killed #look at how good it turned out for them #that movíe was so sucessfull ríght? /s #if they kill andy don will be doing the dumbest mistake he ever commited with the franchise #we love the kids and everything #but kicking out the loyal fanbase that made chucky what it's today thinking the kids as the new thing can already replace andy #big fucking mistake #you can make a chucky film or a season of the show without andy showing up #but you don't have a franchise without him #he is part of its soul #even if he isn't there he is haunting the narrative #chucky series spoilers #andy barclay

so mad that the video tapes weren't solved this season. i like my riverdale mysteries to be SOLVED by the end of the season and only recomplicated when they're picked up again next season and/or in the last second of the last episode

EVERYWHERE #and i feel like the overall sw narrative is doing backflips to nod to include her outside of the original 6 films that like #my suspension of disbelief is getting a little tested yknow #idk how many more stories you can squeeze out of her filoni lol #like ahsoka as a character is didney's cash cow #like the rebels can stand on their own #and im bummed that their sequel series is apparently the ahsoka series.
